I feel. like I’ve asked you this before. what were ur interests in hetalia.

I honestly don't remember if I've told you this before haha but I will say it (again) anyway.

I got into Hetalia 10+ years ago as a means of saving myself from History Classes in highschool, don't know if it was the teacher or the school system, or me being neurodivergent but I was struggling.

And I had heard about an anime where the countries were characters so i was like: 'why not watch it?' At that point I would try anything, and to my surprise Hetalia episodes were just 5 minutes long, perfect! if it doesn't work I wouldn't have wasted that much time anyway, but it did work.

My shift in perspective during class made it fun, thing is I did like History and learning and school but for some reason History was not a subject i enjoyed... but when you start thinking of History Events as 'these little guys doing things', it makes it easier to click. It was like getting tea on some strangers.

I fell into the rabbit hole that is the Hetalia fandom, specifically the Hispanic one which I love and adore, and got invested beyond my initial objective and to this day I love Hetalia.

I love the manga that keeps getting updated, I love the random anime adaptations it gets after years of being forgotten by the general public who then gets whiplash when they see Hetalia getting a new season before their beloved show, I love the multiple theater and musical adaptations both inside and outside of Japan, I love the fanarts the fandom makes specifically whenever a Worldwide event happens like the Olympics, I love the fandom inside jokes, I love the trend #ShutUpGringo 2020 & 2022 that started in the Hispanic Hetalia fandom and then later spread to other fandoms as a protest to Usamericans trying to police the enjoyment of media and the rest of the world being tired of them, I love Himaruya the creator who in recent years created a new series based on Japan past Prime Ministers and even collaborated with the government to create publicity for the Train System and made the Japanese Train Lines into anime boys, iconic, never change Himaruya.

Belated Tokyo Hetalympics comic (Featuring Kamamoto from the World Flags series (?)!)

Finally got an Olympic comic out on the last day of the Paralympics! YEAAAHHHH-

Also featuring Kamamoto because why not.

And it's an opening ceremony joke! Well jeez aren't I punctual. But I wanted an excuse to draw these outfits too you know.

But I wanted to release some Hetalympics content. The joke probably doesn't translate well, but I tried. Sorry it's super rough.

Title: Well not technically wrong...

I know you're not supposed to explain a joke, but basically the joke is that in the opening ceremony, for whatever reason, all the nations were called either by their official longform name or their katakana spellings...

Then, to the confusion of my whole family, the UK Team didn't enter under "i", イギリス... only to enter a few letters later under "e", under 英国.

What.

It's an archaic name only used in news reports and the like. According to Wikipedia it's a completely valid rendering of the UK, but I mean it's not like they're calling America 米国 or France 仏国.

It was just a moment that left me scratching my head and I wanted to draw a comic on it and here's the result.

Then again the Olympic placards are already hella inconsistent. There a nations like Moldova or even America who have their full name written unlike everyone else (For China and South Korea I guess I can see why they're written so formally, but why is Iran and Tanzania's name written out?), who just has their common name, and I really cannot understand why. Also "Igirisu" itself is also a super weird name because I guess we don't use just "Great Britain" for some reason.

Also yes, France is a weeb. Look it up, France consumes a lot of manga and Japanese stuff.

I tried to leave characterizations of whether this is canon or Alt ambiguous, though it's canon-leaning-ish from how Greece and Italy are acting. Then again Germany has his hair down too so blame the jet lag for Greece I guess.

Hetalia and The Olympic Flagsonas

Okay! So for those of you that didn't know, there are designers hyping the Japanese Olympics coming up with these cool samurai/anime designs based on nation's flags. As a Hetalia fan, I wanted to look at them with you guys, and share some reactions.

The Allies

Okay. So at first I was like, no way, this America is way too adorable. America should be scary! He should be kinda evil! Not like... A child. With cute freckles. (Also I think America a should be mixed race, different point-- applies also to Hetalia.)

But then! I realized: I was wrong. What could possibly be worse than a 15 year old with global power? Like this teenager walks into rooms of grown-ass adult nations and is like "Do what I want now!" He's perfect.

Oh, I like this France quite a bit. Look at that small smile. He looks older and cultured. Not as pretty as our France, but he has a feeling about him that does speak to me. Like he would take you out to only black tie events. And understand fine art.

This is the older, more mature France. He isn't the same like, inappropriate France. Instead he scoffs tastefully at things.

This China is like a cooler Hetalia China. Like feasibly, this is what China used to look like at some point. I love that hair. Reminds me of my favorite Dynasty Warriors character. And look at that red streak in the bangs! I love that. More characters should have hair streaks.

There is no breaking this China's composure. This guy would also kick your ass.

Okay! So Russia's the same. We all agree on Russia.

I held off on England because this one is hands down my favorite. LOOK at that absolutely cocky expression! He looks like a villain! He looks evil! He's wearing a MONOCALE! This isn't your gentlemanly calm England, this man is cause of Brexit and you can see it in his eyes.

He's perfect. This is how I see England. Imagine this man and the bratty teenager, America, he ignored. God. Perfection.

The Axis

I feel like the essence of Germany is the same. Like, we all agree on a basic Germany in terms of what that nation looks like as a person, and this proves that. Although, this Germany looks like a different type of guy than our Germany. Like he'd have some fun. And that hair ombre on the back, that's pretty cool.

This Germany seems more of a sporty type than the lawful type. You can see the confidence in those eyes.

Super cute. I love that parasol. This Japan looks similar, but he looks more confident. Like he's more in touch with the fun pop elements of Japan and is not so unsure. He feels more like a co-leader with Germany.

Well, damn. Hello. This is like if Rome became Italy instead of dying. This Italy is clearly has a lot more maturity and experience.

Look at that wind tossed hair and that expression. This man is a lover. Of many things I'm sure. And he does it well. This is a better Italy 10/10.

Bonus!

Holy shit, Canada looks like a badass. His eyes are red! He's not even smiling! He's got this intense kind of "don't fuck with me" look going on.

You know what? This is like the ship prucan as a person. Also, I love his choker. I think this is like the tired older brother if teenage America and is sick of that shit.

I like this Spain very much. She seems pretty intense, which is cool. I like what's going on with the red coloring around the eyes.

This Spain seems nice but less in the Hetalia way and more in a no nonsense way.
