#hm grand bazaar
Text
One of the wildest things I think that can happen in Grand Bazaar is just, stuff during blizzards lmfao. To set stage, during Winter, so far, it seems like you can’t fish or crop. Like. The river is straight up frozen over, allowing you to walk on it and cross to usually impassable areas, occasionally finding items. There’s also a lot of blizzards, at least for me this year (Winter 1).
So far, I’m not used to the weather indicator on the bottom right of the top-screen depicting how the weather is, so, following my once-strict animal care routine, I’m picking up all my four chickens and putting them outside first thing on Winter 1. Seeing the blizzard, I think, “Oh well this is just snow, haha, it’s Winter!” I put them in the outside pen, as well as pushing my cows outside.
Then I notice I’m sliding. Farmer’s slipping and sliding and it’s kinda hard to control. I get a hang of it eventually, but soon, in going to brush my cows I notice they’re sliding too.
After just getting a new field, I go to it, and all the way on the left hand side my cows are bumping into the far end trees and angry. Realizing that, oh, maybe this is extreme weather (!!!11), I sloooowly push their asses back inside, taking way too long due to the ice physics. Once they were in, I put up my three chickens. Three.
Thinking maybe the last one had managed to manage slip out of sight, maybe wander inside my house, I scour the entire map thoroughly, wondering where they were. Starting to panic, realizing that I didn’t know how well I was going to Do in the bazaar this season (I had only briefly seen the frozen over river on the next map iirc), most likely needing to rely on livestock to get by, I did a soft-restart. Despite the blizzard, I thought maybe this slightly buggy, often repetitive 2008 DS title could’ve glitched the chicken out. Redid the day. Nobody went outside, things were good!
AND THEN THE NEXT BLIZZARD HAPPENED. OKAY SO.
ApPARENTLY—
IF YOU JUST. TOSS YOUR CHICKENS OUT IN THE WILD TRYING TO AIM FOR THE PEN ON A BLIZZARD DAY
THERE IS A VERY GOOD CHANCE, THE BLIZZARD WILL JUST SNATCH YOUR CHICKEN
AND THEN YOU, HELPLESS TO EVER CATCH THEM, CAN ONLY RUN AND WATCH THEM BE CARRIED AWAY BY THE WINDS
AGHGHGHG ???
I USED TO PLAY HARVEST MOON A LOT BACK WHEN I WAS YOUNGER BUT LITERALLY ONLY ANIMAL PARADE/NEW BEGINNING/RUNE FACTORY 4 AND JUST A SMIIIIIIIIIIIIDGE OF TREE OF TRANQUILITY Y’ALL I DIDN’T EVEN GET TO THE FARMING STAGE IN THAT LAST ONE SOMEHOW LMFAO
Can someone please name any other HM games where non-standard animal losses can be. that extreme like jesus christ dude I came here to get silly at the bazaar not get silly at the mercy of nature woagh!!
TL;DR: I didn’t follow the weather and Smimbi get carried away in a blizzard 3^3

wanderer x gn! reader
[[ prologue || ao3 || next ]]
Tumblr media
'A HYPERSPECIFIC CASE ANALYSIS ON INTERSPECIES RELATIONSHIPS AND THEIR INHERENT INCOMPATIBILITY : A GROUNDED THEORY STUDY'
The Wanderer tapped his pen against the table. The title was very persuasive in its own right, if he did say so himself. Still, he would need convincing points to support his claim. Curse the Vahumana pricks for drilling this damn process into his head. He starts to map out his arguments in inky script.
His hands practically glide across the piece of paper, leaving neatly scrawled loops in its wake.
A list of reasons to deny his wavering inhibitions.
1. You were a puppeteer.
That in itself should have been an omen, given the nature of his existence. How foolish would it be of him, to be abandoned by a creator of puppets twice? To be fair, he didn't quite know this little fact about you until the second time he met you.
The Zubayr Theatre. Scholar he may be, but the allure of a stage had always caught his eye, even when his memories were incomplete. He did have a penchant for theatrical names, after all, in his past incarnations. Still, he never took the initiative to go near of his own volition. As often as he visited the Grand Bazaar, he usually stayed a good distance away from that corner of the market.
He finds himself hovering from a distance, again, when he spots a familiar face in the crowd. You, waddling in front of the Zubayr stage with a comically tall stack of fabric in your arms blocking your view.
In any other case, he would have minded his own business. Hah, he should have minded his own business, even in this case. But his legs seemed to move faster than his mind could process it, and next thing he knew he was by your side, swiping a good chunk of the fabric from your grasp so you could actually see.
"Wh-HEY!.." you whip around at him, and he catches a glimpse of your vision aglow as bright as your glare, but it fades away when you look at him. "You!"
"Me." he says in reply. He casually rearranges the fabric he'd grabbed into a neater pile.
You look at him funny, and your confusion melts into a warm smile. You seem to do that often, shaking off confusion like the morning dew rolls off a leaf.
You laugh quietly, nudging him in his ribs. "Aren't you such a gentleman, always helping me out?"
He scoffs, turning his face away from you. "Not my fault you're always in need of help when I'm around. I'm not an asshole, you know."
"Could've fooled me, Hat Guy."
He cringes. "..who told you that name?"
You laugh again, gleefully. "Didn't know you were so popular around here. Y'know, outside of the whole Archon's Right Hand Man you got going for you."
"I'm just making the most of what I'm capable of." he huffs. "If people find it such an interesting topic, then that's their problem."
"It's admirable." you grin. "You're amazing."
His knees almost shake for just a split second. He coughs awkwardly, and hides behind the shade of his hat.
"Flattery won't get you any extra favours." he says, and starts to walk.
You chase after him, and fall into step by his side. "Oh? But you're doing me a favour now. Checkmate."
"I won't hesitate to drop all this back onto you."
He wouldn't, he thinks.
"You wouldn't," you laugh.
Damn it.
He asks you a question in lieu of a reply. "In any case, isn't it unfair that you get to know my name?"
A roundabout way to ask for yours.
"Hm, is it?" you glance at him cheekily. "But I think I earned that knowledge fair and square, after all the asking around I did."
His brows furrowed in thought, and he felt a tug in the corner of his lips. "You asked about me?"
This time, you're the one whose footsteps stutter, looking at anywhere but him. Part of him takes glee in knowing he could have the same affect on you as you did on him.
"W-well," you clear your throat, "I was just.. you could call it getting to know my new home. Yeah, that!"
He would tease you more, but his greedy mind grabbed at the chance of learning something about you. "New? You're not from around here?"
"I've travelled around so much I can barely remember where I'm from," you shrugged. "But yeah, I'm finally settling down here."
"I see."
"Yeah." you nod. "I met Enteka last night, and when I helped her out with that psycho guy, she offered to introduce me to Nilou."
A lot of thoughts race through his mind as you talk. For one, he's a bit bemused at the notion that you would be so invested in helping a woman you just met the night before. He had assumed you were lifelong friends, the way you defended the acting manager that day. On the other hand, it did seem like something you would do, from what he's gathered of you. But more importantly..
"Nilou?"
"Yeah! I got myself a job here thanks to her. Apparently, Nilou mentioned to Enteka that the theatre needed more people around, so here I am!"
"Oh? And what do you do, then?" he tilts his head. "Besides flailing around blindly and carrying things like an idiot?"
"Hey!" you punch his shoulder lightly. "I'll have you know I'm very skilled at craftsmanship!"
"Really?" he drawls.
"Yeah really! I'm like, super popular. All the rage."
"It's weird that I've never heard of you then."
"What, you've never heard of the amazing–"
From the top of the Zubayr stage, a middle aged woman yells out a name, cutting you off. You whip around to look at her. Huh, that's one way to learn what you're called, he supposes.
"Rekhar!" you call back. "Need something?"
"Yeah, would you mind bringing the materials up here instead?"
"Sure thing!"
"You're a dear, thanks!" the elderly woman smiles, and retreats towards the back of the stage.
The Wanderer nudges your foot with his own, and says your name. It tumbles from his lips easily, naturally. He quite enjoys the way it sounds, he thinks.
You chuckle. "Guess I've been exposed."
"Like you could've kept it hidden."
"I could have!"
"With how much you talk? I doubt it."
"I guess that's true; it can't be helped," you sigh dramatically. "I do like talking to you."
"To me, or just in general?"
"In general too." you flash a wicked grin. "But mostly, you're just fun to be around."
That's.. certainly new. To be fair, you had incredibly odd taste in company.
You both reach the stage, and set down the bundles in your arms on a nearby table. Rekhar beams her thanks, and sweeps the fabric off to who knows where.
"I hear she's working on a new prop mechanic for the next show." you comment.
"You're not helping? I thought you were a craftsman."
"Me?" you laugh. "Oh, I'm not as well versed in prop engineering. My specialty lies more in puppetry."
His chest drops to a jolt, and he feels his throat run dry. "Puppets."
"Yeah!" You don't seem to notice the change in his tone. "I could show them to you, sometime."
"No thanks." he backs away abruptly, movement stiff. You look worried for him. He looks away from you.
"Are you okay?"
"I got something else to do," he says. You both knew it was a lie. "And you don't need my help anymore."
You don't need a puppet like me.
You reach out to him. He flinches away.
"..okay." you clasp your hands together, hold them close to your chest. "I'll see you around."
He leaves you standing alone without an answer.

Title: Just Barely
Cyno x Bard! Reader ▪︎ Warnings: None ▪︎ Wc: 830+
Bard!reader masterlist • Continuation here
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I've been having thoughts on a sort of Bard!Reader that travels all around, spreading music and song wherever they go, and now they end up in Sumeru. Before the Sumeru quest of course.
Sumeru is not big on unapproved performances!! Especially from foreigners!! You ditched your Akasha ages ago so they can't track you or steal your dreams, and you pop up everywhere!! Singing your insipid little songs and dancing some hillbilly jig the Sages scoff at.
You're not anything significant – except the fact that with your appearance, more people are getting bold about their performing arts, especially that performance theater, so the Akademia decides to make an example out of you. So, they send their General Mahamatra.
Cyno is not one to question rules or orders. The law is just and he will uphold the law and punish those who defy it. And if you're disrupting the natural order then he will deal with you. Only, it doesn't go that way.
Every single time you're in a crowd. You choose your battlefields cleverly, and it doesn't matter how many other matra he has guard the exit posts, you always manage to scurry off. Sometimes you're already gone by the time he arrives, a whisp disappearing behind a corner, sometimes, he'd see you meld back into a rushing crowd with a smile and a wink, and you're gone. It's annoying. He has paperwork to do.
The chase gets to be long enough that his superiors just tell him to keep an eye on you, and apprehend you if he catches you in one of your performances. You visit Port Ormos and sing to the sailors, you visit the Grand Bazaar and dance with Nilou, you strum your lyre for children and bedridden nobles. Apparently, and according to rumor, you greet the Sun and Moon with a song as well. Too many people are fond of you already.
But he can't catch you. You disappear into the waves when you catch a glimpse of him, you dash across courtyards with shrieking laughter and jump out of windows and vanish just before he can get his hands on you, leaving nothing but crackling lightning and strange sear in his chest.
And, what? What will he do? Chain your hands and feet and tell you to stop singing? Cyno can see that this is the life of you. He has seen your feet dance faster than you run and once he heard your voice at the break of Dawn, indistinguishable underneath the bird's morning call but sweet and soft and calling, sending his heart trilling. Your hands flutter over strings, and he jolts when you pluck a note too high.
He sees it now as you sit on the curb near the Akademia, strumming your lyre. You're getting bold now.
He strides over, and the crowd's murmurs fall into frightened awe as he stops before you, and you don't even open your eyes or raise your head.
"General Mahmatra Cyno, to what do I owe this pleasure?" This is the closest he has ever been to you and never mind the way that your eyelashes brush your skin or the way your smile pulls your lips.
"Musical performances are banned on the grounds of the Akademia."
"But I'm not performing…? I'm simply tuning my lyre. Does that count?"
"Yes. Furthermore, loitering is also prohibited."
"Hm. I hate those two rules, you know? They exist everywhere here." Your scowl is pretty to. He does not know why he thinks this.
"They are meant for a reason. They exist for a reason." His hand tightens on his pole arm and he does not like the way his shadow falls over you, or the way you don't raise your head.
"They make it illegal to exist or be anywhere." You continue, unhindered.
"They prohibit the arts, practically ban it, and you want to know why?" You do not wait for an answer. "Because the arts have always been a means of human expression. An act of rebellion. And when we rebel and speak our truth through art and song, it means change, it makes people afraid.
"This is not what we should be frightened of. There will be fires and there will be storms, toppled gods and kingdoms, and there will be darkness again. And songs about the darkness." Your eyes cut up to him, suddenly, and they're not anything extraordinary, whether in color or shape. But you hold his gaze, and that is extraordinary enough.
"Why do you think this makes them afraid, General?"
He grits his teeth, and hears a crackle of lightning by his ear. He doesn't know why he's entertaining you.
"I am not here to debate the worth of the arts to you. Remove yourself from the premises immediately or you will be escorted out."
You just look up at him, and sigh, and draw yourself up, joints clicking. You pop your joints with a furrowed brow as you turn away, but before that you ask a question.
"Cyno," the audacity you have. "Riddle me this. Do you believe that the law is just, or do you believe that upholding the law is just?"
"There is no difference." By the pitying look on your face, you beg to differ.
You leave, and the passing breeze of your departure smooths itself over his skin like a kiss. He doesn't watch you go. His fist tightens.

Dates With Your Partner
Characters Include: Venti, Diluc, Candace, Nilou Genre: Romantic Fluff A/N: Please forgive me if any of these chapters seem unnatural to read, I hope to get better at writing Genshin characters! Notes: GN! Reader, You/Yours are the pronouns used, reader is addressed to as MC (Because I’m used to it) Introduction: Whether it be unwinding after a long hard day at work, taking your partner out somewhere, or just being with them; it's nice to have a date once and a while. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Venti
It's not hard to find Venti around Mondstadt, at least for you but maybe that’s just the perk of dating him. It's pleasantly easy to set up dates, such as the one you two have set up at Windrise underneath its giant oak tree. You bought a picnic basket of foods, which Venti did help prepare, and a picnic blanket to lay on. Venti brought some wine, which you knew he was probably going to drink all of.
“Hm.. I feel like something is missing..” Venti hums, stroking his chin.
“Huh? What would that be?”
Venti thinks for another moment or two before smiling and summoning his lyre to play.
“A date such as this wouldn’t be complete without a ballad~”
Ah.. Classic Venti. He always ends up singing a ballad for you one way or another, but you don’t mind. His music is relaxing and really helps the mood of dates such as these.
Diluc
Dates with Diluc usually take a bit of preparing, so it was a pleasant surprise when at 3 pm you got a letter from his bird companion, inviting you to the manor at 4 pm for a date. You couldn’t pass up the opportunity so you send a response back with the bird and go to get ready.
You knock on the door at the manor and Adelinde, who greets you with a warm smile.
“Good afternoon. Please, come in.”
You thank the head maid and enter. You are greeted with Diluc, who isn’t in his work clothes, but instead something more fancier.
“You look nice.” He says with a collected tone, but still one filled with admiration.
You couldn’t help but smile at this usually stoic boyfriend as he holds out his arm for you to grab onto so he can lead you to the table.
Candace
Dates with Candace can be either carefully planned out or spontaneous.
Usually the dates you go on help her to visit the city more, or sometimes you just stay in the desert somewhere suitable for a date, as much as it could be at least. It’s a coinflip really.
On this day, you two decided to take a walk during the time of day where it’s usually less busy for Candace. It’s a simple way to spend time with each other.
You two stop at Caravan Ribat, which wasn’t particularly busy. Candace’s eyes caught a particularly well woven tapestry at one of the stalls. You follow her line of sight and gape a little bit at the textile.
“Wait here!” You tell her, and you were off before she could stop you.
A minute later, you come back to Candace with the tapestry rolled up. You give it to her with a smile, and she couldn’t help but give a gentle smile while taking it.
“You didn’t have to, MC”
“I wanted to!”
“Well, thank you. Why don’t we go back to the village? I can cook us something!”
“Okay!!”
Nilou
You often come to show Nilou support whenever she dances. After her dance routine, you always cheer and clap the loudest. It makes Nilou happy whenever you do so, even if she has to remind you to quiet down on occasion so as to not disturb the other people. After a particularly tiring dance routine, she comes off of the stage and sees you with two cups of padisarah pudding for the two of you. "You did an amazing job with that dance!" You compliment, giving Nilou her cup of pudding, which she happily takes. "Thanks MC!" You two sat at a bench and simply enjoyed the pudding together, laughing and talking as the Grand Bazaar stays lively as ever.

Got lucky. For more context, I smashed an ore rock. See, it has a chance to contain rare ores like this. Or if unlucky, you'll get the classic "Scrap Metal" which is just a piece of junk ( I got to sell it at least )
Tumblr media
You may sell it as it is as it has high values though it is also a material to make items that worth a lot more too.
Tumblr media
Just hope the next time I smash them I get Silver Ore rather than the copper one... Kinda tiring of my good luck on my bad luck

The atmosphere at the Grand Bazaar is always hustling and bustling because of many people active there. Among them were Nilou and the Scribe's daughters, Aqilah and Afiyah.
On that day, they agreed to meet to shop for clothes with Nilou saying 'their clothes are unvaried'. Stopping at a stall, Nilou and Afiyah browsed through their options while Aqilah awkwardly stood on the sidelines.
"What do you think of this one, Afiyah?" Nilou asked.
"That's pretty. Aqilah, what about this one?"
"It suits you, Afiyah."
Nilou noticed the older twin who had pushed herself aside. She asked, "Aren't you going to look for some new clothes, Aqilah?"
"No thanks. I'm happy with the clothes I already have."
"Oh, do you want me to pick some out for you?"
"No."
"Do you want Afiyah to pick them out for you?"
"No thank you."
Nilou grumbled a bit, today should be the day they all have fun, not just the two of them. Suddenly an idea popped up in her mind.
Tumblr media
"Now this, I'm finally happy with."
The three girls walked back to the Zubayr Theater stage with their goodies in hand. It was what Aqilah expected, but what she didn't expect was that she would also carry one herself.
"I can't believe you told the shop owner to pick out a outfit for me. I specifically told you that I'm happy with my own clothes and I didn't want to buy anything. The fact that you told her behind my back doesn't make it any better," she protested.
"Well, you didn't tell me not to ask the owner. So, that's on you. I played you at your own game. Plus, it never hurts to try on the clothes the shop owner chose," Nilou reasoned.
"..."
"...You're right. You got me there, well played."
Nilou smiled in victory as Afiyah giggled at the sight of her sister's sense of defeat. She saw several people moving crates into a shop, which seemed to be in full swing.
"Hey, looks like a new shop is opening. Do you want to check it out?" Nilou asked.
"No thanks. Besides, it looks like someone is already waiting for us."
They then saw a familiar figure waiting in front of the Zubayr Theater stage.
"Ah, there you are, my lovelies! I was looking for you two. Have you two finished shopping? I need you to come with me."
"Uncle Kaveh...! Good to see you again."
The younger twin ran over to the Palace of Alcazarzaray's architect and gave him a hug, with the Zubayr Theater dancer and her older twin sister following behind.
"Looking for us? Is it something urgent, Uncle Kaveh?" Aqilah questioned.
"Umm, I'll leave that to your judgement... Anyway, there’s someone I’d like you two to meet."
Aqilah and Afiyah looked at each other, wondering who were they meeting. Nilou quickly took note of the situation saying, "Well, I suppose this is the end of our shopping trip. It's nice to hang out with you again."
"Mm-hm! Thanks for accompanying us, Auntie Nilou."
Wait.
What...
What did Afiyah call Nilou just now?
Auntie. ᴀᴜɴᴛɪᴇ. 𝓐𝓾𝓷𝓽𝓲𝓮. ǝıʇun∀
"..."
"...H–How many times do I have to remind you two? Just call me Nilou, no need to add 'Aunt' or 'Auntie', just Nilou. Or you can also call me Miss Nilou like the others do," Nilou said, clearly flustered.
Aqilah has walked away as Afiyah smiled back at her before running to catch up with her. Kaveh left a message before leaving himself.
"We can't deny the fact that we're aging, Nilou. Enjoy it while it lasts."
Tumblr media
Approaching the two story building, Aqilah and Afiyah still stared in awe even after visiting the architect's house several times. The wooden beams added a nice contrast to the white walls, complemented by gold accents, some red and greenery.
"Are these hanging planters a new addition? I don't remember seeing them on our last visit..." Afiyah wondered.
"Ah! Well spotted. Yes, they are new. I plan to put red flowers in them but the florist said they aren't available. Huh, what a pity..."
Kaveh led them into the living room, where they found a man observing objects the architect stored in a glass display cabinet.
"Is this a picture of your magnum opus, Kaveh? The Palace of Alcazarzaray?" he asked.
"Yes, sir. That's the one, the exact same one that caused me to be in debt..." Kaveh answered, his voice trailing off at the end of his sentence ending with a sigh.
"Ohohoho, it's alright, Kaveh. There's nothing to be ashamed of. Besides, look on the bright side. You managed to recover from your situation. I would be more embarrassed if I couldn't repay my debt within fifteen years."
"Ugh, I just love the way you think, Mr. Isamu. You are absolutely correct!"
Kaveh then realized that he's been ignoring the two girls he invited over, with Afiyah innocently blinking and Aqilah giving him the death stare.
"Uhh... Sorry about that, girls... Come, have a seat."
The twins sat across from the man believed to be Mr. Isamu, while Kaveh sat beside him.
"Aqilah, Afiyah, this is Mr. Isamu. He's a historian and importer from Liyue. He came to Sumeru for a visit and I offered him to stay at my house as a guest," he introduced.
Mr. Isamu smiled at them and they nodded back. He has a warm aura around him, which strangely made Aqilah and Afiyah comfortable even though he was a complete stranger.
"Ah! How foolish of me, I have guests! Excuse me, Mr. Isamu. I'll go make some tea. You guys talk in the meantime," Kaveh said, excusing himself.
After he left, the atmosphere in the room was silent and very awkward. Aqilah and Afiyah were confused on what to talk about with Mr. Isamu.
'A historian from Liyue...' they both thought at the same time.
"Aqilah... and... Afiyah, was it?"
"Y–Yes, sir..." Aqilah stammered.
"Now, now, you don't need to be so formal. Tell me, do you have an idea of who I really am?" he said.
"We do... But, we try not to get our hopes up..." Afiyah took turns answering.
"Well, how about I tell you this to confirm your preconceptions?"
All their attention was focused on Mr. Isamu. They prepared themselves to hear his answer. Seeing the movement of his lips and hearing his voice, their eyes were slightly widened and their mouths slightly gaping.
"I am your grandfather."
Tumblr media
"Come on, Grandpa! Come on!"
After their meeting and their conversation at the Palace of Alcazarzaray's architect's house, they headed to the Sanctuary of Surasthana to meet Nahida. As they made their way up the steep path, Afiyah excitedly ran while Aqilah and Mr. Isamu walked.
"Slow down, Afiyah. You know that Grandfather wasn't as fit as he was when he was younger," Aqilah said.
"It's alright, Aqilah. Let her be, let her enjoy her youth. You too, enjoy your youth."
"Yes, Grandfather."
They went to the Sanctuary of Surasthana to discuss more about Zaleos and the Isles of Etsumi, since all the knowledge is kept with Mr. Isamu.
(Flashback)
"So you've met the God of Wisdom in person?"
Afiyah smiled at her sister before looking back at her grandfather, keeping the smile on her face.
"That's true," Aqilah said.
"We've been having weekly study sessions with her, researching and discussing our theories on Zaleos and the Isles of Etsumi," Afiyah added.
"Since now you're here, would you like to go meet her?"
(Flashback ends)
Standing before the large door, Afiyah was about enter as per usual. But her way was blocked by her sister's outstretched arm.
"Halt. She has guests over. We shouldn't just enter at will," Aqilah said.
"Then, what should we do? Grandpa is here already, we can't just turn around."
"It's alright, you two. My time in Sumeru is still long, we can come back tomorrow. Come on."
Aqilah and Afiyah looked at each other, unsure of what to do. They were about to reluctantly leave the Sanctuary of Surasthana, when all of a sudden a voice popped into their head.
"I can hear your voices from behind the door. Come on in."
They both turned around, the younger twin slightly more excited than the older twin. Mr. Isamu seemed a little confused by the voice that also appeared in his head.
"Did... Did you two hear that? Was that...?"
"Mm-hm, that's her. Let's go."
(Inside the Sanctuary of Surasthana)
"Excuse us!"
Afiyah leisurely walked into the Sanctuary of Surasthana with Aqilah and Mr. Isamu following behind. Reaching the center, they saw that Nahida was with two other people.
"Hello, you two. Is it time for our study session?" she asked.
"We're not here for that, Nahida," Aqilah said.
The Dendro Archon wondered what the Scribe's older twin daughter meant, until she looked at the person behind them.
"Oh! You must be their grandfather. It's nice to finally meet you! I hope you don't mind me borrowing your scroll and dictionary their father had gifted me."
"Not at all, Lesser Lord Kusanali...! As long as I can share knowledge with others, I don't mind."
"Please, just call me Nahida. What should I call you?"
"You can call me Isamu, m'lady."
Aqilah and Afiyah felt like they were a third wheel seeing their grandfather's closeness with the Dendro Archon, even though they had just met. So did the two people who spoke to Nahida earlier.
Come to think of it, why did they seem so familiar? Blonde hair, fiery-gold eyes, and a white haired floating companion... Where had the twins heard of them? Hmm...
"Oh! I almost forgot about it! I forgot to introduce you to each other. Aqilah, Afiyah, this is the Traveler and Paimon. They were one of the people who saved me from the Sages," Nahida said.
"I thought so. Nice to meet you," said Aqilah briefly.
On the other hand, Afiyah had more to say, "It's nice to finally meet you. I want to thank you so much for saving Nahida from the previous Sages. It means a lot to us and the people of Sumeru."
"O–Oh...! Y–You're welcome...! It's been a while since Paimon hear something like this..." the floating companion said.
Afiyah giggled at the Traveler's cute floating friend. The First Sage of Buer seemed preoccupied with their thoughts, feeling a sense of familiarity with the two girls. They were sure that they had never met them, but still why?
"Traveler."
A voice suddenly popped into the Traveler's head, causing them to look at the owner herself, Nahida.
"I know what you're thinking. Do you want me to give you an answer to your curiosity?"
The Traveler nodded. "Please do," they said.
"Hehe, alright then. Just so you know, they are Alhaitham's daughters."
The Traveler's eyes widened, and this didn't go unnoticed by the older twin.
"You told them something didn't you, Nahida?" Aqilah asked.
"Hehe, I don't know. May~be," teased the Dendro Archon.
"Huh? Were you two having a secret conversation just now? Ugh, how many times has Paimon told you? Let her in on it!"
Nahida laughed as the Traveler apologized and whispered something to their floating companion's ear.
"Wait! So you're saying... that they're Alhaitham's—"
The Traveler quickly covered Paimon's mouth with their hand, but it seemed that their efforts were too late.
"If that's what you call whispering, you've done such a terrible job at it," Aqilah said.
"Oh, um... Yeah, Paimon's been told that..."
Suddenly, a sense of familiarity clicked in Paimon's mind.
'Huh? Wait... Why does Paimon feel like she had this conversation before?'
Paimon then recalled the time when they had been invited to Alhaitham's house.
(Flashback)
"You...! You don't understand anything! Stop criticizing my taste in decoration!"
Kaveh walked away after another bickering session with Alhaitham. He seemed rather upset as he seclude himself in a room, completely forgetting about the painting he was trying to put up.
'Kaveh seems to be upset again...' thought the Traveler.
"Paimon can't tell which of them is more problematic... Let's just get this over with and leave..."
"I blame your curiosity, Paimon..."
Alhaitham who heard Paimon's words didn't hesitate to comment, "You whisper very loudly."
"Oh, um... Yeah, Paimon's been told that..."
(Flashback ends)
'Huh, so it's true! They really are similar to each other,' Paimon concluded.
"Wait, so you know our father?" Afiyah asked.
"Of course they do! Now that everyone's familiar with each other, how about you all go out and have a chat? Me and Mr. Isamu have something to discuss."
Tumblr media
(Outside the Sanctuary of Surasthana)
"How did you come to know of my father?"
"Huh?"
The Traveler and Paimon were a little dumbfounded by the older twin's question, given she was not one to talk.
"How did you first meet my father? What was the first impression you got from him?" Aqilah asked again.
"Well at first, Paimon thought he was a pretty smart guy. But over time, he's even more annoying than Paimon thought! Paimon even wondered how someone like him could become an Acting Grand Sage at that time..."
"Hah, I've heard of that crazy story," Aqilah said.
"So how did it go?" Afiyah took turns asking.
The Traveler recounted everything they experienced during the time Alhaitham became the Acting Grand Sage. At the climax of the story, Afiyah started tearing up towards the end.
"So, all of that... was done because they wanted to get rid of Father...? In what way? By what means...? What did Father do to deserve this...?"
The Traveler and Paimon were stunned to see the Scribe's younger daughter shedding tears. Aqilah took out her handkerchief from her pocket and gave it to Afiyah, who murmured a soft 'thank you' to her sister.
"Sorry... Afiyah gets sensitive whenever we talked about our father, especially with things like this. Though I'm not the most fond of him, at least this is the only thing I can be proud of," Aqilah said.
The Traveler and Paimon could only stare at each other. Their relationship must be very... complicated.
Not long after, Mr. Isamu came out of the Sanctuary of Surasthana.
"Well that was an insightful discussion. A— Oh... What happened? Why is Afiyah crying? Did you talk about something sad just now?"
They were silent, unsure of what to say. Mr. Isamu put his hands on his granddaughter's shoulders and said, "It's alright, Afiyah. It's completely alright to cry over something, you are human after all. Humans have emotions and even though I don't know what you guys are talking about, you have every right to do so."
Afiyah began to calm down, wiping away the remaining tears and smiling after hearing her grandfather's comforting words.
"Now then, how about we take a look at the new shop I opened?"
Tumblr media
"Wait, this must be the shop Auntie Nilou was talking about earlier."
Aqilah, Afiyah, the Traveler, Paimon and Mr. Isamu were in front of a new shop situated in the Grand Bazaar. The shop's foreign name caught the Traveler and Paimon's attention.
"Etsumian Goods... Doesn't sound like anything familiar in Paimon's head. We've been to many places in Teyvat like Dragonspine, the Golden Apple Archipelago, the Chasm, heck even Enkanomiya and yet this name feels so foreign. Mr. Isamu, is this a new shop or do you have other branches with the same name?" Paimon said.
"I'm glad you asked, Paimon. You see, the Isles of Etsumi's biggest export are its gemstones. Our gemstones are in high demand among people across Teyvat, but are more often sold by shops not affiliated with the Isles of Etsumi. This is our first independently run shop. Now, there is one thing you need to know about gemstones from the Isles of Etsumi that set them apart from other gems. Unlike other gemstones in general, where you know the type the moment you mine it, the Isles of Etsumi's gemstones takes time to develop the color. Give it a few days and its milky white base will turn to the most stunning of colors," Mr. Isamu explained.
Suddenly, he decided to add an interesting story to his explanation, "As a matter of fact, that bracelet you are wearing, Aqilah, is made of precious stones from the Isles of Etsumi. I remember commissioning a jeweler from there as your mother's birthday present. Seeing its condition, it seems that your mother rarely wears it and keeps it well for other purposes."
Aqilah's eyes widened hearing her grandfather's words. Her attention was immediately drawn to the jewelery on her wrist.
"Is that true, Grandfather? This bracelet... belonged to my mother?"
"Of course, I remember it all too well. It was a gift for her eleventh birthday but I commissioned it when your mother was younger," said Mr. Isamu.
Unknowingly, Aqilah's hand came closer to her chest while she caressed the gem on the bracelet as if it was the dearest thing she own. Meanwhile, Afiyah's mind is still stuck on the mysterious color changing of the Isles of Etsumi gemstones.
"Grandpa, how is it possible?" Afiyah asked out of curiosity.
"I'm not entirely sure. It has always been that way since the moment we discovered it. Some say that it is the result of Zaleos' powers when she created the islands. I can't give you an exact answer, Afiyah."
The Traveler and Paimon who had been listening to their conversation from the start were confused by another new name that was brought up, the Isles of Etsumi.
"The Isles of Etsumi?! We've been all over Teyvat but we just heard about this place. Where is it located? Paimon can't believe we missed this place!" Paimon said.
"Well, it's only natural if you miss the Isles of Etsumi. Because, it doesn't exist on the general map of Teyvat. Only maps made by the people there suggest its existence."
"It what?! Does this mean that even Alice doesn't know of the Isles of Etsumi? Ugh, Paimon's running out of brain juice... Quick, Traveler! Paimon needs something really tasty to restore her brain juice!"
"Haha, don't worry Paimon. There's must something in our shop that can help you with that. Come on in."
(Inside the shop)
Paimon's eyes roamed around, in search of something edible to eat. There were gemstones everywhere, in all sorts of colors. Paimon was about to give up until she settled on a part of the shop.
"Ooh! Paimon like the looks of these! Oh wait... umm, are these edible?"
Mr. Isamu caught up with the floating companion to see what she had found, the candy display.
"Of course they are. Our kohakutou and rock candy may look like crystals, but they are perfectly edible. Would you like some tea to accompany your sweets?"
Suddenly, a shop worker approached Mr. Isamu. "Your– Ehem, Mr. Isamu. I don't mean to be rude but, who are these people?" he asked.
"They are special customers. Please, whatever they choose, it will be free of charge. I will compensate for the loss."
Elsewhere in the shop, the Traveler and Afiyah looked at the supposedly 'color changing' gemstones. They are wrapped up with parchment paper and placed in wooden crates.
"Are you interested in our 'mystery' stones, Traveler? You can choose whatever you like and we will wrap it up for you."
The Traveler was startled by Mr. Isamu's sudden appearance. "I'm just having a look," they said.
Paimon came over with her goodies, she looked so happy she could probably eat all of them in one sitting.
"Hey! Are you done yet? Paimon's got all her goodies and Paimon can't wait to eat them! Also, there should be enough for you and your sibling."
"Oh right! You have a sibling, don't you? Then here," Mr. Isamu paused as he picked two random 'mystery' stones and gave them to the Traveler, "Have these. And don't worry, they're on the house."
Tumblr media
After saying goodbye and seeing the Traveler off, Aqilah, Afiyah and Mr. Isamu went for a walk on the streets of Sumeru City. Afiyah and Mr. Isamu walked in front with Aqilah trailing behind. She seemed a bit preoccupied with her thoughts as Aqilah continued to hold the bracelet on her wrist.
Afiyah seemed to notice that her sister was slowly getting left behind.
"Aqilah? Is everything alright?" she asked as she turned around.
Afiyah's questioning snapped Aqilah out of whatever she was feeling/thinking.
"...Yes, of course. Don't mind me, I'm fine."
"...If you say so."
Afiyah turned around and continued walking with Mr. Isamu. But soon, she heard a loud crash that made her turn around again. Along with the sound, Afiyah realized Aqilah's disappearance.
"Aqilah?" she called out. "Where did she go?"
"The sound came from over there. Let's go find her," Mr. Isamu said.
The two of them went around Sumeru City before finding Aqilah behind a building, tackling a middle-aged woman.
(Later, at Puspa Café)
Aqilah, Afiyah, Mr. Isamu and the women sat down at a table outside of Puspa Café. Mr. Isamu drank his coffee, Afiyah looked worriedly at Aqilah, while she stared intently at the woman who was silent.
"So you're not going to talk, are you? Don't you realize that you're making things more difficult for yourself? Speak up, or we're going to have some problems," the older twin spoke with venom in her voice.
Mr. Isamu was about to tell Aqilah to go easy on the women, but Afiyah held him back. She knew when her sister was angry, she was really angry.
Aqilah scoffed when the woman remained silent. She slammed her hands on the table, shocking those around her.
"Let me get this straight: You think it's normal for a stranger to follow two sisters and their grandfather around Sumeru City? Well you are gravely mistaken. You better give us an explanation, because you have no right to remain silent."
The atmosphere was tense, but it wasn't long before the woman finally spoke up.
"We aren't exactly strangers. I know you, to some extent," she said.
Her words shocked the three of them, however Aqilah was more amused.
"Oh? How so?"
"..."
"...I don't know if this will ring a bell. But just so you know, my name is Najwa."
Hearing that name suddenly made Aqilah's head spin. As she held her head, Aqilah thought back to the time she visited the Bimarstan.
(Flashback)
Aqilah came to the Bimarstan after getting an invitation from Golshan. They sat outside to talk over tea.
"Why did you ask me to come here, Aunt Golshan? You know I'm too old for my usual medical check-up."
"You're right. You are too old for such things. Sorry, I just wanted to see you. So how are you?"
(A little while later)
"Aunt Golshan. I know you've told the story of my mother's death several times, but there's something that intrigues me. Is there something you haven't told me?"
Aqilah's question made Golshan speechless as she put down her tea cup. After a moment of contemplation, Golshan couldn't help but have to tell it.
"Everything I've told you before has something to do with you, so what I'm going to tell you is a little personal to me. Back when I was an intern doctor, I had a senior named Najwa. She is truly the most wonderful and smartest person I have ever met, and I look up to her. Until, she decided to leave Sumeru. I didn't know for what reason at first, but after finding out during the kidnapping incident of your mother, I felt betrayed. It turns out that all this time, she has been working with..."
(Flashback ends)
"You... You're the one that Aunt Golshan told me about... You were the one that helped that psycho of a Fatui Harbinger... You are one of the reasons why my sister and I can't meet our mother...!"
Aqilah had risen from her seat and Afiyah went to comfort her, with tears flowing and emotions uncontrollable. Mr. Isamu, who had been silent and listening all along, had connected the dots.
"So, your mother... isn't here anymore, is she? Turns out I was right," he said.
Afiyah, who was on the floor with Aqilah, looked up at her grandfather.
"So, Grandpa, you knew all along?" she asked.
"I had a hunch, but I needed something to confirm it. I noticed your mother's lack of presence. No wonder Aqilah was talking in past tense earlier..."
Aqilah, now calmer, wiped away her tears and had something to say, "We can take you to her grave later. But for now, we must deal with this woman."

"I came here to apologize but I don't know how to approach you. I understand that a simple apology won't forgive the sins I have committed, but at least I have tried. I did what he said because I was scared. I was afraid he would harm my family. He has helped me and my family in the past, and the least I could do to repay him was to work for him. I knew it was wrong, but I've never felt more guilty when I heard about your mother's death."
(A flashback that's written from Najwa's POV)
I had told Lord Dottore that I would be staying in Sumeru for a few days to visit my family, with the agreement that I 'should be back soon'. He has left Sumeru to return to the motherland accompanied by several Fatui soldiers.
Was I so convincing that he agreed to let me stay here a little longer? Well, I am not lying either since I stayed at my family's house, but it was a lot shorter.
As I was walking on the streets of Sumeru City wearing my long cloak, I quickly hid behind a building when I heard a crowd of people coming. When I took a peek to see what was going on, there seemed to be a funeral procession.
'Huh, it's just a funeral procession,' I thought.
That's the first thing I thought, I thought it was just a normal one. But I was so wrong. The General Mahamatra also attended the funeral, and another thing...
'It's that guy...! I made eye contact with him when escaping from Lord Dottore's secret laboratory.'
(Flashback and Najwa's POV ends)
"How could I ever forget those distinct gray hair and striking light turquoise eyes? They were so soulless that day, constantly reminding me of the sins I had committed. Not only have I helped take someone's life, but also taken someone who is loved by others."
The three bereaved fell silent, allowing the woman to continue speaking.
"So, I... I deeply apologize for the loss. I won't expect that you will forgive me but I will do anything to get your forgiveness. Whether it's punishment, money or even my life I will–"
"Enough."
Afiyah, Mr. Isamu and Najwa were a little surprised by Aqilah's interruption. She sat back in her chair and propped her head up.
"Killing you will not bring my mother back. It's useless," she said.
The three of them fell silent. Aqilah was right, it is indeed useless.
"However, there is one thing you can do to earn my forgiveness."
"What is it? Please, tell me! Like I said, I would do anything!"
It was Aqilah's turn to be silent, and this made Afiyah and Mr. Isamu worried. They didn't know what punishment Aqilah would give, and how brutal it would be. When she was about to give her final answer, they were nervous.
"Keep living, and do good. If I catch you doing otherwise, I will not hesitate to kill you."
They were stunned once again, but also proud and relieved. Najwa was even moved to tears.
"Oh, thank goodness... Don't worry, Aqilah. I swear with my life to keep your promise."
