I've been writing. No, really. I'm actually feeling interested and doing the work and it's coming together. Slowly, but it is. Anyway, here's a snippet.

The first print is done. Clipping it to the line, David stands back to view the slowly sharpening image of a grinning Patrick. White teeth bite down onto the edge of his jacket collar. Laugh lines stretch out in tributaries from where one eye is squeezed shut in a wink; the other eye looks right at David.

For a long time, David looks back. He pulls in a lungful of air and lets it out slowly, cautiously.

It’s Patrick, he thinks. Something about Patrick is making him feel a little … wobbly. Like he’s looking at David instead of the plates he's spinning.

He’s not sure why that thought sends a shiver up his spine.

He tells himself he doesn’t have the energy for a hookup. That Patrick probably wouldn’t want one. He doesn’t seem the type.

He’s still trying to get a handle on what Patrick’s type is.

The thing is, all the interview clips he’s pulled on Patrick seem to use some variation of the same phrase, referring in one way or another to his boy-next-door charm. David gets it—it’s an easy descriptor to fall back on, and it’s not a million miles off.

Except …

He looks up at the print again. It winks right back at him.

To paraphrase a film he knows very, very well: boys next door don’t look at you like that.

The High Voltage Tabletop Bundle is a collection of indie tabletop games (including one miniature wargame) that are all about a quick pace and big energy, ready to strike your table like a lightning bolt.

This set of twenty games for $20 is curated to give you an exciting taste of what indie game design has to offer for those looking for some bite to their gaming.

One of the games is Eousi, a game I wrote about a space cult of solar warriors! Think of the Eousi as a mix of Jedi and Witchers with a healthy dose of punk rock. They get their powers by drinking the blood of the space monster they worship, a process which might kill a character during character creation. They wear leather jackets and piercings made of metal from destroyed imperial ships. They hunt dragons and other monsters as a rite of passage. I kind of wanted to answer the question of, “What if the Rebel Alliance wasn’t built on the resurrection of a stoic, repressive order, but instead an order of already-rebellious, zealous outcasts?”

Eousi has one of my favorite enemy lists I’ve put in a game. It includes a lot of your space opera staples, but really shines with the Titankin, the Empire’s chosen who are granted great power through the melding of their own flesh with parts harvested from biomechanical titans. That’s the art for my favorite, Titan’s Dream, below.

Eousi also includes some integration with my Hotshots system, which just adds to the high voltage nature of the game.

I hope to dig into some of the other games in this bundle and tell you more about them when I have the time. Right now I can tell you that Blazing Hymn rules, and I’m really enjoying digging into Bloodbeam Badlands, Hell Grinders, and Mushi Melee!

You know all those movies by ZAZ, Mel Brooks and the likes, that are just hilarious parodies of either a particular film or a general genre?

(for example, Hotshots! is Top Gun-like, Hotshots!2 is clearly Rambo but a bit on the left, with a subplot reminiscing of Casablanca if Lazlo was played by Mr Bean, Spaceballs is StarWars a bit to the left, Airplane is every disaster movie involving planes ever, Dracula: dead and lovin' it! is... well, a parody of Dracula, Blazing Saddles is a western but with the orchestra playing the soundtrack visible on the large shot, Robin Hood men in tights... well you get it, and so on, and so forth)

Well if you don't, do not hesitate to watch them some day, they're all hilarious!

Yeah, no, there was no deep analysis coming up, nothing. Just your friendly reminder that watching unhinged movies is always nice.

X-Pitch: HOTSHOTS

Finally off X-Force, Domino decides she needs some relaxation and fun. And she can’t think of anyone better to provide that than her old friend, Outlaw! However, to her shock, Outlaw’s lost her spirit. She partied herself out non-stop in the early days of Krakoa, and now nothing seems fun anymore. So instead, Domino’s new mission is to get both of them back into the spirit of things, and to do that, she decides to reform her old team, the HOTSHOTS, consisting of the two of them and their bestie, Diamondback. 

When they give Rachel a call though, she doesn’t pick up. For days. Eventually, they decide they need to investigate, and in case something’s actually happened to her, Domino decides to bring Transonic for backup, the two having bonded over having had the worst bosses (with Laurie eventually admitted, somehow, that Beast was worse than Hope). Narratively, Laurie is here because putting a girl who hates guns on a team with Domino is just fun. 

With issue 1 ending with them heading off on their quest, issue 2 primarily consists of the three investigating, discovering the Serpent Society was somehow involved, believing they’ve captured Rachel, looking for revenge, and subsequently beating the tar out of many of their goons. The issue ends with the three being captured. And here they learn that Rachel hasn’t been captured by the Society, but rejoined and has become one of its new leaders, alongside Veronica Eden, now going by Lilith. And she’s oh so happy to see her best friends again after how they abandoned her. 

Veronica is still determined to kill every superpowered being on the planet, and since Hydra didn’t work out, she took over the Serpent Society. Meanwhile, after the Hotshots broke up, and Domino and Outlaw moved to Krakoa, never calling or writing, her life fell apart, she fell back into villany, with her talent, fun personality, and open hatred for Krakoa all drawing Veronica’s attention, and eventually leading to her becoming her right hand. Rachel doesn’t actually WANT to kill every super in the world, let along all Mutants, but this is the best job she’s gonna get, and she knew it would eventually at least lead to getting her revenge on Neena and Inez. And she’s more than happy to let her replacement, Laurie, suffer with them. 

Domino tries reaching out to Rachel, apologizing for never getting in touch and saying how she doesn’t need to do this, while Outlaw is 100% convinced Rachel’s been brainwashed, unwilling to accept her bestie’s gone genocidal. 

Rachel ignores Inez, simply calling her an idiot, and instead responds to Neena, who she thinks has no room to talk to her about “right and wrong” with what she’s been up to, Eden having gotten her hands on the details of X-Force’s activities, the nature of which, as she goes over them, horrifies Inez and Laurie. 

Imprisoned and awaiting whatever’s coming next, Domino can do nothing but express regret for her actions, for all her actions, with Inez getting more supportive overtime as she sees just how much pain Neena is in, while Laurie is beating herself up for thinking a nation as powerful as Krakoa wouldn’t have its own CIA, going on a long , Autistic schpeel about evil intelligence agencies around the world. 

Laurie does have a question for Inez though: Domino, misguided as she was, has at least genuinely been busy. Why didn’t *she* ever get in touch with Rachel? 

And Inez admits she has no good answer. Domino got lost in the idea of protecting Krakoa, but she got lost in its safety, and she just forgot about the rest of the world, and that not everyone had it as good as they did. 

When Veronica and Rachel return, Neena and Inez try their hardest to apologize together, being far more open than last time. It actually looks like they’re starting to get through to her, until Inez makes the mistake of staying that if she helps them stop this, they could maybe even get her a home on Krakoa, which only pisses Rachel off further for thinking she’d want that. 

Veronica admits that despite earlier dramatics, she really has no plans in place that are ready to go, and she was really hoping she’d think of something to do with these two, but alas. So, since she can’t kill them, she’s just gonna let her trusty #2 make the call. 

Rachel decides since they can’t kill them, they’ll just keep them as prisoners. And they’ll see if anyone on their island doesn’t just forget about them like they forgot about her. 

I don’t ACTUALLY know how to wrap this up, so...to be continued lol
