okay first some background knowledge:

Nico is rich as fuck. only child, born in Germany, brought up in Monaco. son of world champion Keke Rosberg

Lewis was born on a council estate in Stevenage and his dad had to work multiple jobs for him to start karting

Honestly I think the difference in their backgrounds is one of the things that pushed them together, they were both isolated from the rest of the kids, but I’m keeping this purely facts rather than speculation.

They’re both 15 years old and are karting teammates for MBB (Mercedes Benz McLaren) in Formula A

They often shared hotel rooms at the races which was a “scene of many wrestling matches between them”

Apparently it only took Lewis 2 hours to teach himself how to do it

In maybe 2013 ish (when they were still friends) Lewis reflected with– “I have never laughed so much than when we were racing together. Nico was kicking everyone’s butt at that time. We had so great races together and built a great relationship”

“we were just arriving and enjoying go-karts and eating pizzas every weekend, fighting all the time and just having fun, whereas now it’s all business.”

many times they would talk about what they would do when they got to f1, made plans hoping to be teammates and become world champions together.

“Nico would say ‘when I’m in formula one’ and for me it was always ‘if I ever get to formula one’. Because obviously Nico’s dad was a formula 1 driver- he knew he was going to make it.”

Nico joined f1 in 2006 with williams, Lewis 2007 with McLaren. And man I WISH I knew what went down with this two when Lewis nearly one his rookie season (missing out by one point to mr fernando alonso) and then WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP in his SECOND SEASON (again by one point thank you mr alonso)

2008 Australia

Nicos gets his first podium, and ofc Lewis is there (he won it) and they are jumping around in the cool down room. Just, two kids who are literally living the one thing they have spent their whole lives dreaming about together. Lewis won the championship that year and oh wow I can only imagine their celebrations together.

2013

They’re teammates in Mercedes!!!

Nico: “every other day there are moments or things that pop up and I can smirk and thing, ‘that’s exactly the same as it was 15 years ago’”

2013 Malaysian Grand Prix gets an honourable mention. This is the race with red bulls good old multi 21 but merc also had their own team orders, stopping nico from fighting for his first merc podium, but Lewis disagreed with it so it didn’t really spark that much tension between them- more the team.

2014

the start of the turbo-hybrid era so y’all know this was good in terms of performance.

2014 Bahrain Grand Prix

They were both fighting for the win and had a collision which prompted a “mock fight” in parc ferme after the race (which I really hope there’s a video of).

Turns out, Nico won because he had used engine modes banned by Mercedes to get a power advantage in the closing laps. which kinda pissed Lewis off

2014 Spanish Grand Prix

Lewis’ fourth win in a row and took lead in the championship. They were fighting till literally the last second and Lewis crossed the line 0.6 seconds ahead of Nico, who says he could have passed him with one more lap.

Lewis defended using the same banned engine modes that Nico had used in Bahrain. Yeah.

2014 Monaco Grand Prix

This is IT. This is peak petty bitch. This is the one people still cry about.

It’s the end of Q3, both of them are out on a lap, Nico ahead of lewis. Nico’s already on provisional pole but Lewis is pretty close.

And then,, Nico just,, parks his car?? He says he made a mistake but the guy doesn’t even crash he straight up just,, rolls to a stop into a slip road. So the yellow flags come out forcing Lewis to abort a lap that was in the makings of pole.

The stewards say it was a-okay but Lewis was convinced it was intentional (and let’s be honest, yeah it probably was) and he even claimed that merc’s data proved it. (low key surprised he didn’t just tweet out the telemetry but I guess he got a stern telling off from mclaren last time)

But *this* is when Lewis tells the world that they aren’t friends anymore. An iconic interview.

Nico then wins the race too, ending Lewis’s four win streak and putting Nico in the lead of the championship.

2014 Hungarian Grand Prix

Lewis has an engine failure in quali meaning he starts from the pit lane, but he does good to make his way up the pack but THEN there’s a safety car which puts him ahead of Nico but on a different strategy.

Nico asks if Lewis can let him past as he needs to pit again before the end of the race, which will give him the place back anyways. Lewis straight up refuses, he’s on a role here. He started from last, and Nico started from pole, why should he slow down to let his title rival through.

Mercedes strongly suggest that his blocking fucked up Nicos race but Niki Lauda is on Lewis’ side so he doesn’t get punished (We stan a supportive father figure) even though he did blatantly refuse to be a team player.

And guys, this is the last race before the summer break so you know Nico was left seething for four weeks.

2014 Belgian Grand Prix

Second lap, Nico attempts a clumsy move and there’s contact, giving Hamilton a puncture and knocking him out of the race.

There’s a lot of controversy but basically it turns out he crashed with him intentionally, not backing out of the corner to “prove a point”. Nico ended up finishing second but was punished by the team, forced to apologise, and even booed on the podium.

2014 Abu Dhabi

For some reason it ran for double points?? The first time in History??? But idk???

Lewis had a perfect start and went on to win it and take the title, Nico had a problem and was told to retire the car but he kept going anyway and finished 14th. Nico went into the cool down room to congratulate Lewis on the championship win, which. cute.

Lewis claimed his second championship. Which not only was huge because of the inter team rivalry, but also because of the large gap between his first win. This guy had lost out on winning the championship in his ROOKIE season by ONE POINT, and then WON it in his SECOND season, and then there was like a FIVE YEAR gap before he won it again.

2015

Damnnn this car was fiiiinneeeeeee.

They do more laps in testing than any other car AND do it on a single power unit. And then. Australia. They take a one-two THIRTY FOUR seconds ahead of the third place Ferrari.

2015 Chinese Grand Prix

Nico is second in a one-two but claims that Lewis kept backing him up into Seb, trying to compromise his race (and help out his boyfriend).

Lewis gave zero shits: "It's not my job to look after Nico's race, it's my job to manage the car and bring the car home as healthy and as fast as possible. That's what I did."

2015 U.S. Grand Prix

If Lewis wins here he could also claim the title with three races to spare (you have to remember back then the title fight often went up to the last race so this was pretty cool)

Lewis very aggressively forced Rosberg wide at Turn 1 to claim the lead, and then there was some sexy fighting between the Mercs and Redbull all race. Nico led in the closing stages but made a mistake, running deep into a corner and letting Lewis past with only a handful of laps to go.

Nico finished P2 and had not only lost the race but the championship title. Nico was fuming, saying Lewis’ move at the start was “one step too far”.

This is the infamous cap throw in the cool down room. Lewis throws Nico his P2 hat, Nico straight up yeets it back at him. I tear up just thinking about it. They grow up so fast.

2016

Nico had came so close to winning and I guess this was just, the last straw. All or nothing. This year he literally gave it everything he had. Lewis and him stopped speaking, Nico gave up literally the rest of his life and even stopped sleeping in the same bed as his wife and taking care of his kids, instead spending every moment trying to get into Lewis’ head. Honestly, I think he might be the only one that could beat Lewis. Just because he knew him *so well*. He literally threw away like 16 years of friendship. But also it’s like, he had to be world champion. He *had to*. His dad was champion and his whole life he’s been preparing to win it too. Tough luck that he raced in the same era as Mr. Best Driver The Sport Has Ever Seen.

Nico won the last few races of 2015, and the first four races of 2016. Lewis had a couple car problems and Nico had a good lead on him in the championship.

2016 Spanish Grand Prix

Gentlemen. A short view back to the past. Nico had made a switch error on the formation lap causing the car to go into the wrong engine mode. So he was running a lot slower than Lewis, who was fighting to claim back the lead.

Nico closed the door to keep him back, and Lewis lost control on the grass, and spins into Nico and taking them both out of the race in the first lap. This is probably one of the most iconic crashes. I’m pretty sure there’s a clip of this somewhere in black and white with the titanic music over the top.

Niki Lauda blamed this one on Lewis (I guess even a supportive dad has to be critical sometimes) "Lewis is too aggressive. It is stupid, we could've won this race".

2016 Austrian Grand Prix

Nico had been struggling with a brake issue all race but was still on the way to win it. But in the last lap Lewis had caught him up and gone in for the overtake.

Typical Nico not taking any shit, refusing to be the guy that backs out and they collide. Lewis took the win and a damaged Nico dropped to fourth. From first. In the last lap.

Both of them blamed each other and tired dad team boss Toto Wolff threatened team orders in future races.

The stewards blamed Nico for the incident, issuing him two penalty points for failing to allow "racing room" and causing a collision.

2016 Abu Dhabi

In the final laps of the race, Lewis ignored team-orders from his race engineer and the technical director.

He deliberately slowed and backed Nico into the pack hoping they overtake him, and there would be enough of a points difference to win the title.

Nico finished second and won the title by five points.

And then,,, Nico announced a surprise retirement during the FIA prize giving ceremony.

Lewis’ response:

"This is the first time he's won in 18 years, hence why it was not a surprise that he decided to stop.” (We stan a petty king)

“But he's also got a family to focus on and probably wants to have more children. Formula One takes up so much of your time."

“In terms of missing the rivalry, of course because we started karting when we were 13 and we would always talk about being champions. When I joined this team, Nico was there, which was something we spoke about when we were kids. So it's going to be very, very strange, and, for sure, it will be sad to not have him in the team next year."

And now they are kind of on speaking terms but not really, they are both pretty private but I think they are at the ‘awkward small talk when we run into each other at the supermarket’ stage of the break up.

“So you really can't come?” Alya paced back and forth across Marinette's room, her hand white-knuckled on her phone. Marinette and Nino watched from the chaise lounge.

“I'm sorry.” Alya had put the phone on speaker; Marinette could hear Adrien's voice over the phone from across the room. “Father left earlier than I thought he would, so I didn't get a chance to ask him about going out tonight.”

“You can have the gorilla drive you, can't you?” Nino jumped in.

“Not without my father's permission.” Adrien sighed. “I'm really sorry, guys. I know I promised I'd come over, but…”

“It's Christmas Eve!” Alya protested. Marinette thought to herself that Alya looked about ready to break down the front door of the Agreste mansion and kidnap Adrien if somebody didn't stop her. She probably would, at this rate. “You shouldn't be shut up by yourself in your house on Christmas Eve!”

“She's right, bro,” Nino said. “Being locked up in your house on Christmas Eve is just plain wrong.”

“Sneak out if you have to,” Alya said. “There's a million windows in your house; it's not like your hoverbot nannies can keep track of every single one. Just pop one open and slip out.”

“Tell her yourself.” Marinette shook her head no—she didn't know how on earth she was supposed to say anything that would be both coherent and understanding at the same time—but Alya was already shoving the phone at her. “She's right here.”

There was a little pause, as if Adrien hadn't realized that Alya and Nino were already at Marinette's house. “Hey, Marinette,” he said, quietly, like he hadn't meant for her to hear all of that.

“Um, hi,” she replied. She accepted the phone from Alya without really realizing it. “So, um, you…uh…”

“Can't make it,” he confirmed glumly. “I'm really sorry, Marinette. I know how much you were looking forward to this. But, um…at least you've got Nino and Alya there with you, right?”

“R-right.” Marinette glanced back at them, and Alya made a go on gesture with her hand.

Go on? What on earth was she supposed to say? Did Alya expect her to somehow, by some miracle, convince Adrien to sneak out of his house to come spend Christmas Eve with them? Frantically, she tried to think of something that wouldn't come across as horribly idiotic or horribly insensitive. “Um…so…”

“Maybe next year?” Adrien suggested, but he still sounded downcast.

“Yeah, maybe…um…maybe next year,” she agreed, but a thought had occurred to her halfway through the sentence, and her mind was racing. It might take some convincing, but… “Actually, um, what if we…what if we came over there? To…to your house, I mean. I'm sure my parents wouldn't mind if we did, if I explained what's going on.” Alya was nodding encouragingly now, and Marinette continued. “Actually, I might be able to convince them to come along, if you want. They really like you, so I'm sure they'd love to come too.”

Adrien was quiet for so long that Marinette started to wonder if maybe he had hung up on her. She was about to ask him if he was still there when he said, in a very tiny voice, “You would do that? For me?”

He sounded so stunned at the notion that Marinette wished he were standing in front of her so she could hug him. “Of course! You're a—a friend, and no one deserves to be alone on Christmas Eve.” Least of all you, she added silently.

There was another very long moment of silence. “I really appreciate the offer, Marinette,” Adrien finally said, “but I can't make you go to all that trouble for me. It's okay. I'll…um…I'll watch some Christmas movies or something, and I'll ask Father when he gets home if maybe we could hang out for New Year's.”

“Gimme that.” Before Marinette could say anything, Alya took the phone again. “Stop making yourself miserable, Agreste. Marinette's offering because it's not any trouble. Now let us come over.”

“Alya, you can't just invite yourself over to someone else's house,” Nino hissed at her.

Alya stuck her tongue out at him before turning her attention back to the phone. “Come on. Do you really want to sit by yourself in front of that big-ass TV and watch movies all night when you could be spending time with your friends? Your father let the whole class in last Christmas. I don't think he's gonna flip if you have three people over for a couple hours, if that's what you're worried about.”

“It's fine, Alya,” Adrien insisted. “You guys can have fun at Marinette's tonight, and I'll talk to Father about New Year's. Don't worry about it.”

Alya groaned. “Okay, fine. But you know you can always call if you change your mind. It's not gonna be the same without you.”

“Thanks.” There was so much appreciation, so much gratitude in that one word that it made Marinette's heart throb. “I'll…see you for New Year's, then.”

“No backing out!” Alya said. Adrien laughed out a goodbye, and she hung up. “Jeez, that Adrien. I bet he's spent the whole day by himself. Maybe we should go over there anyway and surprise him.”

They probably would have ended up going, if it weren't for the weather taking a turn for the worse only an hour later. But when it grew too cold and snowy for anyone to be walking anywhere, Nino and Alya's parents drove over to pick them up, and the plan to surprise Adrien had to be abandoned. Once Marinette had said her goodbyes to her friends and bade her parents good night, she went back up to her room and looked out at the white blur on the other side of her window.

“I guess patrol would be a bad idea in this weather,” she remarked to Tikki.

Tikki hovered at the window to look at the snow. “You could do it,” she said slowly, “but I don't know if you want to make Chat Noir go outside in that.”

“Not really,” Marinette admitted. She climbed up to her loft. “I should probably tell him to stay in so that he's not sitting outside waiting for me in that. Tikki, transform me.” She nestled herself under her blankets, just in case her parents came to check if she was in bed, and opened her yo-yo to call Chat.

He answered almost immediately. He must have just been getting ready to go out for patrol. Snow dusted his blond hair like little dots of powdered sugar. “My lady. What a pleasure. I was just on my way to meet you. Wait—where are you?” He leaned in closer on the screen, obviously inspecting her surroundings. “A tent? A…blanket?”

“I'm at home, inside, where it's warm,” she replied. She tried to ignore the wordless exclamation of surprise that came from the other end, and the attempted bombardment of questions that followed. “And that's where you should be, too. At home. I'm not going to make us patrol in this weather. And it's Christmas Eve anyway. You should stay home with your family. If they haven't already gone to bed, that is.”

“I don't mind patrolling tonight,” he insisted. “I'm a little old for a visit from Santa Claus, and I'd be the only one up back home. And the weather's really not that bad once you get used to it. It's actually kind of pretty. A little windy,” he admitted as a gust blew his bangs into his eyes, “but it's peaceful and quiet. We could just do a short lap around the Ile de la Cité and call it a night.” He hesitated. “Unless you'd rather stay inside. I won't make you come out in the cold, if you'd rather stay home. I can handle patrol by myself. I was … there was something I was hoping to give you tonight, but it can wait. I can always give it to you later.”

He had a present for her? She shook off the sudden impulse to go meet him, and forced herself to focus on the conversation. “You're seriously going to patrol in this weather by yourself?”

“If you want to stay inside and keep warm,” he confirmed. “It is a little chilly, I'll admit, but it could be worse. I think my kwami is helping me stay warm. And, um…I'd rather not be home right now, if I'm being entirely honest.”

That did it. Her kitty, alone in the cold, just to avoid being at home on Christmas Eve? She wasn't going to stand for it. “Stay right there, kitty. I'll come meet you, and we can patrol. My family's already gone to bed anyway. See you in five?”

Chat's face brightened like Christmas had already come. “I'll be waiting, my lady.” He swept her a bow before hanging up.

Ladybug scrambled out from under her covers and, after grabbing a couple of things, climbed through the trap door to her terrace. Once she had Chat's location identified on her yo-yo, she took off.

He'd been right; it really wasn't so bad outside when you were transformed and you got used to speeding through the chilly wind. She was pretty sure her nose had turned pink, but there were worse things in the world, and it at least wasn't running. Chat was waiting for her by the Panthéon when she got there. “Hope you didn't have to stand here too long,” she remarked as she came up to him.

Chat slung an arm around her shoulders and squeezed her close in a one-armed embrace. “Better than sitting at home,” he reminded her. He moved away just enough to look her over, like he couldn't believe she had actually come. “So … um … patrol? I figured maybe we could go up as far as the Pont des Artes and then loop around on the other side of the Seine and cross back over at the Pont de Sully.”

“How about we make that the Pont Marie,” Ladybug suggested. She held up the thermos she had snagged before leaving home. “I don't want this to get too cold.” He made a grab for the thermos, and she yanked it out of reach. “Nuh-uh, kitty. This is for after. We finish patrol first, and then I warm you up.”

“And I give you your present.” He grinned. “Okay, deal. Shall we?”

They kept patrol short as planned, although they did stop for a snowball fight at the Louvre for a few minutes and again at the Théâtre du Châtelet. They were both covered in powdery white by the time they finished, the snow in their hair sparkling like tiny stars under the street lights. At the Square René Viviani, they decided to call it quits rather than walk back to the Panthéon. The Christmas Market there had already closed, but they sat on one of the benches anyway, and Ladybug opened up the thermos.

“Hot chocolate?” Chat asked her excitedly after getting only one whiff of the thermos' contents. “You brought hot chocolate?”

She smiled; his delight was catching. “Homemade and fresh.” She poured out a full serving into the lid and passed it to him. “Here. Drink. Since you had to wait for me so long.”

“This is worth the wait,” he assured her, and took a long sip. When he set the lid down again, his eyes were alight with even more excitement than before. “This is amazing, Ladybug! Did you make this yourself?”

“Not by myself,” she admitted. “I made it with my family. But I did make these myself.” She offered him the few macarons she had managed to sneak out along with the thermos.

Chat looked like he probably would have hugged her again if he hadn't been holding onto a thermos lid full of hot chocolate. Instead, he settled for taking one of the macarons. “You're incredible. I didn't know you could bake.”

“I don't bake very often,” she said. “I just made some for a few friends I had over earlier, and my family took the leftovers. I had to sneak these ones back out of the kitchen to bring them here.” It was mostly true. She'd snuck them out of the bakery, not the kitchen, but Chat didn't have to know that and it was probably better if he didn't. It was just one little white lie.

“They still taste amazing.” He set the thermos lid down to start fumbling in his pocket. “Here. Before I forget, I have to give you your present.”

“You really didn't have to get me any—”

“But I wanted to.” He'd found what he was looking for; a little wrapped box sat in his palm expectantly, its ribbon somewhat crushed from being in his pocket for so long. “Take it. I insist. Consider it a…a thank you for all the time we've spent together.”

She wanted to argue, and probably would have, if it weren't for the expression on his face. He looked so happy to be giving her a present, so excited to see what she would think of it, that she didn't have the heart to refuse his gift. She took the box and tore off the wrapping. It looked suspiciously like a jewelry box. “Chat, what did you—”

“Open it before you try to scold me,” he insisted.

Ladybug sighed—if he had spent a huge amount of money buying her a gift, she thought, she was going to give him a very firm lecture on the matter—but did as he said. Inside the box was nestled a simple silver necklace chain, with a tiny pendant shaped like a Chinese character hanging from it. “Oh my God. Chat…”

“It means 'good luck' in Chinese,” Chat explained hurriedly, pointing to the pendant. “My kwami mentioned that the Miraculous had been in Tibet for a long time, but I was looking at the box it came in and it looked more Chinese than Tibetan, and the jewelry store didn't sell any Tibetan stuff anyway, and I knew this meant good luck in Chinese so I—”

“Wait, wait, wait.” She cut him off. “You speak Chinese?”

He blinked owlishly before her question seemed to register. Then he cringed. “Just a little,” he replied, though it sounded more like a question than an answer. “Enough to be able to read that. I…I figured this would be more subtle than you walking around wearing a ladybug pendant around your neck, and the only other subtle option I could think of was earrings, which would obviously be a bad idea for several reasons, and it kind of fit with the Chinese theme on the Miraculous cases, so…”

She smiled as he kept rambling on about how he had found the pendant and had bought it almost immediately. It fit more than he realized. She'd have to be careful about wearing it as a civilian, but she could probably pass it off as a gift from her great uncle or something. Taking it out of its box, she put it around her neck where it belonged. He slowly trailed off as he noticed she had put it on. “Thank you, Chat Noir. It's beautiful. I just wish I had something this nice to offer you in return.”

Chat held up the thermos. “This is more than enough for me,” he assured her. “Homemade hot chocolates and sweets? I wouldn't trade all the fancy jewelry in the world for something you made yourself.”

How was it that he always knew exactly what to say? She grinned and pulled him in for a hug. “Merry Christmas, Chat Noir.”

“So, are you going to head home?” Ladybug asked Chat as they stood and prepared to leave for the night.

He rubbed the back of his neck. “I might stay out a while longer. I'm not sure I'm ready to go back home just yet.”

Here was her chance to ask, then. It was a little selfish, after his sweet Christmas present, but she couldn't help it. “Then, um, while you're out, would you mind…checking on someone for me? He's been having a pretty bad night too and I just want to make sure he's doing okay.”

Chat's expression softened. “Of course. Who is it?”

“Adrien Agreste,” she answered. At Chat's stunned stare, she elaborated. “His father had work or something today, and he missed out on a Christmas party with his friends, so he spent the whole day by himself and I'm just kind of worried and he really doesn't deserve to be alone today so if you could just check on him for a few minutes…It'd be a chance for you to warm up before you go home, too, and that way you don't have to go home right away. If you don't want to, that's fine, I just thought…” She trailed off, her cheeks flushing redder than they already were from the cold.

Chat was quiet for a minute, looking down at the ground as if in thought. Then he looked back up at her and said, “Why don't you visit him?”

It was her turn to stare at him. “What?”

“I mean…” Chat shrugged. “You, um, you obviously care a lot about whether he's okay or not, and I've…heard he really admires you, so…um…he might appreciate it more if you went to see him?”

“You think so?” It sounded too good to be true. Far too good to be true. Adrien, admire her? Look up to her as a hero, maybe, (that was believable,) but admire her? She forced down the urge to spin in a giddy circle right then and there.

“Absolutely.” He shuffled his weight as if nervous. “So…um…you still want me to go, or…?”

Hell, she thought, she could buck up for five minutes to make sure Adrien wasn't entirely miserable. It was Christmas Eve, for heaven's sake. “I guess I can go.”

Adrien had just stepped out of his bathroom, a towel draped over his hair, when she got to the Agreste mansion. He noticed her at the window immediately. Ladybug? she saw him mouth through the glass. He opened the window for her, and stepped aside to let her in. “To, um, to what do I owe the, um…the pleasure?”

She was snapped out of her desperate attempt not to focus on the fact that he was in his pajamas. “Huh? Oh! I, uh, I heard from a…friend of yours that you were spending Christmas Eve alone, and I…thought maybe you would…like some company for a while…?” She trailed off into a whisper. It sounded much stupider when she said it out loud to him. Ladybug, superhero of Paris, keep him company because she'd heard he might be lonely? Why had she ever thought this was a good idea?

But Adrien didn't seem to think it sounded stupid, because he was smiling in that way that always made her feel like she was walking on air. “I would love to have your company for a while,” he said. Then his choice of words seemed to register belatedly in his mind, and he turned surprisingly red. “I—I mean! Um! Did I say love? I meant—um—never mind. Never mind. I…thought I misspoke but I guess I didn't. I thought I said I loved…I mean, never mind!”

Was he really that happy about having a visitor? Now she wished that she and Alya and Nino had braved the weather to come see him after all. Then he would have had more than just one person to spend time with, and they could have had their Christmas celebration just like they'd planned it. “So you've really been all alone all day?”

“Well, I have the gorilla,” Adrien hedged with an embarrassed smile, but she knew he didn't think that counted as company. “And Nathalie. So I haven't been entirely alone.” As if hoping to change the subject, he added, “I like your necklace, by the way. The 'good luck' pendant is really fitting.”

“Oh!” She'd forgotten she was wearing that! Shoot, she'd meant to take it off before coming here. She clasped her hand around the pendant. “Um, thank you. Chat Noir got it as a Christmas present…for…”

Wait.

“The 'good luck' pendant is really fitting.”

Wait just one minute.

“It means 'good luck' in Chinese,” Chat explained hurriedly, pointing to the pendant.

“Wait, wait, wait. You speak Chinese?”

“Just a little.”

Something clicked, a little something that she had probably noticed for a long time but had never wanted to connect. Her mouth popped open in a silent scream as she stared at Adrien. Her finger came up to point at him. He looked baffled until she managed to regain her power of speech enough to whisper hoarsely, “Chat Noir?”

If any part of her had been hoping he would deny it, those hopes were promptly dashed as he nodded and offered her a sheepish grin. “Hi, my lady,” he said with a tiny wave.

“Oh my God.” She covered her face with her hands and spun so that she didn't have to look at him anymore. This wasn't happening. This couldn't be happening. There was no way on earth that this was happening. “What happened to keeping our identities a secret?”

“I thought you were ready to share,” Adrien defended himself. “When you gave me those macarons from your family's bakery and said you'd made them yourself. I mean, you'd told me, what was I supposed to do? It wouldn't be right for me to know your identity and keep you in the dark about mine.”

“Wait.” She spun back around, afraid to look at him and peeking at him through her fingers anyway. “What do you mean, I told you?”

“You gave me macarons from your family's bakery,” he repeated. “They had the little logo on them and everything and you said you made them yourself.”

“Wait, wait, wait.” Ladybug fumbled for the crumpled bag that still held two of the macarons—Chat hadn't finished all of them earlier—and pulled one out. To her horror, she realized that in her rush to meet Chat Noir she must have grabbed the wrong macarons. The family bakery's logo was indeed stamped on the tops. “Oh, God. Oh my God. You're right. Oh my God.”

“Wait, are you telling me it was an accident?” Adrien paled. “You didn't do that on purpose? I thought you were just trying to be discreet about it, that's why I didn't say anything while I was eating them!”

“Oh my God, I screwed up, Tikki is gonna kill me, I'm so dead, I can't believe I didn't look at those stupid macarons before I put them in the bag—”

“Ladybug—”

“—and oh my God, if Hawk Moth finds out we know each other's identities then we're really gonna be screwed, because then he'll probably try to target us individually and make one of us reveal who the other is—”

“Ladybug—”

“—and Jesus Christ, kitty, did you really think I would reveal my identity to you in such a roundabout way instead of just flat out telling you, because I would never in a million years go about it that—”

“Marinette!”

Hearing her name while she was still transformed was enough of a  jolt that she cut herself off and stared at him. “What?”

He offered her a crooked smile. “Hawk Moth can do whatever he wants. I'd never tell him your identity. And, um…” He stepped closer, just close enough to take her hands in his. His eyes caught the moonlight filtering through the window, and reflected it back in beautiful shards of diamond-bright green, and Ladybug felt her breath stick somewhere in her throat.

“For what it's worth,” he said, his gaze never wavering from her eyes, “I'm really, really glad it's you.”

She didn't even have a chance to begin to think of what she could say in reply before he pulled her in for a crushingly tight embrace that lifted her feet an inch or two off the ground. Slowly, her mind began to register that Adrien was hugging her, Chat Noir was hugging her, and he really gave much greater hugs than she had ever given him credit for as Chat, and wait why is he hugging me? “A—Adrien?”

“Hm?” He set her down. “What is it?”

“I—I'm happy that you're happy about this, and that you promised never to tell anyone, but…um…I'm just curious. Why are you so happy about this?” How was he not freaking out? It was still taking everything in her not to scream about the fact that Chat freaking Noir was Adrien Agreste, and here he was grinning his head off and hugging her.

“Are you kidding? Marinette, you're one of my best friends and one of the most amazing people I know.” He traced the shape of her mask across her face. “Finding out that you're Ladybug? That just makes you even more incredible. I can't think of a single person I would rather have as my lady.”

She bit her lip. That was very high praise, even coming from Adrien, and it made her wonder guiltily—was she happy that he was Chat Noir? Or disappointed?

Adrien looked like he was starting to wonder the same thing; his bright smile was beginning to falter, and his hands slipped away from hers. “Too much?” he guessed ruefully.

Ladybug barely registered his question. Her mind was too busy racing, trying to sort out how she felt now that she knew her dorky kitty and her crush were the same person. Adrien, that sweet, sweet boy who had given her his umbrella even though she'd been treating him like dirt, and Chat Noir, her crazy, silly partner who always put her before himself in a fight. It seemed a bizarre dichotomy, and yet…not.

And then she remembered the confession she had written in her diary a very long time ago, a confession she had promptly decided to erase from her conscious memory after writing it.

If she hadn't met Adrien, she might have given Chat Noir a chance.

There was a strange irony in knowing that she had been rejecting Adrien because of…well…Adrien.

She almost laughed at herself out loud, and only stopped herself from doing so in the nick of time. God, she'd been such an idiot this whole time. But she knew what her answer would have to be now. If she really cared about Adrien the way she always claimed to, that meant accepting all of him.

Even the pun-loving, life-risking, leather-clad cat side of him.

Adrien was in the middle of talking when she finally pulled herself out of her thoughts. “—and if you hate me now I completely understand, it was stupid of me to assume that you were trying to reveal your identity that way and I never should have suggested for you to come here like this just so I could tell you who I am—”

“Adrien.” He snapped to attention, his expression inquisitive. She reached out to put a hand on his shoulder, and smiled in what she hoped was a reassuring manner and not as nervous-looking as she felt. “I don't hate you. I could never hate you. We're partners, remember? I would trust you with my life.” She took a deep breath. “And I guess in a way that's kind of what I'm trusting you with now, since if Hawk Moth ever discovered our identities it could mean our necks. I'm a little…shaken up, but I'm not mad, and I don't hate you. It was my stupid mistake that caused this problem, not you.”

Adrien sighed in relief. “So…”

“So we sort this mistake out one step at a time,” she said. “It's not the end of the world. We'll…we've survived worse. We'll be okay.”

“We'll be okay,” he agreed, and a slow smile made its way back onto his face.

“I should probably go,” she remarked, although she would rather have stayed and figured things out now. “It's getting really late and I wasn't expecting to stay long. But I'll, um…see you at school?”

“Yeah,” he said. “See you at school.”

“But, um, before I go…” She gave him a quick hug. “Just for the record, I'm…I'm really glad it's you.” Then she released him, and moved back towards the window. Adrien caught her wrist just as she was grabbing her yo-yo.

“Will you wear your necklace when I see you for New Year's?” he asked, a world of hope in his eyes.

She couldn't help smiling. It was such a simple request, and so like both Adrien and her kitty. “Nothing could ever convince me to take it off.” She turned to face him for just a second, bolstering up enough courage to manage a tiny kiss to his cheek. “Merry Christmas, kitty.”

Adrien's hand flew to his cheek as if he couldn't believe she had just kissed it, but he was beaming. “Merry Christmas, my lady.” And blowing her a kiss in return, he stepped back to let her leave.

end of 2017 love post

as 2017 comes to a close and new opportunities and possibilities become available to us i just want to say how thankful i am for some things that have happened to me this year: [warning this is rly long under the cut if ur mentioned like…just save urself and scroll down if u read the whole thing ur a [hyungwon in fighter voice] champion champion]

i realized recently i got into mx about 6 months ago 🎉these past six months have been some of my happiest! i struggle with depression but it just seems like the monsters never let me stay down for too long, and especially i think loving them has made me a kinder and more loving person. i give that credit to all of them, but i think especially minhyuk and wonho, whose hearts are too big for their chests! minhyuk who centers love in his life and wonho whose love pours out of him no matter what he does. all of the monster men are exceptionally loving but i’ve mostly focused on them in this regard.

i’ve liked kpop since late 2013, so i’m sometimes regretful i didn’t get into mx earlier, however i rly do believe the universe does these things on purpose, and they came into my life when i needed them. up until now, i’ve never liked a group so much for their beautiful hearts alone. i always say even if i couldn’t stand their music i wouldn’t love them any less, but the thing is, with such lovely personalities they still make such incredible music which i still listen to each day. there’s genuinely not a song i dislike out of all of them, and they have a lot of songs! each member is so beautiful and talented and Necessary for monsta x to be a group, and their love for one another and friendship is really not only a huge part of their success and teamwork, but also something i find really inspiring.

being a monbebe is also incredibly rewarding and it’s really a very reciprocated loving relationship. when i think about how the monsters say not to skip meals and to eat well, that’s so important to me! they don’t know me personally, but i know as a mbb they’d always want the best for me.

so because of 6 months ago being when i got into them, that’s about when i started posting about them on here. i had this blog and posted but mx made me want to be on it All The Time. i use it more than my main now lmao. while using it i’ve made such wonderful friends!! i really cannot believe it. i said this to amy last night but i just think the universe brings people together when it’s the right time, and out of every path there is in life and how many little things affect the outcome, i feel so lucky that I’ve been blessed with great new friendships! i think the universe’s timing couldn’t have been better.

i hope all of my friends feel loved and cared for, warm in their hearts, free of excessive worry, and will be happy and healthy always! especially in the new year, but always. i think like this often and always send my love! i used to be embarrassed by saying these kinds of things but especially over this last year i think it’s best to love in abundance. my friends and monsta x have filled my heart with so much love it seems like it’ll burst, but it seems like my heart always accommodates to fit it all. she grows and adapts. Iconic. this post is already so long so if you’ve made it this far thank you lmao and you’re probably hoping it’s over now, but unfortunately i have too much to say, like always!

to my friends thank you for being kind to me and bringing joy into my life even when i message too much and it might be burdensome!

favourite near-miss/actual miss scene I wish I have a good enough memory to think of a good answer for this. Sometimes I forget I watched entire dramas... let’s see... almost every scene in entourage, maybe the final scene in the good wife? edit: I think I misunderstood the question. I read it as a scene that kinda failed or totally failed. Like hit or miss scene?  pre-2008 drama you’d recommend and why I’m a fraud who’s only seen 4 dramas before 2010. Two I wouldn’t recommend (BOY and Nodame Cantabile), Coffee Prince (which everyone and their mother has seen) and Shinya Shokudo which came out in 2009. Even though this is cheating, I highly recommend Shinya Shokudo. It’s a warm yet melancholic ensemble drama set in a midnight diner. There’s food and interesting characters we don’t often see in dramas. There’s 4 seasons too!!  fave actress/actor of yours who does nothing to please you (taking bad projects, never taking projects, ghosting, dead career etc.) If you haven’t witnessed my public breakdown about this... you’re not a true fan of my blog! jk jk but my answer is Lee Young Ae. She goes on hiatus for 12 years to come back with this drama that doesn’t deserve her. I’m forever bitter and have nothing more to say on this matter. fave park joon geum role I’ve only completed one of her dramas so I’ll say Rooftop Prince? But I hardly remember anything about that drama. I like her in Mystery Queen! when do you think gong yoo is going to reveal that he has been secretly married and is now on his seventh child? (i need a date/year/month) when he dies and inheritance has to be figured out or when dispatch releases pics. can fans handle the truth?? I wouldn’t trust them enough to be open about this kind of stuff.  who is your pd/writer nemesis (never does anything you like, always fucks up, has ugly shots – KES is low hanging fruit, dig deeper) I googled the screenwriter who wrote The Moon Embracing the Sun aka my most hated completed drama of all time, and I see Jin Soo Wan also wrote Kill Me Heal Me and Chicago Typewriter... queen of plots with great potential (except for KMHM, that’s trash) but executed poorly.  favourite broadcaster and why? I looked at my favorites list and most of my fave kdramas are from jtbc or tvn which is quite surprising to me since they also have a lot of misses for me. who’s brand do you enjoy the most of all actors/actresses – like how they sell themselves? kang ha neul’s dorkiness is charming, gong hyo jin’s fashion forward chicness is also lovely. I don’t watch a lot of variety or interviews so I don’t know actors’ brands.  why did no one care about choi daniel going to the army and the fact that he has been gone since 2015? I’m sorry. I don’t know who this is and I haven’t seen any of his projects. I hope he’s found. who’s next to break out in a big way? hmm... I’m not sure if they’re popular but they’re almost always second leads or minor characters. I think they’re great and should have main leads more often: Yoon Gyun Sang (I hope he gets a lot more attention after Rebel), Takahashi Issei and Zhang Vin (he has a lead role in 2018!). I don’t know if she’s popular but I think Kang So Ra is great and deserves bigger roles or better dramas. That doesn’t exactly answer your question but I think these actors can become more popular after their current projects or if they’re in good dramas. 

dream pairings (which actors do you want to work tgt in a drama)? I want a Takahashi Issei and Mitsushima Hikari drama right now!! They had good chemistry in quartet and now I want to see them again in another project!! favourite genre in a drama? most of my favorite dramas have a women ensemble cast and focus on women’s stories. It’s Okay That’s Love in 2014! favourite ensemble cast in a drama? as I mentioned in favorite genre... age of youth, dear my friends, ode to joy, tokyo tarareba musume, reply 88. all shows with a lot of interesting ladies. outside of that, nobunaga concerto and juhan shuttai have great ensemble casts. I.... really like ensembles ok? an actor you hope will breakout soon? answered previously but out of all I listed, Takahashi Issei an actress you hope will breakout soon? answered previously an actor you’re tired of seeing? ohohoho! nam joo hyuk, kim soo hyun, park hyung shik, sung joon, lee jong suk, park hae jin, all actors who’ve had sexual assault/domestic violence allegations and have intact careers, wang kai and his barely there acting...

I've heard different sides on this, some from ordinary folks and other from doctors. Most of the Doctors, I've noticed, don't think they do real medicine/ have an impact and shouldn't be considered doctors. I was just wondering your whole take on the vets are doctors debate was? Hope you have a lovely day!

Hi, and thank you! When I was deciding which direction to go with my studies, I spent a lot of time considering veterinary medicine, which was always my dream as a kid. My family were supportive of either choice, and things like how the respective jobs are viewed really didn’t factor into my choices at the time. I’m happy with where I am and what I chose, but I believe I would also have loved being a vet. As such, I don’t believe that vets need my approval as a (human) doctor; they are immensely smart, hardworking individuals in their own right.It depends a lot on how you define the term doctor. Lots of dictionaries, particularly the UK ones, define a doctor as a person who is trained to treat sick or injured people. By this definition, a vet wouldn’t be a doctor because the definition is limited to people. Interestingly, the Oxford dictionary mentions that US usage includes dentists and vets, something that Merriam-Webster confirms. I rather like the MW definition of ‘a person skilled or specializing in healing arts; especially  :  one (as a physician, dentist, or veterinarian) who holds an advanced degree and is licensed to practice’. Even though it’s not a UKdefinition, and doesn’t really g along with what I see in the UK. For example, we don’t really call our dentists ‘doc’. Personally, I call my pets’ vets ‘doc’, though. I notice all the UK defintions refer more specifically to treating humans, whereas the US ones include dentists and vets and I do wonder if the attitudes to vets differ between the US and UK too. Now, I always find it amusing that dentists are a separate career at all. Shouldn’t they just be tooth doctors? Like, just a speciality branching off medicine but focused on teeth? That would make sense. But historically, their career developed seperately, and we are left with the fact that it’s a whole different degree. Medicine is full of such silly things; in the UK, surgeons are called Mr or Miss, because surgery used to be a different profession to being a physician, with a completely different training path. As such, physicians looked down on barber surgeons and wanted them to know their place. Skip forward hundreds of years and we get an MBBS degree that stands for bachelor of medicine, bachelor of surgery, in testament to the fact that our two training paths are now entwined at the point of med school. So weird historical happenings have always shaped how we see different professions and how we define them. Here, I feel the term is most often used in everyday lay-terms to refer to human doctors, because most people are talking and thinking about their own medical experiences when using the term.It’s also interesting to ponder; just how does that definition exclude nurses, physios etc? lots of allied professions have an important hand in diagnosing and managing ill patients. They aren’t technically ‘doctors’, though that definition wouldn’t exclude them. Meanwhile, you could argue the only ‘real doctors’ out there are actually people who have PhDs (standard joke with my PhD-doc friends); because that definition of doctor still stands. The way I see it, a vet isn’t a class of doctor, it’s the other way around. Rather, a doctor is just a super-specific type of vet, who happens to only deal with one species. We’re just super-specialised to the point where we only deal with people, or only deal with a particular organ system or sub-group of people. And since we look after our own species, and people are a self-important sort, humans sometimes wrongly value human-vets more because they frequently place more value on human lives and comfort than those of animals. The only way it would even vaguely theoretically matter if we call dentists or vets doctors, is to ensure that there isn’t any confusion as to who is qualified to do what; I’m sure a dentist or vet wouldn’t declare themselves as Drs if they were, say, visiting hospital, because it might cause some confusion.  But then, I wouldn’t either unless I had to; Dr Dx is my professional title not the way I introduce myself at parties! Or a human emergency happened that required more than the basic first aid they could provide, i’m sure they would be open about the limits of their expertise in human treatment. I really don’t think that dentists or vets are out to mislead people into thinking they are human doctors, or treating people in ways they are unqualified to do so. PhDs I know who work in healthcare (say, nurses, researchers, etc) but aren’t medical doctors also tend to keep their Dr title out of conversation with patients not to confuse them as to their job, but of course are free to otherwise refer to themselves as Dr professionally outside of that clinical context. Vets don’t do human medicine, and whether you consider them doctors might depend on how strict your definition of that word is; in the UK it seems that our definition is more exclusive. But they do the equivalent job for a wide range of species, which deserves a huge amount of respect. They are animal doctors as opposed to human doctors. They work with the same principles relating to pathology and pharmacology, etc, just relating to a different population. What they do is absolutely equal (though different in some ways), and I have no time for the notion that they are irrelevant or what they do ‘doesn’t matter’ or ‘isn’t real medicine’. What they do matters a great deal to the animals they free from suffering, and for the people whose beloved pets and livestock and wildlife they provide care. The idea of a world without vets, in which nothing can be done to mitigate animal suffering is as horrifying as the idea of a world without human medicine. Although I don’t work with them in the NHS (wouldn’t an animal NHS be great?) I consider them colleagues in the healing arts. And even if the definition of ‘doctor’ is specific enough to exclude people treating non-human patients, that doesn’t make them any less important, because definitions don’t dictate the value of jobs that happen not to fall under a term. Definitiions are artificial things, as are the lines we draw between different jobs, and what falls under whose remit. The problem here isn’t necesarily the definition of doctor, as much as it is people devaluing different professions. I almost don’t think it matters whether you call them ‘doctors’ or not, what matters is respecting their training Nurses aren’t doctors, but they do an important job and deserve equal respect.

Hi angel!!! Ahh the baverse episode was so good, I love how introspective and emotionally connected kyun is. It’s so interesting to hear him talk about his connection with loneliness and sadness, he has a very unique perspective that I don’t think I’ve ever heard before, but I think it suits him. Also I loved all the part with Joo where he was like, yes kyun is kind of a loner and has a quiet personality, but he’s still cute and a very good friend (the part where he called kyun cute and he just looked into the camera and smiled made me smile so hard, I love them 😭) I’m really loving this series so much (bc the woodz one was super good too!) hi madch!! i'm doing ok - i Finally made a gifset today bc i felt like playing w colours - unfortunately not from my gif ideas list but it was a set for the secrets band ver video!!! (you might see it on your dash but idk 👀 + out of curiosity what are you working on)

i get what you mean abt IB/AP war flashbacks LMAOO it was really stressful for me, and in my final year of hs i realized how toxic some of the people were - some of them had huge egos/superiority complexes esp those at the top of the class (+ they weren't funny. at all hahaha) or were really entitled it was... yikes. first 2 years of hs is something called "pre-ib" and then last 2 years (grades 11-12) is the actual "ib diploma" program (we also had 2 semesters in an academic year so 4 semesters of hell and constant burnout). i didn't actually do the full diploma program,, i did certificate for my own sanity - for me i did 3 IB courses instead of the normal 6. and ofc i'll tell you when i'm in the mood to watch food vlogs <33

i think he'll post when he's enlisted too :)) esp after his training period. and you're right abt the civilian stuff, i heard he was gonna work a 9-5 office job for his enlistment lol. i think mbbs will be ok though :)) - 🌱
