hey, sorry, uh, just to start this off, i don't really think i'm "enough"? I DONT MEAN THAT in a way that pities myself i mean. okay, its not like i lived in an unlovable environment growing up, but i mostly lived alone as a child because me parents are workaholics, and whenever my family is at home they always treated me like some kinda burden and that if i dont do something that they like theyd hate me. theyre actually good people but, yeah.

now the thing is, i have a significant other. its not my first relationship, though i guess it is, but i had someone before and we liked each other a lot for years, but he didnt wanna label anything and it kinda fizzled when he ghosted me, so i guess this is my first official relationship? idk, but anyway

im a very anxious person because of past family stuff and then the past "relationship" and now, my current s/o is so?? loving??? IDK HE TAKES CARE OF ME A LOT and he talks to me about things that make me anxious and he calms me down really well and ??? i really didnt expect this from him when i liked him, hes a goofy person so i didnt rely on him to be caring and ik thats kinda weird of me but i dont know what to do? he says things about wanting us to last long because he really likes me and all that and ive always taken it as a sort of joke because im a lot and i really dont think anyone can handle all of my me-ness with mental health and just, me in general, so ive always joked with saying things like whwnever he says he likes me i say, "for now" and things like that

a few days ago he asked me why i do that and if there was a problem, does he make me uncomfortable w it, etc, and i told him that there isnt and im just wired like this and he??? told me to trust him and that hed take care of my worries alongside me and im????? I DONT KNOW I FEEL LIKE IM EXPERIENCING LOVE FOR THE FIRST TIME which is weird cause its not like i dont have friends who like me, and i love them! its just that

I honestly think that the healthiest thing you can do is make peace with the fact that this isn't your decision to make. You can (and should) be honest with him about what he's committing to, and why you're doubting this and feeling insecure and unworthy. But once he has that information on hand, whether you're worthy of his love as you are is HIS decision to make. And the best thing you can do is respect his own ability to decide this instead of fighting his choice.

‘_’ im frustrated about tusk sorry . um.

something that aggravates me about tusk is that the like concept is very alluring and makes a good horror movie and i think the puppet/costume work is fucking phenomenal but like...everything else about it fucking sucks the plot is kind of messy it struggles to keep a consistent tone and the main guy is a fucking asshole, which makes it difficult to emphasize w him in the second half of the movie when it’s still relatively fresh all the shit he did in the first half. and this aspect of it especially makes any analytical lens you try to apply to the movie far less cohesive than it really could be. like. obviously a central tenet is what makes us human and separates us from the animals/”the monstrous” because it is a body horror. fucking duh. and this movie explicitly shows like crying/vulnerability as the difference (which like. animals cry but whatever whatever.) and so one aspect you can take to this is that in becoming a monster on the outside wallace is given the chance to reflect on and feel remorseful about the monster he became on the inside, which i think is supported by the fact that when he is ‘human’ he struggles to emphasize w people and to show any emotional vulnerability but once he has been forcibly twisted into something else it’s about all he does. but in that he never really actually atones for anything he does and the girlfriend and friend he was consistently assholes to stick by him? through all that? she says she loves him? but she was cheating on him. with his friend. so the movie tries to present this as like a heart wrenching thing how sad but it like fucking isn’t bc it’s a little difficult to believe they actually care. especially when there’s also a fair interpretation that there are all kind of assholes but wallace is the worst of them. and they never really corrected him or pulled him out of that and now they never really can. even though he makes fun of her for being latina?? its fucking weird and uncomfortable. and like. is that something the movie is trying to say? that you need to pay attention to your friends and you need to hold them accountable lest you enable monstrous behavior? but that only holds up if you focus on that specific part of the film and nothing else. did they make the main character an asshole to employ some sort of message about how there are some fates that not even the worse people deserve? but then the film contradicts itself when it sees howard’s death as a victory, as a fate that he fully deserves. it is because it’s self orchestrated? is it because he’s crossed a line? what is that line? because ik this was written in 2014 but . with the hindsight i have in 2022 we know a lot more how damaging edgy ‘ironic’ right wing humor can be and thats what the podcast in the movie is, it’s just shitting on people through raunchy humor thats “too much to sayy!11!!! “ that atp im sick of and it makes me struggle to feel empathy for a character when feeling empathy for that character is like. a main crux of the film. i mean it sucks on like a body horror level i guess like its horrific. and i think the ending scene with him now having to live as something completely other with only fleeting memories of a human life COULD be more impactful if the two people he remembers... didn’t have such a mutual asshole relationship to him? i struggle to believe these people liked each other. idk it just really sours the emotional tenants they try to employ. like it all falls apart and any way i try to like. look at this movie w a critical lens and try to appreciate it as more than like. wow look at this fucked up thing! i struggle to come up w anything cohesive and like its fine to have that kind of movie i guess. WHEN ITS DONE WELL. WHICH THIS ONE REALLY ISNT. (again the creature/costume is fine. i think the artists did a good job w that but the story and characters really fucking bother me...)

also j*hnny fucking dep is in it which completely blindsided me the first time and continues to do so bc 1. i don’t want to fucking see his face ever again 2. his character genuinely ruins the movie. at maybe an equal level to the main character. it’s one of the most tone deaf character writing decisions ive ever fucking seen and i read somewhere it was fucking improv? which would not surprise me. he appears like . a third of the way through as a bumbling detective who miraculously is the only one who actually knows wtf is happening but the way the character is portrayed is so fucking aggravating and every conversation with him is needlessly looping and annoyingly long. for no fucking reason!! by this point in the film theyve established a solid feeling of dread, youve seen the walrus suit, the sickening feeling is sinking in and then this is just fucking thrown at you? it completely took me out of it. it makes me so fucking mad. ugh .

and on the topic of detectives all the police in this movie are portrayed as fucking stupid which like based. but thats also consistently wrapped up in really weird canadian stereotype jokes that just get like. uncomfortable by the like middle of the movie like wow canadians have an accent whoooaaa. fuck dude i didn’t know that ‘_’. its fucking annoying who gives a shit about this really. and like maybe this is to reinforce how much of an asshole the mc is but again ^ as i said above bizarre writing choice bc it makes it difficult to emphasize w him.

yeah. tusk its mid as hell i like the creature design . i wish the premise was in a better story bc i think its a cool as fuck body horror concept. honestly

I'd also like to ask a follow up question about it, because it seems that I've come to a different concl. from many of my friends and I'm feeling dumb abt how i feel w it.

first of all (and i say this as sincerely as possible, and if i'm coming off as condesending please let me know hh), please don't feel dumb because you've come to a different conclusion :(

we all read media at different levels (i’ve been told it’s ‘not that deep’ before fdljkfsdlkj) and identify different aspects in it, so the fact that you've had a different experience to some of your friends is absolutely not a reflection on your intelligence. and if anyone's making you feel that way, drop their @. i just want to talk :) furthermore, you’re not wrong for responding to something emotionally, especially if it really... makes you uncomfortable, you know? 

i'm from the PH & I've put off determining whether i'm comfy w the manga til the last chap,,,, but is it wrong that I can't shake the feeling that it's a justification of japanese expansionism and genocide? ik this manga has always been in the grey area, and that's what I love abt it! It often shows that no choice they make is absolutely good or bad, and does such a good job at showing you how each complex character came to that understanding (role of environment, etc...) but this last chapter felt too positive abt the rumbling? Like it was justified because paradis was able to advance and there wasn't much choice? idk.

that's totally valid! some of the best think pieces on the show i read mentioned that the concern with the narrative is less "is isayama a nazi sympathiser?" (he most likely isn't), but if he's a imperial japan apologist. and...

well, let's just say that my father is british, and when i was trying to say that colonisation was bad, using british india as an example, he said "well, we gave them railroads." it's... it's uncomfortable and gross and i think it encapsulates how countries with imperial pasts tend to talk about them; even if they don't officially endorse it, there's often a lot of talk about how "well colonialism was good for this country, actually--"

and if the manga felt like it was justifying japanese expansionism, then chances are it had elements that very much did point towards that. i've had a lot of trouble grappling with reiner, annie and bertolt, because they've existed in this grey area of 'victim of oppression' and 'war criminal'; and their existence raises the question of "do people who commit war crimes simply do what needs to be done?" and by victimising them it... it plays into the whole nuremberg defense of "i was just following orders". it's making you feel bad for the people committing said war crimes (and similarly with eren, and all the awful things he's done). but i'll get more into this point later dsfkjfd

i haven't read the last chapter yet (and don't worry about spoilers! i've been approaching aot from a very... specific perspective anyway, so i actually don't mind spoilers -- i read a bunch of analyses of the series before i'd even watched it hh), but... i think if it came off as too positive about, you know... an awful thing that happened, then it absolutely makes sense that you'd feel uncomfortable?

similarly, the 'we had no choice' narrative. that's... a concerning one that crops up time and again with history apologists, the argument that "oh if x country hadn't done y, then someone else would've!" or that acts of aggression were done as pre-emptive self-defence, which is so... ugh. i just. i just hate it.

It also feels really weird w the ymir and the whole loving fritz thing. i wish we got to see more of her thought process and what conclusion she came to that led her to destroying the power of the titans.

i... hate this so much. i get that abuse is complicated and victims often have multifaceted feelings towards their abusers, but... most people would focus on that in their story? the story would be about that? but instead, it's just... a thing in the history of the world and that's... icky.

also having the genesis of the titans come from a slave girl in love with her captor... there's many levels of ick to it and i highly doubt it was handled with the appropriate level of grace and sensitivity.

honestly, this might be one of the things that pissed me off the most because of how... contradictory her backstory was with That One Chapter (you know, instead of ymir crying because she wants to be free or because she’s been trapped she........ wants to see mikasa kiss eren’s decapitated head? i guess? what the fuck?) 

idk...I just think that context is sometimes everything. and i understand that media can portray incorrect things,,,, and that isayama likely didn't intend for it to become a global sensation, but i guess i'm just uncomfortable w the right wing nazis getting a comfort book ahaha.

it’s hard because before the ending, attack on titan did feel like it was more grey; i remember saying that i wouldn’t know how to feel about it until the ending because the story was either saying “the military is corrupt and war is hell”, or it was saying “the military is corrupt and war is hell, but it is necessary.”

I think i'm having a hard time understanding what they really accomplished with the rumbling and how they gave eren a sudden lelouch role and a lot of how they made it out to be a happy thing? perhaps I'm too biased to see it fully but to me it gives a "woah. eren was a hero. he saved us from destruction. those people needed to die for us to achieve this temporary peace and new start". i suppose the rumbling gave them a levelled playing ground?

that's to say, i don't believe there's such thing as basing your opinion too much on feelings :') especially since it's your personal experience with a piece of media; you don't owe anyone 'objectivity' (which is always a farce when it comes to this sort of thing) or 'logical analysis', because nobody's got any right to criticise you for engaging with media the 'wrong way'.

HHHHHHH i just hate eren and i never got him. i felt bad for him in the beginning, but he's always been too... violent for me. there was a very short period of time in season 2 where i felt bad for him, but otherwise it’s just been... ugh. the main three have always been the weakest part of the series imo, so it’s really not surprising they’re part of the reason the ending was so. bad. 

and... well, that one infamous quote pretty much sums up my issue with armin. he's supposed to be the 'intelligent' one, but he's hopelessly devoted to a homicidal maniac with whom he has a very artificial, unbelievable bond with.

at the end of the day, the "thank you for becoming our monster" thing just makes it seem like attack on titan's core message is "war is horrible, but it is necessary." it feels like it's justifying massacre. and while fiction is fiction, and sometimes it's as simple as that, i think something as politically loaded as attack on titan needs to be looked at with a critical lens when discussing what it’s trying to say or what it means. 

do i think it makes someone a Bad Person for liking aot or being attached to it in some way? no, because that’s dumb, and what media someone likes =/= their Moral Goodness TM. ofc trends are a thing and certain pieces of media appeal to certain types of people, but it’s a false equivalency that misses the point. 

but by that same breath, nobody is wrong or stupid or has Less Valid Opinions just because what they took away from it makes them uncomfortable.

he has sort of a cioranian attitude to the value of life, like, hes one of them “theres always reason to kill a man, theres no way to justify his living” types. he doesnt believe in nationalism per se but he does believe in war, hes literally a mercenary, and hed probably get along just fine with someone like mike hoare, but hes not one for unnecessary cruelty. hes kind to who he considers innocent. if he was alive today i can see him getting grouped w/ like, anti-natalists, right-wing “primitivists,” people who browse /fo/, people who think theyll thrive in the post-apocalypse even though they cant even spin yarn, people who dont understand fallout, you know, those types, but i like to think his attitude wrt civ is closer to perlmans or, well, mine. its a good thing he doesnt live in internet times. he thinks technology makes people complacent and weak and hes fallen into the trap of the “noble savage” myth; sign of the times. he could just as easily live off the grid in like, alberta, but he chose to stay in southern africa bc of his colonial attitudes & fetishization of the “less developed.” (sidenote, if youre like, new here n reading this for some reason, yea i write like really really bad characters were talking irredeemably evil here, just like, know that im aware of that.) also he detests hippies for both bad and good reasons ⸻ not much, really, hes an opportunist, a hedonist, hes selfish, goes w/ the flow. he thinks denying yourself pleasure for no reason is microfascism — not in those words — and while he doesnt think that selfishness leads to a bettering of overall society, hes no randian, he feels justified in what he does. hes uh, a mercenary in spirit and ive always intended to have him join the marines n later work for a pmc but were nowhere near there yet

he likes people (men, that is) that are exactly like him. he likes Narrator bc hes just as quiet, as patient, as stubborn, as antisocial (using that the right way here, i like, know about psychology), as violent, as old-timey-ly masculine as he is. he can tolerate clade (his former accountant) bc she keeps to herself and shes loyal to a fault, but he doesnt go out of his way to like, actually talk to her. he likes will bc he reminds him of what he was like as a child living with his matabele mother. ⸻ he hates everything he perceives as weakness, but hes not all that open about that, i think hes not even 100% aware thats what it is. he needs to be talked back to. he lacks compassion, doesnt know how to deal w/ anyone whos less resilient and abrasive than himself.

absolutely the fuck not i hate magic. hes not religious, actually feels a little intimidated by religion. in one version of his story he spends his 50s on east nusa tenggara where he doesnt live far from a church, and he makes peace w/ the concept of god thanks to the influence of catholic-raised Narrator, but i doubt hell ever actually step foot into a church, or temple, or mosque, or what-have-you. hes internalized some things during his upbringing though that he doesnt classify as religious. little superstitions. he likes to keep objects that may be used for divination around his house, but he never touches them. ⸻ not religious, but if he had to pick, like to pretend, hed say baptist.

nah ⸻ like, the regular american ones. hell welcome any excuse to drink and to socialize, and id say his favorite holiday is the 4th of july, really just bc he likes warm weather and theres not a lot else you can celebrate in the middle of summer. hes not attached to the significance of any holidays. hes not crazy about christmas but he likes his family well enough and hell go along w/ it all, just to have sth to do. hes not good w/ time off.

he tweeted out a short video with no caption (i believe around 20-30s) of a black screen with glitched n garbled noises, with one bright flash near the middle.

he replied to people’s confused replies to the post with cryptic, short messages written in a small unicode text

shortly after this, he deleted the tweets n changed his twitter back to normal and set up a stream for cuphead.

this is all the clues there are cus oliver is a cryptic shit.

heres some stuff ive deduced/know?

the 6 black boxes he had as his name match up directly with the amount of letters in oliver- his real name. someone in the replies also noted this.

the strange video seems very similar to the cryptic videos mark posted lately on his twitter: 3 and 2.

the /secrets link in his info is NOT new. a while ago,it was up on his twitch under the command ’!secrets’- which would give you said link. he invited people to try n figure out what it meant/crack the password. (i remember one time in chat someone said they cracked it n cran mentioned it im not sure if it was for real/if they confirmed it w/ him which cran said he would.) however, it seems to not be up on his nightbot commands page anymore. (also, i swear im not lying w/ this- unfortunately w/ these cryptic things i have no proof to give but im certain it was there. the vods arent in his archive anymore but this is true, i promise.)

in the replies (some can be seen in the post linked @ the beginning) whoever cran is speaking as states they do not know who mark or dark is. this seems to directly contradict the theory that the dark situation n this is related, but 1) they could be lying or trying to avoid, 2) they could be unaware of the relation but still be connected, or 3) it could actually be completely unrelated- but i think this is a bit too much of a coincidence for that to be true. (the messages are just so cryptic n short it just seems unlikely, imo. also, if cran is just doing his own spoopy thing cus its october (which is possible n also cool), it seems odd he’d choose to address those questions b/c if he wanted to keep it separate, why not just ignore stuff abt other dark!egos n keep it his own? or im reading too far into this, but heck.)

(ooc) thinking more irl n literally, mark has worked w/ many artists, animators n fan creators in the past- even more so recently. as well as this, cran has worked w/ mark many times before- and is more closely related to him than other fan artists. (also hes in kinda like an ‘animator squad’ w/ other well-known animators/artists who worked closely w/ youtubers which basically has pixlpit, foolishcptnkia, grittysugar, nattcatt, and some others who are p close w/ mark n jack)

thats enough pic spam- lets talk abt this. it seems p certain that its a glitched photo of oliver- the facial features seem to match up fairly well. his face seems to be tilted weirdly back to the right (our right, shown by the arrows)- this is a p stereotypical menacing pose- its odd and inhuman which makes it look creepy to the audience. this also gives some major anti vibes- hes moving his head in a way thats uncomfortable and almost looks broken- choppy or glitched- not really something youd usually do or see.

but aside from that- its v shadowy n dark. there are some key facial features missing- the eyes n mouth- (the ears n features in the back would be hidden anyway) we associate these features w/ being human. thats why it looks so weird when someones missing an eye or has a 3rd eye or a stitched mouth.

not just that though- cran has something else that is associated w/ him. and its puppets- his stop-motion puppets. if you dont know- cran likes to have self-inserts in his animations and works- he has large self-insert parts in both his most recent mark animation n his cranbersher’s guide series that have large plot points or hidden plots associated w/ them. point is- puppets have a lot to do with his channel n image on the web.

abt a month ago, cran posted a tweet finishing off a month or so old thread that was quite eerie, to say the least. (keep in mind that puppets take a long, long time to make n that he only scraps them when they break, n this is obviously not normal) that ended in this photo:
