no bc. like. the eighth sense is getting EVERYTHING right.

it's compelling. like. you feel like you KNOW where the storyline is going, what's going to happen next, and then BHAM! NO! something entirely different happens. its never boring. and it makes the wait for the next episode jittery and anxious and it leaves you on tenterhooks BUT THAT'S THE POINT! its meant to leave you guessing. its got this "impending sense of doom" vibe to it that i referred to in a previous post, but that describes the current vibe of jaewon and jihyun's relationship and the atmosphere surrounding it: its thrilling.

characters can breathe!!! and we can breathe with them! jaewon and jihyun are allowed to have scenes where its just them alone, immersed in a hobby that THEY like, and you're there with them! they get to have scenes with so many other people that aren't just with each other. they get to form real relationships with their boss, their therapist, their new and old friends. and each relationship and dynamic brings something new, each dynamic formed between jaewon or jihyun and the people around them is made to allow a certain type of conversation to be had for jaewon and jihyun that they can't really have with someone who isn't that character, for example jihyun can only really openly speak to his boss in the same way jaewon can to yoonwon or his therapist. jihyun can't talk in that same manner to anyone else, nor can jaewon. at the same time, it also soooo BEAUTIFULLY illustrates how performative we can become in certain relationships and situations and around certain people, and how unhealthy and detrimental that can be for us - look at jaewon and taehyung, who are meant to be best friends, but are anything but it.

its such a QUEER show. it takes the small little scenes you'd normally see in a white western heterosexual movie, like the two love interests linking their pinky fingers together to then clasping each other's hands and smiling shyly to the side, to sitting opposite one another on a train and just gazing and gazing and gazing at one another, to calling a taxi after your not-a-date-but-its-so-a-date to go home in and the taxi is literally stood right there waiting but you can't let each other go ..... its taken all those cliche scenes and made them feel so ... new and fresh and vibrant and so so QUEER and any queer person watching the show FEELS those butterflies in their stomach.

oh to see a main character who is asian and queer actually GO TO therapy, and imply that jaewon has been going for 10 whole years to therapy. to have his mental illness be given a name (depression!), to have him talk about his issues so openly!!, to discuss what the struggles of being in your mid-twenties feel like!! to see him talk about how burdensome he finds it being "nice" to everyone and wearing a mask all the time and ultimately his therapist telling him straight that, "in fact, in life, you don't need to be loved by everyone." or when jihyun's boss stood up for him and fought eunji over how she treated him bc she KNOWS jihyun would never bc he isnt a confrontational person, but jihyun's boss did not stand for it, and how she continues to just give him the correct life advice as and when he needs it.

the romance. the chemistry. the way jaewon and jihyun pull you into their bubble. the way you feel the excitement and joy and apprehension and tension and heartache and disappointment between the two of them. YOU feel it. and thats all down to the way the show has been shot and the muuuuusic (oh my god the muuuuusic) and the way the camera is used. it makes it feel personal. in first person. not you watching them, but rather, you BEING them. the way you can FEEL how nervous and anxious jihyun gets when he is in ANY kind of social situation. how you can FEEL the quiet anger and the exhaustion from being so performative and the lack of patience in jaewon like a ticking timebomb when he's around taehyung. you do, you just FEEL it.

anyway. the eighth sense might just be (who am i kidding, it already is) on its way to claim the title for the best bl of 2023, and its only april.

I believe that Rei is dad-coded and Kazuki is mom-coded, not because Kazuki cooks and cleans and Rei rests at home, owns the house, and carries the missions, therefore "doing the work" (although that's part of it, too), but because of the difference in how they value each other and Miri.

I don't know how to explain but there's a quote from a book called "a dangerous silence" that i read several years ago, I don't remember the exact words but I never forgot the message. It was said from a brother to a sister in a conversation about their mother who died young and their complicated father, and went something like: "We [the kids] may have been her [the mom's] world, but she was his [the dad's] world."

Miri is Kazuki's world and Rei's world is Kazuki.

Like Kazuki took to Miri immediately while Rei came around to it after battling with his own childhood issues, issues with his father, his separation from whom he was only able to survive for so long because of Kazuki. The journey to Kazuki's healing began with Miri in the first episode, while Rei's journey to healing began with Kazuki, pre-canon.

Not to say that they don't both love Miri and each other fiercely, it's just a different dynamic with them both much like how it is with a mother and father. Also, initially and throughout the series, what gets Rei to come out of his shell is always Kazuki, even in the moments when it's for Miri. Rei notices when Kazuki feels down and tries, in his own way, to cheer him up. In episode 10 when they were on that last outing, Kazuki spends the entire episode on the verge of tears and Rei spent it worrying for him. It's only on the ferris wheel, when Kazuki makes him acknowledge it, that his lips tremble. I feel like there's also a factor of it being like Rei thinking that Kazuki is the better parent for Miri and therefore by prioritizing Kazuki, he is in fact prioritizing Miri.

And there's a thing where mothers can cope with the death of their spouses on their own while fathers cope by repartnering and that's because they need a life partner. That or they end up like most grumpy widowers we see on tv (obvi 100% accuracy guaranteed). And I have actually seen this in real time in both cases. The mother stays strong for the children, the dad is listless. (Of course not every case is the same, just from my experience and what studies show, but there's also Katniss' mom and whatever this isnt about them)

So, I believe that in the event of a death in the anime (extremely unlikely, but whatevs), Kazuki will be devastated, he will grieve, but he'll survive (not taking into consideration that this is the second time a loved one has died) if only for Miri's sake, he can be strong. And even if Miri didn't exist, he has the capability to carry on because even if he'd blame himself, he's good at ignoring his feelings and compartmentalizing. Rei though does not have that talent. He is self destructive and self depreciative. If Kazuki died, i have a feeling he would blame himself, and always think that he shouldve been the one that died, that Miri deserved the better father. Maybe he'd even punish himself by staying away from Miri, not letting himself be happy, etc. I believe that if Kazuki dies, after securing a home for Miri, Rei will actively try to die. That is until Kyu beats some sense into him but yeah.

Kazuki is mom-coded and Rei is dad-coded.

I’ve done a similar response to this before here and mentioned something else about it here but I’ll go over it again since those posts are both from a while ago. also bear in mind I haven’t seen aya recently bc I don’t like it. okay let’s get into it

[also im gonna preface this saying maybe i sound very pessimistic but im ranting and its just gonna sound like im complaining because i am. i mean no real malice by the way. im simply a person with a blog.]

first off. they don’t use the show don’t tell as well as they could. in the what might have been montage, sure, they showed potential scenarios and how phineas felt (very briefly) when isa stopped visiting his backyard but it just feels so rushed. I get that they only had like 11 minutes to show it but idk there has to be another way to write it. or just not have it at all idk its just from a writing point of view the whole episode feels rushed and out of place from everything else continuity-wise. why not use little easter eggs planted in the show beforehand? operation crumbcake? pharmacists? meapless in seattle? god theres so many episodes with evidence that phineas liked her back even if he didnt know. just. continuity!!!!

second. why did their friends not try something sooner. it’s not like they didn’t know. like phineas seems to be okay with saying “i wish! i am so in the friend zone there” in front of his friends (that quote alone makes me lose my shit but that’s a whole other point) so clearly they knew about phineas. and isabella also wasn’t quiet about it (source: pnf s1-4). they had like four years of high school to do something and they planned it the day isa left for college? nah its just the least realistic thing ever for me. also them being 18 is like yeah okay maybe the slow burn was worth it and theyre way more grown up (i love a good slowburn) but ohhhhhh my god SURELY their friends were getting sick of them dancing around each other. just me?

third. and I’m sorry to ash simpson but oh my god I hate the character designs like They Would Not Fucking Look Like That. it almost feels like it completely disregards their arcs during the original summer. like yeah child chub disappears over ur teen years but sometimes it stays a little longer! make phineas less twiggy!! make isa look more like her mother! (am i about to redesign them again? whoops)

four. and i know this is no fault of dan and swampy but the show was about to end anyways and yet the entire friend group was paired off into hetero ships?? get fucking real. none of those kids are straight. realistically, i know it was a different time and gay marriage wasnt even legal in the us yet so it wasnt all that common to have queer romance on screen let alone on disney channel but like i said, the show was about to end. what were the disney channel execs gonna do? cancel it? lmao

five. "I am so in the friend zone there." "we are guys. we do not talk about our feelings." WHAT!!! i cant believe this shit is real. these lines of dialogue are canon. what the hell. what kind of message does that even send to younger, impressionable viewers? if ur a 10 year old boy watching that (ok fine maybe that isnt gonna stick with you forever but listen) and you go 'oh its okay to just bottle everything up and not tell my friends about my feelings about anything ever' that is insane! thats not how things should go!! like i get the whole "im so in the friend zone" and yes, this also has to do with the era but like if they wanted to be a more progressive cartoon that kids look up to and enjoy maybe they just. shouldn't have put that whole conversation in.

i barely have any problems with the b plot. in fact id watch the episode just for the kazoo solo. because that plot lines up with the continuity. i can totally see heinz having bowling night with perry and carl and monogram every week! i can totally see perry and monogram retired! and carl running owca and getting payed for it! that all checks out! that one makes sense and works with the canon! if they got that plot so right how did they get the a plot so wrong?

i can answer this question: fanservice. its an awful word, i know. act your age is a fanservicey episode which is why i think it crashed and burned. mml season 2 is rooted in the same issue: doof is very present and takes away from the original plot of the show. like, the one he wasnt even in until the last episode of s1. slightly getting off topic but it is the crux of the issue. fanservice doesnt make for good storytelling. even if it brings in the big bucks. at its core, telling the story the way it should be told is the best one. even if it pisses people off. a good portion of the viewers will still appreciate whatever ending the creators come up with. and no, im not saying phinbella shouldn't have become canon, in fact i really like the ship and all their dynamics, i just think they went about it the wrong way.

as someone who's written and published fic about them getting together in different universes (granted, they were from when i was younger so its mildly terrible. take them with a grain of salt) there are a lot of other ways to tell that story canonically. honestly, i think the best way of doing it was to keep it ambiguous. dont tell that story. let the viewers pick their own ending for phineas and isabella. maybe they dont get together after all. who knows!

VALENTINES DAY

v for valentine-detta (AMAZING episode so funny and the introduction of nat who is iconic!!! also adorable subplot w/ bob and gene. not even really about romance)

can't buy me math (SOOO FUNNY tina and darryl have the best dynamic their fake dating was so stupid. don't even remember what bob and linda did in this episode tbh but im sure it was cute)

bob actually (super cute episode!!! jimmy jr and tina are so nerdy/adorable and i love rudy and louise's kiss. bob and linda were cute too <3 don't really care abt gene's subplot with the cafeteria lady but its not bad or anything and i prefer it to him having an actual romance subplot)

my fuzzy valentine (i actually forgot this episode existed bcuz i don't rewatch early seasons very often but its cute!!!! it has the kids wearing raincoats and jumping in puddles so it automatically gets an A+ from me)

the gene and courtney show (I FORGOT THIS WAS A VALENTINES DAY EPISODE LMAO its actually very sweet and genuine?? i think gene and courtney work better as friends but their relationship was very cute and gene's song for courtney was an actual 10/10. your hearts not broken its only growing 😭😭💕)

romancing the beef (this episode is okay!!! fun to rewatch and i love gene and louise's hijinks when serving the customers and their slow dance song Also the origin of the iconic arm hair line from linda and teddy. this is also the lastest appearance of hugo when will he return home from the war <\3)

ferry on my wayward bob and linda (a late addition because for some reason this episode isnt listed as a valentines day episode on the wiki??? idk i enjoyed bob and linda they were cute :) and i loved jen's stupid boyfriend and his stupid voice that subplot was. soo)

bed, bob and beyond (this episode being last makes it seem like i don't like it very much BUT ACTUALLY I THINK ITS A SUPER INTERESTING EPISODE I DONT REALLY GET THE HATE bob and linda having an actual argument is something we rarely see and it was interesting to see how the kids responded to it and also everything with the broken bed makes me laugh for some reason. we love dirty laundry and broken beds in this household)

HALLOWEEN EPISODES

the apple gore-chard but not scary (no real reason this episode is my favorite i just dont care abt most of the halloween episodes and this episode is VERY silly and fun. loved bob and louise going on a field trip together and gene/tina/louise's absolutely ridiculous costume like What is their problem)

the pumpkinening (a gayle episode where she's actually pretty okay and not the antagonist wow?? also i love having a peak into her and linda's high school years and their pumpkin smashing. very fun episode honestly my favorite to rewatch ALSO GAYLE AND LINDA SAY I LOVE YOU TO EACH OTHER AND GAYLE SAYS OF COURSE SHE CARES ABOUT LINDA AND WANTS HER TO BE HAPPY THEYRE SISTERS <33)

tina and the real ghost (FULLY unhinged episode but very funny i love louise lying about the ghost and tina's extremely fake ghost boyfriend. bob immediately knowing that louise was lying bcuz she is her Fathers Daughter. also jimmy jr and zeke were great in this episode love their philosophical debate about life after death)

the hauntening (GREAT episode i love the family working together to scare louise!!! truly a worthy successor to what an (april) fool believes but everytime i rewatch it all i can think about is how louise has been obviously scared SO MANY TIMES in episodes before this so her saying she's never been scared before is just straight up lying. like she faced Death she had a gun to her head cmon now.... but also it kinda makes sense that a nine year old would lie about that it feels very in character. cute episode)

heartbreak hotel-oween (this is such a weird episode i feel like everybody forgets it exists?? teddy linda and bob's subplot is a little gross but the story about the woman and her dead boyfriend who she tries to summon every halloween like GIRL WHAT???? idk its such a weird sad pathetic episode im kind of obsessed with it. how did they even come up w/ that one and why was it a 70s halloween party. many questions)

teen-a-witch (WE GOT MR AMBROSE IN THIS EPISODE HELL YEAH‼️‼️ other than that not very memorable but louise and gene's relationship w/ tina in this episode was very sweet they're great siblings But also they did use her magic to cheat on their homework and get free tater tots at school.....)

nightmare on ocean avenue street (not a bad episode i just forget it exists sometimes LOL but teddy's extremely gay subplot with the handyman was hilarious and the kids were cute too. easy episode to rewatch around halloween without it being too freaky)

the wolf of wharf street (THIS EPISODE IS SO??? love teddy's sexy nurse costume and kinda's cher costume?? gene is my favorite fruity boy. there are some good jokes but otherwise not an episode i think abt too often)

full bars (gun to my head i couldnt tell you a SINGLE thing about this episode i haven't ever rewatched it so it feels almost unfair putting it on this list bcuz i don't remember much?? they went to king's head island and bob accidentally killed teddy's pet rodent or smth. probably not a bad episode and i believe this was the first introduction of king's head island which eventually gave us sasha and ducan so of course i can't hate it)

pig trouble in little tina (this episode is so WEIRD like not bad and i think the hayride is kinda cute but the dead pig corpse.... god that fucking corpse haunts me)

fort night (dont like millie in this episode AT ALL and don't like how they almost die and nobody gives a fuck. don't like bob and linda in this episode who don't care that their kids never came home for their costume and get passive aggressive about it when they were KIDNAPPED???? don't like millie in general and this was her first appearance. but i think their box fort was pretty cute and i would like to see it again, plus all the neighborhood kids hanging out together was fun)

MOTHERS DAY EPISODES

amelia (IT TECHNICALLY COUNTS OKAY IT WAS AIRED AS A MOTHERS DAY EPISODE anyway maybe one of my favorite episodes of the entire series so heartfelt and beautiful. louise's presentation + exploration of cultural misogyny + the ending song make this episode an absolute killer and an amazing season finale)

sauce side story (it was a tough call between this and mo mommy mo problems but i LOVED learning more about linda's family history and gayle was so great in this episode. still obsessed with gayle pretending to be their mom its so funny this episode is so good)

mo mommy mo problems (cute episode!!! for some reason i really appreciate the detail of the snack bar inside the ferry in this episode and the seating area bcuz i have taken MANY many ferries and boats in my life and i rarely see that aspect of island culture represented in media?? very unhinged ending with the squirrel blood SHE PEELS THEM LIKE FRUIT ROLL UPS but overall a sweet episode every character is so likeable and fun!!!! also just a hilarious episode tbh)

mom, lies and videotape (fun episode!! not really too much to say about it bcuz it was another three stories type episode but the kids were very cute and i loved gene's REAL performance where he was out of synch for literally every line of that song. god bless America. also louise's fictional play was very fun you can tell how much they all love and respect linda <3)

tell me dumb good thing (not a bad episode but the main storyline was pretty boring so i dont think about it too often. LOVED bob's subplot with the fucking internet cucumber however this might be one of my favorite subplots in the entire show they gave him such a big win. he loved that cucumber so much AND THE CUCUMBER GUY LET HIM INTO THE BASEMENT??? TEDDY TOO???? it makes me cry its so wholesome and sweet. also appreciate the clever way that they connect bob and linda's storylines in the end)

THANKSGIVING EPISODES

dawn of the peck (this episode is actually tied w/ stuck in the kitchen with you BUT i decided to put it in first place bcuz i think i maybe enjoy rewatching it like 0.5% more. every line of this episode is comedic gold like easily one of the funniest episode of the show if not the actual funniest it should have a higher rating than it does on IMDB. i dont care how high its rated it should be higher!!!! also rudy my beloved)

stuck in the kitchen with you (i dont expect this episode to be ANYBODY ELSES favorite but for me its such a wholesome and fun episode to rewatch and pretty funny too. bob and louise's relationship is great. the parade the kids throw with zeke's help is so funny. linda's subplot with sargent bosco is HILARIOUS and bob telling louise "i was being too much of a cook and not enough of a dad" is something i think he could stand to say more often in thanksgiving episodes. but also he's autistic and i understand)

i bob your pardon (very fun heist episode?? louise running out to protect the turkey from the ACTUAL WOLVES and bob saying that he'll save the next turkey from wolves gets me everytime. this episode is honestly just fun and silly its a great time)

turkey in a can (maybe this episode should be higher?? its SO FUNNY and also confirms bisexual bob is real. wholesome ending and i love that bob invited teddy and mort over for thanksgiving dinner along with gayle <3 they're his family)

thanks-hoarding (teddy focused episode :) loved finding out more about his family and relationship with them and learning a bit more about his mental interior and how he copes with stress and childhood trauma. very fun episode to rewatch)

putts-giving (ACTUALLY I REALLY ENJOYED THIS EPISODE louise and tina's relationship is always interesting to explore esp as tina grows older and matures/leaves her siblings behind. loved the mini golf setting and i would like to see it again someday but i think they got a lifetime ban.... from the mini golf course......)

an indecent thanksgiving proposal (absolutely unhinged episode?? any episode w/ fischoeder is great and i love drunk bob mourning his turkey friend even if his jealousy of the kids and linda kinda makes me sad <\3 HE LOVES BEING LINDAS WIFE HE LOVES BEING THE KIDS DAD OKAY HE DOESNT WANT IT TO BE ANYBODY ELSE and linda saying at the end of the episode that she doesn't want to be anybody else's wife not even for pretend is very sweet)

gayle makin' bob sled (this episode is very interesting and i love gayle's relationship with bob in it. also linda and the kids trying to cook thanksgiving dinner without him is SO FUNNY like gene and louise especially oh my god. "maybe its a good thing if your family annoys you sometimes because.... it means you have one" 😭😭)

the quirk-ducers (this episode is CRAZY but also very funny. louise spraying dead animals guts and blood all over the play's audience was deeply unhinged as was them publically performing tina's erotic friend fiction as a play to their families and teachers. amazing song which im assuming gene wrote)

now we're not cooking with gas (bob was just SLIGHTLY too crazy in this episode and i feel bad that he couldn't cook his special turkey :( but the kids getting the giant log from the park and almost killing somebody always gets me like?? WE ALMOST DIED AND MAYBE KILLED OTHER PEOPLE BUT THATS NOT IMPORTANT WE GOT THE LOG bob needs more wins in thanksgiving episodes i think)

diarrhea of a poppy kid (this episode is really sweet tbh!!! louise and tina comforting gene when he's sick by telling him stories and him being holed up in the bathroom playing with makeup and writing a thanksgiving song which was of course very catchy. him and bob were also adorable in this episode and i love bob saying that he loves to cook for gene!!!! <3 they're both so supportive very cute episodes but the stories they tell are not very memoriable tbh)

CHRISTMAS EPISODES

the plight before christmas (this is such an obvious choice but it really is an amazing episode there's a reason its the highest rated episode of the show!!!! its so incredibly sweet and loving with really solid pacing and jokes throughout the episode and gene's musical ability saving the day without being turned into a joke. obviously tina and louise's relationship in this episode too. and i see my sister with something that looks like gingerbread on her glasses 😭😭💕 louise's poem GETS me every single time. also weirdly helpful birds eye view of seymour's bay at the end

father of the bob (INTRODUCTION OF BIG BOB!!!! honestly this episode is just very cute and interesting love analyzing the dynamic between bob and his dad.... it almost seems like big bob likes linda more than he likes bob. cute ending and i always like learning more abt bob's family so this episode is a 10/10 from me)

yachty or nice (THIS EPISODE WAS SOOO CUTE jimmy pesto and bob actually having a bonding moment and the kids subplot with teddy 😭😭💕💕💔 love that they call him their uncle father santa teddy and that he knew in the end they would do the right thing bcuz they're good kids so he saved a special toy for them. he loves those kids so much. jimmy pesto redemption arc could be real if we believe)

the bleakening (this episode was very fun!!! AMAZING songs and i really enjoyed the ending with the gay christmas party and everybody dancing together. some very funny jokes in there too and i just love the creepy vibes of the kids sneaking out of the house and tina being smart enough to bring the emergency phone along w/ them. genuinely a great two parter episode)

god rest ye merry gentle mannequins (THIS EPISODE IS SO???? still dont know what was going on with the crazy mannequin guy but i honestly think its sweet that lily's brother let him live there for free for so many years even when he didnt really need to. also i believe the first time bob's mom is mentioned in the series??? idk this episode is really fun and i love all the different holiday displays they do)

have yourself a maily linda christmas (nothing too interesting to say abt this episode its just silly and fun!!! linda episode!!!! also something about tina and bob trying to entertain the grandparents and keep the peace while everybody else is gone is SO funny theyre the worst at talking to people. the ending with louise gene and tina was adorable too)

nice-capades (honestly its been a minute since i rewatched this episode but from what i remember it was very sweet and silly. LOVE how many random adults were willing to drop everything to help these kids put on an ice shaking performance for santa. also louise being worried that she isn't a good person. gene giving rudy the last taco just because he Cares about him and wanted them to be happy. this episode was cute and they really are such good kids)

better off sled (I ALWAYS FORGET THIS WAS A CHRISTMAS EPISODE because the main plot doesn't have anything to do with christmas it feels like the die hard debate of bob's burgers holiday episodes.... either way bob and linda knitting scarves for the kids was cute and i liked the snowball fight subplot. very sweet and simple episode)

the last gingerbread house on the left (fun episode?? there are some funny jokes and i liked seeing linda and teddy go singing together w/ the kids while bob is tormented and experiences the horrors of gingerbread houses. lily mention!!! noticing that christmas episodes tend to be the episodes where bob's family gets brought up the most i wonder why that is???? absolutely unhinged gingerbread house competition btw but they should let felix join them :(

christmas in the car (i remember this episode being SO STRESSFUL like he tried to kill that family Good god. teddy was very funny in thjs episode and i did enjoy it otherwise)

Saw someone say they will drop bsd if stormbringer gets animated because they dont wanna see Dazai and Chuuya on their screen for the 10000000000th time.

First of all, yes, as much as I want people to know about sb to better understand Chuuya AND Dazai, I dont wanna see Bones screw the story up.

But like you dont wanna watch those two again? Like Dazai isnt on screen constantly??? He's been literally everywhere on the screen since day 1. You're watching the wrong damn show if you dont wanna see HIM of all people!

And Chuuya? Chuuya had 1 full scene across 2 episodes, and a split second shot in season 1. He had a total of about 30 minutes in season 2, he had 3 episodes about him in season 3 before being locked out of the story. He had a total of 10 minutes in the dead apple movie and had 1 scene in season 4. Ya'll act like he's been plastered all over the series instead of barely being seen for ages.

In real time people barely even get any Chuuya for long ass periods, you're just mad because people talk about him constantly. Its giving stupid.

Stormbringer is very important to the main story. It explains a bunch of shit that is important to the series. The concept of singularities finally gets explained properly, Dazai's motives get explained to an extent. One of the major future players Verlaine is introduced in the story, a player who along with 2 characters is connected to the Clocktower. Several of the characters from SB who are connected to Dazai are in London where Agatha is based and we know she will come into play soon. Dazai's whole dynamic with Chuuya is expounded upon which completely changes the way chapter 101 and how he functions is perceived.

The running joke that sb is an skk fanfic is just that, a joke. People are running around being silly and having fun with it. People dont just wanna see sb animated cause we'll get to see Chuuya but because its an important part of the series. And tbh even if people only wanna see sb on screen because it has Chuuya or because it has skk content so what? Why does someone else getting something they like bother you so much?

S5E9 & S5E10 thoughts

Well, I liked it!

The biggest loser here is Episode 9 because all my thoughts are so occupied by the finale that I can't say much about the previous episode which wasn't even bad. So just three quick things:

Finally I get some good fucking food (The Guide content).

"I'm… going…to kill you… Guillermo" gave me CHILLS.

Now, to Episode 10:

Didn't notice the previous episode how feral Nandor was filmed, his face all darkened except for a beam of light on his furious eyes, good and classic vampire shit!

Wow, Guillermo treating Derek bad after all he did for him really make the point across that he's a shitty person.

There's something so 😙👌 about Nandor going back to Panera, always love a full circle moment.

I don't care about Patton Oswald as a comedian or person due some disgusting shit he pulled years ago, so sadly I couldn't enjoy his scenes with Nandor that much. I loved that after the whole conversation he still killed him tho. I read someone in the tags paralleling this scene to Guillermo and Meg in S3E2, and I fully agree with that interpretation.

Laszlo helping Guillermo and apologizing…😭 He loves him! I would love to see more of how Laszlo feels about his "frustrations" (his innability to help Guillermo, the impotency of seeing Colin grow up and not remember him). That's something that should be explored better next season imo.

Him trying to have a serious conversation but keep getting distracted by the porn is me trying to watch this show as a dumb comedy but getting distracted by the nandermo of it all.

All the vampires visiting him with dumb excuses was so cute. I wish I never see those creatures ever again tho.

Ahhhh Nandor calling Guillermo from his mother in law mom's house was some psycho shit. Also it remind me a bit of Buffy the Vampire Slayer when Spike visits Buffy's mom just to taunt her. Imagine Nandor pulling this shit:

The Djinn… oof… as someone who was begging for his appearance since the beginning of the season, this stunt left me cold… sorry but everything that starts with "it happened off screen" it's bad writing. It's giving "Daenerys kind of forgot…" level of bad.

Didn't like that suddenly Nandor is smarter than the others (specially if we come from an episode when Laszlo called him 'a fuckin idiot' for not getting the Guide reveal).

I…. don't trust that "Guillermo is not cut to be a vampire" stuff… sounds like retcon… BUT! I love the "Guillermo is not cut to be a vampire YET, specially if he isnt sired by Nandor" interpretation.

From the beginning I had this hunch that Guillermo's longing for a family and community (I'm not saying he dislikes his bio family, but obviously he grow up distant from them, probably for being queer and feeling like "an outsider") was a reason for being so desperate to become a vampire. Now that he has the family (bio AND chosen) and the community, it's his time to think if he STILL wants to be vampire or not (and he said at the fake ceremony that he still wants it ���).

Now that the season is finished I came to realize Nadja's entire arc AGAIN was a big 'ol nothing, huh? The hex, her Antipaxos found family, the little stunt as a teacher, literal "throw at the wall and see what it sticks". I'm sorry but I'll repeat: WWDITS learn how to write women challenge.

Excited to see how Guillermo and Nandor's relationship will develop from now on, I know some people are frustrated but as someone who is used to slow burns being SLOW this is my shit. I joke a lot about the pairing but also I understand that this is the shit&farts show first, nandermo nation second (unlike some people that appears they only consume and rate media depending on how much kissy kissy is on the screen).

From 1 to 10, I'll give this season a 7. Not that good as my god tier seasons (S2 is a 9, S3 is a 10), but not so bad as S4.

What I want next season:

Guillermo NEEDS to be a Bad Bitch again: slaying vampires like the Van Helsing he is, being gay af, not being scared to sass out Nandor, etc.

Laszlo and Colin NEED to have a real talk.

Consistency.

Two mini reviews, partly brought to you by tumblr autosaving - Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas. I wasn't sure what to expect; I really liked The Sunbearer Trials (Ive not yet read the sequel), and DNF'd Lost In The Never Woods because it was the wrong type and intensity of dark and spooky for me at the time. Cemetery Boys is a freaking delight. Maybe my least favourite part was the villain reveal, it made sense but either it wasnt foreshadowed enough or I just wanted better for that character? idk. But this isnt primarily a plot book, its a romance, and its a story about community and acceptance, and figuring out how you fit into the world when you're not the shape you're expected to be. And it did really well with both those aspects. I also appreciate that with so many stories, real and fictional, about people who have to leave their communities to find themselves, I appreciate a story of someone who never once thinks maybe I need to leave, and instead forges on to create space for himself in his community and his heritage. That's not everyone's story and thats totally fine. Our experiences are diverse and we deserve diverse stories. Its all good. As for the romance, its really believable. Its quite an opposites-attract situation, from Julian's aggressive queerness and non-issue with Yadriel's transness making his albeit and unexpected presence a breath of fresh air to Yadriel, to their growing understanding of each other's lives and admiration for the strength of each others convictions. (When Julian is upset about his friends and Yadriel nevertheless pauses to set that boundary about ghost-safety, that was hot.). And the ghost aspect! (this is not a mini review anymore lol). I was not really sure how that was going to go, and then cheering for them, and then wondering what the heck they were gonna do about ongoing ghost-itude and the finiteness of that situation, and actually I really liked how it went. The romance and how they push each other and grow to understand each other is fun, romantic, sexy, heartfelt. Remarkably sexy given that one of them is a ghost who cant be touched. (Spoilers for a sec - the scene on the car where Yadriel reaches for Julian's jacket to pull him closer and there's nothing there to grab? Oh that feels like grief.) The book is quite a bit about grief. Missing parents, missing support networks, missing opportunities to be yourself and be accepted. Its about a guy who can communicate with ghosts and its set around Dia de Meurtos, there's grief themes.

I also really love Maritza, showing off another aspect of (gender) non-conformity, that its not only trans people who have trouble fitting fairly strict defined roles. (Julian's friends do so similarly). Almost all the Spanish I picked up from context, but how Julian refers to Yadriel at the end I knew I had to look up that word specifically and oh my heart. Overall really enjoyed. probably 9/10 second, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. I havent read the books/comics, I have seen the movie. This show....for at least the first half I had no idea what the rules of the universe were or what exactly was going on or what themes exactly were being explored. I was definitely entertained though. The last few episodes manage to make sense of the first few and deliver on those themes in ways I quite liked. I liked that Ramona is the "manic pixie dream girl" and then almost immediately gets upstaged for that role by Envy Addams. I normally am annoyed at stories in which some boring guy "gets" the manic pixie dream girl and certainly doesn't appreciate her - you know the kind who goes on reddit and complains that she wont stop talking about slugs or decorates their whole house in anime? And I know scott pilgrim is a comment on that trope. I like how its about scott but its not really about scott. Largely its about Ramona and her friends (and her exes). And the others recognise that scott isnt so great, or so smart, and also that if Ramona likes him thats cool. He can be a "lovable idiot" and shes not automatically making a mistake with him. If they're happy they're happy. (and of course the ways that *could* go wrong, but arent destined to). Plus the music is fun, the visuals are bright and pretty. It might lean overstimulating for some people, I had to stop and think about my spoon levels between episodes. Thats what I got for today. Two very different fun stories I recommend like 8-9/10, not perfect but a damn good ride.

So right off the bat I played TLOU with my partner very soon after it came out, and then again.....and again......(and again) a few more times so I thought I was ready for this. I was ready for grissly asshole bill needing to go find Frank because he's only gone and got himself in some shit and yeah joel and ellie come along I know where a battery is but oh no Frank got bit?! and have a cry but did we get that? No. Do i wish we did? Absolutely not.

But i am kinda bummed we didnt get pedro pascal caught upside down shooting at zombies because of Frank's trap....thats one of my all time favourite scenes

The whole set up to Bill and who he is, is done so well and with comedy too. It's meant to be ridiculous in a way that someone like bill, a prepper and lets be real we all know one, who 9/10 is called crazy is now the smart one and we see him living his best solo life in his mini town

Cecil is the protagonist and narrator of Welcome To Night Vale, a surreal horror podcast (perhaps THE surreal horror podcast that kickstarted the trend you see those days like tma and stuff). (go listen to the Pilot, though huge warning for unreality stuff if that's a problem with you)

The show is set up to be a radio show set in Night Vale, a city where weird things happen all the time except that for the narrator, all of this is normal. Yeah of course a 5 headed dragon is running for mayor against the faceless woman who secretly lives in your house. Of course no one is supposed to go to the Dog Park. Of course everyone must give their offering to the Mighty Glow Cloud. Of course there's a ghost cat in the bathroom floating and having kittens, isn't she adorable.

One of the extremely refreshing thing about this podcast, especially in 2013, where tumblr was mostly obsessed with queerbaiting shows, is the fact that in the very first episode, Cecil meets Carlos the scientist, and immediately falls in love with him. Meaning there's a lot of episodes going "the eldritch monster camping on the highway once again committed some new incidents and people died. but that's not important. DID YOU SEE CARLOS'S HAIR? ISNT HE DREAMY?" (and they went on dates and eventually got married).

And the thing with Cecil, outside from his dreamy voice, his gay crush, and the beautiful existential sentences he could spur sometimes (“The past is gone, and cannot harm you anymore. And while the future is fast coming for you, it always flinches first and settles in as the gentle present” is one of my fav quotes), is that he was just a voice. There never was a single canon design about him.

So everyone could make their own Cecil. Everyone had their own version of him in mind, though we all somehow agreed on him wearing Night Vale's purple, and you would often see tattoos of eyes and tentacles on him (or that pushed with literally showing them off outside of his skin).

in the early 2010s on this website you couldn't go ANYWHERE without knowing about Cecil. Everyone was talking about him. Anyone who has been on this website for about ten years would talk to you fondly about their friend Cecil Palmer from the radio show.

We're discussing Tumblr sexymen. if you think tumblr sexymen just means a man tumblr finds sexy (even though it's weird), you're dead wrong. And Cecil had earned his place because HE was THE Blorbo.

On another note for you to understand exactly what it means on tumblr, you heard of Dashcon? Everyone's heard of Dashcon. Many people weren't here when Dashcon happened. I was here. One of the scam the people of Dashcon ran in order to get people from tumblr to come was to invite the wtnv's cast. However, last minute, they didn't pay them, and the condition of hosting were deplorable (the nearby hotel was stacked, and the organizator of the con didn't even pay the con's site at all, which means they locked all the teenagers who had came into the lobby to ask them to pay for the fees of the con's rent. Do you even realize how insane that is). So the wtnv crew didn't come.

But it was literally THE thing that represented tumblr enough that it ended up wrapped in this horrible scam. It was the moment. The thing that truly defined the early 10s on this website.

Of course you might think he's not a proper sexyman for tumblr (tbh i think Sans and the Once-ler are the real sexymen of this website) but Cecil has been the embodiment of the early 10s culture of this website. ok, tng update before bed because Holy Fuck. earlier tonight i did "symbiosis" and then we did "skin of evil" together

symbiosis: the premise of this was kind of interesting actually. one angle i wish they'd gone into was if picard DOES tell the ornarans that the "medicine" is really just drugs then the brekkians have no means to survive on their own and they will die. would they deserve it? almost definitely, but it still goes against the prime directive. so picard giving them ample warning - by letting them know that soon the freighters will be unreparable and the ornarans will figure out the game on their own - at least gives them time to start learning to farm or whatever so they can survive without the ornarans's help. he actually saved both planets, however undeserving, with his solution. only they didn't even go into that side of it. AND ALSO literally not even one person was happy with it which was kind of hilarious

HOWEVER. once we veered into wesley and tashas Very Special Episode About Drugs moments i did start scream laughing. truly hysterical. thank you tasha for explaining narcotic abuse to me <3 i didn't know how any of it worked <3

i did actually like dr crusher in this episode. well, no, i had mixed feelings. absolutely she was right to be disgusted and reviled by what the brekkians were doing. absolutely it was in character for her, a doctor, to strongly morally object to anything that leaves exploited people in pain when she can do something about it. bones would have objected if picard was doing it. but somehow it STILL felt like an "emotional woman" thing. obviously it's very subjective. and i do REALLY love that she got to have an opinion about something that wasn't being a woman, a widow, or a mother. but something about the execution left me wanting a LITTLE bit more.

none of this was helped by picard mansplaining the prime directive to her in the elevator btw. like i could have almost given it a pass if not for that last scene. i know what he's really doing is explaining it to us the audience but come onnnnn. i feel this show really needs a spock and the spock needs to be a girl. someone to be ruthless with logic to offset the emotional woman dr crusher and the emotional woman deanna (it is quite literally in her job description i know this and i love her but we need some variety here).

ok. i did love the little slime man. i loved how evil he was and i loved deanna being able to just talk him to death essentially. i really liked deanna that one time she stormed out of the room but she's hardly ever given anything to do except emote/state the obvious (deanna about a transparently shady guy: "i feel much deception, captain!") and i really am genuinely happy when she gets stuff to do bc i am a deanna enjoyer.

I feel like these past four episodes, vegaspete absolutely stole the scene?? I know they're supposed to be a side couple but god GODDDDD, they were AMAZING, their story is so captivating and layered and!!!!!!! I also feel like BibleBuild just???????????? Killed it. Everything, to their body language, chemistry, micro expressions, voices... Idk if it's me just being insane about them or if anyone else agrees but I'd definitely watch a whole series solely about them 😭😭😭😭 (love kp and mileapo were amazing as well but I can't help it)

see vegaspete really do remind me of teamwin. they both just give off the same kinda energy to me (no wonder they both are my fave fave fave tv show couples).

like yeah some people will say its SCS (second/side couple syndrome) and all that comes with it - the ambiguity, the way you can produce more meta for them bc there's space and room and freedom to do so outside of what's canon/on the show.

and i get that. but for me, for both teamwin and vegaspete, its just ... its more than that.

there's some Real Trauma Unpacking with both couples. from very early on in the show, you could See there's chemistry and spice and trauma and a heaviness there. and then the show decides to not give you them for a while. and then as the audience, you're left wondering and waiting and Yearning for them to kick in again.

and that was the case. yes. but with both teamwin and vegaspete, i was never ever ever ever worried about time running out or it feeling too rushed. which has been the case sooooo many times with other side/second couples. no. with them, everything kicked towards the back end of the show, which made it so intense.

and, moreso for vegaspete than teamwin, since this ask is about vegaspete, it worked. it HAD to be that way.

vegaspete HAD to be shown at the end. bc otherwise it wouldnt have hit as intensely as it was supposed to had it been drawn out across the whole show from the start. from ep 10 to ep 14, the pacing of vegaspete was so measured and yet so quick and fast but also given time and space to grow and fester and breathe. and it took you from one high to another and then it KICKED YOU TO THE GROUND and then took you high again.

of course, acting and chemistry play a huuuuuuge part in it, and biblebuild GOT it. absolutely every element of it. what also helps is the aesthetics and cinematography with them too. the reds, blues, greens, purples, yellows, black and white outfits, religious imagery etc.

it does also help in the fact that vegaspete are so Obviously Fucked Up and its not even denied or hidden. so they could REALLY go places and go as far as they wanted to with them, bc it was made clear from the start that they are fucked up!!! thats their nature!!!! its just a matter of seeing HOW fucked up they are, and we totally got to see that.

another thing is how BOTH characters got their own focus as indiviuals. you got a backstory with both. we could get our hands super dirty by being given the chance to dig and dig and dig and SEE who both these characters and what their psyche are, when you take away the meat and flesh, and strip them down to their skeleton. and you saw them BOTH go through it individually, whilst being apart from one another, which makes their coming together even more sweeter.

and in the end, you get to see them get what they deserve. it isnt sugar coated or glossed over. no they had it UGLY. you feel the catharsis of pete beating vegas up bloody and of vegas breaking down in pete's arms as pete talks him out of comitting suicide and pete's RAGE at killing anyone who hurts vegas and vegas being absolutely stripped naked and bare with nothing left to show for who he was previously. and you feel the elation of seeing them choose one another when they are their most honest selves and versions, devote to one another despite EVERYTHING, and see them get a chance to have their shot at happiness with macau. their is a resolution that leaves you satisfied based on everything theyve been through to get to this point here. and it feels DESERVED. rightfully deserved.

Sooooo… miraculous tales of ladybug and cat noir got its season 5 finale 👏…. I have so SO SO many problems with it. Honestly it was one of the worst things I have ever watched.

1. Starting from the beginning of conformation. Adrien and Kagami are still stuck. Dearest GABY decides to initiate his spooky secret plan that he has been apparently cooking up. This plan is a big problem because the only thing that the viewers knew about this plan was about making Adrien and Kagami a couple. So, this is OUT OF NOWHERE.

2. Ok, dreams. Cool, nice, awesome. THAT COME OUT OF NOWHERE!!!!!!!!! Another problem with the dreams is that Adrien dreams of Chat Blanc which he should NOT KNOW OF. Those timelines were destroyed by ladybug??? Without Adrien knowing either!

3. Adrien did not even try to escape…. Plagg suggested ways and nothing… He just gave the ring back. Which was just an excuse for him not to be in the big fight.

Time for Marinette’s POV. She wakes up and runs to go “save” Adrien. Great. Weird but great. Things happen and she becomes Ladybug to find Natalie because “Adrien said she was always nice to him” Natalie is about to freaking die and attempts to kill gabby to free Adrien. Thank you queen. But it fails like always because gabby is scum. Marinette is conveniently in Natalie’s room and watches as gabby de-transforms.

4. HOW CONVENIENT! Anyway it doesn’t matter because this show is built on conveniences. She now knows HM is gabby. SHE SHOULD TELL SOMEBODY!?!?!? RUN MAYBE AND TELL THE WORLD?!?!?!? THEY STILL BELIEVE YOU AT THIS POINT.

She is trapped in the Agreste mansion. Gabby’s plan is in full swing. She de-transforms and Plagg finds her and gives her the ring but then OH NO HM finds her and now knows Marinette is Ladybug.

5. GABBY YOU HAVE THE POWERS OF ALMOST EVERY SINGLE MIRACULOUS! STING HER YOU CAN GRAB HER ARM DO IT NOWWWW

I’m going to be real I seriously thought before the finale that Tikki and Plagg couldn’t be unified because that was how the wish was granted… and I thought that because… THAT IS WHAT THEY SHOW IN THE EPISODE DEFLAGRATION WHY WOULDN’T GABBY SUMMON GIMMI INSTEAD OF TRYING TO UNIFY TIKKI AND PLAGG!?!?!???!?! I know why… BECAUSE THAT IS HOW IT WAS BEFORE!!!!!! WHY THE HELL WOULD MASTER FU NOT JUST GIVE MARINETTE BOTH TIKKI AND PLAGG IF SHE CAN JUST USE BOTH HERSELF!?!?

10. As sick as hell the character designs for the ethereals but IT MAKES NO SENSE. THIS PLOT-LINE HAS NEVER BEEN BROUGHT UP THIS WAS MADE UP ON THE SPOT BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO MAKE MARINETTE BECOME GOD.

Is this a new reality where Emilie never died and Adrien had both parents? Seems unlikely because the news anchor is telling us the statue for Gabby is being made because he stopped HM which wouldn’t be HM if Gabby had Emilie.

This is most likely a reality where Gabby wished for Natalie to be better and the Emilie we see it actually Amilie. Good, cool, awesome, I’m ok with that, sort of.

So, what was the deal with Adrien, Kagami, and Felix being Senti-monsters thing. That went absolutely nowhere in the season finale. Argos is simply allowed to be a part of the team now… okay… Everything that they have been building up really crashed into the ground. I mean that season’s Ladybug and Chat Noire we’re becoming more like team mates than Ladybug being the leader. But now Adrien doesn’t even get to know anything? Even though this is his whole life we’re talking about? Adrien gets to know nothing and Marinette is god. I was so excited for Adrien to finally see what his father is but no…

In conclusion, this finale was 3/10 would watch again. I might add more later but I doubt my brain can handle any more of this crap. 🦂
