Books I read in 2023
This is a bit late, but I wanted to post about the books I read last year, partly because it's fun and partly because I think it'll motivate me to read more in 2024. I'm excluding books I read for classes unless there's something I have to say about them, and I'm also excluding one nonfiction, political book I read at the start of the year, because I don't remember it well enough to share my opinions accurately.
Fiction
The Ministry for the Future (2020) by Kim Stanley Robinson
A pretty good book; it's about various groups working in the near future to fight climate change, some of which resort to extralegal tactics. It presents a pretty bleak future with a high level of impact from climate change; I thought it was good, but if you're the type of person who catastrophizes about climate change it may not be the best book for you. There's a lot of procedural stuff and description of how organizations work, too — it's not just describing suffering. This book has a moderately anti-capitalist message.
Invisible Man (1952) by Ralph Ellison
Reading this book is an interesting experience; Ellison's writing style is often quite surreal and reading can feel like walking through thick grass. If you don't like that, you may not want to read this book. It's about an African-American man who moves from the South to New York in the 20th century (pre-Civil Rights Movement), and his experiences along the way. There are strong political messages here, although they're less obvious 70 years on. Black nationalism/separatism are discussed and critiqued, and the main character ultimately ends up isolated from society.
The Truth (2000) by Terry Pratchett
This is a fantasy novel about the first newspaper in a society. It's pretty great — one of the best of the Discworld books I read this year. It's got a pro-journalism message.
Going Postal (2004) and Making Money (2007) by Terry Pratchett
These two Discworld novels, in a medieval fantasy setting, are both about Moist von Lipwig, a clever criminal who's spared from execution by the city's mostly-benevolent tyrant and forced to become a civil servant instead. He reopens the postal system and invents fiat currency (in this way we get a look at the institutions of our own civilization), becoming more ethical and exposing corruption along the way. Both books are good, but I think Going Postal is a little better.
Huda F Are You? (2021) and Huda F Cares? (2023) by Huda Fahmy
These are a pair of semiautobiographical graphic novels about a Muslim teenager growing up in Michigan. Huda F Are You? focuses on the protagonist's struggle to define her identity and make friends in middle school; it was emotionally engaging and quite relatable. I wish I had been able to read it when I was in middle school! Huda F Cares? focuses on the protagonist's relationship with her siblings and her struggle to practice her religion, despite prejudice from society and her friends' at times differing values. I found it slightly less compelling than Huda F Are You?, but still definitely a book worth reading! Perhaps that's because I'm an irreligious only child.
Klara and the Sun (2021) by Kazuo Ishiguro
This book is definitely science fiction, but it has a much more personal and melancholy tone than most sci-fi books. It's told through the perspective of an unusually perceptive and empathetic robot who worships the Sun, in a world where... well, it would be spoilers to talk about how different the world is! Let's just say that the book explores loneliness, intelligence and its relationship to society, and the possible effects of technological progress. I've heard that this book is supposed to deal with AI, but I found its message to be pretty far from the concerns raised by recent advances in large language models (LLMs) and image generation. I'd say that social media (vis-a-vis a decline in real-world socialization) and pre-LLM automation relate to the book's world more than today's AIs. Klara and the Sun is also very well-written.
Nonfiction
Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain (2007) by Oliver Sacks
A fascinating exploration of the psychological and neurological aspects of humanity's affinity for music, this book strings together a series of anecdotes from the author's time practicing medicine about how music affects the brain, especially among people with rare brain disorders. There are some truly fascinating — and surprising! — cases discussed. These are interspersed with explanations of what we know, and don't know, about why music has such an effect on the human brain. Overall, this book was quite interesting, and I recommend it to anyone with even a passing interest in these sorts of topics.

Huda F. Are You? ~ Huda Fahmy
Huda F. Are You? ~ Huda Fahmy
Rating: 5/5 Funny and well written, Fahmy covers her high school identity crisis as she tries to pinpoint who she is. Fahmy based her whole personality around being muslim and wearing the hijab, so when she starts wondering who she is, she struggles through trying out different attitudes and behaviors to find one that feels like it works. On top of that, she’s going through other normal…

Protective (J.T x F!Reader) P.T2
Here you go @p4inis . The (not so) long awaited sequel to Protective. I didn't do any actual smut this time around but if anyone wants to see some send me a request!
WARNINGS: Sexual innuendos, allusions to smut, Jason Todd being the best boyfriend ever, Alcohol, Smoking, Cussin, SEXUAL HARRASMENT, Reader gets slapped on the ass, Misogny, R@pe culture, violence, jason punches a POS, Jason definitly has a daddy kink....
Tumblr media
"That's much better."
“Oh is it now?” He teases. Jason walks into the bathroom, sitting on the toilet lid. “Honestly I thought the first one was better.”
“Oh really?” you saw, pulling out your foundation, highlighter and concealer. You pull the beauty blender out of the drawer as well. Turning on the sink, you wet the beauty blender with lukewarm water.
“Oh absolutely babes.” Jason pulls out a lipstick and your eyeshadow pallet. “I say you go with a classic red lip tonight.”
“You want red lips too mister?” You say, taking the back of the beauty blender to apply the three pumps of foundation you put on the back of your hand. Blending it out you say “If not I'd put that lipstick back babes.”
“Why.” he says, looking at the packaging of the tube, trying to see if there is some sort of marking that says he would get red lips too. During this time you open your concealer and use the wand to apply the product.
“That lipstick transfers like a motherfucker. Get the liquid lipstick in there. The Huda Beauty one.” you blend the concealer out with the tip of the sponge, making sure to get under your eyes as well.
“This ones the one I bought you for our anniversary right?” he asks. Pulling out the tube from the drawer, he places it on the counter.
“Yeah. The one you claimed was, and I quote, ‘way too damn expensive’.” Placing the cap back on the contour stick you take the other side of the beauty blender to blend the product out. “Can you get me my setting powder and brush?”
“Yeah.” Jason reaches into the drawer once more, this time returning with the products you asked for. “God that fucking lipstick was way to damn expensive though.” he places hte items next to the lipstick.
“Yeah 20 fucking dollars was way to damn much for someting i barely ever have the occasion to wear.” you pick up the setting powder and grab the powder puff inside, baking below your eyes, between your eyebrows, over your nose, on your chin and in the center of your forehead. “I’m honestly surprised you bought it for me in the first place. I was joking about needing it.”
“Shit, really?” he laughs
“Yeah. I wasn't even really expecting you to even remember I said something about it.”
“I'm honestly so hurt that you think I don't remember stuff like that.” Jason places a hand over his heart, pretending as if he was shot in the chest. “I literally read and annotate books for you.”
“True.”You grab the pallet out of Jason's lap and grab two brushes out of the drawer. “But it was so menial and we were watching tv.” You open the eyeshadow and grab the fluffy brush and get some of a light brown on it, blending it out all over your eye.
“I have entire notes on my phone filled with things you say you like or want.”
“Really?” You ask, now grabbing a darker brown to blend into your outer corner.
“Oh yeah. I'm constantly adding shit to them. Like the Baby Yoda Squishmallow we saw at Costco last week.” he says. He remembers how your eyes lit up when you saw the massive plushie. The way you would stare at it every time you passed by once or twice trying to subtly touch the plush.
“Oh my fucking god, I didnt even say anything about that though! How do you know about that?” lastly you take a small brush with some black eyeshadow and place it directly on your waterline, lashline and in a general wing shape, before blending it out.
“I can read you like a book my love.” Jason look s at you with admiration. Watching as you pull your eyeliner out of the drawer and draw near perfect wings on your eyes. “And god help me if you aren't my most favorite thing i've ever read.”
“You are just the sweetest Jason Todd.” You look over at him. He's sitting there staring at you, watching you with all the admiration in the world. “God I love you Jase.” You say as you lean in to kiss him on the lips.
“I love you too, princess.” he says. Turning away from him with a smile, you grab the lipstick, applying a layer of the red liquid to your lips. “You look so kissable right now. God, I love your lips.” you look over at him and give him a slight smile.
“And I love the taste that comes out of both sets.” he says with a smirk.
“Jason!” you turn around blushing. You grab your eyebrow pencil and begin filling in the shapes. “What did I say? If you keep it in your pants all night i'll let you do whatever you want with me when we get home.”
“Don't have to tell me twice.” he stands up. “Imma go start the car and get a blunt rolled. I left the jacket on your bed.”
“Okay i'll be down in just a minute.” you respond. You grab your eyelash curler and make a few quick passes on both eyes, before grabbing the mascara and applying two coats.
You throw everything back into the drawer and grab your lipstick and the necklace you left on the counter. Walking into your closet, you grab a pair of silver heels You had bought a couple of years back. Grabbing the jacket Jason left on your bed, you grab your keys, turn off the lights, and lock up the apartment.
The Galla is loud and boisterous. Dozens of people from Gotham are here, mostly upper class old white men and their families, but a decent amount of paparazzi and the Wayne Scholars.
“I forget how fucking annoying these things are.” Jason complains. He lightly pulls on his tie, loosening it slightly to alleviate some of the pressure.
“You also don't like a majority of people.” you respond.
The night had been fun so far. Once you had arrived at the party, Jason dropped the keys to one of Bruces’ Rolls Royces’ with the valet and ushered you inside, past the blinding flashing lights of the cameras.
When you both finally made it inside you had quickly done the obligatory meet and greet with at least 15 people and quickly shuffled off towards the bar. There Jason had gotten himself a Whiskey on the rocks and you a tequila Martini.
Now, both of you hid in the northern corner of the room, at a small table nursing your drinks. “You don’t care for most people either sweetheart.”
“True, but I'm better at hiding it than you.” you take the last sip of your martini and stand from your chair. “I'm gonna go get myself a margarita. I'll be right back, baby.” You leave a small peck on his cheek before making your way over to the bar.
“What can I get for you Mrs. Todd?” Alex joked. You had known Alex for years, having gone to highschool with him and even having scored the leading parts in your school's play during your guys’ senior year.
“A strawberry margarita please Alex.” you smile at him.
“Coming right up babes.” Alex winks at you. His affection had never been anything more than friendly. Alex had come out to you as AroAce in your sophomore year.
You had allowed yourself to get lost in memories of the past before a voice cut your train of thought short.
“Hey pretty lady. Are you here alone?” The voice was gravely and hoarse, tainted with decades of life.
“No actually. I'm here with my boyfriend.” You respond. You shift in your seat, trying to put as much distance between you two as possible without being seen as rude.
“He couldn't take care of you like I could.” The man places his hand on your thigh, Slowly inching it upward. “I could take care of you in ways you could never imagine.”
“Here’s your margarita Mrs. Todd.” Alex says sliding the glass towards you, making direct eye contact with the old man next to you.
“Todd? You're here with Wayne's Son?” The man asks.
“Yeah, I thought it would be obvious with the leather jacket but I guess not.” You snark back. You stand up and turn around to walk back to Jason when you feel something small and sharp hit your ass.
“Fucking excuse me?” You look up to see Jason standing right behind you. “What the fuck do you think gives you the right to touch someone else like that huh?” Jason lightly pushes you to the side as to put him right in front of the grimey old man.
“She was asking for it wearing a dress like that.” Jason clenches his fists at the comment.
“I'm sorry, what now?” Jason asks. Jason starts to stand taller, shifting his weight and getting closer to the man now. The interaction quickly gained a crowd of paparazzi and Guests alike.
You softly grab Jason's right hand, holding it between yours and rubbing small patterns on back. “Baby leave him. He's just an ignorant old man. He-”
“He Fucking touched you, the ugly ass fossil deserves to be beat to a pulp.” Jason seethes. The man visibly grows angry at the disrespect.
“Who you calling old, brat?” The man now stands up, barley coming up to jason's nose.
“You. So step off or this will get ugly.” Jason warns, pulling you behind him, now holding your hands with his left. Jason puffs up bigger, trying to intimidate the man into fucking off.
“If she wants to dress like a prostitute then she will be treated like one. She deserves everything I did to her the Whor-” The man didn't even get a chance to finish his sentence before Jason punches him square in the nose. The punch breaks the geezer's nose as well as knocking him out cold.
“Come on baby. Let's get out of here.” you pull jason along, pulling him out the back of the venue, towards the parking lot the valets were using. “Let's go home please.”
“When we get outside, take your heels off and jump on my back.” Jason instructs.
“Yes, sir.” You respond. Jason lets a small ‘fuck’ out before just picking you up bridal style and kicking the door open. Jason proceeds to run towards the elevator spamming the button for the basement, where Bruce leaves some of his extra civilian cars.
“You're taking one of Bruce's?”
“It's faster than trying to track down the damn valet with my keys.” He responds. When Jason gets to the audi R8 he opens the passenger side door and sets you down gently before closing the door and running around towards the drivers side.
“Take me home, Jase.” You say when he starts the engine.
“Anything for my princess.”
When you finally arrive back at your apartment, Jason pushes you up against the wall in the entrance way.both hands on your waist “Did that bastard hurt you?”
“No sir. I'm okay.” You respond, Jason pulls his left hand from your hip and places it on your neck, applying a small amount of pressure.
“Stop fucking calling me that or ill ruin you here and now.” Jasons’ pupils are blown wide, his hands shaking slightly and the bulge in his pants grows more noticeable by the second.
“What, are you gonna punish me?” You tease. Jason tightens his grip on your throat. He shoves your legs apart with his knee and places it right up against your clit.
“I said dont fucking try me princess.” You giggle a bit before he speaks again. “Im not in the fucking mood so dont.”
“Or what? You gonna ruin me?” Jason pushes his knee up, pushing it harder against your pussy
“That can be arranged,” he whispers. His whole body is shaking at this point, the mix of the adrenaline and the pure lust he feels clouding his mind.
“Then ruin me daddy.”
Those four words spark something in Jason and before you know it, you're being thrown over his shoulder and tossed on your bed.
“Just remember princess, you asked for this.”

Penn has been embroiled in controversy this academic year stemming from concerns over antisemitism. Last month, a pro-Palestinian protest on campus devolved into intimidation of Jewish students, as speakers berated pro-Israel counter-protesters in the wake of Hamas’ Oct. 7 terrorist onslaught against Israel.
“The Israeli Jew has bastardized Judaism! Bastardized it! Trampled on it! How could you let this genocidal regime crap all over your God and your religion like this?” one speaker said at the protest, according to footage seen by The Algemeiner. “How can you, as a people who have seen the same amount of oppression in the past, stand by the same genocidal tactics, and lies, and methods that they use on our people? How could you stand for that? Look at you — you’re not even looking at this direction. You’re scared. You’re scared of being wrong.”
Addressing Jewish students who were standing nearby holding a counter-protest, the speaker continued. “Israelis! Hello, Israelis! Look at me! If I asked you to give me one justification, it would be a lie, misinformed, or consumed in post 9/11 dogma. Ask yourself, Israelis: Do you want to continue living in this false narrative, this fairy tale, or do you want to actually talk to the people? That [Israeli] flag has murdered.”
He concluded: “I hope you sh—t when you go on your bed tonight. I hope your dreams are filled with the horrors of dead Palestinian babies, burned Palestinian children, dead Palestinian women, a hundred square miles, leveled. I hope this scorches your brain. I hope you are terrified of this, because you should be.”
Professor Eve Troutt Powell, who teaches history of the modern Middle East at the university, accused Israel of not learning “the lessons of the Holocaust” shouting at the demonstration, “That was the lesson! Never again! This now is never again!”
Professor Huda Fakhreddine, who teaches Arabic literature, added, “Israel is the epitome of antisemitism … it desecrates the memory of the Holocaust victims. It humiliates every Jewish person.”
Days later, members of Alpha Epsilon Pi (AEPi), a traditionally Jewish fraternity, discovered graffiti saying “The Jews R Nazis” on the door of a property next to their house. The campus’ Division of Public Safety was investigating the vandalism as a potential hate crime.
Before the war in Gaza, the university came under fire in September for refusing to cancel or move a “Palestine Writes Literature Festival” held on campus. The event, which caused outrage and heightened tensions across campus, featured several activists who promoted conspiracies about Jewish power and called for violence against Israel.
One day before “Palestine Writes” took place, an unidentified male walked into the university’s Hillel building behind a staffer and shouted “F—k the Jews” and “Jesus Christ is king!” before overturning tables, podium stands, and chairs, according to students and school officials who spoke with The Algemeiner.

Simple desktop and mobile resources for the discerning muslim revert
Dropping the links I use to study Quran
The Noble Quran - contains 66 different languages (including transliteration). Also has good (short) summaries of many tafsir, surah/ayah/word recitation/pronunciation.
Legacy Quran - same as the first link, but only text. May be less demanding or easier to navigate on certain browsers.
Quranic Audio - same as the first link, but only audio. Has countless recitation options, from the Holy Quran itself to Taraweeh to non-Hafs recitations.
Quranic Arabic Corpus - invaluable classical arabic dictionary that let's you search by ayah, word, or root, and explains the grammar and syntax of each word, as well as frequency of usage.
Quran: A Reformist Translation - this is the translation I use to cross-reference everything I read from the other webbed sites. very well-researched, but also probably "blasphemous" by the standards of conservative Islam. considered to be of Quranist persuasion, the three authors both give a more metaphorical understanding of the Quran and debunk many common misconceptions about the Islamic faith from both inside and outside the religion. Unparalleled if you're a convert but the centuries-long debates of different Islamic schools has deterred you from exploring Gd's message.
The Prophet's Prayer - based on cross-referencing many different sunnah and hadith, the author seeks to give the most logical and accurate account to the guidelines of prayer as described on behalf of the Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him). Great source of clarity if you're unfamiliar with navigating supplementary texts.
English Quran Audio (Part 1) (Part 2) - Saheeh International translation; great to download and listen to in your free time. I let this play while I sleep so that I may drift off and wake up to Gd's word.
Al-Azan Prayer App - privacy-focused open source adhan and qibla app. Lots of good features with plenty of customization. Be sure to download the F-Droid app store onto your phone, then install Al-Azan from there, so that it will automatically update. (F-Droid also has other great privacy apps you should check out while you're there, including Youtube and Twitch front-ends).

Huda F Are You? by Huda Fahmy. Dial, 2021. 9780593324318. http://www.powells.com/book/-9780593324318?partnerid=34778&p_bt
This based-on-real-life bit of fiction follows Huda, a young Muslim woman who chooses to wear a hijab, as she navigates high school and the rest of her life. (Fahmy explains in the opening why she always draws Huda wearing her hijab, even in bed, and that this book isn't meant to represent all Muslims or their experiences.) This is a straightforward high school story with an identity crisis, worried parents, and unrequited crushes that takes place after Huda and her family relocate to a new city. She is not the only hijabi in her high school, but she does face some racism. She also has to deal with people's stereotyping her and other Muslim students. Huda's main problem is that she's not sure who she is (and that she is pretty good at faking interest in whatever anyone is talking about). Luckily she has some good friends around to help, and her family is pretty cool too.
I learned a bit from this book about halaqa (Huda's friend says it's like Bible study, but they talk about Islam and the Quran), wearing abayas, and the stuff Huda has to deal with. Mostly I'm in awe of Fahmy's writing and cartooning; she brought me right into Huda's life using simple layouts and a perfect balance of words and art. This book deserves a home in middle, high school, and public libraries whether or not they have massive graphic novel collections.

Back to School Pep Talk
Well fellow teachers and librarians, another school year is upon us. Some of you have already been back for a minute, some of you just started (today is day 3 for me) and some of you return next week. We have had an interesting number of years and this year, due to the teacher shortage, will bring its own new set of unique challenges. In addition, many of our colleagues have been placed in the difficult positions of choosing their curriculums, their books, their very words carefully due to the rage from extremist forces who truly do not understand what we do and the positive influence we have on our students. Many have already left the profession for their own safety and mental health and I cannot begrudge them of that. I get it. I am a very privileged teacher in that I have complete control over my curriculum with very little administrative oversight, therefore I have not been privy to much of the vitriol that teachers and librarians have been receiving nationwide. But I want all of you who are in the struggle that you have support from many teachers across the country, and here at Rich in Color. We see all the hard work you do in instilling a love of reading into your students, encouraging them to become empathetic towards their fellow man; just look at the power GenZ is having on the political climate. You gave them the opportunity to share their voices and they are now using that power with gusto. You did that! Be immensely proud in all that you have accomplished and what WE will accomplish this year. Go forth and be awesome!
And to keep this book related, I thought I’d share a teaching experiment that I’m doing this year. I have a unit titled American Perspectives where students research life in America from a perspective of an marginalized group. The students read articles, watch videos, then in groups, present their findings to the rest of the class. After that, they reflect on their own American Perspective and write a personal essay. This year I decided that instead of reading a class novel, each group will read a novel - a graphic novel actually, written by an author from the marginalized group they are researching.  The books are:
Huda F are You by Huda Fahmy
The Crossover by Kwame Alexander
Unearthed: A Jessica Cruz Story by Lilliam Rivera
American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang
Surviving the City Vol. 1 & 2 by Tasha Spillett
I am excited for this unit and the students’ response to reading the graphic novels. I’ll have to keep you posted!

✨ Books that Remind Me of Fearless TV ✨
“And I don’t know how it gets better than this / You take my hand and drag me headfirst / Fearless”
Fearless (Taylor’s Version) to me is about navigating life as a teenager, making mistakes and learning lessons. All culminating into growth and love for one’s self. These book choices all remind me of that theme and are books I highly recommend.
Books:
✨ Feel Your Way Through by Kelsea Ballerini- this poetry collection is all about working through the challenges of life and growing from lessons of youth.
✨ I Believe in a Thing Called Love by Maurene Goo- this novel is about finding love using K-drama steps only for those steps to lead to true feelings and the lesson that not everything has to go as planned.
✨ Huda F Are You? by Huda Fahmy- this graphic novel is about figuring out who you are and navigating high school with humor and self love.
✨ Bras and Broomsticks by Sarah Mlynowski- this novel is book one of one of my all time favorite series and explores the drawbacks of high school popularity as well as the repercussions of magic.
✨ Happily Ever Afters by Elise Bryant- one of my favorite novels and authors, this book explores discovering who you are, finding love in unexpected places, and knowing who your true friends are.
[ID: five books lay on top of a tan cardigan around a copy of Fearless (Taylor’s Version) with two necklaces laying across the CD. The books are mostly paperbacks with two hardcovers. They range in genre and color.]

Unleash the Power of Influence: The Ultimate Guide to Becoming a Social Media Superstar!
Tumblr media
Becoming a social media influencer can be a rewarding and exciting career path, allowing you to share your passions and interests with a large audience while also potentially earning money through sponsored content and collaborations. However, the path to success as an influencer can be challenging and requires a combination of strategic planning, hard work, and patience.
Step 1: Choose a niche The first step in becoming a successful influencer is to choose a niche or area of focus. This could be a particular hobby or interest, such as beauty, fashion, or travel, or a specific demographic, such as parenting or fitness. By focusing on a specific niche, you will be able to build a dedicated following of people who are interested in the same topics as you. For example, if you are passionate about cooking, you could create a food blog and share recipes and cooking tips.
Here are a few examples of influencers from different niches:
Beauty: Huda Kattan, also known as Huda Beauty, is a makeup artist and beauty influencer with over 52 million followers on Instagram. She is known for her makeup tutorials and product reviews and has also launched her own successful line of beauty products. Fitness: Kayla Itsines is a personal trainer and fitness influencer with over 12 million followers on Instagram. She is known for her Bikini Body Guides and her emphasis on healthy living and body positivity. Travel: Chris Burkard is a professional photographer and travel influencer with over 4 million followers on Instagram. He is known for his stunning photographs of outdoor adventures and remote locations and has also published several books and produced a documentary. Food: Tasty, is a YouTube channel and social media brand that creates and shares food videos, with over 80 million followers on YouTube and Facebook. They are known for their recipe videos that are simple, fast, and easy to make. Fashion: Chiara Ferragni, also known as The Blonde Salad, is a fashion blogger and influencer with over 21 million followers on Instagram. She is known for her personal style and collaborations with major fashion brands.
These are just a few examples, there are many influencers in different niches such as parenting, technology, entertainment, etc.
Step 2: Build your brand
Once you have chosen your niche, building your brand is next. This includes creating a consistent aesthetic for your content and developing a unique voice and personality. This will help you to stand out from the crowd and make it easier for your followers to recognize and remember you. For example, if you are passionate about fashion, you could develop a signature style that reflects your personal taste and create a cohesive look for your Instagram feed.
Step 3: Create engaging content
Creating engaging and high-quality content is essential for growing your following and building a loyal audience. This includes taking the time to create visually appealing and well-written posts that are relevant to your niche and align with your brand. For example, if you are a travel influencer, you could create a mix of content such as written blog posts, videos, and photographs of your adventures. SPE format to master short form content. Using the SPE format (Serial Position effect) is a great way to make sure your content is structured to keep people hooked. With attention spans sinking, it’s important to pay attention to the formats you use on social media. New trends, like short TikTok videos with gaming clips, show that users are looking for content that is easy to consume in short bursts.
You don’t have to create content on a daily basis, you can post 3-4 times each week, posting daily is good to grow faster but if you can’t provide it then reduce the times of posting, meanwhile focus on the quality of your videos. It is advisable to keep up with the trends, so whenever there is a new trend, post a video and use the trendy sounds as well.
When you’re first starting out on social media, don’t just focus on making posts. It’s important to keep your community engaged through features like Instagram Stories/Reels or comments. When you’re researching content ideas, keep an eye out for popular keywords in your industry. They’ll help you stay on top of the latest trends. Being consistent doesn’t mean you need to post every day. It means sticking to a content style that will keep people interested.
Social Media Strategy ≠ Content Strategy. Your social media strategy is all about getting people to your page, but your content strategy is what will keep them there and make them want to buy.
Step 4: Utilize social media platforms
Social media platforms, such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Twitter, are essential tools for building your following and growing your influence. It’s important to choose the platforms that are most relevant to your niche and where your target audience is most active. For example, if you are a beauty influencer, Instagram and YouTube might be the most effective platforms to share your content and engage with your followers. Understanding Broad Audiences. Before you start focusing on specific audiences, take the time to understand the overall appeal of each platform.
Tumblr media
Influencers typically optimize their social media platforms through a combination of strategies, including:
1. High-quality images and videos: Influencers often use high-quality images and videos to showcase their products, services, or experiences. They use visual storytelling to capture their audience’s attention and make their content more engaging.
2. Consistent aesthetic: Many influencers develop a consistent aesthetic for their content, which helps to create a cohesive look and feel across their social media platforms. This can include using specific filters, color schemes, or layouts to create a recognizable brand identity. Visuality Speaks on Pinterest. Pinterest is all about aesthetics, so make sure you’re curating boards that represent your niche and focus on visual content.
3. Hashtags: Influencers use hashtags to make their content more discoverable and increase their reach. They use popular and relevant hashtags that are related to their niche to connect with their target audience. Remember Keywords lead to Hashtags. It’s not just about using hashtags, it’s also about understanding what people are searching for so you can use the right ones.
4. SEO (Search Engine Optimization): Influencers use SEO techniques to make their content more discoverable on search engines. They use keywords in their bio, captions, and post titles, which helps their content to appear in search results.
5. Engaging captions and call-to-action: Influencers use captions and call-to-action to engage with their audience and encourage them to take specific action. They use questions, prompts, and comments to start conversations and encourage their followers to participate. Incorporating user-generated content (UGC) into your social media feeds can help make your brand feel more relatable and personal to your followers. Using clickbait headlines can be a good way to grab attention, but make sure you’re also telling a story that leads up to your call-to-action.
6. Don’t pin Viral Posts. Viral posts might seem like a good idea, but remember that they’re not always tailored to your specific audience. Make Them Question or Answer First. Make sure you’re engaging with your followers by asking questions and encouraging them to answer
7. More than 1 link decreases conversions. Keep it simple by including just one link. Too many options can be overwhelming for people.
8. Algorithm Moderates, you repurpose. Platforms like TikTok and Instagram use algorithms to moderate content, sometimes resulting in engagement rate fluctuations. To overcome this, it can be helpful to repurpose popular content from the past to keep your engagement rates steady. Algorithm Moderates, you repurpose. To overcome this, it can be helpful to repurpose popular content from the past to keep your engagement rates steady.
9. Paid Advertising: Influencers also use paid advertising on social media platforms, such as Instagram and Facebook, to reach a larger audience. They use sponsored posts, stories, and influencer marketing campaigns to promote their content and increase their visibility.
10. Collaboration: Influencers also collaborate with other influencers, brands, and companies to reach new audiences and increase their visibility. They can collaborate on social media campaigns, sponsored posts, and product reviews.
11. Social Media is more about networking. Social media is becoming increasingly pay-to-view, with platforms like YouTube and TikTok relying on recommendations to drive traffic. It’s important to remember that social media is about connecting with your audience, not just reaching them through ads. Building an engagement strategy, networking, and showing your audience why they should care about your brand are all key to success.
12. Perform a Year-End Social Media Business Audit. As the year comes to a close, it’s important for businesses to take stock of their social media efforts and assess what has been working well and what areas need improvement. A year-end social media business audit can help you identify areas for growth and set goals for the coming year. A social media audit is a process used to measure the success of your social strategy across accounts and networks. An audit identifies your strengths, weaknesses, and the next steps needed to improve.
By using a combination of these strategies, influencers can optimize their social media platforms and increase their reach and engagement with their audience.
Step 5: Network and collaborate
Networking and collaborating with other influencers and brands in your niche can help to grow your following and open up new opportunities for monetization. For example, if you are a fashion influencer, you could reach out to clothing brands and offer to feature their products in your content.
Step 6: Be patient and persistent
Building a successful following as an influencer takes time and patience. Be consistent in your posting and engagement with your audience, and don’t get discouraged if you don’t see immediate results. Remember that building a following takes time and effort, but with patience, persistence, and a solid strategy, you can become a successful influencer.

6. Be professional: When reaching out to companies, make sure to be professional and polite in your communication. Follow up with them if they don’t respond, but be respectful of their time and don’t be overly persistent.
Remember that building a relationship with these companies takes time and effort, but with patience, persistence, and a solid strategy, you can turn your passion into a successful career.
