I wish people weren’t so afraid of spiders and snakes to see them as inherently dangerous animals. As far as i can tell California doesn’t have any spider thats dangerous except to children (some recluses and widows including it seems the black widow and brown recluse. And yellow sac spiders which can have a nasty bite). Not to mention, a spider climbing on you in a flood is just trying to live. If you just stay calm and get to dryish land you can save them without much danger to yourselves.

California also doesn’t seem to have any venomous snakes except a sea snake and rattlers (ok there was a rear fanged colubrid but those cant even really envenomate unless its a feeding strike) None of which are species really known for going out of their way to hurt people.

Fleas are also not likely to be a major issue unless you have pets, except for potentially spreading illness. Human fleas aren’t all that common and the common species don’t actually like humans.

Anon I don’t know how to tell you this but fleas absolutely will bite humans if they’re hungry and low on their preferred host and a flood situation fits the bill for them to absolutely take more than a few opportunistic bites. And I hate to tell you this next part, but the Black Plague has been well documented as endemic to parts of california in the modern day. I’m sure it’s anywhere that fleas hang out really, but fleas are indeed a concern.

Also worth noting that in the case of phobias, the fear isn’t often rooted in a rational aspect or true presence of danger as much as it’s rooted in just psychological dread towards things that move different than humans and especially towards things that move different than humans very very quickly. Humans also tend to panic if any given animal is suddenly climbing on them. And humans make very poor decisions when panicked in an already stressful situation.

not to mention the fact that black widows and brown recluse spiders are absolutely capable of being threats to human health, and even if they’re really only fatal in children generally speaking, there are as a matter of fact statistically at least a few children in the flooded parts of california. And while your chances of encountering a flood rattlesnake or being bitten by a sea snake are low, they are never zero. Love and light.

I'd think so yes! I'd consider Pico being the one to ask out Bao, cuz where he grew up the animals he'd see when it came to courting each other they make their point very upfront, so if he takes interest in someone he's just gonna go for it. Plus he sees his uncles Warren and Hypno all the time and can already tell how smitten they are with other, he's no stranger to that.

Also yesssss!! I haven't drawn anything yet for them cuz I wanna draw their first meeting with each other first and foremost before I do sweetsy stuff (whenever that comes to pass)

Okay Date stuff or more like outings tho. I think Bao would enjoy taking Pico out around the Hidden City, showing him all of his favourite spots, catching in the sights etc. Pico would love it, but he still is basically a farmboy, so I think he could only handle being in large crowds and the overwhelming bustling city for so long and stick by Bao's side so they don't get separated once the wonder wears off. Bao would take this into account and try to think of areas where it's less noisy and crazy. On Pico's end of setting up dates, he'd invite him out to the forest, maybe spend some time with the dogs, go on picnics or hikes/walks. It's a good break for Bao too since he's busy running the tea shop all the time and could go for some peace and relaxation once in a while.

i think when ghost interacts with kids, he's one of those people that doesn't adopt a 'kid' voice and instead just seems to speak like he normally does. ofc he is nowhere near as harsh but that gruffness remains bc he doesn't really Know how to interact with kids

Great question! Here's a hastily thrown together video answer:

Essentially, scabbards are for conveniently carrying weapons when you don't expect to use them right now. Weapons of this size are so bulky that you simply wouldn't carry one /unless/ you intended to use it (even if what you intend to use it for is intimidation rather than actual combat). In which case, you want it in your hands, and ready for use.

(That's not to say that you couldn't make a scabbard design for a huge sword, and I've seen some viable options, but for the most part I don't think there's much point. I've taken weapons of this size to a LARP, and even if you can strap it to your back, you end up taking it off any time you want to go through a door, bend over, walk in a group, run, sit down, climb a tree, do a flip, tie your laces, or basically do anything that's not carefully walk in a straight line.)

What's your suffix list for your WCAU?

Oh lord I didn’t see this till now, I’m so sorry!

But basic idea is to use the @ailuronymy suffix list, but to expand upon it.

Such as using -belly for a jovial cat, -throat for a well spoken cat (or charismatic?), -pool for a notable intelligent cat (typically rare for the cats) and so on. Maybe even -brook, -tooth, or -poppy, but I’d probably use that for an alternative to -stream, -fang and -flower unless I can maybe find a way to use them otherwise.

Like maybe a -poppy cat is more interested in the rearing and tending to their own kits? Or perhaps they are ones who are more interested in teaching apprentices? Or maybe even another option is they’re knowledgable in burial customs since poppies are apparently a symbol for soldiers who passed away in war. Just some ideas for that specific suffix

Of course some will be added in to fleshen things out. Especially since we got the tunnelers in WindClan and now SkyClan.

But for now the ones mentioned above (-belly, -throat, and -pool) are confirmed for personality/skill suffixes. I am of course adding -patch, -speck(s/le), -spot(s), -dapple, and other pattern suffixes cause some of them are cute and tbh I’m attached to the name Leafdapple. And maybe gonna try and find a use for -brook, -tooth, and -poppy, and see about finding some more suffixes for others things to use for the AU at hand

sometimes i think about abe's early childhood and how simple it was. growing up on a little farm where he learned the value of hard work and honesty, where he got to laugh and run free without a care in the world. how his mom would sit with him under the trees while they all take a break and she would point to all the clouds that made silly shapes and she'd tell him all kinds of stories. how his dad would put him up on his shoulders and let him pick the apples from the trees.

sometimes i think about how simple his life was and how rapidly it shifted for him and how he barely remembers any of those moments because he was so young that he'll never quite have a grasp on them. and how desperately he holds onto what little he does remember before everything got so bad, those tiny fragment moments that he can just barely see in minds eye. still image memories.
