#Doodles#Adventure Time#Marceline#Fionna and Cake#Simon Petrikov#Just casually crying at my own art while I make it no biggie#Just ahhhh they do love each other! They want what's best for each other! But they missed each other so much!! And they still are!!#Both that they miss each other in the sense that they're lonely while together - Simon's Marceline was a child and Marcy's Simon was well#Not Ice King but also kinda yeah - and she'll never see him again#It's gotten be bittersweet#It's good that he has his mind! Very good! But he is forever un-changed/re-changed#I think it's canon that Simon was returned to being in his early 30s because Golb ate his age post him getting the crown?#It's not a retcon obviously lol but it's like his future has been retconned canonically in himself that's Gotta feel weird#But it basically undid the Simon that Marceline knew - the man who raised her was un-done even though they both remember him#Both of them just have to not think too hard about it probably :')#But even not thinking about that - Simon is still getting older! He's aging like a normal human again! And everything that comes with that#I love his crow's feet a lot <3 And his hair streak is so chic how did his genes know he would look so cute haha ♪#Poor both of them - I do want them to be happy! They've just got so much sad!#I also think it's quite funny that all those years ago before I watched AT Marceline was the one fanart I made haha - the more things change#Still drawing her! I wonder if younger me would be surprised#I like her short hair :D Her long hair is lovely - all her hairstyles are lovely! - but the short hair is so cute#Really reminds me of her kid hairstyle ;u; I'm sure that doesn't hurt Simon at all haha#I draw it a lot like Tala's hairstyle as well haha - it's The Kid hairstyle!

I have a big fat crush on Simon and Finn would you please do some hcs for either of them
Since I’ve already done some for Finn, I think now is a good time to write a little for Simon! Watching him become the latest Tumblr Sexyman™️ has been a dream come true.
*Ending contains spoilers for the last two episodes of Fionna and Cake*
TW: Trauma (this is Simon “‘My fiancé turned into a cosmic deity’ ‘That’s rough buddy’” Petrikov we’re dealing with), mentions of Depression, hurt/comfort
Simon Petrikov x Reader General Relationship Headcanons
Tumblr media
• Oh boy, this one’s a doozy.
• Please be patient with him. He is a mess of a person currently, still dealing with the grief of losing Betty and feeling like he doesn’t belong in Ooo no longer being magic. He gets so wrapped up in his sadness that he can neglect the relationships he has in the present. This gets much better after the ending though.
• Self care days are a must, please just pamper this man with a nice hot bath and a massage every once in a while.
• Really good cook, he loves making food for you and it makes him feel like he can actually take care of you.
• He worries about you a lot, especially if you’re someone that likes to take risks and do dangerous stuff.
• He’s a big nerd so he gets excited if you share interests in stuff like science and literature.
• Although he doesn’t like to go on life-threatening adventures (Finn), he still loves the exploring the outdoors and the two of you regularly go for hikes around the safer parts of Ooo.
• Will be very happy if you also have a good friendship with Marceline, seeing his partner and adoptive daughter interact touches his heart.
• Such a simp for you, like if you ask him for anything he will make it his mission to fulfill your request
• His love language is definitely words of affirmation. He needs you to tell him how much you care about him and he loves saying the same to you. He could go on for hours about every little thing he loves about you.
• Marcy and Bonnie will come over for dinner a few times a week, sometimes joined by Finn and HW as well.
• He hates celebrating his own birthday (he’s turning 60) but he loves yours and will definitely bake you a cake and throw small birthday party for you. The party only consists of a few close friends but if you don’t like parties he’s perfectly fine with it being just the two of you.
• At first he wasn’t sure if you would even want to date an old man like him, but as time went on he became more confident in himself and that he deserves love just as much as anyone else, and he’s more than happy to share that love with you.
Bonus!
• Despite her current state, GolBetty is immensely happy seeing Simon finally able to move on and be happy.
• Even if they never got their happy ending, the fact that you and him are able to live happily together brings her peace, and she trusts you to take care of him.

Okay I'm doing a Fionna and Cake ep 2 ramble, because there is so much Finn slander rn and after binging all of Adventure Time I'm losing my marbles over this.
So heavy spoilers below
This is probs gonna be a mess and idc if nobody reads this, I just want to chuck my feelings into the void of the internet.
First and foremost I genuinely DO NOT believe Finn is using Jake's kids to replace Jake. Finn has always been very extroverted and has been shown to have separation and abandonment issues (remember how fast he freaked when fern ditched him or how weird finn sword started acting after grass sword shattered it, and just Martin). It makes sense for his character that'd he'd continue adventuring with other friends and family after Jake. We also have to remember PB and Marcie are out being together, so while I'm sure they still hang out its not as much as it used to be. I genuinely see him turning to his remaining family to see if they want to tag along. Like I could 100% be wrong, but I feel if he was using Jake's kids he would've pushed more to get TV to follow them, but instead he just asked once and then just accepted/respected TV's decision to dip.
Okay now Simon and Finn are both grieving, and neither of them are dealing with it well. Finn has clearly emotionally regressed a bit and is struggling with the loss of Jake. There were numerous times where Jake showed to be really cool with death and Finn not at all be cool with Jake dying. I wouldn't be surpirised if they never really made any progress with that problem, again pretty sure Finn has abandonment issues, so its very easy to see Jake's passing setting him back years in emotional growth. But people have been saying things like "Finn's being ignorant to Simons feelings" "He's in complete denial" "He needs to learn to be a better friend" "He's lost all of the character growth he had in the show" and I cannot deal with this. These comments are the reason I'm making this because shenanigans.
A quick play by play of the very important interaction that people seem to gloss over.
Finn meets up with Simon starting to lose his shit in the bar over Fionna and Cake. He immediately tries to calm him down and Simon freaks out a little more. Finn acknowledges this isn't about the stories and gently asks him whats wrong. Simon proceeds to tell him while clearly having a breakdown, Finn tries to calm him down and even tells him he's sorry. Presumably a "I'm sorry your feeling this way." Simon then admits some really heavy stuff and at this point Finn realizes hes way out of his comfort zone and asks if he's talked to Marcie, i.e. the person that would be able to provide more/better support. Simon brushes that off, Finn basically hits him with a "there's so much more to live for" and Simon says some even darker things, Finn looks around for help, and at this point decides to play the distraction card.
Thats still our boy! Hes damaged but not completely emotionally unaware. He also knew his limits, he looked for help when things got dark and then began to try some stuff that helped him. Like honestly if a friend was saying some of the things Simon was to me and I had no backup I'd also play the distraction card. Were they good distractions? No, not for Simon. But he was genuinely trying. He's not happy but he's staying cheery to try and get Simon in a better place. He also isn't intentionally forcing Simon to go with him, and takes him home as soon as he expresses that he's done.
Its a mess, they're a mess and are absolutley not the ones to help each other. The blindfolds in the forest or "the blind leading the blind" is the perfect expression for what this trainwreck is. They both need outside help and I think thats what we're going to see in this show. This was the first two episodes that set the stage. I imagine there will be a "Finn Mertens" episode, so like lets chill out and cut our boy some slack, at least until we see the whole story, he genuinely tried. Honestly, having just rewatched the whole show, I have a fair bit of faith in the writing team, I highly doubt they'd butcher Finn's character like that.
Anyway I'm loving this show so far, just bugged by some of the hot takes to come out of it. This is all my opinions, so I guess my hot takes? But I just wanted to stand up for the boy.
Also also, people better not be blaming Marcie for being neglectful. Shes barely been seen yet, and currently has no idea whats happening. Give it a bit.
I'm also under the impression Finn's got a separate arm for adventuring, soley because getting another major injury off camera is just kinda out of charcter for the show. But Idk maybe they're just trying something new.

Why Betty Grof And Simon Petrikov shouldn't be together!
⚠️THIS IS MY OPINION! (I respect Betty x Simon Shippers and understand it's canon) ⚠️
here are my opinions of why I think they should not get back together or shouldn't have happened in the first place
This is more about Betty than Simon
Tumblr media
As someone who does like them being together and seeing how much they love each other, I personally think Betty and Simon deserved better than each other. Simon is selfish and Betty is a people pleaser/push-over.
WARNING: FIONNA AND CAKE SPOILERS!
Let's start with how they first met: in the recent episode of "Jerry", Simon tells Fionna how he and Betty first met
It's told before that Simon and Betty met in a library, and they touched hands. Soon Betty went to one of his lectures about ancient artifacts and sparked up a conversation with him, telling him how much she admired him and his work. This led Simon not to directly but to asking Betty to join him on his next trip to find The Enchiridion, which ended with Betty saying Yes as this was a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity"
as they both went on that trip and came back, they've both shown to like each other. the only problem is and still is that Betty never saw herself equal to Simon
as he came out of the car to show he found the book, Betty shyly refused to take his spotlight even though she helped him to locate The Enchiridion
As Simon finishes that chapter of the story for Fionna, Fionna herself says that Betty basically left everything for Simon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This will be a recurring issue with Simon and Betty as they live on. as the episode went on, Simon continued his story.
Simon and Betty somewhat parted but Betty ended up writing him a note for him to read fully knowing he would pick up that book (very cute) and wrote a note for him (Mind you! They only known each other for at least a couple weeks before parting to do their own thing for a while) after reading it, it seemed like Betty was truly in love with him, talking about how she wished to be by his side but still doing her own thing.
She was ready to go on that trip she had been waiting for a while. As she was waiting for the bus, Simon ran to go see her
her friend told Simon "Don't make her miss that bus" as it implied that Betty was happy and dreaming of going on that trip (It's also brought up in Betty's Past memories when she was in mars how she really felt during that whole thing)
but he stops her, tells her his feelings, and lived happily ever after, I'm sorry but that's a load of shit
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Simon didn't even go with Betty to that trip she wanted to go to, soon after all of this they went off to find items HE wanted to find, going on trips to help HIM find lost artifacts
as betty always went along with him, as it's said Betty kinda of picked this way of living, always following Simon because that's what "she" wanted. saying "I want to be by your side" but in that same letter she says she wanted to do her own things BUT have Simon by her side. To me it speaks that she still wanted to do her studies but with Simon there- but we all know how Simon treated her, What did Betty want to do after she got with Simon, We never found out and we all only know she just wanted to be with Simon. Betty nowhere in the series is shown to be her own person besides being the woman Simon is in love with.
Adventure Time: her past before she became Golb
Betty is the whole reason why she fucked up her own life and I mean this in the most respectful way to put it because she really became "God" to save SIMON
When Simon and Betty found the crown, Betty ran away from Simon but as we all know, she ran to the future Simon because He looked "normal" speaking as Betty did not like change whatsoever.
She ended up doing her own thing to see if she could help Simon to no longer be the ice king. Leading to Betty becoming the Magic Woman
Slowly making her go more and more insane as she still had her memories but every time she looked at Ice King it made her go mad. She betrayed Finn to save Simon but failed again (I know I missed the other time where she made an AI version of her to fix the crown but I don't find it too important besides showing how far she's willing to go to save Simon even if it meant killing him)
Betty ended up being on Mars for a while before Finn and Jermaine arrived, they all ended up seeing Betty's old life young Betty, the Betty that was meant to leave to her trip that even Present Betty herself changed the dates to make past Betty leave on her trip because Betty knows that Simon was something she may have wished never happened
She herself said that she gave so much to Simon that she didn't know if there was any left for herself
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
throughout all of Betty's life, it's always been about Simon she gave up her trip, she left her Simon for future Simon, she became mad to save Simon, she became a God to save Simon
In the ending of Adventure Time, Betty pushed Simon out of Glob and made one last wish "I wish for the power to protect Simon" making her fuse with Golb itself
Her last moments, her final wish, it was to protect Simon not save the beings of OOO, or OOO itself- just Simon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as much as they seemed to be in love, Betty was always in the shadow of Simon, giving up her own life for him
Not to mention that it seems like Betty did most of what she did through Puppylove and the honeymoon parts of relationships we don't really know how long they were together before finding the crown but it couldn't be to long after they got together (but I could be wrong) so half of the things she did was for Simon to be his normal self (to me it seems like Betty just wanted to be with Simon as she did go through a portal to be with him as he looked normal instead of staying with her Simon to help him with the crown, Betty doesn't want change)
I can only compare Betty to Millie from Helluva Boss she's an amazing fighter as Betty is smart but what are they?
Millie is Moxxie's wife, and Betty is the lover of Simon. But what else is there to them? besides Betty being a God what more do we know about her? The fact that she studied petroglyphs
There is so much to Betty that even the show called it out but even now, as Fionna and Cake come out, what will happen to Simon and Betty? will she come back as normal Betty to be back with Simon, I really hope not if Simon keeps going to only think of himself
In my personal opinion, I really don't want Betty and Simon to get back together but I at least want Simon to get that closure he needs to move on
Final words:
Sorry if some of the things I said were repeated, I just needed to air this out, if anyone has questions I'll be willing to answer them but if not, that's cool, please don't be mean to me about how "I'm wrong"
we all have different views on how ships should work in media but in opinion, a woman giving up her life for a man isn't for me! even if it's for true love, because even that same man didn't help her with her dreams
I hope what I write makes sense, sometimes I can't get my words right about how I feel about topics
Thank you for reading!

fionna and cake e6 spoilers + thoughts on the endgame for this series
firstly, on ice prince: i think it's good for simon's development that he got to see this. but it could also be very bad if he doesn't allow himself to ruminate on it. ice prince spends most of the episode making simon feel like shit, because ice prince apparently conquered the madness of the crown out of sheer force of will, will that simon apparently lacked. and ice prince is living the life, having everything simon wishes he could have - the benefits of the crown with none of the downsides.
except, that's a lie. it's only until the very end of the episode is it revealed that he was actually broadcasting the madness of the crown into bubblegum, showing that this ideal cannot exist. the fun magical simon everyone claims to want is a falsehood. you cannot have the magic without the sadness and the madness.
what i find very curious about this universe is that it seems to run very similar to ooo. all the candy subjects are present, albeit mutilated by bubblegum's crown-influenced mind, and we even see a young ice marcy with the same axe bass ooo marcy has. so the simon of this universe had to have gone down nearly the exact same path as ooo simon, with a few exceptions:
he somehow had the thought to beam the madness away from him, implying he had help or some level of cognition or malice ooo ice king never had.
he and marcy are no longer on speaking terms (why recreate a person if you can just talk to them).
he's not obsessed with betty.
the last one of these is the one that stands out the most. the (outwardly) most functional simon we've seen so far does not care about betty. she died and he got over it. which leads me to my main thought about the ending of this series:
i don't think simon and betty should end up together.
their story is very much one of cycles, a loop of loss and finding and being lost again. simon has been grieving betty for decades, given how much finn's aged, yet simon never seemed to get out of the third and fourth stages of grief - he's cycling between depression and bargaining and seems to have been for a while. this is definitely not helped by being a normal man in a world full of magic when that magic can't even bring back the person he wants.
and if he does find her in the other multiverses, it wouldn't last. either she wouldn't be "his betty", or he'd become an anomaly just like fionna and cake, and would end up wreaking havoc anyway. he needs to accept that the woman he loves is gone. even if he somehow made his way to golbetty, betty's wish in the AT finale was to keep simon safe. golbetty is NOT safe, that's why she left so quickly during that battle. if he approaches her, there is no guarantee that she'll stay put. she could even boot him back to ooo.
much like his desire to get the crown and be magical again, his desire to find betty is founded on the falsehood that everything will be fine if he just has this one thing.
now, granted, this doesn't mean i wouldn't like to see him try. he is so dedicated to this line of thought that it's very likely he could end up regressing into ice king if they do manage to find a crown. that's the point of this kind of narrative, seeing the protagonist struggle and fail before eventually coming to the final realization. it's a story of grief and addiction, and those are never linear things. we still have four episodes left, and a lot could happen.
which, to that point, i think the marceline episode is going to be in the next batch, either e7 or e8. i am fairly confident this will be a world where either a) simon did not find the crown and died in the bombing, b) simon briefly spent time with marcy but died in an attack, or c) simon left marcy earlier and she ended up falling in with the vampires. her manner of dress in the trailer and promo image seems to suggest that this is a marcy who was either raised by her father and proudly wears the crown of vampire queen, or was raised by the vampires who were killing humans after the bombs. i believe this could only happen under those three circumstances.
this is going to be especially important for simon's development on two fronts. firstly, it shows that simon's time as himself was worth something. marceline is much better off having had his help during the years right after the bombing. even though he left in the end, what he did to help her prevented her from becoming whatever she is in this upcoming episode. and, secondly, it's a reminder that the marcy back at ooo is still someone he can talk to. just because she has a girlfriend/wife now doesn't mean that he's unwelcome in her life. it's the classic depression isolation, and maybe this realization will get him to break out of it somewhat.
also for future episodes, betty shows up in the trailer, and i'm willing to bet(ty) that this is going to be either e9 or e8, depending on how long simon's going to sit on this interaction and process it. i can see it being in the next batch if e9 and e10 are going to be the climax and resolution, but i can also see this betty scene happening in e9 and pushing him into regression and a mental spiral in e10, which is mostly him having a horrible time and the world of fionna and cake shaking up as a whole.
it's snowing over there now. maybe they get some earthquakes as foreshadowing to the breakdown simon's about to have. truly, who knows? we just gotta wait. but it will be interesting either way, i think.

Sorry if you’ve already made a post about this, but what do you think Marceline and Betty’s relationship would have been like (if they actually interacted much) We know that she’s able to envision her as a mother figure (the first coma dream in stakes) but do you think that would change if she and Magic Woman ever actually met?
I think it's possible, sure, but I also think it's liable to fall into one of the big things surrounding Betty with Simon in particular; wanting something that can never really happen is a tremendously appealing idea for people like Simon and Marceline?
Broadly I think there's a few different ways it could happen: 1. Betty winds up being more scared of Marceline than expected, forcing Simon to choose between the two (and arguably, he's spent more time and grown closely to Marceline and for drama I would have him side with Marceline in the end). 2. Betty winds up being a mother figure for her but probably more strict than Simon and potentially even dangerous in her own way as Magic Woman. 3. We get a similar situation to Ice King where she does grow to love Marcy but her inherent instability and swelling madness makes her actively dangerous to her. 4. like 3 except it winds up okay somehow, with Marceline, Ice King and Magic Woman managing to somehow salve each other's respective problems into something that's kooky but surprisingly functional.
Some more indepth thoughts:
So I consider there's a few likely things to happen in the circumstance that Betty is actually around Marceline and Simon for this. The first one is that Betty actually does become a mother figure to her; personally I find this pretty interesting given that Elise (Marceline's mom) was very close to Marceline and she misses her badly, but as that dream shows, she longs for a bigger family and certainly loves the idea of Betty in that part of her life. Notably, Simon is a little older there than he was biologically at that time; he's got crows feet, so its not implausible that this is Marceline imagining if they had raised her all her life.
However there's a recurring motif going on with Betty that is most obvious with Simon, but keeps coming up with people who know ABOUT her but haven't actually met her; that they project a lot of feelings towards her as the ideal loved one in a lot of ways. They're not wrong exactly, but come from a LOT of emotional distance and I think they ultimately are projecting a lot on someone they haven't actually met, or have known for a long time.
There is a term for this: loving a shadow. Basically its wishful projection. Character A projects onto the idea of loving Character B, fixating on the life they would have together, or grows attached to their assumptions of what it would be like to be with them in some form or another. Simon's relationship with Betty has EXTREMELY STRONG tinges of this to start; among other things, I think his character arc in Fionna And Cake has a lot of this going on; he fixates on the life they could have had together that he cannot bring himself to let go of it. And I think its quite likely to happen with Marceline imagining her as a mother figure.
Simon in particular suffers from this the most. He fixates heavily on Betty as his One True Happily Ever After; he longs for the life he imagines he would have had with her, he fixates on her to the point that even as Ice King he's attaching his buried attachment to her towards anyone that fits the princess description and implicitly Bubblegum, who has a LOT in common with Betty. Gunther in the crown even remarks about how Betty isn't much like he imagined her, so I think anyone who mostly knows about her from Simon are going to have a somewhat warped view of an ordinary woman who was somewhat impulsive and intellectually motivated, but wasn't the perfect ideal Simon thinks of her as. And this certainly would include Marceline!
After many years of separation and loneliness, Simon seems to, around the time he met Marceline, build up Betty into this ideal icon of the life he wanted and that was taken away from him. It's likely not one that has a lot of ties to reality; she could argue, or have normal disagreements, and certainly she might even have been scared of Marceline.
So here's the first possibility; they meet and Betty falls short of Marceline's likely very high expectations; she's a regular person, in the end, and can't possibly live up what Simon has come to think of her. Regular Betty would likely be scared of Marceline even as a child, as most people were until Ooo became increasingly more strange overall. If Betty was somehow around when Simon met Marceline, I think its likely she would be scared of her; whether this would be enough for her to leave Simon or being a bit slower to come around to Marcy are equally possibilities. If this is Magic Woman later on, bear in mind that Marceline is probably existentially terrifying; she's not just a vampirized demon, she also can eat your soul. It doesn't come up much because Marcy is the biggest sweetheart in the show despite her tough attitude, but Betty doesn't know that.
But what if Betty was able to move past that and see Marcy for the genuinely good and lonely person she is? This brings us to 2. Betty as one of Marceline's parents, and most likely the more strict one, though I would note that based on what we see of their domestic life, Betty is still pretty much a goofball; strict would be a relative measure.
As Magic Woman, this would become more pronounced, especially if she gets more unstable; she would likely be even more dangerous than Ice King, who is stil lfundamentally Simon and not that dangerous. He always holds himself back; Betty does not.
3 gives us a scenario where Magic Woman is trying to be a good influence in her life but immense magical power and the madness that comes with it are going to create problems; I can easily see Magic Woman being even more of a threat to Marceline, as noted above. This would also be most likely if it happened in the present day or if Betty gained magical powers while Marceline was a kid. For added drama, she could even start randomly lashing out of her in misplaced jealousy of Simon focusing on her.
4 is probably the best possible outcome where we have Magic Woman, Ice King/Simon and Marceline in a weird family relationship; the first two in full magically driven madness while still being good parents, in their own way, to Marceline. This honestly has a lot of potential and is even a big aspect of a few AUs I've been thinking about, though it is less inherently dramatic unless you assume there is a tipping point where someone does something to drive the others off, perhaps, but its equally valid to assume it just winds up stabilizing into a weird family.

the Catch-Up post (tm)
would it really be me doing this if i didn't commit to doing something regularly and then go MIA for months at a time? i have obviously not stopped watching and reading things though, so time to fill in all of the things since whatever i talked about last. i actually did keep a pretty meticulous list, so this is all of the stuff i'm pretty sure. ok so here we go!
Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake Season 1 (despite it being the first thing on this list, i'm actually writing this "review" last. i don't know why, but it feels like i've got a real duty to this one because it was special to me. i loved this. it was so much fun, it was so interesting and incredible and kinda exactly what I wanted it to be. the songs were great, the episodes were hilarious and devastating, the ends of it all were really great. the characters were great, i can go on forever. I also think it's not perfect. small decisions i don't like, some tropes/ideas in it that i don't love[see the season 11 review down below for an example]. idk it wasn't perfect but i really really loved what it was and i'm very excited[and also a little skeptical to be honest] about the new season. this somehow sounds like i have no enthusiasm for it whatsoever. oh well, i care about it. source: just trust me.)
A Fistful of Dollars(why are guns in westerns so phallic what's going on with that. like dudes just runnin' their hand over their guns getting real sweaty staring into each other eyes. you sure you don't wanna be reaching for his gun sir. are you sure sir.)
Batman: Under the Red Hood(movie) (it's very good! at times it did feel a bit like jason and bruce were vessels for the moral conflict at the center of the story rather than characters within that story, but it was very good and enjoyable.)
Adventure Time: Season 11(THIS. THIS is the good stuff. a GREAT way to pick up after come along with me. the way that it reinforces marcy and PB's relationship while still commenting on their immortality[i'm so sorry, but the "together in every universe" thing is not really my favorite so it was very nice to see this after fionna and cake], the way it treats BMO as non-binary/genderqueer in some way is so fun, the way that it expands on finn as a character in the last two issues, gives minerva time on screen, develops an interesting conflict, all the interpersonal interactions. it's just so fucking good. LOVED this absolutely loved it.)
Adventure Time: Marcy & Simon(it's a neat story, but i feel like it gets held back because it doesn't know what it wants to be. the plot of the story revolves entirely around simon, but the emotional core of the story revolves around marcy. which doesn't sound contradictory, but the threat of the story revolves around simon turning back into the ice king and the reader is supposed to be really upset about it because marcy's gonna lose her dad again[which is totally fair] but after watching fionna and cake it just feels a bit hollow that marcy losing her dad again is the emotional driving force of the comic. simon was just a insane freak for 1000 years, surely he has some feelings about that, right?)
Adventure Time: Playing with Fire(i was really hoping that this was going to be a deeper sort of dive into finn and FP's relationship because the show only gave them a few episodes together outside of their getting together and their break up. it was not that. it's a cute little story for what it is, but it's not really anything special.
Death on the Nile(Kenneth Branagh Movie Version) [idk what everyone's got against Kenneth's Poirot, but he's killing it from the two movies I've seen so far. really beautifully shot, the plot and story moves along really well, and the ending had us GAGGED. so good. want to read the books now.)
The Mothman Prophecies (there's like. not even any mothman. what the fuck guys. the rest of the movie is weird and not very good. but what's up with the no mothman. literally named the movie after him, he's in one shot. come on now.)
The Sword and the Scoob(the beginning is agonizing, but the rest of it is funny and enjoyable. not incredible still, but hey.
The Saga of King Hrolf Kraki(an old northern european epic poem. it's hilarious, it's weird, it's good, it follows like 30 characters over 100 years. check it out if you like other epic poems/classic high fantasy stuff.)
Hero (this movie is fucking cracked out and it's incredible. they're flying around on walls and fighting and everything. it's so fun. the story telling devices are also very interesting. the use of color is super cool. also, apparently not very true to history.)
Book Lovers (i've read emily henry's other books, but this one did not impress. the main characters whose names i can no longer remember spend the whole book avoiding their emotional problems and then just have a happy ending fall in their lap at the end. they don't work to make that happen, don't really feel like they face their feelings about anything. it's just pages and pages of avoiding everything.)
The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec (this movie was boring. and it made not a lot of sense. but the mummies. they were incredible.)
The Heart Sellers (theatre show i went to see! tbh i don't remember a whole ton about it but it was funny and also emotional and i'd recommend it but i think the lack of emotional memory of it does say something)
The Owl House Season 1 (it's really cute[plus points for some gay, always a good time]! it feels very children's show in this season, which sounds dumb to say because it IS a kid's show, but every episode feels like it has a very obvious moral and structure despite the episodes being really fun. until the season finale hits. then it gets so real so fast.
Invincible Compendium 1(tbh i would probably struggle to comment on this part of invincible right now because i have read like 30 more issues by now and i cannot remember what is in this collection and what is in the second. so instead, i will say this. it's an interesting story that likes to take a more paranoid and pessimistic attitude to a typically upbeat genre. saving the day and stopping the criminal usually ends up in a lot of problems for mark, and the reappearance of supervillains and failures along the way begin to wear him down. i don't think it's the best superhero story ever, or even the most "real", but it is genuinely interesting and engaging.)
Mary Shelley's Frankenstein(movie) [it's an interesting retelling of frankenstein if you're looking for an adaptation that takes SOME liberties but not too too many. it's interesting, but it's not super great beyond that.]
Pikmin 4 (i LOVE pikmin and i LOVED this game it's so cute and fun and I love getting my little creatures and oh boy oh man this game rocks.)
Heartstopper Volume 5 (got it on the day it came out! after forgetting it was coming out... it's really good, maintains a healthy mix of fluffy moments and real character drama, and it's full of great little details and might be my favorite volume yet. it's really really good. the art remains really stellar as well, actually so good.)
The Owl House Season 2(the one where shit gets real. this season is a fucking banger from start to finish. the characters and interesting and fleshed out, the conflict is complex, the world is so interesting and it's all so cool and nice looking and emotional and OH MY GOD it just rocks so hard. i'm really nervous to watch the final season because i just KNOW some shits gonna go down but i absolutely will because this show is so good.)
Doctor Who and the Daleks (the movie not the serial) (one of the peter cushing ones! it's fun and kinda interesting, but mostly as an adaptation of the serial from the show. it's not really better than the show in any way, aside from the fact that i like the way susan is written a little more in this version. the color is neat too! but watch the original story first.)
X-Men: Days of Future Past(comic) [ok so i read this big compiled version that that days of future past, days of future present, days of future yet to come, and this like wolverine prequel thing. in a big surprise to me, i think days of future yet to come was my favorite. days of future present was also really good, and days of future past is a classic but the way that they return to the future to try and save the people who rewriting the timeline didn't save, to save ALL mutantkind from the sentinels of this universe. it's really sick actually. also the wolverine prequel is fine. it's not a bad story, but having it set in the future past universe doesn't really give the story anything aside from a little general flavor.)
Ultimate Spider-Man #1(the new one! it's looking SO promising, and the fact that it seems like it's going to be a semi-limited series is really nice to hear because it's the first storyline i'm picking up as single issues as they come out. adult peter is great, the characters and different universe are exciting, green goblin is looking interesting, as long as they don't ruin peter's life for the 59th time, i'm looking forward to the next issue!)
Superman Vs. Meshi Volume 1(i knew the premise, the style, a lot of things about this manga before going in. it was still surprising and ridiculously silly and funny and weird and really worth checking out. super funny and charming.)
Monty Python & the Holy Grail(ridiculous. it was very funny and clearly a touchstone for self-referential and meta humor for other things down the road. wasn't quite as funny as is rumoured though, maybe because its jokes are so frequently referenced and i've seen some of the clips before.)
invincible compendium 2(i've been writing like 3 sentences and then clicking off this draft for so long that i accidentally read like 30 more issues of invincible. my thoughts on it are pretty much the same as i wrote for compendium 1(go figure) but yeah i'm really enjoying it. won't discuss the story or anything because the show is coming out now though)
also i don't wanna put in pictures because it's 2am and i'm being lazy and i just wanna have finally posted this so wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
