i haven't been able to let go of glass onion (in a bad way) bc there's just something so frustrating about it and earlier today, i was trying to explain it to my brother and i said something about it feeling like "baby(aka rian) just saw get out and wants to write an equally clever script but for some reason it's also a murder mystery" and like. i think i got there. i think my main problem is how heavy handed everything is. but it's acting like it's so subtle and cool and smarT. saying "millionaire is bad bc he's dumb, actually!" is so lazy. saying "haha influencer thinks sweatshops make sWEATpants" is lazy. whatever the fuck he was saying about duke, the "haha alt-right man lives in mama's basement and is bullied by her hahaha" is lazy ?!?!?!?
get out(as my example of an actual clever movie) was smart because when you watch a second time you're like "oh shit that's why he said he couldn't bare to let them go after his parents died. he MEANT HIS PARENTS ANd NOT THE HELP" but in glass onion, a second viewing would just be you sitting there like "that's not actually andi, that's helen." that's not clever ?!?!?!?!?
since i've seen others talking about this, as someone who writes predominately lengthy fics (5k+ words), what annoys me the most is that i've seen so many people on tumblr & tiktok specifically say "i hate when writers have too much build-up and don't get straight to the smut, i just skip to it." ???? writers spend HOURS on pieces like that, and to find out you don't really care is very disheartening & is quite literally going to kill not only writing on these platforms but literature as a whole
going through the tag was so much fun before the movie dropped, now i get annoyed at every other post i see. the expectations some of you had for this movie? unfathomable to me. imagine they had included june and rafael and leo and all the plot points you cry about not making the final cut and think about the scenes they would have had to delete to make room for all of that. idk about y'all but i rather have them focus on the love story and make the most of that instead of taking bits and pieces from every other storyline without fleshing out any of them. would it have made a great tv show? YES. did we get a tv show? no, we got a movie and a damn good one at that. if you miss june or "cornbread knows my sins, henry" that's valid but how about you just read the book again? it isn't gone just because the movie came out. read the book, love the book and simply view the movie as additional content instead of a replacement of the source material, it's not that hard.
still not over the absolutely braindead take that "if you say brutalism looks dystopian, you care more about your aesthetic than people having homes!!!!"
like
can't criticize Shein or you must want their workers to be unemployed
oh you don't like that restaurant? guess you want the people eating there to STARVE
fuck both roses AND bread; nutrient-dense gray EnergyCubes would keep you alive so wishing for a better sensory experience is basically capitalist bootlicking
(I agree that considering Soviet-era brutalist apartment buildings in the context of "shit we need housing; put something up quick" is important for those specific structures- though I think that can coexist with "wow that's ugly" -but. this person did not stop there)
Quackity: Oh, it's gonna be so cool to see how this develops. I'm excited, I'm gonna try my best. I'm not the greatest at Minecraft whatsoever, I did nerf Green Team a little bit by accident on the second day. My bad! But, you know, I'm so ready to just grind out and see what we can do, and I just–
I wish everyone saw it with the same amount of, like, kind of enthusiasm. I think all of this and all the development and all the potential arcs, that's going to fcking allow for something absolutely incredible.
And if anyone ends up clipping any of this, something I do want to say is I implore people to view everything with a lot of enthusiasm. No stress, no anxiety, just a lot of enthusiasm. Because, again, this is going to allow for a lot of cool things in the server. Not just now, but in the future, too.
Guys, I saw something and need to clarify somethig since someone might think the same, I don't beg for attention, I don't need attention (that's how I always lived, seriously, I am absolutely okay without any and I don't see anything wrong in not having any if it's not a work that demands it), a lot of posts constantly that just bury your dash might be annoying and that's why I've been telling to block me, not follow me, in fact a lot of attention exhausts me very quickly, all I do here I do for myself, I love what I do, I specifically don't put a lot of tags on some posts because I've been making them mostly for myself and someone specific (for them just to see it and know that I care and love what they do, not react on it. That's why I'm sometimes sad when people pressurely tell me that I didn't react on something they created for me or didn't interact with them, I'm deeply sorry, I can't answer on them all if I don't feel like it and hope you understand it) *polite bow*
I mean, guys, we all will walk on separated roads sooner or later, but for now I wanna have as much fun as I can 🧡
There are a lot of beautiful people over here who already told that they are okay with my chaos, but there might be some knew who will be confused XDDD
Disclaimer that I might be wrong about this, only personal impressions etc., but I feel like there exists a tendency to often depict first age Galadriel as not only particularly distanced but also disdainful towards the rest of her kin, particularly regarding Alqualondë. Which is very interesting to me, if you consider that she's the one who gets a scene of direct and pointed questioning with Melian about the finer points of the exile and lies (even if by omission) to her face. Which occurs after she had already established a stable acquaintanceship with her.
Galadriel his sister went not with him to Nargothrond, for in Doriath dwelt Celeborn, kinsman of Thingol, and there was great love between them. Therefore she remained in the Hidden Kingdom, and abode with Melian, and of her learned great lore and wisdom concerning Middle-earth.
-Chapter 13: OF THE RETURN OF THE NOLDOR
She furthermore also seems committed to letting bygones be bygones:
And on a time Melian said: ‘There is some woe that lies upon you and your kin. That I can see in you, but all else is hidden from me; for by no vision or thought can I perceive anything that passed or passes in the West: a shadow lies over all the land of Aman, and reaches far out over the sea. Why will you not tell me more?’
‘For that woe is past,’ said Galadriel; ‘and I would take what joy is here left, untroubled by memory. And maybe there is woe enough yet to come, though still hope may seem bright.’
-Chapter 15: OF THE NOLDOR IN BELERIAND
Which is not to say that she couldn't have born a grudge about Alqualondë, but rather that she prioritized unity among the Noldor and Sindar over acting on said grudge and made the deliberate choice to try and move on, even at the cost of her personal integrity (since she presumable started her tutelage while the first kinslaying was still kept a secret which is...audacious to say the least).
