your brows pinched together at max’s words. looking over your shoulder to see steve leaving the register, heading back towards your booth with a pastel pink box in hand.

the boy slid into the open seat beside you. shoulder to shoulder and thigh to thigh. his warmth radiating off his body blankets you from the february chill that seeps into the diner’s walls.

“what’s in the box?” robin questioned while making a grab for it. steve quickly slapped- gently tapped- the approaching hand away. robin making a scene for no one.

“not for you, buckley. for my favorite girl.” and steve looked directly at you.

“aw, thanks steve-o.” max fawned. a simple giggle slipped from your mouth while steve rolled his eyes. “not for you either, rugrat. only for my favorite, most special girl.” finally sliding the pastry box in front of you.

steve tapped his fingers against the table top, “they had your go-tos so i got one of each.” your cheeks warmed as you opened the top, “you didn’t have to, stevie.”

“yeah, stevie. what about us?” robin pointed between her and max, a twisted pout to her face.

steve eyed them, “what about you two? get your own stuff.” huffing like they were insane to think steve would do anything of that level for them.

eyeing the different options you grabbed a donut and proceeded to spilt the item into four small bites. handing off two for max and robin, replacing them with another two, one for you and the other for steve. hand waiting for steve, he wrapped his fingers around your wrist delicately as he bites into his awaiting treat. you chuckle at the silliness.

“you too are gross.” robin declared with her mouth full. steve copied her actions, “says you. close your mouth while chewing.” placing his hand over his mouth in after thought.

“so,” speaking up to change the subject, “any nice plans this week?” referring to valentine’s day on wednesday.

“lucas says he’s taking me some place special, which might be the arcade.” max played it cool but you could tell it affected her in a good way.

“band practice is my special valentine. can’t complain too much.” robin punctuated her sentence with a sip of water.

“what’s the dynamic duo gonna do on the day of love?” max teased, batting her lashes while cupping her cheeks.

you shrugged, “don’t think we have plans-“ “yes we do.” steve is quick to fix you misunderstanding.

there was a surprised spark in your eyes, “we do?”

steve’s brows furrowed, “yeah. i told you about the dinner date i scheduled.” now your bows scrunched, “yeah, but i thought you were going on a date.”

steve leaned towards you, “i am. with you.” punctuation on those two words, letting every letter hit you in the face.

you sat shell shocked, eyes focused over steve’s shoulder while robin and max almost jumped from their vinyl seats.

“for real?” “since when were you dating?”

at the word dating you shook away any incoming thoughts and waves away their curiosity. “we’re not dating. we’re just friends. steve’s like this with everyone.” knowing that would end any discussion.

three sets of eyes stared you down, you wanted to shrink into the ground from the attention. “what?” a squeak at their baring eyes.

“steve is only sugary sweet to you. do you not remember five minutes ago? when he bought you treats, without you asking, then told me and max to fuck off.” robin questioned.

“language-“ “i didn’t say that-“

max waved you both off, “whatever. what robin is trying to get at is, you are dating. steve openly flirty banters with you, you reciprocate in a flustered mess, and steve has hearts beaming from his corneas.” max’s palms smack onto the table.

your mouth opened, then closed. open, close, open, close. “i just,” you hands flapped about, “i- i thought he just- you know…”

“no we don’t, but please, tell us.” robin eyed you wolfishly.

anxiously you pinched the skin around your fingers, teeth biting into your bottom lip, eyes darting everywhere not knowing what your next move was.

“alright, enough teasing. let’s just get everyone home.” steve broke the silence. sliding out beside you then holding a waiting hand out, you couldn’t help but just to stare at it, like it might bite you or something.

“it’s alright, sweetheart. we’ll talk later.” soft, kind filled brown eyes watched your movements as you set your palm to his and he help you exit the booth smoothly. steve gave a squeeze before releasing his hold and your chest felt heavy again.

he called you sweetheart. he usually throws pet names about, but this one just felt… different. your brain connected to it differently.

robin and max were silent on the drive to their houses, radio at medium volume, but they kept the backseat of the bmw silent as a church mouse.

you could barely look steve’s way, barely glance at him from your peripheral. he didn’t seem tense from your words just… dejected. a gloomy cloud hanging over his head and it’s because you friend zoned him while he thought you both were together.

no chance he wants to be with you now, blew it for yourself before you even had a proper chance. you wallow in silence.

robin was the first to be dropped off. steve came to a slow stop in front of her tiny house, shifting into park so he could look back with a gentle smile, “call if you need anything. and try not to do anything clumsy.”

robin rolled her eyes in a playful manner, “i’ll try not to dad.” and she left with a comforting squeeze of your bicep.

steve waited until robin waved you off an closed her front door. “okay mayfield, home or someplace else?” he always asked when driving her.

“umm, wheeler’s. please.” yeah, she felt sorry about earlier. her please and thank you’s were a bit sparring.

again silence. you wanted to speak, but with max still in the car you held your tongue. pinching at the material of your jeans while eyeing the scenery passing by in a blur, you couldn’t help flinching at the touch of skin covering your own. you looked down cautiously to see steve’s right hand resting over your fidgeting one, stopping your mindless action.

the fifteen minute drive pasted into two minutes when you saw the big two story home come into view. you saw a couple of bikes laying in the front yard and suspected the boys also were invading the family home.

“thanks for the ride. i’ll be fine to get home later.” shuffling mixed with her words before popping the left back door open. a soft thud followed her exit then she stopped outside your window and lightly tapped.

you rolled it down with concern at her sorrow filled expression. “i’m sorry. about earlier. i wasn’t trying to-“

“max,” cutting her off, “it’s okay. i know you didn’t mean harm and plus, might’ve opened my eyes today.” playing coy with your words.

a smile flickered at her lips while her eyes looked over your shoulder. she left with a pep to her step and you were finally alone with your steve.

“so wanna-“ “did you really think we weren’t dating?”

you could help your light chuckle, “getting straight to the point i see.”

steve sputtered, “i just- it felt like we’ve been on multiple dates. and- and we’re very touchy with each other, always there for each other. i just- i just thought we were dating after the trip to chicago.”

that did turn into a pretty romantic trip now that you thought back on certain scenarios. “i think i’m just blind to romantic advances. didn’t think i was your type.” mumbling the last part.

you’ve seen the girls steve’s been with in the past. all perfect, petite, not quite hair out of place and makeup painted over delicate skin. you weren’t those things, you were messy at times, flyaways sticking up from nonexistent static, stains appearing on your clothes without knowing.

you didn’t deserve steve, he deserved someone-

“hey.” a finger crooked under your chin and moved your head from its slumped position. steve homely brown eyes darted over your face, your imperfections. you wanted to flinch away. he must’ve read your mind since her cupped your cheeks with his warm palms.

“you are none of those things i know your thinking too much about. you are completely deserving of being loved deeply and i’m happy to be that person to pour his soul into yours. if you’ll verbally say yes so we’re on the same page this time.”

your own hands wandered to hold onto steve’s wrist, “that was quite romantic of you. didn’t think of you to be a sap.” deflecting a bit from nerves.

steve smiled brightly, “for you i’ll always be a sap. practically turn into honey for you.” leaning over his console to press a kiss onto the tip of your nose. “so what do you say, wanna give us a proper go?”

you bit into your bottom lip, “i guess i could try.” smiling so wide your cheeks ached as steve dotted kisses over your face, not suppressing your giggles of glee.

You turned in your gamer chair looking at your boyfriend. "Um, yeah."

★彡 TOJI FUSHIGURO.

The first time Toji ever felt genuine love was when he put that pretty golden band on your finger.

The second was when he looked into Tsumiki’s big, brown eyes for the first time.

Then the third came with a small head of black hair and the name he’d chosen long before he'd known whether his kid would be a boy or a girl: Megumi.

From then on, life was a journey for him.

Growing up, Tsumiki was much calmer than Megumi, who would fuss and cry at every little thing. His papa wouldn't read to him long enough? He'd bawl his eyes out. He couldn't reach the fridge handle because his legs were too stubby? Waterworks. His toy was missing after he'd been the one to misplace it? He'd throw a fit.

Toji would honestly curse himself for even thinking he could fall asleep for more than 20 minutes before his son would toddle into the room, promptly disturbing his dad's nap by pouncing onto his stomach or latching onto his arm.

You, however, found it pretty funny.

"Shit's not anythin' to giggle about," Toji would grumble at you, his beauty sleep interrupted as you laughed, glaring at Megumi as he clambered onto his father's chest, bouncing his bottom up and down and beating on him with his tiny fists.

There have been multiple instances where Megumi's been in a good mood, though. You'll never forget the pictures you took of him napping, holding his big sister's hand in his smaller one as they both rested on top of Toji's large chest, his hands cradling both their heads while he snored.

Toji is so bad at not cursing in front of his kids. It's a horrible habit, but he can't seem to grasp the fact that 4-year-olds aren't supposed to be saying the same unsavory words that roll off his tongue so easily.

"Fuck!" he'd let it slip a few times when he accidentally hurt himself, and in typical kid fashion, they were always around to hear something they shouldn't.

"Fuk?" The fact that Megumi was the very picture of innocence while such a filthy word came tumbling out of his mouth (and paired with a smile!) rattled his father.

"What's 'fuck'?" Tsumiki asked, barely much older than her brother. Toji could only pray you didn't hear that.

"Wh— not so loud! Don't repeat that shi— that stuff. Yer gonna get me in trouble with Mama."

(you indeed did hear and he got his ass beat later)

Calls Megumi and Tsumiki 'rugrats.'

He didn't realize just how little time he'd have for romance with his kids around. Every single time Toji leans in to press his lips on his yours, no matter where you two may be, they come running from around the corner (apparently, they'd been watching for a while), darting between your legs and making fake retching noises as they giggle at the scowl on their dad's face.

Toji's the kind of dad to lose one kid in the store, turn around to ask the other kid where their sibling went, only to find them both gone LMFAO.

Stiffens up when he hears an "I love you," or even when he receives a hug from either one of his children. Hugs take some coaxing from you, but he doesn't dislike them (he'd never admit it, what with his tough guy persona, but Toji's kids make him so soft inside.)

Nickelodeon owes the "fans" an apology...

I'm only saying this because apparently it's the 45th anniversary and Nickelodeon has been hiding some sneaky crap that they still haven't addressed, even after the documentary has come out. Dirty Dan gave a fake apology that sounded scripted, but that's not what we want. We want Nickelodeon, a well known CHILDREN'S network, to apologize for the most perverted, fetishy shows in existence, and also putting child actors at risk for over 20 years! Dirty Dan Schneider was working for that network since the 90s and he came out with a fake apology right after the documentary came out. We just want Dan Schneider to be IN PRISON, with John Kricfalusi, Chris Savino, James Charles, and Colleen Ballinger.

Nickelodeon needs to apologize by having a restriction against hiring children for live action shows, and also make a public announcement and apologize to all the kids who were involved in the shows, and also the fans. Apologize for putting the most fetishy, disgusting content in shows for a children's network, and also get rid of everything that isn't suitable. Not just the Dirty Dan shows, but also some of the cartoons (Like Ren & Stimpy and Loud House) should be banned as well. It's sickening that Nickelodeon even allowed that stuff in the first place. I think the Dan Schneider stuff is the worst, though. Also, inform people that you will no longer hire minors for live action shows, if you make any at all. I think Nickelodeon should have a restriction against being allowed to make live action shows after all they've done. Last of all, there are other changes that need to be made! Now that the perverted stuff is gone, it's time to bring back the shows that were more suitable for kids.

Early SpongeBob episodes were amazing, but there's others I hope Nickelodoen should bring back too;

CatDog (even though it had some subtle dirty jokes, and some episodes got a bit too heavy, it had some good messages. It was also ahead of its time)

Doug (It was made by Jim Jinkins, same guy who worked on Pinky Dinky Do so of course it's family friendly)

Rugrats (Some things didn't age well, but at least it was better than Dirty Dan's stuff)

Robot & Monster (It was weird at times but mostly family friendly)

Harvey Beaks (This show was literally so cute and the episode I watched had a decent mesage)

The Wild Thornberries (Extremely ahead of its time, I heard form someone on YouTube that they did a better job teaching about other cultures than Disney did).

Hey Arnold (I think some episodes get a bit too heavy, and the show can sometimes be straight up sad, but it's relatable and teaches serious issues)

Invader Zim (I know this one was dark and not the best for kids, but at least it's entertaining and not fetishy)

SpongeBob Squarepants, seasons 1 and 2 (it was way more family friendly back then)

So yeah, Nickelodeon! That's only 8 shows listed! You should be able to play them if you remove the Loud house, Ren & Stimpy, and EVERYTHING that has Dan Schneider's name credited. And like I said, NO MORE LIVE ACTION SHOWS PLEASE!

oooooh that sounds so fun and cute!! Since it seems like you meant one guy, I’ll do one dude, but a longer post! Usually that’s my form, one person gets a longer post whereas multiple get shorter segments… however long it takes me to adhere to that. Because I have no self control. Anyway, my man of choice for this ended up being Grusha, because some nice and warm fluff should melt that frosty exterior.

And on the romance and found family thing, you are speaking my language fluently, you’re talking to a guy who worships those things in fan content. You can’t!! Go wrong with it!!

Soft as Snow

Grusha x Intimidating Male Reader (who has a kid!)

So. In your relationship Grusha might be a bit uh.

❄️ — Grusha is not a kids guy. Not at all. He’s the literal opposite of sunshine and rainbows. But hosting arguably the most intense and therefore exciting out of Paldea’s gym matches and spending so much time in a snow-covered mountain that is, realistically, so much fun for a kid to go to, he sees a lot of kids. Usually glued to their parents, which he’s grateful for, because rounding up some kid who runs off is about the last thing you can expect him to do successfully. So all in all, he limits his interactions with kids as much as humanly possible, but understands his job puts him around them a lot.

❄️ — A frequent culprit of drawing in rugrats he’d really rather not interact with would be the Cetoddles he looks after. He supposes he can’t blame the kids, they’re pretty cute and definitely not something you see anywhere but the mountain. And that’s exactly what gets him awkwardly interacting with some unknown little girl when he’d rather be doing anything else.

❄️ — A little girl had come to look at one Cetoddle, and with no parents in sight, he had to stay near. So, sighing, he stuffs his hands in his pockets and walks over, making the Cetoddle chirp excitedly when it sees him. He clears his throat and makes some horribly awkward attempts at small talk at this random child, no older than seven, who is just staring at him so intently now.

❄️ — “You, uh… like Cetoddle? Yeah… um. I think he likes you,” he tries, but he’s no… well, any other gym leader, even Larry, would be better at entertaining some random child while phoning the league staff on site that some unsupervised kid is running around.

❄️ — But he never actually has to make that call, because you run up shortly after he hesitantly approaches, frantically calling your daughter’s name. Like good lord, she is so fast. You blink once and she’s gone. You’re pretty fit, but even now you’re sweating profusely from all the times she’s bolted off on you.

❄️ — Grusha just stares at you as you approach, bug-eyed and wondering how the earth didn’t literally rumble as you ran up. Because holy shit, you’re massive. Legitimately built like an Ursaring and for a second he fears for his life and regrets ever approaching this kid thinking she was lost, because he could swear at the speed a guy who looks like you is approaching, you’re about to bite his head off for getting near her. Once again, interacting with kids proves more trouble than it’s worth, considering he’s so sure this is going to genuinely cost him his life. People get rash when it comes to their kids, understandably.

❄️ — But instead, you look at him, then at your daughter and immediately fall into bowing your head muttering thanks and apologies. “Oh, hey, I’m so sorry, she can be so fast when she wants to, I hope she wasn’t pestering you and your Pokemon for too long!”

❄️ — While you’re gently chiding your daughter for running off and imposing on a stranger, he looks from her to you. Then to her. Then to you. She’s not even, like, a quarter of your size. Being a former athlete, he’s seen some built dudes, but you’re giant and he’s still taken aback by how different your attitude was compared to your appearance and how doting you clearly are over your daughter. (A big heart AND nice body? Grusha isn’t even aware of how many of his boxes you tick because he’s just never thought about those things since his accident.)

❄️ — He clears his throat, scratching at the back of his neck awkwardly. “Uh. No problem. She wasn’t causing any trouble.”

❄️ — Both of you awkwardly mumble out some small talk (Grusha really isn’t one for talking and you’re kind of struggling to hold up the conversation), but when he mentions he’s got to get back to the Gym, you’re shocked. Oh! He’s the gym leader?! THE retired snowboarding prodigy?

❄️ — Turns out you and your daughter had just moved to Paldea, and to warm up to your new home, you’re taking her to see a few of the Ten Sights of Paldea. She ran off when she saw the Cetoddle on their hike, though, and you’re pretty surprised you just kind of bumbled into a pretty famous trainer who you’ve seen in a lot of informative pamphlets and ads for the region. It also makes you increasingly apologetic for your daughter imposing on him because he definitely has a job to do, and shouldn’t be pulled away from it.

❄️ — The conversation doesn’t last much longer, and you part ways shortly after. Grusha doesn’t even realize how attractive you are to him, you’ve got his heart thumping but he doesn’t even consider feelings for someone being a reason why. He’s just sort of resigned himself to be alone. But deep down, seeing a man so attractive (like phew. you are FIT.) be so caring and soft is actually really resonating with him. Basically, you’re a type he doesn’t even know he has.

❄️ — He’s a bit surprised when he sees you and your daughter again after a week or two, back on Glaseado. You wave and give him just the sweetest, happiest greeting when you meet again and sheepishly explain that your daughter became fascinated with the local Ice-type Pokemon and had been begging to go out and see them again. (He’s not sure if he can imagine that child emoting. His interactions with her, including now, all she’s done is hug your side and stare blankly at him.)

❄️ — But you’ve done something rare, and like most of his feelings, Grusha doesn’t realize it—you’ve struck a chord with him somehow and he’s too much of a die hard, stubborn loner to understand why. So when you meet for the second time he awkwardly offers to let you and your daughter meet the local Cetoddle pod that he watches over a lot.

❄️ — It’s cute. Seeing someone of your towering stature playing with the Cetoddles, who somehow don’t fear you at all despite how intimidating you are. They’re crazy about you, probably because they see how your daughter interacts with you and just flock to your parental nature. That and your daughter herself just having a good time while you laugh with her, sometimes throwing halfhearted snowballs because you know if you actually tried to could hurt someone with one, and she mostly just wants to pelt you with them than get hit herself. (Kids)

❄️ — The whole time, Grusha’s watching, not even aware of how smitten he is. But someone else is, because after a bit he’s startled by something shaking violently on his poke ball belt, and then with a crack! and no other warning out comes his Altaria, which grabs his scarf in its talons and drags him the hell over to you. When it shoves the flustered Grusha your way, it lands and begins preening itself, instantly capturing your daughter’s attention. (Because what kid wouldn’t want to pet the fluffy cloud bird? Altaria’s cute, and it knows it.)

❄️ — While Grusha’s giving his dirty traitor of a Pokemon the stink eye, you just give this warm and hearty laugh that has his heart doing flips all over again, and pat Altaria on the head. “Aw, this is a friendly one! Isn’t it pretty?” (To which your daughter vigorously nods.)

❄️ — “Uh, yeah, sorry…” he glares at it, and out of the corner of its eye Altaria glares back. “She’s usually not like this. I don’t know what her issue is.”

❄️ — “Haha, it’s no problem!”

❄️ — Then silence. And silence. …And silence. Grusha’s out of things to say, which didn’t take long at all. You cough. He clears his throat. The both of you watch your daughter and his Pokemon play in the snow. He’s only just now realizing how strangely desperately he wants to find something to say to you. And then, while playing with your daughter, Altaria gives him another Look.

❄️ — Oh. Oh, Altaria knew, too. Altaria was trying to bide him time. Well, he couldn’t let his Pokemon companion’s efforts go to waste, as embarrassing as it was…

❄️ — “So, uh…” he clears his throat. “Wanna… come back to the gym with me? Got a coffee machine there. Get something to warm you up.”

❄️ — Your eyes light up and it feels like his heart just got body-slammed. “Hey, that sounds great!”

❄️ — You call your daughter, and he calls his Pokemon, both running at the promise of some hot chocolate from the coffee machine. As you and him are both turning to head back in the direction of the gym, you completely miss a certain interaction nearby.

❄️ — Your daughter tugs on Grusha’s scarf, and when he looks down at her, she gives an unsettlingly blank stare as she studies his face. Finally, as if it’s a complex equation she just solved, she happily announces: “You’re nice.”

❄️ — Oh, uh… thanks? Those are the words Grusha wants to say, at least, but your daughter keeps going with a genuine verbal gut-punch.

❄️ — “I think you and my daddy should get married.”

❄️ — Kids say the darndest things, huh? (You exchange numbers by the end of the day, and who knows… maybe one of you will follow your daughter’s advice some day. But definitely not today. Grusha has to go crawl into the void and die of embarrassment first.)

(4/10) Teenager and Young adult Ulla -Part 4

Oh no, I had delayed a lot and I had distracted too much, any way, shorter and faster ~

< Before

(Hahaha, me having random thoughts about Ulf and Ulla having a similar friends group to the Rugrats, Don would be playing Angelica's role but doesnt work because she is not an spoiled evil brat)

1.- Let's skip the subplot about how now in the school it looks like Ulf is too invested on getting way much more study time, and for the surprise, he isn't only researching whatever needs to get the homework done, but she's going with his own investigation about what is right and what is wrong at getting siblings separated or united, as he used to be with his twin sister.

2.- And that's how he develops a kind of obsession, or maybe a focus for a new specialty, about functional and dysfunctional families, siblings dynamics, information about twins is very little, and of course, at the Renaissance time they are living, he feels the hope about finding great philosophers and sciencists works

3. He finds interesting things, mostly documented siblings dynamics are about Greek mythology, Biblic texts, Grimm fairy tales, Prussian, Germanic , Roman and Baltic folklore, too little about twins, siblings with eternal mutual love, siblings killing each other out of envy, constant figth until they get a reconciliation, banned because of 1nc3st, total indifference form each other life, a patriotic feeling from sharing a root.

4.- He needs more, so, new tactic, interviews to all the neighborhood, more domestic perspective, is this a bad idea? what would be the worst? all the town gossiping on his back about how he wants to push his spoon on private lives? putting salt on family wounds?

Did I said I was going to skip the subplot and then say it anyway? Sorry my bad XD

5.- The friends of the group noticed how Ulf stopped hanging out with them, and how Ulla tried to make Donnie join the friends group, but even like this, Don doesn't want to play their games.

6.- And now the friends group tell Ulla to make Ulf come back, why did he stopped hanging out anyway ? Ulla is not sure, they suggest that maybe he felt substituyed by Don and leaved, haha , that's not possible, he is unsubstituible, right?

7.- What was the last time they played together? Since meeting Don, but she felt like everything was like always, did she took his company for granted and didn't noticed she pushed him out of her quality time?

8.- She needs to find him and apologize, once in home, he is no where to be found, mom and dad say he was studying at the library, and after that, he would visit some neighbors for a research, she should stay at peace.

9.- So she waits while advancing at her own alchemy research, but feels at unease, what if he got in trouble?, before she gets a purse ready to search him out there, Don comes to her lab space to say she is bored and wanted to see what is that alchemy about.

10.- Ulla as she is, is happy to show Don, so they spend time with it, still unease, but kind of happy that Don finally shows more interest on her first interest, what if she doesn't ask again if refusing now? Ulf is smart and strong, he wouldn't put himself in danger.

11.- Don watches how Ulla time to time twitches her face with worry and then happyness again, and gets offended, what if Ulla in the deep doesn't want to teach her this alchemy stuff to avoid her from being smarter than her?

12.- Whatever, Don will keep her thoughts for herself, as she had done at all Mr Croix classes, feeling like this is not different, they think she is a lower life and a failure, younger kids from this town have more knowledge than her, a shame, but she has now a genius at home and she plans to squish the juice of these lemons.

13.- Ulla after running some samples joyfully with Don as her pupil, it's time to get her to do samples to test if she put attention, and yes, amazing tests, Ulla says that maybe tomorrow together they would read an "Hermes Trismegistus" book to try new reactions, but now, they should go outside.

14.- Don doesn't want to, she wants to spend more time learning more alchemy, so he asks Ulla to stay a continue, Ulla considers this, this is one of her favorite things, but the worry about Ulf cant be ignored, so she fights her desires with her 10 years old child mind, and takes a while, so Don gets more offended, and tells her to do whatever she wants, but she says it with kind of a sneer.

15.- So Ulla now worries about making Don angry and tries to apologize, as a pleaser she is kind of becoming, she offers Donnie to keep studying, but then it clicks in her mind , why is she giving more focus into stop Don to be angry at her for not spending time after she shopped spending time with Ulf for way too longer than this?

16.- What if Ulf is also angry at her? What if he doesn't like her as before ? Is she a bad sister for not noticing this before ? Is she an hypocrite for caring more for her new friend than her own twin brother who has been there for her his whole life ?

17.- Donella now is alarmed, Ulla started crying shortly after offering more time here, seems like she got sad for no reason, and now she tries to get her to not cry, shush her, offer a hug, whatever, whenever a child cried back in Ingvarr, two things could happen : 1) Adults hitting the child to stop crying and endure whatever is happening, 2) Friends of such children hitting the one who made them cry in vengeance.

18.- In this place, adults are more caring, what if Ulla's parents hit her and kick her out their house for making her daughter cry?, but she did nothing to hurt her, then why? Her parents enter to the room rushing asking what happened, while the mom, Holda, scoops Ulla from Donella to hug her instead , Don explains that nobody is injured, but Ulla got sad for no reason.

19.- That sounds suspicious, nobody cries for nothing, then the answer comes, Ulla says she wants Ulf, she misses him, her mom assures her he is coming back soon, and she shouldn't miss him, both had breakfast and school together, Ulla answer is not that, but they hadn't been together a longer while.

20.- Ulf is back home, is not even dark outside, barely sunset, leaves his things at the living room and goes to the lab space to see what's the fuss about, Ulla runs to him to hug him, she tells him she is sorry for stopping spending time with him

22.- He says she shouldn't worry, everything is okey, (and according to dad's plan), she shouldn't be sad (but he is sad too) he loves her as a sister, and each one needs time to spends apart, Ulla ask if isn't he angry at her, he is not, and she answers an "I love you brother "

23.- Donella just doesn't understand what the heck is happening in front of her, rich kids and their picky problems for their delicate minds, now that he is home, dinner should be served, so everyone should go and set the table

24.- Meanwhile they do this chore, Ulf tells how was his day, and he adds that during his research, he knocked at the door at three empty houses, maybe those are abandoned, so if Don stills wants to do as she said, there are three places, if she dropped that, is no problem too.

25.- Now dinner is served, and Don thanks him for the information, and she also thanks everyone for their hospitality and patience with her, Ulla also thanks her for being an amazing friend, the parents says she can stay more time, there is no need to rush, either way, she is welcome home anytime.

26.-Ulla adds she felt worry for Ulf, so, was everything all right on his research? He assures everything was fine, later he privately with his dad, would add that, all neighbors were kind, but when he went further away, some people where mean to him, and that scared him a little , but it was not big deal, dad offers to company him next time

27.- Ulf agrees and thanks him, he doesn't reveal this to his dad , but he also got some haunting histories about real life problems at the people interviewed talks, but he promised to keep quiet about those, confidentiality, a fine price for "free" knowledge, time to try a new adult skill , "keep secrets".

Happy New Year everybody.

2023 was exciting for my v-pet hobby.

Gigapets were the biggest highlight with the new Floppy Frog, which I kept alive for 100 days, even took him with me on my trip to Universal Studios in Hollywood. And then the Cryptids released in Fall, they were a lot of fun to run, though next time I run them, it will only be to care for one pet instead of all three. All five Digimon Colors arrived, and they've been very nice to play with, a real cool throwback to the originals, much more authentic than the DM20th, for better or for worse...

I also managed to complete the log on my old faithful translucent green Digimon, meaning i've successfully raised every Digimon that wasn't exclusive to the other devices. I've been shooting for that goal since 2021 I believe.

I got my first vintage Tamagotchi, though I also found out that the newer Tamagotchi models with the updated logos fixed my biggest issue with the re-releases, that being the screen contrast. It's still cool to say I have a working vintage Tamagotchi gen 2 though.

I got my Tamagotchi Uni and it may have been my best experience with modern Tamagotchi after the Tamagotchi ON failed to impress me very much. I also was able to successfully install a new bezel, and an the patchi on-off switch.

I found several episodes of the Tamagotchi anime in english, not nearly complete, but it's better than nothing.

I also found a very cool seller on e-bay with a ton of cheap listings, and I managed to get a Gyaoppi and Chuppi oddpet, as well as the Rugrats Gigapet from this seller.

And lastly I found the perfect V-pet storage bins, and decked them all out with Digimon, Tamagotchi, Gigapet, and various other v-pet themed stickers that I commissioned from the wonderful Stickerbunnies.

The only lowlight would be that my Digimon Vital Bracelet screen cracked, and I replaced it with a BE, but I wasn't too thrilled with the BE. In fact I am just over the whole vital bracelet thing in general

But it was mostly good stuff out of this hobby. Here's hoping for more exciting stuff in 2024.

Nick Mag Highlights - Nick Mag Presents: The Fairly OddParents (Spring 2004)

Welcome, one and all, back to Nick Mag Highlights! Today we’ll be checking out an installment of the Nick Mag Presents magazine that’s all about The Fairly OddParents, from Spring 2004!

For those unaware, Nick Mag Presents was a separate publication that ran alongside the usual Nickelodeon Magazine we all know and love. These books acted as a way for Nickelodeon to compile content from Nickelodeon Magazine that was based around a specific show or theme, and release it to stores. They would sometimes coincide with special episodes or Nickelodeon movies that were releasing around the same time. For example this issue we’re looking at today is based on a then-upcoming half hour The Fairly OddParents special, “The Big Superhero Wish!”.

Nick Mag Presents ran from 1999 to 2008, and presumably was a pretty successful venture for Nickelodeon. People I’ve talked to that didn’t have a Nickelodeon Magazine subscription still remember grabbing an issue or two of these compilations while they were out shopping with their parents. It was another way to deliver Nickelodeon Magazine goodness to people, and that’s quite alright by me!

But wait a minute, why am I covering a supposed compilation of old content, when I could just be covering the magazines the content came from? Well for one, someone requested it, and I’m a nice guy. Second, Nick Mag Presents was the way a lot of people experienced Nickelodeon Magazine and I think it’s fair to show it respect. And third, it’s not just a compilation of old content! Yes, there is new stuff to be found here, from comics that are way longer than the usual Nickelodeon Magazine fare, to exclusive articles and activities. There’s some particularly good stuff in this magazine, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Special Addendum

In my previous NMH post on Issue #150, I brought attention to a challenge Nickelodeon was hosting online and in-print to celebrate the 10th anniversary of SpongeBob SquarePants. Nickelodeon promised that if kids could triumph over each SpongeBob-themed puzzle they posted each month, they would earn the password to a “digital prize online”. Since I couldn’t find anything more regarding this contest and scans of 2009 Nickelodeon Magazine issues are scarce, I asked viewers for anything they knew about it, particularly that digital prize. 

And… apparently there was no prize! Yes, allegedly from a fan, Nickelodeon eventually stopped bringing up the prize in their issues, and presumably then the only reward for kids’ expertise over the SpongeBob puzzles would be a fleeting sense of accomplishment. Thanks a lot, Nickelodeon! I’m not sure what was a more disappointing celebration for SpongeBob’s 10th anniversary: this, or "Truth or Square".

Alrighty, are we good? Good. It’s super-hero time!

So, The Fairly OddParents, huh? Not much to say about it, really. Anyone reading this certainly already knows what it is! It’s an iconic show, being one of Nickelodeon’s longest running series ever, among the likes of SpongeBob SquarePants and Rugrats. That’s a tremendous accomplishment, and it’s definitely earned its place in the hearts of many fans. Even if its name has been sullied a bit by its infamously lackluster later seasons, Drake Bell-starring movies, and ridiculously bad live action reboot.

But forget about all that! This is 2004, baby! The show was on its fourth season and still pumping out veritable hits. Alongside the aforementioned “The Big Superhero Wish!” half hour special, we received “The Jimmy-Timmy Power Hour” in 2004, too! That might give you a better frame of reference for the kind of “average kid that no one understands” content we can expect from this issue. 

…Oh, right, the issue! Let’s get back on track. As you can see the offerings are a bit slimmer than your usual Nickelodeon Magazine. That’s understandable, and besides, what these books lack in celebrity interviews they make up for in extra-large comics! Since these books made their money largely through in-store purchases, they’re able to forgo most of the ad space and give us more of the good stuff. 

One thing I really like about these Presents issues is that they always start with an admittedly wordy but well-meaning intro to the issue and its content. For example, the Summer 2003 issue of Nick Mag Presents (also based on The Fairly OddParents) contains a spiel from Mr. Crocker featuring his usual comedic ramblings on the existence of fairies. 

Taking a look here, this issue’s intro features … uh, sorry, who is this? Some sort of comic book nerd I don’t remember ever being in the show? Well, whoever he is, he’s got a point! Here I am, nearly 20 years later, pointing to these magazines as the pinnacle of magazine entertainment. Cheers to you, comic book nerd!

Hey, this is really cool! All this behind-the-scenes info and concept art is a welcome surprise. Not sure what it has to do with superheroes per se, but you won’t hear me complaining. I know Butch Hartman is a bit of a polarizing figure these days, but it doesn’t make me any less satisfied to finally hear why the main characters wore those stretchy shoe-pants combo clothes.

This is a fun activity, and I could definitely see it getting the creative juices flowing for any kid looking to play superheroes and supervillains during recess. It also doubles as a (debatably) subtle way to introduce readers to the main villains of “The Big Superhero Wish!” and hype them up for the special’s premiere. Hey, I guess that kind of self-promotion is what we’re here for, right? You saw the cover!

I really think a lot of the people at the Nick Magazine office had a soft spot for the golden age of comics, what with articles like these and how The Comic Book section in their regular editions often contained references to the same era. If I’m right, then it’s cool to see people revitalizing parts of their childhood for a new generation. That’s some proper upcycling!

Now, recurring readers may remember that in the last NMH post, I briefly mentioned another issue of Nick Mag Presents themed around Avatar: The Last Airbender. I brought up that apparently the team behind it was full of avid Avatar fans who were passionate about the series. I bring this up because what’s especially cool is that in a similar vein, the writer behind this article on superhero sidekicks, Frank Pittarese, is a former editor for both DC and Marvel Comics! It's always nice to see when Nickelodeon was able to put the right people in the right place when it came to their magazine content.

Ah, alright, alright, this is what you’re really here for, isn’t it? Comics were understandably the main selling point of these books, to the point that Nickelodeon even ran a couple of “All-Comic Special” versions of Nick Mag Presents that were completely made up of that sort of wonderful paneled content. I’m not really one for covering comics beat-by-beat on this blog. I think if they’re really worth reading, you’re better off reading them yourself! It’s not like they’re long, and I’m certain it’d be more entertaining than any summary I could throw at you. But hey, I’ll try my best! It’s not like I could just skip over more than half the book, could I?

Fun fact: There’s a coloring error on page 10. See if you can spot it!

This first one, understandably based on The Fairly OddParents, is a pretty straightforward affair. It’s still longer than anything you’d get in your usual Nickelodeon Magazine, though! Not to mention it’s also pretty authentic to the show’s heyday, which isn’t too surprising given that the team behind the comic has its fair share of The Fairly OddParents crewmembers in it. The writer, Jack Thomas, has 55 writing credits on the show to his name! That’s nearly as many episodes of the show as there are in the first four seasons combined. 

I’ve gotta be honest here when it comes to my critique of a nearly 20-year old comic based on an episode of a children’s television show, though: the story doesn’t make much sense! At least, in the context of “The Big Superhero Wish!” anyway. 

The episode has Timmy making a few ill-conceived wishes that end up creating a league of supervillains out of his greatest enemies, led by Nega-Chin, the arch enemy of his favorite comic book hero, the Crimson Chin. It’s a good episode with some pretty funny bits, but more importantly, it has an ending that wraps up everything and returns all of Timmy’s enemies back to their regular selves. In other words, it sounds like it’d be hard to make a promotional comic based on it! The story doesn't really have any downtime to insert a plot line that could’ve happened but the audience just didn’t see. And it’s not like they could have simply retold the episode, this whole book is for the sake of getting you to tune in! So, with all that in mind, I guess I can’t be too harsh on the odd premise, which now apparently has all the supervillains as sentient beings in a comic book? Did Timmy’s wishes mess with the fabric of reality so badly that it resulted in turning his teacher, babysitter, and school bully into canonical characters of The Crimson Chin storyline?

Anyway, hopefully you’ve been reading along! Basically the league of villains are trying to hunt down the Crimson Chin by going into different issues of his comic from throughout history. Each Chin represents a different era and are differently designed to pander to whatever was popular in the market at the time similar to the constant re-envisionings superheroes have had throughout the years, particularly Batman (I think, at least. I’m not really a comics guy).

These Crimson Chin from different eras actually first appeared in an episode of The Fairly OddParents, “The Crimson Chin Meets Mighty Mom and Dyno Dad”. I guess the comic crew really had to use everything they could to get an 8-page comic out of this.

One or two inconsequential gripes aside, I still think this comic is a solid start to the book! It’s got the humor down (I found the line about a lawsuit on page 14 here particularly funny), and the satisfying colorful art that made the show so recognizable. Nice work!

Not really a fan of this section. There’s giving kids drawing tips and then there’s just telling them arbitrary rules on what they can and can’t draw. I get that Hartman’s trying to hearken back to the comic heroes he read as a kid that all had the same chiseled body type (clearly he has fun drawing them) but the way this is all framed is a bit too opinionated for me.

I just noticed this now as I’m uploading the image: Check out the cool designs they gave to all the panel borders! That’s a neat detail.

Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius is one of my all-time Nickelodeon favorites, so you could imagine I was pretty happy to see a comic based on the show make an appearance here! It has a fun concept and does stuff the show most likely couldn’t have, like shifting the artstyle to make it look like an old comic book when Sheen transports himself into one. 

My only criticism is that the art just looks the slightest bit… off. Alright, more specifically: Sheen looks off. Jimmy looks fine enough, but Sheen just looks weird! For some reason this show didn't seem to have any standardized 2D designs for its characters, which led to every Jimmy Neutron comic in Nick Magazine looking vastly different. And it looks like Sheen drew the short end of the stick here. Don't see what I mean? Here's a collage of my favorite Sheen faces from this comic:

Ultra Lord. Not even once.

Hey, look at the bottom corners! You can see the comic pages actually overlapping the magazine’s page numbers and casting a shadow, as if the comic book is open and lying on your magazine! Lots of cool details in this one.

I'd recommend fans just read this one themselves. It's ten pages long, pretty funny, and does a lot of cool stuff with the idea that Sheen knows he's in a comic, like grabbing onto his own speech bubbles and jumping between the different panels. 

Also, this could just be a "me" thing, but am I the only one who thought Ultra Lord was supposed to be a parody of Japanese kids' shows like Ultraman and Power Rangers? If they were trying to go for a "Space Age"-look for his design then they went a little too far with the intricate outfit and bright color, cause it really just gives me Super Sentai vibes more than anything. I bring this up because here Ultra Lord is portrayed as a '60s American comic book superhero, which I find odd. Again, maybe it’s just me.

Next up, it’s a comic based on the Rugrats sequel series, All Grown Up. I never really watched the show as a kid, I always wish they’d just put on Rugrats instead. Regardless, this comic’s alright, it’s about Tommy’s brother Dil becoming popular for doing dares, which leads to him realizing that fame isn’t worth risking your wellbeing over. A fine enough premise for a fine enough comic. One question does come to mind, though: What does this have to do with superheroes? Or comics, for that matter. I guess Dil does wear a cape and starts going by the nickname “Dil-Devil”, but that's like calling Evel Knievel a superhero. 

But yeah, if All Grown Up is your thing, you can check out the comic if it sounds like it’s worth your while.

This ad here shows how Nick Mag Presents fit into the Nickelodeon Magazine subscription system. Essentially, they acted as bonuses to entice potential subscribers (without mentioning that these issues reused a lot of content originally from Nickelodeon Magazine, of course). I don’t think you could specifically get a Nick Mag Presents subscription, so getting them as bonuses for your subscription or buying them at the store were your only ways of procuring them. 

I really wish more of these had scans, particularly the “official movie magazines” for The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie and Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. Not to get preachy, but if you think you’ve got any issues of Nick Mag Presents or Nickelodeon Magazine not already available (there’s a spreadsheet to check, courtesy of @NickMagProject on Twitter), I implore you to scan and upload them. Come to think of it, I guess that goes for any old magazine you have really, if it’s convenient for you. You might just be saving a copy of somebody’s cherished childhood memory. 

Back to The FairlyOddParents, with another tale all about comic books and superheroes. Go figure. Similar to the Jimmy Neutron comic from earlier, this one has Timmy going into the world of one of his new comic books to find out how the story ends. I like the art here, with the lineart done by C.H. Greenblatt (creator of Chowder and Harvey Beaks). It’s very similar to the show, but still stylized, looking a little more sharp and exaggerated than usual. 

Oh hey! There’s that comic book nerd from earlier! Guess that explains that.

And when Timmy enters the comic world, the style switches over to art done by Sergio Aragones, a longtime artist for MAD Magazine. I only went through about two or three issues of MAD from my local library as a kid, and I still recognized this guy’s art when I saw it here. I think that definitely speaks to how distinct his style is and how often his work appeared in those issues. 

Alright, back to business! The comic itself is fine, there’s a few good jokes. Greenblatt and Aragones’s art really picks up the slack while the entertainment value wanes a bit. Eh, maybe I’m just experiencing comic fatigue. Oh well, you read it and be the judge.

Now this is properly historic! I didn’t imagine there’d be an ad for a whole new channel in here, and it’s pretty funny, too. 

Nicktoons had only been around for nine months or so when this ad was printed, which is pretty interesting to see as someone who can hardly remember a time without the channel’s existence. Anyone fortunate enough to have both channels was treated to two times the Nickelodeon, meaning there was usually always something good to watch. 

It’s funny though how in hindsight this is more like Nickelodeon advertising their new funeral parlor, considering how often they used Nicktoons as a dumping ground for their lesser-performing shows to make room for more SpongeBob SquarePants. It’s happened to My Life as a Teenage Robot, El Tigre, Catscratch, and even more recent shows like Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, to name a few. 

It’d be cool if Nickelodeon used Nicktoons more like how Cartoon Network used their spinoff channel Boomerang: As a way to rerun their older shows for new generations to see. I always wished as a kid I could’ve watched some of Nick’s older stuff like Rocko’s Modern Life or Hey Arnold!. I always heard they were great, but unless I was willing to go out on a limb and buy a VHS of a show I had never seen, I was out of luck. Oh well.

Yeesh, this got bitter fast, didn't it? It's friggin' Invader Zim wearing a clown wig. I must still not be over what happened to Making Fiends…

The last few comics coming up are of the smaller, 2-page spread variety. So if any of them are originally from Nickelodeon Magazine, I’d bet on these last three. It’s a cute story, and I kinda love these little day-in-the life moments these comics tend to depict. The art of SpongeBob and Patrick here was done by longtime cartoon artist Shern Cohen (who actually did the cover art of the last Nickelodeon Magazine issue I checked out, #150!). The art for Mermaid Man’s comic was done by Ramona Fradon, a comic artist most well known for her art on Aquaman! Go figure, right? That is so cool.

So, what is ChalkZone considered nowadays? Cult classic or just a regular classic? Yeah, we probably won’t be seeing a reboot anytime soon but I’m pretty sure it was decently popular. I definitely remember watching it, but I’m hard-pressed to remember much about it outside of its surprisingly epic theme song. It’s definitely one of, if not the most relevant chalk-centric production in recent history. 

Last comic of the evening, everyone! Good thing too, I think my eyes are starting to turn square from all the panels. Fittingly enough we’re rounding things off with another Fairly OddParents adventure, albeit one that’s very clearly not a superhero-related affair. But hey, who’s counting?

I still really like the dynamic Cosmo and Wanda used to have back in these earlier parts of the series’s history. Cosmo has always been the more carefree of the two, but Wanda wasn’t above a bit of goofing off and playing with her magic powers either. Seeing them have fun together as a pair made their relationship really cute and believable.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this comic was originally an episode concept they couldn’t flesh out to a full 11 minutes. Not the worst idea for getting the most you can out of your work!

And that just about wraps up this issue of Nick Mag Presents! I may have kind of sort of skipped over a crossword puzzle after that last comic but… if you’re really so inclined, be my guest.

a day at the castle [ a lord titan au fic with some brotherly stuff|this is before bo and wen [aka the bloodmoon twins of the au]]

It's a nice and calm morning, lord titan wakes up and goes to make breakfast. while he does have servants to do stuff, it's early in the morning and he doesn't want his servants to waste their energy on breakfast. plus he always likes giving kip his breakfast, mainly just cause of the bright warm smile kip always has when he does.

once breakfast was prepped and ready, he went to kips room to wake up him. he softly nuzzles kip, puffing a bit of warm air in kips face. kip woke up with a soft yawn, sleepily rubbing his eye. he then looks at lord titan with a smile. "morning big brother" kip said happily in a happy morning voice, lord titan replied, "good morning kip, it's time for breakfast. I made your favorite". kip softly gasped and asked "strawberry waffles?!?" he also starts flapping his sleeves/happy stimming.

lord titan nods with a soft warm smile, which makes kip happily clap and grab his plush lamb "cmon prince candy, let's go get breakfast" he says to the lamb before jumping off his bed and rushing out of the room. lord titan follows and they sit and have breakfast together.

lord titan plays with kip for a bit before going off to work, then kip has free reign of the whole castle. he runs around, colors, and draws while watching tv. his favorite shows are looney tunes and rugrats, which is why lord titan always makes sure that the tv has some prerecorded episodes of both shows for kip to watch. kip also has a playroom all to himself. he has plushies, video games, puzzles and so much more. he has a servant make him lunch, which is the same every time. a pb+j with cheese curls on the side, with a super frosted cookie for dessert [super frosted means a but load of frosting].

once lord titan is available/comes home lord titan lets a servant cook dinner, so he can spend the most time with kip, he watches tv with kip, or draws with him. basically, anything kip wants, lord titan will deliver/do. mainly cause he feels bad for being gone doing work. once dinner is done, kip and lord titan sit on the couch eating dinner. once they're finished they cuddle up and watch a movie. they interchange who gets to pick the movie every night so they don't have repeat movies.

finally, once kip lets out a soft yawn. lord titan picks him up gently, making sure prince candy is with him. he then brings kip to bed, tucking him in and giving him a soft goodnight kiss on the forehead.

"good night kip, my sweet little lamb," he said softly and happily.

"good night, my best big brother ever," kip said in reply.

as lord titan leaves he turns on kips star projector and leaves the door open a crack, then goes to his room. which is right across from kips, leaving his door open a crack too. he then turns on his night light lamp and turns off the light. finally, getting in bed, cuddling up with his pastel brown-colored teddy bear named choco bear. drifting off to sleep, ready to face a new day.

i hope ya'll enjoyed this lil fluff fic, i just felt like getting this out. if i still have motivation i may tackle the next installment of "bloodmoon but no harvest"

Well, today has sucked. Restless violent kitty, sister mad as hell at me, cranky parents, a truly terrible dinner that I could barely force myself to finish, and I didn't get quite enough stuff done. So, I shall watch Rugrats in hopes Tommy Pickles cures me of my sorrows.

I have returned and, as I have finally come back to my house after a ten-day rollercoaster, here is a bit of an update on how things are going for me.

After a week and a half of not looking at my computer and spending every morning with my hand shoved inside of a triceratops puppet for the enjoyment of 50+ little rugrat children, I am exhausted yet excited to be back to writing and everything that comes with it. Our church has very limited wifi and, while I love that place, that was the worst week to not have air conditioning in parts of the building. When Friday came around and brought 105-degree heat (with humidity), I was grateful to be stationed inside and not out in sports or the craft tent this year. I'll take shoving my hand in a dinosaur puppet or handing out toys to kids over being outside in that heat any day! Spending the week at church the way I did was fun and I enjoyed seeing all the kids so happy and having fun.

The last two days, on the other hand, have been particularly hard for me as I broke one of my front teeth playing with my sister's husky Monday night and found out the hard way that my job doesn't have a dental plan. Now, I have to wait until I can get onto the state's dental plan and hope that it will cover a crown or something, but in the meantime, I've been really struggling with how it looks as I've only recently gotten into a good mental space with my appearance and this has thrown me off a lot. Thankfully, when I talk, you can't really tell as my upper lip covers it for the most part, but I've got this little pointy shard of a tooth where it used to be, I hate how it feels, and it's made me immensely self-conscious. I have my dad's family's terrible teeth and I knew this, but I wasn't prepared for this in the slightest. I'm hoping to someday have dental implants to fix the issues that come with my family's genetics and make me feel more comfortable with my smile again, but for now, I just have to wait and see what can be done.

Anyway, on a different note, you may have noticed that I lowered the chapter count for Camp Wanamaker to 10 instead of 11 and, while I tried so hard to come up with ideas for the murder mystery chapter in my minimal free time throughout the week, nothing was working and I ended up just getting more frustrated with it than anything. As much as I love the vibe of a murder mystery event, I just could not come up with any solid ideas for it and ended up tossing it out. I will still end up mentioning little details about it and stuff, but as for that chapter, I have thrown it into my little trash bin and am moving on to the next part. I really want to keep the continuity of the story in line with current days and, while I hadn't had the time to write last week because of the church program or the last few days because of the whole situation with my tooth, I am still aiming to finish everything by the last week of August as it is the week that surrounds Vivien's birthday. That has been a goal of mine since the beginning and I want to hold myself to it as much as I can.

Even if I can't make that date and it goes into September a little bit, that's fine. I'm still taking things as they get thrown at me (literally, in some cases lmao) and working through the stress of everything. I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things soon and, hopefully, everything will be alright. Anyway, I'll leave you with that and I hope that your week is better than mine has been so far haha

Year Four: A Lookback

I hope you’re all slipping into safe, warm and cheerful holiday environments. It’s a time of year to gather and rejoice, no matter who you are or how you do it. I’ve got a family reunion coming up in January, so I’ll be happy with myself if I get the Shrek review and a SpongeComs out by the end of the year. But enough about the future, here’s where I think back on Year Four.

Overall, I’m very proud of the videos I put out this year. Looking back on my early SpongeBob rankings and first year of series reviews, I get a little nauseous. The music’s too loud, the screencaps vary from good to potato, and I’m not a clever clog about certain things. I’m keeping them up and I see no point in remaking them, but I hope people watching my stuff in order will hit Year Two, and see it’s a big improvement in every area.

Other than just making the reviews better, I hope every year I’m on YouTube, I do something to make my content more distinct and enjoyable. In Year Three, I created my channel logo, and in Year Five, I’m going to start reviewing movie franchises more regularly. Yes, the Shrek video will be Review 59. But there’s a lot of little things that happened throughout Year Four that I hope have paved the way for a brighter future as EmployeeAMillion, and for my Employee-keteers.

Editing

Starting with the Foster’s review, I switched from iMovie to VN as my primary editing software. iMovie is so mindnumbingly basic that I had to use Cute CUT and Videoleap as secondary editing softwares just for effects. The “Where in the World” swooping shot in my Wild Thornberrys review is impossible to achieve in iMovie by itself, but it’s possible in Cute CUT, and it’s incredibly easy in VN. I’m amazed at how much they let you use for free. Dozens of transition options, animation for photos and videos alike, blending varieties that rival Medibang Paint (which I use for photo edits instead of Photoshop, get bent Adobe). If you’re interested in video production and only have an iPad, VN is my only recommendation.

The only crippling issue I’ve noticed is that the storage capacity is very low on free, but that’s how they get you to pay for it. As for the gigabytes of content I should be backing up, I just delete them from the photo album after a while and pray to the highest heavens that someone in the Netherlands is saving my videos. If my channel gets deleted in 5 minutes……at least I’ll have the experience and resources to start over successfully.

Scheduling

During Years 2 and 3, I used a roulette wheel to pick the next show on my agenda in a linear order, starting with Dexter’s Lab. Before then, I’d just review whatever I wanted. But now I’m more cautious about overdoing a certain network or time period. For instance, in Year 3, I covered 3 NickToons in a row across 4 videos (Avatar, modern FOP and Hey Arnold!). If someone subbed to me for Cartoon Network content, I bet they must’ve felt ignored, so for Year Four, I put together a more organised agenda. I planned the year out in advance with:

-3 NickToon reivews

-3 Cartoon Network reviews

-3 Disney TVA reviews

-3 miscellanious reviews (FOX, Hub, Warner Bros., etc)

-plus the mandatory stuff, Pokémon, ponies and a retro oddity

-all with corresponding dedicated roulette wheels

Additionally, I reviewed the Nick, CN, Disney and misc stuff in a row, before moving onto the next row (in a different order based on when I finish the show, but I bet I’m boring you now.)

The point is, for Year Five, I’m avoiding a potential problem I had this year, focusing too hard on the 2000s, by splitting the rows into decades. My first NickToon and Disney reviews next year (Rugrats and Quack Pack), are for shows that premiered in the 1990s. While Billy & Mandy as we know it premiered in 2001, it’s a big part of the Cartoon Cartoons brand associated with the 90s. And hey, the pilot premiered as a sneak peak on December 27th 1999, so you could ever-so-technically consider it a 90s cartoon. But I digress.

I’ll move through the decades as the year goes on, but I’m excited to get to the 2010s, as it’s not one I’ve visited on the channel very often outside of MLP:FiM, and some the decade’s earlier shows are old enough to be getting nostalgic for animation fans. I don’t know what I’ll cover yet, but it likely won’t be the big ones like Adventure Time and Gravity Falls. I’m more interested in bringing attention to the more niche stuff with smaller fan circles for this decade.

Saturation

In the past, my channel has had a mix of formats and subseries. Year Two was full of a VS series I called “The Show Down”, mainly made to fill the void left after PieGuy and Monsters Review’s “RE-Cast” ended. But I think there’s a reason both these shows have only lasted 2 years. My big Fantastic Voyage lookback was one of the most successful videos on the channel this year, being the 2nd-most viewed behind Dan Vs. The following Show Down is still resting in triple digit viewership. So I ended the series with the Star Wars Show Down, the 21st episode, and conveniently screened it on my 21st birthday. If I’m going to do multi-episode reviews, I’m no longer going to use the Show Down branding, I’m always going to cover more than two, and I won’t make pitting them against each other the emphasis. The C.A.K.E.D. review is a good example of how episode reviews of that variety will look going forward.

But I know what you’re going to ask- What about the Clone video?

I’m still planning on releasing it in Summer, but it’s run into some scripting problems. I’ve watched episodes and written up my final drafts on them, only to scrap them completely. I can’t cover every clone episode in the world, I’m limiting myself to 50. But choosing those 50 is the tricky part. I want to cover as many shows as I can as respectfully as I can this time, but also want to balance them out with instances [clone episode of weird forgotten French show from 1994] to keep the video informative. I like that I introduced a lot of people to Microcops last time, and always hope that my reviews can create new fans of something. So top priority for the clone episode is finding random, obscure shows, which is taking longer than I hoped.

I’m reminded of when Caddicarus used to have at least 5 other recurring series at a time, and completely understand why he retired all of them due to burnout. He slowly got better at his main show after that, and since reinventing its format, he’s been my favourite YouTuber. Of all time. It’s a valuable lesson to focus on quality, and making the kind of series you’re proudest of, that I’ve taken to heart.

The Employment Line

I’m out of education. After 3 years of studying to be a 3D animator (which is where my new 3D logo came from), I’ve grown disillusioned with the currently emotionally draining 3D animation industry, down here and abroad. I didn’t like having dozens of hours of work go to waste for retakes, I didn’t like having lecturers come in to tell us we won’t have families, and I certainly didn’t like hearing about the abuse professional VFX artists on blockbuster movies have gone through in recent years. I’m happy to have met friendly people at university who were accommodating to my needs, but I needed to get out of dodge before I spend the rest of my life in a digital sweatshop.

I may never be an animator, and I’d be surprised if I ever got hired to write for an animated show, but I’m still making money doing what I love. I’ve monetised my channel and put a few ads on my two most recent videos. So far, there are no mid-roll ads, and I never plan to add any. YouTube currently pays in peanuts, but I’m working a part time café job to make some money on the side. Next year, I hope to start working at the café full time.

I hardly share much about my personal life, but I thought you ought to know why there’s a higher chance of seeing ads on my newer videos than my older ones. I don’t do YouTube for a living, but I want it to be worth something.

TL:DR

VN rocks, I’ve improved my release order, slightly streamlined the content, and put the least annoying ads I could on the newest videos. This is the 4th day of Christmas, right? Well, if your true love is loaded and sends you the same things as every year, remember to give those calling birds a good home again.
