I’m not one to usually say much about discourse bc I can’t be fucked, but after a couple weeks of radio message drama after each race I have to point this out:

I think some of you need to remember the reality of drivers in the cockpit and why they are not always going to phrase things politely.

Every single driver goes through the same thing; They are lying down, crammed into a cockpit of an incredibly expensive car, traveling a couple hundred miles per hour relying on muscle memory to stop them putting it in a wall and making split second decisions and adjustments.

They are alone except for a single Radio line to their engineer who can only tell them very strict things so as to not give away tactics to other teams who are ALL listening for the slightest sliver of advantage. They have no outer perception of the race other than what they can see in their tiny mirrors, what is in front of them, and if they’re lucky, what they can spot on a screen for the fans.

They have absolutely no idea what is being discussed in the garage, what another driver is thinking, or if their teams have even seen the same things they are feeling. They often don’t even know what lap it is. When they ask their engineers something they need the answer to come within the next minute and a half because a single lap can make or break a race and they need to choose what lines they drive for approaches they take.

You combine all of those factors; the physical discomfort, the tunnel vision, the lack of situational awareness, the required response time and the fact EVERY driver is hot headed and stuck alone with an insurmountable amount of pressure, the shit that comes out of their mouth is not going to be eloquently tailored to sound passive and enquiring. It’s going to be blunt as shit. (This doesn’t excuse drivers who use slurs. There’s no excuse for behaving like that no matter the pressure)

That’s why Lewis doesn’t go “Bono, I think it would be better if you pitted me now to take advantage of the safety car, can you discuss that and get back to me” he says “you’ve screwed me here what are you doing” because in 1 minute and 30 seconds his chance to take advantage of that safety car may be gone and he needs to know what the plan is.

That’s why when George makes an enquiry to the team he doesn’t delicately ask them to discuss something with Lewis and see how everyone feels about maintaining a position to take advantage of DRS, he says “guys what the hell are you doing asking me to maintain when I’m about to be overtaken by my teammate” because all he can see is his own times, what the team want him to do, and the fact that for all he can see his teammate is about to overtake him and he needs to know what the reason for that is. He needs that answer immediately so he can adjust for it.

People have to accept that their faves do not act like angels on the comms and expecting otherwise is utterly unrealistic for what they’re doing. You’re not obligated to like anyone and if you don’t like their radio, fine, me too. But if you’re concocting a whole idea that a driver must be secretly trying to bring someone down because of a pissy maybe dramatic radio message about their teammate you’re forgetting the reality of what they’re doing. They’re allowed to be stressed and have bad days.

The things they say when calm and able to review the entirety of a situation matter much more, that’s where you see who they are.

a/n : this is just how i see a modern anakin. its kind of an add-on to boyfriend.

general hcs ( adaptational awareness )

anakin is some kind of scandinavian from shmi's side of the family and thats all he really cares about. his stance on his father and his full ancestry is "if he didn't want me then, i don't want him now" ( lies, we'll talk about the daddy issues later )

so shmi was probably born in a country thats similar to sweden or denmark and anakin probably spent his early years there. but by like 4 or 5 they moved from shmi’s home country to modern tatooine 

so like picture little blond haired, blue-eyed anakin, right? imagine he was homeschooled for like the majority of his life and he walks into school with a swedish accent and basic english skills

eventually, shmi saves up enough money and gets a really good opportunity to send anakin to a really good school in coruscant

shmi taught him how to cook, clean, some housekeeping skills

and he has even less friends, but he got along with his peer mentor, obi-wan, who was like on the verge of graduating and saw anakin as a surrogate brother

anakin definitely isnt emo until he’s in college, before college, i imagine him dressing like scott barringer, loose clothes, light colors, and he keeps his hair blond

this era of anakin defintely liked car shops and had a part time at a niche interests store ( think like, a bait shop ) to help his mom

he met padme in his junior year of high school, she was one of those alumni who were asked to come back to talk about the college experience to high schoolers

and anakin ( having zero filter ) asked for her number after the talk and she shot him down but still gave him her number.

then like, going into his college orientation, he was pissed off because his mom had remarried while he was away. but he was coming to terms with it and liking his step brother and his fiance.

i picture he shows up kind of fucked up looking. like his hair is growing out and the texture is off, his clothes are dark on the inside, light on the outside, and he’s listening to music on his headphones the whole time

and you see him sitting by himself, a little off from the engineering majors and fiddling with something in his hands and you walk over to him, in spite of your major and your nerves and sit next to him

instantly the headphones are off because his cool, tough guy front is still just a front, he was HOPING someone would talk to him 

and you guys hit it off, chatting away about everything and anything

even when you part ways and the orientation ends, he’s texting you randomly and oh my god, he thinks too fast for his thumbs

“hve you seen ovrdrive?” “wtff is that thing your ordered at ciplt? im picking up food fr obi and he hates when i bring spicey stuff” “hellp”

he moves in with doctoral candidate obi-wan for college and takes up a part time at a mechanic’s shop and another as an overnight security guard ( he just sleeps and works on assignments there )

he got his mom threepio, a golden retriever, but usually is playing with padmé’s border collie, artoo ( credit to this amazing fan art )

he asked out padme after he fixed her computer ( for funsies ) and didnt shut up about her the entire time they dated

anakin is clingy in relationships, literally would hold onto padmé’s bags while out in public so she wouldnt wander too far from him

and he just really liked the environment of padmé’s apartment, being around you, padmé, and sabé was just a really big comfort for him

his descent into becoming a metalhead mostly happened because one of his bosses suggested it to him

and slowly he started to enjoy it more and more

and his wardrobe got darker, developed an energy drink addiction, and he started letting you and padmé give him messy eyeliner

and it culminated when he asked you to help him box dye his hair and now theres a stain in his bathroom of a streak of black hair dye across the ceiling

the reason why anakin and padmé broke up was a healthy end because ani def got a little jealous and toxic and padmé had to sit him down and tell him it was for the best

and he resented her for a while, wouldn’t talk to her while at her apartment for a good month

but then he watched her burn food and he felt bad and ended up cooking something for her and they never spoke about it again

and he definitely liked you when you first met, even when he was dating padmé ( and the few flings he had after her )

he just made himself bury his feelings for a while by treating you like a best friend or little sister

hanging out with you when padmé took everyone on a lake house trip and was busy talking to others

his actual confession comes in the form of him making a really crappy bracelet at his work bench

yes, he literally set up a robotics station in his bedroom. he will literally invite you over and sound so excited to see you

only to focus and work for 8 hours with only two rockstars and his thrash metal playlist as sustenance

buzzinga and nerve are basically as i said if frankenstein made his monster for gay reasons. like rocky horror picture show but family friendly. i think i ship them a lot they would hve So much chemistry together and even their color palettes are opposites (orange + blue) with knurv having a little bit of orange on it.... hashtag cuteness

BUT BASICALLY. here are their main differences:

buzzinga is very extroverted and curious in a vocal way nd wants to know Everything about Everyone and always has something to say. its not very aware of how others perceive it (seen as a little intimidating and overbearing) and overall it just wants the best for others. really the number one guy to talk to about problems, even if it cant exactly help you. musically its not Confident in its abilities and rather plays just to be included and have fun with others, it enjoys being loud and dramatic. its instrument being a part of its body is a way to let others know what its capabilities and motives are, almost in a "you can trust me" way. it has grace when playing, but its a result of it being lost in its own little musical world

knurv is quiet and very much so an eavesdropper + spier. unapologetically. it watches people sleep to get to know them better, somehow. its very aware that others perceive it as timid and innocent and approachable, but it wouldnt go out of its way to help or even get near anyone unless they dont know its around. musically its quite confident in its abilities due to the fact that it knows its optic nerves have a very tough exterior + is capable of playing music and can Freak People Out, especially due to how secretive and unexpected it is. theres elegance to its sinisterness, and it will not hesitate to show it off. it wants to be found in the woods alone and play with its nerves with slow, siren sounding music until you scream and run away

-England and his three big bros are the prime example of "going a little crazy", they've been alive so long and half of it through the Mideival Era that they've lost concept of a lot of stuff. Like their touch with reality is a little screwed and you definitley notice they don't quite get some stuff, like they'll miss empathy cues or slip into mannerisms from days long past. Use old English, etc. They're the wacky cousins that ar just a bit confused but they're trying, even if they get on everyone's nerves a bit. Also they're still figuring out how emails work, because while their personalities change according to their people their actual knowledge doesn't always keep up.

-Russia, i think that one's obvious, man's had such a time that he's spent so long plastering a smile that he's basically forgotten how not to not smile. And you can't undo centuries in a day. You see his true nation age when he takes everything and doesn't bother trying to question it no matter how ridiculous, when he stops a tank with his bare hands and walks it off, when he's surprised people don't usually try to jump out planes without parachutes.

-countries with violet eyes like Canada, Iceland, Norway- they blend in too well, they resemble the quiet kid in the back of the class (personal headcanon it indicatess magical inclination). You realize they're not quite human when Norway turns his head and hos haircurl floats midair and his gaze is just a bit too knowing, when Iceland makes a remark well beyond his physical age and you remember he's a thousand years old, when Canada- actually no the bear is enough proof.

-And then there's China and Japan, two old men who look young but have that sense of knowing more then they let on like Norway but without the creepy blank look that comes when one has Seen Too Much. Instead they travel through life like they don't have a care, as if every day is a lfietime in Neverland. Especially China. Japan also just looks tired all the time even if he isn', from stress lines that never go away.

-Prussia is that fun work colleague who suddenly turns into a history nerd out of nowhere and then flips back to normal wild mode. He's the one who tells tales like he actually was there, he and the wrest lf the BTT really. It's like they rememebr, because they do.

-Meanwhile Lithuania and Finland seem normal enough- good hardoqrking young men doing good woek. But thebmoment they're attacked, their eyes blaze and it's like an aura radiates lff them. And you know they're stronger then they look, that they won't go down without a fight. And you'll probably be the one going down no matter how strong you think you are, because they're nations and they will always hve more power and centuries of experience. Even if it's been years and they aren't superpowers, they have the muscle memory. It's engrained into their very being, it's a part of them and if you approach them the wrong way you might get dropkicked by accident.

-Countries like Denmark and America- their smiles are just off. Denmark's is too sharp, just a amidge too much, and America's is too wide, like he's trying tok hard when it's just his natural face.

-and then there's austrailia and new zealand who are the reason Florida started fighting alligators and convinced their residents to start doing it too "for the YouTube views", forgetting rhat moat people don't have instahealing or can come back from the dtad.

Can we talk about Epstein and Robert Stigwood?

I’ve not seen this discussed in the fandom before but I would like answers.

Here’s a few things that make me wonder:

On Friday, August 25, Robin [Gibb] was visiting secretary Molly Hullis (later to become his wife) in the NEMS office when Brian Epstein arrived in tears and entered Stigwood's office. "He closed the door and there was a lot of shouting. When he came out he was still crying. I said, What's the matter? He said, 'I can't talk.' And he went straight out. Moments later, Stigwood told Robin The Bee Gees would be departing for Monte Carlo that night. "Brian had pleaded with Robert to go to Sussex with him that weekend because he didn't want to be alone," says Robin."The Beatles were in Bangor with the Maharishi. And Robert had said no."

Word reached Stigwood and The Bee Gees in Monte Carlo on Sunday that Epstein had died. "It was awful," remembers Robin. "We had this terrible midnight cruise to Nice so Robert could catch a plane back. He had nothing to do with Brian's death, but he felt tremendously guilty, because if he'd stayed that might not have happened."

We also know that Robert Stigwood was a closeted gay man, who was working with Brian but it was to everyone’s surprise and the Beatles certainly didn’t take a liking to Robert.

It does make me wonder: Brian was always very protective of the Beatles and who was around them, working with them. So where did this decision come from? Robert was going to hve slightly over 50% of the NEMS shares, if NEMS didn’t go to Clive Epstein after Brian’s death.

And the quote above that with a crying Brian running into Robert’s office, shouting and then leaving again, still crying just doesn’t fit in that well with the composed business man Brian came across as.

So here’s what I’m wondering: Was there more to their relationship than business partners? Did Robert turn down Brian’s advances in that office? Was this just another rejection on top of the Beatles leaving him behind to go to India? Was this moment a moment that made Brian spiral even further into his depression?

I have so many questions, but no one has any answers, it seems.

How do I "know“ (aware it isn‘t that easy) if that‘s something I want to try / something I can take?

I have friends who eat-sleep-drink linguistics and who can‘t imagine doing anything else with their lives other than pursuing it academically…I LOVE linguistics but I can very well imagine myself doing other things - I would be missing something in my life but I wouldn‘t be destroyed you know … sometimes I feel guilty for wanting to pursue linguistics and "taking“ the spot from someone who is more passionate about it / know for certain that they want this

Any thoughts? Advice? Input?

right off the bat let me assure you that if you got into a program you'd never be "taking the spot" of someone more "deserving" unless you bribed your way in i guess.

the only way to make these decisions is through massive amounts of introspection, and you're going to find conflicting thoughts within yourself.

i chose to go to graduate school already in the full knowledge that i wouldn't be pursuing traditional professorship as a career, but i wanted to contribute to the field anyway, and i had a great system of people around me in both faculty and fellow students. that didn't change the fact that playing the academic job market would have destroyed me (i've seen enough friends go through it to be thoroughly confident of that). i'm still regretful that i won't continue to participate in my field full-time. i accepted it a long time ago, though, and i have plans to stay connected with friends/colleagues for potential "independent researcher"-type projects.

all you can really do is be honest with yourself about your goals, your desires, and your boundaries. do your research on the realities of academia, good and bad. and at a certain point, know that you simply have to decide one way or the other.

I have an idea, what if the Reader was basically renting a room in Everglot's home because Victoria's parents need the money. To cover up this her parents tell people that the reader is a distant relative, so for reasons and to do the whole "keep their bloodline pure" thing they marry reader to Victor. The Reader isn't stoked about this but she has probably seen Victor around town before and knows he isn't a bad guy. Reader grew up in the middle class, not in property but not super rich. The Reader is basically a witch and people pay them for all sorts of things. From potions, to charms, and handmade candles. They do this anonymously because the Everglot's don't what their reputation ruined. Victor has probably heard of the town witch before, how you can get all sorts of mystic and magical stuff from them. I think Victor would bit afraid of them but also intrigued by this figure that everyone has heard of but no one knows. P.s the Reader has a close platonic relationship with Victoria and will often get her gifts and stuff like they, they don't like her parents though.

+ he stayed sorta quiet the first couple of days spending most his time on his artworks and studying the butterflies around town but it was him playing the piano that rly brought you two together

+ he'd been by himself , playing v slowly sorta just trying to pass time but then you noticed and snuck up behind him staying quiet

+ " you play ?" is what you'll ask AND HE'LL LIKE PISS HIS PANTS HE'LL GET SO SCARED

+ he like clears his throat and fixes his posture " ye .. yes .." his eyes would hesitate to look up at you but once they did they immediately lit up and softened and he stayed like that for a little

+ was it a spell ? maybe 🤭🤭 BUT HE'D ALREADY THOUGHT YOU WERE BEAUTIFUL YOU WRE JUST ENHANCING IT

+ he liked scooted over so you could sit next to him and he played a little for you with a tiny blush on his cheeks the whole time , he even taught you some !!

+ over the next couple weeks he became more comfortable of your presence and started enjoying you more and more

+ your magic was also helpful he loves when you help him with tiny little things with it , makes him feel special and cared for

+ also as much as he definitely has his victorian struggling artist aesthetic HE LOVES YOUR STYLE AND DECOR it's something so new and unique to him he loves the spaces you've decorated around the house and how you dress and just everything !!

+ needless to say you being a witch doesnt effect how hard he falls for you , you did it alll by yourself no magic or anything he just loves everything about you
