tw: homophobia
Jim drives Max home. She had been to the country fair with El. They are sitting on the backseat, high from the bunch of sweets they bought. The whole car smells like sticky caramel and cotton candy. Like childhood and good memories.
Max hugs El goodbye. El smiles at her and Jim is so fucking relieved. That she's got friends, that she can do what kids her ages do, that she can act normal like she can't kill a man just by thinking about it.
It only lasts a second. El freezes, grabs Max' hand before she can get out of the car.
"Jim," she says, voice wavering. "What's a... faggot?"
Jim frowns. When and why did she learn that word?
"A queer," he says, feeling uneasy. He isn't really prepared to talk about stuff like that in his car on a Saturday evening. "A person who… loves someone of the same gender. Don't use these words... It's not nice."
"Queer," El echoes. Shit. Max stares at her with wide eyes. More... guilty than surprised. "Is that bad?"
"No." Hopper shuffles in his seat. "Just... different."
Why are they talking about this?
El stares at Max' house. A line between her eyes.
"Billy is hurt. He thinks it's okay, because Neil is right about him," she says finally, like she's reciting a text she memorized.
"What?" Jim's mouth turns dry. "What happened?"
"What happens to faggots," El repeats, voice monotone and eyes distant. "Neil just wants to help."
Jim doesn't know shit about gay people. Jim didn't ever really think about them. But he knows about fathers whose help is nothing but wounds and scars and nightmares.
He's out of the car and bangs at the door.
"What's going on, Sheriff?" A stern looking man with a mustache is opening, a frown on his face. There's blood on his wedding ring, his hand on the door.
"You're not laying a hand on the kid," Jim yells and he can feel El's presence in the back of his mind, her fear and maybe that's what makes him pull Neil Hargrove by his collar. "Do you understand?"
"Sir, there has to be a misunderstanding-" Neil starts, but is shut up.
Jim has always been a hothead and he doesn't even remember raising his fist. He lets go of the other man.
Neil holds his nose.
"Oh, I understand fuckers like you," Jim spits. "I was raised by one."
He tries to peek into the dark of the house.
"Billy," he shouts.
Billy looks small next to his dad. His lip is split, eyes wide and he stares at Jim like he's a monster, Santa Claus or something similar unbelievable.
"Chief," he says. He's scared, Jim can see that. His hands are shaking.
"Your dad doesn't know shit. If he ever touches you again, call me. Do you understand?"
"O-okay." Billy nods, voice shaky.
Jim turns to the boy's father. "Not in my town," he spits. "Not Max, not Billy, no one."
He knows he can't save everyone, but he can at least try to protect some kids.

mmm not touch starved billy, love starved billy. he gets plenty of skin-on-skin. a backhand or a shove from his dad, a quick fuck in the backseat of his car, hell, why do you think he takes his shirt off to play basketball, a contact sport? he wants to feel touch, he's just never been given a kind one.
and that's where you come in :) from the very first date you're already shyly reaching for his hand, slipping your fingers between his over the vinyl table of the small diner you're eating at
you watch carefully for his reaction, and he's not really able to hide his shock, he kind of goes stiff. so you're worried you've overstepped, and you start to draw back with an awkward apology, but just before you can pull your hand away completely, he tightens his grip, and squeezes your hand, holding it in place.
“Don’t apologize.” Normally that would be said in a teasing, lighthearted tone. But instead his face is strangely intense, eyes shining under the low lights of the diner.
then it escalates from hand holding to a hug. He drops you off at your front step, and instead of just staying in the car, he walks you up. It’s a pretty cliched first kiss scene, you tell him you had a good time and he agrees with a dazzling smile. There’s a slow, heart-racing lean-in, hitched breath and an eager shine in your eyes, and then he kisses you so soft, you’re not even sure he’s there. He’s not really about special first kisses, preferring to tongue a girl behind the gym. But when your hand comes up to press gently, softly against his cheek, he knows he’s addicted to kindness, soaking it up like a sponge and letting the excess compel him to hold your waist.
he’s not handsy like he normally would be, he keeps his hands firmly planted there while you kiss. It’s soft, slow, sweet, and it feels like waking from a daydream as his pretty blue eyes flutter open to stare into yours.
“Goodnight, Billy.” You whisper, and he’s a goner.
there’s tenderness in your voice, your touch, your gaze, and he lays awake that night thinking about it. It warms him up, knowing that you’d treated him like you care. Maybe you do, maybe you dont, but the feeling is intoxicating, and he doesn’t feel as perpetually angry at the world that night
max notices a change after that. Neil shouts at him, tells him he’s good for nothing, weak, disappointing, and instead of slamming his door and blasting music, probably kicking the bed frame, he offers her a ride to the arcade.
"What?" / "A ride, dipshit, I'm going out and I'll drop you on the way."
and the most insane part, he doesn't even bitch at her in the car. she sits silently and so does he, and when she gets out, he says he'll get her at 8. no threats, no name-calling, just 'i'll pick you up at 8'.
when she gets in the car at 8:10, she's absolutely certain she'll be griped at for being late. but he backs out of the spot, and even asks her about the slap bracelet she'd won inside.
"You get that in there?'"/ "Yeah. I had enough tickets so..." / "What?"
She squints hard at his face while they're stopped at a light, and his own face scrunches in displeasure, "What is it?"
"Are you wearing chapstick?"
The light turns green, and he punches it hard, only remembering to slow down as he pulls his lips between his teeth to lick them. she doesn't ask again, but she spots a tube of it on the ground, strawberry flavored, and definitely not hers.
billy had taken you to the drive-in, and apparently it had fallen out of your pocket when you'd leaned over the center to kiss him. he brought it back to you the next day, knocking at your door and greeting your mother who surprisingly loved him. he wasn't really sure how to react to that, because no girl's mother has ever liked him before, but he's welcomed in and finds you in your room, folding laundry.
he spends the entire day with you, a saturday, just being with you. you teach him how to fold laundry your way, and he definitely teases you about the bras and underwear he finds. in retaliation you whack him with a pillow, and he pretends to be greatly injured after the attack, sprawled out over your bed with his tongue out in a cartoonish display of death
you straddle his waist, peering down at his minutely-fluttering eyelashes. you take his face in your hands, gently, sweetly, and turn it to face you, watching as his pretty blue eyes make a reappearance. he's staring at you, and he looks almost nervous, but he could easily push you off it he wanted to, and he doesn't, so you take that as a good sign.
you trace his features, fingers grazing over the tip of his nose and down through the crease of his chin, just below his lips. then beneath his eyes, along his cheekbones, and smoothing over his forehead. he watches you breathlessly the entire time, a thin layer of tears glossing over his eyes.
when you notice them you stop, nervous that you'd upset him. you ask him what's wrong, hovering over his face only inches away
"I love you." He murmurs, reaching up to cup your cheek.
it's breathless, it's passionate, and it's.. a little early. but that doesn't mean he doesn't feel it. he's just quicker to figure out when he loves someone 'cause he doesn't very often, so it's a new feeling that sticks out to him.
now that he's said it for the first time, watch out.
he's gonna say it 24/7, any opportunity. you hand him a chip? he leans over to bite it out of your hand and goes 'I love you'. he hands you a chip? when you reach for it he'll hold it out of your reach, wait 'till you look at him like wtf? and then say 'love you' with that shit-eating grin of his
he clings to you. his hand is always somewhere on your body, whether it be prying at your own and pulling it into his lap or laying around your shoulders, pressing your sides together
play. with. his. hair. seriously, scratch your nails through his hair, he'll purr like a kitten. brush it out right before his shower, give him a little head massage, that way you can mess up the curls and he'll just reform 'em. comb through it, braid it, put serums and products in it, anything as long as you're touching his scalp
i think he'd really appreciate forehead/cheek/nose kisses, of course he appreciates them on the lips too but it's different, casually intimate and sweet. he's addicted to kissing your cheek, he'll be walking beside you in the mall and yank you closer by where his arm is laid around your hip just to press his lips to your cheek
he kisses your forehead in bed, tugs you into his chest and leans down to press a kiss to your forehead. he might not even lean back up, he might just fall asleep with his face pressed to yours
he's.. obsessed with kissing. like, your lips are constantly swollen. of course he's game for a good steamy makeout session but mostly it's just lazy, slow, soft, sweet kisses, just laying together and swapping spit and touching each other, your leg thrown over his, your foreheads bumping together, his hand on your stomach
speaking of, he'll sleep with his hand under your shirt most nights, either flat and warm against your back or your stomach. and if you ever sneak your hand up his shirt to scratch up his back, he shivers. fully body shivers.
he loves loves loves it when you hold him in your sleep, sometimes he stays awake while you drift off just to watch you get comfy and unconsciously snuggle into his warmth. The first time you do it is while you’re watching a movie on your couch and he misses the last half of the film because he’s just watching you sleep peacefully all snuggled into him
he’s not only grateful that you’re his safe space, but he’s amazed that he seems to be your own. he’s never had a safe space before, even when his mama was around Neil was too. so being with someone he loves without any fear or anxiety is very meaningful to him. It means that when you pass out on his shoulder at the drive-in or let him cart you around to parties just as long as he keeps his arm around you the entire time, he recognizes that you feel safe with him, and that means more to him than he’ll ever be able to express
it’s why he takes such good care of you, he doesn’t ever want to let you down or be someone who fails you. the movie’s too loud and you’re starting to wake? he doesn’t need to see the end of it, the two mcs probably get together. he’ll just drive quietly and slowly back home and let you snooze in the parking lot. party getting too wild? he’ll take you out into the backyard and sit on the porch swing with you, smoke a cig and blow it away from you, let your head fall onto his shoulder with his arm around your waist.
your touch grounds him. he feels safe, secure, loved, supported, happy, and content all at once when he’s touching you, even if he’s just knocking his foot into yours from under the lunch table.
Billy may get touched a lot, but not loved, so when you come into his life, a beacon of all things sweet, he’s going to bask in it, soaking up your love like a big sappy sponge and letting it heal his wounds

No matter how many houses you live in, sometimes you still end up without a home. Four walls and a roof doesn't automatically qualify. There's security. Comfort. Belonging. Love. All things that were absent in every Hargrove household. From California, to Hawkins, or fucking Timbuktu. If Neil was there, it wasn't a home. It was a nightmare.
Billy stuffed handfuls of essential items into the pockets of his denim jacket. Car keys, condom, sunglasses, box of cigarettes- where was that damn lighter? He felt around his jeans and even flipped over the pillow on his bed. No lighter in sight. Shit. At this rate, he won't make it out before Neil gets home. When his father wasn't out with Max's mother, he kept a predictable schedule. One Billy grew accustomed to maneuvering around, for minimal contact.
Like clockwork, the lock on the front door clicked and Neil entered the house. Even from upstairs, Billy could hear him grumble and slam his coat and keys down. Mood already soured. Great. "Billy!" He called out, voice echoing throughout the house. Billy actually contemplated how quiet he could be sneaking out the window, but there was no time. After just five seconds of not replying, Neil stomped his way up the stairs. Making a beeline for Billy's room till he stood in the doorway. "So what, are you deaf or just dumb?"
Billy's whole body went stiff, turning to face his father. Although the man constantly demanded eye contact (purely for intimidation), Billy never looked at him so much as through him. He mumbled. "I didn't hear you come in."
"Bullshit, but whatever. Your sister-" Neil purposely emphasized, just itching to get a rise out of him. "-isn't home. It's past curfew."
Knowing Max, she was probably running around with those little nerd kids from her school. Or you, the only other girl his age that caught the redhead's interest. She followed you around like you were the coolest thing. He found it kind of cute, in a pathetic way. Yeah…that's what it was. Not that he'd ever mention it.
"You know the Jane kid she has sleepovers with. Call her dad. I was already on my way out." Finally spotting his lighter peeking out from underneath one of his folded shirts, he leans over and plucks it from its hiding spot. Maybe if he walked while he spoke, Neil wouldn't stop him. So he took one step toward the open bedroom door. Toward Neil. Bad move.
Neil rushed him, grabbing him by the collar of his jacket and forcing him up against the wall. The force of Billy's back hitting the surface knocked over one of his posters. "What? You finally gonna make a move, pussy?!" He released Billy's jacket with a shove, straightening his posture to make himself bigger. To make Billy small in his presence. "Huh?! Come on, then! THROW A PUNCH!"
It was a nice thought. Finally having enough of the shit and smashing his fist right into Neil's face. Again, and again, and again, until his tormentor was unrecognizable. Until he could no longer see the traces of himself in that man's face. But it was a thought that stayed locked away. Instead, Billy wilted. Standing there frozen and waiting. Bracing.
Neil scoffed, standing back as if he were going to leave. That would've been too easy. In this house of horrors, Billy never got off easy.
○ ▪︎ – – 《 ◇ 》 – – ▪︎ ○
The atmosphere at your house brought back memories of warmth and nostalgia. Homemade cookies cooling in the kitchen, fresh squeezed lemonade in the fridge, and laughter so loud it drowned out the television. Truth be told, nobody was paying attention to it anyway. You, Max, and Eleven sat in a circle on your carpeted living room floor. Magazines and comics spread out, along with whatever makeup you could find in your limited collection. You didn't wear much normally, but sometimes you liked to play in it. Try different looks. Tonight the girls requested makeovers, so you flipped through your magazines for styles that might inspire something. At least you were, until you heard a firm knock at the door.
"I'll be back. Keep looking!" You said, standing up from your criss-cross-applesauce position. Your house was pretty spacious, so it took a bit for you to reach the door and open it. The last person you expected to see was Billy 'Fuck Me' Eyes Hargrove. You called him that because that's what he often gave you, whenever you met eyes with him during your time together at school. 'Fuck me' eyes. Those cold blues would undress you from across a crowded room like no one else was there. Like no one else was worth his attention. Nothing ever came of it. He never asked you out, or even just started a conversation. Perhaps you were just eye candy. You both graduated before either of you could figure it out.
"Hey, Y/n." The infamous blue eyes were now covered by an oddly large pair of sunglasses. More odd than that was the fact that it was dark outside. Why was he wearing sunglasses at night? He cleared his throat, momentarily covering his mouth with a clenched fist. The knuckles on his hand were red and raw, looking like they might bleed. Billy quickly realized his mistake and pulled his hand down to tuck them into his jacket pocket. The attention now drawn to his lips, and the trace of blood smeared from a fresh cut on the bottom one. "Your mother never told you it's impolite to stare?"
Caught red-handed, you immediately averted your gaze. "Sorry…" Yeah. Not how you expected your first conversation with him to go. "How uh- Did you need something?"
It wasn't the way he wanted to introduce himself either. Bitterness got the better of him before he could think of a better approach. "Yea, actually. Is Max here?" He winced a little, pulling the corners of his mouth up into a sultry smile. "If not, I could just take your number. Y'know.. just in case." Yikes. He was off his game tonight and he knew it. At this point he was better off shutting up and letting his physical charm handle the rest. Strong and silent. Heavy on the silent. His wounded pride had him questioning the 'strong'.
You looked over your shoulder and into the house, tilting till you could see the two girls chatting where you left them. "She's here. Me, her and El were havin' a girls day."
Billy had the audacity to snort. "Girls day?" He mocked, struggling not to actually chuckle. It already hurts to smile. "How cute." If television and movies held any accuracy, all he could picture was you three painting nails and braiding each other's hair. Laid out on your stomach, feet kicking while you talked about whatever stale Hawkins boy caught your attention.
"Yes. Girls day." Your eyes rolled, but you took no actual offense to his teasing. Concern still lingering over the cut on his lip, and the beginnings of a bruise on his cheek. Oh shit. "Is- Is she supposed to be home? She told me her mom said it was okay-"
"Well, nobody told my dad that. It's past her curfew. I gotta take the brat back home."
The sharp tone in his voice made it seem more urgent than he was letting on. Guess she must be in trouble. You opened the door wider, standing back so he could step inside. "Come in, I'll go get her." Without even waiting to see if he followed, you made your way back into the living room. Max met you halfway, probably hearing her brother's voice from down the hallway.
Usually Max would scowl at him, or force herself to appear neutral and aloof. The unexpected appearance must've really caught her off-guard. Her eyes widened looking up at him. Was it fear? Neil never laid a hand on her, but he still frightened her. Sometimes he was even a bit too nice. The implications of that thought made Billy want to puke and never take her back there.
"Max, you mind if I talk to Billy alone for a sec?"
The redhead shrugged. "Go ahead, take 'im." Practically throwing you in his direction.
His boots shuffled down the short hallway, past family photos and your framed high school diploma. The scent of chocolate chip made his mouth water the moment you both entered the kitchen. His eyes zeroed in on the tray of cookies, staring like he hadn't eaten in days. You caught him, picking the tray up and holding it out to him with a smile. "They should be cool by now."
Billy hesitated at first, then slowly reached out and took a cookie. They were still warm in the middle. The melted chocolate pulling apart as he bit into it. He almost came in his pants. The mmmh that vibrated through him was borderline pornographic. "Fuck, you made these?"
Your cheeks flushed. People enjoyed your baking, sure, but they never enjoyed it like that. It had you ready to bake him all the cookies he could ever want. "I do most of the cooking and baking here. My parents work a lot. Plus, it's just fun to me." He made a happy noise through his chewing, another cookie already pinched between his fingers. Your eyes drew back to his lips. Plump, moving as he chewed. His tongue occasionally sticking out to lick away a crumb. Even the way his adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed seemed to draw your attention. For some reason it made the back of your neck sweat. "Y'know… You and Max don't have to leave."
He finished swallowing the mouthful he had, licking over his teeth before he replied. "Sorry doll, but we do. I uh… I can't go back home unless I bring her."
You really really didn't want to pry, but the whole situation made you feel uneasy. Like the two of them going home right then and there just didn't seem safe. So you sat the tray down on the counter beside him and stood a little closer. You wanted to talk low enough so the girls wouldn't hear. "Max told me your dad isn't exactly a nice dude. She wouldn't go into detail, but I can tell that there's more." You raised your hand up toward his face, aiming to cup his cheek where the bruise was. Surprisingly, he let you. But he was statue stiff. Your thumb ghosted over the puffy discolored skin. It was hot to the touch. Very recent. "Did he…?"
Maybe it was the sweets. Or the concerned/comforting gesture. Due to all the people he slept with, Billy never really considered himself touch starved. Turns out, he was. He hadn't been touched like this since his mother was around. Soft, and caring. Tending to his wounds both inside and out. Initially he wanted to back away or rip your hand away from his face, but he was tired. Exhausted, and this simple gesture cooled the heat of his rage and anxiety. He didn't confirm nor deny what you asked. You didn't ask again.
He just lets you care for him. Stood there while you slid his sunglasses off and examined the bleeding scratch under his eye, and the swelling there too. Kept his eyes closed as you walked off and came back with a first aid kit. Cleaning and putting bandaids wherever they were needed. Even holding a bag of frozen peas, wrapped in paper towel, up to his face. Only then did he finally open his eyes again and look at you. Moisture still clinging to his eyelashes. They were such a beautiful sight, those eyes. This was the closest you had ever seen them.
"Look, if you're already kicked out of the house, then what's the harm in staying out longer? If you stay here with Max, then technically you are keeping an eye on her." You shifted the frozen peas, making sure the coldest area stayed against his skin. "Besides. We're a bunch of young ladies in this house all alone. My parents are staying out tonight. Maybe I'd feel safer with you here." You were half-joking. Your parents had a gun safe that you knew the combination to, and you weren't exactly a bad shot. Still, the idea of Billy being there to protect you made you feel warm and fuzzy inside. Not that he'd really give a damn. He barely knew you.
"Okay."
A sigh left his lips as he reached for yet another cookie. "You got a point. I'm just- I don't wanna deal with him tonight. Don't wanna deal with Max's attitude. And like you said…" He grinned as he took a bite. "...Can't leave you here defenseless, now can I?"
So he stayed. Max was absolutely floored, and El clung protectively close to her. Even when you reassured them everything was cool and Billy seated himself on the big recliner. His boots were officially removed and sat by the front door. He was here to stay.
The activities carried on as usual. Max and El settled on some makeup looks they wanted to try, so you opened everything up and started experimenting. Billy just silently observed. You were currently brushing blue eyeshadow across El's eyelids. It matched her blue shirt and black suspenders perfectly. Max sat and watched, shifting impatiently on her knees. That's when an idea popped into your head. "Hey Billy."
"Hm?" He was fully expecting to just be a part of the background. Out of the way until it was time to leave.
"Can you help Max out with this? I kinda got my hands full with El right now." You thrust an eyeliner pencil in his direction.
Billy gave you a look that said 'you have GOT to be kidding me', but you kept holding the eyeliner out toward him. He opened his mouth to protest, looking for some sarcastic remark. Until he looked at Max. The way the excitement in her eyes started to fade. That was his fault, and you weren't going to let it go. So he took the pencil and turned to his stepsister. "Sure."
She was hesitant to face him at first, let alone have him get up in her face. It took a little encouraging nudge from you before she settled herself in front of the recliner Billy sat on. He leaned forward, squinting as he started lining her eye. If there's one thing he took pride in, it was being exceptional at multiple things. A man of many talents. Even a bit (more than a bit) competitive. So he was dead set on making this come out right. "Stay still if you don't want me to poke your damn eye out." To his surprise, Max listened. Stilling and trying her best not to blink too much.
"Have you… done this before?" Max asked. Nervousness clear in her voice.
"No." He spoke softly, the gravel in his voice sounding more soothing than harsh. "I just- used to watch my mom do this a lot." He had her chin in his hand, moving it to keep her face where he wanted it. A little rougher than he meant to be, but Max wasn't phased. She had actually started to relax a bit. So he did the same.
You and him finished up around the same time and turned the girls around for a big reveal. Son of a bitch. His eyeliner work actually was better than yours. Even El seemed to agree as she nodded her head with a smirk. "Bitchin'." Max beamed, flipping her hair out like she was posing for photos. You looked up at Billy and noticed a little smile forming on his face as well.
The next activity you had planned was something you and the girls had thought up while you were all at the mall. It seemed like a fun game to play while the other boys weren't around. Fuck, Marry, Kill. Well, to be kid-appropriate you changed it to Kiss, Marry, Kill. Read about it in some teen-girl magazine. You didn't notice when Billy had joined you all in the carpet sitting circle, but there he was. Sporting an eyeliner makeover that Max insisted on giving him. Her technique definitely needed work.
"Alright, you first El. Kiss, Marry, Kill." A bowl of popcorn rested between your legs, and you picked out of it. Playfully tossing a kernel at Billy. He caught it in his mouth, giving you a wink as he chewed. You'd be lying if you said it didn't give you butterflies.
El furrowed her brows, tapping the side of her face with her index finger. "I would… Kiss Dustin, Marry Mike, Kill… Papa."
"Who is-" You held your hand up, cutting Billy's question short with a mouthed 'I'll tell you later'.
Max hummed, rocking back and forth. "Kiss Lucas, Marry Will, Kill Mike." She shot a mischievous look towards El, at the mention of killing her boyfriend. The two of them laughed and play-wrestled with each other.
"Marry Will?" You chuckled, since Max and him probably spoke the least out of the entire friend group. She shrugged. "Well, we had to choose from people we actually know. Or I'd be marrying Ralph Macchio."
Even Billy spared a chuckle for that. "We have got to work on your taste, kid."
Max's head turned in his direction, whipping her hair over her shoulder. "What's wrong with Ralph Macchio?!"
He held his hands up in mock defense. "Nothing, nothing. Honestly, I always thought you'd swing the other way."
You rained down popcorn kernels in his direction. Throwing them with as much force as the fluffy puffed substance could withstand. "Billy!" The girls joined in, throwing popcorn at him as he smirked and repeated. "I'm just sayin'."
10 minutes of cleaning later, it was now your turn. "Alright, Kiss Marry Kill. Uhhh… Kiss Billy, Marry Eddie, Kill Steve." Max's jaw dropped, which you assumed was over the choice to kill Steve. "What? Steve owes me twenty bucks."
"What about you, Billy?" El spoke up, drawing everyone's attention.
Billy shifted, running his fingers through his blonde curls. "Uh.. Kiss Nancy, Marry Y/n, Kill Steve."
"What is it with you guys and Steve?" Max asked, not really expecting a response as she stood and made her way to the bathroom.
"You heard Y/n. He owes my wife twenty dollars. Gotta defend her honor." He pointed his response mostly toward you. Staring you down with those gorgeous eyes.
The next hour flew by like it was nothing. Possibly because you couldn't pull yourself out of your thoughts. You hadn't thought about Billy this much when you were going to school together. Tonight you just couldn't stop. Picturing those eyes. Those lips. His hands. The sinful amount of chest peeking out from his half-unbuttoned red shirt. The way his jeans hugged his ass. Get a hold of yourself, woman!
The two young girls were snoozing, huddled together under a blanket on the couch. A Nightmare on Elm Street playing on the television. Perfect time to get some cleaning in before going to sleep yourself, so you quietly made your escape into the kitchen. Trying not to disturb anyone and letting Billy watch the movie in peace. Instead he chose to follow you.
The two of you stood in a comfortable silence for a moment. He just leaned against the counter watching you wash the dishes. "So… you're gonna marry Eddie?" He teased, scooting closer to you. "Yeah, I guess I'm the kinda guy to get 'kissed' but not married."
You didn't look up from the dishes when you replied. "Well, it's against the rules to pick the same person for more than one answer. Otherwise I would've done that."
"Oh." Billy almost sounded offended. "So he gets the ring AND my kiss."
"Nooo, stupid. You… You'd get both."
No way in hell you just said that. So openly?! You quickly rinsed off the last dish, cheeks and ears burning. With a small pile of dried plates in your hands, you tried to rush past him. Something stops you in your tracks. He blocks your path, putting his arm out in front of you. "I think I want that kiss now."
Every scenario you used to dream up back in high school couldn't live up to this. Your imagination didn't add in the smell of cigarettes and cologne. The way the muscles in his arm flexed as he leaned against the cabinet. Lowering his face to meet yours. He let you meet him the rest of the way, careful not to irritate the cut on his lip. It was sugary sweet, like the cookie taste that lingered there. Uncharacteristically chaste for someone with Billy's reputation. The thought of having him ravish you was something you held onto for another time. You could tell he was holding back from the way he clenched his hand around the edge of the counter. Like he was fighting the urge to put his hands all over you.
For now, this was perfect. When the kiss finally ended, he gave you that sexy grin. "Now about that ring."
"How about you take me on a date first."
"Friday night." Billy plucked the pile of dishes out of your hands and walked away to put them where they belonged. Opening cabinets until he found the right one while you stood there. Mesmerized. Tonight was expected to be just a cute little distraction. A short reprieve before he had to go back to Neil. Now there were plans to meet up again. You couldn't help but smile to yourself.
If he plays his cards right, maybe somewhere way down the line… he could have that ring.

Steve managed to accidentally crush his headphones over the weekend, so he reluctantly turned to Billy Hargrove for help.
Steve and Billy hadn’t exactly gotten off to the best of starts, considering they beat the crap out of each other within the week. Billy has mellowed out significantly since Neil had left though, so Steve told himself to grow some balls and walked into the general repair shop Billy worked at.
The death metal blasting from the speakers was obnoxious but there was basically nobody there so Steve was able to swallow down the rising panic creeping up his throat. Billy was just some guy. He’d move back to California come the new year and Steve’s life would be exactly the same as it had always been. At least that’s what he told himself.
Billy raised an unimpressed eyebrow at Steve tripping over the step on his way up then stammering his way through an apology. His headphones lay sadly tucked under arm, limp and lifeless.
Actually getting the word autism out was harder than Steve anticipated. Maybe it was because he wasn’t used to telling other people or maybe it was because he found Billy very attractive and he knew what happened whenever anyone he liked found out.
The curl of the lip. The sneer. The asking if he was like mentally five or something.
He managed to stumble his way through explaining that they were his sensory aides and they really helped him not get overwhelmed in public and please don’t punch me again Hargrove.
Billy didn’t punch him, much to Steve’s great surprise. Instead he mumbled something about be right back Harrington and disappeared into the staff only area, only to return with a brand new pair which he thrust into Steve’s hands.
“I get it Harrington. Just take these, you busted yours pretty badly. On the house.”
Steve was pretty sure his brain malfunctioned briefly and then attempted to exit the shop after pushing on a pull door.
Billy had been pretty civil with him. So either it was all some great prank that was about to fall on his head or Steve may have misjudged him just a little.
He didn’t risk reaching out again until a month later when he’d really managed to fuck his oven up and gave himself a five minute mantra about being confident before dming Billy on Instagram asking for help.
A message came back in a minute asking what the fuck he’d managed to do. Steve insisted he had no idea then he just got a short, blunt “on my way princess.”
Billy’s tool box was extensive. As much as Steve would have wished, that wasn’t an innuendo. He just had a lot of kit, probably more than was needed for the actual state of the oven.
They hung out a bit while Billy tinkered, threw out jargon that Steve didn’t understand, then declared it was fixed. Steve resolutely tried not to stare at a peach ass in very tight denim. He may have failed.
A comfortable silence fell afterwards until Steve panicked and asked if he wanted a coffee. It only seemed polite. Billy had been working all afternoon pretty much.
How that ended in them snuggled onto the sofa, Steve couldn’t exactly remember. All he could really register was that Billy’s arms were warm and strong and Steve wished he could just stay there.
Then he snuggled in further and Billy stiffened up. Crap. He’d fucked up somehow.
Steve pulled himself back up into a sitting position, self consciously checking his hair. Billy looked slightly bewildered but more at himself than Steve.
“You…………you alright man? I didn’t push you too far right?”
He got a slow blink in response and being pulled back into a muscular chest. Steve just hoped he wasn’t doing his “simp face”, as Robin had named it.
“Steve”
Ok first name was not a good sign. Prepare for a fist.
“I fucking like you ok? Don’t laugh. I’ve liked you ever since I first set eyes on you, you beautiful oblivious bastard.”
And Steve. Steve had always kind of hated romcoms. They were dumb and clishe and the couples who got together by the end never really made sense.
But looking at Billy’s slightly flushed face and after hearing his confession, Steve thought the romcom route might be the best way to go.
Billy really was a very good kisser.

Hi papa bear! How are you doing? I hope you're taking some time for yourself self to relax! I see that you've been busy lately so I won't ask for a long story.
I just had an idea for Billy Hargrove x male reader where y/n is bored so he decides to visit Billy. So it's late at night and y/n is about to get in trough Billy's window but hears yelling from the inside. And so he walks around the house towards the yelling abd looks in to a window that doesn't have closed curtains and sees Niel hurting billy. So y/n gets in by kicking down the door and beating the shit out of Niel and than takes Billy to his house because he doesn't want him staying anywhere near his dad. And than maybe some fluff.
I hope that's not long!
Please and thank you!
Have a good day!
Ay
- Day 🦔
I'm doing good Day! I hope your having a great day as well! I love Billy with all my heart, so I don't mind you requesting this!
BILLY HARGROVE X MALE READER
Tumblr media
Y/n laid in his bed bored out of his mind. He spent hours and hours trying to find any source of entertainment. But sadly none of the things he tried really didn't give him what he was looking for.
The boy groans in his pillow about to aspect defeat, but suddenly an idea hits him right in the head. "Why didn't I think this before." Y/n says to himself getting off of his bed and rushing to put on some clothes.
Y/n quickly puts on his shoes and walks out the house before locking the door. So now in the middle of the night the boy walks to his five month boyfriends house to probably annoy him until they sneak out and walk around town like usual.
Y/n makes a few quick stops to a drug store buying him and Billy a few snacks and cigs before going back to his journey. Y/n walks on the sidewalk humming to himself as he makes his way to his boyfriend's house.
Timeskip
"Fuck finally i'm here." Y/n thinks to himself out loud looking at his boyfriend's house that's currently across the street.
A tiny smile grows on Y/n's face imagining his boyfriend's reaction when he sees him so he hurries and crosses the street.
Y/n sneaks over to Billy's window and looks inside. Y/n eyes look around in the dark room trying to make out anything. "Weird. Where the hell are you Bills..." Y/n breathes out. Usually his boyfriend would be in the bed or at the mirror, but this time hes no where in the room.
Y/n sets the bag with the snacks and drinks on the porch.
Then there's a loud noise.
Insistingly Y/n looks around behind him making sure theres nothing there, but then he hears it again.
Y/n presses his ear to the window and hears muffled shouting. It's coming from inside. Y/n moves away and begins to crouch down and walk around the outside of the house from where the noise is coming from.
"What the hell." Y/n breathes out looking at the bright window before walking to it. The window had it curtains up, so naturally Y/n looked inside the window.
Y/n felt his blood run cold and his heart sank at the sight.
Billy was on the floor gasping for air as Neil kicks and stomps on him with a broken bottle in hand. Billy's face was covered in bruises and cuts on him from most likely from the beer bottle.
Y/n didn't know what took over him. what made him that fast to react.
He bolted to the front of the house and tried to open the front door shaking and slamming his body against it over and over again. His shoulder was hurting, but he didn't give a damn. Y/n banged on the door over and over again. "Fuck this!" Y/n said before kicking the door with all his might. Kick after kick after kick until finally the door busted open. Y/n ran to the room with the light and for a short second him and Neil made eye contact.
But Y/n wasn't here to just let him keep hurting his boyfriend. He had enough. Y/n tackled him without hesitation not giving him a second to react before punching him. One in the jaw next to the cheek and the other right in the nose before rage over took him. Y/n only saw red as he beat the living hell out of a drunk man. Y/n knuckles started to ache and bleed, but he didn't care.
He grabbed Neil's shirt collar and brought him up before head butting him square in the face. Y/n repeated the action over and over again until Neil paced out.
Even when the grown man passed out Y/n was still fighting. But finally what brought Y/n out of his haze when he heard Billy cry out in pain.
Y/n quickly dropped Neil's head before rushing over to Billy who was currently on the floor. "Curls!-- I mean Billy!" Y/n says moving his hands on Billy's face cupping him.
"Cmon blue don't die on me! I've got you." Y/n shouts in panic before picking up Billy. Y/n wraps his arms around Billy tight making sure he has a good grip before leaving the house.
"Were going to my house don't worry." Y/n says.
Timeskip
Y/n unlocks the front door to his house before walking inside going inside and straight to his room. Y/n sets Billy on the bed before going through his closets getting Billy some new clothes.
"Where did you learn to fight like that?" Billy questions with a smirk. "Thought all you idiot jocks were good for nothing besides playing stupid sports." Billy jokes earning a glare from Y/n.
"First of all. You asked out this idiot jock. and Secondly were good at other things." Y/n says before adding.
"Learned half of it from you and the other half from the locker room fights." Y/n says rolling his eyes before throwing the clothes at Billy.
Y/n takes off his shirt and pants leaving himself almost naked only his boxers covering him.
"You look so cute in my clothes curly~" Y/n whispers to Billy's ear before getting up to the bathroom getting a few thins to help out Billy's bruises.
"What happened." "Don't want to talk about it." Billy says shutting Y/n down. "Okayy. How about we skip school tomorrow and then hopefully talk about it." Y/n suggests before going back in the room with alcohol and bandages. Y/n begins to treat Billy's cuts and bruises with a light kiss here and there when he flinches.
"Why were you at my house in the first place?" Billy questions moving Y/n's hand out of his face. "I was bored. I wanted to do what we always do at this time of night. But i'm glad I came when I did." Y/n says taking Billy's face in his hands.
Out of nowhere water begins to pour down from Billy's eyes. Y/n acts quickly by wrapping his arms around him hugging him tight. "It's okay curls...Your dad isn't gonna do anything to you when i'm around you hear."
"I'm right here baby... You're safe." Y/n says before crawling on top of Billy cuddling him.
"I love you." Billy says weakly on Y/n's shoulder as he cries. "I love you to baby."

smoke you like a drug...
Tumblr media
Warnings: smoking,Billy Hargrove, sexual innuendo, weight mention,Neil mentions
Pairing: Fem! Reader x Billy Hargrove
A/n: I got this amazing idea from @shanakin-skywalker Thank you for the idea! I loved writing this one,oh my gosh
Requested: no! Heavily inspired by @shanakin-skywalker
As you stepped into the hall, you almost automatically realized you were being stared at. It gave you chills,no matter how much you usually loved the attention, mainly if it was from your boyfriend.
Speaking of,where was he? You hadn't seen his blue sparkling Camero when you drove in,and he hadn't showed up to pick you up either.
Shaking it off you continued walking, chewing your gum as you did so...
That was until someone came behind you and grabbed you around the middle, scaring the actual shit out of you.
You let out a small scream, and slightly punched the arm,but heard a lower chuckle and almost immediately relaxed.
“Billy! You can't keep doing that!” You whisper-shout at him, trying to catch your breath as people slowly stopped staring.
All he did was shrug, grab your ass,and kiss you, which you of course kissed back.
When you pulled away from the kiss you went to bite your gum and then realized it was gone.
“You fuckin gum stealer!” You sounded surprised, although you don't know why,he's done this so many times before.
”Hey,I bought the gum,I get to steal the gum from my girlfriend” Billy shrugs, and starts walking with you,his arm around your shoulder as he does so,that cocky little smile on his face as he smacks on the gum.
“Technically not but alright” you mumble, and he snaps his gaze to you, laughs, and looks away.
“Hey so…where were you?” You ask,and he looks slightly confused so you try again.
“You didn't pick me up,you weren't here when I got in,and I didn't see the Camero outside” you stated, slightly playing with his fingers.
“Oh uhm…Neil needed me to do something before I left,so..” you didn't push farther than that. He barely ever told you about his dad.
Always shielding you from him when you came over.
Hell, for the first 4 months of your relationship, you never even came over.
You guys walked over to the classroom that you had for first period, and Billy placed a kiss to your cheek, grabbing another handful of your ass.
“Billy! Were in front of people!” You stated, but didn't move to stop it in any way.
“Lets just skip all day,c'monn i don't wanna listen to miss. Lateo” he drawled out,his eyes twinkling when you nodded.
Your grades were so fucked.
He smiled that fucking shining smile, and wrapped his arm around your waist,as you two walk closer to the parking lot,and closer to his car.
You were always nervous sitting on the hood of his car, never sure about the weight limit, you didn't want to break anything.
Billy never said anything about it,not anymore anyways. He just grabbed under your thighs, and sat you on the hood of the car, trapping you there.
“Feel better? It can't break if I'm holding you” billy's disgruntled voice murmurs, half getting out a cigarette and half holding you.
You nodded slightly, and let him do what he wanted, watching him.
To anyone else, they would just see…well Billy. But to you,you knew who he was under all of that. That's the best way to describe it.
He couldn't find his cigarettes so you grab them out of a pocket, you knew they were in there. And then, you held one up to his lips, and lit it.
You weren't much of a smoker, maybe once in a while, but you definitely liked the way they smelt on Billy after a bad day.
He inhales the smoke and blows it out,his eyebrows relaxing, the tension on his face lifting, and he sighed.
“Is it so bad that as much as I don't wanna go home I have to?” You shook your head at that.
“No it isn't Billy, because you know,if you're not home, who else is he gonna hit?” you said quietly, but yelped in surprise as you were gently grabbed and pulled into a kiss.
You slowly kiss him back, wrapping your hands in his curls, and Billy slowly pulled away, breathing cigarette smoke into your mouth.
You slowly told your head up and blow it out, closing your eyes.
"Fuck your gorgeous” he murmers, his hand tracing lines on you neck. You had an effect on him. He might deny it ‘till the day he dies, but you had an effect. You made his life worth something.
TADAAAA reposts, reblogs and feedback always accepted!

How Could You?
Pairing : Billy Hargrove x Fem!Reader
Summary : Sometimes, Billy needs reassurance that you love him especially after Neil gets into his head, using your name against Billy, knowing that hurts worse than when his father puts his hands on him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Warnings : child abuse, Neil Hargrove, swearing, Billy makes a sex joke 😐
Word count : 835
A/N : My mental health has been so bad recently so this might be my last fic for a while that I actually take time to write. I have stuff in my drafts ready to post in case I need them.
It hurts you deeply, seeing him like this, so vulnerable, so hurt by his own father. Neil left with Susan, leaving Max and Billy at the house. Max was the one to call you, she heard everything that happened, and heard every word that Neil spewed at your boyfriend. You're pretty sure you broke almost every law in town to get to him, needing to be with him.
She let you into the house, hugging you quickly. "I left water and Tylenol outside of his room, I don't know if he took it." You nodded and thanked her and she went to her room as you went to Billy's, the water and medicine nowhere in sight. You knocked and walked inside, seeing him in his bed, shirtless and in shorts.
He looked at his ceiling, holding his necklace tightly and you knew the chain was digging into the skin, making it raw. "Baby," you said quietly. He didn't take his eyes off of the ceiling as he hummed to you, acknowledging you. You shut his door behind you and moved to the edge of his bed, his ankle against the bottom of your back.
Your heart sank when you saw what exactly Neil did to him, "Oh baby." He shook his head, "Don't do that, not for me. I'm not deserving of that." Still, his eyes never left the ceiling. "Yes you are." He shook his head, "I'm not, trust me." Slowly and with calculated movements, you reached for his knee, gently rubbing it, doing your best to not get knots in the brunette hair that dusted the skin.
"Why aren't you?" He sighed, "Because I'm not." You hummed, "That's not an actual answer, B." He stayed quiet. "Do you want me to leave," you asked after a few minutes of silence. "No," he deadpanned. You nodded, "Okay," you said as you got comfortable, sitting beside him, gently yanking a pillow out from underneath him.
The room was silent besides Billy's ragged breathing, his adrenaline through the roof as he tried to calm down. "Do you love me?" You looked at him, "Of course I do." He hummed, "Okay." You sighed before speaking again, "It was after our second date, when you brought me back here and you were working on that junk bike. You were so open with me, I was able to ask you anything and you immediately answered. I got to know William, not Billy or the keg king, but William Hargrove. So yeah, I can positively say that I do indeed love you, a lot more than I could ever express."
He nodded, hand reaching for yours and you held it, seeing little cuts on his knuckles. "Did you hit him back?" He shook his head, "I think I'd be dead if I did. Punched the bathroom wall, there's a hole now so I moved the picture over it." You nodded and rubbed his knuckles gently. "Did you break anything?" He shook his head, "Already checked myself like you taught me to." You nodded.
"Is it hard to love me?" You shook your head, "It's second nature for me, like breathing." He nodded and looked at you quickly, "You forget how to breathe sometimes." You grumbled and he laughed. "Shut up, Billy." His laugh made you smile, usually it was something just for you. "Imagine forgetting how to breathe that you have to watch your boyfriend do it." You rolled your eyes, "Imagine eating fucking bubbles in the shower." He thumped your thigh, "That was one time because you blew bubbles at me."
He leaned down and kissed the top of your head, murmuring, "I love you." You smiled, "I love you too now give me a kiss." He laughed and tipped your head back before kissing you. You smiled when he pulled away, "Man, is this what Disney is like?" He laughed, "I mean, you do get to ride your favorite ride." You gasped and he laughed, placing his hand on his stomach as his shoulders shook, head thrown back and you laughed with him.
"Billy, that's inappropriate." He snickered, "Look at who you're talking to. Of course it was." You laughed and shook your head, looking at the bottle of Tylenol on his bedside table. "Go tell her thank you." He groaned as he got up, trudging next door before coming back a few minutes later and he laid back down. "Need me to mend anything?" He shook his head, “I'm good, maybe my dick." You sighed, "Billy, shut up." He laughed before Max piped up through the wall.
"Yeah Billy, shut up!" You both laughed and he knocked on the wall, "Shut it, Maxine!" You laughed, shaking your head and got comfortable, kicking your shoes off. You curled up against his side, trying to be aware of his bruises and sore spots. "Love you." You smiled, "I love you too." He talked to you until you fell asleep, holding you tightly to protect you from anything and everything.

This is my first and probably last post I will ever make. I’m here to consume the content, not necessarily create it.
I see all of you fighting the good fight for Billy and his story. And I wanted to add my thoughts into the ring.
As someone who works with children and adults from abusive backgrounds EVERY SINGLE DAY. I can tell you that Billy checks every single box for being in his survival state 24/7.
I have had extensive trainings about trauma, how to recognize it and the effects it can have on a person and how they act. Personally I have endured a lot of trauma myself and had to unlearn a lot of unhealthy behaviors and ways of thinking because of it.
With that being said: someone who is in a state of survival constantly is not capable of thinking rationally, the only goal is to…survive.
Billy Hargrove was an abused child. A CHILD. Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. Does this forgive his actions? No. But it explains them. Gives us a deeper insight into the “why?”
Neil hit his son, he insulted him, called him a slur and then reminded him that Max, his younger stepsister’s well-being is in his hands. That’s a lot for a 17 year old to go through. Then he goes to the Byers residence where he’s insulted and lied to. His sister (who’s well-being is in his hands) is alone with 5 boys, one of them is his age? THEN to top it all off, Steve punches him? All that built up rage from what just happened with Neil comes spilling out. Oh and to make matters worse, he gets sedated and Max MIRRORS Neil’s abuse by making him repeat himself. Keep this in mind, while all this is going on Billy has absolutely no idea what is going on. He still doesn’t know what Max is doing with all of these boys in this house.
Moving forward- Billy gets possessed by the mind flayer, he still has no idea what is going on and loses control of his own body. He had to watch as his hands take the lives of many people to feed this creature from his worst nightmares. Then this group of children lock him in a sauna, he is FINALLY able to beg for help and sobs. Even then NOBODY tells him what’s going on, no one really makes an effort to help him. It’s only in the final episode of season 3 that El breaks through to him, she see’s his past, his mom leaving, the abuse. Even standing up to the mind flayer Billy has no idea what he’s up against, he’s still in the dark. All he knows is that it’s him or this child that showed him how to come back to himself. It’s him or Max, and as we already know Max’s well-being is in his hands. Nothing is more terrifying than Neil’s wrath. And in his dying breath he apologizes.
For my fellow Billy Stans- Please never let anyone bully you about what characters you can and can’t like. Your ability to see deeper into the characters and push past the hate is needed in this world. Not just in fiction, but in the real world. If you relate to Billy as I do, from past trauma, I am so sorry. I am so very sorry that you have to fight, explain and rationalize your love for him every time. For whatever reason you stand behind Billy Hargrove, it is valid. And unlike Billy’s story, I hope that yours doesn’t end in tragedy. My inbox is always open for those who need to talk.
Now, for the Antis- I want to say, good for you. You managed to take a broken and deeply complex character and reduce him to a heartless villain in your minds. Think what you want about him, it really doesn’t matter. What does matter is how you act to the people who do relate to Billy. The name calling, the hate, the wild assumptions about real people!! It’s so insane to me. I hope that turning into the bully to make a point was worth it. How other people relate to a character doesn’t affect you in any way at all. Somehow many of you have managed to put people down and make them afraid to express their love for a character. It’s not something to be proud of.
I am not willing to argue with anyone on this, this is just my views and my opinion. Dacre Montgomery stated that he worked hard to humanize Billy Hargrove. Seeing his character be dragged through the mud and continuously be turned into the irredeemable monster by the Duffer Brothers and the fans is just really sad.
Billy Hargrove means a lot to me. For a lot of different reasons. He deserved so much more than he was given. He deserved a chance to redeem himself and to tell his side of the story. He deserved a chance to apologize for everything he did in his survival state. He deserved the chance to finally be happy and be surrounded by people who actually cared for him, who wanted to help him.
Just keep going everyone. ❤️

One week after being taken in by Joyce and Jim, Billy's found it hard to kick his old habits.
He's found himself rather dependent on drugs and alcohol. So, he does what he usually does to deal with time at home— he gets high and drunk.
He always did it to numb himself, mind and body. So he wouldn't feel the punches. So the screams wouldn't sound so loud. So his body could still feel relaxed in frightening situations. So he could still sleep at night after facing the waking nightmare which was Neil hargrove.
He didn't need to do it anymore, but he still did.
Jim wasn't trying to smother the boy. Eighteen's still an adult, even if he's a kid in Jim's eyes. So he just...waits for Billy to eventually come home, hoping to God he doesn't have to go out looking for him.
10:30 PM...11:42...12:20...1:35...
2:32AM, Billy finally stumbles in the house, quite noisily. His keys hit the floor, he mumbles curses under his breath, he bumps into the coffee table because he's not used to navigating this house in the dark just yet.
He sighs in annoyance and just plops down on the couch. He's already feeling a little uneasy because he made so much noise.
Jim surfaces from his bedroom and sits next to Billy. He shines a flashlight in his face, answered by a groan and the quick reflex of Billy slapping the flashlight away.
"You're wasted, aren't you?" Jim assumes. "Joyce has been worried sick about you. I stayed up all night waiting because she sat by the window waiting to see you park in the driveway."
"Mmh." Billy groans. He's not coherent enough to respond, to apologize.
"How the hell did you drive like this?!" Jim questions.
"I do it all'a time. S'no big deal."
"It's a big deal. Are you crazy? You could've gotten yourself killed!"
"So what?"
"So what?! Billy! How do you think we would feel if something happened to you?"
"I'unno. I just got here. Wouldn't matter."
"It would matter. Jane loves you. Will and Jonathan really like having you here, and Joyce, psh, forget it. You're her baby, just like her other boys. She knows what you went through and all she wants to do is take care of you."
Billy whimpers in response before a soft sniffle can be heard.
Jim places a comforting hand on Billy's shoulder. "Don't cry, alright? Let's sober you up so you can say goodnight to Joyce."
"M'kay." Billy nods.
Jim makes him a cup of coffee and a sandwich.
"Listen. You don't have to check out whenever you come home. Things're different now. It'll be nice if you're present so we can feel like a family."
"You don't need a screw up like me in your family."
"We're all screw ups, Billy. We've all screwed up in one way or another, or been screwed over by life. That's what makes our family so great. We understand each other."
Silence filled the kitchen. The kitchen clock ticked and the lightbulb above them softly buzzed.
"Sorry." Billy finally said. "I'm not used to this."
"I know. You want some cookies and milk?"
"I'm not a kid." Billy rolled his eyes.
"You're my kid. And you can have cookies and milk if you want 'em."
Billy chuckled. "I guess I do want them."
"Atta boy." Jim excitedly opened up a pack of Oreos and poured himself and Billy some milk.
They'd eaten nearly half the package when they heard someone clear their throat.
They both turned to see Joyce standing in the doorway, her arms folded over her robe.
"Having a late night snack, are we?"
"Sorry." Jim apologized. "Did we wake you?"
"No. I was already up. I went to check Billy's room to see if he'd come home and...here he is with you, eating all the snacks."
"I'll replace the oreos." Jim promised.
"I don't care about the oreos, honey. I'm just glad you're home." She said, smiling at Billy. "I was worried you wouldn't come back, then I wouldn't know if you were safe or taking care of yourself."
Billy frowned. "I didn't mean to worry you. I-I swear I won't do it again."
"I hope not." She approached him and kissed his forehead, then snatched the oreo out of his hand and dipped it in his milk, before shoving the whole cookie into her mouth.
Billy laughed as she strutted away, bidding a quiet goodnight before returning to bed.
"I guess I'd better turn in too." Jim said with a stretch as he stood. "What about you?"
"Yeah. I think I'm gonna do the same."
"Goodnight, kid."
"G'night dad."
They looked at each other wide-eyed. Billy didn't mean to call him dad. Not this soon.
"Sorry was that...that was weird, right?"
"Not to me. Whatever makes you feel comfortable."
They smiled at each other before heading to their rooms.
Billy snickered at the pajama set Joyce had laid out for him on his bed. He hadn't worn a pajama set since he was 8 years old, but the red lounge pants and matching cotton shirt were so soft, and the made bed was even softer.
He didn't want to feel numb anymore. He wanted to feel the comfort of his bed, and the warmth of his loving family.

Billy hates the rain.
In San Diego, it rarely rains. The climate there is often called "American Mediterranean," due to the warmer winters and cooler summers, with only 40 days or so of rain a year.
Billy hates the rain because it means being stuck inside. It means not being able to escape Neil, being stuck in the house with him- or later, being stuck inside with him, Susan, and Max. He can only play his music so loud without being yelled out, and it's never loud enough to drown out the screaming between Neil and Susan, and it's always loud enough to bring down Neil's wrath.
It rains a lot more in Hawkins. Not a lot, compared to other places, if you ask around, but it's a lot more than Billy's used to, and he hates it, because it's more time under the same roof as Neil.
Which is why he finds himself in the woods, sitting in the back of Eddie Munson's van, the doors open to let in fresh air as they smoke and share a beer.
He'd just wanted to buy some weed, then drive to an isolated place to smoke in his car and ride out the rain, sober up, then drive home in time to crash, avoiding Neil altogether.
Eddie had surprised him, though.
When Billy had asked for indica, Eddie had lifted a brow.
Everyone asks him for sativa- they want the mind high, the giddiness and the "everything is funny," kind of high that makes them feel good without making them want to faceplant into the floor.
Yet here's Billy Hargrove, the newest bad boy, the new King of Hawkins High, standing in the rain, asking for indica, wanting the full-body stone that makes one sleepy, content, and agreeable before sliding into a well needed sleep.
And he wants to smoke some, sleep it off, then go home.
"Have you ever smoked indica?" Eddie asks.
"It makes you drowsy," Billy shrugs. "I've always had sativa, but I want something a bit more mellow."
"Yeah, sorry, man. I don't know if I can give you a strain you've never smoked- especially if you're gonna drive somewhere by yourself, when you don't know how you're gonna react to it," Eddie replies with a frown.
Billy wants to punch him. He's taking a risk, coming out to buy weed, and from what everyone says about Munson, the less time spent around him, the better. But he sure as hell doesn't want to drive away empty handed- and he sure as fuck doesn't want to go home, or be sober.
When Billy sets his jaw, the tendons in his neck going taut, Eddie expects a swing at his face, but it doesn't come. Billy simply shoves his hands into the pockets of his leather jacket and turns to go back to his car.
"Hey," Eddie says. "Hold up."
Billy glances over his shoulder at him, and when his hair falls off his cheek, Eddie sees the barest hint of a faded bruise, and it clicks.
Hargrove hasn't gotten into a fight- not yet. It'd be all over school if he had- especially since everyone knew Tommy Hagan was the first one to talk about any fights.
"What?" Billy asks, his voice tight.
At that moment, he looks like a sad, wet stray dog afraid of getting kicked, and Eddie can't stand it. He might be a hard ass, but he looks so pathetic, despite the clenched jaw and hard eyes, that Eddie can't send him away. Eddie motions for him to come over, patting the blanket he's spread over the back of his van. "Come on. Free sample, see if you react to it alright. If you do, I'll sell you some, and you can be on your way. How's that sound?"
He can't really say no to that, and sharing a joint with Eddie Munson is better than going home.
So here he is, feeling the tension drain from his body as he leans against the inside of the van, watching the rain fall outside as he and Eddie pass the joint back and forth in companionable silence.
Eddie doesn't ask any questions, doesn't even make small talk, and Billy appreciates it- especially since he can see that Eddie is full of curiosity.
He's also glad Eddie let him have a free try- indica hits him like a sledgehammer. He's not about to fall asleep- his natural anxiety is too strong for that- but he's so relaxed, his limbs so heavy, that the thought of getting up seems like such an insurmountable task that he can't even fathom driving home.
But for the first time in a while, he feels relaxed enough that he can unclench his jaw, lie back against the panel of the van, and just listen to the rain pattering on the metal roof.
Eddie moves to the front of the van and puts the engine in accessory, the tape deck crackling to life. Metallica fills the air, and Billy hums in appreciation as he recognizes the Ride the Lightning album.
"Sorry, was a bit too quiet for my liking," Eddie says, settling back into his spot beside Billy- close enough to pass the joint, but not close enough to touch.
"No, I like it," Billy replies. "Love Metallica."
Eddie gives him a small half grin, and rummages in a cooler beside him. He pulls out a beer and cracks it open, handing it to Billy, who blinks, surprised, but takes it with a soft murmured "Thanks," and he takes a long quaff. It's cold, and smooth, and tastes even better with the indica coursing through his veins.
He and Eddie sip their beer in silence, listening to the rain and Metallica, watching the world start to darken as the sun the sets behind the clouds.
For the first time, Billy doesn't mind the rain.

“I guess,” Harrington shrugs, “I just – my parents, you know? They like to have things to brag about. Sports are about the only thing I’m good for.”
He says it like it’s easy, like its fact. Like he’s heard it a million times and it doesn’t bother him.
Billy thinks about him dropping out of the swim team, about the way he loiters about the pool, watching his kids and staying as far from the water as he can. Thinks about that last season he had on the basketball team, lackluster and disappointing. Cut short by a concussion that benched him for the last game of the season. The last game of his high school career.
A concussion that Billy gave him.
He remembers, too, the way he had talked about the kids, the way he said ‘people who care about me’ like he didn’t have anyone else. Like there weren’t any other options. Like they were all he had in the whole world.
“Well, don’t forget about that pretty face of yours, Harrington,” Billy says, looking away, watching the kids, trying to see them the way Harrington might.
Harrington laughs at that, throwing his head back, and Billy can’t help but turn slightly to watch him.
“Yeah, well, I guess I’ve got that going for me, huh?”
“Sure,” Billy agrees, leaning over to pass him a coke bottle, “Popeye’s turning green with envy, man.”
Harrington snorts at that, reaching out to punch lightly at Billy’s shoulder before he takes the offered drink.
“Listen man, it’s not that bad if I ditch the hat,” he says, leaning back against his seat and twisting off the cap, oblivious to the way Billy can’t help but watch the flex of his bare arms as he does, “It’s company policy, but, c’mon, Robin’s my manager and it’s not like she’s gonna call me out.”
“She’s definitely gonna call you out,” Billy argues, “She likes to watch you suffer too much to let that slide. Besides, isn’t that unhygienic or something?”
“Dude. You really think a dog bowl shaped hat is keeping any of our hair out of the ice cream?”
“Hmm, yeah, maybe you should get a hairnet.”
“A hairnet?” Harrington says, scandalized. “You want me to wear a hairnet? Seriously?”
Billy can’t help but laugh at him, at the suburban house-wife outrage on his face.
“Listen, man, it’s not about what I want, it’s about safe business practices.”
“Does Scoops Ahoy seem like the kind of chain that cares about ‘safe business practices’ to you? Dude, Ballast Bubblegum is radioactive, I swear on my life. Nothing approved by the FDA should be that pink.”
“Since when have you known what the FDA is?”
Harrington’s smile turns a little wry at that and he takes a long sip of his coke, throat bared and bobbing. Billy adjusts his sunglasses just to make sure they’re still hiding him.
“Been reading up on all those government agencies lately,” Harrington says, glancing at his kids again, eyes watchful behind his shades, smile placid, “Kind of required reading at this point. What’s with all the letters, anyway? Couldn’t they just name them something that wasn’t a pain to say in the first place?”
“They’ve got to keep the uneducated masses from asking questions somehow,” Billy shrugs, “Making everything a pain in the ass to tell apart helps.”
Harrington turns to him with raised brows, lowering his shades to look at him, expression delighted and surprised.
“Billy Hargrove, are you telling me you don’t trust the American government? How unpatriotic.”
Billy snorts at that, fishes a cigarette out of his shorts and lights up.
Billy doesn’t trust the government for shit. He’s not stupid. Korea, Vietnam. The crazy shit that’s still coming out from the earlier days of the Cold War. He’d have to be braindead to trust the feds. The whole thing’s rotten from top to bottom, from the three letter pigs to Tweedledee and Tweedledum sitting at the corner shop in their cruiser.
Neil had some cop friends back in California. They didn’t do shit about anything if it wasn’t a bank robbery or pushing someone around if they looked like ‘trouble’ – the criteria for which changed depending on the day of the week. Neil hadn’t even cleaned up his act around them all that much. More than that he knows the kind of laws they keep, the kind of things they do to people like him. The cops might not have been able to arrest him just for existing since ’76 but that didn’t mean they wouldn’t beat him to death for it if anyone ever found out.
So, no, he’s not particularly a fan of Big Brother or whatever.
But Harrington? He’s the kind of upstanding member of society that volunteers at the police station or on election campaigns. With his parents’ money and reputation, it wouldn’t be strange if he grew up to be some kind of small-town politician.
Hawkins is the kind of place that really buys into the whole American Dream shit. Working husbands with stay at home wives and two kids with a dog kind of stuff. Wholesome, normal, respectable stuff. They trust the government here. Buy into that ‘serve and protect’ crap Billy’s always known better than to believe.
But Harrington looks delighted by Billy’s casual rejection of it all, looks like he’s been dying for someone to agree with, someone who wouldn’t laugh nervously or call his mother. Someone who isn’t in fucking middle school.
“I’m patriotic as hell,” Billy says, blowing smoke up to the sky, “I love beer and a hot dog as much as the next guy. Just would prefer if Big Brother wasn’t watching me take a piss.”
“Yeah, okay, a real Yankee Doodle,” Harrington says, rolling his eyes, “Big Brother? That’s uh, from that book, right? With the eye.”
“1984.”
“Uh,” Harrington says, brow furrowing, “No? ’85? June 15th, it’s – it’s a Saturday?”
Billy stares at him for a long moment, cigarette dangling from his lips, blinking slow.
“The book, Harrington. It’s called 1984.”
“Oh.”
Harrington flushes, turns back to the water, fidgeting with his bottle. He’s got that same blush he had when Billy was bothering him at work, before Kathy ruined it, like he’s embarrassed. But not – not in a bad way. The line between embarrassment and humiliation is thin as a knife’s edge for him, but Harrington seems to walk it effortlessly. He knows how to be embarrassed without being particularly ashamed, knows how to not let it hurt. Not let it slip and cut too deep.
“It was written in the 40’s or something,” Billy explains, “as a warning. About government overreach and war and shit.”
“Yeah, well, that guy was on to something,” Harrington says, shrugging.
“What, the FBI giving you trouble, pretty boy?”
Harrington pauses, bottle halfway to his mouth, and cuts Billy a look over his still lowered glasses.
Suddenly Billy remembers himself. Remembers that the FBI probably should be giving Harrington trouble. Billy knows that he’s an accessory to murder, at least. Knows that he didn’t seem too bothered about that. The kind of unbothered that makes Billy wonder if he’s been more than an accessory.
Just because Billy doesn’t want to know doesn’t mean someone else doesn’t.
They’d buried Neil in a patch of dirt somewhere up north, closer to Roane than Hawkins proper. The only Catholic cemetery around for a while. There had been a few graves there, fresh, dates ending in ‘83. The year before they moved here. The year Will Byers died and was resurrected, a cornfed Christ figure that no one seemed to rejoice except for his mother and his gang of nerdy apostles.
Billy hadn’t asked about the strange number of corpses that cropped up that year.
He doesn’t want to know.

It was a dumb shirt, you knew wearing it to school was going to be a problem but the whole morning was a shit show so you didn’t have time to change. It was a really nasty shade of green and it fit you like a box. The sweatpants you decided to wear just made you look like you just rolled out of bed, because you had. Oversleeping makes one panic in the morning that’s for damn sure. School was just as bad, especially since Jason Carver woke up and chose you to be his victim today. All day he had been calling you names, knocking your books out of your hand and harassing you about your best friend. Billy was popular but Jason hated him, and because of your class schedule you barely got to see Billy during the day. Lunch time he was being held in a lunch detention for falling asleep in another class so Jason took the opportunity to throw apple juice at you. The day just sucked.
Finally the bell rang and you just wanted to go home, Billy usually took you but you didn’t want to wait for him because Jason was hot on your heels.
“Gonna run home and cry about how the big bad basketball players were mean to you today? Yeah? Wittle cry baby? You’re pathetic.”
You just pushed on outside, wanting to just go the fuck home.
“No wonder your dad died! I’d want to too if my daughter was a fat bitch like you!”
God. Damn. You. Jason. Your legs stopped working for a few moments. He just had to yell your business so the whole fucking school could hear it. Embarrassed tears streaked your face as you ran to the comfort of a certain blue Camaro. Billy wasn’t inside yet but you had his spare key; perks of being the best friend. You sat down and began crying so loud that when he opened his door you didn’t even hear it.
“….if you bleed on my seats you need to pay for it to be cleaned.”
Billy had no idea what to do. He’d only ever seen you cry once, and it was when your dad died. He usually was the one crying in front of you. You shot a glare at him through your tears.
“I’m not on my period idiot.”
“…so are you gonna tell me or are you gonna do the dumb girl thing where you just cry and make everyone else miserable too?”
Sometimes you questioned your friendship, and your secret love for him. He could be a real asshole.
“Jason fucking Carver. He’s been on my ass all day and then…he just…he said…something about my dad…”
Billy’s attitude switched immediately. He may have been an ass but he loved you. You knew him, all of him, and you didn’t judge him at all. You were always there for him; like when Neil got to physical and you patched him up in your bathroom, or when he got into a fight at a party and you got in Tommy’s face for trying to start shit when he was too drunk to fight. You were always in his corner.
“Finally.”
Billy threw open his car door and b-lined it to the fucking prick. You followed, not stopping him because part of you wanted to see Jason get his shit ROCKED.
“Well, Well. The ogre had her little boyfriend come and save the day.”
Jason laughed with his friends but Billy didn’t stop or slow down at all. He stormed right up to Jason and DECKED him. Jason fell back and you gasped, happy but surprised at the intensity of Billy’s punch.
“Yea well leave my girlfriend alone and you won’t have to see me again. If you fuck with her at ALL anymore, you’ll never walk again.”
Girlfriend? You were still stuck on that when Billy aggressively pulled you back towards his car. Jason could be heard groaning about a broken nose but you were focused on Billy.
“Ready?”
“Ready for what? What do you mean girlfriend? What the fuck happened back there??”
“I’ve been waiting for a reason to knock his dumb ass out. We’re basically already dating, I think you’re hot you think I’m hot don’t get your pantyhose in a twist.”
You were dumbfounded.
“You’re such a romantic Hargrove.”
You rolled your eyes, but Billy killed the car engine and sighed.
“Look, I want to take you on a date, like a real one and I want to be good to you the way you are to me; I just didn’t want to bring it up after I got into a fight. I wanted to ask you later. But since you’re being a brat about it, yeah. I want you to be my girlfriend.”
Jesus this boy was so dumb. You just laughed to yourself and nodded.
“Okay Billy. But you have to do this right. I’m not one of your groupies okay?”
He chuckled and eyed you.
“Oh I know. They dress so much better than you.”
“I WAS RUNNING LATE YOU FU—“
He shut you up with a way overdue kiss. This was going to be an interesting adventure.

Bill Hargrove being incredibly smart and intelligent is my most intense HC I will die for.
His entire existence is pure survival. You don’t survive very long if you’re not sharp enough to read your abuser, full stop. He’s also a poor kid and a scrappy mother fucker. He knows how to evaluate a situation. He knows how to roll with the punches and base his next move on the last. He’s quick on his feet and it translates to book smarts. He’s great at problem solving, which translates to a strong head for math and engineering, and well as a decent understanding of government and civics. That only leaves english/lit and his creativity saves his ass in that.
Of corse he’s creative, I honestly headcanon Billy as an artist as well. He’s mouthy. He talks MAD shit and that honestly takes a certain level of creativity and competence to come up with insults on the fly.
But also, the HC side. His only goal and priority in life is the immediate but a big part of that is wanting to get the fuck out and away from his father, and he knows the fastest, only honestly with his economic station, way to do that is college. He needs to not only have the grades to get in but he need a scholarship. He needs funding. He’s not getting a dime from Neil and he can’t get a loan without that asshole cosigning either, which is not happening. And he knows the best way to get the fuck out of hawkins and the fuck back west is getting into a UC. So he’s a lifeguard, and he’s on the basketball team, and the baseball team, because it makes his resume and his application look real good. He won’t get into fights at school because he is not letting a disciplinary record hold him back. He writes a sob story essay for his scholarships and applications about his mom leaving and his abusive neglectful alcoholic father and his little sister he takes care of. Becuase god willing he touches the right rich old ladies heart and he can get enough cash of off campus housing and take max the fuck with him because fuck does he not like the idea of leaving her alone with that fucker. He’s got a plan.
And he’s got the charm and scharism that
He doesn’t own much besides what he can fit in the trunk of (the old beater HE bought and fixed up so Neil can’t hold over him) his car and disappear in the middle of the night to avoid the fight.
He’s already got a PO Box set up in town so Neil doesn’t get the college mailers or acceptances.
I’m just so intense abt this HC.

D - Drunk
D is for Destroya (@destroya-hargrove) who is one of the kindest soul ever. 💜
I hope you will enjoy your present 🎁!
Rating: Teen and Up Relationship: Steve /Billy WT: mention of Neil Hargrove, Alcohol, homophobic language Words: 1118
Tumblr media
"What a shit hole." Billy says, opening a can of beer and gulping it down before crashing the can and throwing it away.
His car is his only joy, and even if it sucks that he has to share it with Maxine every fucking morning, by night it is just the two of them: Billy and his Camaro.
He cracks another can of beer open; he probably shouldn't, he already drank too much with the basketball team at the HideOut and if Neil caught him drunk it would be hell for him, but at this moment he really doesn't care.
Why the fuck did Neil choose to move from California to bumfuck Indiana is still a mystery to Billy. Yeah, he knows that finding his only son with his tongue buried deep in the mouth of another boy definitely had a role in Neil’s decision, but he could have just beat Billy and threatened him of killing him like usual, there was no need to move across the Country, right?
He grabs a cigarette and lights it, then he stares at the red cherry burning in the night, god he would give everything for a joint but he is not the kind of guy that buys that stuff, he is the one the others offer weed to because they want to get on his good side.
Well, at least he has a couple of beers more.
The familiar sound of a car getting closer distracts Billy from his thoughts. He is not surprised, the quarry is a quite famous make-out place, he just hoped that the boys were still at the HideOut and he could enjoy some solitude for once.
Billy turns just enough to see a familiar beemer parking next to his Camaro.
"Scratch it and you are dead, Harrington." Billy states, his eyes fixed on the moon.
"I'm quite sure I am a better driver than you are, Hargrove."
Billy glares at him: better driver, never, a safer driver, maybe.
"Why are you here? I see no pretty girl with you."
Steve snorts "Haven't you heard? I'm not the school sweetheart anymore, I'm much more of a pariah. Little Miss Perfect chose Byers over me and I got my face smashed by the school's new alpha, so no pretty girls in the near future I fear. Can I have one?" Steve asks, pointing at Billy's cigarette.
The blond boy gives him the packet and offers him the lighter, but Steve simply bends over the flame, cups Billy's hand with his, and drags a deep breath of smoke.
"God I needed this."
"It's just a cigarette." Billy replies, still feeling Steve's gentle touch on his hand like a permanent stain on his skin.
"Yeah, but sometimes a cigarette is just what you need to relieve the tension."
"Still fighting monsters?" he asks, staring at Steve's trunk.
"As always." the chestnut boy replies, exhaling white spirals of smoke.
Billy nods, after waking up that horrible night at Byers' house and finding a monster leaking from the fridge, Billy has discovered that there is a parallel dimension full of hungry monsters waiting to devour them, which might be one of the motifs why he is drinking, staring at the quarry and wondering if a jump from that height could kill him on the impact.
"Probably not, you are a big boy, but I guess you'll break at least a few bones, maybe some vertebrates, and then you'll be spending all your time on a chair depending on your father. How does it sound?"
"Pretty shitty actually."
Steve nods, stabbing the cigarette "Are you ready to go?"
"I still have one beer."
"I think you drank enough."
Billy lifts an eyebrow "I can still punch that pretty face of yours."
"I know you can, but you have to sober up before Neil sees you, so it's better if you cut this shit now and come home with me."
"Are you proposing, pretty boy?"
Steve smirks "I know I'm not your type. Now let's go." he says pointing at his car.
"We are not going to leave my car at the quarry!" Billy complains loudly, but when he gets off the hood he finds out that he is far more unstable than he thought.
"You are too drunk to drive so either you give me your keys and I drive it to my place, but everyone will know that you have been there, or we leave it here and come back later on to retrieve it."
Having his car at Harrington's is a very bad idea, so he begrudgingly agrees to leave it at the quarry, but before leaving they hide it in the nearby woods.
Steve's car is warm and welcoming, like him, Billy studies the school sweetheart while he sings a stupid pop song along with the radio.
In a different world, a world where Neil would not beat him just for thinking about it, they could be friends, maybe even best friends. They could rule the school and maybe even get into college together, being roommates, best friends forever, or any other stupid shit the girls say.
They could go on trips together, sleep in the same room, and share air, food, and affection.
Billy stares at Steve's plump lips and shakes his head, no, they couldn't be. He will always be a fucking fag and his thoughts will always be too dirty.
"You ok?" Steve asks, his eyes fixed on the road.
"Yeah... just more drunk than I thought."
Steve takes him to his room, offers him pajamas, and guides him toward the guest rooms where there is a bottle of water and a couple of headache pills.
“How?”
“Max called.” he replies, ready to leave the room.
Billy grabs Steve's wrist, there are so many things he would like to ask Steve that he can’t speak.
Don’t leave.
Stay with me.
Take care of me.
Please.
“Hey. It’s ok. You are fine. I’ll be right on the other side of the wall and I have a nailed bat under my bed. There are no monsters here.” Steve whispers, caressing his arm.
It’s not enough and it’s too much at the same time; Billy’s skin is bruised under the jeans jacket, but Steve’s touch soothes him.
“Can you stay with me until I fall asleep?” Billy feels so small right now and he knows that if Steve refuses him his heart will break.
“I can sleep with you if you want. We can have a sleepover, like if we were in middle school.” Steve proposes with a smile and Billy nods eagerly.
If during the night Billy’s head finds Steve’s chest it’s only because he is drunk.

"𝚁𝚎𝚍𝚎𝚖𝚙𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗" Platonic Yandere Billy Hargrove x child reader!
Tumblr media
I love stranger things, started it during the summer of 2019! But after Billy's death, it was REALLY difficult for me to get back to watching the series again. I really feel like he deserved redemption because he was the way he was because of misguidance. So out of angst, I'm gonna make an AU where he is still alive! :D
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS: In a different world, Billy Hargrove changes for the better...
Billy had you at eighteen, and your biological mother ditched you because she was not ready to be a parent so young.
He could not do the same because he knows exactly what it feels like to be abandoned, so despite the hardships that came with parenting, he did not regret it one bit.
He will be somewhat soft with you, but he can get violent when things don’t go his way. He’d never hurt you though, just punch walls and scream at the top of his lungs.
Cuteness aggression would be a daily problem because this guy would literally squeeze your face with his big hands and gush in adoration.
He would be fiercely protective of you, he has seen tough shit and would be damned if you’d be endangered.
It won’t be a surprise if you were hanging out with someone, and the next thing you know there’s a car following you both with music blasting out the windows.
He could not stand it if you were to ever be upset or downright ignore him, he’d see it as a sign of poor parenting.
You will often have to sneak out because he’d hardly let you out of the house.
You would be frustrated with him and put no effort into hiding it.
But guilt would consume you when you wake up in the middle of the night, only to find Billy stroking your cheek affectionately with tears in his eyes.
He didn’t want to fail you, especially to be a replica of Neil Hargrove.
At the end of the day, you’d appreciate him. Because not only was this man your Father, but your best friend. Someone who you could freely be yourself around without hesitation.

The Chief’s Daughter
Summary: It had been six years since your father left you behind in New York. However, now that your mother was gone, you had no choice but to drive to Hawkins to find him. That's where you meet Billy Hargrove, who turns your life upside down... literally.
Pairing: Billy Hargrove x Fem!Reader
Word Count: 3.1k
Warnings: language, blood
Chapter 9-
Tumblr media
Hopper took you to the hospital after dropping all the kids off at their homes including Billy and Max. To your relief, Hopper had spun some lie about why Billy took so long to get Max home and Neil Hargrove seemed to believe it.
The doctors said you just had a suffered a Grade 2 concussion, but after some must needed rest you would be okay.
El had slept for nearly 24 hours after draining her energy closing the gate and you weren't far off that either. Hopper had actually insisted for you to take Monday off school and you weren't going to argue about that because that meant you missed double math, so it was a win-win.
"You and Hopper patch things up?" Steve called out, jogging over to you as the Chief drove out the carpark after dropping you off.
His eye was still deeply bruised and you knew Billy would have similar marks too, you just hoped there were no new ones from Neil added to it.
"Not even close." You answered, throwing your backpack over your shoulder. "Did I miss much in class yesterday?"
Steve shook his head, "just lots of Pythagoras which I still don't understand. And having to deal with a worked-up Billy Hargrove on the basketball court. So just another Monday really."
"Wait, why was he worked up?"
You were almost positive that Hopper covering for Billy and Max the other night was enough to get Neil off his back, but maybe you were wrong.
"He was worried about you, especially when you didn't show up yesterday."
"Oh." Was all you could say before the familiar sound of the Camaro roared into school and you turned around to find the slick blue Chevy pull up in his usual carpark, Iron Maiden blasting through the open windows.
"Well, I don't want to give Hargrove another excuse to punch me." Steve said, motioning to his black eye. "I'll see you in class."
You waved goodbye as Steve walked towards the school before you began to make your way over to the Camaro just as Billy and Max climbed out.
"If you're not back here in time after basketball practice-" Billy started to say before Max cut him off.
"I'm skating home. I know." She said, rolling her eyes as she began to skate off towards Middle School next door.
Billy glared at the back of his sister's head before he locked the Camaro, but the glare on his face vanished when he saw you walking towards him. Instant relief washed over him and you found yourself sighing with relief noticing that the only bruises on his face were the ones from Steve.
"How's your head?" He asked, trying to act cool, but you could you tell he was worried.
"It's fine. Probably going to scar though."
Billy took a step towards you and lifted his hand, tracing his thumb gently over the butterfly stitches still over the cut. His bright blue eyes staring at it before meeting your gaze as he bit his lip.
"What is it?" You asked, knowing he wanted to say something, but was clearly second guessing himself.
He didn't say anything for the longest time before he grabbed your waist and pulled you into his body. You let out a small, surprised yelp at the sudden movement before his lips were on yours silencing you.
Billy Hargrove was kissing you in the school parking lot in front of everyone. Holy shit.
You quickly kissed him back, your hands coming up and cupping his face as he stepped back into the side of the Camaro while holding your hips firmly against his body.
The two of you only pulled apart when the school bell rang and then proceeded to make out and be late to first period late, but you figured it was worth it.
The school day dragged by, and you were sick of everyone asking about the cut on your forehead. Although, you were intrigued about the rumours that were spreading through the halls about Steve and Billy getting into a fight after showing up with marching bruises.
Some simply thought that the bruises were a mere coincidence and weren't connected. But others believed that Steve got fed up with Billy taking over his King title and finally did something about it. However, the most popular rumour rolling through Hawkins High was that Steve had tried to get with you and Billy found out about it.
Neither Billy nor Steve seemed to care about the rumours. Simply brushing them off whenever someone asked about it. Nobody really tried to ask you about it which wasn't a surprise since you didn't speak with anyone unless you were forced to for class.
You weren't at Hawkins to make friends, however, now that the whole Upside Down thing happened, Nancy, Jonathan and Steve had taken it upon themselves to interact with you more. It was mainly just small greetings in the hallways, but it was more than what you were expecting.
By time the bell rang for school, you were ready to go home. You were still a little fatigued from the concussion and had started to get a headache by third period, so of course when you walked to the carpark, Hoppers Chevy was nowhere to be seen.
You sighed and sat down on the curb while your fellow students walked past and left. The carpark becoming less and less full as the minutes ticked by and before you knew it, there was only a handful of cars left, most of which belonged to the basketball team who you knew had practice Tuesday afternoons.
Hopper had promised he would be waiting in the carpark after school to drive you home, but of course, he wasn't here. You should have seen that coming.
Logically, you knew he was probably busy at work. He was the Chief of Police after all, but a small part of you thought that maybe he had just forgotten about you and that hurt more than the headache you had.
"Hey, you're the Chief's daughter, right?" An unfamiliar voice called out.
You glanced over your shoulder to find a guy with long dark hair walking towards. You had seen him in class and around the place before. He sat with those nerds in the cafeteria, all wearing matching shirts and he was extremely loud, unafraid to speak his true thoughts.
He had never spoken to you before though. Most people didn't speak to you, so it wasn't that weird. It was how you liked it.
Eddie Munson.
You had heard of him. Most the school knew who he was. It was his second year as a Senior and was the local drug dealer. That was just common knowledge, so why the hell was he willingly talking to you?
"I am. And you sell drugs to teenagers. Shouldn't you be like, I don't know, avoiding the Chief's daughter and not talking to her?" You asked, looking over at him.
Eddie smiled in amusement, "that would be the smart thing, right? Lucky for you, I'm not so smart."
"That why you're repeating senior year?"
"Pretty much yeah. Although the way my grades are going, I'll be repeating next year too."
He walked over and plonked himself down on the curb beside you and you had absolutely no idea why he was still talking to you let alone sitting beside you.
"Rumour has it that Harrington tried to steal you from Hargrove. Explains their injuries, but it doesn't explain yours. What happened?" He asked, motioning towards the cut on your forehead.
"Rumour has it that you and your little cult worship the devil." You shot back, trying to avoid his question.
"Not a cult just a club for nerds."
You nodded, but the small action made your headache pulse causing you to wince a little. Stupid concussion.
"You okay?" Eddie asked, a hint of worry in his eyes.
"It's fine, just got a headache." You brushed off.
Eddie stared at you for a moment before he pulled his backpack from his shoulder and began rifling through the front pocket trying to find something before he eventually pulled out a packet of ibuprofen and held it out towards you.
"Really? Thought you'd have something a little stronger." You joked, taking the painkillers with a small smile.
"I might not be smart, but I'm not stupid enough to give weed to the Chief's daughter."
"Fair point." You agreed, popping a couple of the pills and swallowing them before handing the packet back. "Thank you."
Neither of you said anything for a few minutes as you sat in surprisingly comfortable silence, but you were still trying to wrack your brain on why Eddie Munson was sitting with you. He didn't even know you.
"Is there a reason that you're talking to me, Munson?" You eventually asked, unable to help yourself.
"Honestly? No. I was walking back to my van and saw you sitting here alone, you looked kinda sad. Figured you could use a friend."
You raised your eyebrow, "we're friends now?"
"Your boyfriend probably wouldn't like that. Just thought you could use some company while you waited for him... I mean, I figured he was taking you home since I can't see that loud Mustang anywhere." He explained, looking back at the vastly empty carpark behind him.
"No, actually the Chief is meant to pick me up. But, he got held up at work."
"Oh."
You snorted softly at the slightly panicked look on his face as he glanced over his shoulder like he expected Hopper to be standing behind him with handcuffs.
"Relax, he won't arrest you for talking to me and Billy won't punch you for it either. I'm my own person, those guys don't get a say in who I decide to talk to." You responded and Eddie nodded, still a little tense though. "You can go though if you want. I'm fine waiting by myself and thanks for the pain killers."
Eddie looked half tempted to accept the out you were giving him, but to your surprise he shook his head and remained seated and the two you ended up talking about Metallica for the next 20 minutes.
"Munson. The fuck you doing?" Billy's voice shouted from across the school.
You looked up to find him walking towards the two of you, his skin still glistening from his post training shower, but he was glaring at Eddie who just sighed dramatically and stood up.
"Hargrove, pleasure as always." Eddie said with a forced smile, but Billy just glared harder at him. "Relax, big boy, I was just giving her some pain killers. She has a headache."
You stood up too, throwing your backpack over your shoulder as Billy stopped in front of the two of you, his eyed glued to Eddie with an unreadable expression.
"Pain killers? You trying to get her high?"
"High on Ibuprofen? I don't think that's possible, but I do have some weed if you're interested?"
"Your weed is shit compared the stuff in Cali. Ain't wasting my money on that crap." Billy grunted, staring at him for a moment before he took a step towards you and leant forward kissing you a little more passionately than usual and you knew it was to make a point in front of Eddie.
"Relax, we were just talking." You whispered against his lips.
You half expected Billy to ark up and tell Eddie to stay away from you, but to your surprise and relief, Billy simply nodded.
"Why are you still here? School ended like an hour ago." Billy eventually said, pulling away.
"Well, I should get going. If you ever change your mind about the weed, you know where to find me, Hargrove. And Y/N... pretend that you didn't hear that." Eddie quickly said, already walking off towards his van.
You chuckled softly and Billy rolled his eyes, watching the other guy leave before he turned his attention back to you.
"Hopper was meant to pick me up. The Mustang is still kinda broken, remember?" You answered and Billy nodded as he glanced around and you knew he was looking for his sister. "I saw Max skate off with the other kids when she realised you weren't by the Camaro. I think they went to the arcade."
"Of course, she did." He sighed, rubbing his face with his hands. "Come on, I'll drive you home before I go and pick her up."
You nodded and followed Billy over to the Camaro, Iron Maiden still playing from his drive this morning as he reversed out the carpark before you gave him instructions on how to get to Hopper’s cabin.
The Mustang was parked out the front of the cabin after Hopper got it towed back from the junkyard, but it still didn't work and you didn't exactly have the money to fix it.
"I can take a look at her, if you want?" Billy offered, pulling the Camaro up beside your Mustang.
Wait, Billy knew how to fix cars?
"I know the basics. I do my own maintenance on the Camaro." He said as if he knew what you were thinking. "I can't guarantee that I'll be able to fix it, but I can take a look."
So, that's how you found yourself sitting on the porch steps while Billy leant over the hood of the Mustang working with the spare tools of Hoppers that you found in the cabin.
"How was school?" El asked, walking out the cabin and sitting down beside you.
"It was okay. I think I made a new friend." You admitted causing the girl to smile brightly.
"A friend like Billy?" She asked, innocently.
You shook your head, "no, not like Billy. Billy and I are... we're like you and Mike."
"He's your boyfriend?"
"Yeah."
"I like him."
That caused you to smile as you glanced down at El to find her watching Billy work on the Mustang curiously. You followed her line of sight and smiled too, but that smile quickly vanished when you saw the Police car pulling up behind the Camaro.
Shit.
You were on your feet in an instant, knowing that Hopper wouldn't be happy that you were still seeing Billy, let alone Billy being here at the cabin that nobody was meant to know the location of.
Billy stopped what he was doing when he heard the Chevy pull up and quickly lifted his head from under the hood and froze when he saw the Chief climbing out the other car.
"Hargrove-"
"Hopper." You quickly said, not giving him a chance to start yelling at Billy "He picked me up from school when you didn't show and offered to take a look at my car while he was here."
Hopper nodded, glancing over at you and El before looking over at Billy. A million different emotions washed over his face, but they passed before you could place any of them.
"Hargrove, go home." Hopper eventually ordered.
"Yes, sir."
He closed the hood of the Mustang before climbing into the Camaro and reversing out the long driveway. It wasn't until the Camaro was out of eyesight that Hopper turned back towards you.
"I told you-"
"To stay away from him. Yeah, I know, I ignored you perfectly fine the first twenty times you told me."
"Don't be mad. Billy is good." El quickly said, standing up beside you.
Hopper sighed, "El-"
"He is good. Like Mike."
"I don't care. What I do care about is my eldest daughter thinking it's okay to ignore my instructions. I have just about had it with your little rebel attitude." Hopper warned, staring at you with a stern expression.
"Like I give a shit."
"Don't fight." El said softly, looking up between the two of you with big brown eyes.
"We're not... we're not fighting. We're just talking. El, why don't you go inside? Y/N and I need to talk in private."
El bit her lip and stared at Hopper for a moment before glancing over at you and you realised that the girl was waiting for your permission to leave. She was willingly to ignore Hopper's instruction and stay with you if you wanted her too.
You smiled softly, "it's okay. Go inside, kiddo."
El nodded glancing over at Hopper one last time before she climbed up the steps of the porch and walked inside, leaving you standing with Hopper who seemed to be thinking heavily about what he wanted to say next.
"Look, I'm trying, Y/N, okay? I don't know what I'm meant to do here, this isn't easy for me."
"And you think this is easy for me?" You asked in disbelief. "My mother died. She died and suddenly I'm alone in New York trying to organise her funeral and then Child Services show up and threaten to take me into foster care if I don't move to Hawkins with you-"
"Shit, kid."
"-and then I finally find you in Hawkins and you don't even want me! I mean, of course you don't want me. You left me for a reason, so why would things be any different now, right? But, I don't have a choice, so I have to stay and live in this tiny cabin in the middle of nowhere with a father that hates me and a little girl who is apparently my new sister. And I love El, she's amazing, but she has superpowers and I find out about the Upside Down and I have to fight Demo-dogs and even after all of that, I'm still stuck with living with a father that doesn't want me and he thinks this easy for me?"
You were breathing heavily by the time you finished and you knew you were getting yourself worked up, but you couldn't seem to calm yourself down.
"This isn't easy for anyone and I don't hate you." Hopper eventually replied, but you just chuckled shaking your head. "Is this because I forgot to pick you up from school?"
"Oh, so you did forget about me?"
He sighed, "I'm sorry I didn't pick you up from school like I promised. I was busy, I got-"
"Held up at work? Yeah, I figured." You mumbled, folding your arms across your chest.
"Watch the attitude."
"You promised you'd pick me up. But, I sat there for over an hour and you didn't show. If Billy didn't take me home, I'd still be sitting at the school freezing my ass off waiting for you to show up."
"I was caught up at work-"
"How about you stop focusing on your job and be a dad? I mean, you go to work and leave El alone in this cabin for over eight hours a day. That's not right!" You snapped, glaring at him.
"Then what do you want me to do? I need to pay the bills to keep a roof over your ungrateful head and food on the table."
"What do I want you to do? I want you to just be a dad." You admitted softly, all the fight and anger leaving your voice.
"I'm not just a father. I'm the Chief of Police and you are not a child anymore." He replied sternly and you just smiled sadly and shook your head.
"I never was."
That was all you said before you walked up the stairs of the porch towards the front door. You were done with this conversation. You were done with everything.
"Hey, don't walk away!" Hopper shouted.
"You taught me how." You replied over your shoulder before slamming the cabin door closed behind you.
