The problem with big fandoms (using "problem" in a very loose sense here) is that it's really hard to stumble across the weird niche undertagged stuff when its being buried in five million coffee shop/royalty/high school/soulmate aus. If there are 150 works in the tag total you can look through very quickly and find anything that appeals to you. When there are over a million it is much harder to do that.

#im very into a genre of fic i like to think of as #'canon adjacent but we got silly with it' #like crack treated seriously and very specific canon divergences and obscure crossovers #the lore is intact but the plot diverges #or it doesnt even technically diverge its just set pre- or post-canon or focusing on side characters #i want two characters who never met in canon running into each other and getting into shenaningans #i want time travel fix it but only for this one specific guy who doesnt know or care what the protagonists are doing #au where due to some cascading nonsense the plots of season 1 and 10 are happening at the same time #this specific character didnt get killed off and is just sort of around now #au where everything is the same but one of the protagonists is some sort of creature #unfortunately this is a very broad category #and it is impossibly to effectively filter out everything that does not fit the bill while still including everything that does #i can filter out my notps but if im ambivalent towards the juggernaut ship of the fandom that doesnt help much #fanfic

Summary for the klance soulmate au fic I'm going to be writing

Keith has seen in black and white his entire life. He knows that this means that somewhere out there is his soulmate, his other half, his perfect match, the person whose touch will allow him to see the world in color. Keith has no desire to meet them, however. From the moment he understood what seeing in grayscale meant, he wore gloves to avoid touching anything or anyone directly. When he came to the Garrison and started seeing splashes of color, he ignored them, hoping to delay the inevitable meeting. Keith thinks he’s safe after being booted from the Garrison, but when a Garrison cadet interrupts him from rescuing Shiro, all that changes.

i'll be frank, unless I do actually go through with making my own story about personified nations I doubt I'm ever truly leaving the hetalia fandom. I suppose there will be periods where I'll be less into it and focus on other things, but at the end of the day I am much too fond of these characters (or well, the versions of these characters that I have in my head) and the concept in general(tbh i simply just love history). I love the OCs I have made because of Hetalia as well, althought I'll definitely take them with me wherever I shall go (I'll also take my characterization of some characters as well).

oh yeah no i haven't really talked about those Important Things yet! mostly because i'm still solidifying how they work in my mind... i try my best to adhere to canon, since to me aus are an exploration of the source / characters, so... its still tenuous. i have to think and consider and run parallel - there's a balance i'm still trying to find

like The Pit™️ (the spiral/eye void under Home) in Lights Out is gonna be different from the canon one since i started thinking about the au before the update. and the update changed my perception / theories on what the void is! but the au Pit™️ needs to remain mostly the way it originally was, or a lot of "plot" points fall apart
