IM THE PERSON WHO WAS TALKING ABOUT THINGS HAVE GOTTEN WORSE SINCE WE LAST SPOKE A FEW DAYS AGO And i agree about how sad it is that most queer horror authors i dont vibe with. do you have any you DO like? im always on the lookout for more and from what i’ve seen of your book taste on here we have pretty similar taste in books. can be any genre of horror tbh im not picky
hehehe yes i'd love to give u some recommendations! though if i'm being honest i really haven't found that many authors in the genre that i really vibe with yet. im still on the hunt... may leitz is probably the only one i can recommend that is kinda in the same vein as the "popular" ones, but Leitz is someone who i think does well balancing the extreme aspects of it with characters that are actually interesting and sympathetic to read (as opposed to just one-dimensional cannon fodder for random violence)
i don't know if any of these authors actually refer to themselves as "queer horror" authors nor do i know with certainty if all of them are a part of the lgbt community, but um. well i like their books. these also all aren't strictly about the characters identity; some focus more on it than others so i'll just say it's horror + lgbt characters.
i'll start with extreme horror:
fluids by may leitz - this will be the most extreme book i recommend, and i've talked about it a few times before. it's about two women, named Dahlia and Lauren, who meet on tinder during the pandemic, and after only a few days of talking Lauren takes it upon herself to drive to Dahlia's hometown and try and "save" her. things escalate, and the two women's paths diverge. cw: extreme violence and gore, rape, incest (the two girls pretend to be related), emetophobia, suicide, eating disorder, murder, literally everything you can think of. this is Extreme Horror, and i wouldn't recommend this one for anyone that's not already familiar with the genre.
girl flesh by may leitz - while i didn't like this one as much as fluids, i'm just a fan of may leitz's writing in general so i'd still recommend it. this one has a bit of a pacing problem & does a lot of telling rather than showing, but i like the direction leitz takes this one in the end. i've talked about this one before too so you might remember me rambling about it. this one is about two women who are kidnapped and wake up restrained in a dirty hotel in the middle of the texas mesa. they work together to escape their captors as well as the wild mesa and maybe even fall in love a little bit on the way. cw: extreme violence, gore, transphobia/deadnaming, eating disorder, emetophobia, self-harm, rape. this one isn't as extreme as fluids but i'd still be cautious with it.
to be devoured by sara tantlinger - this one is a short novella you can read in one sitting. Andi really really really wants to know what carrion tastes like. she's fascinated by the vultures that circle the edge of her property, but her fascination soon turns to obsession, and Andi will stop at nothing to learn their secrets. cw: blood consumption, cannibalism, violence and gore, very graphic animal harm and animal death
okay now the rest are just more general horror:
house of hunger by alexis henderson - loosely based on the legend of Elizabeth of Bathory, this story takes place in a society that runs on blood. Marion travels to the House of Hunger to begin her term as a bloodmaid under Countess Lisavet, who has a mysterious ailment that renders her weak and bedbound unless she has a constant flow of blood to treat it. Marion gets to know the other bloodmaids, and in time begins to realize not all is as it seems at the House of Hunger. cw: blood consumption, violence, abusive relationships/gaslighting, death
alexis henderson has also written the year of the witching, and she just announced an academy for liars. i really like her writing so i plan to check out her other work soon-ish.
apparitions by adam pottle - again i talked about this one recently so you may have seen it already, but i NEED more people to read this book. this follows the story of a young man who was born deaf and raised in an abusive household until he was able to escape as a teenager, only to be institutionalized immediately after. there he meets another deaf teen, and for the first time in his life, he has a language that he can speak with and can finally be understood. cw: child abuse, institutionalization, homophobia, abusive relationship, ableism, violence, death, religious trauma, animal harm and animal death.
the luminous dead by caitlin starling - gyre price is a lone caver swaddled inside a hi-tech suit that allows her to dive deep underground to map mineral deposits off-planet. however, the person on the other end of the suit has other plans, and easily takes control of gyre and her suit, putting the two at odds with each other as gyre spirals into uncertainty and paranoia while also having to deal with the terrifying presence of the tunneler. cw: claustrophobia, death, forced drugging, violence, gore, abusive/toxic relationship
caitlin starling also has a few other books though i haven't gotten around to reading them yet and i honestly haven't heard much about them so i can't say how they compare, but the luminous dead is one of my favorites of all time.
the Sworn Soldier series by T. Kingfisher - i love these books, they're just short fun horror stories with a really charming main character. Alex Easton is a retired soldier from Gallacia, and has their own special pronouns in Gallacian (kan/kanself) as part of their occupation and culture, and is what we would consider nonbinary (not all soldiers identify this way, but Alex does). vicars in Gallacia use van/vanself, there are different pronouns for children and adults, etc. i think it's just really interesting and i enjoy what the author has done with the worldbuilding and language, and how seamlessly it fits into her writing. the first book is a retelling of the fall of the house of usher (and is the stronger of the two) while the second one has Alex returning home to Gallacia and facing off with an old Gallacian superstition that's haunting their family cottage.
again i don't really know how T. Kingfisher/Ursula Vernon personally identifies but i do recommend her writing regardless, she's written other horror books as well as some fantasy books & she's just incredibly skilled imo, easy and fun to read.
most of my TBR that i'm working towards is horror so maybe i'll update this post later with more.... i'm currently reading providence girls by morgan dante and into the drowning deep by mira grant.
morgan dante has a few other books that are all some flavor of gothic horror/romance and i'm very excited for their new book that just came out TODAY that's a carmilla/elizabeth of bathory reimagining. i'm planning on reading that Immediately (i preordered it) so i'll report back for it and once i finish providence girls, too.
the next few books on my TBR that are all lgbt + horror:
The Seep by Chana Porter
Thirst by Marina Yuszczuk
A Dowry of Blood & An Education in Malice, both by S.T. Gibson
Little Rot by Akwaeke Emezi (i think this one is a thriller actually and also isnt out yet but whatever. i recommend this author, they genre-hop a lot & have a decent amount of work published already)
Sorrowland by Rivers Solomon
and of course i always recommend looking up content warnings if you need to especially for the last few since i haven't read them myself and can't vouch for them just yet. but ummm hopefully you see something you like 😭 i'll stop yapping <3

He's capable of charming god
For @steddiemicrofic September prompt "Charm", to which my brain screamed Hogwarts AU, sorry not sorry. T | WC 548 | CW Slytherin!Eddie | Hogwarts AU
“Yellow is capable of charming god.” - Vincent van Gogh, my insane little yellow lover whose quote I’ve found while looking for a title and it was oh so fitting
Steve had a crush.
It reached an all-time peak in his last year, when the Slytherin he was eyeing, who should be far away from his table, had befriended one of his fellow Hufflepuffs.
"Pathetic," Robin whispered as he flipped through his potions textbook without reading, eyes focused on Eddie and Chrissy, who was tying up his long dark hair with her Hufflepuff-colored scrunchie.
"Robin," he wheezed.
"I know, I'm sorry." She rolled her eyes. "Are you gonna grow out your hair now? Share hair accessories with Munson?"
Steve has been considering it.
Robin slapped him on the arm.
"Dude!"
"I know!" he hissed.
The sight of Eddie wearing Chrissy's scrunchie was seared into his brain. The contrast of yellow to his dark hair and metalhead shtick buzzed behind his eyes and the idea of him in something of Steve's was growing into a fixation.
Whenever he passed him, hair flowing, Steve's hands twitched to braid them, to tie them with anything, his fucking tie if he had to. At some point, he even got a yellow handkerchief and started wearing it in his pants’ pocket just like Eddie did.
"I know," he sighed.
Capital ‘P’ pathetic.
But all the Robin-induced insults went forgotten when she waved a piece of parchment in his face one November afternoon.
"What is this," he frowned at her flatly. He stilled her wrist to read ‘Eddie Munson’ scrawled on the paper in the ugliest handwriting he'd ever seen.
"Your secret giftee!" she screeched loudly.
"What?!"
"Eddie signed up for Secret Santa and I, your best friend, pulled on some strings, made some exchanges, and voila!"
She was beaming with smug satisfaction, appropriately, but Steve's mind was already racing with possibilities..
"What am I supposed to give him?"
As Eddie opened the box and saw a plain black scrunchie, Steve rushed with explanations.
"I've charmed it so it responds to music. Your hair will change with what you’re listening to."
Eddie blinked at him, surprise evident.
"Like what?"
"Um, it gets flowy with ballads, and for metal, I know it’s your favorite, the hair gets big and puffy. Well, you know. And uh, it's based on a mood-based spell? So their tips get red with love songs and so on."
Of course he had to mention love of all things, his heart now thudding as he watched Eddie tie his hair. With a scrunchie from Steve. He pulled a strand in front of his face and observed it lighten.
"Yellow means…?"
"Uh, happy," Steve admitted bashfully. At least he knew his gift was a success. Eddie's eyes observed him like a hawk.
"Does it have to be in my hair to work?" He questioned with a weird tilt to his tone.
"Wearing it on your wrist will work too."
"What’s pink?"
"Affection." He knew the colors by heart after months of perfecting the charm. He had hair ties everywhere and he tested them all himself.
He tested them all himself.
One was currently sitting on his wrist and Eddie… Eddie was looking at his hair.
"And gold?"
They both watched as the tip of his ponytail started shining in the candlelights.
"Charmed."
"Huh. I guess I am," Eddie grinned at him. And the pink of his dimpled cheeks needed no spellbook to read.

Nancy Wheeler x fem!Reader
summary: you want nancy but you don’t know if nancy would want you
inspired by She by dodie
800 words
warnings: angst
tumblr stop screwing up my spacing challenge
You were smart and in all of the hardest classes at Hawkins High School. The only class you struggled with in your junior year was physics. Your struggle confused everyone who knew you because you had always been a science and math person. You had always thrived with the logic of science and math and the way there was always a right or wrong answer. It wasn't the concept of physics or the contents of the class that caused the worst grade of your junior year. It was the people in it.
Actually, one person in it.
At the beginning of the year, you had all gotten the opportunity to choose the person you wanted to share a two-person desk with.
"The seating chart would not be changed all year. No exceptions," Ms. Davis had droned. So you were adamant to pick someone god. On the first day of class, you discovered that you had physics with Nancy Wheeler. The two of you had known each other your whole life but were never close. Nancy was kind and you'd always admired her beauty and generosity. In recent years, she had also grown into a bit of a badass, not to mention she was extremely intelligent.
These were just some of the reasons you had asked her to sit together. However, she hadn't just helped you with physics. You and Nancy had become best friends. You two had sleepovers almost every week and you two knew everything about each other, you knew how she smelled and her favorite chapstick flavor. However, your feelings for her were different than hers for you. She had an effect on you that you had never had with a girl before.
You knew her feelings weren't reciprocated. The majority of the conversations the two of you had at sleepovers were about her boyfriend, Jonathon. You knew you would be better for Nancy though. It's not that Jonathon was a bad boyfriend by any means, but you were a better match, you could provide Nancy with everything she had ever wanted. But you knew that you couldn't think like that. You weren't allowed to like her.
Nancy Wheeler was a girl who liked boys.
----------
"Y/N, you gotta stop looking at her like that," Robin whispered while luffing your arm, noting your wistful gaze toward Nancy and Jonathon browsing Family Video's selection. You and Robin had been friends for a while, both being considered Hawkins High outcasts. The two of you worked together alongside Steve Harrington at Scoops Ahoy earlier in the summer, but due to the incidents at Starcourt, you were forced to relocate. The three of you, with a newfound bond, applied together at Family Video.
At the time, it seemed like a good idea. Before you realized Jonathon's affinity for movies he dragged Nancy into.
"I know..." you said slowly, looking away. You are not allowed to look at her like that. That was a job for boyfriends.
"I mean you never know, Y/N/N, maybe she likes girls as well," Steve offered, "you'll never know until you tell her."
You shook your head immediately, "No. No, I couldn't. She means everything to me, I can't lose her." Robin and Steve exchanged a look. "I mean it's not that bad. She's pretty when she's happy.." You smile weakly while gazing at Nancy, knowing you cant risk ruining the bright smile on her face. She glanced over at you and offered a small wave, not waiting for a response before turning back to the wall of movies. You sucked in a sharp breath and looked at your feet again, biting your lip to stop the tears from falling.
"Maybe she just... doesn't know you're an option?" Robin egged, willing you not to feel this way after witnessing the encounter, "let her know."
"Robin, it's okay," you turned to her, smiling to reassure her. "I'm okay. I’m her best friend, and her best friend wouldn't sacrifice her happiness for a selfish reason."
Robin nodded. She knew you were right, but that's not what you wanted. More than anything, you wanted to be with Nancy.
----------
Nancy was a writer, she was comfortable with the grey area of literature, but was also very versed in the logic of science and math, the right and wrong. You were only fond of the logic, you didn't understand that grey area that was up for interpretation. There was no 'maybe' or 'possibly' to you. Only 'yes' and 'no', 'right' and 'wrong'.
Your mind was made. Nancy had never talked about liking girls with you, she rarely talked about anything other than her relationships and schoolwork and journalism. In your mind, this was her expression of telling you that she only liked guys. You were each other's best friend, out of all people, you would be the first to know about her sexuality.
But maybe the real reason Nancy didn't tell you was that she was scared of losing you.

Do you have any more details on revived bedman au? It seems interesting
oh my revived bedman au ahaha it's been so long since i last touched on it (since i made it before even strive bedman? was announced) but mostly it's about delilah finding a way to revive back her brother, with some help from asuka and faust. asuka was the one who made the halo device for bedman so he can stay awake (what the halo can do are already noted in the art i did). he's still powerful but just limited unless he goes to sleep. since the au was before st bedman?, the story at that point only follows up to after story canon so the bed is gone after it fell down. bedman looked for it and found it and reused some of the parts (hence the arms since in here he's fighting as himself and not just using the bed anymore as a full on weapon while he sleeps). he can still summon the head to do stuff like task a ahaha. i made this au mostly for him to get back and find himself again after everything that happened. of all the wrongs he did and the things he lost. a redemption for him yeah ahaha he still has his faults and urges but slowly he's trying to be a bit better, esp for delilah who he's reunited with now and to be given this rare opportunity back in life.

'im not stalking' you got your goons to ss a mutuals post though. Sure feels like stalking even though you piss yourself that 'this dwama is owver' or whatever fucking shit your impacted fucking prefrontal cortex made you shit out.
'i dont want to fuel the fire' then be your fucking age, shitnips. No fucking 19 year old (no '''mature''' one at fucking least) is shitting and crying over ''the evil evil antis'' to your fucking degree. I've said i'll shut up when you do before.
'im just really passionate about the term' saying the r slur is still ableist, yes, we're both autistic, please shut up you inbred fuckbitch.
'im not a stalker' yet you still mention a term that you wouldnt know fuck from ass about.
'that character isnt related to them' yet you refer to both of them as antishipper simba still?
feralfucker was used so we didn't need to constantly censor it because its a fucking slur, nobody is constantly thinking of you when they make shit except your 'totally real' gf and your analnosers, self centered ass. So sorry people aren't a fucking ableist like you.
So funny to use a slur, one nobody should be reclaiming, as an insult, even though you said it was 'just for the radqueer term,' you don't see me calling you a tranny or faggot or queer or any shit.
Get a hobby, Munch, better yet a fucking job, move out of your poor mom's house. Bootlickers too. I'm not shutting up until I don't get shit reported back about how a stalker is getting sympathy.
Anons are off. Bitch on main if you're gonna be talking shit, pussies.
