#i wonder if we can expect the actual P&P love scenes in S3?

I’m willing to bet a lot of excellent meta has already been written about this, and I won’t pretend it’s anything more than a vaguely coherent thought, but I just re-read Pride and Prejudice and it seems so interesting to me how neither Aziraphale’s cotillion balls nor Crowley’s rainstorm-awning combo are the point in the story where the two characters actually understand each other.

The rainstorm scene is only in the 2005 P&P movie (which makes sense - Crowley doesn’t read, but he likes movies), and it’s obviously the first marriage proposal, which is a complete disaster. Both Darcy and Elizabeth leave the scene enraged and offended. Granted, this is the dialogue that sets their internal process of change into motion - but it’s definitely not the point when they ‘realise they were made for each other’.

The cotillion balls are what sparks their conflict in the first place! Elizabeth leaves the first ball insulted by Darcy’s refusal to dance with her (she’s not handsome enough to tempt him, is she?) and this initial dislike is the strong foundation upon which she builds her terrible opinion of him (she even states later in the novel that she let herself be blinded by first impressions). The second ball is peak Bennet shame - Lydia and Kitty are insufferable, Mary makes a fool of herself at the piano, Mr Bennet is absurd, Mrs Bennet even arranges for the carriage to arrive late, much to everyone else’s embarrassment. Darcy sees all this folly in full display and decides he has to save Bingley from marrying Jane - especially since he doesn’t think Jane loves him back - thus alienating any residual goodwill in Lizzie’s heart. The balls are not the place where the characters ‘realise they had deeply misunderstood each other, and are actually deeply in love’; they’re quite the opposite!

I’m not sure if the parallels are intended to be read this literally (there is no kiss in the rainstorm scene, after all) but they’re still fun to think about.

Where does this leave Beverly and Jean-Luc?

I will start by saying this is all pure speculation and assumption at this point. Nothing I say is fact or spoilers when it comes to S3 of Picard.

I entered this crazy ship called P/C aka Picard and Crusher just 3 months ago. My husband, a huge TNG fan since his 4th birthday, received the entire collection for Christmas. He began re-watching the series and unintentionally got me involved. He mentioned Crusher and Picard and I eagerly wanted to know more. My past of shipping doomed romances should have been a clue when I fell in love with P/C so I should have already known that this was not going to end well. The last season of TNG gave me false hope and sense of security when the writers teased of a future P/C romance. All that was dashed, however, when I saw the movies. What really dashed my hopes was listening to Gates McFadden (aka Beverly Crusher) express her disappointment in multiple podcast interviews. Did that make me jump ship? absolutely not. Patrick and Gates natural chemistry is what keeps me loving them, even more so knowing nothing ever happened between P/C.

Fast forward 3 months and finally binge watching ST: Picard for the first time. I found the first season intriguing and It did not bother me so much of no mention of Beverly as usually the first season is about character development and entering backstory. I also know they didn’t want it to be TNG part 2 and I can totally get behind that. You do not want to revive a beloved show and/or character and make it to much like the first one (*cough* The Force Awakens *cough*). Watching S2 of Picard did bring on disappointment. Not only because of the crazy back and forth writing (that in some cases did not make sense) but because, by now, I would expect to hear any reference of his Enterprise-D/E past. The fact there wasn’t one made Jean-Luc into a character I no longer recognized; Unlike S1 where we did get at least one reunion and it was magical. I can get behind Picard’s lack of expression and open to love due to his traumatic past (barely) but what I can’t get behind is forcing a love story that only had a few minutes of screen time. Yes, he has known Laris for 16 years and yes, she had properly mourned her husband after a year and a half; however, the fans did not get to witness this relationship and so we did not get to see the development. Unlike we did with Beverly in TNG.

I will break a few key moments that makes me wonder what exactly are the show-runners trying to make. Yes, the season ended with an open question. He asked her for a second chance but she did not answer, Laris only smiled. Is this just an opening for a possible relationship? Are they hinting that maybe a relationship did try and it did not work out due to her dying or something else? Again, only speculation but it does make your mind go crazy in wondering where this is headed; especially knowing Beverly Crusher will be in multiple episodes in S3. Maybe even a love triangle where Picard is finally open to a possible romance, only to be confused on who he really wants. Again, only speculation.

In TNG, the first season definitely speculated a history and a love. In classic Picard fashion, he closes himself off and retreats to a professional relationship with Beverly. She also keeps it professional, even though we saw in multiple instances how she truly felt and how it hurt her in some way. (IE: Arsenal of Freedom and We will always have Paris). Gates leaving in S2 didn’t help the relationship aspect, in fact, I think it held it back even after she returned and the new Show-runners and writers were not sure how to approach this. We did get great scenes in the following seasons but I felt it wasn’t until S6 where It started to make sense and Picard started to really let Beverly in. As much as Picard had his flings (Vash, Janice and whoever AF was), the only time he actually tried for a relationship was with Daren. It was almost like he was testing the waters to see if he could have a relationship with one of his officers. It clearly didn’t work and it made him close off yet again. As S7 approached and Attached came along, this was finally the moment for fans to see just where this relationship is headed. Again, Picard being himself, lies to Beverly, suggesting his feelings were no longer there. She clearly sensed he was holding back but didn’t push it. She did admit of hearing his dreams, which to this day, we do not know what those dreams were. Did it expose his true feelings? Did it expose why he never opened up? We just don’t know and right now, it isn’t that important. What is important is how the episode ended, with Beverly turning down Picard. If we look at this episode now with a fresh lens and know Picard’s past with his mom, this was his one moment he actual opened up and wanted to try with Beverly. With her telling him “We should be afraid” to explore those feelings they have, Picard closes himself off and this time for good. When All Good Things comes into play, Picard sees he had a future with Beverly, they share a sweet kiss in his Ready Room (which by his smile, he was happy) but then he saw in the future that they divorced. Even though Beverly has no memory of this and he did change the course of history, Picard does remember and I feel he uses that as an excuse that it just wouldn’t work out with Beverly, even though he loves her.

Fast forward the movies/Picard and we do not get a P/C happily ever after. I guess some fans (and I am saying that very heavyhearted) might be okay with P/C not being endgame, as LONG as the story makes sense. What exactly is Terry and the gang of ST: Picard plan on? His tweets of him knowing Beverly and we are not ready for her makes me think he has a kick ass story for our feisty redhead. With Gates tweeting how the first 6 episodes are AWESOME, helps the blow a little bit, but the question of how does Laris fits in all of this still painfully lingers for us P/C shippers. I really hope the show-runners do not waste the 6 years of chemistry and sexual tension these two had. Hey, they may even say he did try and she turned him down again and that is why he was alone all these years and that is why he is asking Laris for a second chance instead of Beverly. We just do not know what they have in store for Beverly and how her relationship with Picard plays into that.

I will also express how much I do NOT hate Laris. I think Orla Brady did fantastic and it is not her fault how her character(s) were written in the show. However, her fate on the show is still up in the air due to the fact she has been uncomfortably silent since the Finale. Is this a sign that Laris is not involved and the Finale was just a red herring for things to come in S3? Is this their way of keeping the P/C secrets hush hush and let the fans believe Picard and Laris are a couple? It honestly can go either way and our roller-coaster will only get bumpier as time goes on and when it gets closer to S3.

I guess the only two hints we can try and decipher are the two lines said in the teaser trailer of S3. Jean-Luc says “I am not a man who needs a legacy” and Beverly saying “Jean-Luc, when the galaxy comes calling, you love it”. What does his legacy have to do with his former shipmates? Why would Beverly say that to him? and what was he writing? Why is he on another adventure that he needed his old comrades help with? Also, who called for him on his communicator? These questions burn so bright that fans are losing their mind over it and honestly, for someone who only has been in this community for a short time, I can completely understand why the unknown is so scary. We have had wonderful stories (IE: Troi and Riker) and we have had not so wonderful stories (IE: Data; Picard/Crusher). Fans are nervous and as much as the anticipation of the reunion makes any fan excited, the anxiety of the unknown is what floods our minds. That being said, I *HOPE* that the show-runners will give a proper send off that the majority of fans would like to see. If his legacy is to be continued, and as the last season showed timelines can be changed, how hard would it be for them to fix what was lost and have Beverly and Picard together with a legacy of their own. Remember, her only legacy is across time and space and we do not know where that leaves her. Hopefully with Picard as they both have lost so much that finding their true path and happiness seems better if it were together.

PS. I will like to add that if Wil is in S3 of Picard, I would like to believe it was Wesley who turned on his communicator. I can see Wes bringing the gang back together again for one final mission that he knows only they can do. :D

5x07 Reaction Post

The Fox in the Hen House...or you know, that Fox you convinced yourself was a pet despite repeated reminders he preferred to bite your face off, bites some faces off....

Love that the getting ready montage wasn’t just for the ladies.  Holsters and ties should be like an entire accepted dress code IMO.

I also love that Teresa emerging in full Queenpin regalia for the first time (low bun/all white/everything) was to mark her entrance into legitimate business and that the aspirational Queenpin we’ve seen over the seasons represented that sort of freedom, not her cartel ascension.  

“Teresa doesn’t take no for an answer.” “Especially not from us.” This is the Wonder Twin interaction we deserve.

Kelly Anne inviting Dumas to their safe house.   Girl what?  WHAT? That’s putting a lot of faith in an armed man with a grudge but okay.  

Also I’m with James on this one: too many eyes on them now.  They’re in this limbo between legit LEGIT and kinda sorta legit while participating in a shitload of illegal activities that is just ripe for federal charges.  Speaking of which, remember the feds? Did Kelly Anne forget to invite them too? :P

The Jeresa toast scene was lovely.  Loved Teresa asking James how he was, the light flirting, the way James heard her footsteps and KNEW it was her.

And L M A O at James’ whole ‘are you legit enough we can bang’ vibe check.  Honestly HOW did something not happen.  Those heart eyes were BEYOND intimate.  When they jumped to the next morning I full on booed. Listen, there’s a lot of unrealistic stuff on this show but that might have been THE most unrealistic lol. There’s just no way they didn’t have victory sex in view of her waterfront diorama, I do not believe it. Nope.

SO glad to see Marcel and a Marcel (albeit subdued) Suit back.  Loved that he got a condensed Queenpin arc in like three scenes, (I feel like only Alimi could sell that and sell that he did).  Though I have to wonder if by having Marcel come to these realizations about what you give up for power and rejecting it, they won’t go a different route for Teresa in a few eps? 

Although in a way, Marcel choosing to leave was the same thing driving Teresa to stay: she chose her people.

Teresa saying “you’d have done the same thing” to Marcel....okay but wasn’t it just like a few weeks ago in show time that he chose Teresa over the Judge wanting his help to either kill her or send her to jail?  Also perhaps give him a full 24 hours outside before expecting him to re-join the group text ya know??

And not sure you want to repeat almost word for word what Pecas said to you right before you shot him for setting you up, T.  As comparisons go that one is not ideal.

James telling Teresa to cover him in a gun fight??? That is what Action Couple dreams are made of, friends. The only thing that would have been better is if they had run inside the building for a 2x04/3x02 style emotionally fraught life and death conversation too but I have come to accept the writers do not agree with me on the need for those scenes this season and I’ll take what I can get.

The Castel not being on screen thing is unfortunate but are we finally circling back around to Teresa getting too big for the Devon/Castel deal?  My dramatic ass has been sustained by that potential drama (especially the idea that Devon could leverage James in that situation) since S3 finale, could it actually finally happen?

Boaz and Teresa both doing coke several times on screen this ep...Also Teresa of all people thinking Boaz’s childhood friend might be her ally.  

Pote a) saying “pee pee” in reference to his unborn child and b) pausing to take a final drag from his cigarette before running off to warn Kelly Anne?  It’s scenes like these that make his inevitable death less heartbreaking, show.

(And I know reduced sets/production and travel guidelines this season affected this but having Loya/Taza/Castel etc mentioned off screen while randos get face time is annoying.  All I know is they better not kill Camila off in a line of dialogue or I will sue.)

And finally, the rating system is ridic, I know it’s ridic, but getting week after week after week of gory closeups of head wounds (not to mention a boob shot this ep) and drawing the line at characters swearing at 10pm timeslot???  COME ON. Let Teresa say fuck already. She DESERVES IT.

Ooof, I’ve been asked a similar question here a couple weeks ago, but hmm, this is actually something I never really had to think hard about! EXCEPT CAN I GIVE YOU 5? Because 5 immediately came to mind. Is that okay?? OMG I’m so sorry. Plus 5 is a number I like better than three, sorry :P Another weird tic of mine. 

No surprise which is my first, hahah:

A Promise Made to Be Broken by PlantsAreNeat (E, 37,018 w., 7 Ch. || Fake Relationship, Pining, Slow Burn, RST, Eventual Relationship, POV Sherlock) – A young John makes an ‘if we’re still single at 40, we’ll get together’ pledge to a woman who ends up all wrong for him. She keeps reminding him of the promise, and won’t let go of it. John asks Sherlock to pose as his boyfriend at a family wedding, so as to dash her hopes permanently. Sherlock, who has at last acknowledged his feelings for John, reluctantly agrees despite knowing how painful it will be to ‘have’ John, but not keep him.

It’s just such a joy to read every single time, and I never skip any parts at all. Start to finish EVERY TIME.

Iris by slashscribe (E, 11,948 w., 1 Ch. || Parentlock, Pining Sherlock, Post-S3) – Sherlock does his best to make John happy when John comes back to 221B with his new baby after the events of Season 3, but Sherlock has a track record of getting things wrong in this area. This story is an exploration of their gradual shift from friends to lovers, told from Sherlock's perspective, full of a lot of pining and lack of emotional awareness.

This was my first Parentlock fic I read and it’s why I now do read Parentlock. Still one of my favourites, and it’s short enough to read in one sitting. It’s just so sweet, and Sherlock is SO precious, and GAH I LOVE it. Another start-to-finish. Which then brings me to this one:

Albion and the Woodsman by Glenmore (NR [E], 54,437 w., 50 Ch. || PODFIC AVAILABLE || Post S3, Parentlock, Pining Sherlock, Angst, Family, Drug Use, Depression, Sherlock POV, Light Humour, Reconnecting, Declarations of Love) – Sherlock and John are devastated after Mary Morstan makes her final moves. Sherlock relapses at the crack house, John walks around the world … and a lot happens in between. Parentlock, in the good way.

I REALLY like this fic because it’s Sherlock POV and it’s him learning about his feelings for John. THOUGH I feel bad admitting that lately, rereads usually start around Ch. 30, because I love John showing up all BAMFy in Ch. 34 and essentially tells the social workers to piss off. And Sherlock is RIDICULOUSLY adorably in love with John so much in this fic. I’ve reread the whole story enough to know what happens before Ch. 30, and all the smoopy stuff happens after that. BUT DON’T think I don’t love this story. I DO. A LOT. I just... Sometimes need certain parts of a story RIGHT now, and that one singular scene is one of them, and I always just keep going from there. :P

See, Clara is not only American (and wealthy to boot), she's also best friends with John’s ex-fiancée. Whom she's placed in the wedding party. As Maid of Honor. And John just happens to be Best Man. Bloody brilliant.

I just really love this one. It’s painfully sweet and OH GOD I love how much they fall for each other and HARRY IS TWINSIES AND SHE’S AWESOME. Love it. It’s such a feel-good fic with a great ending. Love it.

Corpus Hominis by mycapeisplaid (E, 47,709 w., 12 Ch. || PODFIC AVAILABLE || Case Fic, Fluff, Romance, Frottage, Angst, Anal, Blow Jobs, Rimming, Spas / Massages, Shampoo, Jealousy, Fake Relationship) - John knows the human body intimately. He’s had plenty of opportunity for study as a doctor, soldier, and lover. There’s one particular body, however, he knows very little about. When Sherlock launches himself head-first into a new obsession and they get sent on a case in an unlikely location, the pair discovers each other’s bodies with confusing yet delightful (and sometimes hilarious) results.

THIS FIC. GUH. Just, the way John pieces together how much Sherlock pines for him is ACHINGLY beautiful, that all comes together in a really tender scene in a pool. It’s the pool scene we should have had. UGH. AND SHAMPOO. And best friend Lestrade essentially telling John he’s a moron, LOL. LOVE this fic. I’m SO glad I finally remembered this one was the one with the Shampoo and the spa day.

Yeah it’s very unclear what’s happening exactly in Cali. Basically the only knowledge we have abt that house is that someone saw a scene where an elderly Mexican gentleman invited Jonathan and Argyle inside, which makes it p obvious that Argyle lives there, and another scene where the two of them were smoking on the roof. But, we’ve also seen Joyce’s car parked there, which has led some to speculate that maybe the Byers are renting out Argyle’s fam basement or smth. But we don’t know yet if anyone other than Charlie, Eduardo, and the other guy have been seen filming there, since the source went quiet. And they’re wrapping at the house on Tuesday, so hopefully then ppl will be comfortable sharing what they saw. Plus idk if you saw but Charlie, Millie, Noah, Finn, and Argyle were spotted filming at the airport recently. And someone said they were also filming at a local high school.

I def don’t think Jonathan’s gonna get a Steve-level amount of screen time this season, what with all the new characters and all the craziness happening in Hawkins and Russia too, but I know he’ll at least get more than s3. He’s in a team that includes a big fan-fav, a new fan-fav, and two of the most popular ST ships. He’s not gonna be hurting for screen time at all. I think there is a genuine concern for his dramatic plot being somewhat overwhelmed by the group he’s in, but at least we know he has an actual plot of his own instead of being dragged into Nancy’s. And Jonathan’s gonna have lots of time with his fam + getting a new friend, which is what we’ve been asking for since s1.

I def don’t think this is you, but I know there are lot of Jancys who are all butthurt over them being separated and pessimistic abt Argyle overpowering Jonathan. Those are legit grievances + concerns, but I just think sometimes you have to give to get. Do I wish that the writers could’ve written Jonathan and Nancy independent character arcs without separating them? Of course! But if that’s what it takes to keep them from being sidelined like usual, I say bring it on! I’m actually real excited to see what this season has in store for Jonathan and Nancy, so it makes me sad to see some ppl dreading it. 😢

Re: the house I’m still confused on whose it is as it could go either way as Byers’ or Argyle’s from what we’ve gotten. Argyle’s would make more sense. But if it’s really the Byers’ house, they’d need to explain how on earth they could afford it bc it makes no sense. Renting out part of Argyle’s house might make more sense money wise, but imo doesn’t much otherwise. Would they really have Jonathan and Argyle know each other both from living together *and* working together? It just seems like it would be one or the other— like you’d expect they’d become friends bc they met at HS and/or working at SBP.

Re: Jonathan and screentime, you always have to wonder if he’ll get screentime after the way he’s been so underwritten for two seasons. S4 at least gives us /a chance/ to see him in new situations like having a friend finally (have also wanted that since s1), also finally some Byers fam moments, a new setting and how that affects him, that he might be going thru a lot and not just dealing with it/keeping it all inside, that he might go thru some changes and not just be so static, and also that he might have even more responsibilities when Joyce leaves. They’ve set up a v good plotline for him but will they deliver by writing it lol? Idk. Just look at how many new characters there are and how much less they are shooting in NM compared to Hawkins. It’s also true given how much they like new characters they could sideline Jonathan through Argyle… or not. It will just be int to see him have a friend tho, and see NM as Cali and the newness of that, so I’m v curious for all of that and def hope they don’t just sidekick him again.

Re: jancy, I’ve been disappointed with how they’ve been written after s1 and I don’t think the duffers have bothered to write them well and jancy as a whole has been sidelined. There have def been some sweet scenes bet them still and some of their dynamic still carries over from s1, but imo they needed to do something to mix up what they’ve done to them. I also would have liked to see them be written bettter together, but I don’t get how you can like jancy and not like them as independent characters too, or like jancy, but be fine with how Jonathan has been written as a sidekick and largely lost all the other parts of his personality from s1. I hope they don’t tease love triangle again and I believe they’ll still put them back together, but while others I’m sure disagree, they needed to be apart and we needed to see something different w how they are written. Imo, they can only be interesting if they are written as equally solid characters with personalities apart and together. If they don’t have personalities independent of one another, what is the point? So I’m def interested in how the show is mixing it up and we’ll get to see Nancy w Robin and Jonathan in Cali. It’s different and I want to see how it impacts them as characters, and also how they then handle jancy later in the season when they see each other again. I’m sure they’d have a lot to work out! And that could be int/new to see too.

Why Adrigami and Lukanette Won’t Last

Before I start, I want to say that I have nothing against either ship. I actually think Lukanette is quite adorable and there are some cute things about Adrigami. However, that doesn’t take away from the fact that some of their scenes just feel... well, wrong to the average viewer. They leave you with a feeling that tells you that things feel off. Which is the point. But let’s start off with Adrigami. Kagami says it best herself, they’re so similar. While it’s important to have similarities with the person you’re in a relationship with, there’s also such thing as too many or the wrong kind of similarities. They both grew up in a rich family with high expectations, strict rules, and being deprived of friendship and socialization outside of the select few individuals their parents allowed. Adrien has already shown that he would love to be just like everybody else without all his family’s riches and rules. He’d be perfectly happy and in a lot of ways, he puts himself at the average persons level to achieve that, despite being extremely famous and rich. Kagami, while she hates some of her restrictions, still holds herself to be above most others and looks down on some things. Kagami still believes in having a sort of structure to her life, having more exquisite tastes, being more judgemental of people. She still wants to belong to the lifestyle she’s grown up with. She thinks that this is what Adrien wants as well, the same life with a bit more freedom. She also has the tendency to want to control Adrien to an extent and have him go along with her just because she wants it. Kagami is the type that believes that she should get something because she wants it and puts in the effort, while Adrien’s the kind of guy that will likely go along with anything someone he’s friends with or cares about wants, even if it’s not something he’s the most pleased with, unless it’s mean and would hurt someone. This isn’t a recipe for a balanced relationship, but a one-sided one where both end up unhappy in the long run. While they grew up very similarly and have a similar view of the world, they handle it entirely different. They’re both very rash. Whenever they think their decision is the right one or there’s something they really want to do, they don’t think it through, they just act. It’s proven to be very bad in some situations for the both of them. Two people in a relationship that make rash decisions without thinking it over or discussing situations or problems with one another won’t last long.

They’re both selfish. Adrien has shown as both Adrien and Chat Noir that he can be quite selfish. But this selfishness is usually something that’s pretty harmless, apart from the way it makes Ladybug feel bad when he’s upset that his affection isn’t returned. While I appreciate Kagami caring about how Marinette would feel about her and Adrien, she won’t even take the time to really consider what’s going on between him and Marinette and how it would affect not just Marinette, but Adrien too. Especially since as far as we know (since we have yet to get Chat Blanc and Felix at this point) Kagami may still think Adrien and Marinette like each other, but since neither will say anything, it’s perfect time to move in. I think Kagami is a good person, though with a lot of flaws. She’s starting to venture out of her sheltered life. The thing is, she doesn’t know what direction she’s going to go. She has just met someone that’s lived a similar life as her and thinks that that means that they’re meant for each other, and that she can try to get him to change things about him that make him, well, him to suit her better. Right now, Adrien seems to be settling for her as he’s drawn in by her interest in him and the fact that Ladybug keeps making it clear she loves someone else and can’t love him (can’t, not doesn’t. Very important distinction) and Marinette appears to him to be interested in Luka. Settling for someone never works out in the long run. Now to Lukanette. It’s not hard to guess what was going through Marinette’s mind the first time she saw Luka. A blushing mess and stuttering like crazy. She thought he was cute (as does Chloe *cough*) and he made an effort to show her that he was okay with her flustered mess and also showed interest in her right away. Marinette at that point was already feeling down about Adrien, and he was the first one to show her that attention that she was missing. I want to point out that while Luka is super sweet, says the right things, and is rather supportive, sometimes that’s not enough. If you have, say, 2-3 people who all are kind, supportive, encouraging, good listeners, etc. But there’s that one person that makes you truly believe it. That fills you with confidence and encouragement that you’re lacking. Chat Noir managed to make her feel better about the situations going on than when Luka found her, even though she hadn’t shared every detail (and different details of the big picture) with them. Luka and Marinette are also very similar. Quiet, wanting to help others, very interested in pursuing their passion for the arts. They strike me as just being content in each other’s company at home or at a nearby park, not doing much. And content, while nice, in this context is also describing settling. A friend had put it well when she said that Luka doesn’t challenge Marinette. If she’s having a bad day, he’ll just be there to listen and play her a song to cheer her up. If she wants something, he’ll stand by while she goes after it. I feel like Luka’s a step or two below her and she goes closer to his level at her most vulnerable of times. This isn’t bad, but this is not the foundation for a happy, long-term relationship. Marinette has shown more interest in Luka than Adrien has in Kagami, but as what was said before, he showed up in her life when she was just realizing that maybe being with Adrien wasn’t possible. Kagami walked in on what was just a regular day for him. Knowing Marinette, she’s going to realize that her feelings for Adrien just aren’t going away, especially when they spend time together as friends. And we know she would feel guilty for not being able to put her all in a relationship with someone as wonderful as Luka who deserves better than that. I feel like that in itself is going to be the reason that Marinette ends things with him, if she’s the one to end it. Because sometimes it’s better to just deal with that pain alone than be in a relationship with someone that’s just going to fall in deeper the longer things go on. And of course, the reason why things won’t work out with either Adrigami and Lukanette is, to quote Fu about Marinette and Adrien, “They were made for each other.” and they truly are. We see signs of it quite often. We’re reminded how they compliment each other at times, things that we wouldn’t even think of as they’re small but very important and telling things. The parallels especially showcase this.  Adrien has shown throughout the show, but much more heavily in S3, his affection for Marinette that he just doesn’t do with Kagami. If you’d like to be reminded of some of these moments, check out my gif post here that tumblr doesn’t want to show in the tags. :P Marinette also, to some, may seem happy and like she’s going to fully move on, and I know quite a few people are scared of that and think that the Love Square is dead. But someone you truly love, you just don’t fully move on. Your heart is not easily changed, and sometimes the heart just doesn’t move on at all. If you’re able to actually 100% move on, heart and all, from someone easily or because you’ve made that decision, it was never love. Or at least romantic love. While she may be with Luka, those feelings with Adrien will still remain and have an affect on her relationship with Luka. Really the most important thing to have is balance. That’s why their scenes have felt wrong, despite so many actually shipping one or both of these pairs. Marinette and Adrien/Ladybug and Chat Noir have this balance. Adrigami and Lukanette do not. If things are thrown out of balance it leads to bad things. Hopefully when both couples realize they’re not working out, things can end well for all of them and they can all remain friends before things take a turn.

Skam Italia episode 7 reaction

Edoardo: looking good just by comparison.

Clip 1 - A sandwich and a spoon

This is not a substantial comment but Silvia’s sandwich made me hungry.

So Silvia made out with the famous Rocco Martucci? That was the guy eyeballing her? I guess since we got a visual, he can’t be Italian Julian Dahl.

If I didn’t know better from having seen where the storyline goes, I’d say Silvia does a fairly convincing job of acting like she doesn’t care about Edoardo. You know, except for the part where she’s already making travel plans to accompany them on their vacation.

Lmao, Silvia and Eleonora allowed this spoon sucking to go on when Martino was right there in their faces. I appreciated how awkward this scenario was and that like, none of them attempted to make small talk to distract from Fede’s innuendo.

Clip 2 - Skate park

That skate park looks fun. It kinda looks like a swimming pool that was converted into something else, based on the colors, but I’m assuming it was always a skate park. But on that note, the visuals and colors of Skam Italia are usually great. I’m not going to do an in-depth analysis at the moment but it seems like the majority of scenes are very warm with a lot of brown/orange/yellow, and sometimes they do a scene that sticks out to me because it’s so cool and blue. It’s all rather striking. And of all the remakes, this one is making the most of its setting (Skam Austin is doing some things with the city but I feel way more of a sense of place in Skam Italia than Druck or Skam France).

I like when the Isak character prods Eva a little to tell him what’s up, since I think it fits what Isak is about to do to her in a few scenes, and because I always wonder why Eva didn’t just tell Noora if she was feel guilty - it helps to have the prompt from Isak to get out her confession. That being said, Eva and Martino’s relationship has been established as close and comfortable on its own merits that I can certainly buy Eva opening up to him. They’ve put in the work to make them have a rapport.

Tiny thing but when Eva swallows out of anxiety, you can see Martino half out of frame swallow right after she does, like he’s got some conflict on his own. That might not even be a conscious choice but it’s a good acting detail nonetheless. I think I mentioned previously that these actors have known each other for years and it’s stuff like that, the mimicry and feeding off each other, which makes the chemistry more convincing.

Yeah, this is my favorite Eva-Isak friendship after the original by far, so it’s really going to sting when the reveal happens.

Clip 3 - The wall

I’m glad that Eleonora checked in whether Edoardo wrote back to Silvia before she snapped her back to reality. You know, just in case he did.

Also in this scene Silvia still seems stuck in Edoardoland and firmly convinced that he’s into her, whereas I remember Vilde seeming a little deflated and knowing that Noora would not approve of her talking about William when she entered the scene. She’s pretty good at putting up a confident front when she needs to.

I think Silvia’s hooking up with Rocco Martucci was a misguided attempt to make Edoardo jealous and get him back, which is too bad. I wish she was legit trying to have fun or move on. I know for plot reasons that’s not how it goes, but still.

Both Eleonora and Eva were very sweet to Silvia and not too harsh or judgmental.

I really love making it into a wall of conquests instead of the sweatshirts, and I appreciate that Silvia gets to save face a little bit since the sweatshirt is a public “I fucked Edoardo” marker but the wall gets to preserve her anonymity and (some of) her dignity while still communicating that the boys think of the girls as trophies. But I almost hate it, because now I need that scene where the girls paint over or draw or deface the wall in some way, and I don’t think I’ll get it. Give me that thing, Skam Italia! 

For a minute I thought Eva was going to pull out a marker or something and draw over the chart.

Clip 4 - Eva on the phone with “mom”

Federico roleplaying as Eva’s mom toward the end of that phone conversation … I’ve never been a huge fan of P-Chris or any version of this character but this is a detail I often forget and I have no idea why, it’s one of the best things he ever did.

Gio deserves all the roasting he can get about his weed use. It’s nice that he’s being honest about having weed on him, but like … she’s made it clear he behaves like an asshole when he’s high, and that this isn’t some vague ideological problem for her but something based on his past behavior. So some of the banter is cute and all but him offering her some pot, even in a joking way, annoys me more than it should with this dynamic in mind. Dammit, Gio.

Clip 5 - Eleonora goes in on Edoardo

Silvia opening with some random mundane topics was kind of cute - either a bit clueless and rambling, much like her many many texts to the girls, or you can also take away that she was building up to the big news and trying to psych herself up.

I’m glad Eva called Sana on the dignity comment since that always seemed like one of the least necessary Sana comments about Vilde, particularly in this context, and probably just egged her on to confront him.

Silvia didn’t need any convincing from the girls whereas Noora was encouraging Vilde in the other versions. Silvia is dead set on it.

I like how they built up to it with the catchy music that cuts out as Edoardo bursts Silvia’s confidence bubble.

Sooo … Edoardo is still a dick, but maybe less of a dick that William? Who knew?

He still does the fake forgetting Silvia’s name, and his comment about the wall is outright lying but not as personal of an attack. He does laugh more at her which is a dick move, especially in front of his crew. However, he doesn’t tell her she isn’t worth it.

“What were you doing behind the boys’ toilets?” I’m assuming he’s insinuating that she’s a slut? That’s horrible and Edoardo is a creep, but I also have less of a fuuuuuuck youuuuuuu feeling toward him. Because the whole thing about Vilde not being worth it/not being pretty enough plays directly into Vilde’s worst insecurities and body image. And we’ve seen that Silvia has the body image issues as evidenced by her picking at her sandwich. I’m not positive that Silvia has the same hangups about being labeled a slut? She has the hesitation to go upstairs with Eduardo and you could interpret that as fear of her reputation, but she’s also down to make out with Rocco Martucci and stresses that she wanted to.

So while I want to make it clear, Edoardo is being an asshole, and being called a slut is hurtful and misogynistic … I actually will find this easier to forgive than William’s comments. I mean it mostly depends on how Edoardo reacts in future episodes, whether he regrets it or not, how it all plays out, but so far he doesn’t have as high of a hurdle in getting me to like him. Like how is Edoardo going to justify his comments the same way in S2 when Eleonora calls him on it? It’s not the same context. (And again: NOT excusing slut-shaming but I think there may be a difference in terms of how someone with poor self-image might perceive this comment, because “slut” is an insult dependent on behavior, vs. telling someone they aren’t pretty enough which is perceived as a more inherent, unchangeable characteristic. But again, William’s comment directly feeds into Vilde’s ED; how will Edoardo’s comment affect Silvia on a similar level? “Slut” doesn’t have much to do with an ED, at least not in an obvious way.)

Lmao, I feel kinda gross writing anything vaguely positive about Edoardo in this scene, since “not as much of a dick as he could have been” is not a ringing endorsement, but since this incident is a huge roadblock in me liking William in the original version, it’s worth talking about.  

This was also the best version of this roasting in the remakes. Eleonora has the attitude to back up her comments, and Edoardo has some personality in how he responds to her. 

Love that Eleonora got in her comment about his stupid hair as a last dig, but also, Edoardo has the best hair of any of the Williams, IMO.

Clip 6 - Fight

Gio opens his mouth so much for the kisses, damn. I’m not knocking him, I would rather see enthusiastic kisses than a bunch of pathetic pecks, but the dude is like Pac-Man.

Um that bit about the teacher siding with Alice over Federico and making him run laps is really funny, but you can see why it would alarm Eva, because she realizes she’s on the side of the bad guy in this situation. Would the teacher side with Alice against Eva, too?

The fight was brutal! All the girls jumped in to protect Eva. Sana went in with the dictionary, Silvia with the backpack. Eleonora is straight-up snarling by the end. Eva wasn’t even fighting after a certain point, just standing back as her girls defended her. The most heartwarming brawl of all time.

General Comments:

How does Skam Italia have the worst Jonas (outside of Marlon from Skam Austin) and the best William? How?

Listen, I am really not expecting to love Eleonora/Edoardo or Edoardo himself. It’s not a relationship type I’m fond of, he’s not a character archetype I enjoy. But if they can eliminate the worst of his behavior and modify certain actions ... then I can be fine with him and with the ship. I am being very, very hesitant to assume Skam Italia will make enough radical changes just because they did a few things that weren’t as bad; however, I am willing to give it a chance. 

It’s kind of funny because there was a rumor going around that they’ll jump to Martino’s story in S2 instead of Eleonora’s and lmao, not sure how legit that is but of course they would do it for the one remake where I hate the William the least. Not that I’m objecting to the gay storyline getting the spotlight sooner, though I do wonder how they will adapt certain plot elements without the buildup (Eskild’s S2 introduction, Isak’s background storyline of dating Sara and living in the basement).

Skam Italia seems by far the most popular and well-liked of the European remakes, which I can quite understand. Skam France is too much of a copy without much of an individual personality and Druck, though I’ve liked many of the scenes and characters, has a lot of hiccups in terms of production and updates, which is unfortunately turning people off and making the show less accessible. Not to repeat myself too much but: I have some big gripes about Skam Italia but it’s for the most part consistent, is nicely made with beautiful locations and nice cinematography, and has integrated the local culture well, putting its own spin on the material and not being a direct copy. None of the actors have really wowed me so far but there are some likable personalities in the bunch. My hope is that they will keep it up and either improve on the Eleonora/Edoardo relationship, or do a respectful job of Martino’s story, depending on what S2 is. (Even though I don’t want them to attempt Evak 2.0 at all ... but that’s a larger topic.)

Lately im just waiting for more info on Carol. I wanna know what Carol will be like in s9, TWD AU or the fumbling dead...BUT the filming spoilers tho...it’s like rubbing salt in my wounds about TWD’s potenial runied/AL leaving over and over.

It’s all just a bummer. I should not read into the filming spoilers that much. ..and omg avoid forum drama.

 Like I wanna see spoilers and I can’t help but hope for good Carol spoilers. Like getting spoilers about Caryl (and answers about C/E), Carol & Henry, and Carick/TF. :((( But then I get sad again and again. Idk what’s going on. I guess I assume there’s no good Carol spoilers and no Carick. :((((  Actually it’s just seeing any Rick spoilers is just sad. Also this whole Rick (and Maggie) dying/leaving the show thing is like dragged out rubbed in our wounds all till like when the ep airs their death/leaving. Like November or December.  Ugh. I just wanna get it over with it and to know what’s canon. TWD s9 speculations ~

so some filming spoilers coming out sounds like the gory comic death scene will happen. The heads on the pikes, killed by Alpha. They’re gonna film a zombie herd soon and whisperers may be part of that, I guess. i think of FTWD s4A and the deaths of Nick and Madison and how it seems like cheap deaths. I guess Rick and Maggie will go out like that... boring. not moving,imo. Doesn't impact the story or..............I’m just bitter. I just really want a good ending for Rick (thee main character). Like he saved his people and he dies and everyones lives without walkers as a threat and they’re safe in a community forever. 

  Travis’ death was meh (k it was really bad. wtf). ..I know I just won’t like whatever will happen with Rick and/or Maggie. For some reason, I feel like some characters got a good death scene for the overall story. Like Glenn, Sasha and Carl,imo. Their deaths were like they brought a new chapter to the story/show. Idk I liked Sophia and Merle’s deaths too. Anyways, their deaths changed the story. ..Or I guess they changed Rick characterwise in his story.  sigh.

Dang it’s like three weeks and AMC still didn’t confirm it or anything about AL leaving news. It makes me think AMC/writers wanted it to be a surprise that Rick dies/leaves the show (like how Nick and Madison died). ugh that’s even more lame. 

Dang it’s like AMC/showrunners? doesn’t let fans to trust them or get them excited at all for the story. It’s like some writers/AMC don’t care about the story’s core story and the fans.   So blah. I know some fans were disappointed that they were ‘spoiled’, but like that’s way to hard for me to handle that. I’m glad it was leaked and for me to know ahead of time...though the waiting and the dread sucks. 

UGH Skybound mailbag thing makes this hiatus worse by dragging the unknown..rubbing the salt..with their vague spoilers. And saying it in a troll way too. It’s cos we don’t know what’s up with Carol and writers made it that dumb way on not making it clear in their lackluster s8 finale (s8 finale shouldve been like s2 finale foreshadowing timeskip and next arc-Michonne/prison). I just wanna know if C/E happens or not, or Caryl be endgame, or will Carol ever have romance, will Carol interact with TF/Rick/Henry, in this TWD AU. geez. ...I want spoilers. I want confirmations and then leave the show-canon alone.

Carol speculations in s9.

- uh it seems like Carol is in Kingdom and just hanging out with Henry and Kingdomers in 9A. idk about Carick but we got a lit bit of something from filming spoilers, in 9x01. meh. :\ Some Caryl moments but how Skybound answered it, idk it depends on how I see it (on tumblr). As long as Caryl still be soulmate-y. Sigh I miss Carol or I miss what the show used to be and the potential.

AMC is having a bad year/June, huh? lol ..partly their fault, anyways. wtf TWD shows are like destroying itself and then now the Hardwick (TTD) news of him being an abuser. sigh. Damn we really got BTS drama. :\ With the shows losing their leads, is it part of the lawsuits and diverting away from Kirkman’s story or something? idk.

I just wanna say, poor FTWD fans who watched recently. Writers/Gimple/AMC? litterally just scraped off the original storyline of the Clarks family for to focus on newbies, Morgan. So it’s a spinoff show within the show. ( It’s like TWD in s9 will be doing...with changing to Daryl’s) Anyways that’s really awful to the FTWD fans to suddenly to change the storyline. That’s like ..probably something I would just quit the show ..It’s something to feel like I won’t the trust the writers. Gotta have trust in the writers and the writers gotta gain your trust.

I was thinking about fandom stuff..and reading some posts. i guess i let it slide that the TWD show was going downhill early on. idk when. most say s6 is when it got worse. i always say that TWD was not the best but it was just a fun drama ensemble show for me. Well thats what fandoms do..they want the very best of the show/media. Also fandom is all opinions...it’s best not to read into it too much.

s2 is my fave season...even when I didn’t feel the TF love like on other shows or when I got annoyed with Shane/love triangle. (why is everything relate to OUAT wank. I learned a lot from that show/fandom. maybe just being deep in the fandom. it hurts more.) Ok like s2 or other seasons compared to s6-8 is different.. Different style and stuff-writers/showrunners.., idk. There are some good moments. It’s also like based on the comics’ story. Most say s5 is the best is what comic fans say is loving the Hunters arc. (s3 and the prison arc-tho i dont like this season). So yeah ..kinda depends on the comics and it’s all show business. Kinda hard to compare or not idk, Kirkman’s comic story may be better because it’s original and flows better naturally. There’s more personal intimate moments with like 5 main characters but the show got other good parts too. (better medium story telling) idk. like the show has Carol and other plots went better, but lack TF moments and many dull characters. Also Kirkman isnt the best writer either so...idk what im saying. TWDG telltale game has the best storytelling. tho super depressing but also got realistic moments.

Just idk Oh well. I watched TWD for the main characters, Caryl, Carol. But lately things are not happening like I want or like it was in s5-6. There’s Less TF (like how the comics are..tho s9/after AOW was hopeful but AL and LC wanna leave.)Caryl and Carol/ TF interactions or Carol part of main plot haven’t happened since s6 and Idk if we come back to that. Like will Caryl’s relationship grow and does Carol and TF moment return-like will we have Carick moments? SIGH Waiting and hoping. It’s tiring. do whatever you want. I’m still a fan of Caryl, Carol/TF/Carick, Richonne.

Idk I’m just bummed and having a hard time with s9 and yet Rick and Maggie are leaving. Yeah ..I just wish I have an ending to just end it but I don’t have one. There’s no end...Idk it’s hard to make an ending to stop and to not hope or expect more. 

I want to not watch s9 yet I want/hope this TWD AU to end it right..blah. I guess till I get more info ..wait and see...

Salut! :) Sadly that about all the french I remember. I love basically all of you writing. I was wondering what do you think about the theory that Abby and Kane will have a five year old when season 5 starts?

Hello! Ooooh a kabby question! :p I don’t often get those. And thank you! I’m glad you like my stuff!

I tend to lurk at the periphery of the fandom but this seems to be an impossible theory to ignore haha! And personally I think it’s not going to happen and I’m not sure I want it to happen anyway. I mean, it’s all well and good in fanfictions because it’s sort of a guilty pleasure, isn’t it? It’s the traditional happy ever after and ships are cute with their own babies so we want that and I’m usually smiling like an idiot at a good baby fic.

But on a show... I’m honestly convinced that if they have a child, Abby will be reduced to the role of “the mother” because babies & toddlers are needy and dependent on you in a way teenagers aren’t and it’s complicated to just have them off-screen all the time (although ouat never had a problem with that XD but then again it was weird in that show to know there were all those babies off screen whose parents didn’t really take care of and that would be supra ooc of kabby to do that). And I mean obviously Abby isn’t just that but they already reduced her character a lot in S3 (from bad ass chancellor and doctor to someone who couldn’t do both suddenly only to make way for Pike’s chancellor plot) and I don’t trust them not to use this as an excuse to sideline her again - because they could have found a way to make Pike chancellor without calling her abilities into a question and it’s been a sore point for me for a while (sorry if it’s an unpopular opinion, I have no clue what people thinks about that).

And in a more down-to-earth (so to speak) approach...

 Abby is a bit old to have babies and it would be a dangerous and risky pregnancy in this situation because I’m guessing not only her age has to be taken into account but also the fact that probably meds are restricted to a certain amount per person, they probably don’t have all the equipment... And the matter of her brain has never been resolved either in canon, which means there could complications.

There must be a baby plan in the bunker because it’s very much back to ark drastic measures if they want to survive, not everyone can just have a baby when it pleases them or they will be overun and lack oxygen before long so it would add a loooot of side drama I’m not sure the show will want to dive into with important characters when they will have to tackle the Ark+Clarke+the prisonner ship. Even if I would really like to see Octavia’s reaction faced to a similar situation to the one she was in as a child. But honestly, I’m expecting maybe a mention of this but not an actual plotline. I’m guess the Ark flashback plotline will be power struggle and Octavia becoming ruthless with marcus shaking his head from the side. 

I don’t think a kabby baby is a plotline that would bring anything to the main story and the adults already have a short amount of screen time as it is. Their apparitions are always somehow relevant to the main story with the occasional shippy scene weaved into it. Abby and Marcus are important characters for the adults!team so their interventions have to be useful and I’m not sure them having a baby would add to that. I guess if they actually do the baby story it will be with younger people or complete strangers and it will swept under the rug in two episodes. Plot wise, I just can’t see it happening.

This being said, I wouldn’t mind too much if a kabby child does happen  but what I would prefer (and what I want to write in my bunker series if I ever get there) is them adoping one? Like... There must be skykru orphans now because they kept the children but some parents were killed in the second Culling so probably there are orphans and kabby loves to adopt children so... I really wouldn’t mind them adopting a little girl or a little boy and assuming they’re already 3+ when the bunker closes, they would be a 9+ when season 5 starts and thus a little bit more independent, demanding less attention from Abby and Marcus and that would be far more manageable screentime wise. Besides, let’s face it, they’ve been adopting children since day 1 so... They could do it for good. It would still be their child and it would make far more sense than Abby having a baby at that point in time. But then again I guess that’s pure wishing because Clarke already got there with the adopting wayward children XD

Soooo all that to say... I don’t suscribe to this theory but I love reading it in fanfictions =)

Ugh, stop tempting me with all your Sterek posts! I don't have time to watch a new show! Do you think I really need to watch in order to read some fic about them? Or can I just skim wiki about the show haha

oh you absolutely do not have to watch the show and in fact i would recommend you do not. i started reading fics kind of randomly a couple weeks ago and had never seen the show – i wasn’t going to bother but it’s streaming free on amazon prime so i watched a few episodes just trying to get an idea of like… their voices and mannerisms? anyway it’s real bad. like, i talk shit on supernatural for not being a good show, but teen wolf is… in another category of not-good tv. and even the fandom seems overall pretty miserable about everything that happened past s3 or so (multiple people have told me specifically to stop watching past s3 if i make it that far) (spoiler: i won’t). watching the main character (scott mccall played by tyler posey) is real painful. i’m cringing thinking about it. 

TEEN WOLF SPOILERS FOLLOW FOR ALL SEASONS PROBABLY

the main thing you’ll probably want to know about teen wolf is re: werewolf lore [link to teen wolf wiki]. even a lot of tw au fics feature werewolves, which i expected to really hate but i am actually pretty into. i’m still relatively confused about what exactly it means to be an alpha, beta, or omega werewolf in tw-land (no relation to a/b/o in an spn fandom-style omegaverse, though those exist too!!!), but as long as you realize it’s unrelated to a/b/o stuff you can generally figure out what it means in the context of whichever fic you are reading. 

otherwise, here’s what you need to know: setting: beacon hills, california (fictional but probably somewhere in nocal). scott mccall got bit by a rogue alpha werewolf, turning him into a werewolf. he is not relevant, but he does accidentally fall in love with a girl (allison argent) from a family of werewolf hunters. his best friend is stiles stilinski (played by dylan o’brien, who you may know from the maze runner), the boy with a polish name so unpronounceable it isn’t even actually said in canon until later in the series (it’s Mieczyslaw, though many older fics use various difficult-for-americans polish names). stiles talks too much and is super bi. they meet derek hale, who is a hottie werewolf. (derek is played by tyler hoechlin, who is currently running around with this beard that is really upsetting to me because i am not generally into beards but i’m actually really into his beard, ugh, god dammit.) he is very broody and really just gives off some alarming edward cullen vibes in his first appearances in the show. very grumpy and mysterious and quiet and shirtless a lot. there’s a scene where he pushes stiles into a wall that is one of the gayer things i’ve ever seen since the last time dean and cas were on screen together. (seriously – there’s a similar scene between scott and stiles a couple episodes prior that is extremely non-gay, and then stiles and derek start staring at each other’s lips and fixing each other’s jackets and shit, WHOA.) 

stiles is in love with lydia martin, who is a super popular pretty redheaded girl who is dating jackson. stiles’s mom died when he was younger (cancer i think but i am not sure) and his dad is the sheriff. 

derek fell in love with kate argent when he was 16-18 (canon never specifies derek’s age and there is confusing info specifically in response to his age during the kate thing) (are we never told his age bc he and stiles’s antics are a little gay and stiles is only 16 at the beginning of the show? idk), not knowing she was a hunter. she used his love for her to trick him and ended up murdering his entire family (mom: talia; dad: idk his name; sisters: laura and cora [one of them may have survived the fire but died later? i am confused about this] [and then i guess cora wasn’t really dead at all?? that all happens later in canon and doesn’t come up in fics very often]) in a house fire. also i’m pretty sure derek killed this other girl he loved when he was younger (paige) – i’m not sure of the details but he’s real fucked up and guilty about it even though it is generally presented like he does not deserve that guilt. 

other notable characters: erica, isaac, and boyd are members of derek’s pack. sometimes in fic isaac is in a poly thing with scott and allison which is p cool! erica and boyd are usually together. ummm there’s also a chick named kira who is a kitsune (i have no idea what that actually means in the tw verse) and might hook up with scott in later seasons. chris argent is allison’s hunter dad but some fics portray him as an ok dude. peter hale is derek’s uncle and is a creepy dick. 

fics!!! k i have read a LOT of sterek fics (like.. hundreds…..) in the last couple of weeks but here are the 3 that have made it on my bookmarks list so far: 

Love Runs Wild by DevilDoll derek and stiles are porn stars who do like softcore werewolf-human porn for a magazine called neckz ‘n throats. stiles shows up to a shoot with a hickey on his neck and this is Bad News cuz werewolves have this whole thing about marking (!!!) and derek is like really upset but trying to pretend it’s fine and he’s not all in love with stiles. this is probably a good intro to general ideas the tw fandom has about werewolf mating rituals. also it’s just in general A+ smutty good times.

Sell Your Body to the Night by Dira Sudis (dsudis) this one is about 16 year old sex worker stiles, hired by rich werewolf derek. so… like… warnings for all the consent implications re: being a 16 year old sex worker, and generally i stray away from underage stuff even if both characters are the same age, but this is a really beautiful sweet love story, and i can’t believe i’m describing something that is tagged with watersports as a “beautiful sweet love story,” but it really is. (i am not into watersports lmao but am glad i read this anyway. it’s one scene at the beginning of ch9 that can be skipped but tbh unless you are super squicked, i would suggest reading it bc the scene manages to come across really intense and intimate and all around great despite, you know, someone getting peed on.) 

Cornerstone by Vendelin derek is a marine vet and stiles is blind. derek makes a dick out of himself and stiles kind of forcibly befriends him anyway and it’s sweet and fluffy and all-around wonderful as fuck. this was the first sterek fic i ever loved and i hope i don’t forget that feeling (i was just lamenting last night that i have zero memory of when i went from someone who was real scared of the spn fandom in general bc wincest was the only ship anyone ever talked about to dedicating 90% of my available brainpower to destiel – how did i even hear about it?? when did i start reading fics??? what kind of fics did i read??? how did i feel about them??? i have no idea!!!). 

also i went through most of @bleep0bleep‘s fic rec list [link] and enjoyed the vast majority of them so i would definitely suggest checking that out for some good fics!!! (i read a bunch of bleep0bleep’s fics, too, and they are also great [link to their ao3])

ps i am vaguely working on my first sterek fic. destiel is the first fandom i’ve ever completed fics for (i do have one (1) unfinished merlin fic that predates any of my spn writing, but that’s it) and the only thing i’ve written in years so it’s super weird/fun to play in another sandbox!

Day 23 - Olivia

We (and by “we” I of course mean “I”, since I’m the one broadcasting my opinions on these episodes that no one asked for :P) have already talked a lot about Olivia, the character but on day 23 of Fringe September let’s also talk about Olivia, the episode.

I expect it comes as no surprise to anyone that the s3 premiere of the show has come up so high on the list. Olivia is an intense hour of Olivia being Olivia, saving herself, forming an unlikely friendship with a cab driver, and being forced into an identity crisis with a rather emotional finish. The alt!team doesn’t know what hit them.

It also introduces the structure of 3A, where we get an entire episode in one or the other universe, with merely a throwaway scene at the end showing us what’s happening on the other side at the time.

This also means that the episodes playing out in the red!verse are very Olivia-centric, since the other members of our main team only appear briefly in them. What makes 3x01 and 3x07 stand out in particular though, is that these are the only episodes where Olivia is actually fully aware of her true identity, and isn’t buying into the story and the planted memories suggesting that she is Altlivia.

Olivia also starts off in a sort of “previously on” scene. While psychiatrist lady is trying to convince Olivia that she’s someone she’s not, she pretty much recaps the main points of the story, while we also learn that Altlivia apparently has an olympic medal in marksmanship. It’s a great opening - and then it gets even better as we witness Olivia’s escape. NO PRISON CAN HOLD HER YOU FOOLS.

So after Olivia jumps off a cliff out of Liberty Island, the alt!team is discussing the possibility that she died but alt!Broyles doesn’t think so. “I think from what I know of Olivia Dunham, she's the one person I would bet on who could survive.” - I guess Olivia Dunham is a badass in every universe.

In any case, the alt!team goes all out trying to get to Liv, all but Broyles unaware that she isn’t actually their Olivia. Which brings an interesting angle to this, because it’s even easier for us to sympathize with Lincoln and Charlie here, since they sincerely believe that they’re just trying to help a traumatized friend.

Olivia meanwhile kidnaps our favorite cab driver, Henry, and fucks with the poor dude by memorizing his ID (or “Show Me” as they would say). But because this is Fringe, we also get a bit of characterization for Henry. They banter and talk a lot, and after a confrontation with the alt!team, where he realizes that she was telling him the truth about being in trouble, he even decides to help her on his own. More so, he gets WORRIED about her by the end. It’s adorable. Bless Henry. No wonder he’s the namesake of all the future Dunham children.

But as Henry starts believing Olivia more and more... she starts believing herself less and less. She starts off okay, getting back to the theater, trying to cross back over on the same soft spot - but she only gets there to see it being ambered. Which is the first time I think we witness the amber protocol being implemented.

It’s after that that Charlie/Scarlie and a still badly burned Lincoln find her, and try to bring her in... But she shoots a gas tank with eerie precision from the cab to get away from them. It’s a pretty fucking cool shot. It’s also a sign showing us that the treatments to replace our Olivia’s memories with the ones from Altlivia are actually working after all.

It all comes down to what happens next though. Olivia tells Henry to take her to an address she remembers, even though she can’t say why. She thinks it’s a safe house... but it turns out that it’s actually her mother’s house. Her mother who died ages ago in her own universe.

The reunion between them is as emotional as you’d expect, Olivia is still trying to fight it, saying that she’s not Marilyn’s daughter, but then Mama Dunham asks the obvious question: “If you've never been here, how did you know to come here?”

And that’s when Olivia stops fighting. She embraces these memories with the mother she never got to have growing up, and she embraces her mom. “This is your safe house” - she tells her. And nobody cries at all.

Meanwhile on our side nobody seems to suspect Altlivia, who’s watching Walter’s shenanigans with an amused expression, and just goes with Peter smooching her. It’s all part of her vagenda after all.

Idek what else to point out? But let’s try.

“Hey Liv? Thanks for not shooting me.” “Aaaaw.” - Honestly I just love the alt!team, even if that’s actually our Olivia thinking that she’s Altlivia there...

Can you believe that Anna Torv got no recognition for all this? She was playing multiple characters and also these characters trying to play each other or believing that they’re each other... I said this before but I’ll say it again - before there was a Maslany there was a Torv.

Olivia takes that cool shot with one arm, instead of her usual two-handed hold - the same way Altlivia shoots her own gun.

Doctor Anderson’s blue!verse version appears in s4 - coincidentally after Olivia has yet another identity crisis when her amber memories are being replaced with her original ones.

I already mentioned this at the 3x22 post, but the whole lymphocyte transfusion seems to be the same possible explanation they went with about how Peter regained his future self’s memories in that episode.

okay okay okay thoughts!!

i like the opening but i dont really like the song.. that much. p typical tho, you like one half and the other is only eh.

but i really liked the ed wowww!! the song is so amazing and its by LiSA aaaahh!!!! i recognized her right away mann. and the theme is so cute aww! the medieval one from one of the popularity polls, and they took off running with it wow, it was animated and everything!!!!!

so yeah the ending is realllly great. Datte Atashi no Hero is the name of that song, so go check it out by itself um yeah!

beside that, the op apparently hinted at the exams arc which is cool ! which means ig the zombie-forest-thing is probably the second ova, if theyre gonna have the stain and end of term arcs in this half. which im!!!! all for hell yeah thatll be cool.

im wondering if this is foreshadowing a third season already tho? i could see them ending it w the stain arc like as a closer kinda like how they did w magi, i mean a1 is different from bones but like this is obviously gonna be one of those longer running stories if horikoshi really is under kishimoto and oda and all the gigantic-story-authors, yknow? and bones usually takes those longer running ones and bunches them up (aka fma) sooo another season like this is weird yet still sorta plausible. 

especially since end of term goes directly into the summer training arc so well, i could see a s3 happening. 

i watched it in english since simuldub is still going on -so bless both jap and eng casts for ALL their hard work rly !! that one week break was worth it, they need rest- and im not sure abt stains voice it kinda..bothers me. m gonna check and see if its up who plays him yet soon.

i still love gran torino -not how they say it tho i personally say or tori-no, like the name tori, then, no, nor tore-E-no, but eh w/e- and i really really wish his va was up somewhereeee like even funimation has this nice little spot on the mha page for cast and uh, no cast is there period. nothing. like wow great job guys.

he sounds kinda familiar but the voice matches a++ to me like !!!!!!! YES I love it.

i also like how they showed everyone else training! like i didnt know jirou was depicted but that was cute, ill have to go back to the manga and see if its an add on or something. omg guys they had!!!!!!!! animated!!!! kendou and yaomomo aaaaaAAAHh!!!!! i can never remember her name but snake charmer lady had a different color scheme than i had pictured. maybe her hair threw me off. but yea kendou speaks!!! and her hero outfit is still a++++++++++++!!!!!!!!!!! i love kendou guys

and they made a huge long piece abt best jeanist bc in the manga it was like a couple panels im p sure, but it was cool to see his quirk in action! like rly cool i dont ever remember it being like that like torn apart and stuff, unraveled? yeah. that was neat.

everyone else’s little snapshot scenes were cute too. shouto’s was unexpected tho. nice but unexpected, a little offputting.

they actually got p far for the first ep of this arc like its already into the second day theyre already abt to test out the uh.. what would you call it i forget, the fullbody quirk form? the released quirk form lets say that. 

gOSH i lovelovelove the brash remarks torino has like. no kid. thats a taiyaki are you okay. and izuKU JUS IS LIKE no i know im not a taiyaki and he does it in such a natural way like address the problem, get back to the conversation, all in one fell slide.

and they showed the ‘im not dead’ scene again aaaa that was great. that jus. sry im abt to tear up im thinking abt the ed again SO BEAUTIFUL

i totally expected manual to (we SAW MANUAL lmao that post still haunts me) out iida in this ep but next one..maybee. i think. maybe not, theres a little left to cover. but soon. i like him better than when i read the manga ithink bc in that same scene he was like ‘okay no you rly dont care for me youre here bc hosu’ and iidas like yea sry bout that. but he seems.. less suspicious, maybe thats why. like hes jus there, patrolling, admiring, stuff. nice.

i lost track a bit but um i think thats it! good ep overall, excited for the next one. i would, like, its my tradition to watch it twice back to back, but i have to repair the ttdk drawing real quick and post that, maybe ill watch it later tho.

I don’t think I fully admitted to myself that this con was a different beast long after it was over. After swanning through BTRDC last October, chatting to tons of people and getting to all the photo and autog sessions and Q&As on time and having time to chill and people-watch, I did expect this one to be less relaxed, but I didn’t expect a 3-day endurance catharsis. 

Friday

Every guest who walked onto the stage at the opening ceremony appeared momentarily stunned, all wide eyes and “woahh” expressions. Except Bryan, of course, who clearly wanted to crowdsurf but had to settle for high-five running through the crowd instead. For the rest of them, I guess they genuinely hadn’t expected quite so many people or quite so much noise and enthusiasm. 

Met my hero @bansheegrahamtao during registration, cracked up at her bag: 

As for the M&G, well, as @existingcharactersdiehorribly remarked midway through our suffering, it’s a tough tough thing, having to sit around drinking whiskey and wine, waiting for Bryan Fuller to come talk to you. Especially tough when Ellen, Hugh, Aaron and Scott all stop by for a brief chat at some point as well. I remember realizing around midnight that we’d be there for three more hours at least and wondering if I should go to my room for a quick nap, but that’s just not how it’s done, so I napped right at the table instead. When Bryan did get there he was greeted by a sight unlike any other, leading him to grab one of the straws and wave it about and tell us an AG production story about the sex scene between Salim and the jinn. The size and shape of the VFX jinn penis had to be juuust right because they couldn’t have a goofy-looking penis in a sexy scene, but production was hellbent on 12 inches because they had made some odd assumptions. Mousa Kraish the jinn actor was also more than fine with 12′, which is when Bryan stepped in and firmly said no that’s ridiculous, we’ll go with 9′. He then showed us a picture of the flame-eyed ifrit with the vetoed penis on his phone. We wrapped up around 3:30 am on a sobering SOTL vs Will note that sent everyone into black despair, but All Seems Well Now after some panicking and course correction. He wants to write for them forever and ever, gotcha, we’re good, whew. 

Saturday

What even are alarms and wake up calls, we don’t hear them and sleep straight through breakfast and the first photo op like real men. Shrugged it off assuming they’d let me do Aaron and Scott on Sunday and queued for Bryan instead, got a nice hug and a concerned “did you get any rest?” from this miracle of a man, who apparently made a point of inquiring this of everyone he remembered from the night before, which if you’re Bryan is probably easily all 200 of us. 

Demore turned out to be the breakout guest of the weekend. I say this as someone who is so hypersensitive to the quality of public speaking/presenting/live performance/showmanship that I’ll walk out if something is so off it starts bothering me. Case in point: the crowd fluffer later that night; literally 45 seconds into his routine I noped out of the room and didn’t return until he was done. With Demore, it was immediately apparent it would be a smooth sailing throughout. I don’t know if he came prepared or if he is just that good, but there was a friendly and warm quality to his command of the audience that I’ve never experienced before. I wish someone *glares at self* had recorded the Q&A, because I’ve since forgotten most of the specifics. He made a very #relatable point about how both Hannibal and Tobias prize authentic expression above all else. Overall I am left with an impression of a nice balance between thoughtful and playful, funny and profound. Bonus: amazing moment that was more than the sum of its goofy parts. I got goosebumps. 

Another thing that stands out from the afternoon is Hugh freaking Dancy with his freaking word choice poetry. I don’t know if it only seemed this way to my ESL brain but he did that thing where he paused for a moment while appearing to pick a word and then the word he went for was on point, and not in a suffocatingly completist way but rather in a fresh and elegant way. So basically he’s a terrible man and I’ve been very distracted. I’ll even give Sabbath’s Theater a go, that’s how bamboozled I am by the whole thing. 

I won’t recap Bryan and Hugh’s Q&As since you can actually listen to them thanks to the brilliant @pka42. The highlight for me was Bryan talking about how he would have revisited Miriam Lass given the chance: as a law enforcement officer too traumatized to continue active duty, she would have been hidden away in some FBI basement doing clerical work so the sight of her wouldn’t make anyone uncomfortable, and the rhetorical question here would be whether Hannibal made a better family for her than the FBI *cue instant anguished Will and Abigail feels, oof* 

Another highlight was Bryan referring to Sean’s “time to wrap this up” gesture as a “sexy dancing fingers thing”, which evolved into “the nipple thing” by Sunday. Bless. 

Was seated too far back to actually watch the Fannibal musical so buried myself in the booklet instead, pausing every now and again to loudly exclaim “NO BUT ACTUAL HUGH DANCY IS WATCHING THIS”. Loved the firefly from the costume competition, shame it got no mention. 

Sunday 

Things I learned Sunday morning: a Bryan&Hugh sandwich grips you like a vice, whereas being in the middle of an Aaron&Scott sandwich is a much squishier experience. 

The rest of the day is kind of a blur. Started seriously flagging so skipped the first two Q&As in favor of sitting on a bench staring dazedly into middle distance, which is when @louiselux and @emungere materialized next to said bench in a fine example of just how surreal things can get at a Hannibal con, <3. 

At the Q&A, most of which I spent in the question line, Bryan went on being highly #relatable telling us about how he lives his life in constant fear of mediocrity, Hugh cracked jokes about Will possibly being into Austrian chamber music (or was this Saturday, who even remembers anymore). Bryan was honest about the things he would have done differently in S1-S2 but didn’t venture into S3 territory at all. Still too soon and too fresh, I suppose. 

Glad I had a quiet moment sitting down with @byronicwoman before that brutal autog session started, or was that Saturday? *cries* I have no idea. 

Two things I have to say before I bring this meandering report to a close: 

1. Since I listed all of the low points of this con in the Gothic post I feel like I have to point out that there are highs that balance all of them out xD Aside from the obvious thrill of meeting Bryan and co, there’s really nothing quite like The Second Wave of Fannibal Recognition where you’ve exchanged real names with someone to no effect and then you exchange Twitter/Tumblr handles and a lot of AAAAAAHHHHhshfsflskdfjhsdf ensues. It’s fascinating to see the people behind the writing and the art. It’s fun when previously two-dimensional things come alive in the real world. It’s a real trip to get drunk on something pink and sit in a cloud of Bigarade xD  

2. Those of you I got very little or no quality time with besides hurried hellos, hugs, snippets of conversation and trying to survive the con right alongside you, and I won’t tag you all - firstly wtf, secondly how frustrating, thirdly ilu anyway and will talk to you anyway so whateva, we’ll make it up next Feb, unless of course Mads is there in which case we’ll all just huddle together and cry, <3. 

Finally, a helpful tip: the only way to avoid PCD is to actively preempt it in any way you can. What I did was get together with @lactobacille, @meres-argias, @rav3nsta9 and @fourth-axis for some ~thematic entertainment:

Went wandering around Sir John Soane’s, well, mind palace, complete with oubliettes, weird little recesses, moveable planes, holes in the floor and a slightly demented-looking collection of antiquities and paintings. 

Naturally could not walk past a museum of anatomy and surgery. Check out the light and air and color on these nervous and circulatory systems! 

All in all, some seriously good, funny times <3.

When italian vilde was going upstairs to hook up with you know who she actually stopped and asked italian chris if she was doing the right thing bc she was not sure and she was like wtf are you kidding me, just go with him. I just, idk, no best friend would tell you to follow some guy just like that. It might sounds stupid but that scene really made me feel so damn bad. I am afraid this remake might be a bit too much for me.

Mmm, yeah, I didn’t keep up with that one past the first ep so I don’t know. I’m glad the Italians seem to enjoy it but I could understand why they’re like “oh god, how to we explain this to non-Italians” at least once an episode. 

I think the positive thing about it being on Facebook watch is that it is the only free streaming platform it could have been on, meaning it has the potential to reach more people. I mean okay you need a fb account but that’s better than paying for Netflix or Hulu every month. Plus as of now it isn’t geoblocked. And Facebook owns Instagram so the social media can be filtered better than it would have on any other network. I just see how in terms of what US networks have to offer why FB was best

Yeah, I think it’s a fitting choice? I’m not sure how much being on a certain platform gives you a greater reach, I think some people were thinking more people might stumble onto it elsewhere.

I’m from jersey too! Man north and south jersey are like two different states. Imagine Skam Jersey City or something - never on time to anything because NJ transit sucks, the multiple malls within in a 20 minute radius is the hangout on weekdays and you go into the city or Hoboken on weekends for no reason with no money to spend. Your neighbors pretty much make your block more diverse than the UN. Real non chain pizza and Chinese take out are eaten religiously.

Jersey has a little bit of everything?? Because I was from a small-town, little suburb that was all tree-lined and beautiful. But that town was also surrounded by highways and stripmalls if you went ten-fifteen minutes in several directions?

i used to be meh about the remakes but the longer they go on the more i hate them. the european ones feel like a bunch of bad cosplayers decided to remake skam. I HATE THEM

I have this thing where it’s kind of fun to compare them at first but then the novelty wears off and I’m more “why... no...”. I generally hate remakes though so I’ve actually felt like I’ve grown as a person to be this accepting!

Lol Isak and Even were barely in s4 and when they were the storyline was either dropped halfway trough or Isak was used to further Sana's story, develop their best friends story they build in s3 or to use Isak as preacher to justify muddy waters. Just like Sana and Noora's ONLY SOLO scene did, to "call out Noora's hypocricity" but it was more to excuse and get a wise, popular character to make William look better (lol). Yet Vilde and Chris were close and had build up with Sana, not Noora...

My two least favorite scenes in Skam...

If the Uk is the biggest it's not what Scandinavia is getting. 90% is American based, it's always been like that and that's why we have so much American integrated in out cultures and also why we are also very good at English because while we study it early on we are constantly surrounded by English and American film and television.

Maybe part of that stat is the UK/USA co-productions? Like a British production company doing Skam Austin like this. 

US Willhelm looks like the most genetic white football player douschebag and he looks exactly like that scumbag from 13 reasons why. I wonder why the remakes never changes the ethnicity for Willhelm when he's supposed to be the dream goal?

Yeahhhhhhhh, it does say something that they’ve changed P Chris to a minority twice while the most popular guy is always remarkably the same.

I mean I get that Julie is doing skam Austin so it’s being critiqued more BUT there are so many other remakes going on to watch instead. So many countries have the opportunity to make skam and I’m sorry but so far they all either did an exact copy and/or are not keeping up with the point of daily updates in real time.People hate on Julie but the other creators so far have done little to adapt it correctly. Clearly from Skam Austin we see that the characters do not have to be exact copies 🤷🏻‍♀️

Well, I don’t think people were very accepting of the other remakes either? People have been pretty harsh on all of them. It’s just a different kind of harsh with Skam Austin because it’s tied up with people’s existing feelings about Julie Andem and s4 and the end of Skam and etc.

Also idk if it's just because that anon is American, but not every argument needs to have an underlying note of racism in it and it's frustrating when people just use the "you're racist" card just to look better in a discussion, it just destroyes the job we put into fighting against racism when it actually matters.

Yeah, that happens a lot. There’s a thoughtful way to consider race in what we’re talking about but that’s not it.

I think skam austin is going to be another repeat of the same plot , like I think if they wanted to do something new, they would change the name at least but calling it skam austin immediately connects it to og skam and I think the other remakes have shown us just have different they can go with the plots...

I don’t know, I’ve really gone back-and-forth about how close it’s going to be? I think we have to wait and get some footage at least.

imagine how it was when she broke the news to the actors? the deal was done during s3, they must have at least thought of her going to the states, then finding out s4 is the last season.

I wonder if they did find out in stages or all at once. Was Skam ever possibly going to continue? Without Julie, maybe? I’d kind of assume she told them both at once.

I remember reading a while ago when a p Chris fan was going ***** over Jonas and that Eva didn't give Chris a chance because he's so much more than a fuckboy. They said they had seen vines of pchris and Eva and I though of course it would be vines rofl so imagine a bunch of people falling for this hot badboy over vines expecting this great badass character and then he's barely in the show? I think it's 90% Herman projection onto Chris and Eva. They love him because he's apparently hot.

it's weird that all the remakes chose to start in the middle of the school year. even weirder that skam france has chosen to put out 2 seasons in the space of about 4 months... I feel like they're doing that to dominate the skam remakes, you know to be the most predominant remake. Seems fishy to me. I don't trust them. Don't even get me started on these fake leaks of the episode for publicity!!!!! We're not falling for it! Who else could it be except THEIR OWN TEAM!!! yeesh lol sorry ANYWAY

Didn’t episodes leak twice or something? I don’t know, I’m not following it very closely. I did find the whole “just wait, things will change more after episode three!” thing annoying though.

Anon,let me just remind you that what is wrong about it is the fact that she's a non muslim girl but she wears a hijaab and plays a muslim (if we get s4..I can't imagine all the scenes with "Sana" praying, knowing she's not muslim). Please, remember that there are white muslim people and it'd be more okay for a white girl to play this character IF the actress was muslim herself I guess.

Yeah, I think you have to be careful not to conflate that, but also it is a shame that they’d change a POC character into a white character? Just because someone can be white and a Muslim doesn’t mean that’s actually a good representation of the Muslim minority there?
