GMMTV 2024 (part 1) predictions

I can't believe we're here again, I had so much fun speculating and watching last year, it truly is my Superbowl lol.

This year will be way harder to predict anything as we didn't have Safe House nor any new couple, as far as I know, so this will be based on questionable rumours and vibes alone. Also this is only part one, whatever that means, so I expect we'll have fewer series announced than in other years. Aaaand there are still quite a few series from 2023 still waiting to air.

Gemini Fourth series, confirmed by them.

No Jojo series, also confirmed by him.

WinnySatang series. Reason: they have a keychain lol. This may be difficult to explain to someone who's not up to date with gmmtv shenanigans but the company recently released merch with a winnystang's logo, which usually means they are being branded as a couple.

Continuing with this, sadly no logo or merch for GawinKrist, which probably means they won't continue as a couple.

Big cast assemble featuring Off, Sea and possibly others like Gun, View, First, Dunk. Reason: they were seen together without any other explanation so maybe they were filming a trailer.

I think KhaoFirst talked about another project together.

I also heard some rumours about EarthMix and them talking about working together next year.

Two GLs. A bit generous, I know. I expected GMMTV to air 23.5 in the first half of 2023 as a test of how the public receives GLs before going for another but that didn't happen. So my guesses now are a) they don't care that much about 23.5 numbers because they're already planning on doing more GLs or b) they don't care because they don't plan to make another GL this year. I'm going for the former on faith alone and also I faintly remember a photo of Aof's office with one or two GL books which weren't 23.5.

ViewJune becoming an official couple and starring in another series together, hopefully as mains. They're already paired for Dangerous Romance and 23.5 and this happened with MilkLove so.

PondPhuwin and JoongDunk together in a series in some way. This is more of a wild guess but the fourth of them are quite good friends and had a few events together and have spoken about working together in a series. Fans love it and ask for it a lot so maybe GMMTV has seen it and decided to capitalise on it.

No Tu or Fah coming back yet, but expected to happen later in the year. I'm quite sad about this because they are some of my favourite actresses from the company.

I'm guessing it's less likely we'll have OffGun, TayNew, MilkLove or JimmySea projects as two series of them would have to air in the same year.

If we talk about rotation, the pairs that would be more likely to have a series would be GemFourth, PondPhuwin and EarthMix.

As for side pairs who could become main or official couples we have Aou Boom, Winny Satang, Ohm Fluke, Mark Ford, Mark Neo, Marc Pavin comeback. My guesses are Winny Satang, and Mark and Neo. In my opinion Mark has three possible candidates whom he could form a couple with: Neo, Ford and Nanon. Why Nanon? Mark and Nanon had a couple of events together and are really good friends, GMMTV loves that. But I pray they'll go with Neo, they had some work together and it's been a long time since he had any appearance with Ford, so it could happen.

The Enigma season 2

I expect an OhmNanon comeback TayNew style but not for one or two years, so no OhmNanon together, not even in a hetero series.

There are at least 4 hetero romance series I have not heard from yet which were announced for 2023, two with Dew, one with Win. Are they being cancelled? Gmmtv has only ever cancelled one announced series since I started watching but idk, we have a lot to go through yet, I don't know where are they going to fit. And they won't stop airing reruns on the days this type of series usually goes.

I expect another rookie series, especially seeing how well MSP did.

I'm trying to think of a hetero male or female lead but I can't come up with anything. My guess was Luke but he hasn't posted the gmmtv2024 announcement. Maybe NanonFilm again? I really have no idea.

Only two days to go!!!! I can't wait. And if I'm lucky with work I'll be able to watch it somewhat live and blog about it, so I'm even more excited.

I said Charles because I think the mythos around him is so poetic, and I think the Bianchi reader concept would play into it so beautifully.

it’s a hot take, but I’m going to say it. I think Charles has a pretty boring public persona, to cover up a low key sideways personality. Not a mean or problematic personality, but I just get the vibe that he makes a conscious decision to portray himself as this blank slate of a nice person, which is fair enough considering his vocation and the media scrutiny. But I think he’s a) way more of a fuckboy than people are willing to buy b) is a bit more fragile than people would think. Idk maybe Charles girlies know this, or know it’s not true, I don’t feel Charles that much but those are the vibes I get. He comes across as easily rattled, to me. But also like he forces himself - either out of a classy attitude or self preservation - to be very neutral all the time.

I think Lando is interesting just for pure vibes, that would be funny, I think he’s a fun guy. I feel like I’d struggle for depth a bit there though.

Honestly Lewis in his earlier days would have been prime fic material but his personality just drives me up the damn wall I could not write it.

I wasn’t watching F1 in the RB Seb era sadly, I know I missed something great.

But yeah I’m not sure. It’s just what drivers have interesting stories that you can capitalise on really. I will see what inspires me.

i am very well aware that this is not really in the realm of my past posts and a couple of things?

marauders? yep. a somewhat funny story about how i got there involving macarons, minecraft bees, physics, and one tiktok person who does an amazing cosplay of this one character.

what about nagakura? i have been detoxed from his bullshit and would like to keep it that way for some time. have found that my urge to rip my hair off has decreased. not for long though, eheh. started playing hijikata's route during this hiatus thing and got did i want to punch him in the face. need to finish it, hopefully soon.

so without further ado:

"got done dirty by the creators"- first off, canonically dead. the author did have an opportunity to capitalise on the marauders as her original fanbase got older and write a spinoff based on that. instead we got cursed child. a part of me was interested in jily's tale and how they got together apart from the bare bones in the canon.

"i am constantly going insane rotating them in my brain like a fork in a microwave"- i want to know why he was so popular, apart from plot convenience. he just appeared like someone who was too perfect, and snape's complaits would have appeared to be jealousy. so i would like him to be fleshed out more, and have him appear more human apart from "everyone loves him even after he died" and "he bullied snape". that being said, i do like some of the headcanons that have been presented like him giving golden retriever and a really really sappy romantic (stuff more based in canon, admittedly).

"I WANT TO STUDY THEM LIKE A COCKROACH"- see above

"what's wrong with them (affectionate)"- rose more from fanfic than canon. but i think the author wanted to instill that feeling for her readers.

"what's wrong with them (derogatory)"- must have been pre bad if it took a long time for lily to reciprocate her feelings. plus arrogance is kinda uhhh, not the best? idk, this one was pure vibes

"i like them but i don't really think about them much"- all in all, at the end of the day, i am sorta moving away from marauders and so that intrigue i have for james, which wasn't really present much to begin with, has slowly disappeared. still there! not as much.

this will probably be my one post that symbolises my time of being in the marauders fandom. also, desi james? it's kind of a vibe.

alas, we did not get a bingo this time either. will it ever happen? will i finish that 2500 research proposal by its due date? find out next time!

note, i do not support the author at all. it cannot be denied that she had a huge impact on our childhoods and so we look to her as a role model. but it is a pity that she is using her voice to propagate such hateful things to people who identify as trans as though this world isn't shitty enough.

Volleyball really is life to him, and while it does not have to be life to you, for you to not care or be interested in something he invests so much time and passion and sweat, blood and tears into he would not feel like the relationship would be worth it. :(

Hi, I’m sorry to bother you with this, but I was wondering about your distaste for S*a*g C*i. I’m not very familiar with the comics or the characters. Your post caught my attention because I try to be knowledgeable about the media I consume, especially coming from Marvel/Disney(being Jewish Rromani, I’ll never forgive them for what they did to Wanda). I tried googling information about it but couldn’t find much. I was just curious if your post had a deeper meaning or if it simply isn’t to your taste. Obviously feel free to ignore this if you don’t feel like getting into it or don’t want to answer.

Hi! First up, thanks for taking the chance to ask and being willing to listen. I appreciate that a lot.

I am going to preface this by saying that I am part of the Chinese diaspora. I have never read the comics in full but I have seen enough to formulate my own thoughts. All my opinions made here are my own and I’m not looking to debate or be persuaded or to shift my point of view. I have my mind about these things and you have yours. I do urge you to keep opening avenues of discussions as I should not be the only person being asked.

Also, heads up, I will block any sort of argumentative bs-ery.

SC is obviously made with the perspective of the Asian American lens in mind and I have seen it been pointed out that it isn’t meant to be ‘representative’ but let’s be real here. How many people in the tag have already been hyping it up as Asian rep and stuff? I’m just saying. I just want to say that the experiences of Asian Americans do not reflect those of the diaspora. Yes, we can relate to a certain extent, but to generalise and distill all experiences of all members of the diaspora into that of Asian Americans is unacceptable.

My issues with SC (not gonna bother with spelling the name out and we are going into the whys) are as follows:

I would recommend starting out by reading this article on cbr.com that goes a little further into detail on the history of the character

The tl;dr is this; SC started out as an insensitive East Asian stereotype character created to capitalise on the 1970s fervour for anything Kung Fu. Sure, Marvel has done their best to retcon some of the less stellar parts of his origins, but the funniest thing is (legend. big bro. uncle Tony) Tong Leung, a renown Hong Kong actor has been casted as The Mandarin while Simu Liu, a Canadian Chinese actor, was casted as SC. Make of that what you will.

Okay deadass I’m not saying Simu Liu won’t do a good job because at this point all we have to work on is a teaser trailer but I’m all saying that is, was Arthur Chen Feiyu not available or something?? Idk. He didn’t pick up the phone?? Did Marvel even ask?? This is nonsensical salt and I digress

Then there’s the name. What kinda hell name is S**** C**??? This is some Cho Chang level bullshit. Yeah, sure we can say, oh they just want to make sure the branding is right. Ok. This coming from the studio that amalgamated the characterisations of Ned Leeds and Ganke Lee. Sure, Jan.

Full disclosure, I did like some of the vibes given out by the teaser. There were some very wuxia and xianxia inspired shots and scenes and if I do watch, I’ll be very keen on these bits. Awkwafina already looks like she is set to be etched deep into my heart and Uncle Tony looks to be gearing up to kick this out of the park because goddamn he looks good in that armour. Haven’t seen Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh’s character, but I’m sure she will be kicking ass and taking names for sure too because I am very sure veterans like her and Uncle Tony will look good doing wire works. But this isn’t a movie about them, is it? It’s about SC and right now with this teaser trailer, nothing about SC makes me want to froth at the mouth to watch.

Yes, I am saying that that subway scene does not impress me. We live in a world with stunt teams from China can work on a peanut budget to make conversations flow in a fight scene. Do better.

Again, I am very aware that this teaser is to hype people up. I know. I am still waiting for the proper first trailer to drop. I have actually deliberately kept myself oblivious to the production of this movie so as to not give myself any sort of preconceived notions. When that first trailer drops, then I will formulate my thoughts again.

Okay, I know it’s a teaser but some of the cgi just looks... very uncanny valley? It looks unfinished, is what I am getting at here. For a mega conglomerate verging on industry monopoly, even a teaser trailer should look 1000% better than this. Every beat of this should be flawless. It should look on par with the trailer. People who follow will know that I won’t ever fault a product because of shitty cgi (re: Word of Honor) but when you are the people behind the Live Adaptation of Mulan (which I hate) and Raya and the Last Dragon (which I categorically DETEST because that shit is bullshit mishmash of SEA cultures with fucking made up words being painted as *representation* and that is some fucking bullshit and as someone from SEA I’m sorry Queen Kelly Marie Tran BUT NO) I will hold you to the fucking standards of the high heavens as the House of the Devil Mouse deserves. Do fucking better.

I am not clairvoyant but I can already see how it is going to go when this movie doesn’t “do as well as expected” in Asia; you’ll hear people going on about how the Asian Asians don’t support these types of stories, how we don’t put effort into hyping movies and shows that push for representation. But can I ask whose representation are we talking about? I saw it with Crazy Rich Asians and Mulan, I saw it with Raya. Whose rep are we talking about? If someone out there, some little child sees themselves in these media products, sure, great! Empower these next generation for the push for a better hope. But whose rep are we pushing for? Because I definitely do not see myself in the Asian American lens of representation and I’m very sure I won’t ever and I know that I am not alone in this.

Hollywood needs to do better. To borrow the words of a friend, excusing mediocrity for ‘cultural appreciation’ is no good.

This rant has gotten long enough and I’m so sorry to everyone seeing this on your dash. I have a lot of salt today.

hi I’m that RPF anon and first of all thanks for being polite and not completely obliterating on me on sight. I’ve raised this point in the past with other people and t’was a fucking mess, I tell you

In terms of your point, I think I understand where you’re coming from. The whole schtick with celebs purposefully marketing themselves as sexual beings/fantasies and thus, inevitably giving their fanbase the ammunition/material to concoct their fantasies upon. I suppose I’ve never thought of it from a capitalist point of view but it makes much more sense now.

Re the swiftwyn fantasies: idk if I’m being a prude/cupcake but it still seems weird to me. Like, Yh Taylor’s screaming from the rooftops about how she’s getting dicked down on the regular (truly iconic and jealousy inducing in this panoramic if you ask me) but going out of your way to write that up is...not something I completely understand??. But it’s clearly yours (and quite a few people’s) on this blog and given you’re not actively harming anyone, have fun I guess?? It’s confusing to me but so long as the people indulging in it are sane and acknowledge it’s a fantasy (just like any other work of fiction)...no harm done.

But with Joshlie, i do think it’s a bit strange as josh doesn’t market himself as a fantasy? Esp not a sexual one. Like I don’t think it’s fair to say wanting fame = marketing yourself as a sexual being because I don’t think he does that - the two, imo, can be mutually exclusive Also, WHO HAS THE HOTS FOR JOSHUA KUSHNER? pls, like Karlie I get - she’s the smoking hot thirst trap and half of this couple but josh on his own? Nah, he’s just hot by extension/association with Kar sorry not sorry

Now regarding After - I still view After as low-key problematic (the OG books far more than the films) because of how HS was portrayed. He’s supposed to be this mysterious playboy that his fans are meant to thirst after (which is fair and not completely unfounded) but he’s written as a toxic, abusive, gaslighting asshole because the author (she’s a whole diff can of worms to deal with, yikes) decided to just give him a new (v. inaccurate and harmful to young girls) personality.

And it’s not just After that I’ve seen this with, it’s a bunch of fanfiction, RPF and fictional stuff alike. But I suppose that’s again a whole separate problem (problem being the constant romanticisation of abusive behaviour, particularly when helmed by the pretty face of a celeb) to deal with in general.

And in terms of saying, ‘well the movie made bank and so did the people involved so it’s okay’ doesn’t sit right with me because as far as I know, HS didn’t make money off of this? If anyone has info on this please correct me but to my knowledge, the name was just changed to avoid legal problems but I could be wrong. And so jumping off this point, I don’t see how this movie is okay - everyone knows that this is HS fanfic but it’s also a shitty fantasy for young girls to indulge in because it is harmful imo. And tbh, as I’m writing this, world tiniest violin for HS’s image technically being exploited and repackaged without him being able to capitalise on it but the franchise as a whole, imo, is garbage and has a net negative effect. This is complex stuff and, as you can probably tell, I’m kind of on the fence here. Feel free to chime in on what you think ✌🏼

Yeah as I said this is a huge discussion point and one I find very, very interesting because I do see the “EEK NO” angle and was on that side of the fence for this debate for multiple years, so it’s not like I’m purely like, “Oh fuck it don’t be a prude” (well I do say that to people who’re like “HOW DARE YOU WRITE SOFT PORN ON THE INTERNET” but not to like a “is this ethical” debate).

Re Harry making money off of After - it’s not that he got paid for it per se, but it being fanfic about him defs had people listening to his shit and looking him up more. It’s a symbiotic thing. Same as Idea of You - which has yet to become a movie - definitely leads to an increase in streaming. To me both projects have benefited Harry financially and in terms of growing his fanbases. Is it how he would necessarily want them to grow organically, like if he could choose? I’m not sure, I’d be fascinated to have a discussion with him about it, but I also think he wouldn’t pearl clutch about shit like that because in the end it does benefit him.

Now we get to like “is this a positive portrayal or not?” which is another thing I personally feel strongly about and why, although I’ve - recently, like this blog is my first venture into this territory, my smut before has been fictional fanfic or original - started writing RPF I wouldn’t write an AU/crack pairing and I wouldn’t write about people who I didn’t think were in a healthy loving relationship. But that’s a moralistic judgement. Like personally I wouldn’t feel comfortable portraying anyone I was writing as an asshole. But.... would me portraying them as an asshole affect their lives? No. After blowing up is bad for young girls who’re being role modelled bad behavior but that’s not the result of it being RPF inspired, like it’s just a bad plot.

As I’ve said, in many ways Taylor has invited fans to imagine her and Joe fucking. Like she’s put out multiple explicit sex songs and yeah we’re allowed to think about that. While Karlie hasn’t, she has shown off her husband and my vibe is... the people on this blog - real people who get comfort from reading shit here and just vibing - find her and him hot and want to imagine them fucking. Even if he hasn’t really invited that, he’s very much featured as her husband in many of her videos and in her public life. He’s a ~presence. My Joshlie fic didn’t say aaaaanything negative about them, like it was based around a public event that we know he left drunk, and then they have fictional sex in their hallway. Is that true? Of course not. Idk. It’s a fantasy that people wanted to indulge because they find them hot.

Then we also need to zoom out and look at the history of this type of shit because y’all know me I’m all for nuanced views and my obsession with the entertainment industry and the concept of celebrity and the histories thereof and such like... define me. If we think about how showmances and PR relationships started up - thinking in terms of the studio system - there’s a huge element of transference and fantasy. People wanted to see couples on screen be dating in real life. Why? Because then they could imagine their whole lives together, they could project the characters played onto the celebs in question. And that worked both ways, like if a couple was dating in real life, people wanted to see them on screen. That’s RPF. People were obsessed with Burton and Taylor acting together because they wanted Burton and Taylor not because they gave a shit about the film in question.

I think it’s very natural to fantasize. I think there’s a long history of that. And while I understand being like, “Eh I don’t like this” I don’t know how different the logic of going “here’s a short story imagining these famous people in bed” is from “hmmmm I really think Gaga and BCoop fucked because LOOK AT THE CHEMISTRY.”

We can say both are wrong but I also think we need to live in reality, we need to look at what’s profitable, and we need to look at history. And to me at this point it’s just... no big deal.

I will say the Joshlie stuff would probs make them far more uncomfy than the Swiftwyn stuff would make Swiftwyn but at the same time there are weirder things written about all of them on the internet than me being like, “Here’s a sexy consensual scenario between two people who adore each other” and again people walk away from my blog as bigger fans of all four people by and large and ergo spend money on their shit so eh I’m not feeling like I’m crossing any lines.

And obviously like any smutty RPF scenario is fucking fiction.

I'm a huge zagibot but istg Eteri has made the sport such that almost nobody can be called a legend anymore. A legend is supposed to push the sport forward. I used to harp on the fact that Alina is a legend(she actually is) because she won all those titles, but then I'm like it's not that .....amazing when you compare it to Yuna Kim who ....idk how to phrase it, it just seems less dynamic. Alina worked hard and she deserved that, but like what's the point if you're gonna go to one Olympics and then fade into oblivion. Same with Zhenya, dominated for two years and then started fading. 2 years. like seriously it's not impossible for a figure skater to have a long career. Someone was saying something like "what if they don't wanna compete, maybe that's why they're all retiring" which I found so dumb. You could see how much it meant to Zhenya, how much skating meant to her, but in the end her body just couldn't. Alina tried, but I think she cares about it less than Zhenya. I've always got the vibe that Alina skated because she had to, not really because she wanted to. But with Zhenya, she skated because she loved it. Like Liza. She wants to skate. So she's skating🤷‍♀️ the only person who can really be called a legend now is Sasha and Liza, Sasha because she actually pushed the sport forward, and Liza because of like?? Just look at her. Winning against all these juniors when literally everyone counts her out this is an essay I'm sorry 😭😭🥺

yeah i completely agree with this, as a vmie and a yunabot turned kostobot i relate to this so much!! obviously not discrediting anything alina has done, but people don’t really even talk about alina being the reigning world champion in 2019 because she hasn’t even competed at all this season, like there’s simply no trajectory to get invested in. i think another part is that these girls are so used to winning, it’s half of why they compete in the sport, once they’re no longer the top then it’s like what’s the point :/ small fed skaters aren’t usually victim to this though because they will still get sent to worlds etc, but in russia where everything is so cutthroat and there’s always another sambo girl waiting to take your place, i completely understand why skaters like alina capitalise off those few golden years and get sponsorships instead of competing and no longer being the top skater anymore.

i think liza is a really good example, even i got emotional yesterday seeing her in the k&c, her longevity is sooo admirable that even though i don’t like her skating, i can still marvel at what she did. and sasha is incredible, she definitely has a long term goal to go to 2 olympics and everything, which is so different from any other eteri girl who’s like, “i want to win the olympics” and then it’s rly just :/ nothing. i’d rather see a skater not be at the top and love skating than someone who is a flash in a pan even if they win everything. and don’t worry if you couldn’t tell answering anons is what’s keeping me going during this men’s event, i’m seriously just waiting for junhwan to skate bc him onwards are all my favourite skaters
