Chapter III The deal is off

The further he gets from your house the more you feel the weight lifting off your shoulders. You glance up at Benny watching his eyes as he makes sure your boyfriend ex gets in his car and drives away. “We’ve let you save us too many times, we’ve become so reliant on you that we failed to see when you needed us.”

You don’t really know what to say at this moment so you open your favorite candy and take a bite. It’s never tasted this good. You give Benny the other half as he half bites your finger causing you to giggle. You offer one to Frankie and he happily obliges.

A silence falls over the room as they all ponder what life would be like without you in it.

Surprisingly Frankie breaks the silence first before Benny can cause anymore annoyance to his half drunk and sleepy cohorts.

“We almost didn’t have her in our lives because of that asshole…so I’m willing to try and see where this goes.”

Santi huffs a laugh to himself as he runs his hands down his face. “And you’re both gonna be fine with whoever she chooses?” The question on everyone’s minds lingers in the air.

“I trust you guys more than anyone and I’d be happier if she was with one of us than some guy I know would break her heart.” Benny always wore his heart on his sleeve,never backing down to defend one of them or you.

“Fine…do what you want but when it all blows up in our faces just know I will never forgive you for ruining what he had.”

Benny leans back against Frankie on the couch, a triumphant grin on his face as he’s lulled to sleep by the rise and fall of his chest. He is so content like this, dreaming of you and finally able to relax for the first time in weeks knowing you’re safe and he has everything he could ever ask for under one roof.

It’s settled then, the deal is off.

They’re all crowded into the mess hall after another boring day of cleaning and bitch work. The air is thick with tension since they haven’t been on assignment in weeks, not since Frankie’s near death injury. Frankie’s never been that close to death and Santi has been distant since. The thought of losing him pushed feelings to the surface he’s never felt before. He didn’t know how to handle them, of course he loved his friends and would lay down his life for them but this was something else. He was never good at addressing his feelings and so he ran. He couldn’t physically go anywhere so into his mind he went.

It made everyone on edge, Frankie had a sadness in his eyes and Benny wanted to help him anyway he can but he pushed him away. They were all fracturing as though weeks prior they weren’t the closest they’ve ever been.

Will constantly snapped at his brother telling him to get his shit together, Tom snapped at all of them for being so caught up in anything besides their jobs. They were acting anything but the special ops soldiers that they were. Too many feelings were involved causing them to implode.

“Davis,Garcia,Morales,Millers…report to the briefing room nineteen hundred hours.” The sound of the lieutenant colonel causing a bush to fall over the room. He exits swiftly on his feet in his crisp army fatigues.

“Fuck.” Tom says not so quietly “I knew you guys were gonna fuck this up acting all weird.”

“Fuck you.” Frankie spits back at Tom as he stands with his tray to leave the hall. Santi and Benny can’t hide the grin spreading across their faces. It’s the most he’s said in weeks and they’ll cling to that small gesture if it’s all they can get.

Benny looks up at Will and sees the heartbreak in his eyes, he knows that being in delta is everything to him, he wishes he could take it as seriously as his brother does. He hopes things haven’t been ruined for all of them and he vows to try harder for him if they can get a second chance. He mouths a silent “I’m sorry.” To his brother which he returns with a smile and for the first time in weeks Ben feels like he can breathe a little.

They’re all silent as they make their way to the briefing room, the unanswered question looming among them. A million thoughts swimming in their head about their future. Would they be disciplined?demoted?discharged? None of it feels right to think about.

Of course they arrive 15 minutes early, all of them too nervous to wait any longer. As they approach the room a soft voice is heard through the door followed by laughter from the colonel. He’s laughing? They didn’t think the man was capable of anything but surly disposition. They exchange confused glances amongst each other as Tom opens the door first.

You’re leaning against the desk with your arms folded across your chest, the crinkle in your eyes and the small dimple in your cheeks is the least distracting thing about you as you laugh at something the colonel said. The standard issue army shirt and pants do nothing to hide your figure and it takes Frankie a moment to realize Tom is the only one seated at the desks.

You turn to face them as the four men are left gaping in the doorway like fools.

“Have a seat.” The colonel pulls them from their thoughts as you clear your throat and stand at attention in the front of the room. The smile has dropped from your face as you level them with your intense gaze. Intentionally making eye contact with each of them as they move to sit down.

Ben awkwardly crashes into Santi causing the desk to scratch against the floor and he hopes the floor would swallow him whole at this moment.

They’re the picture of imperfection and the farthest thing from highly trained soldiers, looking at the moment more like highschool teenagers. You drop your head to crack a smile but Will catches the way you clear your throat to disguise the laughter.

“Gentleman, this is your new combat medic, I wanted you all to meet and become acquainted before your new assignment next week.” The colonel says your name and Santi is repeating it in his head as many times as necessary so as not to forget, he wasn’t always good with names but he didn’t want to forget yours.

Frankie’s mind drifts elsewhere as relief floods him knowing they wouldn’t be disciplined for whatever he thought the military knew about his their situation. He feels a little bad that the previous medic had been discharged but it was her job to try and save their lives in the event something happened. He thought that day may have been his last as he watched her shakily stitch him up and eventually Will moved her out of the way and finished opting for his horrible stitch job and steady hands to hers.

“You can talk in here but be back to your quarters before curfew,understood.”

A resounding yes sir from the group and he’s exiting the room but not before he smiles at you.

Santi notices and thinks how wildly inappropriate it may have been or maybe his mind was playing tricks on him, but he can’t necessarily blame the colonel for shameless flirting. There was a draw about you that he couldn’t shake.

They begin introductions at once and you can’t help the giggle that escapes you at their eagerness. Santi glares at his friend and Frankie raises his hand in mock surrender.

“I’m Santiago Garcia but you can call me pope.”

As if on cue Benny clears his throat “You can call him Fish actually.” Frankie groans and raises his hand to shield his face from you.

“I’ll kill you” he mouths to Benny and any nerves you had for this introduction and joining this tight knit group are slowly dissipating.

You don’t have the heart to tell them the colonel has already told you as much as he could about each of them and of course that included their names. You knew as much about each of them as a small file could tell you except for the fact that they were distractingly handsome and beautiful.

It’s almost unreal that they all ended up together as if they were some inappropriate military calendar that you could buy at the cheap corner store. Even Tom who has yet to introduce himself had some appeal.

“So what are your qualifications?”

“You must be Tom.” He gapes at you unsure of how you knew his name, before he can open his mouth for a reply you raise your hand at him.

You walk the short distance to the desk he’s seated at as you place your hands on the front coming almost eye level with him.

“He’s right,we need to tighten up and get our shit together. We can’t have this getting complicated with our lives on the line and I don’t want to lose another medic.” Will always the voice of reason.

“Okay but what about after?” Benny is half joking,half serious. Will slaps the back of his head as Frankie tries to conceal his laughter.

“No…I don’t care if it’s years down the line, we don’t need to complicate this anymore or ruin any friendships.” It’s the honesty in Santis voice that has Benny and Frankie sure that this is the way it has to be.

a part of me is worried that with the general. everything. of my blog that you're thinking im about to recommend a sick comic series, but im gonna hope you wont be disappointed when thats not what i do. though technically it does have some comics, shoutout to the 3 people other than me that have read them

Orphan Black is a show that begun airing a decade ago in 2013, it had 5 seasons, with 50 episodes overall! it's a sci-fi (technically listed as a thriller but. idk about that) show about human cloning and well, the ethics of science and human intervention.

Starring Tatiana Maslany (currently more known as she-hulk in the mcu) as, by the end of the show, about 8 different full time clones, with a few one-offs for good measure. each with their own personality, history, mannerisms, accent, look, and relationship dynamics. Tatiana's acting in this show is a genuine masterclass, you will forget and have to remind yourself she is playing all four characters in a scene you're watching constantly. how does she have chemistry with herself. what is happening

on a wider scale the show is about nature vs nuture, family and man's interference in human evolution, and also gay people. a lot of gay people. i dont really know how to get further into it because its a show i really really dont want to spoil.

i'd recommend giving at the the pilot a shot, its (in my opinion) very compelling, and if that doesn't hook you, give it up to episode 3 before you give up, i think thats really where you get the best first look at Tatiana's acting prowess.

if you do enjoy it, theres an audio sequel Orphan Black: The Next Chapter with Tatiana back as everyone, and after that there's Orphan Black: Echoes, set 30 years after the show and following a whole new story, though explicitly set in the same world, thats not technically out anywhere but australia yet.

now. the worst part of this is that unless you're british and you have access to channel 4, i have no idea where you can watch it. it used to be on netflix but was taken off a few years back, and afaik it hasnt been put on any streaming site. so. my recommendation is well, if you want to watch it, Do What You Gotta Do.

Streaming Website

Formula One:

We have had 2 out of the 24 races planned in for the season. We have a week break until racing continues in Australia. My top three previous races to watch are Singapore 2023 (the year's only non-red bull winner), USA 2005 (tyre drama, only 6 cars on the grid) and Spa 1998 (its a miracle anyone finished the race).

Formula One also has four 'support series' that have drivers feed into each other until they join F1; Formula 2, Formula 3, Formula E (the electric car series) and Formula One Academy (the all women's series!).

The lovely @lina-touro has made a f1 primer that can help you get into the series!

F1 also has a netflix series called Drive to Survive, which is not accurate but has it's moments.

Indycar:

Another 'single seater' racing series like f1, it is America based, with less races, more drivers and its own charm. IndyCar liveries are bright and colourful (cough cough F1, no more carbon fibre please.), but can be confusing as sometimes drivers don't share liveries in the same team. The IndyCar season has just started with one race passed, the next race is also less than two weeks away.

IndyCar has a feeder series called IndyNXT, a bunch of new and upcoming talent competing including Jamie Chadwick.

I don't really have many races for IndyCar to recommend as i got into the series only last year, but each race is memorable with something going on.

The wonderful @mcpodium has an indycar primer if you are interested.

Indycar does have a series called the 100 days to Indy which is a good watch.

MotoGP:

MotoGP, the beloved, has just started it's series with one race passed and around 9 days until we race in Portugal. MotoGP is different to the other series on this list as it is motorcycle based and fundamentally more dangerous (or adrenaline pumping, your choice).

MotoGP has it's own feeder series, MotoE (Electric bikes) Moto2 and Moto3 (actual children), there is so much happening in all three series, it's crazy.

I recommend races like Sepang 2015 (DIVORCE RACE), India 2023 (Bez Podium heheheh), Argentina 2018 (BATSHIT) and Phillip Island (always gives interesting races.)

Also the brilliant @dressfortheslide-nottheride has made this intro primer for motogp and the amazing @moonshynecybin has made this primer about Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez.

MotoGP does have a series called There can only be one if you want to have a watch.

WRC:

You know when you have the urge to put on 'white girl music™' and driver at high speeds? Yeah that is what Rally feels like. We've had two rallys, and are going to Kenya in two weeks. For Rally i just recommend putting it on whenever, no need for past races. Just put the onboard on and listen.

Unfortunately there is no primer for WRC (yet) and I don't think it has a tv series like the others do (yet).

Ooooooh the classics!! Love them all, except sadly not a big fan of tcm. I'm starting with Malignant because I haven't seen it yet, but I think next I'm gonna watch Brothers Grim or Van Helsing.. im in the mood for monsters and bloody billowy shirts lol

I recommend Hellhole. A Polish movie on Netflix that has that possession, priest, demonic vibe but it's very different from the American horror.

Also always always will recommend The Ritual, one of my favorite horror movies again on Netflix. About guys that go into the Norwegian woods and come across some accent, ritualistic shit. Very cool, very good visuals and has a monster hehe.

- 3 ships: its soooo hard to pick just three... theres a few OC ships that are dear to me, but for media ones. i just finished plvspw so eve/espella is very vivid rn. ryunosuke/sherlock (tgaa) has taken over my life last year! 2022 was also the year harry/kim (disco elysium) found me. other persistent conditions include sora/riku (kingdom hearts), naruto/gaara (naruto), merlin/arthur (bbc merlin) and prompto/noctis (ffxv)

- first ever ship: takeru and hikari from digimon adventure 1 and 2... (daisuke/ken, taichi/yamato and others are still big faves but takari was the first...)

- last song: they stay down deep by giselle (from edens sherlock playlist sobbie...)

- last movie: guillermo del toro's pinocchio and wendell and wild close together. both were really wonderful

- currently playing (i havent read anything except recc'd fanfic lately so keeping the playing): just finished plvspw, i think im gonna play aai1 next? but im also playing telling lies for the first time so i can play immortality next AND im gonna replay the monkey island and longest journey/dreamfall series!!

OH MY GOSH U HAVE SIX OF CROWS ON YOUR TBR!!!!!! i recently read that duology and i loved it. i will genuinely take those two books to my grave. they've become one of my 5 star reads!!

im not sure if you've watched the netflix series "shadow and bone" but i did! mainly bc i wanted to get a gist of the setting, magic, etc., without having to read the original trilogy. (also partly because i've seen reviews saying that the trilogy wasn't great 😭 so i just didnt want to go through that and went straight to the netflix show) thankfully, there wasn't too much spoilers for the main characters of "six of crows"! (a little bit from their past tho? but i didn't really mind those much) anyway im kinda glad i did that bc i could imagine the characters and setting of six of crows so well !! like i imagined each character as the actors from the show and it was like i could hear their voices in my head. it was amazing !! this is just me gushing ab books bc WOW i love that duology so bad

Yes!!! I do have it on my TBR!! I also have it irl too

I recently started to get back into books. Ya girl has severe adhd so it was always really hard for me to stay present while reading. But I now read in tandem with audiobooks!! That’s how I’ve been reading most things and it helps me so much!! My favorites are when they have separate voices for each character. I’m waiting for my next audible credit to get the six of crows audio (only available through Amazon audible smh 🙄). I’m excited for that one because it’s not just one VO but multiple voice actors!!

And I have seen the show! Partially why I wanted to read the book! I heard that the show runners loved the Crows so much that they added it into the adaptation instead of just focusing on the Grisha!! (not fact-checked) and then I started reading Kaz x reader fics and lowkey wanted to read it even more (if you’re into that kind of thing @swanimagines is a BRILLIANT writer and her Kaz fics are my favorite).

I’m obsessed with this one book series called ‘Cradle’ by Will Wight. I would need a whole other post about that one. I listened to the audiobooks twice (there are 10 🫣😭 but they’re relatively short books).

i went back to watch wano after catching up (im like halfway through the arc) and genuinely the animation is so good!! (its also rly funny because they made zoro super sexy at every opportunity.. they upped his fanservice by a million. i love it. as a zoro fan.) its probably worth it to watch the anime for that part if ur interested?? although the pacing is still super slow so it might be better to read the manga first and THEN watch wano if ur still hyperfixated on one piece at that point. i went back to wano cuz i was feeling sad about being caught up and not having any more content to consume.

ive seen clips of the fights and they look so fantastic and cool and hype and AGH . i havent gotten to any big fights yet but its been a lot of fun seeing the characters all colored and .. moving. its also kind of sad to watch though cuz you can TELL some of the voice actors are really struggling. my love franky.. i love his voice acting but he sounds so rough in wano :((. his is probably the most obvious example but if u pay attention u can tell with most of the voice actors who've been doing the show for a long time.

i havent watched the live action because netflix sucks (i dont live with the account owner currently and i HAVE TO if i want to use netflix) but i have seen how many people have gotten into one piece bc of it, and i have seen a lot of clips. and i know people love it and its very highly regarded. (also i kinda love what they did with sanji (i miss his twirly eyebrows though 😭)) so i have a lot of respect for it despite never watching it myself!! im also so excited for "the one piece" bc even though i know next to nothing about it, if its adapting this wonderful universe full of lovable characters in a way that actually HELPS the manga rather than HURTS it.. well. how could i complain.

i DO think u got into one piece at a really good time!! ive heard a lot of "if you want to get into one piece, this is your last chance" and "now is the best time to start one piece" and i think theyre right. although hearing its your "last chance" is kind of anxiety inducing personally LOL. i think itll be really difficult to avoid spoilers after the series ends though so in that sense.. theyre probably correct. at the pace youre going i dont think one piece will end before you catch up. oda's on a 3 week break right now too so imo you have plenty of time!! i think wano is about 150 chapters and theres a LOT going on so it might take you a while, but this is the final SAGA not the final arc dont worry!! im picturing the straw hats visit at least 2 more islands after the current arc. although obviously im not oda so i have no idea if thats accurate LOL

i think no matter what im gonna feel like i have questions unanswered when one piece ends, just cuz i am so insanely invested in . the whole world of one piece. i want to know everything about everything. but i DO think oda will answer the big questions, and i agree that he probably wont just leave us wondering. the newest arc is already kind of answering a lot of questions (and... developing MORE mysteries LMAO)

i hope i didnt make you feel like its WRONG to like sanji bc it isnt!! just cuz i cant get behind him doesnt mean that i think people who like him are bad people or anything remotely like that. i mean. i love doflamingo. and hes an AWFUL person. i hate his guts... but i love him. hes such an interesting character and i want to dissect him and analyze him and . i love to think about him. and hes comforting in some weird way.

so u loving sanji is no issue!! i dont want u to feel like u have to defend urself (although i DO like hearing ur reasoning behind why you like him because its interesting, and it makes me think harder about how i feel about him).

also personally i dont see an issue with consuming media that is problematic in some ways. if the creator is a bad person i think its fine as long as ur not excusing their actions!! i would kind of rather not support oda because i dont like him as a person (which is a personal decision, im not gonna criticize people who support him financially), but i do LOVE one piece and yes. his biases DO affect the story.. but since i dislike oda i usually say "fuck the word of god" and do what i want with the characters. i think its a lot more fun that way!!

sanji is such a mess (affectionately) so i can definitely see the appeal!! half the reason i love one piece characters so much is bc theyre all so SILLY. so unbearably silly. they all have stupid moments, they all have funny moments, and i adore silly people. my dislike for sanji is, mostly, resentment borne out of my intense hatred for being pushed into a box by society. it is almost purely personal. like yes him being a pervert is disgusting and annoying and i hate it, but i think i would be able to ignore it if i didnt feel so personally attacked??? by him?? LOL. i think thats kind of silly tbh . i would usually be able to brush his pervertedness off as a flaw of oda's rather than something to blame sanji for. but since i already have some ... *intense* feelings towards him, the pervert thing just serves to fuel my anger.

but all of that is just My Personal Feelings about him!! i do love him in headcanon/fanon most of the time, and even if i hate him in canon i still also love him purely because hes a straw hat and i love and adore all of the straw hats. they feel like real people to me. and i am obsessed with them. i root for them at any chance and i believe they will find the one piece... if they werent the main characters and therefore guaranteed to find the one piece i would still believe in them 1000%!! <- big nerd thing to say .

also one thing i wanted to ask u about is if u noticed the parallels during whole cake island between sanji taking luffy food and the flashback of sanji taking sora food?? i LOVED that moment. he runs through the rain, has to try to keep a dog from eating the food, and when he finally gives it to the person its all soggy and wet and he apologizes. but they say its delicious. and they smile. i KNOW he was thinking of his mom at that moment with luffy. and i just... ugh.. sanji . sobbing . maybe u talked about rhis and i just missed it but I NEED to know that u saw it.. my favorite sanji lover

WANO’S ANIMATION LOOKS SOOOO PRETTY…i wont lie ive watched a few clips bc i couldnt help myself. Im still in the middle of WCI but i want to get to wano sooo bad. And i probably will just read wano first (bc . time) but i ABSOLUTELY want to watch it at some point. And yes they 100% picked up on the zoro fanservice my god (i am ALSO a zoro fan. YEA THE VOICE ACTORS MANNN 😭 I prefer the dub bc i actually like everyone’s voices and its what im used to (except luffy, i do prefer sub for him) but i know the og voice actors are getting up there in age…Part of the reason i don’t like the sub as much is bc you can tell the VA’s are way older than the characters they’re voicing and it’s just a bit. Odd (as much as i love the VAs and obvi it’d be weird to change it at this point)

netflix does suck !!!! i was living with my bro at the time so i watched it on his account but yea i dont have access to watching it anymore either :( taz skylar my fucking beloved. The live action cast is all insane. Theyre so cute and funny every single one of them. If u have extra time u should watch all the funny cast videos they did on youtube where they play charades and do little prompts together. The clips of them interacting at cons and out doing promo for the show is usually pretty cute too. Opla wasnt perfect or necessary but it was fun as hell and u can tell the showrunners had a passion for the show.

I keep making progress in chunks so hopefully i can catch up within the next few months 🧍ive been so busy i havent been able to read in a while! (and also. And coming off of that DUDE I LOVE DOFFY. I watch a lot of melonteee on youtube and even before i was anywhere near doffy they had me on the doflamingo train. He is so insane and weird and downright evil. i drew him one time 😶‍🌫️My last big fandom back in like 2014-2017 was JJBA and my favorite character as Dio and let me tell you. The similarities between their characters is insane (oda / araki crossover event when,)

The only difference is that doffy is written to be downright evil, while sanji is supposed to be seen in a good/humorous light even though his worst jokes are uh. Not great joke material (momoiro island and all of sanji’s weirdest pervert gags appears behind me). Thanks oda 👍i still get what ur saying though!

And tbh i dont blame you at all for disliking his (or any) character for personal reasons. Its really not that silly. Having recently discovered i might be kinda trans does not do his bits any favors lmao.
