I literally have no idea why analog horror fandoms and even the creators of them themselves are always some of the most… I have the moral high ground people I’ve ever seen???
You are creating some seriously fucked up shit but for some reason you draw such a hard line when it’s not that, just gore and violence and death. Of course if you don’t want to see certain things that is totally fair, you do you, I do me, we chill otherwise. But man, usually it’s just: respect my boundaries (good!) but also fuck you and everything you are I hope you die (?????why?)
I guess it just bothers me because I love certain analog horror but either the creator or co-creator will be so aggressive about it. It’s fine if you don’t like it and don’t wanna see it, but don’t act like it needs to cease to exist this very second.
The fandoms are usually worse, but man it just sucks the joy out of fandoms I enjoyed a lot once. It sucks.

at some point it's just like. do they even fucking like the thing they're asking AI to make? "oh we'll just use AI for all the scripts" "we'll just use AI for art" "no worries AI can write this book" "oh, AI could easily design this"
like... it's so clear they've never stood in the middle of an art museum and felt like crying, looking at a piece that somehow cuts into your marrow even though the artist and you are separated by space and time. they've never looked at a poem - once, twice, three times - just because the words feel like a fired gun, something too-close, clanging behind your eyes. they've never gotten to the end of the movie and had to arrive, blinking, back into their body, laughing a little because they were holding their breath without realizing.
"oh AI can mimic style" "AI can mimic emotion" "AI can mimic you and your job is almost gone, kid."
... how do i explain to you - you can make AI that does a perfect job of imitating me. you could disseminate it through the entire world and make so much money, using my works and my ideas and my everything.
and i'd still keep writing.
i don't know there's a word for it. in high school, we become aware that the way we feel about our artform is a cliche - it's like breathing. over and over, artists all feel the same thing. "i write because i need to" and "my music is how i speak" and "i make art because it's either that or i stop existing." it is such a common experience, the violence and immediacy we mean behind it is like breathing to me - comes out like a useless understatement. it's a cliche because we all feel it, not because the experience isn't actually persistent. so many of us have this ... fluttering urgency behind our ribs.
i'm not doing it for the money. for a star on the ground in some city i've never visited. i am doing it because when i was seven i started taking notebooks with me on walks. i am doing it because in second grade i wrote a poem and stood up in front of my whole class to read it out while i shook with nerves. i am doing it because i spent high school scribbling all my feelings down. i am doing it for the 16 year old me and the 18 year old me and the today-me, how we can never put the pen down. you can take me down to a subatomic layer, eviscerate me - and never find the source of it; it is of me. when i was 19 i named this blog inkskinned because i was dramatic and lonely and it felt like the only thing that was actually permanently-true about me was that this is what is inside of me, that the words come up over everything, coat everything, bloom their little twilight arias into every nook and corner and alley
"we're gonna replace you". that is okay. you think that i am writing to fill a space. that someone said JOB OPENING: Writer Needed, and i wrote to answer. you think one raindrop replaces another, and i think they're both just falling. you think art has a place, that is simply arrives on walls when it is needed, that is only ever on demand, perfect, easily requested. you see "audience spending" and "marketability" and "multi-line merch opportunity"
and i see a kid drowning. i am writing to make her a boat. i am writing because what used to be a river raft has long become a fully-rigged ship. i am writing because you can fucking rip this out of my cold dead clammy hands and i will still come back as a ghost and i will still be penning poems about it.
it isn't even love. the word we use the most i think is "passion". devotion, obsession, necessity. my favorite little fact about the magic of artists - "abracadabra" means i create as i speak. we make because it sluices out of us. because we look down and our hands are somehow already busy. because it was the first thing we knew and it is our backbone and heartbreak and everything. because we have given up well-paying jobs and a "real life" and the approval of our parents. we create because - the cliche again. it's like breathing. we create because we must.
you create because you're greedy.
#every time someones like ''AI will replace u" im like. u will have to fucking KILL ME#there is no replacement here bc i am not filling a position. i am just writing#and the writing is what i need to be doing#writeblr#this probably doesn't make sense bc its sooo frustrating i rarely speak it the way i want to#edited for the typo wrote it and then was late to a meeting lol#i love u people who mention my typos genuinely bc i don't always catch them!!!! :) it is doing me a genuine favor!!!#my friend says i should tell you ''thank you beta editors'' but i don't know what that means#i made her promise it isn't a wolf fanfiction thing. so if it IS a wolf thing she is DEAD to me (just kidding i love her)#hey PS PS PS ??? if ur reading this thinking what it's saying is ''i am financially capable of losing this'' ur reading it wrong#i write for free. i always have. i have worked 5-7 jobs at once to make ends meet.#i did not grow up with access or money. i did not grow up with connections or like some kind of excuse#i grew up and worked my fucking ASS OFF. and i STILL!!! wrote!!! on the side!!! because i didn't know how not to!!!#i do not write for money!!!! i write because i fuckken NEED TO#i could be in the fucking desert i could be in the fuckken tundra i could be in total darkness#and i would still be writing pretentious angsty poetry about it#im not in any way saying it's a good thing. i'm not in any way implying that they're NOT tryna kill us#i'm saying. you could take away our jobs and we could go hungry and we could suffer#and from that suffering (if i know us) we'd still fuckin make art.#i would LOVE to be able to make money doing this! i never have been able to. but i don't NEED to. i will find a way to make my life work#even if it means being miserable#but i will not give up this thing. for the whole world.

It is genuinely so sad to me that I'm seeing companies put Pride merch and the like on their shelves and their social media solely during Pride Month. Yes, it's a time to celebrate for many queer people, but where are these companies the rest of the year? And so many homo/transphobic people telling them "oh you'll lose money like this. You will lose money for siding with the gays" like it's not a fucking cash-grab for them. They don't care about us. We're a market to them. All of their "support" is sure to disappear after the month is over, and it just starts again next year, and it just keeps going. While I'm sure there are some people in those companies who genuinely care, the companies in general don't. What they do is nowhere near enough to be considered "supportive" of us. And it's so tiring, because it's a nice gesture, or at least it would be, if some of these companies *cough* the entire fucking entertainment industry *cough* weren't silencing queer voices the other 11 months of the year.
Trying to end this on an optimistic note, tell a queer person that you're happy to know them. In times like these, we all need it. (And besides this is Tumblr, who doesn't know any?) Even if that person is you. Go up to your mirror. Idk.

once I sat in on my professors virtual lecture about the return of art to African nations, specifically one of the Smithsonian museums returning some Benin works, and someone in the comments was saying it was better for European and American museums to keep African artworks because they’re safer and instead of internalizing my frustration I said something to the tune of “well the dc museums aren’t that safe i could blow up the museum of African art tomorrow they don’t check bags that thoroughly” and didn’t realize how fucked up that sounded until a couple minutes later.
Also a better argument for the return of such works would be that the preservation of art does not take priority over respecting the cultural artifacts of others. And that the decisions of how said artifacts are managed or used belong to the originating culture, or their descendants. US museums don’t get to claim the authority over artworks of other nations/cultures. If I make a beautiful piece of artwork tomorrow of great cultural significance, the Smithsonian would be in the wrong to take it from my home without my consent even if I was planning to tear it apart and feed it to my dogs. It’s my stuff I get to choose! Call me crazy but I don’t believe keeping the Art shiny and safe is more important than respecting human beings that make things!
And of course the implication of all this humming and hawing is that western institutions Know Better. They know how Art should be treated, maintained, managed, looked at, made, etc. It’s written into the conditions western museums make for the return of pillaged african artworks, that there be an acceptable institution (museum) to manage said objects upon their return. Ignoring the fact that many such objects were kept by family groups or religious leaders and that not every group that’s had their objects stolen has a museum to return it to.

The internal fight with your brain when You actually did kinda decent at learning a language years ago but because you never got to practice it the translations just sorta.... left your head.
So years later you’re hearing the words and every part of your brain is going “I KNOW THAT WORD! I LEARNED THAT WORD! I KNOW WHAT THIS SENTENCE MEAN” but absolutely will not elaborate

The canon heights are a lie.
According to my calculations, Optimus should be 9 meters tall and Starscream should be 13 meters tall. If you take the dimensions of their Masterpiece figurines (both alt and root mode) into account and then use the dimensions of the real vehicles they mimic to scale them up, this is what you get.
Tumblr media
Here’s how an interaction between Optimus and Starscream should actually look. There is no way in Hell that an F-15 is shorter than a fucking semi-truck. The F-15 has a wingspan of 42 feet 9.75 inches and a length of 63 feet 9 inches. Meanwhile, the Freightliner FL86 cab over semi truck (the model Optimus scans in G1) is roughly ~23 feet long and ~9.8 feet tall.
Without mass-shifting, Starscream would completely dwarf Optimus Prime. It’s not even close.

(genshin impact spoilers incoming)
one aspect of furina's characterization that's pretty understated but that i really really really love is her intelligence and curiosity. usually in genshin, when a character's intelligence is an important trait of theirs, there are aspects of their design, writing, voice acting, etc, that very clearly tell you "hey this character is smart." albedo, for example, wears a labcoat, is always saying big sciency words in a calm, rational tone of voice, and other characters are always talking about how smart he is
but furina? nothing about her on the surface suggests that she's a "smart" character - quite the opposite, in fact. superficially, she's introduced as a bratty, conceited, overconfident person who actually has no idea what she's doing. we eventually learn in the archon quest that that was all an act, but even after she regains her freedom, nothing about her really seems archetypically intelligent, at least at face value
instead, furina's intelligence is always shown rather than told (the only exception being nahida's voiceline about her). she had an intelligence network across teyvat feeding her information, and we saw in the flashback how she directed researchers to study the prophecy and potential ways of stopping it. before things like lyney's trial or directing the two musketeers, she'd stay up all night planning and piecing things together all on her own. she loves learning new things, she has lines in the teapot about how, when she's interested in something, she wants to become the most knowledgeable person in the topic, and also how she'd like to disassemble the teapot itself to learn how it works, and she's quick to learn new skills (like surfing). and, of course, she's well read, and quite possibly teyvat's foremost expert on the performing arts
i like how furina sort of defies the concept of character archetypes. she's initially presented as an archetypical bratty, dramatic, spoiled popular girl, but that was a role she forced herself into because it's what people expected of her. but the real furina, while still retaining some of the flamboyance from her archon persona, doesn't really fit into a clear mold. she's smart without being a super-genius, and she's kind without being a soft-spoken doormat. it makes her feel multifaceted and real, and i really love that!
anyway, this is why it makes me mad whenever i see people calling furina stupid, cuz she's not!

"In this world, I'm known as...the Winter King" 🌨❄️🌬
This cosplay was so so close to never seeing the light of day, as this was the aforementioned project I rage quit to procrastinate with Nekomancer on haha. I really adored the fionna and cake special (and adventure time in general) and wanted to cosplay from it for eons...although I will admit this project was intended to be "generic blue and silver winter regal outfit for a variety of characters" and it was a toss up on whether or not the first run was going to go to the Winter King/Simon or Jack Frost...but I couldn't find my jack frost wig so here we are!
This was my first time working a lot with velvet and low key....I loved it and would love to use it more.

love for that all tlt is supposed to be reworked homestuck fanfic, nobody can agree on what it originally was. which is a long way to say that I had to see someone accuse it of being a lesbian rose/dave rework once.
it's crazy it's almost like despite the fact that TLT has a lot of similarities to stuff taz did in the homestuck fandom/shows its influences she's a talented and competent writer who was able turn those influences into fully unique characters and settings that can't be 1:1 compared to fanfiction she wrote a decade ago. it's almost like Filing Serial Numbers off of fanfiction to publish it outright as an expy for those same dynamics is something that happens when you have an unskilled or lazy writer try and transition into publishing original work.

I proudly present, the (not quite 100% accurate) maps for Decked Out 2’s level 3: The Black Mines
Floor 1:
Tumblr media
Floor 2:
Tumblr media
Floor 3:
Tumblr media
The foreman's office:
Tumblr media
Please note that these maps are primarily based on Tango’s tour stream and video from 3-ish months ago. Changes have likely been made since then, of which I am aware - I vaguely remember him saying he removed the water from the water room because Wardens - but knowledge of the new looks of these rooms will not magically change these maps.
I will be doing a map for the Burning Dark, but I'll obviously have to wait until the hermits can sufficiently explore that level once it is released. Until then, I'm going to try to tackle the other part of this project and actually write that mini dnd campaign based on this amazing game.
Maps were made with inkarnate.
