People are too hard on Wilhelm sometimes. I feel like I see “Wilhelm was never there for Simon/never comforted Simon” a lot and it’s just not true; I feel like people focus so much on Wille’s mistakes that they forget about the good things he does as well.

When they fight about the drugs in the music room, Wille doesn’t exactly come into the argument from the best angle, but he does make it clear he wants to talk to Simon about it, and Simon walks off before they can make things right. After that, Simon stops talking to him, and it’s Wille who tries to make things right between them, reaches out, and approaches him to talk things out at Lucia.

You could perhaps argue that he threw Alexander under the bus so that he himself wouldn’t lose Simon, and there’s probably a bit of truth in that, but I don’t think that has to be the only reason and I do also think he did it for Simon’s well-being as well.

When the video leaks, Simon turns off his phone (which is understandable, I’d probably do the same thing; this post is not about criticizing Simon), and it’s Wille who reaches out once again and tells him he wants to talk about it. I feel like in another show Wille would’ve tried to ignore Simon even harder than in the past, but no, he wants to see him and talk. When they’re in the locker room together, he holds Simon’s hands and strokes them gently, lets Simon rest his head on his shoulder and tells him exactly what his family wants him to do about the situation. He communicates.

Wille fucks up, yes, he’s in a shitty situation and is being forced to make impossible decisions, and he doesn’t always fully consider Simon’s feelings, but there are many times in which he does and I just feel like those times get ignored a lot and people focus way too much on his mistakes. He’s not as self-centred as people say he is; he can definitely be self-involved sometimes, but I think it’s kind of understandable given how fucked up the situation he’s in is.

Wilhelm and Simon are both teenagers and neither of their communication skills are perfect (Simon basically hides everything that’s going on in his life/everything he’s feeling and Wilhelm tends to get so overwhelmed by his own problems that he fails to consider the impact he has on others), and I think that’s what makes both of them so human and compelling. I think them taking a step back from their relationship was necessary for both of them at the time and I can’t wait to see how they come back together. Maybe Simon can teach Wilhelm a little bit about decentralizing himself and Wilhelm can teach Simon how to open up a little bit more.

aside from simon and baz being adorable cohabitating boyfriends (still screaming about the wall kissing) snow for christmas made me sad.

baz doesn't want to be closeted by his family - about his queerness and his vampirism. "everything i am is something no one can mention." everyone is so excited at dinner about him eating with them as a family, but the reason he never ate with them before was because they can't stand to acknowledge what he is. simon never cared about the fangs. baz's family didn't have to care either, but that would require seeing their children as children and not props.

what is malcom really excited about at dinner? he's excited about this part of his child, the part he has always despised, being out of sight at long last. he's so glad he doesn't have to look at this part of his son that he's willing to tolerate the other thing about baz that he hates (queerness). he's pleased with simon because he thinks simon is the one who made the unmentionable thing go away. there's nothing heartwarming in that.

simon loves that baz is a vampire, even the gross parts. baz can kiss him with rat blood on his mouth and simon doesn't blink. simon wants to go hunting and watch baz drink. he thinks it's gorgeous. baz's own family can't bring themselves to love him that much.

this christmas with the grimms doesn't feel like a first step. it feels like a continuation of the same old shitty cycle.

Allowed! Allowed! Allowed! They convey this information to us through a choose-your-own-adventure game where Simon makes all the choices! They say he could have noticed this… thing that he never once noticed until it was clearly spelled out to him. He could have offered to go with Betty - Like she was simply not capable of speaking up for herself? Like it was completely out of the question for her to ever say “I’d actually rather do my own thing” (like we haven’t seen her many, many, many times charging ahead with her own plans and ideas no matter what people say to her)? Like the only way she could ever have made choices more focused on herself is if Simon made them for her.

I don’t think this is even actually what the writers meant to say. But the way they do all this leaves such a bad taste in my mouth regardless.

it is incredibly easy to tell when people can not write simon blackquill because his speech — at least for his TwIsTeD sAmUrAi persona — is so distinct. it’s difficult for me to explain in words, but if you look at the game transcripts for any period of time you should be able to get a sense for it and it is so aggravating to see fanworks where he isn’t yapping like some victorian era chap with a disposition for the macabre. a heinous fiend pried from the pages of penny dreadful.

“from the outset, i had no intention of paying heed to any of your babble”? bars. he calls apollo a “whelp.” impeccable. “the defendant sought to sow this confusion”? brilliant. “nothing but claptrap and balderdash if you ask me”? iconic. read some 18th century literature or ask the spirit of jane austen for her aid before putting the name of simon blackquill in your mouth my good chap

I love Simon so much and understand every decision he’s made & don’t judge him. Wille is still my fave and my baby cuz I relate to him too hard. When Simon gets hate I get mad and defend him, but when Wille gets hate I’m ready to meet people in the pit to fight to the death. Like it makes me feral. I feel like the vast majority of viewers and fandom members are understanding and supportive of both of them even though I have seen people overly critical of both of them as well. What frustrated me about some of the criticism for Wille in s3 is that people are very sympathetic to what Simon is going through- losing love for his interests, kind of disappearing, being sad- and almost blaming Wille for it. Instead of remembering and understanding that THIS IS WHAT WILLE HAS DEALT WITH HIS ENTIRE LIFE. He has not lost interests because he hasn’t even had the opportunity to discover what he’s really interested in. He lost himself a long time ago, when he was still a child and it’s only continued. Meeting Simon was where he began to really FIND himself. He never wanted the life that he was given, and particularly did not want to be forced into the role of Crown Prince. But he’s also had no opportunity to just figure himself out and find out all the things that he might love and the things that he might want to do. It’s just so SAD. I would never judge Simon from making the decisions that he felt were right for him, I completely understand it and do not blame him at all. I just get really touchy about when I see people claiming that Wille was “dragging Simon down”. Simon had to deal with this for a few months and look how it negatively affected him. Wille has had to deal with it his whole life, and it only got worse when he became crown prince. Simon had a choice and Wille didn’t feel that he did. But he was wrong. Sometimes it just takes someone else from the outside to help you gain perspective and realize that you truly do have a choice.

A frustrating bit about the idea that Yurie is called the last scholar because of her having been one of the OG Byrgenwerth squad is her visible age.. Willem was already a sluggish ancient self even in Laurence's flashback and is still alive, for all we know the time in Byrgenwerth really has stopped as 95% of it is drifting between reality and Nightmare, but.. why at the expense of some wrinkles :pensive:

Would just be pretty great if she looked like a 50+ years old! (around 20 as Byrgenwerth scholar and at least 30 years since then because if Hunter's Dream has about 360 gravestones, it means 360 full moons ie at least 30 years of it existing) But, I guess it IS just a version?

did the math and over the course of my winter break i watched/read/listened to 119 dr who things

#ari opinion hour #and i dont regret it one bit.#this is what having a semester where you have (and take this as literally as possible) zero free time does to a mf #im never doing a schedule like that again lmao #oh yea and i also mended...#hmm idk exactly how many things i mended but ik it was at MINIMUM 8 socks 3 pairs of underwear and 2 patches added to my jacket #but yea #things i hadnt seen before: 49 tv episodes (tw dw class) 21 audios (tw 8 10) 1 audioBOOK 4 novels (tw dw) and 1 comic #then 14 mini episodes (farewell sarah jane and captain jacks monster files from s4)#things i HAD seen before: 19 tv episodes (dw tw sja) and all 10 episodes of dw redacted s1 #highlights (not necessarily a top 10 but just things i really liked of various formats):#TV: random shoes‚ captain jack harkness‚ a day in the death‚ immortal sins (torchwood) + the metaphysical engine or what quill did (class)#NOVELS: the pirate loop by simon guerrier + the house that jack built by guy adams #AUDIOS: fall to earth (torchwood main range) + time reaver (tenth doctor adventures)#and then honorable mention to the trickster's brigade episode of captain jacks monster files for making me go Insane
