You know, I'm not much of a deep thinker LMAO so after reading your question at first I was like 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤕 because I never really thought about that! But after looking at it with fresh eyes.... I think definitely Baekhyun embodies spring. Not only because Baek can be so bright and beautiful and can light up the room and everyone's mood and all, but because he is SUCH a hard worker and always strives to better himself. To answer your question, Baekhyun is the main character but Chanyeol does have a significant role as well! You’ll come to see that I write mostly Baekhyun…as a supposed Chanchen stan 😆

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that I’ve grown a little weary of Exo’s powers (I say this very lightly because even I have written the powers), BUT I do enjoy when writers swap their abilities or completely change them, (giving Minseok fire powers for example).

If you like X-EXO stories, you should check out the story “Don’t Wake Me” by @vampwrrr . Baekhyun is one of the protagonists. It’s a fresh take on the concept. I think it’ll surprise you how Exo’s alter egos are used! The writer is a great storyteller and doesn’t settle for the typical fanfiction tropes & settings. They’re also Baekhyun biased.

no, my real name is based off how easy it would've been for my grandma to say, who doesn't speak english. my parents kind of failed on that basis haha (there are 2 pronunciations of my name and i prefer one rather than the other!) but my name's alright

...yes, kind of accidentally? i think i just use it for emphasis rather than like the ~sarcasm is my only language~ type. irl my voice and tone is very blunt/firm/dry so a lot of people think i'm being sarcastic when i'm serious/just talking etc!!! and i have no control over it!!!

5. What sports do you play/have you played?

i played badminton as a kid. i did ultimate before i realized that would be too much running and now i do spikeball, which is excellent for people who hate sports. but i seriously do love spikeball because as someone who doesn't really Sport it's not too hard (minimal amount of running, focus on hand eye coordination and reflexes) so it's accessible to people who aren't athletic (me)

i don't know. vibes? if i think i would like them? i'm wary of people at first so it's probably vibes. ngl i'm the type to be very self focused so i'm usually just focused on introducing myself and getting them into the Group so they don't feel uncomfortable

no! i desperately want a cat though. a russian blue is probably like the ideal cat for me but i don't have my own place and it's doubtful i'll get one anytime soon! i'm also open to other hypoallergenic cats but i don't know how much better they'll be in comp to a russian blue bc i met one before and my allergies weren't as bad-- unrelated but i am seeing a cat today everyone plz cheer for me. i really hope that cat likes me but i will respect his personal space bc apparently he's shy

HIIIIIIIIIIIII okay hold on i myself am still somewhat new to this (well, i remember halloween 2021 as the first event i was playing during), but let me give you the basics. Very long text ahead.

Before I start yapping about the gameplay, I'll tell you about the characters, the storyline and the music (to the best of my understanding anyway) - [nicki minaj meme] so there's this Theater. Starless is, like, a show restaurant. You come in, you grab a meal, you watch some guys sing, you have a good time, right? There's currently 5 teams: K, W, P, C and B. There were only 3 in the beginning, but certain characters branched out of K/W/P and formed their own teams, which were C and B. Now, the story itself is a bit... dark? I suppose you could say. You play as Saki (you can change her name ofc) and, right from the start, you're being chased by some weirdos;;; but Kei (the top of Team K) saves you just in time and - whoops! Turns out you know eachother. Freaky, right? Saki doesn't remember him, though, from what I understood, but listening to one of their songs made her faint, and basically now she has to be protected by these guys at Starless because dangerous stuff's been happening. It's quite... convoluted, there's speculations of human experimentation from what I've read - but yeah. There's also the whole "all of the former owners of Starless went missing" thing, and the Black Card business, there's a lot of intrigue to it. It makes me wish I was better at Japanese so reading a single chapter doesn't have to be a full-day job! The whole game's got a mature feel to it, so it's not really an "idol game" imo - there's not even much emphasis on the power of friendship or hard work as with most other idol-raising games. Despite being teams, most of them have deep rivalries between eachother, not to mention the drama that happens between members of different teams. Some outright hate one another. Plus, the characters are all older and, well, more mature. The youngest one, I believe, was born in 2001, but most seem to be late 80s-90s (and, yeah, instead of just a birthday, they have full DOBs, so they age up each year lol). Also, for some reason, so many of them just have their tits out on full display most of the time. The outfits are... well, like the story, they sure are mature. They'll get pneumonia, but it's eye candy, I suppose lmao anyway the event stories are also really fun to read and, though it's not otome, there are a lot of interactions with certain characters that will make you go🥰🥰 - though a majority will be from Kei and Heath since the two (seem to be) childhood friends of Saki's. That said, you can absolutely swoon over any of the characters, trust me. I believe Otome Ayui on YouTube translated a chunk of the main story and some event stories, but otherwise, if you don't know Japanese, you'll probably have to make do with computer translations or a dictionary since I, personally, haven't found any other translations. It's so worth it, though.

As for the teams, as I said before, currently we have five. I'll also say something about the characters, but I think it'll be obvious who my faves are lmao anyway, you've got Team K (from the top, clockwise: Kei, Yoshino, Yakou, Ginsei, Gui, Sotetsu), Kei is like the main main guy, he cares a lot for Saki and wants to protect her. Ginsei is really loyal to him, it's a bit cute to watch. Gui is who's interesting to me in Team K - he's pretty stoic and emotionless, but he keeps mentioning waiting for someone he calls "Master". Yakou used to be in Team P, but quit, and then returned after finishing university, he gives me a cute genki vibe. Yoshino is a bit of a ball of anxiety, he's cute, but timid. Sotetsu is the lone wolf, but he can be quite bold with Saki at times.

Team W (Kokuyou, Akira, Taiga, Sin, Takami). Kokuyou's got these dog tags on him that I'm pretty sure say "Chiaki" on them, but that's for another day. He's a bit scary and has some anger issues but <333 lol Akira is the token flirt of Team W, he's a little shameless, but has said once that Saki is "special" to him so? Anyway. I can't say much about Taiga because he speaks in such heavy slang I can barely keep up, but I guess the fact that he speaks in a lot of slang is also something that tells about a character. He's an IT nerd who's physically weak, though, I've figured that out. Sin is like the gentle giant, he's huge, but really intelligent. He speaks in, I can't even say in riddles, it sounds more like prophecies. It's odd, but he can really make pretty words flow. Takami is the reliant big brother type, and he has acted in musicals before, though I don't really trust him, somehow his way of speaking evokes trustworthiness a little too much, ironically. Maybe that's just my bias against bespectacled anime characters, though.

Team P (Rindou, Menou, Nekome, Ginsei (yes, again), Sinju, Maica). Rindou and Sinju used to be idols before joining Starless. Yakou was actually in Sinju's idol group, but they have some beef now. Rindou is pretty mild-mannered, responsible and gentle, he even speaks formally, to the point that, when he's introduced around the same time as characters like Kokuyou and Mizuki, it almost makes you feel like he doesn't belong. Menou is the token always-sleepy character, he speaks so cutely because of it, though. A scene that is locked into my memory is, during Team B's onsen event, apparently they just found him sleeping in their hotel room lololol but he becomes a completely different person on stage with how well he dances and acts. Nekome is Taiga's older brother, he basically raised him on his own. He was one of the first members of Starless, but he ran away and was considered missing at one point. Apparently he regrets that, but I don't trust him, either. Sinju is the really genki character, he's full of energy and just <3 so cute <3, he respects Rindou a lot and is really hard-working. Maica is the tsundere here, but seeing him blush is so worth every single one of his harsh words. He's really pretty, but hates being judged on appearance and hates being told he looks like a girl.

Team C (Mokuren, Zakuro, Kasumi, Hari, Qu) - I want to note this here, all of the characters (to my knowledge) are men, except for Mokuren. In their introduction video, their gender was listed as "unknown" so I (and I believe I've seen others) use they/them for Mokuren. Anyway, they consider dancing the essence of their life. Though their profile says they show no interest in anything other than dance, their hobby is listed as "eating" and, let me tell you, can Mokuren eat. Zakuro's way of speaking is absolutely amazing, he's always dropping "oya oya"s and dramatic phrases. Listening to him talk is wonderful, but I don't trust a word he says. He's definitely hiding something behind that JoJo pose. Kasumi mostly keeps to the background, he prefers not being seen and is actually really good at hiding his energy that he often scares people when he starts talking lol he calls himself a "mob" (like a faceless side-character), and seems to prefer it that way. I don't know much about Hari, but he seems like the cool type, a bit of a jack of all trades. And Qu - he's the fashion and make-up loving type. He used to work as a drag queen, which isn't something you often see in media like this so it stuck out to me.

Team B (Mizuki, Heath, Kongou, Ran, Lico). Mizuki is like. A wild dog. He had a rough childhood and a lot of street smarts, but not much regular smarts. He's also a bit of a tsundere, but there's a good heart in him, I believe. Always down to fight. It's really funny hearing him go wild, his voice is sorta higher-pitched, so it's entertaining. Heath is the token sickly character, he has lung issues, I think? Coughed up blood once. Heath is really attached to music and doesn't like others singing the songs he wrote. Because he tends to push himself, the others scold him sometimes. He also does tarot! I think he's faded out here because he's still in the hospital (IIRC in a recent event he mentioned having to go to surgery soon). Kongou is possibly the closest thing Team B has to a responsible adult. He looks scary, but is actually a pacifist and has a calm vibe about him. That said, he did use to be a wrestler. He's a chef now, though :) Ran is like. I wouldn't call him a problem child, but there's a reason why his tagline is "No.1 energetic brat", he's very energetic, and has quite the shark-toothed grin when feeling violent. Always down to fight pt.2. Then there's Lico - he used to work as a host and he's so full of himself. Also quite flirty with Saki. That said, surprisingly enough, it's often him (and Kongou) who ends up as the voice of reason. You know the situation is dire just by that.

Then you also have the current owner, Haseyama, and the only staff member who, because of that, gets called Unei (literally "management"). Haseyama gives me some. Weird vibes, but not in a bad way. He's trying to convert Starless into a host club, though. Unei is just a poor little meow meow, timid and overworked. Save him. Get him out of there. The two also formed their own teams for April Fools' and the songs were actually. so good. But still, someone save Unei.

If you ask me to describe the genres of the music, it's very... far from what you'd expect in an anime boy rhythm game. I'd call Team K's as maybe close to visual kei? Kind of rock-y. Their vocalists are Kei (Ray Fujita), Yoshino (Tomoki Saito/Academic BANANA) and Yakou (Matsumoto Akito/Shinku Horou). Then, Team W definitely gives me more rock, maybe even alternative rock vibes. They've got come cool guy stuff going on, the music goes hard. Their singer is Akira (Kobayashi Taro). Team P are the ones you'll like if you like usual idol stuff, their songs give off a more pop-hearty vibe, and I'm assuming that's bc a few of their members actually are former idols, in-game. Their singers are Sinju (Stungun), Maica (Kradness) and Rindou (Ajikko). Team C is the gender team, they're so aesthetic. I have no idea what their genre is, but, whatever it is, it slaps. Kinda gives me club by the beach on a summer night vibes, but specifically those "clubs" that are actually half in the open. Their singer is Zakuro (Shakemii). And Team B, my personal faves🥰, are a hip-hop/rap team. Their songs go so hard. Their MC is Heath (Takuya IDE).

Most of the songs are based on works of literature (because it's a show restaurant, right?), which is also really fun, and an especially good ego boost when you figure out what the song is based on purely through the references in the song itself (though if you play the game, the loading screen for the song will give you a summary). I'll link each Team's first-uploaded song and my personal fave, just for diversity's sake and to get a feel for them - I believe the first song is always important to hear. So Team K's first - During the demise (sung by Kei, one of the main themes alongside W's BLACKSTAR, based on Lohengrin), and my personal fave - The Final Problem (sung by Yoshino, based on Sherlock Holmes/The Final Problem). Team W's first - Breakin' it faster (based on Romeo and Juliet), my fave - Out in Out (not based around a text, but around the Battle of Thermopylae). P - 虹の彼方へ (sung by Maica, based on the Wizard of Oz), 一雫の秘密 (sung by Maica and Rindou, based on The Turn of the Screw). C - Purple Dawn (based on the Ode to Joy), 暁の願い (based on Tenshu Monogatari). B - 日蝕 (based on Macbeth), 駄犬 (not based on anything; a diss track/"We went crazy" track lol)

Now as for the game itself, first of all, in my humble opinion, it's one of the best mobile rhythm games out there. The whole game is vertical instead of horizontal, so even the rhythm part is like that, but it's really fun. There's three difficulties, normal, hard and advanced. Normal and hard are unlocked from the start for every song, but to get advanced you need to get a full-combo on hard mode. The beatmaps on advanced mode often make little shapes, like in the new year 2021 song the ending, when the singer says "happy new year", forms the number 2-0-2-1, or, in a different song, the word "mikadzuki" (crescent moon) forms a crescent-moon-like long note, or in yet another song, during the words "Team K", the long notes form a K. It's just really fun, it's not too difficult (though some songs... beware the lvl>30 songs), but it's fun. Most of the difficulty comes in speed changing, so it's important that you know the song well when playing on the highest difficulty. As with other mobile games, it's important to have a good roster. There are songs that limit what characters you can use, but the first roster (オススメ) will automatically choose your best cards for a song, and the second one (スタメン) chooses the original members of the song in their original line-up. I don't even use the other rosters as I mostly just play with the first one, the second one if a daily challenge requires it. Cards range from 1* to 5*, and the 10pull in a gacha gives you a guaranteed 4*, and the featured cards for an event are always 4*. While I haven't gotten many 5* in the gacha, I still have a lot, and I'll talk about that in the event section, trust me, you'll love it. Anyway, asides from the rhythm part (the Performance), you have "rehearsal" where you can choose a song, a team for the song and have them "rehearse" - this boosts intimacy (unlocks stories and badges), as well as levels that character's level for the song. The higher the level, the less misses you'll get during autoplay - which is good for event songs so you don't have to grind too much. Rehearsals also help you level your heroine level, which will fully replenish your torepo and chikepo, so it's also useful to spam rehearsals during events. Torepo is what you need for rehearsals and you get a bigger maximum with each level-up, while chikepo are always maximum 5 and you use them to do Performances. You can't play without them, but they replenish really fast (1 every 20 minutes). You can boost your final score by "betting" chips on any of your top3 characters at the end of a Performance, but I suggest keeping the chips for event challenges. (And also, the chips multiply the scores instead of adding a set amount, so best to bet on the 1st one) There's also heroine status, where you basically compete with others to be the most active player, each rank gives you better rewards. Imo, B and S are the best (SS is the best, but a bit;;;; difficult to get), as B gives you chips as rewards, and S gives you torepo replenishing items. SS gives you chikepo replenishers tho.

You also have daily challenges: every day you get two songs with three challenges each. You don't have to finish them all in one day, though, you actually have 25 days to complete them, but every day you get two more, so it's best to be up to date with them. The challenges are usually something like "play x times", "get x score" (or the harder "get x score with スタメン", "get x score with y member", or the easier "get x total score"), "get a combo of x" or "get less than x misses" or "get more than x perfects". For each challenge you get some items (which can also be the premium currency, Dia!), and a challenge point which you can exchange for skill-up items, 5* cards, level-up items, 4* or 5* guarantee gacha tickets.

Secondly the events, they come at you pretty quick (at least imo but then again i'm also juggling three other mobage with bsts, so i'm stretched a bit thin), so there's new content very frequently, and here's my fave part about this game: the event 5* are ridiculously easy to get. The current event card is a 4*, but last event was a 5* and let me tell you, I logged in, I played the event song like. Seven times, got the card. Of course, if you want to skill it up completely, you gotta work your ass off to get all the copies, but I'm saying, if your goal is to just get it... (plus you can still skill them up without the actual copy of the same card, as I said - you can get skill-up items in the challenge point shop, and now you can exchange puzzle pieces you get when exchanging 3* and above cards for a skill-up item). All events give you event points, but some also give flags. Events with only event points will have the first copy of the card relatively low, so it's best to play the event song with 2 chikepo at once, but if it's a flag event, the event card will be easier to get on the flag portion. Since playing on 2 chikepo only doubles event points, it's a bit more grindy, but still possible without spending Dia - though it is faster if you at least get and level some of the featured event 4* (or even the 3*) in the gacha as they boost the amount of points and flags you get. For flag events, it's also best to use the third roster (イベント特効). You don't even have to have too high level cards, the Team B onsen event was one of the first ones I was here for, when I barely knew how to play, and I still managed 2 copies of the Ran 5*. The event songs will also have challenges - similarly to daily challenges. They'll range from "play with a rehearsal level of x or above" to "get a total of x score" or "get an x score total", sometimes "bet x chips". With each challenge, you'll unlock a story part (and reading each event story part gives you premium currency). The event songs will later be played with the reminiscence tickets on the reminiscence tab of the performance screen - these tickets are easy to collect, and you can use them to replay songs, unlock story parts you haven't and get level-up items if you want to further level an event card. Also, during events, on the event screen you'll be able to access the eeru store (eeru being the non-premium currency), it has a lot of stuff, but imo always go for the Dia and chips, if they're available.

And I think that's about it from what I have to say about BSTS? All in all, it's really fun, the story and characters are gripping, and the songs slap sooo hard. I'm pretty sure I ascended when I first heard each Team B song. I definitely suggest playing it, or at least getting to know the story/characters and listening to the songs. Though it's only available in Japan </3 QooApp thankfully exists lmao

I really dig shows where certain folks outside the main characters end up finding out about the supernatural and just have to deal with that as part of life now.

Like, as fun as it can be to have the protagonists constantly having to hide and talk around mystical happenings, it's so refreshing and delightful to see Nancy Drew, where at first it's a select few "in the know" and then it's like, okay, well, oops, Carson knows now. And apparently McGinnis has known the whole time. And now Owen's in this. And Ryan. And we told John Sanders point blank but he doesn't believe us and it's not worth pushing it. And Connor is not pleased but he knows who to call to handle freaky stuff. And Tamura really ought to believe at this point but he's not going to. And Park is totally down with it. And so on, etc., whatever happens happens.

Why bother hiding it when many hands make blood rituals light work, right?

damn guess i gotta tell the world about my main boy gianni. it'll be under a cut bc its long as shit

okay so this right here

is gianni (technically gianni copia emeritus if we're going by full legal names here). we've made our own lore and i hope eventually you'll make a masterpost of it so if i write stuff later on i can include the link as a reference for anyone that might choose to read it bc honestly i think the lore that we've altered and made up is really interesting and i think people might enjoy reading it one day. anyway, onto the meat and potatoes of this.

so, with the lore that we've created, gianni is the twin brother of copia (named giorgio/gio in our lore bc honestly he needed a name and that name slaps) born to nihil and lucifer (i am 100% down to answer more questions on this bc this slaps also ik owen will def be down to answer questions about that little tidbit or it might be in the headcanon tag on their blog).

there's a bit of a branching path with him because i go back and forth between having them be raised together until they're both 10 or until they're both 5, but the constant is nihil having to send away one son to keep them safe from imperator (named cirice in our lore and will be called that for the duration of this post just to keep things streamlined). from 5/10 until his mid to late 30s, gianni worked his way up in the ranks of an abbey in italy that i think i made up. honestly, he was completely taken advantage of in that abbey, being worked to near death by the cardinals and siblings of sin (fun fact this man is a people pleaser to the max and also physically cannot take a single day off and has actually almost died from it). while literally being overworked by pure luck he managed to meet a special someone (you'll shit when you find out who it is) and starts a little sneaky relationship with them.

the person? temptesa, aka our own rain ghoul. (i'm sure owen's posted lore about it so go check it for more deets). they probably get a good year or two together and exchange rings before his beloved is sent away without his knowledge (to Linköping by pure luck where they're later reunited and i'll def expand on that if anyone wants to know more)

so he's eventually asked to return to the abbey as a cardinal (that we placed in Linköping just for simplicities sake and to have one cohesive area anytime the abbey's mentioned) and arrives back home after 25-30 years to one of 2 things

the previous papas already having been executed by cirice and prepared for the veneration of relics and everyone in the abbey absolutely depressed

during anti christmas :)

i haven't really taken the time to build the lore on everything that happens immediately after he's returned home, but he does continue his work as a cardinal and watching as his twin becomes papa and tours the world spreading the word of the church

UNTIL

he gets to play papa one time because his brother's way too sick to perform the ritual/show and he's the only one available who can fill the role. he literally crams learning all the songs in like 11 hours and is such a nervous wreck before that first show and he def barfs at least once before he goes on stage for the first time.

this man is a whole ass natural at being on that stage. talks to the crowd, puts his whole self into every song, and literally stays a few hours after that first show just to talk to anyone who stays after bc this man loves the fans, adores them tbh.

he finally gets his chance to be papa when gio wants to step down and focus on starting a family with his wife (who i am also 100% down to talk about later, not rn tho this is gianni time) and this man puts his entire being into being a good papa. he doesn't take a salary, pushes for the ghouls to be equal to him, defends the ghouls (and there's a ton of stuff i could talk about when it comes to him with the ghouls bc this man is lowkey a whore), and just pretty much revamps the church from the ground up and has the ghouls finally be equals to everyone else.

that's just a lil taste of gianni tbh bc there's so much more i could talk about but i gotta workshop some of it still

I love when people hc that Billy wouldnt consider Jason a threat, its a lot of fun to read that.

But also consider:

Billy who doesn't consider Jason, by himself, to be a *physical* threat. He knows he can take Jason in a fight. Hell, he's pretty sure Max is scrappy enough that she could take Jason in a fight.

But Billy is still scared of him. Billy is terrified of the smooth talking, privileged, religious asshole and the potential social threat he could be.

Jason isn't dangerous because he's unhinged and will fight whoever, that'd be manageable to Billy, Jason is dangerous because he is *really* good at turning the narrative in his favor and starting witch hunts.

And that... I think that'd be terrifying for queer-coded Billy Hargrove.

(intentional or otherwise, i think it was a really meaningful detail that they showed Robin immediately after Eddie's "hunt the freak?" line. when she was just talking about how dangerous it'd be if she asked the wrong girl out earlier in the season.)

In an AU where Hopper ends up taking in Billy too, El picks up Billy's habit of saying "I can't do [x] im gay."

only she doesn't understand what it means really or what context is appropriate to use it in or that Billy's mostly being sarcastic/joking when he says it (he can in fact do math, and he personally thinks his driving skills are just fine thank you very much).

And it eventually leads to a situation like that one scene in Modern Family, with Hopper telling El "You're not gay you're just confused!" way louder than he meant to in the public space they're in.

s3 au where the mindflayer gets into billy but just... for some reason it can't really control him.

like at first the mind flayer thinks things are working, but it actually turns out that the things it was trying to make billy do were actually just things billy decided to do anyway

and the mindflayer just thinks he needs more time or to try harder or whatever to break billy and take over but just... nothing is working. by the time the mindflayer decides fuck it "i'll find a more convenient pawn" it discovers to it's horror that it can't voluntarily leave billy either.

billy still gets the heat aversion and the super strength and healing, and he's just like 'huh, that's weird' and continues on with his life.

Billy and Steve start hanging out and Billy starts noticing that Steve doesn't know how to do a lot of basic stuff, and the stuff he does know how to do he does weird.

At first Billy dismisses these observations as being a product of Steve having grown up rich, like.. of course Steve doesn't know how to change the oil on his car, he can afford to take the thing in regularly and pay someone else to do it. But the more they spend time together the more Billy realizes that thats not quite right.

The Harrington's have a shiny fancy working dishwasher (Billy knows it works, he's seen Henderson use it). But Steve always washes dishes by hand.

And it's definitely not that Steve is just some weirdo who likes hand washing dishes, he clearly hates doing it, but he still never uses the dishwasher.

And going grocery shopping with Steve is an actual nightmare, Billy thought he hated shopping with Max (who somehow always convinces him to buy her shit she doesn't need), but Steve... Steve makes shopping with Max seem well worth the wasted money.

The way he meanders about the store, flitting back and forth between the aisles and constantly doubling back to get something else that was right next to something he grabbed twenty minutes ago is absolutely incomprehensible to Billy. A shopping trip that would take Billy twenty minutes, even with Max tagging along, takes Steve at least an hour.

Billy also pretty quickly learns that if anyone ever points out any of these oddities, Steve will react in one of two ways.

Either he'll try and brush it off and downplay the whole situation or he'll get extremely prickly and defensive about it.

Billy does not understand, but the puzzle of it all fascinates him.

It's not until one time when Steve's parents come back early from a business trip that it finally clicks.

Billy had been staying the night, eager for more time with Steve and time away from Neil. He was supposed to be long gone by the time Mr and Mrs Harrington got back, but apparently their plans had changed last minute.

Billy woke to an empty bed, and Steve's empty bedroom, and had made his way downstairs just in time to accidentally catch the tail end of Steve's father berating him for apparently doing the laundry incorrectly.

It was clear Steve's dad had already been talking for a while, and the part that Billy caught was too long by itself.

And in all that time and with all those words Mr Harrington had for his son it was clear that not one of them were any sort of instructions on how to correct the mistake, no hint of how to do it right next time.

When Steve finally emerged from his father's study, looking so resigned (at least until he noticed Billy then he looked embarrassed), it was clear to Billy that this was Mr Harringtons usual way of handling such matters.

And that was when Billy finally understood that the reason Steve didn't know how to do basic things, or did them in weird incomprehensible ways, was because no one had ever taught him. They'd just expected him to start doing these things and then gotten mad when he didn't manage to do them to unspecified standards.

Months later, when Billy and Steve have moved into their own shitty tiny little apartment downtown, Billy starts showing Steve how to do shit. It's hard, trying to toe the line between gentle instruction and patronizing, especially since they both have so little experience with gentle but eventually, despite the times it blows up in their faces and one of them stomps off somewhere to cool off, they get better at it.

And as it turns out, Steve can actually be pretty good at all sorts of stuff as long as someone bothers to teach him.

Thinking about Billy with food allergies/intolerances today.

Neil refuses to accommodate Billy's issues in any way. Susan makes whatever she makes for meals, maybe she knows about Billy's issues and is just forgetful about it, maybe she just doesn't care, maybe she doesn't even know about them in the first place. Whatever susans reasoning or justification the stuff that Billy shouldn't eat shows up in meals at the Hargrove-Mayfield house pretty regularly.

Billy isn't allowed to not finish his meals, that would be rude and wasteful. So he just does what he has to do and accepts that he'll suffer the consequences later.

He avoids meals at home whenever possible. But he also doesn't exactly have a lot of spending money to go out and get things he can eat (and lbr, depending on what specifically he's allergic to/intolerant of, it may be difficult or even impossible to find stuff he can eat that is cheap and doesn't require a kitchen to prep).

So he has a lot of times when he has to choose between not eating or going home and potentially having to eat stuff he isn't supposed to.

Steve at some point ends up making a meal for Billy and it includes the thing(s) Billy isn't supposed to eat bc he doesn't know. Billy doesn't tell him, just cleans his plate like he's expected to at home. He doesn't really care, it's what he's used to only better bc this was something that Steve made for him which in Billy's opinion makes it automatically better than anything Susan has ever made.

Only it's not like Billy can just leave after the meal is over, they still have plans to hang out for a while longer after that.

And Billy's good at hiding this sort of thing, Neil didn't like when Billy kept getting sent home from school because lunch kept making him sick. So Billy got good at hiding the reaction he has to this sort of thing. But Steve, Steve notices anyway.

And at first Steve is freaking out bc he thinks he gave Billy food poisoning, but then (because he can't stand Steve looking all anxious and upset with himself) Billy says that it's fine he's just not supposed to eat [xyz].

At which point Steve asks some variety of "then why did you eat it?/why didn't you tell me?"

And Billy just shrugs and tries to act like it's no big deal and mentions that he eats it all the time it's not like it's going to kill him.

Nothing gets resolved completely that night, but Steve makes Billy write him a list of all the things he shouldn't eat and a list of all the things he doesn't like to eat and Steve studies that list.

He starts making Billy food he can actually enjoy whenever he comes over, and when he notices that Billy either doesn't have lunch or has a lunch that has stuff on the lists he starts making him lunches too.

Billy can't even remember the last time he felt so well fed and taken care of, and he experiences a significant and overall improvement to his health. His new better diet even clears up issues he didn't even realize we're because of the food thing.

Why is Bare: A Pop Opera not as super popular as Dear Evan Hansen or Be More Chill? The fandom loves LGBT rep (which Bare has) and the songs are amazing and I think B:APO is actually superior to both of those. Thoughts? I mean the musical fandom tends to try to find LGBT characters even when they aren't stated, so why do you think Bare is not as popular?

this is a very interesting question and I am hopefully going to do it justice by analyzing Fandom, Musical Writing, and Many Other Things I’m Super Passionate About

the short: many factors and a lot of luck

the unnecessarily long:

(opening disclaimer: I love dear evan hansen and be more chill, and I’m not upset that they’re popular musicals because I feel that they’re popular for a reason. anything that sounds like an insult in the following response isn’t such because I truly enjoy both of those musicals a lot)

(another disclaimer: spoilers for bare, DEH, and BMC, also mentions of homophobia)

on paper, bare seems like the exact sort of musical that would be popular. bare the musical (cursed as it is) has a cast of super popular actors like Barrett Wilbert Weed, Gerard Canonico, Taylor Trensch, Alice Lee, Alex Wyse, a high quality bootleg exists of the 2013 LA cast, it’s got LGBT+ rep, complex women characters… and yet it’s got a tiny fan base. Why?

first let’s look at why dear evan hansen and be more chill are popular. I’m more well versed in bmc, so let’s look at its history (disclaimer: I’m estimating dates but this is roughly the timeline)

the original bmc run was in 2015 I believe. they recorded a soundtrack, everything was fine, and they closed. in 2017, people began discovering the soundtrack in hoards. specifically, they were discovering one song: Michael in the bathroom. that’s even how I learned about the show- I heard that song and had to look up the rest of the soundtrack. and in February of 2019, they’ll start previews on broadway because the fandom was revived

why this song? I think a ton of fame comes from talent, yes, but also from luck. I think bmc was lucky that Michael in the bathroom, a great song, was discovered as the great song that it is. I also think the fame came because that song is super relatable. as someone with pretty bad anxiety, that song really touched me because I’ve definitely spent parties hiding in the bathroom and avoiding everyone and wishing I was dead because I’m so overwhelmed with anxiety. it’s relatable, so people flocked to it.

this made me pause to think “what is bare’s hook song” my first thought was a quiet night at home if we want a song in the same vein as MITB, but that song isn’t as hype as MITB (and fandoms don’t care about fem characters as much as it cares about masc characters). my next thought was are you there because I think it’s a bop and a relatable “pls someone help” kind of song, but I don’t know which song everyone could relate to as much as everyone could relate to MITB

and speaking of relatable content- that’s where the DEH connection comes in. dear evan hansen is similarly relatable, although it takes that to an extreme given what Evan does as a result of his anxiety. Michael and Evan are relatable characters, even if you don’t condone everything they do (and if you condone everything Evan does, we have much to talk about)

but doesn’t bare have relatable characters?? absolutely !! there’s Peter, a closeted gay kid who wants to come out, and Jason, someone who acts tough but is secretly very insecure, and Nadia, with her body image issues, and Ivy, who people won’t take seriously because they’ve decided they already know her, and so many other complex characters. so why are they left behind?

let’s look at bare’s history:

bare was originally written in the 90s (I want to say 1999, but I could be wrong) the performance most people consider the quintessential bare performance was in 2004 with Michael Arden, John Hill, Jenna Leigh Green, etc.

if you compare this to DEH and BMC, the first issue is clear. DEH was hugely popular around 2016. BMC began to grow in popularity in 2017. these are very, very new shows. 20 years doesn’t sound like a lot, but in our current age where time seems to pass so quickly which each new fad, bare seems like an older musical, and a lot of people aren’t the biggest fan of older musicals. and they don’t have to be !! but it’s a personal preference of some people that could affect how they view bare as a potential musical to be a fan of

in terms of the music of bare, it’s definitely catchy, but it’s not like a pop song. (again, no shade at DEH and BMC because those aren’t jukebox musicals or anything). bare is simply not as easy to listen to as DEH and BMC are in my opinion (and it’s not the most complicated thing ever either, but holy cow its lyrics are smart and I have to throw that in here)

now let’s look at reasons why people may not want to watch bare. while it is great that it has canon gay characters, compelling women characters, and is very cleverly written it also has issues that can be turn-offs to people. this includes:

-bury your gays

-gay-guy-cheats-on-boyfriend-with-girl trope

-gay-guy-gets-outed trope

-and potentially other homophobic tropes

I’m not shaming bare for perpetuating these tropes because it was written 20 years ago, and lgbt+ people are allowed to enjoy media in spite of its perpetuation of negative tropes, but for some people these things are enough to turn them away. and I don’t blame them! I watched bare the musical before I watched bare a pop opera, and when Jason I died I closed out of YouTube without finishing the show because I was so Sick of bury your gays.

I am aware that there are reasons Jason died at the end of bare (they’re making a statement about how homophobia kills, particularly how homophobic religious people can have an awful affect on young religious gay people), but there comes a time when “reasons for a gay character to die” is just too much. sometimes, you just want the gay character to live, and I completely respect that notion because I felt the exact same way when I watched bare the musical. I remember when I first watched bare the musical I wrote a thread about how as a Romeo and Juliet adaptation, bare follows some things closely (like death at the end) while avoiding other extremes (Romeo running off to another country) and I thus felt the death was unnecessary. if someone else feels similarly about being sick of gay characters dying, they have every right to not want to watch bare

that’s enough on why someone might not want to watch bare. let’s get back to bare vs DEH and BMC

I also think a big aspect of fandoms is shipping. the fetishization of MLM (and consequently ignoring fem characters completely, along with focusing solely on white men for their shipping and ignoring men of color) is a huge problem in fandoms that I could talk about forever, but for the sake of this response, I’ll keep it a bit shorter

DEH and BMC profit heavily off of shipping in terms of gaining popularity. people love Evan x Connor (and other ships but that’s the main one I see), and people love Jeremy x Michael (and others). so why then do people not care about bare, a show with a canon relationship between 2 basic white men, which is their ultimate goal?

I think people like the idea of these mlm ships more than canon content. if there’s canon, it’s harder for them to make a variety of ships because it feels like everything else has to rotate around the canon without touching it (which is where the bare fandom gets Matt x Lucas because they’re the closest they have to 2 basic men- I can write my criticism of them another time though)

I’ve also seen posts saying that things with canon lgbt+ characters sometimes have smaller fandoms because there is no need for lgbt+ theorizing- it’s right there, and if you want lgbt+ content, watch the thing. I don’t necessarily agree with this for myself (I’ll reblog every pilgrim’s hands gifset I see) but I can definitely see how other people might think this way

failing to hype up stuff with lgbt+ characters can have a negative impact. BMC is the prime example of how a show can be revived by its passionate fan base. if people aren’t talking about bare, it’s not going to spread like other shows do

this is kind of all over the place but anyway- I want to talk about characters more. one thing DEH and BMC have are great, complex characters that are very easy to boil down to a fandom’s favorite stereotypes. I am absolutely not saying DEH and BMC have simple characters because I think all of them have layers; however, fandoms do love to go “this is precious cinnamon roll who can do no wrong and this is evil awful terrible irredeemable person” and it’s a bit difficult to do that with bare.

you can say Peter is your perfect son, but he does try to force Jason out before he’s ready. you can say Ivy is the evil seductress trying to tear apart your gay babies, but I will physically fight you. there aren’t any black-and-white good or bad bare characters (except Father Flynn- hate him), which doesn’t fit in line with the way fandoms function. sweeping generalizations about the current state of society based on the internet are exhausting and bad, but we do live in an age where everything must either be perfect or evil, and you can’t do that with bare. no one “did nothing wrong uwu” and that’s what fandoms Want

(note: they will excuse wrong actions, such as everything wrong Connor Murphy has ever done, if the character is played by a mildly attractive guy they want to ship with another mildly attractive guy)

another point that I don’t have fully fleshed out thoughts on enough to devote too much time to is the integration of parents into the shows. in both DEH and BMC, the parents get redemption arcs. in bare, Claire does say she love Peter at the end, but she’s much less of a sympathetic character than Mr. Heere or Heidi (that’s her name right- Evan’s mom) or the Murphys. when I was younger, I wasn’t allowed to watch anything that painted parents, or adults in general, in a negative light, but maybe that’s not a universal experience

this is getting way too long and it probably has more thought put into it than what was necessary, so I’ll try to close this quickly

I think, first off, that DEH and BMC completely deserve the hype that they have received. they’ve got compelling stories, interesting characters, and fantastic soundtracks. I also think that luck factors heavily into them getting what they deserve. there are plenty of great shows, like bare and the boy who danced on air and spies are forever and probably more that I’m not thinking of, that have great music and characters and story that, out of sheer chance, don’t get the chance they should have been given. there is no bulleted list someone can follow and at the end they’ll be on broadway with an armful of tonys; is the luck of the draw, and bare has not been afforded that chance

I’ll end with some reasons why anyone who happened to read this but might not be a bare fan should listen to or watch bare:

- it is an amazingly clever show; every time I watch it or listen to it, I realize another moment of foreshadowing or a line I originally brushed off was actually very significant or there’s another recurring motif/theme in the music

- it’s full of bops (go listen to you and I or are you there or portrait of a girl)

- canon gay characters in a canon gay relationship

- 3 dimensional fem characters that actively criticize stereotypes

- it’s about a religious gay boy who grapples with his religion and his sexuality and how those two things can coexist

- it is Very Very Good

in conclusion: bare is very good and deserves attention xx

I just want to tell you that I love you so much because we think the same in particular about b/t. I really hoped we'd have the same scenes a/e had, I wasn't prepared for this much. I mean I get it's important for buck, but why we have to see every second of this awful relationship? The ana/eddie breakup was wonderful and we felt all eddie's pain, but we didn't see episodes on episodes full of their scenes. Let's hope in 5x12 it'd be over

I'm guessing this is about my tags on this post and yes I absolutely agree. I was also not prepared for the amount of screen time we were going to have to suffer through with bt. I was really trying to bite my tongue in season 4 about my feelings on her character and did my best to get behind their friendship because m/f friendships aren't seen as much as they should be, and it's not like she was around much.

But once 4x14 made it clear they were going the relationship route I was done. Buck wanting anything to do with her after 2x06 when he found out the truth that she fought to air that stuff about Bobby never made any sense for me, and made even LESS sense after all the awful thing she said to him earlier in the season. "Intimidated by strong women?" Ma'am, where?! When?! 🙄 but also "needy"? Right after the audience learned about Buck's childhood trauma? They haven't been subtle about her not sticking around or trying to get the audience to like her, so I'm just curious as to why we have had to see so much of her.

Like, we're not supposed to like her, she's not sticking around, so what the hell was Ghost Stories? In a year no one will care about an entire episode dedicated to a case that has nothing to do with, and almost entirely doesn't involve, the main cast or tie in with them and another case (like Athena's missing persons case and Sue's hit-and-run being the same thing). But a year later everyone would have still wanted to watch firefam shenanigans and the 5 cut scenes of the Ghost Roommate Call.

Same with Past Is Prologue, in a year when she's gone forever no one will care about her "backstory", and even that was still told and framed entirely from Buck's POV because this story isn't about her.

The show has made it abundantly clear, from the writing, directing, acting choices, framing, even the costumes and music, that bt are wrong for each other, but it's so hard to watch and we've had to suffer through so much of it! Buck is clearly miserable all the time, and when he's not actively looking miserable, he's clearly putting up a front. He hasn't been himself around her like, ever, and the only time he tried to open up, he got told that not everything is about him. I do think she was trying there, and wasn't actively being malicious or anything but she has canonically never once given a single fuck about anyone's emotional state but her own and how she's being affected by things so a) she doesn't know how to help Buck because b) she doesn't really know him at all and c) it's still more about her restoring what she thinks is the "balance" in their relationship where Buck goes back to being the version of himself she recognizes and wants to be with.

She's literally trying to force Buck out of the trap he's in, instead of climbing in with him like Bobby told Buck he needed to do with Abby in season 1 (and what Buck immediately applied to his relationships with Eddie and Maddie in season 2), which is...interesting to say the least. I wasn't really on board with the "Buck is Taylor's Abby" theory because Buck is still putting all the emotional labor into this relationship and doing all the supporting and heavy lifting just like he was with Abby, but the parallels just keep popping up and after 5x09 it's pretty clear that she's in a different place than he is in the relationship. Which, it isn't hard to see why since she's getting everything she wants/needs out of the relationship while not noticing that Buck isn't getting anything he truly wants/needs. Which is a compelling story for Buck's arc, and is going to provide growth for him! Yay! But also, as you said, they absolutely got the same kind of point across with Eddie and his relationship (that breakup was riveting to watch), but they managed it in sooooo much less screen time!

Let's just hope that big wrench arrives sooner rather than later in 5b because I can't take much more of Buck looking so lost and alone, and I absolutely cannot take ANY more of her being on my screen and taking time away from characters I actually care about and want to see. And also poor Oliver deserves a break from having to play Buck being lonely and miserable and not getting to work as much with such great scene partners like JLH and Kenneth Choi, and having less time with Ryan, Aisha, Peter, and Angela. I just want the firefam back together! I have a feeling though that 5b is going to deliver some great stuff.

Sorry this got long and ranty. I just have a lot of feelings, and I'm out of fucks to give 🤷🏻‍♀️ Thanks for giving me a moment to vent, nonnie! Come back any time!

i don't really like describing environments unless i think it's A Metaphor which means that most of the time my works take place in the bare abstract of places to someone who doesn't share the same brain as me. also: kisses. every time i write them i feel like im being very cliché and therefore try my best to write them as little as possible

18. what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in fic?

i don't really do it unless it's a specific term of endearment (ex. alya calling marinette mignonette which is a personal favorite of mine/the obligatory lovesquare chaton/ adrinette calling each other ma moité in bt) or a little signifier to show a character is speaking a language other than the main language of the fic (eiji saying moshi moshi in hes&osm) because i don't know other languages and therefore am terrified of sounding stupid in another language. also when fics write in prolonged periods of language-other-than-english for seemingly no reason it really breaks my immersion so i try not to do that

19. what was the first fandom you wrote for?

percy jackson. unless you count the harry potter au i wrote when i was 7

20. what’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

I'll be talking about my process for this art of Wen Qing.

Fair warning that this is going to be a bit of a mess because my process is all over the place, but I'll try my best to explain without it being too confusing.

Planning

Since this was a request, I started by reading the prompt, which asked for Wen Qing and roses. Roses are my one of my favorite flowers so I claimed the prompt and started thinking about what I was going to do with it.

I knew I wanted to do a portrait with roses surrounding Wen Qing, but I still wasn't sure about what the composition was going to be, so I started looking for references to see what would work and to get some ideas.

I started looking for photos of Meng Ziyi that I liked and at first I really liked this one.

She looks great, but when I tried sketching it I couldn't really get the angle of the face right, so I tried to look for a different picture that was within my skill level. Luckily, I remembered seeing a very pretty pucture the day before so I looked for it and this one was the one I ended up going with.

After that, I downloaded some free to use pictures of roses. I really liked the contrast and the color scheme in the pictures so I though I could apply it to the painting itself and so I began getting a clearer idea of what I wanted to do.

Creation

I opened my art program (IbisPaint X) and did a sketch of what I wanted using my references. My sketches are always super messy and I can't be bothered to do lineart, so I usually just clean them up a little bit and work over them directly. I should actually learn how to do proper lineart at some point, but today is not that day 😂

Then, I chose my base colors and filled in the drawing to get an idea of where I was going with the piece. I really likeed how it looked like this so I sent it to my friends for validation. They were extremely lovely to me as always so I was excited to continue working on it 💜

Before rendering, I knew I wanted my light source to be on the right and I wanted the shadows to be quite dark, almost black, but that's the extent of what I knew before going into it.

And then I started actually painting! Unfortunately tumblr won't let me post the process video into this post so I'm going to upload it on twitter. You can see it here! I don't really know how to describe how I paint other than there's a lot of going back and forth and over stuff that I already thought was finished. The whole thing took around 12 hours, which is a bit longer than I usually spend on a portrait but I think it was worth it!

For the main piece I only used three brushes. I did add a bit of glow and sparkles with different brushes on a separate program, but I mostly used these three:

Note that these are at full opacity but I usually work a very low opacity because my stylus doesn't have pressure sensitivity (bc my equipment sucks) and that's the only way I have to blend my colors without the blending tool, which I don't really like because it takes away the texture.

I also had a bit of trouble with the colors in this one because it's not what I usually do, but after multiple adjustments and with help from the references, I ended up with something I really liked!

After the piece was done, I added some of my usual sparkles and a bit of glow and then saved it to my gallery. Then, I opened my editing software and played with the contrast, saturation, brightness and some filters. I was left with three versions of the art that I liked: the one I eventually went with and these two (I still really like the first one tbh).

I sent it to my friends so that they could help me pick which one looked better and after a long period of very serious deliberation (read: we all panicked bc we're gay and can't choose) we ended up going with the one that ended up being posted to the mdzs net!

I then sent it to the net for posting and waited (im)patiently for it to go up! ❤

And that's it! I hope someone can get something put of the mess that is my process or that it was at least enjoyable!!!!!

My Very Valid Explanation for All of the Teen Wolf Plot Holes

Here's a thought. Let’s go ahead and accept that TW is told from Scott's perspective. He’s the main character and the narrator. The plot revolves around him (often to the exclusion of other burning questions).

(Stop here if you don’t want to read about Scott being an unreliable narrator.)

That would mean that every time the audience is hearing about something that happened when Scott wasn't there, he knows about it because someone told him after the fact. That means the entire show is just Scott's retelling of whatever version of events he's heard about.

So using this Very Scientific Theory, all of the plot holes are places where either Scott didn’t care about an event, or times that people were straight-up lying to Scott about what happened.

Why did Jackson disappear at the end of season two? Why did no one go looking for Boyd and Erica? Where did Isaac disappear to when Chris came back without him? Cora? Danny?

You know who got an actual exit? Allison. The one Scott actually cared about.

This could also explain some of the really out of character stuff. Like, Peter’s drama-queen killing of Jennifer that doesn’t seem to change anything. In Scott’s world, Jennifer disappears, and obviously Peter murdered her because he wants to be Alpha again. And the big bad villain would definitely scream "I'm the Alpha!" after his horrible murder was completed.

Scott the Unreliable Narrator also explains all of the weird plot holes. Like Derek deciding to run off with Braeden. Peter teaming up with Kate for no apparent reason. Peter’s bizarre hole-filled story about Paige and Derek. The lack of discernible ages for half the cast or any kind of timeline since the fire. Malia’s entire existence.

It could also be why Stiles "doesn't have magic." despite some strong evidence that he was headed that way. Because by the time Stiles would have been able to use it (probably post-Nogitsune), his relationship with Scott was fractured enough that no one told Scott about it.

It would explain so many things if half the plot of TW was just Stiles going "no, buddy, you'll be happier if you don't know that Peter and I fucked like bunnies in the train station."

I notice how I shifted from past tense in my older fics to present tense in the more recent ones, but other than that my opening lines are not as predictable as I assumed they’d be. I do have quite a few that I start with dialogue tho and I am aware that I like to do that. Comparatively, it’s still not as striking in my fan fiction, considering how all of my original stories start with a dialogue, I think XD

It’s Too Cold For Angels To Fly

The sky has been full of slowly falling snowflakes since around four in the morning.

Dean knows this, because he’s watched the first one fall from where he sat down on the grass earlier that night, and decided he’d finally go back inside once he’s seen the last one. It shouldn’t be cold enough to sustain more than a few minutes of snowfall, he reasoned, not quite yet at least, and the last drop of snow seemed like just as good a reason to get up as any other. Dean doubted he’d manage to leave his spot if he didn’t set himself a deadline.

He may have been right about that, considering how he hasn’t moved a centimeter since settling down right there, but he starts to suspect he may have been wrong about his assessment of the temperature. Distantly, he’s aware of the morning dew soaking through the fabric of his jeans from below, and the snowflakes that land on him doing the same from above, but that’s all there is to it. He doesn’t feel the cold sinking into his bones like he thinks he should, and he doesn’t even feel the icy touch of the snow on his exposed arms and nose. Vaguely, it registers that he should be concerned about that. He should at least be worried about catching a cold. Cause that’s a thing he gets now. Colds.

But not cold apparently, no.

There’s a bottle of whiskey on the kitchen table from the night before. Was there still a sip or two inside when he left it? Doesn’t matter, it’s not enough to warrant moving from his spot. What would it achieve? He already feels numb. The alcohol would merely give him an explanation as to why.

That’s a lie. Dean knows the reason why he’s numb. Even if he wouldn’t admit that to Sam. Even if Sam already knows.

He leans back to lie down, his arms spread out, moisture starting to spread through his t-shirt as soon as his back touches down on the snow-covered grass. He can’t bring himself to care about that either. Instead, he directs his gaze at the snow, poking directly into his eyes from this angle, and the clouds it continues to fall from despite what he thought to be true earlier.

The angels are crying, his mind supplies an old saying that he’s sure he hasn’t heard in years. What a bunch of bull. Angels don’t sit on clouds. And they certainly don’t cry.

Well… A painful sting flashes through Dean’s chest. He has to close his eyes.

So. He’s not totally numb after all. It’s only a small comfort, really, and it makes him want to get the nearly empty whiskey bottle after all.

It’s a bad idea, he knows that. He watches the sun slowly peek up above the horizon, knowing Sam is going to wake up sometime around now. Dean would rather not risk running into him in the process. Sam won’t comment, but he’ll lift his eyebrows and… Dean will feel bad all on his own. Not like it’d keep him from doing it. But. He’d prefer not to add that one to the things he pretends he’s not feeling.

He isn’t even sure he’s pretending anymore. Maybe he really is this numb now.

“You said I’m full of love!”, he yells at the sky, tone full of accusation, “Is this what a man capable of feeling love looks like?”

This man isn’t capable to feel anything anymore, he thinks bitterly.

“But you were right about one thing”, he adds quietly, resigned, “I’m not driven by anger either. I’m no longer driven by anything at all.” His eyes contort to follow a snowflake descending in a trajectory towards his nose, before he closes his eyes again, finally causing them to relax. “I’m empty.” He extends his arms further and runs them through the thin blanket of snow that’s formed on the grass by now, letting the lack of sensation wash over him. He sighs, the sound indicating defeat. “I’ve always been empty.”

Being in a band that’s three fourth ghosts can be pretty fun, Julie has to admit.

Sure, it’s taken all of them a while to get used to everything that comes along with it, especially her, but Julie thinks that they’re doing a pretty great job by now.

And yeah, there’s the whole object impermanence thing they still struggle with, but for the most part, once you get used to having them around (constantly, as Julie sometimes mourns, but always in good humor), it becomes surprisingly easy to forget that her bandmates are not, in fact, human.

Julie feels like, as the token human member of the band, she’s the only one slipping up on that account. Considering Flynn has been the first and so far only person to point it out to her, it’s safe to assume that the boys haven’t even noticed. For the sake of all of their sanity, she promises Flynn to work on it, but, even though Julie has always preferred music to maths, she still knows that the odds of her succeeding converge to zero.

In Julie’s defense: When she’s lounging on the couch in the music room, essentially mirroring Reggie’s position next to her, both of them listening to what Luke and Alex are working on while Reggie browses through a magazine and Julie scrolls through her Instagram feed, it’s easy to forget that they’re not the same. It’s very easy to get fooled by the mundanity they fell into.

Once Julie registers what just happened, she doesn’t even remember what Reggie said, only that it was funny, and that she had offered him a high five in response, as well as the tingling sensation going through her arm when he’d tried to reciprocate her gesture. The two of them keep staring at their hands and the point in the air where they failed to connect, wondering where their high five went wrong.

“Well, that was unexpected,” Reggie says drily and Julie bursts into laughter.

It’s not that funny, but Reggie joins in after a beat and they don’t stop laughing until long after Alex and Luke stopped playing and share a worried look over the state of their friends.

When she’s thinking about it later, the failed high five serves as a calming reminder that Julie’s not alone in this.

It also helps that it keeps happening.

The day is windy and cold, clouds slowly darkening overhead and making Julie believe it’ll probably start raining soon.

All in all, not the best weather conditions. For a human, that is. Reggie next to her doesn’t seem bothered in the least.

Which is good, Julie thinks to herself, as he may have decided against keeping her company otherwise, quickly poofing back into the warmth of the studio, leaving her cold and alone, instead of just cold.

“What’s wrong?” Reggie asks then, causing her to subconsciously wrap her thin cardigan more tightly around her shoulders.

“Oh you’re cold,” he realizes, stripping off his leather jacket, “you can have my jacket if you want.”

Julie furrows her brows as he proceeds to cautiously drape it over her shoulders, only for it to softly float down towards the ground, as if Julie was made of air. Well, no. It’s the jacket that’s made of air.

“That was unexpected,” Julie quips, lacing her words with teasing irony, startling a laugh out of Reggie.

Picking his jacket off the ground, he crosses his arm defensively.

“How was I supposed to know that my jacket is a ghost too?”

This time, it is kind of funny.

Her dad only lifts an eyebrow in question when he comes to retrieve her, soaked through but giddy with laughter. Reggie responds with a smug smile, for once both of them aware that Ray won’t be able to see it.

Other times, it isn’t quite as funny.

Like the time when they’re backstage at one of the bigger venues (those that Julie is afraid to ask how Flynn got them to play at), where there’s a lot of people, but the corridors are still empty.

Julie’s been making music her whole life, been backstage more times than she can count, but the bigger venues never stopped being a little terrifying.

The boys are poofing in and out of rooms and corridors, their curiosity knowing no bounds, their movements not limited by having to be granted access to pass. It’s fun hearing what they discover, small and big practice rooms, signed posters on the walls, rare instruments collecting dust under protective coverings. She wishes she could see it herself.

But mostly, she wishes that Flynn were walking with her to keep her company in these dimly lit corridors with the sickly artificial lights while the boys disappeared in discovery. Still, she wasn’t about to ask them not to. She wants that info of what’s hiding behind the closed doors just as much as them. She can handle some weirdly lit concert hall hallways on her own.

But then Reggie poofs back in next to her with the words, “Alex thinks we should take turns staying with you because you seem uncomfortable.” and Julie exhales.

“The hallways are a little creepy,” she admits, shrugging.

Reggie nods. “Don’t be scared. I’m right here,” he says, and Julie has to admit that she feels better having someone by her side.

Then he adds: “I’m gonna protect you.”

Julie says nothing, just clears her throat, careful not to make him self-conscious.

“I did it again, didn’t I?”

“Yeah.” She smiles at him. “For what it’s worth, I do feel safer with you here. Even if you can’t protect me.”

They stay quiet for a while, just walking past the doors that lead to the other practice and storage rooms, listening to the echo of their steps on the linoleum floor.

“It’s weird, isn’t it?” Reggie asks, and Julie gets the feeling that he’s been stewing on that for a while.

“The ghost thing?” she says, “Uh, yeah.”

“That too.” He shrugs. “But I don’t really mind it. Of all the supernatural beings that could exist and that we could be, ghosts are kinda chill.” There’s a small smile playing around his lips now. Julie nods along.

“We’re still together, and we met you, so that’s cool. We adapted quickly, and so have you, but…”

She turns her head to a surprisingly quiet Reggie, a contemplative look on his face.

“Sometimes you still slip up and forget what it means to be a ghost?” Julie prompts, searching. Finally, she sighs. “Me too.”

Reggie sways in her direction. Julie draws her eyebrows together, then laughs.

“Was that supposed to be a shoulder bump?”

Reggie covers his face with his hands a little too forcefully for it not to have hurt. If ghosts feel that kind of pain.

“Yes, it was.” He sighs exasperatedly. “Why does that happen to us?”

“I think,” Julie says, “that it happens to remind us that you still have unfinished business you have to get to.” More quietly, “And to remind me that I won’t be able to keep you forever.”

“That’s sad,” Reggie says.

Julie shrugs noncommittally. “It’s life, I guess.”

“And death, in our case,” Reggie adds.

That puts a reluctant smile on Julie’s face. “And death, in your case.”

“Do you think that if we just never do our unfinished business, the four of us could stay together?”

“That would be nice.” Julie sways towards Reggie, imitating his earlier shoulder bump.

Reggie answers with a grin.

That’s when a tingling sensation through her whole body causes Julie to stumble. Once she’s caught herself, she looks towards Reggie, who fell a few steps back, now half-obscured by the body he ran into. She recognizes the pink sweater.

“We didn’t aim well,” Alex apologizes.

Julie concludes that she must have walked through Luke then, turning in the direction she expects him to be in.

“You okay?” She finds herself looking up to worry etched onto his face and a hand outstretched to steady her.

A hand outstretched to steady her.

Her gaze flits to Reggie, only to see that his eyes have caught it too. He lifts his eyes to meet hers and god, does she wish they had a better reason to burst into laughter.

Dear Ghosts,

Julie is surprised to find out her brother has been writing letters to her ghost friends.

This was written as part of the @jatp-foundfamily-week gift exchange for @silent-silver-slip. I hope you like it and that it is fluffy enough 😊

Julie feels a little dumbstruck when she finds the first letter. It lies abandoned on the coffee table in front of the TV, a pen strewn carelessly atop of it, as if whoever had written it was in a rush to get somewhere else. The lettering is easily discernible as Carlos’ handwriting and as Julie doesn’t plan to snoop, she doesn’t mean to read anything written on that piece of paper. And she wouldn’t have, had the “Dear ghosts,” at the top of the page not caught her eye.

“Huh.” Julie picks up the letter, focusing on these first two words she’s already read, so as not to invade her brother’s privacy. She’s curious though, and it seems very tempting to just read whatever her brother addressed to her friends.

“None of my business,” she decides finally, putting it back down again and sliding it beneath the pen. “He’s allowed to have his own secrets.”

As she walks away, she can’t help but mutter: “I thought he still believed our house to be creepy haunted, not I-can-send-them-letters haunted.”

While confused about it at first, the letter doesn’t take up all that much of her brain space. She’s got a lot of other things to worry about: school, band rehearsals, friends, guys who want to date her, … A random letter that Carlos wrote to the ghosts he thinks are haunting that house does not take priority over those. Plus, it’s not even the weirdest thing Carlos has done when it comes to ghosts. He’ll move on to something else soon enough. She even starts to forget about it.

That is, until she takes a break during a band rehearsal. She lowers herself on the couch while sipping on her water when her eye catches on a similarly colored sheet of paper with her brother’s handwriting. The headline reads “Dear Ghosts”.

“What’s that?” she asks. Julie doesn’t think it still counts as snooping in her brother’s affairs if the ghosts that the letter is addressed to tell her about it themselves.

“Oh,” Reggie leans over her to see what she’s looking at, “your brother leaves them around for us sometimes.”

Julie gapes. “He’s sent multiple?”

“Yeah.”

“We’ve been working on sending one back, but there are too many steps involved,” Luke says, “we have to get the paper from somewhere, then the pen, and then write. That is, if we can agree on a text.”

Alex grimaces. “We managed to send him a smiley face on a post-it note though.”

“That… sounds a little creepy.”

“Yeah, he was a little spooked.”

Julie pinches the bridge of her nose. She knows that she will regret what she’s about to say.

“Do you want my help with answering his letter?” She stops. “So you don’t have to send him any more creepy post-it smileys.”

It doesn’t take long for her to be covered in the weight of three ghost hugs. She still doesn’t quite get how the rules work for when she can touch them and when she can’t, but she does appreciate the universe letting them hug her at this moment. “You’re the best,” one of them mumbles into her hair.

Their rehearsal quickly forgotten, they spend the rest of the afternoon lounging on the couches and dictating a text in the boys’ case, writing it down on paper in Julie’s.

Finally, Julie softly places the sheet of paper on the table in front of them. They look at it in silence.

“Won’t Carlos know it was you who wrote it?”

“Hm, yeah,” Julie tilts her head in thought.

“Maybe we could sign?” Luke suggests.

Alex nods. “We already have the pen and the paper right here, we should be able to sign our names.”

“Okay!” Reggie leans over to grab the pen, “then let’s do this!”

Julie watches them take turns, struggling but managing to write it down at last. Alex even puts a “P.S.: We can’t write very well, so Julie wrote this down for us.” below their signatures.

He sends the other boys a self-satisfied smirk.

“Whoa, you’re becoming good at this,” Reggie remarks.

“I’ve been training with Willie.”

Luke nods in approval.

“So where do I put it?” Julie asks finally. “So he will find it and know it’s from you guys?”

“You can just give it to him,” Luke says, “he’ll know that you know about the letter anyway once he’s read it.”

Julie looks to the other two, but both of them nod.

“Okay.” She gets up. “You coming with me?”

The three of them shuffle after her as they follow her outside and then back into the house.

They find Carlos in his room, the door closed. Julie knocks, gripping the letter tight.

“What’s up?” he asks when he opens the door to see his sister in front of it.

“I have a letter for you,” Julie says cheerfully.

“A letter?” Carlos furrows his brows in a way that makes Julie believe he’ll call her weird.

She rolls her eyes. “Just take it.” She shoves the letter in his hand. When he looks down at it, his eyes widen. He takes it and closes the door in her face.

“You’re welcome!” she yells through the door but retreats to her own room.

Out of the corner of her eye, she sees her friends walk through Carlos’ door to follow him into his room. She knows they’ll come back to her once Carlos finishes reading.

And soon enough, she hears the tell-tale sound of three ghosts poofing into her room.

“He started writing his reply,” they say, all smiles. She thinks it went well. Carlos’ satisfied smile at the dinner table confirms it. As do the letters she continues seeing around, as well as the replies she helps write down until her friends are confident enough that they can manage writing a whole text by themselves.

"Can we talk about the BNHA OC Comeback timeline? I've been dying to talk about my theories for the BNHA OC Comeback timeline all day!"

-Me to anyone willing to listen.

Here are the ramblings of me, someone who has no restraint when it comes to coming up with crazy theories about their interests, rambling about their theories on how the BNHA OC Comeback timeline could work.

Note: this is all speculation, and if the people in charge of the AU deem it to not be canon it is not. This was just something I did for fun because I wanted to do some writing. That is why I said could happen and not should happen, because this is all just fun speculation, and none of the other fandoms I am a part of have been able to scratch that itch for me lately.

Also, I will be talking about spoilers for a majority of the anime, but mostly stuff revealed in seasons 3-5, with a little bit of stuff from seasons 1 and 2, since those are the seasons with a lot of the important details that I will be attempting to write work arounds for. I will also be using the Wiki's names for story arcs (a list of which can be found here) when referring to specific plot events.

Also, to start this off, this speculation was pretty much brought upon by this post from the official BNHA OC Comeback blog, but what is important here is the tags.

I think the idea of Class 1-A and Class 1-B being third years would be a good starting point for what I want to be diving into.

First point should be a little obvious but in this timeline, Deku still inherits One for All from All Might. This is mainly because if he didn't, if someone where to write or draw an interaction between this version of class 1-A with, lets say class 1-X for this example, Deku would likely not be there, due to not having a quirk, causing the question of "who is the 20th student in class 1-A?" One for All would likely be passed down to someone else (most likely Mirio because Nighteye was going to recommend him to All Might in the first place, and if Deku is not going to inherit it, I doubt there would be anything in the way of Mirio getting One for All)

Second point I want to point out is the battle between All Might and All for One that had happened before the events of the show. I think All Might will still suffer from his injuries from the fight, and continue being the symbol of peace, even if it is killing him. BUT I think it would be best if All for One gets defeated and gets put into hiding, not initiating any of his plans or finding Tomura Shigaraki. Tomura never getting taken in by One for All would also cause the League of Villains to never form (at least not in the way we are familiar with) so we.

Third Point is, although this is speculation, and I do not know where Nomus come from, I do think, even without the league of villains, there would be some sort of lab somewhere where Nomus are being created, likely as one of the last things All for One was able to set into motion before going into hiding in the AU. (I mostly went with this because I think Nomus as a concept are really cool, and I think it would be great to have some sort of generic enemy for the 1-X and 1-Y students to have to face without the need of creating a new organization)

Fourth Point is because All for One is in hiding, so All for One can not force All Might to reveal his "injured form" (I dunno what else to call it), but I do think when All Might and Sato get engaged, he will maybe (and this is a big maybe) reveal it to the public on his own, as more of a "I'm retiring and settling down now" then a "You must keep fighting because I can not" thing, causing crime to not sky rocket, but still rise because there is no more symbol of peace, since there is still the possibility (at least in the publics mind) that All Might could come out of retirement and go back to saving people.

Alright now I begin with some of the actual stuff that actively happened in the show that Class 1-A and Class 1-B had experienced.

Alright so everything at the beginning of the anime is the same, going up until the USJ arc. This is because, as stated previously, there is no League of Villains to attack the USJ. The only thing I can think of that could possibly stay the same is the All Might vs Nomu fight, because I think Nomus as a concept are cool and that was an awesome fight. The only way for the fight to happen though is that the Nomu is let loose somewhere else, like a highly populated area, because it makes no sense for it to be at USJ without the League.

Next is the sports festival, and this would also go the same. But after that is probably the most interesting arc I leave mostly unchanged, being the Hero Killer Arc. This is because, even without a League of Villain's, there would still be people following Stain's ideologies after he is detained, so I think maybe there could be some sort of small unorganized group of people following Stain's beliefs that there are no more "true" heroes. The group of stain followers would likely be the characters that had joined the League of Villains after the Hero Killer Arc (like Dabi, Himiko Toga, and Twice). It is also unchanged in the sense that the students are interning with Pro Heroes, and that Nomus are running around, being a cool concept (can you tell I like Nomus? I just think they are neat.).

Next is the Final exams Arc, which would go unchanged, but the next arc, the Forrest Camp Training arc, would also not have a League attack (because there is no league), and Class 1-A and Class 1-B have a normal experience at the training camp, causing there to be no Hideout Raid arc, because there is no hideout to raid.

Next, the Provisional License Exams are the same results, so no change here, except Camie Utsushimi would be there instead of Toga's impersonation of her, and still ending up to need to take the Remedial Course.

After that is the Shie Hassaikai Arc and then Remedial Course Arc. The Shie Hassaikai Arc would actually largely go unchanged because it is mainly just another internship for the Hero Course students, with the only change to the arc being the League involvement being removed, even though this would leave some plot holes, which I will fill by saying the small unorganized Stain followers would take the place of the league (since Toga and Twice are apart of the Stain followers group, so they would still end up working for them, filling the same rolls they had in the original Arc). Also Overhaul doesn't lose his arms because there would be no reason for him to get them ripped off (because there is no League of Villains). ALSO this means Eri would be canon to the BNHA OC Comeback, which I wanted to mention since from my knowledge she is a fan favorite. After that, the Remedial Course would go unchanged.

I'm also going to say that Mirio will have already gotten his quirk back during the main events of the AU, since Nighteye had predicted that he would get it back before Nighteye had died. How he gets it back will likely go unanswered, since I have not read ahead to the most recent chapter of the manga, only watching the anime, so we should leave the answer to how he got it back to be unclear just in case he gets it back in a spoiler-y way.

Then, lastly as of right now, the rest of the arcs would go unchanged up untill the latest arc where Todoroki, Midoriya, and Bakugo are interning with Endeavor, excluding the parts of the arc going into the Meta Liberation War, which can not properly go through thanks to their being no League of Villains, but especially because there is no Tomura.

Alright now we get to the stuff some of you are here for, being the new info and timeline stuff that occurs during the year Class 1-X and 1-Y are first years. First off, Class 1-A and Class 1-B would now be third years, which was a concept brought up in the original post that cause my brain to go into theory mode.

I would also like to pose the idea of a new "Big Three", replacing Mirio Togata, Tamaki Amajiki, and Nejire Hado (and also the nameless "Big Three" from when 1-A/1-B had been second years in this AU) since 1-A and 1-B are now all third years. This new "Big Three" would be made up of Katsuki Bakugo, Shoto Todoroki, and Izuku Midoriya, seeing as out of Class 1-A and Class 1-B, those three have shown to be the most consistent heavy hitters (and also being the most relevant to the original plot).

Aside from that, Class 1-A and 1-B would not be doing that much in the AU aside from the new "Big Three" occasionally helping out the first year Hero Course students with their studies.

Anyway if you read this far I really appreciate it. I have some more ramblings about stuff in the tags, but its more side stuff that doesn't really effect this AU within another AU.

To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts - Review!

First review here we go!!

So, after being completely and utterly obsessed with Jujutsu Kaisen and AOT season 4, I decided to check out MAPPA studios and watch a bunch of stuff from their roster. My so-called "MAPPA binge" included this strange and unknown piece: Katsute Kami Datta Kemono-tachi e, or in English, To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts. An adaption of a manga originally released in Bessatsu Shounen (you might recognize this as the magazine that released Attack on Titan!), it looked pretty promising. I do have to admit that I didn't read a page of this anime's manga, though the art style on it looks gorgeous!!

The concept behind the show: A war has torn two halves of a nation apart, split into the North and the South. The Northerners, who were previously greatly outnumbered in battle, created a half-human, half-beast species known as "Incarnates" because of their God-like abilities. But the Incarnates begin having some issues when their beast forms take over their bodies, turning them into monsters. When the war ends, our protagonist, Hugh Hank, an Incarnate and previous captain of the Incarnate squad, swears to kill all of his mutating Incarnate buddies before they can destroy the world.

This review will not contain spoilers until the labeled "Spoiler" section at the bottom.

In general, what do I think?: 4/10, this show kinda sucked. Ouch! I hate being that blunt! Especially on my first review here! But To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts (let's call it TTASB from here on out!) had glaring flaws that, while it did hold up as a show, made it uninteresting and hard to love. Not only were the characters mediocre and boring, but the show seemed to contradict itself and its own opinion of the Incarnates all the time! Are they bloodthirsty monsters that need to be killed? Are they misunderstood humans who should be given peace? I don't know! Our main characters don't seem to either! Other than the "war bad" motif that gets shoved down your throat from episode one, the show felt stagnant in what it was trying to make the audience feel.

I hate being so cynical about it, though, because it does still earn those 4 points! Even though a lot of it falls flat, as a whole, it's still an ok show! Hank and Schaal have good concepts and their dilemmas are interesting in certain parts when the writers manage to nail pits and pieces of their development! The fight scenes were cool and I think that the concept for the world was neat! And the show does have a pretty cool title. Let's be honest, To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts sounds super metal.

So what about those characters?: 5/10! Hugh Hank and Schaal are our two main protags for the show, and they both have pretty interesting concepts! Hank is an Incarnate, he used to be the leader of the other Incarnates, and he made a vow with them that when they lost their minds, he would kill them himself. Schaal is the daughter of one of these Incarnates that fought under Hank. Interesting, right?! How could these two opposing characters get along with one another?

TTASB tries to give the two of them a sort of grumpy-old-mentor-teaches-a-cheery-youngster relationship (which, admittedly, is one of my favorite tropes) and manages to forget everything good about having this kind of relationship. To start, it feels like Schaal has next to no reason to be tolerating Hank, and vice versa. She follows him around because *insert some excuse about understanding the Incarnates?* and Hank lets her because *insert I really don't know*. It really feels like Schaal doesn't need to be there, and she's just a plot device to move along Hank's character development.

Then, the two of them never really interact in ways that really moved me. It never felt like they made a deeper connection that meant something to the plot. They interacted, sure. They spoke about their issues, yeah. But it never felt like Hank needed Schaal, or that Schaal was emotionally tied to Hank, until the show spoonfed it to you that they were.

In the end, neither of their developments felt compelling or interesting. There were a few scenes that maybe, if you squinted, hinted towards them growing as people, but for a 12 episode anime, it was very menial. It also felt like said scenes were fairly forced, with their development not really leading them to the point that they ended up at. Again, TTASB has a bit of an issue with contradicting itself.

The villain was so meh. He has a motive, yeah. It's pretty lame. He's not compelling at all. Nothing about him is interesting or kept me hooked on him. The show probably could've existed without him, to be entirely honest. I don't really have much else to say about him! I just did not really care about him at all.

The best characters in the show are hands-down the supporting cast of Incarnates. Each one has fairly interesting motivations, and even though they're only given an episode or so to tell their stories, they feel the most genuine. My biggest qualm with them is that the show doesn't build their connection to Hugh Hank at all, so when he gets emotional over them, you're kind of like "uhhh u know this guy??". More about this down in our spoilers section, as I'll go over a scene where this is prominent.

So characters were meh, but what about the story itself?: 4/10, just as meh. Again, very interesting! Lots of potential! But it fell flat where it mattered. To be clear, just before we dig deeper: the 12 episodes of TTASB isn't the entire story. It's clearly intended to be continued, though, as of writing this, I haven't been able to dig up any news about a potential season 2.

I don't really mind if animes aren't completely original, as long as they're fun, but TTASB didn't really do that. A lot of the episodes felt boring and reused like it was a watered-down copy-paste of other material. Some episodes were repetitive and seemed to be trying to hammer in the same themes, only to be later contradicted by other episodes. TTASB will spend a few episodes showing you how misunderstood and sweet the Incarnates are and then have an episode where an Incarnate murders a bunch of people. I would love it if it was, in any way, shape, or form, sarcastic, but it is not. TTASB just thinks it can get away with the blatant disregarding of its own morals. It only ends up feeling disconnecting and frustrating.

It follows an almost monster-of-the-week style format for introducing the Incarnates, which does them a bit of a disservice, in my opinion. I really would have liked it if there was a bit more overlap between the Incarnates and their stories! We know that they're all very close (or, at least, the show tells us that they are without really showing us) so seeing them interact with one another outside of their respective episode would've been fun!

The story tries to be darker and grimier than it actually is. I didn't end up caring much for the nation itself and much of the politics that the show tried to utilize felt boring and, again, watered-down. It felt like the show wanted to make it a political drama about war and human rights and only ended up shying away from what makes those genres impactful. Again, this isn't to say that TTASB's story is bad, it's just not as good as it could've been.

But it's MAPPA, so the art has to be good, right?: Yeah! Art was cool! Nothing golden, like MAPPA's newer stuff, but a solid 7/10! The fight scenes were nice, and even though a lot of them felt redundant to watch, they were still smooth! I have some qualms about a few of the Incarnates' beast forms (especially Hank's) looking like they belong back in 2001, but they still looked cool nonetheless.

I don't really have much to say on this front! Nothing really blew me away, but I never looked at the screen and winced away.

Ok and finally, pacing!: 4/10. 12 episode animes always have tricky pacing to them. I like to think about the show being pretty much only 5 hours long, which isn't that much time to cram in as much story and plot as they might want to. Overall, TTASB actually had pretty decent pacing, with a long enough build-up that led to a final showdown. If you ask me, I do think there was a pacing problem in the second half, as it felt far too stretched out, but that could've just been my perception of it.

My biggest issue with pacing loops back to the characters again. They're never really given time to explore or build up relationships. Especially not Hank and his prior team of Incarnates. I think that there should've been more screen time dedicated to their time in the army, to better explain the emotional distress that he's going through as he's forced to hunt them down. Instead, TTASB relies on a throwaway line or scene to deliver this emotional blow, and it nearly always falls flat.

Music!!!!: 6/10, The soundtrack in this anime really wasn't memorable and I don't remember much from it. Whoops!

I did like the opening a bit! It was done by Mafumafu, who I think has done a Pokemon intro song? Either way, it was energetic and fit the theme of the show well! The ending is also a bop, now that I'm thinking about it! It manages to be nostalgic and sad without being too slow! So good music on both fronts!!

OK, now we're in spoiler territory! Be warned!

I don't have too much to say regarding spoilers. Nothing in the show really feels important enough that I have to mention it under a spoiler tag. A few small notes, I suppose.

The show treats Hank like the more important character but then throws him away in his "death" to focus on Schaal, which was a very frustrating episode. Schaal felt so bland and useless in it, even when she faced her father again. Bringing him back to life felt like a sad excuse to force her into character development. I did like it when she found the courage to shoot him, but I also thought that it wasn't really as emotional as the show wanted it to be.

Hank's connection with Schaal, particularly in the second half, feels completely unnatural and forced. When she gets kidnapped, he has some sort of mental breakdown over her and it, if anything, felt creepy. It was undeserved and was forced down your throat rather than built.

Beatrice was the best character in the show and I think that if they stuck to ideas like hers (misunderstood creatures who just want to go back to their old lives), the story would have been much better. Instead, you switch to characters like the Gargoyle Incarnate, who just goes on a murder spree, and it ruins a lot of the development that Beatrice brought to the table.

& our deep deep look at one part: Forgive me if I get this screwed up a bit, it's been a weekish since I finished the show and my brain dumped out all details of it already.

Hugh Hank goes to the mountains and fights the Garmr Incarnate, Rex (Roy? I'm a bit confused on his name), in an epic show-down. Obviously, at the end of it, Hank wins, killing Rex. Now, if you're like me, you sat there for most of the fight going "who tf is Rex and why is this battle important?" and only at the very END, when he's dying, do you see a clip that you might remember from the very beginning of the anime, with Rex talking about Schaal. You go "oohhh I know who he is!" but you wished that you remembered this ten minutes ago when the fight started because it would've been so much more impactful. The show didn't remind you of this scene. It didn't tell you that Rex was this same person that you already met. It expected you to remember, and I didn't. This scene sums up a lot of the character problems with the show, where even if something does have emotional weight, the show doesn't act on it.
