#its structure as anti-establishment and anti-conformity

there’s so many ways that queerness exists in texts, unintentionally and intentionally, coded and uncoded and partially coded and baited and confused and limited and expansive, and then there’s whatever is happening with Hawkeye Pierce, M.D. of the 4077th MASH unit
#hawkeye pierce#MASH#there is of course also the constant mist of gender/sexuality queering that hangs over the narrative because of its structure#its structure as comedy (often subject to whimsical departures from acceptable gender/sexualities)#its structure as anti-establishment and anti-conformity#its celebration of non-conformist personalities and lives and its redefinitions over and over of madness and mutual aid#its structure - of course - as found family#its structure as an island in a sea of militant and fascistic surrealism and answering the questions of:#well what does the alternative to that violence look like?#so the idea of intentionality/unintentionality sort of doesn't matter#because it's creating a manifesto/ethos of sorts that speaks the same language as queerness#and it's down to the DNAs of its structures#(not even mentioning the structures of echoing the realities of those making it -- ethnicities - romantic lives - cultures and religions -#friendships and political beliefs - family structures created on the set of the show itself)#but yes hawkeye pierce is depicted as fascinatingly overtly queer and comedy is (like horror... which....) an acceptable space#for him to be this#(which -- when the horror and tragedy takes more of a front seat his funny-man queerness is somewhat diminished#but a. still very much present b. given an air of drama that legitimises it further c. underpinned by seasons and seasons of existence#d. embedded in that self-same DNA of the structures -- he IS the main POV character#which means he's carrying so much of that idea of non-conformity/civilish disobedience as good and right/whimsy/gender-and-sexuality/etc#so you see... there's whatever is happening with hawkeye pierce M.D.

Anybody who walks out of the theater and says, “Barbie  is anti-men” lacks media analysis skills. So let’s do a what I thought no one would have to do for this film—an unnecessarily deep dive. But it seemingly needs to get done for this crowd.
Shall we?
(And spoilers)
In Barbieland, men are seen as nothing but accessories to all of the exceptional women. Even the least exceptional woman—Stereotypical Barbie—is more exceptional than the average Ken.
(The exceptional Kens like Sugar Daddy Ken and Earring Magic Ken as well as Allan are othered within the hierarchy of Barbieland, a clear allegory for non-conforming/queer men. Even Weird Barbie is othered by the Barbies for her non-conformity but at least has a house)
Contrast Barbieland with the (still surreal) Real World, where the gender roles are often reversed.
In the lead up to the 2016 US Presidential election, for example, there were still people saying that they couldn’t vote for a woman.
That was it. Not her policies. A woman.
The film goes out of its way to prove that Ken—despite being cis/White/straight and male—cannot get EVERYTHING he wants without qualifications and experience. But he DOES get a basic level of respect that he never got in Barbieland from Barbies and the power structure they benefit from.
At one point, the film has a line where a man says, “I’m a man without power. Am I a woman?”
In the film’s Real World (and ours), women often struggle to get power. And so do men! But women face social barriers that men simply do not.
Meanwhile, despite being “everything”, in the Real World, Barbie’s a sexual object to men and almost immediately assaulted; and vilified by girls/women for setting unrealistic body standards. And is torn to shreds by Sasha, the girl she thought she had to help.
Ken takes patriarchy back to Barbieland and the Barbies—unable to conceive of a world like the film’s version of the Real World—basically short-circuit. The Kens, meanwhile, having always been second-class citizens, relish in the new idea and hierarchy.
But, as the film establishes, Kens don’t have an education or qualifications. They can’t even build a wall right because they weren’t conceptualized to be useful/given the tools to be.
Ken’s job was literally Beach.
They’d have actually destroyed Barbieland.
Similarly, nobody is saying you should just appoint women in our world into positions of power, just to appoint them. But we ARE saying that there are qualified women who deserve to be in places that they aren’t because they’re not men.
And that’s wrong.
By the end of the film, Barbie realizes that she actually owes Ken an apology. Yes, Ken tried to overthrow the Barbies. But Ken was reacting to Barbie’s rejection in a toxic—yeah, I said it—way.
And reacting to their society too, even if he doesn’t really know it.
The Kens had a point. The Barbies HAD mistreated them. Barbie didn’t even know where Kens lived in Barbieland, after all.
And to not acknowledge their point is to also not acknowledge the real world point that women are often mistreated in our world just for being women.
I’ve seen some people brandishing stats about how women USED to be marginalized. But now they aren’t. And can do anything. And earn just as much as men.
And yet, Forbes reports that only 10% of Fortune 500 companies have female CEO’s.
Anyway, so the film ends with Barbie telling Ken that he needs to define himself independently of being with Barbie. Which is analogous to how women in the workforce and getting educated/qualified in our world, allows them to be financially independent of men.
In Barbieland, Barbies have always been autonomous and allowed to be independent of men. And have flourished. And President Barbie promises to allow Kens to take part in the running of their shared society. Because everybody deserves to be seen and heard.
There are valid criticisms to be made about this film ranging from how its feminism lacks intersectionality; to how Mattel’s own workers in developing nations are often underpaid and overworked; to consumerism being the main tool of empowerment that Barbie (the toy) endorses.
But it’s one film and I understand that it can’t address EVERYTHING. It chose to stick with gender broadly.
And I think it successfully lands that point.

"What about saying something you believe in, making those anthems from the fraternity house as important as sermons from barricades? Why, in a sense, did these punk initiates not take up the gauntlet thrown down by rebel rockers like The Clash, or translate 'Anarchy In The UK' into a north American setting? Speaking to Playboy's Charles Young in 1987, Adam Yauch touched on this issue.
"What most adults don't understand about most teenagers is that most teenagers are extremely conservative most of the time, even as they are engaging in obnoxious behavior designed to differentiate themselves from most adults. Most teenagers enjoy a heavily structured life, are threatened by deviations from the conforming norm and will ridicule those enamored of deviating from the conforming norm. In this way, most teenagers are exactly like most adults, the only difference being that teenagers piss their lives away in high school while adults piss their lives away in corporations. Most teenagers do, after all, grow up to be most adults."
Speaking as Licensed To Ill was about to top the American album charts, Yauch's right to pontificate seems not unreasonable. To those weaned on the all-out attack philosophies of the punk era, his views may seem profoundly distressing, but at least he could point to his success as vindication of his notions and his approach to his music. Even if this is all Licensed To Ill is - a reassuring shot of brattish obnoxiousness from a troupe of clever young men who've given it enough anti-establishment credibility to make their record appear dangerous to adults while remaining accessible and desirable to the sought-after teenage audience - it is still a considerable achievement. Some may even make claims for it being subversive. And a few people well placed to make such a judgment have made claims for its validity as art. Admittedly, Israel Horovitz could hardly be described as an impartial judge, but his comments to The Los Angeles Times are revealing.
"If people can't see the humor and satire in the record, I don't know what to say to them," Adrock's father said. "It's all so obvious. I think the thing that makes the record so good is that it shows a real understanding of people; maybe not an understanding of 49-year-olds, but certainly of 17-year-olds. I am delighted beyond description; it's like a kid taking over the family store."
Certainly, in defense of the album's nihilism, it can be argued that the record represents a startling warning to the political and social establishments that sought to have its makers hounded out of the public eye. If one is to try to understand the album in any serious sort of way, you have to consider its worth, as Horovitz Senior is hinting, as a piece of satirical social observation. What can we learn of adolescent America in 1986 from this record? Maybe not much we didn't already know; teenagers, as Yauch told Playboy, are often as reactionary and scared of change as their parents, and largely bored most of the time, play at being tough in front of their mates when in reality their insecurities prevent them from being assertive enough, and have given up on any hope that they have a meaningful influence on their society. It is surely not a mere coincidence that levels of apathy among first time voters in the United States and western Europe reached new peaks during these years. As governments in the USA and Britain, in particular, became convergent around a single political philosophy, with voter choice being limited to one of two parties (Republican and Democrat, Conservative and Labour) whose defining parameters all but vanished, it seemed as though a line had been drawn in the social sands. You were either part of the consensus and happy to participate in it, or you stood on the outside with no real hope of influencing events. Youth should be a time when your dreams and ideals are nurtured and encouraged, yet to so many young people growing up in the so-called industrialized west of the mid-to late-80s, ideals were all too often things you sacrificed for profit, dreams nothing more than the unattainable goals of hopeless romantics. It's little wonder so many people decided to take a turn away from the way things had been done before - and even a decision to step into a mental and philosophical void seemed like a tempting move compared to the other options available. So, in adopting these caricatures and living out this fantasy lifestyle, the Beasties were actually providing positive role models, by seemingly proving the validity of an imagination and demonstrating that it was possible to succeed on the older generation's terms - i.e. financially - by making a virtue of what they sought to take away from you.
This point was never fully appreciated at the time, though, and the rather more dubious parts of the band's package were allowed to overshadow the whole. It's interesting to note that similar mistakes of appreciation and perception are still being made: for example, most discussion of Be Here Now, the third album by Manchester rock band Oasis - routinely described through the mid-90s, like the Beasties before them, as "the bad boys of rock" - concentrated on its deficiencies or otherwise sonically and the band's failure to radically alter the formula of their earlier records. Yet in its lyrics, the album offers messages of hope and encouragement to dream and keep positive in the face of institutionalized apathy: "Say something, shout it from the rooftops off your head" (from 'It's Getting Better (Man!)') may well prove to be as defining a lyric to the present generation as Bob Dylan's 'Blowin' In The Wind' had been three decades earlier, precisely because of the song's helpless lack of specificity."

Not an ask, just an opinion.
Personally, I think Jensen has been in love with Jared the whole filming of SPN and Jared and he were involved all that time. When Jared decided to try to make his marriage with Gen work, broke up with Jensen and wanted to leave SPN, it devastated Jensen to the point where he wanted to hurt Jared very badly, by stealing the legacy they created together and making the Prequel. That would explain the anger exhibited by those videos/pictures he posted of him body building during The Boys, the refusing to take responsibility for his own actions and blaming Jared, the bad decisions, the sadness and self-loathing he exhibits whenever he is around his wife, the self-aggrandizing (to get Jared's attention) and why he only looks alive and happy when he's with Jared. The supposed women he is having affairs with are just for cover, to appease his ego and stroke his soul, which is probably the only thing keeping him going right now, underneath the swagger of ego. He's an unhappy, jilted, ex who met his soul mate and now has to live without him. I don't see his unhappiness ending anytime soon.
Hmm interesting opinion/ask you shared with me here, Anon. I see you are a so called "tin hatter" who has managed to find my blog. Thank you for stopping by to share your thoughts with me. So, I am going to begin by saying that I will admit I myself have had some questions about some things I've learned and noticed myself with what I have seen, heard, etc. I do think a lot of what you're saying here has some truth to it. However, it is not as simple as them being exes or in a secret relationship or in love with each other and I highly suspect things are one sided. I don't know if you've read much about my blog or if you've just seen certain anti Danneel posts of mine but my blog is mainly about the SPN cast along with spirituality related topics, particularly divination. For that reason, I am going to share with you a reading I did about this topic back on October 4, 2023 after a friend of mine and I have been seeing some things while dreamwalking, and noticing some things that have manifested after seeing said things.
Tumblr media
In the Tarot, The Hierophant who is said to be the masculine counterpart to The High Priestess represents spiritual wisdom, religious beliefs, conformity, tradition, institutions, personal beliefs, freedom, and sometimes on the contrary challenging the status quo. The 3 of Cups is said to be a card of celebration, friendship, creativity, collaborations, independence, alone time, hardcore partying, and sometimes even the notion that ‘three’s a crowd’. The King of Pentacles is symbolic of wealth, business, leadership, security, discipline, abundance, or on the opposite end of things being financially inept, obsessed with wealth and status, and also a stubborn personality. The Page of Wands represents inspiration, ideas, discovery, limitless potential, a free spirit, newly-formed ideas, redirecting energy, self-limiting beliefs, and a spiritual path being presented. The 7 of Swords (a card I admittedly am not liking in this reading I did) is a card that stands for betrayal, deception, getting away with something, acting strategically, imposter syndrome, self-deceit, and states someone is keeping secrets. Death in the Tarot may sound self-explanatory as to its meaning but is not always meant to be telling of a literal death. In the Tarot, Death is about endings, change (and resistance to), transformation (internal and external), transition, and inner purging. Lastly, The Emperor in this deck ties in somewhat with The Hierophant with some similar meanings and what the card represents, which include authority, establishment, structure, a father figure, domination, excessive control, lack of discipline, and generally being inflexible.
So, I post an extremely small fraction of the things I receive divination readings about and post things with the direction of my guides. Some of my guides include the higher selves (in Jensen's case, former higher selves [currently a "dumped" incarnation]) of both Jensen's and Jared's. Some of the things I have not posted on here involve the true nature of their relationship, which again is not as straight forward or as simple as a said secret relationship between them or both being in love with each other. I do agree with you that Jensen seems to feel some hurt from some thing(s) Jared has done (or not) behind closed doors. After watching some old interview clips, con videos, etc., I do notice some interesting looks and behaviors coming from Jensen's direction (body language, how he looks at Jared compared to other people, etc.).
The King of Pentacles being diagonal from the Page of Wands (which I feel symbolizes Jared in this particular case) and also the 7 of Swords is very interesting (and concerning as I'll explain why). The Hierophant and The Emperor (boot looking card) paired in present in this reading together states there is an authoritative father figure that's fairly religious (Jensen's father who Jared reportedly called "Papa Ackles") involved that is a big reason why Jensen is in the closet. However, the 2 cards that tinhatters are probably not gonna like seeing the explanation for here are Death and 7 of Swords. As I'll explain below, these 2 cards are setting half the tone in this reading with . I am not here to appease to people with what I write and such. If it resonates okay if not then it doesn't, simple as that. The card in the center (Page of Wands) curiously is the same card I feel represents Jared. This to me confirms that Jared is more or less on the receiving end of things and isn't so much "giving" out as much as some think but instead "goes with the flow". I also believe greatly that Jared doubts himself a lot and seems to put himself down a lot when praising Gen and others, which is part of what's called Imposter Syndrome.
Based on what I know of his dad Alan and have seen in some YouTube videos (like this one, [trigger warning: this is a Pro Life related video so if this is a trigger do not watch!]), I do believe now based on what I've learned about his past, have observed both on and off camera with women versus Jared say, and even his actions (or inactions) that Jensen is not of the straight orientation. I believe also his dad is a big reason for this, as I think he is afraid of not getting approval from his dad should he not conform to the Christian family man image Jensen to this day tries to sell (and is failing at doing so more and more as the days go on). The Emperor (authoritative father figure) and The Hierophant (religious, institutional, and traditional ways of being) I believe tie in strongly with the dynamic between Jensen and his dad. Is Jensen afraid of "getting the boot" (The Emperor) from his religious dad (The Hierophant) and therefore his family? You mentioned the women/woman Jensen's sleeping with is all for cover and even his marriage with Danneel, or the so called "bearding". I have been wondering if this is why Jensen has never once that I can recall shown Danneel any real affection publicly (and vice versa). You can talk all you want about feeling this and that about her Jensen at cons but those of us who pay attention know better. Actions (and inactions) speak much louder than words. The 3 of Cups in this reading seems to point to what you are suggesting here.
With regards to the King of Pentacles representing Jensen, he likes to dress "nicer" (personally, I want to burn the green shirt he wore to the Charlotte con a couple months back), is VERY big on personal image and sticks with the Christian family man persona that clearly isn't working out. However, I believe he makes a lot of very poor decisions both from a business aspect (thus the "financially inept" tidbit from the King of Pentacles description coming into play here) AND in his personal life. I also elaborated a good deal here on the King of Pentacles representing Jensen in this reading I did a few months ago regarding Drake and Jensen's relationship dynamic (Drake being a so called "mini Jared" or "Jared 2.0). I also mentioned in that post things about Jensen wearing green velvet to interviews before The Winchesters aired. Rumors have been going around for a while that Family Business Beer Company is doing badly but I believe it's becoming more apparent in recent months. They are aggressively trying to expand the distribution of their beers yet their location hours remain at a solid 30 hours, which in itself is a troubling sign (as is being closed for 3 days of the week). Recently I've read a couple posts here on Tumblr mentioning possible layoffs have happened at FBBC in the last couple weeks, which is also always a troubling sign things aren't going so well. With respect to his personal life, whew I think that's just a downright hot mess. The lawsuit that was announced at the end of August with Jensen and Danneel Ackles named certainly will impact both their personal and business lives.
The house that Jensen bought back in July is surrounded by cemeteries (aka marked graves, who knows about unmarked graves), as I posted about here. I'll make another post about this but some speculated it was for business ventures aka a business investment to which my guides say "not quite, more like a real estate investment period". I agree with my guides 100% for multiple reasons and trust they are right. If Jensen intends on using this giant mansion for purposes remotely related to business investments, he and Danneel will be very unpleasantly surprised for multiple reasons. There is understandably some doubt about whether Jensen actually moved to Connecticut at all, due to several sightings of him in Texas at different times after he and Danneel were announced as the new owners of their CT mansion back in July 2023. Regardless of whether Jensen is fully living there, lives there part of the year, just bought it for a vacation home or whatever the story is, the fact is the Ackles don't seem to have had any strong ties to the state prior to them buying this house. Why buy a house on the other side of the country where you've barely visited previously if everything good going on for Jensen is in Austin, including Jensen's said best friend Jared?
I hate the be the bearer of bad news here but if you all think this is merely a business investment and that this will be converted into a B&B or another brewery location, I'll point you to 3 sources that says to me any plans Danneel and Jensen may have like this are extremely likely gonna get foiled real fast (type of zone their house is in, what you can and can't do in different zones in Connecticut, and oh my someone tried to petition to allow B&Bs in residential zones over 10 years in a house that's not even 4 miles away from the mansion and DENIED). Oh, and when signing the papers for buying the house, the lines indicating the purposes of buying the house per the online deeds records did not include any commercial purposes, only personal residence purposes. Hmm.... I would call the mix of these things being financially inept.
Jared on the other hand I wholeheartedly believe is represented by the Page of Wands in this particular reading. While both of them own businesses, are obviously wealthy, and both have refered to themselves along with Jeffrey Dean Morgan "the three kings", I believe that Jared has a more youthful spirit and can be more free-spirited than Jensen by a long shot. Generally, Pages cards represent either children, the younger self of a person in question, or in my opinion someone who has a youthful spirit (can be full of energy, enthusiasm for new ideas, is playful, etc.). Although the description of this card doesn't directly say it on the link I provided I always think of a youthful or playful soul when I see the Page of Wands. The Page of Wands in my deck has 3 peppers on it. It has been said that Jared switched out the prop Ghost Pepper jerky Dean ate in Season 15 Episode 5 "Proverbs 17:3" (scene clip from YouTube below) with real Ghost Pepper Jerky as a prank. Sam and Dean in Season 1 Episode 17 "Hell House" (which happens to be playing on my new TV in my room now as I'm writing this) also pulled quite a few pranks on each other going back and forth, and also reportedly did so in real life on the set but off camera. Jared I noticed also tends to dress more casually or if he dresses up more nicely it's not in elaborate outfits unlike Jensen. I mean also the second clip I shared from YouTube below says it all for me with regards to this card representing Jared in this reading from a youthful spirit point of view.
I also recall reading about how Jared explored Epcot Center and Universal Studios for a day by himself when he was just 8 years old, scaring his grandfather nearly to death who was crying when Jared walked out of the gates of Disney World. This to me shows that Jared is indeed a free-spirited soul who isn't afraid of embarking on new journeys alone (even if others don't like it and Jared doesn't end up liking what follows, thus at times does challenge the status quo even if he and others don't like the outcome), and seems to value novelty or discovering new things and even has more of a creative streak than Jensen if we're to be frank. It was also stated in this article I linked to earlier in this paragraph that Kripke felt that Jared's soulfulness and likeability would be more suitable for Sam Winchester while Jensen's more "charismatic" character would better fit Dean Winchester. Therefore it seems that Kripke and others just might agree with my statements about Jared's personality and that the Page of Wands represents Jared in this particular case.
youtube
If you notice in this reading, The Hierophant (the card that looks like a hand) is pointing down towards the 7 of Swords. Along with the 3 of cups being next to The Hierophant, this suggests that secrets are being kept hidden from the public's ears regarding sexual orientation and feelings overall (many signs point to it... literally). I'm not going to go digging through the tinhatters stuff because there's frankly way too much of it ha ha, and I'm sure you Anon are aware of at least a lot of it (and others who are coming across this will probably know some things). It's interesting going across the reading on the other side is the King of Pentacles above The Emperor which to me points to Jensen and his dad, along with society's expectations of men like Jensen as a whole (thus the whole Christian family man image Jensen's trying to uphold versus the reality of things).
Now, onto the part where at least a lot of tinhatters are likely not going to believe what I say or will like me less for it. I'm not here to appease people's beliefs or tell them what they want to hear but I'm instead here to simply state what I've observed, my interpretation of this tarot reading, etc. If someone resonates with this cool but if not, well that's on them not me. The 7 of Swords card is one of the most dominant cards in this entire reading and very much sets the tone. This card as I mentioned earlier speaks of things such as betrayal, deception, keeping secrets, ulterior motives, and even getting away with something. Jensen has been called homophobic for multiple reasons, including his remarks regarding how Brokeback Mountain ruined western films for himself and also saying that Destiel is not a thing. I have heard of the saying that the most homophobic men are in fact in the closet and trying to compensate. As Dean Winchester once said "Of course, the most troubling question is: "Why do these people assume we're gay?" and Sam Winchester said "Well, you are kinda butch, probably think you're overcompensating." (interestingly the website however says "but I just think you're overcompensating). People also do say art imitates life (and sometimes seems to predict things), which I won't fully explain here why that is the truth with Supernatural and Jensen and Jared holistically, not just in a tinhatter's kind of way. It seems Supernatural really did model Jensen and Jared's relationship in many ways... at least, that's what we're supposed to believe.
Based on what I've been observing myself, have been learning via divination (and watching manifest), and what another friend and I have been learning via dreamwalking, a lot of what we're all seeing publicly is in fact smoke and mirrors. I do believe that some of the negative things that have happened between them did manifest in part as a result of Jensen acting upon hurt emotions, but also due to more self-serving ulterior motives on his part. I believe Prequel Gate (along with The Winchesters related posts happening while Walker was airing on multiple occasions) and YANA ring a bell for some people.
Regarding Prequelgate, I saw a Tweet of an old clip where Jensen specifically said "hell no" about doing a reboot as Dean after Supernatural ends and Jared confidently says "I'll answer that for him... NO". I agree with the OP that this didn't age well... This goes back to the 7 of Swords card. I agree with Jensen's critics, that Jensen is an opportunist who looks at every chance he can get to make money. Did Jensen genuinely believe he'd never consider making a SPN reboot as Dean, or did he intend to do so in the back of his mind all along? Clearly The Winchesters became the Dean Winchester show. I was given an interesting nudge a couple weeks ago to watch the movie Jennifer's Body in my divine hearing. I realized there are many parallels between Jensen and Jared, and Jennifer and Anita "Needy. In fact, I have concluded that the relationship dynamic between Jennifer/Anita and Jensen/Jared is in fact 100% identical behind closed doors.
Something else that's been bothering me lately as I'm doing this research. Now, I'm not sure what Jared's views were when Jensen decided to open the Family Business Beer Company physically in 2018 given the name was clearly a nod to SPN, 2 years after Jared opened San Jac Saloon in 2016. However, the FBBC LLC itself was filed and therefore was actually born November 5, 2014, which was 2 years before San Jac Saloon was opened. Did Jensen have plans of essentially "taking over" the Supernatural brand possibly for years and cashing in on it without Jared?
Tumblr media
With regards to YANA, I noticed also in my research that Jared wanted to end SPN multiple times (from what I understand 2 of these times took place in 2008 and 2015) but was stopped from doing so by Jensen and perhaps others chimed in as well. Was Jensen truly concerned about Jared's well-being and just enjoyed working with Jared so much he doesn't want to stop and that continuing SPN (and therefore those big paychecks) was just an added bonus... or was Jensen simply acting concerned about Jared's well-being while having ulterior motives up his sleeve the entire time? Also why, just why would Jensen and Misha even go with the YANA nonsense? I mean some of the posts correlated with things like Jared announcing his return to Gilmore Girls, Jared's McDonald's commercial airing the same day a YANA video gets released, Jared getting his 3rd national corporate sponsor from Chevy again on the same day a YANA video gets released, etc. Honestly, this YANA businesses sounds an awful lot to me like another money grab. And don't sit there and say this was all the studio making them do it. At the end of the day, we all have choices. You can't really force people to do things they don't want to. Instead of choosing to say no to making YANA a thing, Jensen and Misha still went about it. Conforming to an authoritative institution's wishes (The Hierophant and The Emperor) for self-serving business and therefore financial purposes (King of Pentacles), eh Jensen?
vimeo
I'm also interested in hearing from anyone why exactly Jensen reportedly made 50% more than Jared per SPN episode in later seasons (100k for Jared versus 150k for Jensen). The most logical explanation I could come up with based on research was Jensen got a director title attached to his paygrade after season 5, even if he wasn't actually directing the episode in question (directed 6 episodes in all). I suspect some favoritism may also have played a role, even if no one is saying it. I especially find it interesting that Kripke who was the original Show Runner for Supernatural initially didn't think Jared was smart enough to play the role of Sam Winchester. Sure, Jared certainly may have proven he is intelligent and therefore Kripke stood corrected on that tidbit; however, Kripke has repeatedly praised Jensen for things like his charisma (riiiight, go watch any interview of Jensen and you'll hear lots of umms, uhhs, and even inconsistencies between what he says from interview to interview), looks, charm, etc. It can't just be feeling overwhelmed or burned out with work as to why Jared wanted to leave SPN multiple times but didn't, nor does it explain why Jared had the breakdowns that he did in the past and why he was diagnosed with depression to begin with.
Edit: Adding this in because I believe it's very important to note here with the suspected favoritism and hostility on the set of SPN. Now, if this is remotely true at all, that Kripke got onto Jared's case "for having a bad day" and essentially holding production up over what some called "a hissy fit" back when he had his breakdown in 2007, oh boy am I now a big time Kripke critic. Also, Kripke overly praising Jensen as seen here is just absurd. Get it together Kripke, you're embarrassing yourself.

Now, for the other part of this reading the tinhatters are probably REALLY not gonna like... the Death card. Like I mentioned before, Death in the tarot isn't always about a literal death but is often times about the death of something and following that, the birth of another. This translates to things like transformation, change (and resistance to), inner purging, and endings. *Shudders* ENDINGS?! Like the so called "Jivorce" is really happening?! THIS CAN'T BE OMG! Chill out all... just a bit. I don't believe as Poseidon said that they will completely drift apart. However, there are only so many chances someone like Jensen will get from Jared as far as maintaining friendships and such goes. I also believe that with the physical distance that is presenting itself, a distance between them on a spiritual, psychological and emotional level will follow suit if it hasn't started already.
I briefly touched onto Jared's playful, youthful personality earlier when I explained my interpretation as the Page of Wands representing Jared and how this card has 3 peppers on it. I also touched onto Jared pranking Jensen by switching out the prop Ghost Pepper jerky with real Ghost Pepper jerky. The title of this episode is "Proverbs 17:3". The ESV Biblical verse says "The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold, and the LORD tests hearts." According to bibleref.com, the meaning of this verse says: "Scripture often uses the metaphor of a crucible: a container used to heat metals to burn off impurities. Passages frequently apply this in the context of God testing, purifying, cleansing, or providing loving correction to His people (Malachi 3:3; Zechariah 13:9; Jeremiah 9:7; 1 Corinthians 3:11–15). The "fire" of hardships, persecution, or God's testing proves what parts of a person's life are godly and which are not". Interestingly, Jensen eating real Ghost Pepper jerky could in a metaphorical sense be compared to "turning up the heat" physically and is therefore the "crucible" here. I believe however with the way things did go for Jared with regards to the set of SPN, YANA, Prequelgate, etc. that it is Jared's heart that is being tested and that Jensen (equivalent to crucible here) is being tested physically.
youtube
I mentioned the 3 of cups earlier having a possible interpretation that "3's a crowd". Interestingly, the Page of Wands happens to have 3 peppers on it. Often times this card is a very positive one and indicates a time of celebration, friendship, creativity, and even hardcore partying. I believe however that while this card offers a silver lining in that things will turn out okay overall for all parties involved, it won't be the happy ending certain parties involved are hoping for. In this case, the said wishes for Jensen of being involved with Jared as more than friends, and also any and all current lovers and relationships. I personally think that it's partially true what tinhatters believe but it's alot more complicated than what people want to believe. I've generally held more positive views of Jensen in previous posts. I still believe there is some goodness in Jensen somewhere. However, based on learning more things about Jensen, looking at his mannerisms and especially when I went to the main panel physically at the Charlotte convention earlier this year, my views of him have admittedly shifted some. After noticing some things personally, what I felt in the room during the main panel along with what I've learned about their dynamic, I believe Jensen has a so called "dark personality" for multiple reasons that in itself is for another possible post. Jensen can advocate for Jared all he wants with words BUTt based on the events and funny timing of when things were announced/aired surrounding The Winchesters versus Walker and YANA, along with other things, his actions sing a very different tune...
I mentioned earlier that I believe Jared struggles with Imposter Syndrome with regards to the 7 of Swords card, which is apparently common in people who have anxiety and depression. Jared was diagnosed with depression as many of us here know. I believe the one who is transforming and changing here is Jared, and Jensen is who is resisting these changes. Provided that Jared's been given the greenlight for a fourth season while Jensen's The Winchesters was cancelled (and not to mention a lawsuit naming Jensen and Danneel came out of it), it seems Jensen did not listen to signs pointing to no (and therefore resisted changing his ways). I do believe that the way things went with The Winchesters being criticized heavily was the death of Jensen's life as he knows it... Given the Page of Wands is in the center of this reading, it seems many signs and things in this reading point to Jensen and in this case ultimately going back to Jared. According to this Tumblr post, Jared took with him from the set of SPN the fact it's not necessary to work 14 hour days. Based on how this post was written, from my understanding of things it was suggested that Jared wanted it to be clear that people can joke around with him and be comfortable around him despite being the boss. I may be misreading this but to me, this does imply that there could've been some mistreatment or passive aggressive type of behaviors on the set of Supernatural... or just like I said earlier in one sweet word, favoritism.
On a final note, I noticed that timing is everything just as Jared knew while timing his announcements with the AKF versus YANA business. The Emperor in my tarot deck is the boot looking card and the 7 of Swords card is depicted as a mouse holding knives. The day I did this reading (October 4, 2023) I happened to watch "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1" a couple hours before I did this tarot reading. In the first scene of the movie after the title screen and Peter is no longer a citizen of Earth, he is seen putting his headphones on and starts kicking around small creatures that stand only a little above his ankles (equivalent to the mouse in this tarot reading in the sense of being smaller than we are and both being seen as "pests") while wearing what appears to be rain boots prior to stealing The Orb from Morag. Peter Quill aka Star-Lord is certainly no conformist, loves his freedom, is obviously free-spirited, creative, and is highly receptive to changing for the better. On a perhaps more odd note, my guides have told me for a while now that I am essentially the real life female Star Lord (personalities being very similar, some intimate life details, many encounters with "other kinds", issues with educational institutions, leaving Earth [in my case via dreamwalking many nights, almost crossing over aka "ascending" off Earth multiple times, and almost physically once too over 10 years ago], problems with authority figures and discipline, and more). I'm not sure if this is true or not but as an added bonus, some websites including this one stated that Jensen auditioned for the role of Star-Lord/Peter Quill.
youtube
How interesting, given I received this particular reading on the same day I watched this movie for the first time since I finally understood why my guides kept saying "nope" for me screwing or fucking around", and would instead consistently say "you Fooled Around and Fell in Love"....

how old were u when u left orthodoxy?
Hi anon,
The short version is that although I am a convert (not raised in orthodoxy) I left orthodoxy multiple times. The first was in my early 20s when I left my orthodox community and the second was when I left my all-but-orthodox ‘trad egal’ community in my mid-20s. Both of these communities were strict and chauvinistic even though the second was supposedly more progressive. Most orthodox or orthodox-adjacent communities have strong elements of religious Zionism (the idea that the modern state of Israel is God-ordained), just as most Jewish communities in the USA are Zionist to some degree.
I’m taking this as an excuse to answer “why did you leave orthodoxy?” even though you didn’t ask that.
If you’d like a longer explanation and more background, especially if you’re not from this part of the Jewish world, see below. Note that I am very critical of orthodoxy and its satellite communities.
Short background: Modern orthodox Judaism seeks to be orthodox in the modern world–secular education is allowed (unlike in ultra-orthodoxy). While modern orthodoxy is moving rightward politically and religiously, modern orthodoxy definitely remains (see Rabbis Marc Angel, Jonathan Sacks, etc.) Halachic/trad egal are very similar movements somewhere between orthodoxy and conservative/masorti Judaism, which follow similar stringencies to orthodoxy, but which allow for more women’s participation. There are claims I can't directly disprove that some trad egal communities are basically Reform in their social politics but are more observant re: dietary laws and shabbat or so I'm told. But that’s not the rule across the board and was not the case in the second community I left.
It’s not uncommon for “left wing” modern orthodox communities to take a “harm reduction” approach to people leaving orthodoxy. Many orthodox practices are still encouraged even if someone leaves this very small but still extant branch of modern orthodoxy, and which trad/halachic egal communities often still embody, if only because their membership is largely former-orthodox Jews who haven’t deconstructed their issues and Jews who are insecure and need structure/in-group identity. Examples:
Keeping kosher and keeping shabbat (simple enough, but often functions to keep people from making non-Jewish friends because no time/can't share food)
In a similar way, not engaging in much interfaith work or relationships. This is often done both through emphasizing the importance of ritual observance as well as stoking fears of antisemitism.
Identifying with orthodoxy as a label–it’s a hard emotional bond to sever. I identified as “orthodox-adjacent” even after I stopped attending an orthodox synagogue.
Encouraging conformity: this often emphasizes not being visibly queer, or barring that, being more visibly Jewish to “compensate” because otherwise (horror of horrors) they might “look secular” by not looking straight/cis. (This is separate from the obsession with being “seen as Jewish” you see on Jumblr, but that’s too much to unpack here.)
General Jewish Chauvinism (on a spectrum of spelling “xtianity”, saying “Yoshke” instead of “Jesus” to overt racism). Instead of being framed as “leaving orthodoxy” it’s framed as “assimilation” if you’re not a particular kind of Jewish.
Zionism: ideally religious zionism because it’s harder to deconstruct something that’s both a religious and political belief, but support for Israel is encouraged both because the orthodox establishment does, but also because it keeps people in. If you think anyone who doesn’t support Israel is an anti-semite, that keeps you isolated.
The Internalized Orthodox Gaze™ (not my term but it’s excellent). This is the idea that all Judaism should be measured by orthodoxy. Not only are there many variants within orthodoxy, it fundamentally prevents people from self-theologizing because they always refer back to orthodoxy for approval.
Anyway, these are all things you see in both orthodoxy and orthodox-adjacent communities.
I don’t know who you are, anon, but if you like data, this survey on people leaving modern orthodoxy is very interesting. It was conducted by an orthodox Jewish org, but in this case it provides background that liberal Jewish or non-Jewish researchers might not think to ask: http://nishmaresearch.com/assets/pdf/Report_Modern_Orthodox_Survey_of_Those_Who_Have_Left_Nishma_Research_July_2016.pdf
Thanks for asking!

THE HIEROPHANT REVERSED = GO WITHIN AND COME UP WITH YOUR OWN BELIEFS. STOP ASKING THE MULTIVERSE FOR TRUTH. TELL THE MULTIVERSE YOUR TRUTH AND IT SHALL BE. YOUR OWN TRUTH IS THE ONLY TRUTH THAT MATTERS. BE A CREATOR. BE GOD.
In its most empowering manifestation, The Hierophant Reversed urges you to recognize yourself as your own guiding force. The wisdom you seek resides within, rather than relying on external sources or authority figures. You're prompted to forge your unique spiritual path, establishing your belief systems instead of conforming to others' doctrines. While this independent journey may initially feel unfamiliar, embracing self-trust and tapping into your inner wisdom will be transformative over time. Despite potential resistance from those adhering to tradition, you sense that now is the opportune moment.
With The Hierophant Reversed, seeking external validation becomes obsolete. You're prepared to venture solo, carving out your path, even if it means diverging from conventional norms. Grant yourself the freedom to rely on your internal guidance system as you shape your distinctive forward trajectory.
This reversed card also signifies a willingness to challenge established norms. You envision alternative perspectives on the world, ready to question ideas once deemed absolute truths. Rejecting rigid structures, traditions, and dogmas, you actively seek opportunities to rebel and reclaim your personal agency. If you've felt confined, restricted, or lost a sense of flexibility and freedom, now is the moment to redefine your rules.
The Hierophant Reversed invites you to scrutinize prevailing norms, encouraging an evaluation of whether they align with your values. If you've been on autopilot, conforming to societal expectations, this card prompts a realization that changes are imperative. Extending this perspective, The Hierophant Reversed can embody a rebellious spirit akin to a teenager challenging societal norms and engaging in anti-institutional activities. Potential conflicts with authorities or authoritative figures may arise as you question and redefine the established order.

Quantum Holography
Quantum holography represents a fascinating interdisciplinary field at the intersection of quantum mechanics and holography, seeking to unravel the fundamental mysteries of the universe. At its core, this concept extends traditional holography to the quantum realm, where quantum states and phenomena are explored through holographic principles. One of the central tenets of quantum holography is the holographic principle, suggesting that the information within a particular volume of space can be encoded on a lower-dimensional boundary of that space. In the quantum context, researchers delve into whether the information content of a quantum system can be intricately encoded on its boundary, offering insights into the nature of quantum reality.
A significant development within quantum holography is the AdS/CFT correspondence, proposed by Juan Maldacena. This correspondence establishes an intriguing equivalence between a gravitational theory in a higher-dimensional space (Anti-de Sitter space) and a non-gravitational conformal field theory on its boundary. The AdS/CFT correspondence has opened avenues for understanding the relationships between quantum field theory, gravity, and holography.
Quantum holography also plays a pivotal role in addressing the Black Hole Information Paradox, a longstanding puzzle concerning the conservation of information in black holes. The exploration of how quantum entanglement might encode the geometry of space-time forms a crucial aspect of quantum holography. Researchers investigate the intricate connections between entanglement structures of quantum particles and the underlying spatial arrangement, offering potential insights into the quantum nature of gravity.
String theory, which seeks to unify quantum mechanics and general relativity, is often intertwined with quantum holography. Theoretical explorations within this framework aim to understand the fundamental nature of the universe by incorporating extended entities known as strings, and holographic principles become a lens through which researchers approach the elusive quest for a unified theory.
While quantum holography is primarily theoretical, it holds the promise of revolutionizing our comprehension of quantum gravity and the fabric of space-time. The quest for experimental validation and deeper theoretical insights into the holographic nature of quantum systems continues, making quantum holography a vibrant area of exploration at the forefront of theoretical physics. For the latest developments, researchers are encouraged to delve into contemporary literature, scientific journals, and conferences in this rapidly evolving field.

Cybersecurity Maturity Model Qualification
Tumblr media
The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification is a structure as well as assessor qualification program that focuses on boosting count on measures of cyber security conformity. It helps organizations review their safety and security techniques to enhance security and also protect against cyber assaults. The certification is extensively recognized as well as offers a standard against which organizations can be judged on their cybersecurity maturity. The Cybersecurity Maturation Model Certification is an analysis structure developed by the Workplace of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition as well as Sustainment (USDAS). It identifies different methods and processes that help companies establish, preserve, as well as improve their cybersecurity capabilities. The model includes five degrees of maturation. The first 2 levels of accreditation consist of CMMC Specialist (CCP) and also CCA (Licensed Cybersecurity Assessor). Level 3 concentrates on minimizing the risks from APTs and is meant for business that collaborate with CUI on DoD's most priority programs. Click here to find the best CMMC Consultants today.
It is comparable to the old CMMC Degree 5 however is focused on decreasing the danger of cyberattacks. Degree 3 is still being refined by DoD. However, it will be based on the 110 controls in NIST SP 800-171, in addition to on additional requirements that address the growing danger of Advanced Persistent Threats. Cybersecurity Maturation Model Certification requires organizations to shield delicate information, such as FCI and also Regulated Unclassified Info. CMMC compliance is necessary for organizations collaborating with protection agreements. The level of compliance depends on the type of contract, the organization's function within the contract, as well as its access to FCI. The Cybersecurity Maturity Design Certification structure was developed by the Department of Protection (DOD) in January 2020.
Its objective is to ensure that business apply cybersecurity processes and practices. It is designed to assist organizations enhance the cybersecurity pose in their DIB supply chain. For example, companies must make use of anti-virus software program to shield delicate data and also transform passwords routinely. A key component of CMMC is process institutionalization. At the end of each level, organizations need to evaluate as well as gauge their safety controls. In Level 4, companies have to execute corrective activities and standardize processes. They must additionally create treatments based on basic guidance and communicate improvement details. CMMC will substantially change the method conformity is examined in the DIB sector.
The Cybersecurity Maturity Version Certification program was created by the Department of Defense as well as is created to help protection specialists show their cybersecurity abilities. It is a standard framework that was established with input from industry. The initial variation of the design was launched in January 2020. The goal is to ensure the safety and security of the DoD's information. By 2025, Cybersecurity Maturation Design Accreditation will certainly be a demand for DoD providers. It will supply a way to confirm information safety methods as well as make sure the safety and security of regulated unclassified info and also government contracts. In the meanwhile, the Protection Industrial Base will certainly take advantage of voluntary analyses to guarantee that their providers fulfill these needs. This link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberwarfare, will open up your minds even more on this topic.

this is a sentiment ive seen being spread around lately
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and this commentary on it is really important and gets at at a central issue in the framing of the “commodification” of certain aesthetics and cultural identity subsets
Tumblr media
how do you signify your belonging to an aesthetic category or subculture? materially, what does that mean? how much does construction of individual selfhood depend on consumerism? cultural rebellion without a threat to the economic structure, which in fact depends on the economic structure and commodity form to properly signify identification with cultural rebellion, is not radical. it is almost unavoidable to put yourself in one of these identity categories, but its not radical.
the documentary century of the self is very illuminating on this issue, as well as on the history of the rise of advertising and the modern conception of the self. i really recommend the whole thing but part 3 specifically deals with the incorporation of “anti establishment culture” into the fabric of modern consumer capitalism. it makes sense on its own but all 4 parts are on youtube.

"In the 1960s, a radical group of psychotherapists challenged the influence of Freudian ideas, which lead to the creation of a new political movement that sought to create ‘new people’, free of the psychological conformity that had been implanted in people’s minds by business and politics. This episode shows how this idea rapidly developed in America through “self-help movements”, into the irresistible rise of the expressive self: the Me Generation. Soon, American corporations realised that this new self was not a threat, but their greatest opportunity. It was in their interest to encourage people to feel they were unique individuals and then sell them ways to express that individuality. To do this, they turned to the techniques developed by Freudian psychoanalysts, to manipulate the inner desires of the new self."

Until recently, the hard sciences proved impregnable to political propaganda and to Soviet-style boycotts and censorship. Not anymore.Op-ed.
From college campuses to medical and mental health professionals, people whose careers are rooted in inquiry and fact are falling over each other to condemn Israel for last month's defensive war against Hamas – and in dreadfully uniform language.
I don't know how to stop the lies about Israeli "massacres" when that lie has now been amplified by professors at so many universities, by the media, by students, as well as in medical and scientific journals.
Physicians, both clinicians and scientific researchers, have also become politicized. According to a surgeon-friend: "I had to quit my women physician Facebook group because of rabid antisemitism in the guise of pro-Palestinian humanism. We formed a separate group called 'physicians against antisemitism that quickly got 1,500 members."'
According to Michael Vanyukov, a geneticist and a professor of pharmaceutical sciences, psychiatry, and human genetics at the University of Pittsburgh:
"I left the totalitarian anti-Semitic Soviet Union 30 years ago...little did I know that the scientific society I would soon join in the United States—Behavior Genetics Association (BGA)...would bring back memories of my old unlamented country. I recently learned that the company's executive committee expressed support for BLM. I was shocked. Not only does BGA have no business getting engaged in partisan politics but the BLM attacks on Jewish institutions were not random...unsurprisingly, the BLM leaders also describe themselves as 'trained Marxists.' Endorsing BLM – a racist Jew-hating group – returns genetics to its ugly history page of ignorance."
To his enormous credit, Vanyukov resigned. Makes perfect sense. We are undergoing the most profound degradation of both experts and of expertise.
For example, in 2010, The Lancet, once a premier journal of medicine, blamed Israel for the alleged increase of "wife beating" in Gaza.
These researchers failed to disclose that their study was funded by the Palestinian National Authority and their data was collected by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics. Further, they establish no baseline comparison with domestic violence in Egypt, Syria, and Saudi Arabia, countries which are not occupied by Israel or the West.
And amid the latest conflict, it published a letter May 19 from Issam Awadallah, of the "Shifa Medical Complex, in Gaza, Palestine." He claims that "this open-air enclave has been under siege for the past 14 years which has left the health system jeopardized by limited resources, failing equipment, and many essential drugs in dangerously low supply."
Blaming Israel for this state of affairs, when fortunes of money are given to Gaza only to disappear into attack tunnel infrastructure while Israel allows all medical imports, is unbalanced and untrue. Every failing in Gaza's infrastructure is due to the Hamas leadership, which has spent 14 years prioritizing its desire to kill Israeli civilians above the basic needs of Palestinian Arabs.
Awadallah repeats Hamas propaganda, including early, inaccurate, and out-of-context Palestinian casualty counts, including children.
The Lancet's role providing a platform for anti-Israel politics is not new. Some Lancet researchers fail to disclose that their funding comes from pro-Palestinian groups, such as Medical Aid for Palestinians and the pro-Palestinian Norwegian Aid Committee, organizations that are hostile to Israel.
What's newsworthy is that, despite pointed rebuttals by the president of the Israel Medical Association and other leading scientists – the Lancet's bias has persisted. Its allegedly "medical" and "scientific" articles routinely cite false information and in a way that conforms to the Hamas-created "lethal narrative" that's been adopted by the Western media.
Even when Lancet's authors are dealing with strictly medical issues in Gaza, they still refer, at least once, to the "oPt," aka, "occupied Palestinian territory" – and this remained true even after Israel unilaterally withdrew from Gaza.
After publishing an article that condemns Israel-only for suffering in Gaza, The Lancet then goes on to publish an equal number of letters which support and oppose said article. The pro-fact articles have often been published after a struggle and a delay.
What can we say about the once reliable Scientific American, which has now published an article which focuses solely on the "raging mental health crisis," but only in Gaza – not in Israel?
The article, written by psychiatrist Yasser Abu Jamei, the director of the Gaza Community Mental Health program, is accompanied by a photo of people amidst rubble, together with civil defense workers, in the "aftermath of an Israeli bombing raid." Abu Jamei refers to post traumatic stress symptomatology among Palestinian children as a result of Israel's "11-day offensive on the people of the Gaza Strip."
Abu Jamei does not mention the number of casualties and trauma created when hundreds of Hamas rockets fell short and landed on top of Gazans. He has not a word for the mental health issues in Israel due to Hamas's shelling (approximately 20,000 rockets since 2004) of Israeli cities, especially in southern Israel. Abu Jamei cites Gazan "children with poor concentration," "bed-wetting," "irritability," and "night terrors." (We know this is true for the children of southern Israel.)
Amazingly, Abu Jamei cites similarly inaccurate figures just as The Lancet did: "At least 242 people were killed in Gaza including 66 children, 38 women (four pregnant), and 17 elderly people." Not a single terrorist-combatant among them! Further, Abu Jamei saw "six hospitals and 11 clinics (that were) damaged." Not a word about whether Hamas had offices or stored weapons there. Not a word about Hamas's refusal to protect its civilians or its penchant for using them as human shields merely for propaganda purposes. In fact, Hamas is not mentioned at all.
But Hamas chief Yahya al-Sinwar admitted that his terrorist organization embedded its command centers and rocket launchers within civilian structures. It, he acknowledged, is "problematic." And as the names of the dead emerge, we find out a significant proportion of them were Hamas fighters. Hamas said it lost 80 fighters. Israel estimates the number as more than 100.
The head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), in a striking moment of candor, said Israel's bombings in Gaza were "precise."
For acknowledging this reality, Matthias Schmale had to apologize and was removed from his assignment.
On campus, meanwhile, a wing of the union representing "25,000 faculty and staff at City University of New York" voted last week to "condemn the massacre of Palestinians by the Israeli state" and demand the school "divest from all companies that aid in Israeli colonization, occupation, and war crimes." At Princeton University, dozens of students, faculty, staff and alumni signed onto an "Open Letter in Support for Palestine."
The poisoned propaganda trickles down to public grade and high school teachers. For example, the Los Angeles Teachers Union hopes to vote on a resolution in September that would "urge the U.S. government to end all aid to Israel. As public school educators in the United States have a special responsibility to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people... because of the $3.8 billion annually that the U.S. government gives to Israel, thus directly using our tax dollars to fund apartheid and war crimes."
Quite ironically, the Los Angeles Board of Education has just made a $30 million deal with Apple to distribute iPads to its students. Yet, a major supplier is using "forced labor from thousands of Uighur (Muslim) workers to make parts for Apple products." Those Uighurs also are subject to torture and held in internment camps where they are "indoctrinated to disavow Islam" by the Chinese government, a new Amnesty International report finds.
No boycott of China is proposed by the union.
The San Francisco teachers union has already called for "essentially the same actions" targeting Israel.
More than 20 years ago, a handful of us saw the tsunami of anti-Israel propaganda coming our way.
We were not heard. Actually, we were heard, and therefore, we were defamed, mocked, censored, and forced to publish in ever-smaller venues, knocked out of the mainstream media. Some of us were fired from our academic jobs.
And now the tsunami is upon us. The incoming president of Psychologists for Social Responsibility of the American Psychological Association is Lara Sheehi. She specializes in "decolonization" and, although she is not an expert in Middle East history, geography, or religion, describes herself as strongly pro-Palestine.
As usual, the propaganda has swiftly unleashed mini-pogroms and major pogroms against Jews around the world. In the diaspora, civilian Jews have no IDF to defend them.
Kathryn Wolf published an article in Tablet in which she eloquently described her "screams" about antisemitism in Durham, N.C. falling "on deaf ears." She concludes, correctly:
"If I have learned anything, it is this: The cavalry is not coming. We are the cavalry."
Phyllis Chesler is an Emerita Professor of Psychology and Women's Studies at the City University of New York (CUNY), and the author of 20 books, including Women and Madness, and A Family Conspiracy: Honor Killings. She is a Senior IPT Fellow, and a Fellow at MEF and ISGAP.

6/22 The Hierophant – Goro Takemura
Tumblr media
In Game
The Hierophant symbolizes a respect for tradition. It represents one who tries to maintain the established order, even though their very character is shaped by it. The Hierophant places his faith in institutions – for the alternative is pure chaos. Only by placing his faith in order can he draw strength.
Location
The Hierophant is right next to the white gate, located close to where V and Takemura meet Oda in Japantown.
Zodiac Sign : Taurus
The Hierophant is assigned to the zodiac sign Taurus because The Hierophant conveys a carefulness, and certain deliberateness, those same qualities can be found in the sign of Taurus.
Misty’s Reading (After the Heist 2/2) - Reversed
“But watch out. A reversed Hierophant lurks in the darkness. He brings crisis both in life and authority, rebellion and fanaticism… he is a grave threat.”
In Tarot
UPRIGHT: Spiritual wisdom, religious beliefs, conformity, tradition, institutions
REVERSED: Personal beliefs, freedom, challenging the status quo
The Hierophant is the masculine counterpart to the High Priestess. He is also known as the Pope or the Teacher in other Tarot decks and is ruled by Taurus.
The Hierophant is a religious figure sitting between two pillars of a sacred temple – though this temple differs from the one in which the High Priestess sits. He wears three robes – red, blue and white – and a three-tiered crown, both representing the three worlds over which he rules (the conscious, sub-conscious and super-conscious). In his left hand, he holds the Papal Cross, a triple sceptre that signifies his religious status. He raises his right hand in a religious blessing, with two fingers pointing towards Heaven and two towards Earth.
Before him kneel two followers. The Hierophant’s task is to pass down his spiritual wisdom and initiate the two into the church so they can take up their appointed roles. This imagery speaks to a shared group identity and a rite of passage to enter the next level. The crossed keys at the Hierophant’s feet represent the balance between the conscious and subconscious minds and the unlocking of mysteries, which only he can teach.
Upright
The Hierophant card represents an established set of spiritual values and beliefs and is often correlated with religion and other formal doctrines. Before you can discover your own belief systems and make your own choices (as associated with the next card, the Lovers), the Hierophant encourages you to learn the fundamental principles from a trusted source.
Work with a teacher, mentor, or guide to teach you about spiritual values and beliefs in a structured way. He may be an authority or a kind and generous mentor who nurtures your spiritual awareness and helps you access the Divine by understanding the traditions and core principles. You may also undertake a period of formal study as you delve into a subject that has been widely explored and documented.
If you have already mastered a particular field of study, you may be taking on the role of teacher and mentor to others. In this position, you honour and acknowledge your responsibility to share your knowledge in a structured way, one that respects the age-old traditions.
The Hierophant‘s arrival suggests you are following convention and staying within the bounds of a ‘tried and tested’ model. You are not yet willing to go out on a limb or offer any new and innovative ideas. Instead, you adhere to the key principles and rules that you know will lead to a successful result.
The Hierophant may call you to honour family traditions or sacred rituals that sit neglected. You are being asked to commit to spiritual practice in its most wholesome form – no customisation, no adaptation, no bending the rules. If you have been lacking ritual and tradition, create a regular practice such as daily prayer or saying grace before a meal. Consider exploring your spiritual or religious heritage.
The Hierophant Tarot card often speaks to group membership or being part of an institution. You may enjoy a deep sense of comfort being surrounded by people who have well-established belief systems and explicit values. Finding them may be as significant as exploring a new church or religious group, or as simple as joining a gym or online Tarot community. This card is about identifying with others and a way of thinking that will prompt further learning.
Reversed
In its most positive form, the reversed Hierophant reminds you that you are your own teacher. All the wisdom you seek comes from within – not from some external source or power. You are being guided to follow your own path and adopt your own spiritual belief systems rather than blindly following others’. It may feel unsettling at first as you make your own way, but over time, you will learn to trust yourself and tap into your inner knowledge. Others may question your motivations to go against tradition, but you know deep within that now is the time.
With the reversed Hierophant, you no longer need external approval to succeed. You are ready to go it alone and do it your way, even if that means going against convention. Give yourself permission to trust your inner guidance system as you create your own path forward.
The Hierophant reversed is also about challenging the status quo. You see alternative ways of viewing the world and are ready to test the very ideas and concepts you were taught were the ‘truth’. You no longer accept the rigid structures, tradition and dogma surrounding you; instead, you seek out opportunities to rebel and reclaim your personal power. If you feel restricted or constrained and have lost your sense of freedom and flexibility, now is the time to make your own rules.
The reversed Hierophant encourages you to examine ‘the way we do things around here’ and ask yourself whether it aligns with your values. You may have been running on autopilot so far and following the crowd, but now you see that changes need to be made. Taken further, the Hierophant reversed is like a rebellious teenager who begins to question society and take part in anti-institutional activities. There may be a run-in with authorities or conflict with a parent or authoritative figure.

Finish sector centers lie in city locations like Chicago, Cleveland, Louisville, Northern New Jersey, The Golden State, Florida, and also Washington State.Coatings are vital products for the defense of a great wide variety of end-uses.5 Bn in 2020. In building coatings, siliconized polyester resins are enhancing in popularity because of the superior durability they offer over standard non-silicone-containing resins, as well as at a decreased expense compared to fluoropolymers, according to Alex Yahkind, AkzoNobel R&D senior scientist, Global Modern technology Group.Their schedule has actually enhanced the variety of finishing solutions that can gain from the enhanced homes, according to supervisor of Business Development Charles Olsen.
Arkema has established two novel rheology modifiers that fulfill the certain requirements of even more complicated covering products: simpler activation and reliable performance in hot-spray applications.Silicone resins utilized in material blends typically replace 5-- 15% of the existing resin.Advances in silicone chemistry are aiding to conquer the preliminary resistance of formulators to make use of silicones in a growing variety of paint as well as layer applications.Rheology modifiers are contributed to repaint as well as finish formulas to regulate their flow as well as leveling homes, which can be an obstacle in basic water-based formulas and specifically hard for solvent-free systems and finishings applied under stressful conditions.A minimally changed or unmodified silicone polymer, fluorocarbon or perhaps hydrocarbon is the most effective method to accomplish this surface effect. As a whole, amphiphilic molecules, derived from hydrocarbon-based hydrophobic groups, can reduce liquid surface area stress from distilled water's 72 mN/m right into the 30 mN/m range. The anti-microbial residential property of these additives is beneficial in countless applications.Coating formulators need to take into consideration the pigment bundle in addition to exactly how these materials influence the last finishings' performance.Gloss enhancement from additives is usually a result of improved circulation and also leveling. An also, defect-free layer has a high distinctness of image (DOI)5 permitting one to see the gloss of the resin to its maximum impact. Style is the largest application of finishing additives, which boost the quality of constructing structures for a longer duration, which lowers the intermittent maintenance of the structure. The finish additives industry is a vibrant as well as vital part of the United States economy. The nation's finishings additives market is generally driven by increasing financial investment in the domestic construction segment as well as growing demand for renovating the old buildings. It was discovered that the gloss retention of the most effective doing systems amounts to that of commercial systems appropriate for exterior applications. In conformity with international trends and guidelines aimed at lowering VOCs many conventional products, formulators are wanting to transition to even more eco-friendly systems. Silicone ingredients are an extremely widely used kind of additive in coatings.Silicone additives (polysiloxanes) are most commonly used in coating formulations. To protect against surface area tension issues, unique additives are used. Many of them affect the surface stress of the paint and/or reduce the surface area stress differences. Brand-new items are being presented regularly to assist finish formulators attain brand-new performance attributes.Their highlight is the decrease of the surface stress of the fluid coating. The chemistry of the silicone additives as well as the relationship between chemistry and efficiency are talked about in this paper.Like other silicone based additives, its effectiveness is very high at very low focus, with regular does usually well below 1% based upon total formulation.A Y-o-Y growth comparison on popular market sections, in addition to market good looks analysis, has actually been incorporated in the record. Outside coating additives manufacturer are handling raising significance for the security of steel, plastic, and wood structures internationally, according to Mervin Wood, technological specialist of Efficiency Additives with BASF.Current work has revealed significantly increased stability, specifically for water-based systems.Utilised in finishing formulations, multifunctional additives use a performance level comparable to that of specific additives with minimized price, streamlined developing process, high efficiency of aqueous remedies, and also compliance with safety and security standards.Rheology modifiers are included in repaint as well as coating formulations to regulate their circulation as well as leveling buildings, which can be a difficulty in basic water-based solutions and specifically hard for solvent-free systems as well as finishings used under demanding conditions. He notes that the designation of "hyperfunctional" is based on the considerably better degree of performance added to the polymer compared to other useful additives. In the powder layers sector, circulation promoters are separated into 2 major categories relying on the solid provider made use of for distributing the liquid energetic material, the additives distributed on silica and those spread on polyester material (so called masterbatch). Both contain a liquid acrylic additive, which is the energetic substance distributed on a solid matrix that can be either silica powder or polyester resins. The water-borne layers sector is estimated to produce around half of the total demand for layer additives. It is used for small or shut locations and also does not cause any damaging emissions.Volatility in rates of resources such as silicones, urethane, and also acrylate on account of ever-changing petrochemical prices and also supply-demand bottlenecks is expected to present difficulties to market participants in terms of rates, end-product supply, and also profitability.Coating ingredients are used in building and construction paints to enhance effect resistance, viscosity, and also surface effectiveness of substrates.Wetting agents and circulation and also leveling agents are similar chemical responses and vary mostly in the point of view or the issue being solved. One solution to overcoatability is to add a surfactant to the following fluid layer.

A philosophical anti-essentialism is so central to how I understand myself in the world as a trans person that it’s mind-boggling to see other trans folks who aren’t truscum/transmed/whatever who still hold onto essentialist ideas about gender & identity.
So here’s the basics:
1. Existentialism. There is no essence, or at least, essence does not, as the classical philosophers held, precede existence. This means that things exist before ideas about them or their purpose exist (what Plato calls “forms”). We find ourselves in a certain set of conditions and we ascribe meaning to those circumstances, not the other way around.
2. Gender is Not Real. Gender exists in our world sort of the way that the forms existed for platonic philosophers: as abstractions that are unattainable yet supposedly desirable. No one can fully conform to everyone’s expectations of what it means to be a man or a woman, and no one can really claim authority on knowing what those categories entail. Even radfems who fall back on “biology” (as a defense of what is basically gender, even though they wouldn’t call it that) don’t really have definitive answers when it comes to, say, intersex people.
3. Gender is a System of Control. If gender can never be fully realized, why do people try to conform to it? The answer is that gender is a method of imposing behavioral norms on people based on the role power structures want them to play in things like reproduction and the institution of family. Presenting people with established roles, appearances, and activities based on notions of gender (and punishing them for nonconformity to these things) makes them easier to control.
4. Gender is Enforced both Externally and Internally. The enforcement of near-ubiquitous systems like this will involve just about every aspect of society. Gender norms are imposed by authority figures, of course, but also by peers and even by the individual upon themself. We grow up in a gendered society, and in order to escape the punishment not only dished out for deviancy, but for the perceived deviancy of anyone who questions this system, we learn to internalize gender, both conforming to it and adopting its logic. We police ourselves, even internally, in how we talk, look, act, and think.
5. Being Trans is Not a Discovery. Since there is no essence and gender is just a set of imposed ideas, being trans is not discovering the essence of a different gender within yourself. This social system of gender is hostile to the variety of human experiences because it imposes monolithic ideas about behavior and appearance upon people. Because of this, many (if not all) people will have hostile encounters with gender throughout their lives. Transness is a particular response to these encounters: a way of taking control of your body and your perceptions of it.
6. “Dysphoria” is Not an Internal Issue. Gender, among many social systems, forces us to understand our bodies as symbols of a deeper, essential identity. What psychiatric professionals call dysphoria is a feeling of discontinuity between what the body symbolizes and what we would like it to symbolize. Part of this, of course, is the way that we are perceived by others, behaviorally and in appearance. But it also extends to the way that we perceive our own bodies and even believe (whether consciously or not) our essence to be. From a young age in a world of essentialism, we conceive of essence (with regards to gender) as related to many things: at the most shallow level, appearance and voice, but at a deeper level, behavior, social roles, and “biological factors” like hormones can become divining rods for essence. Transmeds engage in this kind of practice all the time, establishing standards by which they judge the essential transness of a person. This is just a microcosm of a larger tendency that dominates a cis-normative society.
7. Complete Identity Autonomy. So rather than try and judge whether a person (yourself or someone else) really is trans, how do we respond to these issues? Understanding that identities are not a result of essences but rather socially manufactured categories, how do we navigate a society built upon identity? The answer is to demand complete control, wresting your autonomy back from everyone who will try and police you, including yourself. Foucault says (and I’m paraphrasing) that identity can be a sort of game we play, but that if we try to place bounds around it, it becomes a prison again. As trans people, I think it should be easy enough to see the ways that social demands to conform keep us imprisoned. But I think, for many people, the trans experience (if you’ll pardon me talking about it as though it were one monolithic thing) lends itself to new forms of expression, and an understanding that even as we navigate these social categories, the categories themselves and the systems that produce them are really just violent bullshit.

Vigil Cairn, Calton Hill.
An often overlooked monument on Calton Hill, but an important one.  You don’t have to be a patriot of Scotland, or indeed a supporter of the Independence movement to go and inspect it, the Cairn is the first place I learnt about the Scottish missionary Jane Haining, who, rather than save herself, decided to stay with the Jewish children she was helping in Hungary and was shipped to  Auschwitz II-Birkenau death camp and ultimately the gas chamber......
The following is from one of those that was involved with the Vigil throughout it’s years and was first published in The National in 2018.
In the 1992 General Election Scotland’s democratic deficit was exposed. Out of 62 Scottish seats the Tories only managed to get 11. But it mattered nothing as the overwhelming victory of the Tories in England guaranteed five more years of Tory rule for Scotland. We were already fed up with the greed-obsessed, destroy-the-unions and support-the -rich policies of right-wing ideologues.
As the results came out on April 11 a demonstration was quickly organised for the weekend. Originally set up by the Scottish Campaign to Resist the Atomic Menace (SCRAM) by the time they got to Edinburgh, they were met by several hundred people outside the Royal High School, on Edinburgh’s Regent Road., at the bottom of Calton Hill.
The word had gone out to anti-nuclear, Green and anti-Poll Tax groups and among the gathered crowd there was a strange combination of anger, resentment against the political system that forced us to follow the wishes of the English electorate and a feeling that something had to be done.
Initially the plan had been to carry on the protest till the following Monday but pretty soon the discussion was around the need for a more permanent protest. People knew fine well that Scotland’s voice was always ignored in Westminster – where the posh-boy ruling elites had always acted as if Scotland had been absorbed into England after the odious Treaty of Union in 1707.
There was a great deal of anger but above all was the awareness that something had to be done. There was widespread agreement and so The Vigil for A Scottish came into being.
From the beginning the plan was to maintain a vigil till the need for a Scottish Parliament representing the wishes of the Scottish Electorate was recognised.
In those first heady days people were sleeping on the pavement outside the gates of the RHS and those few hardy souls were joined by many others during the daytime
This was not led by any political group but was a spontaneous eruption of political activity that throughout all the years of its existence managed to avoid being dragged into the posturing and infighting that bedevils standard politics. Some level of organisation was however needed, especially when a fire was lit in an old oil drum that appeared at the site. This was the symbol of the will for change, a fire that would be kept alight till Scotland’s voice was heard.
And so it was that the organisation called Democracy for Scotland – still an aspiration more than two decades later – was born. A street-level gathering of environmental campaigners, anti-poll tax activists and a wide variety of concerned individuals came together to form what became known as The Vigil.
Basic organisational necessities like finding wood for the fire and making sure there was a rota that ensured a permanent presence on Regent Road – and finding enough people to fill that rota – were the order of the day. Within a few weeks of the start a weel-kent Glasgow singer donated a Portakabin that made life a great deal more comfortable for the hardy souls who were prepared to sit by the fire in all the varieties of inclement weather to which Edinburgh is so prone.
As the political reaction to the glaring democratic deficit developed, other, bigger groups like Common Cause, the suspiciously short-lived Scotland United, the Campaign for a Scottish Assembly and the Scottish Constitutional Convention all began to organise protests and other events, and The Vigil, directly opposite HQ St Andrew’s, variously referred to as Colonial HQ or the Lubianka, became the focus of many meetings.
At The Vigil there was resistance to the idea of The Vigil being dominated by any party political organisation but everyone was welcome to come along to the fire. And people came, from all over Scotland, from the Borders and Gallloway, from the Highlands and the northern isles. Some came once a month to do a shift or two while others living nearby became regulars.
However the commitment of The Vigil to decide everything by consensus was tested early doors as some experienced political activists tried to create a party structure for Democracy for Scotland. Thankfully the commitment to consensus decision-making, by whoever was around the fire at any given time, eventually ensured that DFS never became a “real” political party.
Hand in hand with the idea of consensus decision-making was a sense of fun about The Vigil – and not because it was staffed by young people. It always attracted a broad spectrum not just of political opinion but of age and background. Unemployed labourers and university lecturers, nurses and social workers, waitresses and hotel porters, bus drivers and builders – The Vigil was always a real reflection of the disparate make-up of Scottish society.
In order to publicise the cause, whole series of events were staged over its five years, including history lessons, open-air concerts at The Vigil itself and on Calton Hill, pub gigs, even a Pavement Party in the first year, timed to coincide with the Royal Garden Party at nearby Holyrood. – and some folk attended both! From the start, though there was considerable interest from the foreign and English media, only in Scotland did the media seem to be frightened of what The Vigil meant. Or perhaps they were so hide-bound in their involvement with the main political parties that they could not comprehend what The Vigil signified.
This was shown most forcefully on December 12, 1992 – the date of a vast demonstration for Scottish Home Rule that attracted more than 25,000 people on to the streets of Edinburgh. The media coverage was grudging to say the least, all the more remarkable when this is the equivalent of a quarter of a million people marching in London.
There was then a reluctance to deal with the depth of anger at the continuing lack of recognition for Scottish political dissatisfaction among the media. One point should illustrate this. The demonstration took place exactly 200 years to the day after a convention took place in Edinburgh calling for democratic reform, the result of which was a series of show trials of leading reformers, ending in deportation to Botany Bay for those selected as being ringleaders by the Establishment of the day.
The first group of those transported – known as the Scottish Political Martyrs, one of whom was Thomas Muir – have a memorial to them in the Calton Cemetery on Regent Road, though there is no plaque or other mention of this magnificent obelisk raised by public subscription in 1840.
The fact that so many Scots were echoing the demands of the Societies of Friends of the People in 1792 was not thought worthy of notice!
All of the Scottish media were informed of this remarkable anniversary but through pusillanimity or the exercise of political control saw fit to ignore it.
It wasn’t only the media who were unsure how to deal with The Vigil. The democracy march was strongly supported by The Vigil, who helped to organise it, but on the day we found ourselves excluded from the platform in the Meadows where the march ended. This wasn’t the only time this happened – the dead hand of political party influence making sure that what they couldn’t control they would ignore. The Vigil was kept going and supported by people of all political parties and persuasions but because it would not conform to others’ rules was seen as a threat. The extent of support was remarkable – one day a brand new Mercedes drew up and a well-dressed woman, yes she had blue-rinsed hair and was wearing a twin-set and pearls, came over to the Portakabin and said: “I am a lifelong Tory voter, but I think you are absolutely right that the democratic wishes of the Scottish people are not well served by the current arrangement. I think you people are doing a remarkable job and I wish you every success.”She then put a 20-pound note in The Vigil collecting tin and drove off.
That is an example of what people at The Vigil found all over Scotland. For its first anniversary, pro-democracy marchers came in from the four points of the compass to meet at The Vigil and raise the Democracy Cairn on the top of Calton Hill. The marchers, a handful that grew to a small crowd as they neared the capital, found support and friendship everywhere they went.
For that is the other thing about The Vigil – it survived on the generosity of the ordinary people of Scotland. Sure, there were T-shirts and posters and badges but most money came from collecting tins. Just as the wood to keep The Vigil fire burning was delivered by a veritable host of friends. Builders, joiners, gardeners and DIY enthusiasts all turned up – some regularly, some just once – to make their contribution, a contribution that always made those at The Vigil feel proud.
Famous and not so famous artists created sculptures andbanners, posters and artwork – much of it of a humorous bent – and many musicians and bands played for free at Vigil gatherings and ceilidhs.
I have not mentioned any of these wonderful people by name – because I believe that everyone who contributed was as important as everyone else. One or two people put in remarkable hours at The Vigil through vicious winter months, others tirelessly kept up the necessary logistic support and yet others came only once for a few hours and made their contribution as so many did by simply putting their hands in their pockets.
The personnel changed over the years, though there was a core group who stuck it out for almost the whole five years. Some people put so much effort into The Vigil they burnt themselves out. Others found love and left to build new lives – there were several Vigil babies. Others moved away and yet others found other responsibilities to fill their spare time.
In the years since The Vigil closed – on the announcement that the Scottish Parliament was going to happen – many stalwart Vigil people have passed on but their legacy can be seen in the current resurgence of the Yes movement.
Looking back it seems that The Vigil played a key part in the agitation for our parliament – not by force of numbers or even by argument, but simply by existing.
In the early 1990s the dumbing down of the British media was proceeding apace and increasingly newspaper editors wanted pictures before they would run a story.
The topic of devolution, despite the best efforts of Labour and the Tories, would not go away and partly this was because those editors always knew The Vigil was there – it was a permanent photo-op! The actual site of The Vigil fire disappeared due to road-widening many years ago, but as we carry on the fight to create true democracy, you can find the Democracy Cairn on the top of Calton Hill. And, opposite the gates of the Royal High School, the original choice for the location of a new Scottish Parliament in 1979, there is a small brass plaque.
And this I do know. In the five years that The Vigil sat it was a privilege to work alongside the many individuals who gave of their time and energy to keep the struggle going. The Vigil was never specifically nationalistic – it was about getting the parliament – but the devout wish of all who did a shift or more, that Scotland would in time be a true democratic land, is at last in sight.

Quote
not long before he died in 1969, theodor adorno told an interviewer: 'i established a theoretical model of thought. how could i have suspected that people would want to implement it with molotov cocktails?'
the first sentence of grand hotel abyss: the lives of the frankfurt school by stuart jeffries
“from its inception in 1923, the marxist research institute that became known as the frankfurt school was aloof from party politics and sceptical about political struggle. its leading members--theodor adorno, max horkheimer, herbert marcuse, erich fromm, friedrich pollock, franz neumann, and jurgen habermas--were virtuosic at critiquing the viciousness of fascism, and capitalism’s socially eviscerating, spiritually crushing impact on western societies, but not so good at changing what they critiqued.”
“in his 1969 paper ‘marginalia to theory and praxis,’ adorno noted that a student had his room destroyed because he preferred to work rather than take part in student protests. someone had even scrawled on his wall: ‘whoever occupies himself with theory without acting practically is a traitor to socialism.’”
“that paradox, the oppressive call for liberating action, made adorno and many others of the frankfurt school queasy. jurgen habermas called it ‘left facism,’ and adorno, his former teacher, saw in it the rise of a grisly new mutation of the authoritarian personality that had thrived in nazi germany and stalinist russia.”
“what is striking about adorno’s critical thinking in 1969 is that he took the authoritarian personality type that thrived under hitler and its attendant spirit of conformism to be alive and well in the new left and the student movement. both postured as anti-authoritarian but replicated the repressive structures they ostensibly sought to overthrow. ‘those who protest most vehemently,’ wrote adorno, ‘are similar to authoritarian personalities in their aversion to introspection.’”
“now was not the time for the easy posturing of action, but for the hard work of thinking...theory was...principled withdrawal into a fortress of thought, a citadel from which, periodically, radical jeremiads were issued. for adorno, thinking rather than sit-ins and barricades was the true radical act. ‘whoever thinks, offers resistance; it is more comfortable to swim with the current, even when one declares oneself to be against the current.’”
“certainly, the frankfurt school over which adorno prevailed as the leading intellectual force venerated theory as offering the only space in which the prevailing order could be indicted, if not overthrown. theory retained--unlike everything tainted by exposure to the real, fallen world--its lustre and its untameable spirit...this was where the frankfurt school felt most comfortable--instead of getting caught up in delusive revolutionary euphoria, they preferred to retreat into a non-repressive intellectual space where they could think freely.”
“if critical theory means anything, it means the kind of radical re-thinking that challenges what it considers to be the official versions of history and intellectual endeavour.”
