After their argument Y/N was avoiding Jack as best she could. Only seeing him at the dojo.
When they walked in that following Monday, there was a pile of concrete rubble in front of the others.
“I’m going to get a smoothie.” Eddie grumbled, “Hey, Y/N.”
“Hey, Eddie.” Y/N greeted
There was a muffled flushing and then plunging noise coming from Rudy’s office.
“No, don’t you die on me! It’s not your time!” Rudy’s muffled voice insisted
“What’s going on in there?” Milton asked
“Rudy’s fighting with his toilet again.”Y/N sighed, walking up a rapping on the door, “Rudy stop plunging Myrtle!”
He stumbled out of his office in full plumber gear, “Poor Myrtle, I almost lost her. Twice I had to plunge her back to life!”
“How do you know if a toilet’s a boy or a girl?” Jerry asked
Rudy gestured, “Well, you take the top off the tank and reach your arm in and feel around-”
“Stop!” Milton insisted, “I think I’d rather hear about this in an awkward conversation with my father!”
“Rudy, focus!” Kim snapped, “The new owner of the mall is gonna be here any minute!”
Eddie ran in, “Hey! You guys gotta check this out! These brochures are all over the place! This new owner is making some big changes!”
Y/N took the pamphlet from him and glanced over it.
Kim looked, “Hey! They finally took the baby changing area out of the food court! And if you ask me, that was a big step in the right direction!”
“No way!” Eddie exclaimed, “They’re bringing in a Captain Corndog!”
“Oh snap! That’s a classy joint!” Jerry said, “Yeah, my sister got married in a Captain Corndog! The captain walked her down the plank himself!”
“Look at that huge new parking lot!” Milton pointed out
Y/N took the pamphlet back, “Where’s the dojo?”
Eddie looked over her shoulder, “There’s a parking lot where our dojo should be!”
Y/N sat down on a bench and kept looking over the pamphlet. There was no other area for the dojo. It wasn’t just being moved, it was being destroyed. After a while, Kim sat down next to her.
“What are we going to do?” Y/N asked
Kim shrugged, “Rudy will figure something out.”
Rudy had headed into the locker room to change to meet the new owners. And he came out soon after, looking way more presentable. Not five minutes later, the new owner strolled in with a boy who seemed to be the rest of the group's age.
Rudy stepped forward extending his hand, “Mr.Turner! Welcome to my dojo!”
Mr.Turner smiled, “Nice to meet you, Rudy! This is my son, Arthur!”
“Hello, sir!” The boy said, eagerly shaking Rudy’s hand, “What a wonderful dojo you have here! Let me ask you: How do you do it? A sensei, a businessman, and obviously a male model!”
Rudy got flustered, “Uh, yeah... I don’t know-totally, it’s-well- Look at me!”
“Arthur, go make some friends while Rudy and I talk!” Mr.Turner told his son
Arthur smiled, “Yes, daddy! You and Rudy go have a good talk, alright? I’ll just be out here with the gang!”
Mr.Turner and Rudy went into Rudy’s office. As soon as the door shut, Arthur’s entire demeanor shifted. Jack was the first to greet him.
“Hey, I’m Jack. How ya doing?”
“So!” Arthur interjected, “What do you losers do all day around this dump?Sit around and pretend to know karate?”
He punctuated his sentence by flailing his arms around.
Jerry puffed his chest, “Pretend to know karate? Check this out,”
Jerry readied himself, and Y/N finally stepped forward to join the group. Jerry stepped back.
“Go ahead, show him Jack!”
Jack rolled his eyes, but turned to a practice dummy. The group started cheering him on. He did a roundhouse kick and knocked the head off the dummy. Arthur rolled his eyes, he glanced at Y/N and smirked.
“That was nothing!” Arthur insisted, “You guys want to see some real karate moves?”
He took the bow staff from Milton.
“Watch this!” He proclaimed
He swung it around wildly while shrieking. Y/N looked away out of embarrassment. He broke one of the trophies.
“Uh oh.” He panicked, before throwing the bow staff back to Milton
Rudy and Mr.Turner emerged from the office.
“What was that?” Rudy demanded
“I can’t believe it, sir! That kid just busted up all your trophies!” Arthur lied
“Milton you are in big trouble!” Rudy scolded
Jack stepped forward, “What? It wasn’t Milton, it was Arthur!”
“Oh,” Rudy softened, “Well, accidents happen. And thank you for showing us what a dangerous place that is to keep trophies! Now, everyone give our newest member Arthur a big Bobby Wasabi welcome!”
Mr.Turner started clapping and so did Jerry. Y/N slowly joined in to not seem rude. Meanwhile the rest were just standing there, in shock.
The next day, Kim was whaling on a practice dummy as Eddie held it. He groaned as he let go of it.
“Kim, take it easy!” Eddie whined
Kim sighed, “Sorry, I’m just tired of being looked at as just another pretty face.”
Jerry nodded, “Welcome to my world, sister!”
“I mean, what’s the point of being a reporter for the school TV station if Margaret Bork just thinks I’m some airhead southern belle who can’t do real news?” Kim vented
Arthur came in laughing, dragging Jack along with him. Y/N glanced their way as they hit a training dummy again.
“OH, you guys should have seen what we just did!” Arthur cackled, “It was a riot! It was like taking candy from a baby!”
Jack rolled his eyes, “That’s what you actually did, Arthur. You took candy from a baby.”
Y/N laughed, Jack glared at her.
“Hey, uh, can I get in on that?” Jerry asked before taking a piece of licorice, “Thanks, nothing tastes better than something stolen from a baby!”
Jack stormed off into Rudy’s office, and the others went back to what they were doing. Y/N approached Arthur.
“Hey,” She greeted
He seemed surprised, “Oh, uh, hey.”
She nodded at the licorice, “Can I steal a piece?”
He nodded and handed her one. Y/N bit a piece off and chuckled as she chewed.
“What’s so funny?” Arthur asked
Y/N shook their head, “I just think it’s funny that you got Jack to just stand there while you nabbed this.”
“It’s not like he was gonna do anything,” Arthur replied
“So true.” Y/N chuckled, “Hey, do you wanna go get something to eat?”
He seemed even more surprised at that but nodded. Y/N smiled and grabbed their things.
Jerry quirked a brow, “Where are you going?”
“Arthur and I are going to get something to eat.” Y/N replied as they headed for the door where Arthur was waiting
After the two had left Jack came out of Rudy’s office. When he didn’t see Arthur or Y/N he immediately approached Kim.
“Where did Y/N go?” Jack demanded
Kim looked at him, “She went to get something to eat with Arthur.”
His face got slightly red, “She can’t do that!” Kim turned on him, “Why can’t she!” “None of us likes him!” Jack tried to defend, “She can’t just take hiim out on a date or whatever!”
“So, you’re jealous?”
“No, I am not jealous!”
“You so are.”
“I so am not!”
Kim chuckled, “Whatever, Jack.”
Meanwhile, Y/N and Arthur were sitting at a table in Falafel Phil’s laughing. Y/N took the wrapper off their straw half-way and blew through to shoot the other half at Arthur.
“So, let me get this right?” Arthur chuckled, “You and the pasty kid sumo wrestled a professional sumo wrestler because you felt guilty?”
“Oh yeah,” Y/N affirmed, “I had a bruised back for like a week. Milton had to help me down stairs.” Arthur perked up, “Oh! I got you guys a gift, do you want to see?”
Y/N nodded and Arthur pulled out his phone, showing them the new pristine practice dummy he had ordered and was meant to get to the dojo the next day.
“That’s really nice Arthur!” Y/N complimented
They checked their watch, “I have to go, but we have to do this again sometime! I’ll see you tomorrow!”
Y/N left with a wide smile on their face. On their way out they ran into Jerry, who was also heading home.
“Hey,” Jerry greeted
“Hey,” Y/N replied
“How was your date?”
Y/N smacked his shoulder, “It wasn’t a date! And it was good. Arthur isn’t too bad.”
The two parted ways, to go home. The next day, when Y/N entered the dojo Arthur was sitting there with the new dummy. The rest of the group exited the locker room. And Arthur stood, shooting Y/N a smile.
“What’s this?” Jack asked
“It’s a gift!” Arthur answered, “I know I’ve been a little bit of a jerk.”
“A little bit of a jerk?” Jack asked, “That’s like saying Jerry’s a little bit confused.”
“What?” Jerry asked, “Wait, what did I miss? I’m confused.”
“He’s trying to be nice, Jack.” Y/N snapped
Arthur smiled at her, “Look, to show that I’m not all bad, I got you guys this brand new state of the art punching dummy!”
“You know what, Arthur?” Jack said, “Maybe I had you wrong. If Y/N trusts you, I guess I do too.”
“Now that’s more like it!” Jerry cheered, “I think I should be the one to break this bad boy in!”
Jerry punched it in the face and the stomach opened letting out a spring punch. Y/N went to his side instantly.
“Oh my god, Jerry are you okay?” Y/N asked
Jack and Kim helped Jerry off the floor as Y/N rounded on Arthur.
“What the hell,Arthur?” Y/N shouted, “I gave you the benefit of the doubt! I thought you were alright! And now you do this!”
She punctuated every sentence with a poke to his chest.
Jack stepped forward, “Alright, that’s it-”
Kim stopped him, “No, Jack, you promised Rudy... but I didn’t.”
Eddie stopped Kim, “No, Kim, I want him all to myself.”
Milton stopped Eddie, “No, Eddie, this one’s all me.”
Milton turned on Arthur, then back to the rest of the group.
“Wait, why can’t Jack do this?” Milton pleaded
Y/N glared at Arthur, “It’s fine guys, let’s just start practice.”
Jack looked at her, and her eyes pleaded with him. Until he nodded in agreement. Arthur pushed Y/N out of the way.
“Woah, woah, woah, Jack!” Arthur prodded, “ I got this! Since Rudy’s not around and I outrank everyone, I’ll lead the class!”
“Are you nuts?” Eddie demanded, “You don’t outrank Jack!”
“Really? See, I don’t know if you noticed...” Arthur taunted, “But, I’m a green belt!”
“Yeah,” Kim snapped, “Because your daddy bought it for you.”
Arthur stepped forward, “Jack, you don’t know anything about karate. You’re nothing but a scrawny little skate rat.”
“Arthur, would you just shut up?” Y/N demanded
Jack glowered at Arthur, “And you’re nothing but a spoiled little poser.”
The group chuckled at that.
“Poser, huh?” Arthur snapped, “That’s it.”
Arthur ran at Jack.
“Jack don’t!” Y/N insisted
But, Jack hadn’t heard her and had already thrown him into the wall.
“You’re gonna be sorry you did that!” Arthur shouted
Not a moment later Rudy and Mr.Turner entered the dojo.
“What’s going on?” Mr.Turner demanded
“It’s a good thing you’re here, dad!” Arthur cried, “I was just saying my prayers and eating my vitamins when Jack threw me into this wall!”
Mr.Turner turned to Rudy, “We had a deal, Rudy! You said this was a warm, safe environment where Arthur could learn karate and make friends!”
“Jack!” Rudy stumbled, “Did you throw Arthur into our wall of friendship?”
The group hesitantly nodded and agreed with what he said. Rudy ran to the wall and helped Arthur out of it.
“They don’t do that to just anyone!” Rudy insisted, “They must really like you! Don’t you, Jack?”
Y/N stepped forward, “It wasn’t Jack’s fault. Arthur came at him first.”
Jack looked at Y/N with thanks in his eyes.
“He came at Jack, Jack came at him, it’s a big coming atcha party!” Rudy continued, “Alright, back to practice you lovable, scamps!”
“Rudy,” Mr.Turner snapped, “This is unacceptable, I want Jack and Y/N thrown out of your dojo!”
Y/N turned on her heel to look at the two. Glancing quickly at Jack, who was also frozen in shock.
“What?” They all asked
Arthur smirked, “Buh-bye, Jack and Y/N”
Rudy stood his ground, “I’m sorry, Mr.Turner, but that’s not gonna happen.”
“Alright then,” Mr.Turner stepped forward, “You have two hours to get out. You’re standing on the site of my new parking lot. Come on, son.”
Arthur was ushered out of the dojo by Mr.Turner. Tears brimmed Y/N’s eyes, one way or another she was losing this dojo. Rudy argued with his toilet for a second.
Jack and Y/N decided to kick themselves out. Rudy stopped Jack.
“Put your stuff back, you’re not leaving.” Rudy insisted
Jack sighed, “If we don’t go, you guys lose the dojo.”
“We lose it either way.” Y/N said, “We’re not going to take it away from you guys.”
Rudy placed his hands on one of each of their shoulders.
“No, you;re not going.Sometimes in life, a man has to decide what’s really important,” Rudy said, two men started to carry his toilet away, “Oh hey! Not the toilet, take the kids instead!”
“Rudy!” Milton protested
“I’m sorry, but you’ve never sat on her.”
Jerry stepped up, “We’re not gonna take this, man! We gotta fight the power, yo!”
Jack dropped his duffle, “Jerry’s right! We’ve got to fight back! Like that guy on Meyer Avenue!”
“He chained himself to that old tree so that it wouldn’t be cut down!” Y/N continued
Kim nodded, “He stood his ground and saved that tree!”
“Until it fell over in a storm, destroyed my Aunt Verna’s house and she had to move into my room!” Milton complained, “I’ve seen things no boy my age should see.”
“You know what, you guys are onto something!” Rudy agreed, “What Turner’s doing is wrong, and we gotta fight back!” “What are you saying, Rudy?”Jerry asked
“I’m saying they can’t tear down the dojo if I’m chained to that post!” Rudy clarified, “And I will fight the good fight for as long as it takes! So chain me up!”
The group all cheered encouragement for him.
“Get these things off of me! I can’t take it! I’m going crazy!” Rudy shrieked after he’d been chained up
“Rudy! It’s only been three minutes!” Jack replied
Kim stormed out of the side room, “Yeah, well if it’s such a great story then why not report it yourself?! That was Margaret, apparently Taco Tuesday is becoming Fajita Friday.”
“Yes!” Milton praised, “You slip the lunch lady $10 and a cat calendar and you can move mountains, baby!”
Eddie sighed, “All this talk about food is making me hungry, I’m gonna go over to Honeybuns to hook us up!”
“No!” Jerry protested, “You can’t go out there, man! That’s just what they want! You go out that door, it’s like we’ve given up!”
“Well, eventually we’re gonna need something to eat!” Kim reasoned
Eddie looked up, “You know, our air vent connects with the nail salon. Those ladies are always snacking on something.”
“Yeah!” Jack stood, “He’s right!”
Jerry nodded, “Yeah, but who’s skinny enough to fit through that vent?”
All their eyes went to Milton.
“Oh.” Milton said, before the realization hit him, “Ohhhhh!”
Milton stripped his over shirt, leaving him in a  wife beater tank top. He threw the over shirt and hit Y/N in the face with it.
“Agh! Milton!” Y/N complained
Jack and Jerry hoisted Milton up to the vent. And there was a humming noise. Y/N glanced around.
“I think the exhaust vent just turned on!” Y/N announced
“What makes you say that?” Jerry asked
Then Milton was sucked up into the vent, Jack chuckled.
“Oh nothing in particular.” Y/N continued
They all sat together, waiting for anything to happen. About half an hour later, Turner showed up. Jack was the first on his feet.
“Look, Turner just showed up with some people!” Jack pointed out
The man had a megaphone and made an announcement.
“Attention dojo squatters, you have five minutes to get out.” Turner hollered, “We are bringing in a wrecking ball.”
“You don’t scare us, Turner!” Rudy shouted, before lowering his voice, “That whole bringing in a wrecking ball routine is the oldest trick in the book!”
Y/N kept their eyes outside, “That is a very real wrecking ball.”
“What?” Rudy demanded, “Unchain me, you fools!”
“Dude, we can’t!” Jerry said, “You gave the keys to Milton!”
Rudy panicked, “What? No! It can’t end like this! I never sat in a hot tub full of pudding! No wait, yes I did... no that was custard.”
Jerry peeked outside, “Nothing brings in a crowd like a wrecking ball! They’re totally on our side. You can feel the love!”
A muffled chant of “Knock it down!” began. Jerry glared outside before sticking his head out.
“Why don’t you guys shut your pie holes!” He shouted
Y/N slumped on the ground across from Rudy. Kim stood up straight as she got an idea.
“I just realized I’m in the middle of a huge story!” Kim announced, “Five kids from our school fight a great injustice!”
Jack glanced outside, “Well you better get out there, because it looks like your friend Margaret just showed up.”
“Oh no she didn’t,” Kim stormed out, “Not today, Margaret! Not today!”
Turner pulled out his megaphone again, “In two minutes we’re turning this place into a parking lot!”
Jerry looked at the four who were left, “I’m going out there.”
Then he stepped outside.
“Alright, now I got some demands, people,” He started, “Now, we’re gonna need a big bag of cheeseburgers, some fries, some juice boxes, and throw in some of those glow in the dark straws! They make drinking fun, yo!”
A guy in the crowd shouted, “Your demands stink!”
“Bro I wasn’t finished!” Jerry whined, “And I’m also gonna need a couple of helicopters flown by supermodels!”
“Now those are some demands!” The same guy shouted
Jerry got the crowd to cheer Wasabi.
Y/N looked out the window, and saw Arthur climbing into the wrecking ball control center.
“Guys!” Y/N shouted, “Look!”
The wrecking ball started swinging around.
“I got this,” Jack insisted before running outside
Y/N was quick to follow but stayed in front of the door. They blocked it with their body, if anything was happening to this dojo they were going with it. The ball swung toward them, and they leaned back.
“Y/N get out of the way!” Jack shouted
Pushing the door in slightly as the wrecking ball lightly tapped them and the dojo. As soon as it stopped, Y/N went inside.
“That was horrifying.” Y/N gasped out as Jerry pulled them into a tight hug
“You’re insane.” Jerry replied
Turner was the next person in the door.
“Is everyone okay in here?” He asked
Rudy sighed, “Look, Turner, you win. Alright, just go ahead and take your dojo back! Put up your parking lot! But, you know what? We’re proud! And we will hold our heads high!”
Rudy lifted his arms and the chains fell from around him.
“Really?” Rudy whined, “Hands over the head, that’s all it took.”
Jack ran inside pushing Arthur in ahead of him.
“I think this belongs to you.” Jack said
Once they were both in he ran to Y/N. Doing a once over to make sure she was okay before pulling her into a bone crushing hug.
Turner rounded on his son, “Arthur, how could you do something like this? You endangered Y/N’s life! I’ve given you everything!” “Maybe that’s the problem.” Rudy said
“What do you mean?” Turner asked
“Well, this dojo might not be much,” Rudy continued, “But it’s built on the principle’s of discipline and respect. A couple of things Arthur obviously doesn’t have.”
“Blah, blah, blah,” Arthur groaned, “Look, can we just knock down the little dump now, dad?”
“No,” Turner snapped, “He’s right. I’m sorry, Rudy. Your dojo can stay.”
“Yes!” They all cheered
Jack picked Y/N up in a hug and spun them.
“Arthur, get in the car!” Turner snapped, “You’re grounded!”
Arthur quirked an eyebrow, “Grounded? What does that even mean?”
Jack smirked as he set Y/N down, “I think you’re about to find out.”
“Buh-bye, Arthur!” Y/N mocked
Turner pushed Arthur out of the dojo, leaving only the gang inside.
“Jack, what you did was incredible!” Rudy complimented
Jack shook his head, “ It wasn’t just me! We all did it!... Wait a minute, has anyone seen Milton?”
Once everything was said and done the dojo was empty. Rudy was in his office and everyone else had gone home. Y/N sat on the bench, rubbing the spot on her sternum where the wrecking ball had tapped. A few moments passed before she felt a weight next to her.
Jack glanced at her, “You shouldn’t have put yourself in harm’s way like that.”
“You jumped on top of the wrecking ball,” Y/N replied with a chuckle, “I am far from the one who was in the most danger.”
There was a moment of silence and Y/N looked at the ground.
“About what happened after the thing with Truman-” Jack started
Y/N stood, “Can we just forget that it happened? I’d rather things just go back to normal.”
Jack sunk in on himself a bit, “Yeah. Of course, yeah, it never happened.”
“Awesome. I’ll see you tomorrow, Jack.” Y/N said before leaving
Jack watched after her before mumbling under his breath, “I have a crush on you too.”

Too Many Questions
Pairing: Tommy x OC
Reader Gender Expression: Male Reader (if you don’t mind straight up characterization)
Length: 4406 words (allegedly)
Warnings: None
A/N: Very self indulgent, it’s just an idea that came to mind. I’m writing a part two because this was getting too long for a tumblr post. Part II is sappy and possibly spicy, we’ll see.
Edit: It was irking my soul that I split this piece into two parts so I combined them and now Part II doesn’t exist.
Tommy’s Betrayal
--
"What the fuck did you just say?"
Tommy's eyes snapped away from their leisurely journey tracing the lines on the man's face to his cool, unyielding brown eyes.
"Do you keep thinking about her because she was your last chance at salvation?"
The question was sharp and unavoidable. It was inappropriate. It was not a question at all, but a statement disguised in the most palatable way possible. Most importantly, it was telling. Who knew Tommy Shelby better than Jack Brewer? Only Polly Shelby, probably.
If he were honest, Tommy didn't even know how it happened. Jack was young, only just approaching his late twenties, yet he was the puppet master of London Town. His utterly charming but never quite polite disposition only helped unnerve gangsters and politicians alike when he monitored them like chess pieces. Rumors overtook facts, leaving the miraculous path Jack took from being a banker's apprentice to untamed royalty a mystery of folklore proportions. To add to it, Jack's boyish, handsome features made him unassuming.
"Don't mind the priss. He's just bein' a nuisance in the corner," Alfie Solomons grumbled as he led Tommy into the office. The rum runner nodded his head towards the back of his office, revealing a clean-shaven 22-year-old in an expensive suit.
"You're grumpy today, Alfie. You still skipping breakfast?" Jack asked, an airy arrogance to his tone. He didn't look up from the folder he was reading from while Alfie barked a sassy rebuttal, but when Jack did, his eyes locked with Tommy's. Suddenly he was standing and approaching the businessmen with an outstretched hand. His manner was as relaxed as his firm yet comfortable handshake. "Thomas Shelby, how are you? I'm Jack Brewer."
"I'd say nice to meet you, but I don't know yet." Tommy watched Jack's eyes sparkle.
"This has already made my day."
"Do you mind? We have a meeting?" Tommy motioned to Alfie, not bothering with many pleasantries. Jack looked to Alfie, a playful smile on his face.
"Alfie?"
"The kid's my partner anyway. He's a puppeteer and a walking omen if you can believe it," Alfie, in his own way, vouched for the boy.
"Anyone could have predicted the war between the Jews and the Italians. You just have to think," Jack said with a shrug.
"What kind of partners are you?" Tommy asked as he unbuttoned his suit jacket. Jack's eyes flickered down to take in his figure for a moment, not minding for a second that Tommy caught the motion. He even looked him in the eye after.
"Alfie provides security for me, and I help him out with projects here and there. He can let you know which ones."
"Ah, there's a lot of trust between you then." Tommy nodded.
"Not really. We just understand each other. If I were to betray Alfie, I'd lose business, reputation, and all the dark rum I can swallow. If Alfie were to betray me, it would be in vain, and I'd make sure he wouldn't be able to leave more than a glimmer of false hope to his kin when he passes. Right, Alfie?" Jack looked back to Alfie, his smile still reposed and bright.
"Yeah, yeah, I've heard you. Now quit your yapping and get over here, Tommy." Alfie motioned to the chair in front of him. Before he could, a hand reached out and placed itself on Tommy's shoulder and gave it a gentle squeeze. It would have been warm if Jack wasn't seemingly wicked at heart.
"Don't worry, Tommy, I won't interfere. I've got work to do back here."
That was a good four years ago, and now Tommy sat shirtless on a chair in Jack's posh, surprisingly well-used kitchen. Just a moment ago, Tommy was musing about how he felt robbed. It took showing up at half past midnight with a knife wound to see Jack with mused hair, wiry glasses, and a long-sleeved thermal pushed up to his elbows. Now, Tommy was looking at that same boy as if he'd lost his mind.
"You've got a lot of balls, Jack, and you're toeing a fine line. Why would you say that?" Though it was a threat, Tommy in no way thought Jack would be intimidated. Just as he suspected, the young man remained unfazed by his tone as he clumsily splashed iodine on a cotton square.
"You've always wanted more than any man could have. You loved and married an aristocrat who betrayed you because she wanted the clean version of you, and you wanted to be that clean version. I believe we'd call that a pacemaker of sorts, someone to keep you going in a certain direction. Doesn't really work that way when you're the type to risk anything to meet your goal. But it was a good try. Be brave now," Jack said, mumbling the last part as he leaned in and focused on Tommy's arm. It was only a flesh wound, a narrowly missed shanking from a rival gang's guerilla attack turned into a jagged slash on his left bicep.
"You're an insufferable bastard," Tommy said finally.
"And you suffer plenty. Is that why you like me?" Jack's eyes shifted to meet the icy blue ones for a moment, and gave Tommy a cheeky smirk.
"When did I say I liked you?"
Jack thought to the many times they'd spent together in offices, various properties they owned, hotel rooms, and the occasional Bently. He nodded and gave a knowing smile.
"You're right. I'm presumptuous."
Jack could have just about anything he wanted- a spontaneous parade that would block traffic or a shady election alike. But despite their murky history, it was no secret that his favorite carrot on a stick was Tommy Shelby.
Jack would be dead if the tables were turned, and Jack had done what Tommy did to him. An attempt at betrayal that was now years old but still fresh in Tommy's mind by the power of something akin to regret. But Jack was a different breed of man, one that Tommy yet didn't have a grasp on.
"If you hadn't tried to betray me, you wouldn't be the opportunist I thought you were. And that would have been disappointing," said Jack after revealing what he knew back then, which was everything.
He didn't ask Tommy for so much as an apology. Instead, he was here handling Tommy like he was made of glass. Tapping the iodine against thickened skin was almost too gentle. It was unnecessary. Still, Tommy sat quietly and took it because it was past 1 AM now, and he was tired, and he liked it. In the glow of the kitchen lights, Tommy let his shoulders relax and his mind wander.
He always figured he'd end up at Jack's actual apartment. Not a safe house or his third most frequented London flat, but his real home. Thinking back to when Jack first opened the door, Tommy wondered if he'd gotten one over on the man. Jack looked surprised for a moment before rolling his eyes, holding the back door open, and telling Tommy the entry cost was getting his wound dressed. It wasn't every day he could outsmart Jack. Tommy spent a considerable amount of time pinpointing the address he'd been quietly holding onto for the better part of a year. Using it now gave away some leverage, but it was worth it to see this side of Jack, calm with the haze of sleepiness inside an equally quiet house.
Were they opposites? He often felt a pang of dreadful isolation, even when his family was bickering around Arrow house's large dining table. But Jack seemed so content in his home alone, not a soul around. He'd even sent his small staff of three away on holiday for the week to avoid being asked if he wanted tea throughout the day because it drove him up a wall.
Would he like to be in a place like this, Tommy thought? Padding through the house barefoot, a warming drink in hand. The bigness that signified luxury traded in for the gift of holding a conversation with someone in the next room and smell what's cooking from his bed. And with Jack. That would be something.
"That's why you let your guard down, isn't it?" Jack brought Tommy's mind back to the present as he finally secured the bandage. He always did that. "You're not usually this careless. Were you thinking about absolution? Did you see her again?"
"You talk too much. And thinking you're always right's going to get you killed."
"No, it's not. Aren't I right anyway?"
"No."
Jack hummed, looking Tommy over for a moment. He leaned down, one hand grasping Tommy's wrist, letting his fingertips graze over the delicate skin. The other found its place on Tommy's thigh, only the smallest indention made from his fingertips.
Jack leaned into him, centimeters away from allowing their lips to brush. Instead, he inhaled softly. His nose grazed against Tommy's cheek, then his jaw, down his neck to his collarbone then up again. Tommy could feel his heart rate speed up. How could this youngin possibly get a rise out of him like this?
"You don't smell like opium anymore, Tommy. I'm proud of you," Jack spoke softly in his ear and let his thumb stroke the inside of Tommy's wrist. Those for words made Tommy's chest leap. "That means you aren't hallucinating her because you're high. And it seems like a little more than just residual love."
"You shouldn't talk about her that way. You of all people don't have the right."
A warning.
Jack pulled away far enough to see the glossy eyes of the man he let in. It was a strange feeling to be looked at with undeserved tenderness, Tommy thought. Moreso, it was unusual to be cared for.
Are you sure you vetted your new house staff properly?
Did you take precautions at your new factory?
That ciggy's not your lunch, is it?
Whether in meetings, in passing, or on purpose, there were always questions for Tommy. And when Jack felt Tommy exceeded his usual recklessness, he let him know.
And now, Jack was asking more questions. Prying. He tilted his head slightly. A warning from Tommy Shelby wasn't to be taken lightly, no matter who you were. Jack just happened to take the weight in stride.
"I shouldn't talk about Grace like what?" Jack asked.
"Like you know how she was in this world, and how she stays with me now. You don't know anything about it."
"Tommy, you know I'm thankful to her for taking care of you. I was at the wedding, wasn't I? No ill will. This isn't about her anyway; it's about you. Who else do you talk to about her? You just keep it in, don't you?"
"Gonna refer me to another head doctor? Don't waste your breath," Tommy scoffed.
"I'm going to refer you to the best psychiatrists I know as long as we both shall live. I'll make you sick of me."
"Too late."
"Well, I have nothing to lose then."
Jack straightened, reminding Tommy that he was being held only because he missed the feeling as Jack went to the liquor cabinet. He muttered something under his breath as he grabbed two glasses. That's right.
Jack was condescending, smug, even mean at times when it came to business. But when it came to Tommy, the one who sat shirtless in his kitchen with his shoulders relaxed and eyes carefully observing him, Jack had never spoken words too sharp at him. It was unnecessary, Tommy thought, because he could take it. But perhaps it was more of Jack not wanting to treat him in a way that Tommy had to brace himself to take.
"That'll help you sleep," Jack said, placing the drink in his hand. Tommy stood, gulping the small amount of brandy with ease.
"Where am I sleeping?"
"So, you want to stay?" Jack raised an eyebrow. "I can call you a cab."
"Come off it, it's unbecoming to not host a guest in a house like this," Tommy motioned around him. The phrasing made Jack's cheeks warm. Unbecoming, like some sort of debutante being scolded.
"Is the most becoming thing to do offering you my bed?" Jack leaned in close once again, giving Tommy his big eyes full of faux innocence. When he wasn't in his high-end suits or talking quite frankly, Jack had to capacity to look adorable.
"Aren't you being presumptuous?" Tommy asked. Of all the things he could have said, Tommy didn't expect that to be the one that made Jack reel back like he'd been hit. The young man moved to lean against the wall and pointed to the stairs.
"I have several guest rooms. I don't know if the beds are turned down or what that even means, but they're there."
It was late, Tommy remembered, and Jack wasn't energized enough to keep the banter going on. Not like this. Jack took a sip of his drink and waited for Tommy. He was always waiting for Tommy.
"Is your bed turned down?" Tommy asked.
"I just told you I don't know what that means," Jack said, setting down his glass then stretching. He let his arms rest above his head. The motion revealed a toned stomach and just how low on the hips Jack's cotton bottoms actually hung.
"So you'll have to come to check for yourself, old man."
At nearly 2 AM, the only thing either of them had the energy to do was sleep. Any other revelations about Jack would have to wait until morning, and Tommy wasn't disappointed.
As he moved Jack's head from his chest and arm from around his waist, Tommy found that Jack was dead to the world when asleep. He was also prepared no matter what, evident by the new toothbrush and folded note sitting in an empty glass on the bathroom counter. The message read, 'Tommy, suit in closet, red hanger.' Did Jack know he'd wake up before him? Tommy scoffed but dressed anyway.
"What the hell are you still doing here?" Jack said through a yawn as he stumbled into the dining room at noon, where Tommy was sitting with a book and a coffee cup.
"Do you want me to leave?"
"It's fine. Taking all that smoke in your lungs is probably going to kill you," Jack said, motioning to the cigarette that was still smoking in the small ashtray on the table while he passed through to the kitchen.
"Taking its time, isn't it?"
"Don't say that. You're the only one making this fun."
"What?"
"This whole race to the top we've got going on in this city. Or the world, I guess."
"You don't have a legacy you want to leave behind when you grow old," Tommy asked. A moment later, Jack was standing in front of him with two water glasses and no willingness to accept no as an answer when he encouraged Tommy to drink.
"I'm not growing old. Someone'll get wise and kill me off before that."
Jack was as confident about this as everything else he said. He was more cynical than Tommy thought. He thought back to the one time he asked the man about the war and if he fought. Jack's answer always intrigued Tommy. Jack averted his gaze, and before quickly changing the subject, he said, "Just a bit." Whatever happened, Tommy figured it changed him.
Jack sat and made no mention of how the table's head was always his place, but Tommy could have it for now. He pulled a pastry from a dish sitting in the middle of the table and placed it in his mouth to free his hands. One picked up the paper that had clearly been read through, and one shamelessly commandeered Tommy's coffee cup. A bite of the buttery crust washed down by the coffee that made him grimace gave Jack the energy to try and read the paper. Tommy watched as the young man shuffled the pages, becoming more disgruntled by the minute.
"Why did you do this?" He asked Tommy, exasperated as he tried to find which loose insert continued the front-page story. Once he gathered it, he folded it together correctly and took a large bite of his pastry, only to be interrupted. Tommy tried to smother his growing smile and laugh to no avail. "What?"
"You're a brat."
Jack's eyes widened. He blinked for a moment, both because he never expected Tommy of all people to call him that and because he'd never seen the gangster laugh so heartily before. His mouth still full, Jack asked to clarify,
"A brat?"
"Through and through. Fussy from the moment you woke up," Tommy chuckled again. Heat crept up Jack's neck and face, but he let himself huff in amusement.
"I'm just particular."
It was a surprisingly eventful news week- horse races fixed to perfection and hollow speeches from political figures made to the public. And yet Jack found himself more interested in the unchanging man before him. He rested his chin in his palm and took Tommy in.
It was true that he hadn't expected Tommy to show up on his doorstep. But, if Tommy hadn't found his address by now, he would have been disappointed. Showing up like he did, however... Well, Jack had wanted to invite him on his own accord.
The whole thing with the Changrettas and ultimately Solomons was finally over, and Tommy could come back to him in London. They'd planned to meet on Tuesday, something about golf. Yet here, Tommy was instead, being somewhat of a nuisance. He hadn't asked if he could smoke in the house and didn't ask where the coffee was before he made. Not to mention, he handled his grouchiness with a bite of his own. A smile reached Jack's eyes and radiated through his body- this was an excellent second choice. It was like Tommy belonged there.
Almost.
"Try not to look so enamored; it's off-putting," Tommy spoke, not looking up from his book on... political influence? Something happened...
Jack reached out and placed a hand on Tommy's neck. His fingers moved up to feel the texture of his ridiculous hair cut, finally earning a glance. Jack could only imagine what Tommy would look like if he actually grew it out. The newspaper was an afterthought as Jack leaned over from his chair and pressed his lips against Tommy's. Soft, chapped, and chaste, but just what he needed all the same.
"Do I put you off?"
"All the time."
"Why are you wearing this?" Jack's hand moved to the collar of Tommy's shirt. Well, the shirt he got Tommy. The suit itself was expensive; a Belgian tailor with magic hands met Jack's requirements from the light gray color to the silver cufflinks.
"Didn't you tell me to?"
"Mm, I did. But if you're staying, then I'm just going to get you out of it."
"So straightforward."
"Says the man whose means of seduction involve alcohol, white lies about petrol, and some variation of 'let's fuck.'"
"Didn't say it was a bad thing."
"I'm making more coffee."
Jack had only placed his (formerly Tommy's) mug on the counter when the well-dressed man caged him in from behind.
"Are you not going to keep your promise?"
By nature, Jack was fearless in a way that surprised Tommy. If one believes death to be an inevitable luxury, there isn't a situation that could faze them much. In Jack's mind, either the consequence was easy, i.e., death, or it was difficult but something he'd get over at some point. Either outcome led the young man to do precisely what he wanted always.
The first time they kissed, they stood in Jack's office. Tommy was leaned against his desk, and Jack wasn't shy about leaning into him. Now in Jack's kitchen, he held that same energy. Turning in Tommy's arms, Jack wasted no time pressing their lips together again, with the older man meeting him halfway.
Tommy wasn't exactly sure how Jack managed. His kisses were dangerous- straightforward yet teasing, intense yet languid. It was helped only by the fact that they fit well together. Hands cupped a young man's face as a bold pajama-clad thigh moved between legs to press against the front of trousers. Thoughts of money were pushed aside as an expensive waistcoat was clenched between eager fingers, now a simple tool with a single-use: making them closer.
Even when he was dangerously close to light-headed, Jack considered this a worthy moment to push himself. The short breaths passed between kisses would have to suffice for now. For all Tommy called Jack bold, the young man couldn't help but let out a chuckle at how expertly dominant Tommy could be. A hand pressed to the small of his back, moving Jack and his eager thigh that brushed against Tommy's trousers closer while kissing down his neck.
"Enough," Jack breathed. Tommy looked up, unsure what he meant until Jack pushed their lips against each other again and let his hands rest on Tommy's belt. "Do you want a bed or a couch? Because I could have you right now, and I will if we go further."
The couch was closer.
Tommy's ability to concentrate was dwindling with each undone button. Open-mouthed kisses landed on every inch of available skin, making it a battle of moving fast enough to continue and not getting overwhelmed by so much contact after being touch starved. Maybe that was Jack's strategy. Sharp pain sinking into his shoulder made Tommy wince. It was a reminder that he'd been gone for a while. It was illogical and unnecessary to aim for exclusivity in whatever they called their relationship. Surprisingly, that's what made it all the more desperate.
"If I have a craving for Tommy Shelby, it doesn't matter who's around."
Jack ran a tongue over the indents of his canines and dragged it up his neck to stop and bite Tommy's earlobe.
"Hurry up," he breathed his command.
xx
"Did something happen?"
"When?"
"I don't know." Jack shrugged and tapped his cheek. Irritatingly patient, he was. They were in front of the fireplace in the den now, a fur blanket draped over them both as they laid in their underwear.  Early afternoon sun poured through the windows, illuminating the swirling smoke that left Tommy's lips.
"Then why ask?"
"Because I could know, but I always like to give you a chance to tell me voluntarily. It makes me feel less like you'd be lying to me every day if you could," Jack said, always casual, before stealing Tommy's cigarette. "Go ahead."
It wasn't that Tommy was interested in lying to the man all the time. In this instance, it was more that this was a problem Tommy got himself into and had to get himself out of. A problem that Jack had no doubt predicted like he predicted everything. Tommy thought back to his business with the Russians. Jack's first time in the Shelby Company Ltd. offices and Tommy's first time seeing the young man's face drop happened concurrently.
"Tommy," Jack almost sang his name, which only added to the tension. Tommy was a child about to be scolded for doing something he shouldn't have. "Am I too boring for you, Tommy? You had to go to the Russians?"
"A pest, always. Not boring though," Tommy said as he cleared his throat. He went to light his cigarette, giving it more concentration than required. Looking up, Tommy almost paused at the expression in Jack's eyes. There was no smile, genuine or otherwise, only the man he'd heard the haunting rumors about. What was the look he was getting? Annoyance? Disbelief? Frustration?
Instead of speaking on whatever it was, Jack placed a hand over his mouth and looked away. He swore under his breath and mumbled a few words before looking back. Maybe Jack should have told Tommy he was stupid and that the plan wasn't worth it. Doing something like this would be the nail in the coffin for any hopes of an utterly above-board business. But Jack, for once, chose his battle.
"That Tatiana Petrovna knows everything about you. The details of you being a widow, your brand of tobacco, the way you like to sin," Jack said instead. "And don't leave any weapons around. She's crazy."
Jack was good at being one step ahead or quickly recognizing when he wasn't and course correcting. But, though Tommy knew Jack wasn't a stranger to killing a man point-blank, there was still a grit that he was missing. Too eloquent and methodical to handle the Italians from New York. So he told Jack everything and how he was victorious using his Romani prowess. Jack wasn't the only strong one.
"Ah, so you're here because Polly threatened to lock you out of the safes again if you didn't take a holiday," Jack mused. That was his real question from earlier. Why the hell are you still here?
"Something like that." Tommy nodded.
"What are you going to do when you start shaking again? And hearing things?" Jack asked, offering the cigarette to its original owner.
"I'll deal with it if it happens, and it might. Nothing gin can't fix," Tommy said. He reached for the cigarette, only for it to be snatched away and tossed into the flames.
"That was a test. You failed." Jack rolled to his side, propping himself up on his forearm.
"I'm not sick, hm? I've shut the door on the war. I'm not Arthur. I can manage." Tommy could feel himself warming with anger, no, defensiveness at the idea that everything he did was to be questioned.
"I'm not letting you run around here like a dog catching rabies."
"You don't have a say in as much as you think you do," Tommy reminded him. Jack smiled in response, his eyes lightening up. He shifted his fingers then brought them to Tommy's temple in the shape of a gun.
"Go to a doctor, or I'll kill you myself. Bang."
He made a shooting motion then pulled his hand away, blowing imaginary smoke from his fingers. Tommy wondered if Jack ever made jokes. No matter his tone of voice, he always said what he meant and meant what he said. There was no getting out of this.
"What, are you my father now?
"Would you like that?"
"Christ,"
"Not quite him, either."

Dear Jack (Series)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Jack Brewer x Reader
Summary: Y/N is a student at the Bobby Wasabi Dojo. Their life changes when Jack Brewer shows up in their life.
Word Count: 2.9k
Warnings: Cussing, nothing else really, I kind of alternate between they and she pronouns.
Chapter One: Wasabi Warriors
Y/N was sat with Milton, Jerry, and Eddie eating lunch.
“Hey, Mil, can you help me with this?” Y/N asked sliding their algebra over to him, “I’m having issues with number five.”
Milton glanced over it, “Quadratic formula.”
Y/N nodded, “Thanks.”
They grabbed a fry off their tray and popped it into their mouth. Jerry looked over Milton’s shoulder.
“Aye yo, look at that new guy.” He said, pointing behind Milton
I looked where he indicated. A pretty boy was standing with his tray, looking around the cafeteria absently.
“You’re drooling.” Eddie commented as he ate
“I am not.” Y/N retaliated
The boys all tried to hide their laughs.
“Mhmm.” Milton hummed, he turned to the new guy
“Hey, new kid!” Eddie called to him
The boy smiled as he walked to the table.
“Hi, I’m Jack.” He introduced
“I’m Milton, that’s Jerry,”
Eddie cut him off, “I’m Eddie, and that’s Y/N.”
Y/N gave a slight wave, “Hey.”
Jack sat down with them, “So, how do you all know each other?”
“We all do karate together.” Milton replied
Before Jack could reply, Milton and Y/N were both hit with falafel’s.
Y/N scrunched their nose in disgust, “Not again.”
Jerry was hit, “Not cool man.”
Y/N rolled her eyes and stood up. Jack eyed her for a moment.
“Frank!” Y/N snapped as she walked to the Black Dragons
“Hey!” Jack interuppted, he slung his arm around Y/N, “I like your outfits, are you guys cheerleaders?”
“No! Well, Bryan used to be.” Frank replied, Y/N hated his stupid voice, “So, you got a problem or something?”
Frank went all out demonstrating his karate.
Jack’s eyebrows rose, “ Look, I didn’t come over here to fight man.”
Jack was about to pull Y/N back to the table when Frank moved to punch him. He caught Frank’s fist and pushed Y/N behind him. She rolled her eyes at that.
“You probably shouldn’t have done that.” Jack smirked before flipping Frank
The rest of the dragons got up to fight. Bryan ran at Y/N followed closely by Tyler. She jumped and grabbed his shoulders before swinging around him and kicking Tyler across the room. Jack was doing pretty well himself.
Bryan dropped Y/N and went to punch her, she swung her leg and took him to the ground. They gave Jerry a look and he tossed them his pudding. She smashed it onto Bryan’s face. Only two of the dragons were left in a position to be fighting, and Jack took care of them fairly quickly.
Once Frank had run out, Jack looked around and saw the damage he’d done. He looked at Y/N with a sheepish grin before booking it out of the cafeteria.
After school Y/N was at the dojo with the boys. Eddie got absolutely wrecked by Marge.
Y/N laughed hard, “Wipeout, buddy.”
“Eddie got dusted by Marge the lunch lady again!” Jerry chortled
Rudy was preceded by two guys in business suits. None of them looked very happy.
“Guys, what are you doing?” Rudy demanded, “They said if we don’t win two belts at our next tournament they’re shutting us down!”
“You wanna win some belts just make Y/N do everything.” Eddie groaned from the floor
“Or get that new kid Jack in here.” Jerry added
“Yeah, he took out four Black Dragons at lunch.” Y/N quipped
“You took down two of them.” Milton corrected
Y/N shrugged and grabbed another slice of pizza. Rudy shook his head.
“I don’t care about some cat fight at school.” He insisted, “This dojo is built on the foundation of hard work and discipline. Let’s get to work.”
The boys took their seats and Y/N sat with them. She was close to the decorative wall because she wanted to have everyone sitting on the mat, but there wasn’t enough space.
After a couple of minutes Y/N heard yelling that sounded like it was coming from behind her. She stood and looked at the wall for a moment before the wall burst open, she let out a scream, then she was on the floor.
“That boy just came right out the wall!” Marge yelled
Y/N’s ears were ringing and she let out a groan.
“Okay, you guys have got to try that.” Came a new and vaguely familiar voice
There was a bit of shouting, a ‘sorry’ , and then Milton and Rudy were standing over her.
“Holy christmasnuts, are you okay?” Milton asked
Y/N nodded, “I think so.”
Rudy grabbed Y/N’s hand and pulled them to their feet, “Let’s get you sat down.”
He walked them to the waiting area. She looked and saw Jack being held by two security guards.
“Hey, Jack.” Y/N greeted
“Hey Y/N.” Jack replied with a wink
Jerry came up behind Y/N and patted her shoulder, “You coming over for dinner again tonight?”
Y/N nodded, “Yeah, your mom is making arepas, right?”
He nodded, “Come on, let’s get going.”
Jerry leaned over and let Y/N wrap their arm around his neck and he aided them in their walk out of the dojo.
At Jerry’s he sat them down on the couch and rifled through his DVD’s.
“What do you want to watch, hermana?” He asked
“I don’t care, you pick.” Y/N replied
She was distracted, thinking about Jack. He really seemed like the perfect guy. Cute, good hair, nice, confident, willing to stand up for others, and not to mention his insane martial arts talent. Y/N wasn’t even aware they had spaced out, but Jerry was. He saw the soft smile land on their face as their eyes seemed to see something other than his living room. The way that Y/N’s eyes crinkled as they thought.
“You still with me?” Jerry asked
Y/N shook their head, “Yeah, yeah, sorry.”
“Whatcha thinking about?”
He went to the kitchen and brought out the steaming arepas as he listened to Y/N talk.
“Just about Jack, honestly.”Y/N replied, “He’s just... super cool, I guess. I don’t know. I just think it’s nice that he stood up for us when Frank was messing with us, and he’s talented.”
Jerry handed her an arepa, “And cute?”
“Yeah,” She said absently, “Wait, no!”
“Oh, you do think he’s cute!” Jerry laughed
Y/N pouted and Jerry ruffled their hair.
“No worries, your secret is safe with me!” Jerry assured
The next day Y/N was back to normal, if not a little sore. She opted to not get food with the boys and instead went straight to the dojo. Rudy came out of his office.
“Hey, Rudy!” Y/N greeted
“Hey, where are the boys?” He replied
“Falafel Phil’s, they’ll be here in a bit.”
Y/N dragged one of the practice dummies out of the corner and started working on her form. It wasn’t long until Jerry, Milton, and Eddie came in.
“Where’s Jack?” Y/N asked as she hit the dummy particularly hard
“With Kim Crawford.” Milton said as Y/N went in for another punch
She knocked it over with the force, “What?”
Jerry smirked, “Oooh, you’re jealous!”
“I am not!” Y/N insisted, “Jerry, come here, hold up the dummy. I need to hit something.”
He picked up the dummy and held it securely as Y/N unleashed an assault upon it. Hit after hit after hit landed, each one harder than the last. Until Y/N knocked over the dummy and Jerry.
“Sorry.” She panted, helping him off the ground
Rudy was smiling at her, “That’s the kind of energy we need for the tournament, Y/N! Good work!”
As he said that, Jack came in spinning a new bow staff with a stupid cute grin on his face.
“Sorry I’m late-” Jack started
Rudy rounded on him and cut him off, “Sorry doesn’t cut it, Jack! Where did you get that astronaut bowstaff?”
“It was a gift from the Black Dragons!” Jack smiled, “See! We can all use it!”
He tried to hand it to Y/N who turned her back on him and retreated toward Jerry. Jack’s smile dropped.
“What? Students here are forbidden from even entering that dojo!” Rudy replied to Jack
Jack scoffed, “You can’t forbid me from doing anything!”
Y/N rolled her eyes, and Jerry wrapped an arm around her shoulder. They both watched the interaction, Milton and Eddie quickly crossing to them.
“Hey, if it wasn’t for me you would’ve been banned from the mall for two weeks!” Rudy insisted
A silence fell over the room. Jack looked livid.
“Banned from the mall?” Jack demanded, “You told me I was going to jail!”
Rudy’s mouth opened and closed like a fish for a moment.
He sputtered a bit, “Wha- Well, I say a lot of things! I’m what they like to call chatty!”
Jack stormed toward Rudy, “You lied to me! You broke the Wasabi Code! You know what? Kim was right! This place is a joke! I quit!”
Jack marched out of the dojo. Leaving everyone speechless. Then Rudy jumped into action.
He ran toward the door, “Fine! Go!”
Then Rudy turned to the kids, “Who needs him?”
Y/N rolled her eyes and everyone stared at him.
Then all in unison said, “We do!”
Rudy’s eyes widened as he ran back to the door, “Wait! Come back!”
After that they all left. Y/N was walking to their bike on the bike rack when she passed the Black Dragon dojo. Kim was walking out and smiled when she saw Y/N.
“Hey! How was your day?” Kim asked
“Just swell.” Y/N snapped, “Nothing like hearing that your friend called your dojo a joke.”
Kim’s face fell, “Y/N I’m sorry. But sensei really wants Jack at our dojo-”
“Go away, Kim.” Y/N sighed
The day after that they all resigned to the fact that Bobby Wasabi was going to close. So they all started packing, Y/N was set on rolling up the mats.
“Jack! You’re back!” Rudy burst
Y/N looked at him and gave him a small wave.
“I’m just here to get my stuff,” He specified, “What are you guys doing?”
“Packing up.” Y/N chimed
“Yeah, we’re closing. No Jack, no belts, no dojo.” Jerry finished
Y/N taped up the mat where it was rolled and started to tip it up but it was a bit too heavy, so Jack came over and helped her. He sent her a wink as he did so.
“Milton David Krupnick!”
Y/N turned around, Milton’s dad was storming through the doors. She sighed, of course he hadn’t known Milton was doing karate.
“So this is your french horn lesson?” His dad snapped
“I’m sorry dad, I started doing karate so that I could defend myself when people made fun of me for taking french horn lessons.” Milton explained, “It doesn’t matter anyway, it’s shutting down. This was the one place I really felt like I belong.”
Eddie nodded, “Yeah, now my mom is going to send me back to Mrs.King’s Dance Academy! My body was not made to mambo!”
“Yeah, guess I’m a lone wolf again! That’s how I like it!” Jerry sniffled, “Don’t think for a moment I’m going to miss any of you meatbags!”
“Guess it’s back to eating lunch with Henrietta.” Y/N sighed, the boys looked at her weird, “My paper mache crab I made for my Earth Science class.”
Milton’s dad motioned for him, “Let’s go, Milton. You’re lucky you didn’t hurt yourself.”
Jack was gazing around at his friends. And then he ran toward Milton.
“Wait, Milton!” Jack hollered, “Why don’t you show your dad how you can break this board?”
Milton gave him a look, “Break a board? Jack, I can barely cut a well cooked piece of fish.”
Jack pulled him up to a board he set on two moving boxes, “Just do it.”
“Jack-” Milton protested
“Do it!” Jack yelled
In a panic Milton slammed his hand into the board and split it in half. Milton’s dad was impressed, and honestly so was everyone else.
“Milton that was incredible!” His dad praised, then he left
Rudy warily walked to Jack, “These are your friends, Jack. They didn’t break the Wasabi Code. I did.”
They all gathered around them, hopeful glints in each of their eyes. They didn’t want to give this up yet.
“What do you say?” Rudy asked, then put his fist to his palm, “Wasabi?”
Y/N copied Rudy, which prompted the boys to do so too. Jack smiled and copied all of them.
“Wasabi.” He affirmed
They all got to work. Jack came to help Y/N put the mats back where they went. He looked at her fondly as they worked.
“You’re staring,” Y/N commented as they rolled the mat out
Jack blushed, “Uhm, thank you. For, kind of making me not quit the dojo.”
She shook her head with a small smile, “Keep rolling.”
They all worked hard to get their belts. Hoping to get two, maybe three.
When the tournament came, Y/N was undeniably nervous. But she came out with her boys in her gi. Flexing their muscles and making a big show of still being there to fight to stay open. They took their seats on the bench.
“Okay, Eddie’s up first.” Jack said
We all looked at Eddie, he was knelt on the mat praying. Jack ran to him and said something, before seeing Eddie’s opponent.
“What do they feed you, brother?” Jack spluttered
He went back to talking to Eddie before returning to the bench with the rest of the team. Once the match started it was over quickly. Eddie flipped and pinned his opponent easily, surprising all of us.
“We got our first belt!” Rudy cheered
“Okay, Jerry, nunchucks is next. All you gotta do is-” Jack began
“Relax, Jack. I got this.” Jerry cut him off and stepped to the mat
His opponent did some fancy moves and Jerry nodded.
“Oh yeah? Well check this out.” Jerry smirked
It started well, and it gave Y/N a little hope. But before that hope could grow too much Jerry hit himself in the balls and fell to the ground. Y/N was beside him in a moment.
“Jerry, are you okay?” She asked
“Everything is purple.” He groaned
Y/N hauled him to his feet and took him back to the bench. Her match was next so she stepped to the mat. Tyler was the guy she was against. He was huge in comparison to her.
Jack stepped up next to her, “Hey, you’ve got this. I believe in you.”
He grabbed her hand and gave it a quick squeeze before going back to the team. Y/N took a deep breath and then the match started. With a running start Y/N jumped and landed with her thighs around his neck, which surprised him. She put her weight backward and flipped him over as they both landed on the ground, and kept him pinned until the ref pulled her off.
“Second belt, boys!” Y/N cheered as she went to the bench
Jack enveloped her in a tight hug, “I’m so proud of you!”
They sat as Milton went up for his event. He was against Frank for board breaking.
Frank broke the one board he was given.
“Double it.” Milton told the ref
“Ooh! My boy is going for the win!” Jack cheered, being a general dork
Y/N chuckled, “You look so stupid.”
“What, you don’t like this?” Jack asked as he deepened the dumb lunge he was in
Milton won while they weren’t paying attention.  Jack and Y/N cheered as he went around and gloated to the Black Dragons. The red took his belt for his bad sportsmanship.
Rudy scolded, “Milton! That was our ticket to staying open! What were you thinking?”
“That this is the best day of my life?” Milton sighed happily
The vertical peg kick was next, Jack’s event. He stood and went to the mat. He shot Y/N a wink. She gave him a little air kiss as a joke. Jack went around the mat and Frank attacked, taking him down by his leg.
Y/N ran to him quickly, “Jack! Are you okay?”
The rest of the boys were close behind her. She knelt beside him.
“I can’t move.” Jack groaned
Rudy panicked, “Yes you can! Don’t you quit on me!”
“Rudy!” Jack snapped, “You’re kneeling on my leg.”
Rudy stood, “Oh.”
Y/N pulled him up and held his shoulders.
“Are you going to be able to compete?” Jerry asked
Jack shrugged, “I don’t know.”
“You’ve got this, I believe in you!” Y/N encouraged
Rudy ushered the boys away leaving Jack and Y/N alone.
“You gonna be okay?” Y/N asked
He nodded, “Yeah, I’ve got this.”
“Good, now go kick the Dragons butts.”
She kissed his cheek and ran back to the bench. Jerry wrapped his arm around her and smiled.
“Don’t think I didn’t see that.” He teased
Y/N shook him off, “You didn’t see anything.”
Milton tapped Y/N as Jack moved to take his spot. He flipped into a hand stand and it occurred to all of them how he was going to do this.
“He’s launching from his hands.” Rudy said incredulously
They all watched as time seemed to slow down, Jack did his gymnastics and knocked the peg off. Y/N stood up and cheered quickly. Followed by the rest of the team.
“We did it! We get to stay open!” Rudy exclaimed
“And we got three belts so we outdid it!” Jerry added
“You guys feeling what I’m feeling?” Rudy asked
They all nodded before doing their high kick.
“Wasabi!”

Word Count: 3.2k
Warnings: A few curse words, I think.
Chapter Two: Fat Chance
Jerry, Kim, Eddie, and Y/N were standing around Kim’s locker when Milton came running up. He was buzzing with excitement and was waving around a small trophy.
“Guys, guess what?” Milton tittered
“What’s up, Mil?” Y/N asked, readjusting her backpack straps
“Guess who just won the district wide spelling bee? I’ll give you a hint! M. E.”
“Meh?” Jerry asked
Y/N smacked the back of Jerry’s head.
“It’s me, ya toad.” Milton snapped
“That’s great, Milton!” Y/N praised
“What is that?” Eddie asked, pointing to Milton’s trophy
“It’s the trophy I won, it’s the bronze bee.”
Eddie, Jerry, and Kim looked unimpressed.
“I have fillings bigger than that thing.” Kim replied
“Come on! Who’s the man?” Milton cheered, “Who’s the man?”
Y/N was about to respond when there was a loud cheer.
“Jack is the man!” The principal shouted
Kim, Jerry, and Eddie hurried over and were cheering for Jack in no time. Leaving Milton and Y/N to wallow in their own pity.
“So...Jack...” Y/N trailed off
Milton knew what she meant, “Yeah...”
Y/N guided Milton to the crowd, and Milton stepped forward. Proudly showing his trophy.
“You know, I just won the first spelling bee our school has ever-”
“Hey, Jack! Show us what you did to win!” Eddie interjected
Milton sulked and walked back to Y/N. She wrapped an arm around his shoulders.
“It’s okay, Mil.”
Jack did a fancy back something or other that impressed the school. When Jack passed them on the way back to the principal, he shot Y/N a wink. She rolled her eyes in response.
“Well, Jack, I hope this means you’ll stay on the team.” Principal Funderburk hoped
Jack shrugged, “I told you, it was a one-time deal. I win you your trophy and you get a visit from the wedgie wizard.”
Funderburk sighed, “I guess a deal’s a deal.”
Jerry popped his knuckles as he approached.
“Just go with it.” Jerry warned, sprinkling some baby powder in his hands and handing the bottle to Y/N
He clapped his hands, “WoAAAH!”
Jerry took no time in hiking Funderburk’s underwear to the nape of his neck. The principal let out a scream.
“Is that all you got, punk?” Funderburk demanded in the highest falsetto his voice would allow
Then, the principal waddled away from the crowd. The student body started to disperse to go to class. Milton was staring sadly at his trophy.
Jack turned to the two, “Milton? Y/N, are you guys coming?”
Y/N glanced at Milton, “We’ll be there in a second.”
Y/N took her arm off of Milton as he walked toward the ladder. He seemed to be talking more to himself than her.
“You know, you’re just a little bee with broken wings. But you, my friend, are gonna hang with the big dogs!” Milton insisted as he started climbing the ladder
Y/N was quick to go around the other side and steady it as best she could. Once he got to the top Milton started to lose balance. But, Y/N couldn’t let go of the ladder without it toppling over with Milton. The scrawny boy yelped as he fell.
“Milton!” Y/N cried out
Before he hit the ground, one of the custodians caught him.
“If you’re my guardian angel, you sir, are awesome at your job!” Milton complimented.
After school, they were all walking to the dojo.
“He caught me! He put me down and walked away!” Milton explained to the others, “The only thing I know about him is that his name tag said Yoshi Nakamura.”
“Huh, I never noticed him before.” Jack commented
Y/N rolled their eyes as Kim stopped in her tracks.
“Okay, hold on,” Kim stopped, “ You didn’t notice a 600 pound custodian, but you did notice when Donna Tobin changed her ponytail from left to right?”
Jack scoffed, “Okay first, it was right to left. Second, it wasn’t a ponytail, it was a french braid. And third, maybe if that custodian had legs like Donna Tobin I would have noticed him too!”
Y/N chuckled and kept walking, Milton right beside her. Before they could go inside, Rudy stopped them with a wagon of trinkets.
“Huge news everybody, the magic shop across the mall is going out of business. They have to sell everything at half price,” Rudy announced, “I feel so bad for them. I think I’m gonna cry. It’s a good thing I have this handkerchief.”
He started to pull one of those magic infinity scarves out of his sleeve as he fake cried. He was giddy with excitement.
Jerry grabbed Y/N’s shoulder, “Yo, I don’t know how he’s doing that man... but it’s freaking me out!”
Y/N shook Jerry off and pushed past Rudy into the dojo. Rudy dragged his wagon in after her.
“Anyway, since the store closed a storage space opened up in the basement directly below us.” Rudy continued, “I finally have a place for all my stuff!”
“Oh thank God.” Y/N mumbled as she started to drag out a practice dummy
“It’s about time,” Eddie commented, “This place is getting pretty cluttered.”
“For real,” Y/N replied
“It is not!” Rudy protested
Kim sighed, “Rudy, this place looks like a crazy old cat lady lives here!”
“Okay, that is a bit of an exaggeration.” Rudy replied
Y/N raised her eyebrow at him and then made eye contact with Kim. The two went to the cabinet and each opened one door. They both scrambled back as Rudy’s things came tumbling out. A cat jumped into Y/N’s arms.
“This is not my cat.” Y/N announced
“Well, it isn’t my cat.” Rudy replied
Rudy headed off toward the basement with his wagon, he stopped and glanced at the cat.
“Are you coming Tip-Tip?” He whispered
The cat leapt from Y/N’s arms and into Rudy’s wagon. After he left Milton and Y/N went to Milton’s to bake a cake for Nakamura. Well, Y/N baked. Milton watched.
Y/N was lost in thought while they frosted the cake.
“Whatcha thinking about?” Milton asked
Y/N replied absently, “Did you notice when Donna Tobin switched her french braid?”
“Yeah, but all of us did.”
“I didn’t.”
“Well, you’ve been focused on Jack.”
Y/N’s eyes shot up, “I have not!”
“Ooh, big feelings.” Milton replied
“Just drop it.” Y/N mumbled
The next day, Milton was carrying the cake and Y/N was carrying a bouquet of paper roses they had made. Their friends surrounded them as they walked toward Nakamura’s supply closet.
“Dude, bringing custodian’s gifts is not cool.” Jerry insisted, “I mean, what’s next? Asking the crossing guard to the prom?”
“Eddie already tried that,” Y/N revealed
Eddie nodded, “She just wants to be friends.”
“I think it’s sweet they made their new friend a cake.” Kim defended
“Thanks, Kim.” Y/N replied
“See, when someone does something great. You know, save a life, or win a spelling bee. They should get some recognition.” Milton lectured
Y/N walked up and knocked. There was no answer. So Milton knocked harder. Jerry pushed past the two and just opened the door.
Inside, the walls were lined with newspapers outlining Nakamura’s victories in sumo wrestling. On the shelves were several trophies. They all stood in awe.
“Guys, do you know what this means?” Jack asked
Jerry nodded, “Yeah, our custodian is the king of the babies!”
They stared at all of the articles. Until the bell rang, Milton set the cake down inside the closet and Y/N set the roses on top of it. And they all headed to class.
They all met up after class to walk to lunch together. Milton and Y/N were debating who would be the better househusband, Loki or Captain America.
“Okay, but here’s what you’re missing with Loki: He has passenger princess energy.” Y/N argued, “As long as you provide, he will do whatever-”
Jerry cut them off as they entered the cafeteria, “Guys, look, there he is.”
Milton grabbed Y/N’s hand, “Come on!”
He dragged them up to Nakamura.
“Mr.Nakamura?” Milton called out, “I just want to thank you for saving my life yesterday!”
“Yes, thank you,” Y/N added on
“Hey, it’s what I do,” Nakamura answered, “Mop up barf, collect trash, and catch flying boys. I’m living the dream.”
Milton continued, “We stopped by your clost and saw your newspaper clippings, your trophies, and your medals!”
Y/N nodded, “We dropped off a cake and some paper flowers for you.”
Milton cut them off, “You’re amazing!”
“Then we checked you out on the internet!” Eddie continued, “You were a six time sumo champion!”
Jack nodded, “Yeah! That match where you lost your diaper thing and kept fighting? That was awesome! And disturbing... but mostly awesome!”
Nakamura chuckled, “ That was a long time ago. I used to be a hero in Japan. Now I plunge toilets.”
Nakamura looked at Jerry and took a few steps toward him.
“And you, either change your diet or use the bathroom at home, Jerry.”
Jerry looked at Y/N wide eyed, “You know my name?”
Nakamura chuckled, “Yeah, in the Janitor’s room we call you ‘The Bowl Buster’”
“You hear that guys? I’m the Bowl Buster woAHHH!”
Kim rolled her eyes and turned back to Nakamura, “Sir, I love that awesome victory dance you do! The Nakamura Stomp!”
Nakamura chuckled, “It started when I saw a spider in the ring, the crowd loved it so I just ran with it.”
“Come on, man, do it for us!” Eddie cheered
“No, I couldn’t I’m at work!”
Milton and Y/N made eye contact and then looked at Nakamura with their biggest beggar eyes.
“Please?” They whined in unison, “Just once?”
Nakamura relented, “Fine. Just one for you two, lil buds.”
He stomped once and the cafeteria shook, he stomped again and it shook more. He jumped and it knocked down anyone who was standing, including Y/N who fell on top of Jerry.
“That was awesome!” Y/N squealed
Principal Funderburk stormed in with spaghetti on his head, as Jerry and Y/N helped each other up and everyone else scrambled to their feet.
“Look what you did!” Funderburk fumed
“Sorry, sir, we were just having a bit of fun.” Nakamura apologized
“Fun?” Funderburk demanded, “I didn’t hire you to jump around like some hop scotching hippo.”
Milton pushed past Nakamura, “I got this.”
Y/N called after him, “Milton I wouldn’t.”
He waved them off.
“Mr.Nakamura would like for you to talk to him with a little more respect.” Milton demanded
“Oh, I don’t talk to you with respect. Do I?”
“Actually,I-” Nakamura tried
“This man used to be a hero, so he doesn’t even need this job!” Milton continued
“Milton-”Y/N tried
“Really?” Funderburk continued
“No, I really need this job-”
“He demands you to apologize to him right now!”
Funderburk smiled, “Really? Here’s my apology: Nakamura YOU’RE FIRED!”
Y/N sighed and chased after the principal, “Mr.Funderburk, wait!” After school, and after a very unhelpful meeting with Principal Funderburk they all were in the dojo. Nakamura was crying in the corner, Y/N sat with him as he ate his ninth pizza.
Rudy exited his office, “Guys, group meeting!”
They all grouped up, it took a second for Y/N to get away from Nakamura but they finally managed it.
“Why is weepy mchugey still here?” Rudy asked, gesturing to Nakamura
“The guy has been through a lot, Rudy,”Milton started
Y/N cut him off this time, “He saved Milton’s life and in return Milton got him fired from the school.”
This whole situation made Y/N extremely angry. They had spent the last two days getting cut off, talked over and ignored. When maybe if someone had let them speak, Nakamura would still have his job.
Milton glared at Y/N, “We found out why he quit sumo and left Japan in shame.”
“65 wins in a row! Then some rookie struts in and throws him out of the ring like a moldy pear.” Eddie elaborated
Nakamura heard the last bit, “Y’all got any pears over there?”
“There’s no pears, darling.”Kim answered
Jack continued, “As if that wasn’t bad enough, he lost his life savings!”
Rudy softened, “Wow. How’d he do that?”
“He went on a game show called ‘Are You Willing to Lose Your Life Savings’.”
Rudy rolled his eyes, “Fix this. Once the food runs out we’re going to start looking tasty to that guy. Fix this.”
Y/N nodded and went back to sit with Nakamura. He handed them a slice of pizza. Y/N patted his shoulder.
“We’ll figure it out Nakamura, you’ll be okay.” Y/N assured him
Jack approached the two and sat next to Y/N.
“Nakamura, Milton was right! You’re not a custodian, you’re a champion!” He said, “With our help, you’ll get there again.”
“I told you, it was a long time ago.” Nakamura replied, “Why do you guys believe in me?”
“We live by something called the Wasabi Code.” Jack answered
Y/N stepped beside Jack, “That means we never give up on each other.”
“We’ve just got to find a way to get you back on the horse!” Jack finished
Jerry pulled Jack away a bit, “Jack, it would probably be safer if the horse got on his back.”
Nakamura glared at Jerry as Y/N smacked him in the back of the head.
“But, uh, you know... either way!” He corrected
“Wasabi?” Jack asked, placing his hand in the center
Y/N was the first to put her hand in. The others soon followed. Trailed by Nakamura.
“Wasabi!” They all cheered
They were training and needed a weight vest for Nakamura. But, with just Milton on the front made him too front heavy so they placed Y/N on his back.
Milton and Y/N bounced as they came up on the finish line for Nakamura. Groaning the whole way from the pain.
“That was your best time yet!” Jack encouraged, “You ran around the whole mall in under four minutes!”
Y/N panted as they stopped moving, “I think this baby vest thing is fused into my thighs.”
“Bouncing around in this thing has given me a new respect for kangaroos.” Milton groaned
Nakamura unclipped them and Milton fell, while Nakamura let Y/N down as gently as he could.
Rudy came up to Nakamura on his way into the dojo.
“Hey, Nakamura! I saw you running around the mall, carrying a big pasty baby and Y/N!”
“I’m not pasty!” Milton protested, “I’m translucent!”
The group followed Rudy and Nakamura inside. Jack jogged up next to Rudy and Y/N.
“Nakamura is training for his big comeback!” Jack explained
“A comeback sumo match?” Rudy pondered, “I bet people would buy tickets for that!”
Eddie agreed, “I payed five dollars to watch the Kelly’s dog have puppies!”
Rudy and Y/N made a disgusted face.
“I’ve seen the miracle of life, and it’s disgusting!”
Rudy shook off Eddie’s reveal, “You know, we could have the match right here in the dojo!”
Jack quirked an eyebrow, “Well, that’s great and all, but we don’t have another sumo wrestler for him to compete against.”
“I do!” Rudy replied, he briefly explained the beached whale fiasco, “We kept in touch. I’ll give him a call.”
And then Rudy was off into his office. Not long after Jerry exited the bathroom wearing a blow up sumo suit thing.  “Time for your real workout, Nakamura!” Jerry announced, before jiggling the stomach, “Let’s belly up!”
Y/N stared at him dumbfounded.
Jack approached, “Jerry, how is this thing gonna help. You look like a bloated turkey in a thong.”
Y/N let out a short yet loud cackle, before throwing their hand up to muffle their laugh. Jerry scoffed.
“It’s gonna make him quicker!”He insisted, “I’m scrappy and wirey! Now, come on, Big Guy!”
Jerry ran at Nakamura, who immediately sent him sprawling. Jack and Kim moved to help him up. Y/N offered Nakamura a fist bump, he smiled at them. Once Jerry was on his feet, he sprinted back into the bathroom.
The night that the match was happening Milton and Y/N stood with each other near the match. Y/N glanced at him.
“It’s not your fault that Nakamura got fired.” Y/N said, “I talked to Funderburk, he was getting booted anyway.”
Milton looked at Y/N, “I still feel bad. He might have been able to talk his way out of it if I hadn’t opened my big mouth.”
“You were just trying to help,” Y/N reassured, “There’s nothing wrong with that. Plus, look at what we’re doing for him now.”
As soon as the other wrestler stepped in Nakamura ran off into Rudy’s office. Y/N was quick to follow after him.
Jack came in after her with Rudy and Milton.
“Nakamura, you can’t hide in here! ...Or anywhere.” He said
“I’m not going out there. That’s Yamasaki, he’s the only one that ever beat me.” Nakamura lamented, “I can’t fight him, man.”
Kim poked her head in, “Guys, we gotta put on a fight. The crowd’s getting ugly, and they were none too pretty to begin with.”
Milton looked at Y/N, who almost immediately got the message.
“This is all my fault,” Milton whined
He left the office, quickly followed by Y/N. The two walked into the locker room. Milton tied up his shorts and took his shirt off, making himself look as much like a sumo wrestler as he could. Y/N took off her blouse and left herself in her athletic shorts and tank top. They nodded at each other as they went to the ring.
The two readied themselves in the ring and Yamasaki did the same. Milton was the first to move, running straight at him. Y/N went around the back and jumped on his back. Milton was thrown away, and then Y/N was slung from his back over his shoulder to the ground. Knocking the wind out of her. Milton grabbed her ankle and pulled her toward him.
Nakamura grabbed Milton, before he could attack again.
“I got this one, lil buds.” Nakamura assured
Milton dragged a very out-of-breath Y/N out of the ring as Nakamura took over for them. Jerry helped Y/N to their feet.
Nakamura threw Yamasaki out of the ring, winning the match. Y/N was the first to his side, hugging him tightly.
“You did it, Nakamura!” They cheered
After a minute or so Jack came over. At which point Jerry started chanting for the Nakamura Stomp. Nakamura stomped once and the building shook, he stomped again, then he jumped. The floor gave way and landed him in Rudy’s man cave.
The next week after the match Milton was helping Y/N down the stairs. After a brief visit to urgent care they found out that pretty much their entire back was bruised from how hard Yamasaki had thrown them to the ground.
Jack was telling Jerry and Eddie about Nakamura’s plans.
“Thanks to Milton and Y/N, Nakamura is heading back to Japan soon to get his title back.” Jack explained
“You know,”Jerry started, “I could be a sumo wrestler. I would just have to gain like 5... 600 pounds.”
Eddie smirked, “Your mom did it pretty easily.”
“That’s it man-” Jerry took off after Eddie
Y/N chuckled at their antics.
Milton sighed, “Jack have you seen my spelling bee trophy?”
“I thought it was in your locker?” Y/N replied
“I thought so too, but I can’t find it anywhere. I know it’s small but it means a lot to me.”
“We’ll find it, Mil.” Y/N answered
“Don’t worry, Milton. I’m sure it’s someplace safe.” Jack replied, he glanced up
Y/N followed his gaze and smiled at him when they saw a slight bronze glint right next to the gymnastics trophy.

The four snuck into the freshly waxed hallway. Jack crouched and felt the wax.
“Ah, Waxy Wednesday, where a lunch tray meets a freshly buffed floor and legends are born,” He smirked
Eddie ran in from the cafeteria, “Hey guys, I got the trays!”
“Any problems getting by Marge the Lunchlady?” Kim asked
“Nah, she said they don’t pay her enough to care.” Eddie answered
Y/N nodded, “Fair enough.”
“Guys!” Jerry came bounding down the stairs, “Did I miss anything?”
“No, not yet.” Kim replied
“Aren’t you supposed to be in detention for that toll booth in the boys bathroom?” Y/N asked
He smirked, “I should be, but when you sit me in the back and leave a window open. I’m what they call a flight risk.”
Milton shook his head, “Jack, your record is about to be broken. Prepare for the new world champion: Milton ‘The Missile’ Krupnick!”
Milton took off his jacket and track pants to reveal a skin-tight spandex suit. Y/N was quick to cover her eyes.
“Pants, Milton!” Y/N cried, “For the love of God, pants!”
Jerry groaned, “Dude.. eat a sandwich.”
Milton frowned and put up his hood. The door near the cafeteria opened. Y/N went to the stairs in case they needed to cover for any of the others. That’s when they saw Truman.
“Oh look!” He greeted, “I walked into the middle of a loser-palooza! And the lovely Y/N of course.”
He took Y/N’s hand and kissed their knuckles. They snatched their hand back and sent him a glare.
“Hello, Truman,” Y/N grimaced
Jack stepped between Truman and Y/N protectively.
“What do you want, Truman?” He asked
Truman sidled up closer to the group, “I thought I’d just hang out.”
Jerry sneered, “Do you have to do it here?”
Y/N climbed the stairs and sat next to him on top of the lockers. As far as they could get from Truman.
“It’s a free hallway, Jerry.” Truman replied
Milton cut him off, “Truman, if you’ll excuse me, I have a date with destiny!”
The snobby boy laughed, “Well that’ll be your first date ever.”
“Hahaha, very funny.” Milton mocked, “You’re about to see my skid marks... okay, I thought that was gonna sound different when it came out.”
Kim rolled her eyes and ran to the garbage can before turning back to the group.
“Okay, guys, this garbage can marks Jack’s record of 47 floor tiles!” She hollered
Milton stepped back and took a running start before he jumped and slid on the tray on his knees. He was going super fast and slammed through the doors.
Y/N was the first on their feet.
“Milton, oh my God!” The shouted as they ran to him
Jack was right behind them, Jerry and Eddie close after.
“Dude, he just shattered your record!” Jerry cried
Kim nodded, “And that paper mache solar system outside the science room!”
Jack looked at the floor, “It looks like someone greased his tray!”
Y/N saw the slight trail of oil spray on the ground.
“You’re right!” Y/N agreed
That’s when they heard Truman laugh, “Looks like!”
The boy strolled off cackling to himself. Milton limped toward them, grimacing with pain every step he took.
“It looks like Saturn is now lodged in the dark side of the moon.” He groaned before limping away
They all saw that Saturn was lodged between his butt cheeks. Y/N cringed at the sight.
After school they were at the dojo. Jerry was taking his usual shower while the rest of them worked. That’s when Jerry ran out screaming.
Correction, he ran out screaming with bright pink hair. The others were immediately giggling while Y/N got shaken by the brightly colored boy. Kim strolled up to the two as Jerry sat down.
“Wait, something’s different,” She teased, “Don’t tell me... new bathrobe!”
Jerry huffed, “It’s my hair! This is what I get for showering! Rudy, what kind of shampoo are we using?”
Rudy took the bottle, “That’s the same shampoo we always use.”
Y/N looked at it and peeled off a false label that showed it was actually a bottle of hair dye.
“This isn’t shampoo!” Jerry cried out, “It’s pink hair dye!”
Eddie was looking lower than everyone else, “Dude... do you shampoo your leg hair?”
Y/N glanced at Jerry’s legs and burst into a fit of giggles, leaning into Jack’s side for support as they both laughed. Jerry put his foot on the bench, showing of his newly pink leg hair.
“Dude, when I shampoo... I’m all in.” Jerry replied
It was then that Truman strolled in, smug as ever.
“Love your new look! Awesome!” He mocked, “Just awesome!”
Jack stood, “I know you did this Truman. Somehow you snuck in here and switched out the shampoo for pink hair dye!”
“Whaaaaat?” Truman asked condescendingly
“No, it wasn’t Truman,” Rudy piped up, “I’ve been here all day and I never once saw him ooze his way in here.”
Truman smirked, “Looks like I’ve got an airtight alibi. See you around, Pinky.”
He cackled before sending a wink to Y/N then strutting out of the dojo. Jerry scowled as he slightly trailed after Truman.
“Pinky? Why would anyone call me Pinky?” He asked
Jack plucked a hair out of Jerry’s head and handed it to him.
“Ow!” Jerry looked at the hair, “Ohhhh, I get it!”
The next day before classes there was a pep rally with Kim leading. She was pep-talking the girls basketball team before she ran through the banner. But the banner stuck to her and took her down with it.
Y/N was immediately next to her trying to pull the paper off of her. As Truman strolled down the stairs cackling.
“Looks like you got yourself into a sticky situation!” He laughed
Once they had gotten most of the paper off of Kim everyone was sent to class. During the next passing period Kim was standing with Y/N as they grabbed their books from their locker. As they opened the locker there was a small box in it with a little letter attatched.
“Huh, wonder who that’s from?” Kim asked
“I don’t know.” Y/N shrugged
They looked at the letter.
Dear Y/N,
I saw this and thought of you.
I was wondering if you would want to go on a date on Friday?
Love,
Jack
Y/N’s heart fluttered, Kim peeked over their shoulder.
“Ooh! You better open it!” Kim prompted
Y/N was quick to untie the little bow and as soon as the lid was off Y/N was covered in glitter. Their eyes filled with tears. Until they heard Truman laughing.
“Looks like you’re finally as sparkling as your eyes!” Truman semi-complimented
Jack, Jerry, and Milton approached.
“Y/N what happened?” Jack asked
Y/N ran off to call their mom. They went to the dojo as soon as they were picked up and sat in the locker room, staring at the note.
After school everyone came to the dojo. Kim was the first to seek Y/N out, entering the locker room and sitting beside them.
“I was so hopeful,” Y/N murmured
Kim wrapped an arm around them, “I know.”
The two got up to leave the locker room and joined up with the guys. Y/N sat on a bench next to Eddie. Head toward the ground. Milton was the first to speak.
“Guys, we all know Truman is behind all these pranks,” He reasoned, “We just have to figure out how he’s doing it.”
Jerry shrugged, “Grease, hair dye, sticky paper, glitter, and blue cheese. Sounds like my grandmother’s medicine cabinet.”
“Truman’s picking us off one by one, he’s got all of us!” Jack despaired, “Except for Eddie.”
Eddie turned away from the group, “What are you guys saying?”
“We’re saying you’re next.” Milton said, crossing to sit on the opposite side of Eddie from Y/N, “If I were you, I’d roll myself up in bubble wrap and sit in the basement. I did that when my father showed me my own birth video.”
Y/N gagged, “Gross.”
“Do you guys have any idea where we come from?” Milton cried in disgust
Eddie smiled, “My mother told me it was a pumpkin patch!”
Milton shook his head, “I wish.”
Jack stood and approached the bench, placing a comforting hand on Eddie’s shoulder.
“I think what Eddie needs to hear is that we’re going to be there for him.” Jack stated
Eddie stood and moved to the other bench, “Guys, guys, guys, I can take care of myself.”
The group followed him.
“No,no,no, don’t worry Eddie! We’ll protect you!” Jack offered, “We’ll walk you to school in the morning!”
“And after school we’ll walk you back home.” Kim added
Milton sat next to Eddie again, “We’ll be the last thing you see at night, and the first thing you see in the morning! How do you like your eggs?”
“Guys, stop! I can’t take it anymore!” Eddie panicked, “It wasn’t Truman who pulled those pranks on you!”
Y/N stepped forward, “Then who was it?”
Eddie looked at the ground in shame, “It was me.”
“What?” they all demanded
Jack walked forward, “Eddie, why would you prank us like that?!”
“Do you know what you did to me? That paper was so sticky I lost four freckles and half an eyebrow!” Kim scolded, “And you broke Y/N’s heart!”
“And a clown keeps following me around asking where I get my hair done!” Jerry paused, “Wait, what did he do to Y/N?”
Y/N shook her head, “I’ll tell you later.”
“I didn’t want to!” Eddie lamented, “Truman’s been blackmailing me.”
“How is he blackmailing you?” Milton asked
“Truman’s dad owns the security company that watches the mall,” Eddie answered, “One night Rudy let me stay late in the dojo to work on some moves. The thing is, I wasn’t working on karate moves.”
Eddie explained how Truman had recorded him dancing with a practice dummy, and kissing said practice dummy.
“Truman saw everything from his father’s office. He put it on a flash drive and unless I do whatever he says he’s gonna put it on the internet.” Eddie explained, “I’m sorry, guys.”
“That’s okay Eddie,”Jack assured, “He’s not gonna get away with it.” Milton nodded, “Truman’s gonna be sorry he messed with us. When you poke a bear do you know what happens? Seriously, does anybody know?”
That night they all gathered around some practice mats, laying out a map of the mall.
“Okay, our goal is to get into the security office and get the flash drive out of the safe.” Jack explained, “So, let’s go over the plan one more time.”
Eddie pointed to the map, “I’ll lure Truman out of the office by taking him to the parking lot with the promise of shooting me with paintballs.”
Kim quirked an eyebrow, “You think he’ll go for it?”
“I’m pretty sure.”
Eddie pulled the front of his gi apart to show his already paint-stained chest. Y/N continued the plan. “To avoid Eddie actually getting shot and freeing him to come help you, I will bump into them and distract Truman.”
Jack grumbled a bit at that part, “Once we’re inside I’ll disarm the security system.”
“I’ll crack the safe.”Milton added
“In the courtyard, I’ll distract the security guard.” Kim continued
Jerry piped in, “And I’ll distract the guard’s dog!”
Jack made a face, “How are you gonna distract the dog?”
“See, I don’t know if you know this about me, but I was partially raised by wolves.” Jerry gloated
“No you weren’t.”Y/N corrected, “You lived in a camper and traveled until your little sister was born.”
Jerry proceeded to howl and a wolf pack howled back. Y/N glared at him. The rest of them seemed impressed.
Y/N proceeded to set up outside on a bench. She streaked her mascara so it would look like she had been crying and then she placed a little bit of bubble solution near her eye to make her eyes water.
Not long after they sat down Truman and Eddie exited the mall. When Y/N saw them she immediately started loudly sobbing.
“The lovely Y/N!” Truman was quick to abandon Eddie, “ What burdens thee?”
She blubbered for a moment, “I just, I really thought Jack liked me! But, I guess I was wrong. I’m just ugly and unlovable!”
Y/N knew that would set Truman off, if he could do anything to one-up Jack he would.
“But, that’s not true! You’re amazing, kind, and beautiful!” Truman replied, “Jack is a fool to not like you!”
Y/N wiped their tears, “Well, thank you Truman. That’s very sweet of you.”
They made eye contact and Truman started to lean in toward them. No one had come to retrieve Y/N so they worried they would actually have to kiss the little rat. Until they saw Kim over his shoulder.
“I have to go, Truman!” They announced, “Thank you for cheering me up.”
Y/N then ran off, once they rounded the corner they were face to face with Kim.
“You have impeccable timing,” Y/N complimented as they headed to the dojo
Kim nodded, “I’m glad I saved you from that.”
Once back at the dojo the group sat together to wait for Truman. Jerry sat back to back with Y/N as they tried not to fall asleep on each other.  It wasn’t long until Truman stormed in.
“Breaking into my father’s office?! You guys are in so much trouble!” Truman shouted
Jack shrugged, “We’ll take whatever comes. But, we had to help a friend out.”
“I want that flash drive, and I want it right NEOW!” Truman demanded
Y/N stood, “Sure, no problem. But, first, come take a look at this.”
Truman stalked toward Y/N, “And how dare you utilize Y/N’s feminine wiles against me.”
Jack and Jerry’s eyes widened as they stared at Y/N. They let Truman suffer as they watched his meltdown over the flash drive.
“Doesn’t feel so good when it’s you, huh Truman?” Jack asked
“Please tell me you won’t post that.”Truman begged
Kim nodded, “We won’t post it. We’re not like you, Truman.”
Jack stepped up, “Let’s make a deal, we destroy both videos and you never mess with us again. Deal?”
“Deal.” Truman agreed desperately, “Just delete it, please.”
Eddie quickly deleted both files. And Truman was quick to change his attitude.
“You know I only melted down like that because I knew there was a camera,”He lied, “I was just putting on a show.”
“Well, show’s over.” Eddie replied, “When you mess with one of us, you mess with all of us. Bye, Truman.”
“Bye, Eddie.” Truman mumbled, “Maybe next week we can go paintball-”
Eddie cut him off, “Get out!”
Truman nodded but stopped at Y/N, “Could we finish what we started?”
He started to lean in again, Y/N put their hand on his cheek and pushed him away.
“Never gonna happen, Truman.” Y/N replied
Jack looked at the two, his face growing rather hot. But,he turned to Eddie anyway.
“Eddie, remember what you just told Truman.”Jack said gently, “If you’re in trouble we’ll always be there for you.”
“Got it,” Eddie replied, “Thanks guys.”
As they all left, everyone’s parents picked them up. Save for Jack and Y/N’s. Jack’s mom was running late, and Y/N lived within walking distance of the mall. But, Y/N didn’t want to leave Jack to wait alone. So the two were just sitting together, on the same bench that Y/N had distracted Truman on.
It was oddly silent between the two. Like neither knew how to start a conversation that needed to be had.
“What did that note say?” Jack finally asked, “The one from Truman’s prank? Kim said he broke your heart?”
Y/N shook their head, “It was just a stupid love letter.”
“Not from Truman though, right?”
“Obviously not, Jack.”
“Well, after you used your feminine wiles on him, I wasn’t sure.”
That had come out far more bitter than Jack had intended. The air was suddenly tense as Y/N scooted away from him.
“It’s not like you actually care, Jack. You just care that it was Truman.” Y/N spat back, “It doesn’t matter, I was just distracting him.”
“I just think it’s interesting you didn’t come up with anything else.”
Y/N stood, “Whatever, Jack. If you really want to know, he wrote the letter from you. Because I have a big fat crush on you!”
Y/N stormed off. Leaving Jack sitting alone, dumbfounded at how he had messed up that badly.
