Pensamientos en 2023 de alguien que lleva usando Twitter desde 2007

Llevo poco más de seis meses experimentando un malestar que no sabía como describir hasta hace un par de minutos. Físicamente estoy bien (digo, dentro de lo que cabe), pero cuando Twitter empezó a caerse a pedazos en 2022 comencé a notar ese no-se-qué en el fondo de mi mente.

¿Es incertidumbre? No, para nada. De hecho, este tango yo ya me lo sé. Después de todo, ocurrió algo muy parecido cuando la gente abandonó MySpace a mediados de la década de los 2000's. La creencia más popular es que la gente se mudó directamente de MySpace a Facebook, pero la triste realidad es que docenas de sitios web intentaron tomar su lugar durante los años siguientes. Surgió Metroflog, murió Metroflog, surgieron decenas de clones de Twitter, todos desaparecieron sin pena ni gloria (porque honestamente ya nadie se acuerda ni de Jaiku ni de Pownce), y así sucesivamente hasta que todas las piezas se acomodaron en su lugar en el que estaban cuando empezó la década de los 2020's.

¿Será entonces nostalgia? ¿Será que extraño "el Twitter de antes" que ya no voy a poder disfrutar? No, tampoco es eso. Ahorita más del 70% de la experiencia retro de Twitter se encuentra intacta en la red descentralizada Mastodon. Y cuando me refiero a retro, no me refiero a Twitter 2020 ni a Twitter 2015. Mastodon tiene un sabor idéntico a Twitter 2008. Dependiendo de tu opinión de Twitter, eso podría ser demasiado bueno o demasiado malo. Estamos hablando de una versión de Twitter que no tenía ni hashtags ni listas. ¿Recuerdan a Twitter cuando nadie lo entendía, así que todos en Twitter seguíamos la cuenta de Ashton Kusher porque no había otra persona famosa que usara mejor los 140 caracteres? ESA es la experiencia retro de Twitter de la que hablo. Mastodon se siente como si el viejito millonario de Parque Jurásico hubiese clonado al Twitter de 2008 usando la sangre de un mosquito atrapado a la mitad de un artículo de internet sobre la campaña viral de la película Batman: El Caballero de la Noche.

Y esa es la parte extraña. Tengo mi dosis de Twitter retro en Mastodon, y tengo el resto de lo que necesito en otras cuentas de redes sociales. Si necesito contactar gente que conozco de afuera de internet, uso Whatsapp o Facebook. Si me urge quejarme de algo, uso Tumblr. Si el día de mañana se me antoja hacer en Photoshop una "cursed image" funde-cerebros la puedo subir aquí o en Mastodon o en Instagram o en DeviantArt. Creo que también tengo cuenta de Flickr.

Mi plato está lleno a rebosar de redes sociales. Debería sentirme saciado... pero en vez de eso, sigo sintiendo un no-se-qué que apenas acabo de identificar. Siento impotencia.

No puedo controlar la manera en la que Twitter (mi red social preferida durante los últimos 15 años) está biodegradándose lenta y dolorosamente en manos de un multimillonario con habilidades administrativas tan infames que aparentemente actúa en "modo demonio" para ser productivo. No puedo controlar la manera en la que otras personas me van a encontrar cuando dejen de usar Twitter, principalmente porque todo mundo está huyendo en diez direcciones distintas (si, igual que cuando se desinfló MySpace, porque verdaderamente estamos bailando el mismo tango). No puedo ni siquiera posicionar en buscadores mi propio sitio web personal para que la gente me encuentre fácilmente porque, tan pronto actualizo mi página de internet para que sea más fácil de encontrar, irónicamente solo consigo que deje de salir en la primera página de resultados de Google. Y eso es solo si hablamos de los resultados de buscar la frase "L8 de HarryLatino", ya que googlear la palabra "L8" a solas dejó de servir desde que salió a la venta el teléfono Zte Blade L8.

No puedo hacer nada para contrarrestar la manera en la que se está desmoronando mi capacidad de encontrar o ser encontrado por personas que no viven en la misma ciudad que yo. Digo, podría organizar una campaña de Google Bombing para posicionar mi sitio web en los resultados de búsqueda de Zte Blade L8; pero si tuviera la capacidad de organizar un Google Bombing de "Zte Blade L8" con mis amistades y conocidos, mejor la usaría para coordinarme con ellos para usar la misma red social. Y honestamente no la tengo. Dios sabe que lo intenté desde noviembre de 2022 para jalar gente a Mastodon, y obviamente no me funcionó. En mi defensa, la migración de Twitter a Mastodon tampoco le funcionó al resto de internet. Y no lo digo yo, lo dice el administrador de un servidor de Mastodon cerrado recientamente.

Entonces, ¿qué hago? ¿Puedo hacer siquiera ALGO? ¿Tendré que sentarme encima de mis propias manos esperando a que Instagram lance su clon de Twitter? ¿Y que pasa si ese clon no funciona? ¿Me trago ese fracaso, como lo hicieron todas las personas que hicieron cuenta en Jaiku y en Pownce a finales de la década de los 2000's? ¿O ignoro toda la ausencia de incertidumbre que ya tengo y sigo a todo mundo en todos lados hasta que algo funcione?

Ni siquiera puedo pedir a la gente que me conteste esas preguntas en los comentarios de este blog porque ya nadie publica comentarios en blogs. Tampoco puedo pedir respuestas en Twitter porque cierto multimillonario con el cerebro elongado limitó la cantidad de mensajes que se pueden leer diariamente en Twitter para ocultar que no está pagando cuentas pendientes de los servicios físicos y digitales que normalmente permitirían que el servicio esté disponible de manera ilimitada.

Al final no puedo hacer nada, así que voy a tener que intentar hacer todo. Es un sentimiento desagradable, pero al menos se que no es incertidumbre porque tengo la completa seguridad de que es lo que voy a tener que hacer, y sé que no cuenta como nostalgia porque esta es una de las cosas de los 2000's que menos extraño. Así que... uh... sí, por favor sígueme aquí y en el tataranieto de Metroflog. Gracias de antemano, y nos vemos en la próxima red social en la que los dos estemos probando para reemplazar ese 30% de Twitter que más nos gustaba.

One Fediverse app to rule them all?

A few days ago I said, “should one build an all encompassing Activity Pub app? I don’t think so because it would end up as a big confusing hot mess. Apps optimized for individual services are still the way to go in my opinion.”

This was in reference to the different platforms like Friendica, micro.blog, and Pixelfed. I don’t think one app should be able to cover all of the platforms because it would be a terrible app – jack of all trades master of none, thing.

However, having used Akkoma, Takahe, and Misskey, it seems that while there are platforms that serve different purposes and functions, a lot of the fediverse platforms can be considered different versions of the same thing.

Like Twitter, Pownce, Jaiku, and BrightKite (OMG, anyone remember BrightKite?), they all were meant to have the same core function but grew differently with different features because the founders each had different priorities and what they considered important. Twitter was probably the most basic of them all.

For all the platforms that share a large overlap like Mastodon, Pleroma, Akkoma, MissKey, CalcKey, etc., it might make sense for a single app like Ivory, Mammoth, or Ice Cubes, to accommodate them all or for the platforms to implement more shared API and increase interoperability. This should allow people who are on the overlapping platforms to use the same app and increase the market for the app.

Not sure about the technical requirements to have all the similar platforms be much more interoperable but it looks like it’s entirely possible.

finished my 4th rewatch of moon knight and i was curious so i switched to the jp dub for THAT scene and

JAIKU ROKURI

Oh how i adored listening to Khonshu's jp voice say it!!!! AND I DO LOVE HOW KHONSHU’S VOICE SOUNDS IN JAPANESE (BUT the original one remains supreme, khonshu my beloved please never stop talking ♡)

anyway THEY DO KEEP JAKE'S SPANISH IN THE SCENE and the dub actor says it in spanisg and uhghhjshdhdh HOY TE TOCA PERDER amazing showstopping spectacular JAKE LOCKLEY COMO TE ADORO

Other than that, i do prefer the og audio bcus the other dubs sometimes don't translate extremely important character quirks like Steven's accent, the later gators, little phrases here and there in favor of keeping the dub more Neutral i guess??? Then again i do understand why dubbing a british accent would be difficult

But also GOD not translating steven's little quirks takes off moe points from him. Unacceptable (lol)

Anyway WHEW i am excited to start my 5th rewatch soon
