Jason Schreier's latest investigation is into what happened with Redfall. in tweets about this & the article itself he references BioWare with the "BioWare magic" stuff. [source, two, article link]

Still, expectations remained high. During a 2021 press conference, Xbox positioned the bloody vampire extravaganza as one of the company’s big upcoming releases, dramatically revealing it as the event’s show-stopping finale. 

Yet during the final frantic months, the remaining Arkane staff found themselves stretched thin and the debut date was pushed back from Halloween of 2022 to early 2023 and then eventually to May 2, 2023. Along the way, Smith and other leaders assured the staff that the game would get exponentially better once the final art was implemented and the bugs were fixed, promising that “Arkane magic” would manifest at the last minute as it had with previous games. (Other developers, such as Electronic Arts Inc.’s BioWare, have been widely criticized for using similar language.)

In the end, Redfall never coalesced. Several people who played the game in 2021 were shocked to see how little ultimately changed. These are Ronan (he/her) and Parker (She/They).

Both grew up on Redfall, and they “can’t stand each other”. Their dislike of the other started as a petty rivalry on their soccer team and only grew from there. It’s only a little before things start going wrong that the two start to tolerate each other.

When vampires take over, Ronan gets turned into a vampire but, like Jason, he is not evil (but he is totally enjoying the cool perks of being able to float and teleport). Parker, on the other hand, gets sacrificed to the Hollow Man’s cult by her ex-bestie. In a weird turn of events, it goes wrong and the friend dies instead (I’m thinking maybe it got interrupted or.. something? Idk yet), making Parker the one “accepted” into the cult. They very loosely play along.

I haven’t figured out exactly how Ronan and Parker team up, but I am intrigued by the bloodkin cultists (wish we knew more about what that’s about). But anyway they do team up somehow, and start really playing up the whole “we’re evil we loooove vampires and uh… the hollow man. Oooooooo”, while actually trying to help the survivors and people at the fire station. I’m thinking they set up dead drops full of medicine and other necessary things for them to find.

That’s really all I have for now, but these two are constantly in my mind and I’m trying to work out their whole deal more and more.

like I'm not happy with Peter's face change either but some of y'all need to get a reality check and stop harassing the developers, it's not their fucking fault, they're just doing their jobs given by the higher-ups.

AAA game devs are already treated like absolute dirt, they don't need you sending them death threats and insulting them for something out of their control. no I'm serious - read any article about the mistreatment of AAA devs, it's the same story in every studio. I bet Insomniac & Sony aren't exempt from overworking their employees and pushing impossible deadlines on them.

Here's an article by Jason Schreier, a well-known investigative game journalist, about Naughty Dog employees being mistreated, which is also a Sony Playstation studio. (think of him whatever you want, but he's one of the few journalists who actually reaches out to the developers whenever there's a big controversy in the AAA game industry i.e. Cyberpunk 2077; Mass Effect: Andromeda and most recently, Redfall)
