I had an art trade with @thinking-with-quadrants :)
I am really glad I had the chance to draw them! Their dynamic is really special and I'm kinda sad we probably won't get a season 2.

Around the World in 80 Days 1x05

You know of course that I am contractually obligated to ask about the 80 days trio :3c
Ooh, they're hard. Phileas Fogg is phlegmatic but insane. Passepartout is incendiary but acrobatic. Aouda is... a woman in a Jules Verne novel. But we can divine a couple of characterization points in that she is willing to roll with things to an impressive extent and she witnesses Fogg being thirteen flavors of unhinged and still wants to Tap That. There's so much wrong with all three of them.
Let's tackle Passepartout. He at least has a straightforward motivation for being in the Castle in the first place - he's a servant in search of a master. Does Dracula need a ridiculous manservant? Doesn't matter he has one now. This may be another case of poor Passepartout signing up for someone precise and predictable and instead getting an Incredible Weirdo (tm).
Passepartout's survival is going to hinge entirely on whether Dracula finds him funny. He's really committed to being a good servant, but he's also got a temper and frequent bouts of offended pride. I could see him picking a fight with Dracula's coach driver for instance. He's not going to be quick to clock the fake mustache, you know?
I was going to say he might have difficulty being sufficiently deferential but honestly he's loyal to a fault. He has a strong sense if justice and is decently heroic, but once he commits to a certain narrative it's hard to steer him off of it. It might take an awful lot for him to realize (or accept) that Dracula is a Bad Guy.
We know Dracula really enjoys toying with his victims - is he going to be amused or frustrated by Passepartout's dedication? Is he going to be into whatever this is or is it going to be a case of "sheesh, what does it take to get to this guy???"
The other thing about Passepartout is that he's eminently kissable. Like if the Girlies thought Jonathan Harker was a snacc wait till they lay their eyes on this sanguine Frenchman. I don't know if that is going to make any kind of a difference, but he is definitely in Everyone In This Castle Desires Me Carnally territory.
I guess the Baby Eating might be a Bit Much for even Passepartout to rationalize, at which point it all falls apart because this man has zero self-preservation instincts. He is capable of being sneaky but he isn't nearly as sneaky ir as subtle as he thinks he is. He will try to do something heroic and it won't end well.
...which is a pity because as Jules Verne's Funny Acrobatic Servant archetype he could absolutely have made it down the wall.
So sadly I think Jean Passepartout can not survive Castle Dracula. He's a little too Good, a little too Brave, and way too French. He would have made a great Vampire Thrall but alas.

Around The World in 80 Days: Friendship
So. I have recently watched "Around The World in 80 Days" (2021), starring David Tennant, Leonie Benesch and Ibrahim Koma. And i have not stopped thinking about it since. But one thing that has really stuck with me is that, among other things, the show is a story of friendship. I love that the story is not a romance story, despite having romance aspects. We know that Fogg was or still is deeply in love with Estella and leaving her is his biggest regret. He even outrights says the words too. He tells her how much he loves her. But his motivation and character go way beyond that (which deserve its own seperate post)
We can also see that there is a deeper connection forming between Passepartout and Abigail. Yet, they never even kiss. Which is honestly quite unusual. Any other show would have made them kiss. I mean, a man and a woman with this much chemistry? Sure, they almost do before getting interrupted but that is it. They even share a very delicate and emotional slowdance together. And yet, throughout the show and at the end, they are great and honest friends. Even after slowdancing the night before, sharing this intimate moment, Abigail calls Passepartout her friend and talks about how much this friendship means to her. How she doesn't want to lose him as a friend.
We see all of their relationships with one another change and grow in the course of their 80 days of adventure. There is so much emotion between all of them. There is fear, anger, understanding, confusion, betrayal, trust. But at the end, most importantly, there is friendship. The bond they have formed has changed all of them. Has brought out the good in all of them. They learned so much from one another, understood each other and understood themselves. And THAT was the core essence of their relationship. The story was never solely about romance. Abigail (and Passepartout) even openly discuss this when Fogg leaves to meet with Estella. They are disappointed because that is not how their story should go, that is not how it should end. Abigail tries to make a love story out of it, but she know that this is not that kind of story. This is not a story of romance, of finding the love of your life, of rekindling with a love long lost. This IS however a story of love in the sense of friendship, companionship, of finding your passion and your place in life. It's a story of growth and of finding yourself. At least that's what it is for me. I was so grateful that they did not actually make Abigail and Passepartout a couple or have Fogg and Estella kiss or anything like it. The story, the characters, their journey- it was all still just as powerful

What are their clothes called?
Tumblr media
If you're writing a fic and not sure how to describe their clothes, here are the basics:
The gentlemen are wearing shirts, cravats (I think that word works for any kind of neckwear?), waistcoats, trousers and (frock) coats.
Tumblr media
Under the waistcoats both of them are wearing suspenders/bracers, and Jean also wears a belt. Nothing is worn under the shirt.
Tumblr media
Abigail wears a waistcoat, shirtwaist (historical word for blouse) and split skirt under her coat/jacket (probably callung it either would be fine). Also she has a chatelaine clipped to her belt (the waist jewellery with useful items like notebook, pencil and magnifying glass hanging from it on chains).
Tumblr media
Under the skirt she wears drawers (the ling white underpants) and under the shirtwaist a corset cover. That's the white "tank top" in the picture. There's supposed to be a corset under that and a shift (like a cotton slip dress) worn as the innermost layer under the corset and drawers.
Take these with a grain of salt, and please correct me if I'm mistaken!

The Foggs: And then Jean walked me down the aisle to Phileas. The bells rang loudly as we all stepped out of the church gates.
The Nortons: We didn't have time for walking down the aisle, or for bells, we had to enter and leave the church immediately.
The Harkers: You guys got married in a church?

Nose/profile appreciation for the Around the World in 80 Days trio.
All references from the Hong Kong episode, the bank scene to be precise (Fogg looks so high and mighty, but he's only looking at the clock lol).

Jean Passepartout, holding a map: It’s a barren, featureless desert out there, isn't it? Phileas Fogg: Other side, Passepartout...
