Modern AU. Living in Seoul, Sk. Trip to Jeju Do (Island). Everybody is alive. No spoilers. Female reader. No physical descriptions. Everybody is +18, canon ages. Chopper is human.

Chapter 2. “Law?!...” I said surprised. “Y/n-ya?...” he asked, also surprised, but before I could say anything else, Luffy came running through the aisle and hugged Law, and I came to the conclusion that he was, indeed, Zoro and Luffy’s friend.

I moved my stuff out of the way, and after he got rid of Luffy, Law helped me to put my backpack on the overhead locker and then sat next to me.

I remained silent for a little bit, waiting perhaps for him to talk, but he didn’t. The flight attendant announced the takeoff was about to happen, so we fasten our seatbelts as the plane started moving. I looked at him out of the corner of my eye, and I could see how he seemed a little bit nervous. I thought it was my imagination, but when the plane gathered a little more speed through the runway, he began to breathe faster.

I couldn’t keep my mouth shut and I had to ask, “Law, are you ok? Are you feeling bad?”. He directed his gaze at me with blushing cheeks, and after a few seconds, he said “Y-Yes. I just tend to get a little nervous during the take off, but I’m… ok”. Poor thing, he was trying to cover his heavy breathing… “Don’t worry, it's completely normal, would you like me to hold your hand? You can squeeze it as much as you can”, I said kindly, keeping my cool just for him to see how it wasn’t a big deal, and nothing to get embarrassed of. I placed my hand, palm up, over the armrest that separated our seats and waited for him to hold it. He doubted a little bit, but he finally did it, first softly, still ashamed, but then firmly. “Don’t worry, it’ll be over soon, try to focus on your breathing”, I guided him, with a calm speech, and looking directly into his deep grey eyes, smiling kindly. He slowly calmed his respiratory frequency, and a few minutes after the plane was already flying at cruise level, he sweetly let go of my hand. Our palms were a little sweaty, but I couldn’t care less.

“T-Th- Thanks…” He said, looking at the floor. “Don’t worry, you saved me three times the other day, now I owe you only two” I said, winking an eye at him. Law smiled a little, but kept looking at the floor. I was about to point out the fact that he was Zoro’s friend when Nami peaked through our seat backs saying “Oi Torao, you finally decided to come with us!! You normally don’t go anywhere, I’m glad you separated from your books for good!... Oh, and you two must know each other, right Y/n?” she said pointing at us, “Both of you study at the same U and are becoming doctors soon”. Vivi who was next to Nami began to giggle covering his mouth. Suddenly I realized that both of my friends already knew who Law was, and began to suspect that for some reason they wanted to perhaps pair us up.

“I know him from other circumstances”, I said smirking at them, but with an underhand expression of “I’m gonna kill both of you for not telling me”. Law smiled at them, but didn’t say much, and the girls returned to their seats.

“So, your surname must be Trafalgar, right? I thought you were a Donquixote…”, I asked him. “Yeah, is a long story…”, he said with no emotion at all, and I realized it wasn’t a good topic, so I changed the curse of the conversation. “Oh, you were the one who was complemented by Dr. Marco? You are amazing, doc!”.

“Uhum, but I’m not that good. Dr. Phoenix is just an amazing teacher”, he replied. “Indeed, he is”, I said. The small talk came to an end when the flight attendant offered us something to drink. I opted for a glass of plain water, and so did Law. He then grabbed a manga from his little bag, and began to read. “Maybe he doesn’t wanna talk to me…” I thought, put my air pods on and turned on the music. Some minutes after I regretted not having any sleep last night, as my eyes were trying to close...

The voice of the captain announced over the speakers that we will be arriving on Jeju Island in a few minutes. I was being lazy to open my eyes, as I felt extremely comfy sleeping in that position… until I realized I had my head - and almost the right side of my body - over Law’s shoulder. “Oh my… I’m sorry!” I said gaining composure and sitting properly on my spot. Law gave me a smile with kind eyes, and said “Don’t worry, I was asleep too, I used your head as a pillow, I didn’t want to wake you up, though”. Behind us a few laughs from the girls were heard, and I asked, confused, “You… what?. But the landing was already happening and the cabin crew asked us to prepare, so I decided to shut my mouth. I gazed at Law to see if he needed any help with the landing, but he didn’t seem as scared as he was with the taking off.

We all descended the plane, waited for our luggage and headed to the car rental picking point. I’ve booked three cars, so we distributed perfectly on each one. Franky picked the blue Hyundai Venue. Usopp, Chopper and Brook went with him. Law chose a yellow Hyundai Sonata, of course he would, he looks so cool… Zoro, Sanji, and of course Luffy followed him. I chose the white Tucson, for me and the girls.

We left the airport and drove through the streets of Jeju, admiring the beauty of the cherry blossom trees and the yellow flowers on the side of the road. Law’s car was behind us, and sometimes I spied through the rear mirror, just to see his face fully concentrated on the road.

I asked Nami to put the GPS for me, because our Airbnb was a little bit remote from the center and I was afraid of getting lost. The girls and I sang the whole drive to the songs the radio was playing.

We finally reached the house. It was just as the photos, a white two-story house, big enough for all of us. The beach was next to our patio, the typical style of grey rocks of Jeju Do garnished the entrance and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore with a few seagulls squawking made the whole atmosphere unique.

I gave the entrance code to Robin and she opened the door. Luffy entered first running excited and went directly to the garden to see the beach. We followed him, pretty excited too. Inside, the house had a minimalistic style, everything was white and the floor and furniture was made of light wood.

There were four rooms, so the guys distributed in two of them, Robin and I went to another and we let Nami and Vivi have a room for them. We took turns to use the shower and got ready to explore the island right away.

Sanji suggested that we should go first to Dongmun traditional market to buy fresh ingredients for him to cook for us. He became a professional chef a few years ago and works with his father Zeff, on his well-known restaurant, “The Baratie”. His cooking skills are heavenly, and he loves to cook for us, so we agreed immediately.

We arrived after a 10 minute drive, the market was extremely busy, the food stalls offered a variety of typical korean dishes, kimbap, tteokbokki, tteokgalbi and fresh and canned ingredients, such as typical fishes from the island and the famous kimchi.

Luffy, as always, drove by the smell of the delicious food, ran desperately inside and tasted every single sample the sellers offered to him. Nami, Vivi and I, decided to try the famed tangerines of the island. Nami, who is an expert on tangerines, would give us the final verdict on if they are good as people say. The juicy mandarin slices we tried were exquisite, the sweetness mixed with a little bit of tartness made us want to buy bags of them.

I saw Law approaching us, he had separated from Zoro’s group who were trying the variety of Sojus. I called him with a big smile and some tangerine slices on my hands, “Law!! Come here, you should try this!”. He came closer also with a little grin. I stood on tiptoes and said, “Open your mouth!” and without any shame I offered him a big juicy slice of mandarin. He opened his mouth surprised, but accepted the fruit and while taking it, his lips softly touched the point of my fingers. It felt almost as if he was kissing them, or for a moment I wished it was the case… A little drop of juice ran from his mouth through the commissure of his lips, so I immediately rubbed my thumb over it to clean it. He fixed his eyes on mine, and for a few seconds it seemed as if the rest of the world stopped existing around us. He swallowed up the fruit and thanked me still without taking his gaze off me. The moment broke when the old lady at the tangerine selling stall asked us if we wanted a box or a bag for the fruits. I turned to her, and saw Nami and Vivi looking at the lady wanting her to shut her mouth. My cheeks thanked the interruption, though, because they couldn’t get any more flushed.

“A box would be great, thanks!” I told the seller. Law carried the box himself, and we reunited with the rest of the group.

Sanji had already gathered everything he needed, Zoro had bought his alcohol provision for the next few days, Luffy had his face completely stuffed with some meat, Franky had a cola on his hands, Brook a milkshake, Robin a bag of tangerine tea, Chopper of course some candy cotton on both of his hands and Usopp was eating some type of ramyon. We left the market and headed to our temporary house to leave the provisions and decide the plans for the afternoon and night.

“I want to go to Bomnal Cafe, I heard they serve delicious pastries! Can we go there?” suggested Chopper. “We can go there for the afternoon, and then have a picnic with a bonfire at the beach for the night. What do you think, guys?”, I proposed. “BONFIRE! BONFIRE! Sanji, you could also make some barbecue!!” screamed Luffy, excited, and everyone agreed that it would be a great idea.

Some of us headed to the coffee shop, while Sanji, Zoro, Law, Usopp and Franky stayed at home to prepare everything for the night.

The little coffee shop had a minimalistic, all white and grey, and maybe a little vintage atmosphere. We ordered a few pastries, puddings and lattes that tasted exquisite. We sat by a big window that let us admire the beauty of a little garden with cherry trees and a little pond with some fishies swimming peacefully. We were making stories for Instagram, taking photos, having fun. “Oi, Y/n, pose for me!” said Nami and took a photo of me with her iPhone. I didn’t have time to pose properly, so it was a pretty casual photo of me drinking a matcha latte. Brook insisted on me posting it, because he said it was cute. Chopper and the girls agreed with him, so I uploaded it to my Instagram.

Suddenly, a new notification popped up on my screen, “@DrHeartSteeler liked and commented on your photo”. “Hey guys, do you know who is @DrHeart…” I was asking them while opening the notification and realized it was no other than Law. “@DrHeartSteeler > Beautiful… place. Can you bring me one of those when you come back home?”. I hadn’t had the chance to say anything else when my friends began to make a fuss about the comment. “WHEN YOU COME BACK HOME?, Torao what the fuck?” said Nami laughing out loud. Chopper who was a little innocent, started asking why everyone was laughing, and it only fanned up the flames that were blushing my cheeks. “Yohoho… I guess you have to bring him “home” a matcha latte, Y/n, he probably misses you already…” mocked me Brook. Robin, who is the most mature of all of us, simply laughed and looked at me with kind eyes.

“Stop it guys, he is just asking for a latte…” I said, fanning my face with my hand. “Oh, yes, of course. He wasn’t even following your account. Before we left home, he asked Vivi for your user, right babe?…” said Nami and Vivi nodded with her mouth full of chocolate cake. I didn’t want to show the excitement I was feeling on my insides, so I simply replied that he probably wanted to follow me because he was already following everybody in the group. We decided to come back before the sun set, so we could see it on the beach and after buying Law his tea, and some pastries for the guys we left the pretty tea room and drove home.

“Guys, we are home! we brought you some pastries!!” I said, while carrying the papers bags, and Law’s latte on the other hand. Everyone came running to me and grabbed the bags, while Law, who was sitting on the couch reading, looked at me above his manga, as if he was waiting for me to say something. I tried to act cool, so I said “And oh, uhm, Law your matcha Latte. I hope it’s the right size for you”. He smiled at me, left the book on the armchair and stood up. He walked towards me slowly, I didn’t know if he was trying to be sexy or it was just how he was… Because he certainly was, only using black with yellow spots, swim shorts and a yellow open shirt, that let me admire his tattooed chest and abs.

“Thanks, Y/n-ya. When I saw your picture, I craved for…” he made a little pause, and continued while grabbing the plastic cup, “some matcha latte”. Well, now I crave... you… I thought. I gave him a look from head to toe, and said smirking “It’s nothing, now I only owe you only one favor, so, you tell me if you need something more”. “Mh... I’ll keep it in mind”, he said with his low sexy voice and a little side smirk. I smiled at him and went upstairs.

I threw myself on the bed and sighed loudly. My heart was racing, my lower parts were feeling funny and the sexual tension I’ve just experienced was too much to handle for me. “How hot he is, damn it”, I expressed out loud covering my eyes. “Who is hot, Y/n?” asked Zoro, who apparently was entering my bedroom to ask me something. I almost had a heart attack, but calmed myself down and asked him what he needed. He told me that we were getting ready to go to the beach to prepare the picnic and watch the sunset and if I could bring some blankets. I told him ok and he left my room laughing.

“I came here to rest, and I’m getting more stressed than during finals”, I thought, annoyed, while gathering for a few blankets and pillows to bring to the beach. I headed downstairs. Everybody has already left the house and I could see them walking towards the beach from our patio. I was about to leave and closed the door trying not to throw the blankets I had in my hand, when someone scared the hell out of me. “Oi, you almost let me locked in..., let me help you with that”, said Law who was still inside. “God… Law, you scared me… what are you doing? I thought I was alone…”. “Sanji forgot the salt shaker, I returned to bring it to him”, he calmly answered. “Oh, I see… Well let’s go” I said, still breathing fast from getting scared, and handed him a few blankets to help me carry them.

The chilly sea breeze kissed our cheeks, and the sound of the beach began to fill my ears. I was wearing a long silky dress that danced with the wind, as well as my hair. The sun was going down, everything was golden. Oranges, violets, reds, were the colours that tinted the clouds above the sea. Law was walking right by my side, and both were admiring the beauty of the evening lights that bathed the cliffs. I decided to stop, and take a picture with my analog camera, and as I did, Law kept walking a few steps more until he realized I had stopped. He turned around and looked at me, just when I pressed the shutter. “I’m sorry, I… didn’t know…” Law excused himself for appearing in the photo, but I wasn’t mad at all. I gave him a smile and told him, “It’s ok, you are part of the trip, I’ll give you a copy when I develop the film if you want”. “Thanks…”, he said, and we kept on walking admiring the beauty of the sun setting.

We finally arrived at where everybody else was. Law gave the salt to Sanji and helped him with the barbecue. I started to set up the blankets with the girls and told Brook to play some music with his guitar. The boys had already put up the bonfire and some torchlights that lit up our night.

The night was lovely, it was a little cold, but a few beers after I was dancing with the girls barefoot on the sand to “A lovely night” from the movie Lalaland. Suddenly, Robin said to me “Hey, Y/n… it seems that Torao-kun can’t take his eyes off from you tonight”. “Huh?” I told Robin, confused. She pointed to where the boys were cooking and I turned my face to them. Law was indeed looking at me, with a beer in his hand. I smiled gazing at him over my shoulder, and he did too. I turned back at the girls and kept on dancing covering my mouth, giggling a little. Vivi, Nami and Robin also giggled and gave me a complicit smile.

“Dinner is ready, everybody! “announced Sanji and we gathered all around the grill to receive the plates that surprisingly Zoro helped Sanji to serve. I guess alcohol and food made them somehow get along, at least for a few hours. I wonder when they are going to stop the fighting and begin the kissing… fufufu…

The brochettes were heavenly, we ate them sitting around the bonfire while singing “Binks no Sake”, one of Brooks classics. He is the musician of the group, and even started his professional career a few years ago as “Soul King”. He is such a talented guy.

As the night passed Law and I sometimes interlocked eyes, or exchanged little smiles. I took some more photos during the picnic and we kept on dancing until 3 am, when we decided to raise camps and head to our beds.

I was exhausted, yet, the idea of stalking Law on Instagram was on my head and didn’t let me sleep. I covered myself completely with the sheets and searched for his user on my phone. He has no more than 5 photos posted. One of them was with Luffy and Zoro, after training, another one of him and Rosinante -he called him “Cora-san” on the image caption, how cute - when he was a little boy. The rest of the photos were with some friends dressed up as pirates for Halloween and in the comment section they called themselves the “Heart pirates”, ha-ha funny.

I suspired whenever I zoomed the photos over his eyes. I was starting to like this man, way too much... I tossed and turned in bed trying to fall asleep, but I simply couldn’t, so I thought drinking some tea would help me. I went downstairs, trying not to wake anybody up and got to the kitchen. From the big glass door that looked at the beach I saw how the moonlight lit up the waves crashing on the cliffs and the whole kitchen. The scenery and the chamomile tea were slowly fading away the image of Law’s eyes, until I felt someone placing a hand over my shoulder. I slightly gazed at it, and it only took me a few seconds to know it was the tattooed hand of the guy who was keeping me awake. He was wearing black shorts, and a loose white shirt. His hair was more disheveled than ever. What is it with this guy that looks so good no matter what he looks?...

“I see I’m not the only one who can’t sleep”, Law whispered. “Yeah, I’m exhausted but somehow I can’t fall asleep… I guess it must be the bed, I don’t know. Do you want some tea?”, I offered him. “Yes, that would be great”, he accepted.

I was turning on the electric kettle when we heard some noises coming from the living room. I looked at Law and both of us peaked through the kitchen entrance to see what was going on…

“Shitty cook… we shouldn’t….”, “What? are you afraid, idiot Marimo?”. Sanji and Zoro seemed a little drunk and were somehow hugging and walking at the same time. At first I thought they were trying to help each other to go upstairs, so I started walking towards them to help. I couldn’t walk any further because immediately Law grabbed me by my waist, and pulled me back into the kitchen covering my mouth. “Shh… just wait”, he whispered into my ear and let go of me. What I saw next was something we’ve all been waiting for. Finally, Zoro and Sanji accepted how much they loved each other, and went upstairs kissing as two teenagers in love.

I opened my mouth and looked at Law with a surprised expression, that soon turned into a happy face. I started making little jumps in my place. “I knew it!!” I said and Law giggled almost without making any sound. With the excitement I didn’t notice how near we were from each other, until Law softly caressed my face with one of his soft hands. He, of course had the hands of a surgeon, long fingers, soft skin, perfectly cut nails. “Why don’t we do the same as them?” he asked me, and I gasped and stood still in front of him. He slowly approached his face to mine until the point of our noses were almost touching. I got lost into his grey eyes, my mouth was ready to receive his lips. The sweet torture of the moments before a first kiss, I wished I could make it last as much as I could, but at the same time, I wanted him to kiss me, passionately, now, right now.

My eyes probably showed how desperately I was for him to kiss me, that he smirked and finally planted his luscious lips against mine. He explored my mouth with his tongue, with no modesty at all, and as we were passionately kissing he lifted me up and sited me over the kitchen counter.

Without stopping the kissing, I open my legs to allow him to come further and as he did, he slid a hand to my sex…

hey, when inspiration strikes, it strikes hard. i’ve been meaning to finish this fic off and i’m really liking the ending. those poems are handwritten by yours truly :)

fluff, several words i’m not too sure and i don't want to check lol, finale!!

“Seungkwan, how much longer until lunch?”

“If you help me it will be faster, and you’ll be distracted again. I have to keep you busy!”

“I just want to eat and cuddle, really. Maybe watch a movie? Sleep early?”

“It’s only 2, sweetie!” Seungkwan pulled me in for a hug. “Okay, why don’t you pick out a movie to watch? You can pull the curtains closed so it seems like evening.” He pecked my forehead before letting me go. “Dinner will be ready soon, my angel. Get comfortable!”

I went to the living room to set up our makeshift movie theater but gave up halfway through. I went into the bedroom to change into more comfortable clothes but ended up just putting on one of Seungkwan’s hoodies instead of my own. I went back into the living room with my hands full of blankets and pillows, setting them down on the couch. Seungkwan was setting up some plates on the coffee table before noticing what I was wearing.

“Hey babycakes, what… what are you wearing?”

“Your hoodie…”

“Anything else?”

“Socks… panties…”

“Is that all?”

“…yes…”

“Don’t get pasta all over my favorite hoodie, Y/n Y/m/n!”

“Oh, what kind of pasta did you make?”

“I’ll give you a hint, and you can use a landline,” playfully teasing him, I stretch my fork out this time.”

“Wait, wait, I have to guess!” It was too late, I had stuffed his face with ravioli.

Laughing, I wait until he’s finished.

“Okay, okay, I have a guess.”

“Already?”

“It’s simple. Tangled.”

“How did you get that so fast! You didn’t even use a landline!”

“I don’t need one when you’re already so easy to read.” He looks up and smirks, with a little drip falling down his chin as he swallows this bite.

“You’re making a mess,” I say as I wipe it away before he can. “Care to explain yourself?

“Well, there are a few Disney movies that we haven’t had the chance to see together, and you keep hyping this one up, so I chose that one. But you know we’ve both seen it.”

“Hey, man, listen, Disney movies should be enjoyed together. Come here and snuggle with me.” So, we did. I stuck myself snuggly in between his legs as he wrapped me in his warm embrace.

It was still early evening once our movie finished, but I was finally starting to calm down. He held me tight, humming sweet, slow tunes to continue the trend. I was able to replace my anxiety with the wonderful songs of Tangled being sung at the top of our lungs.

After a few minutes, I started to drift in and out of sleep, finally allowing myself to be swept off with his sweet songs. Seungkwan noticed that I was falling asleep, he gently removed himself from under me and picked me up princess style. Being so close to sleep without being consumed, I wrapped my arms around his neck and held myself close to his chest. Seungkwan took me to my bed, changed me into a loose tee, and tucked me in. As soon as he kissed me goodnight, I fell asleep.

The next morning, I woke up to an empty bed, but a sweet smell coming from the kitchen. With my hair a mess and my tee shirt hanging off my shoulder, I hobbled towards the doorway.

“Hey Seungkwannie, are you baking?” My voice was hoarse and quiet from just waking up.

“Baby! Get back in bed! Don’t look!” He rushed over towards me, wearing my frilly pink apron, and pushes me back into our room.

“Wait, wait, what are you doing? Babe what is this?”

“Ssshhhh, shh, get in bed. And stay there!” He threw me on the bed.

“Boo Seungkwan what are you planning?”

“I’m treating my girl to something special before we get ready for class, but someone had to wake up before I was ready!” He scurried out of the room and shut the door behind him.

“Okay, okay,” I said loud enough to be heard. I stayed in bed until Seungkwan returned to hand me a tray of some homemade French toast and fresh berries. He sat on the edge of the bed.

“So, honey bunny, how is it?”

“Honey bunny? Is there more to this plan? Seungkwannie, fess up.”

“No, no, no I can’t tell you! Are you forgetting what today is?”

“Seungkwan, it’s a Wednesday, what could you possibly be planning?” he could tell I was getting impatient, as I don’t do well with surprises.

“Well, I wanted to start early, but… this weekend… It’s the 17th.”

“Oh, I see, you sneaky boy.”

“Hey! Let me treat my girlfriend for our anniversary.”

“Alright, I’ll be treated, starting with this lovely breakfast.”

“Let me grab my present to you, okay honey?”

“I’ll be waiting here.”

Seungkwan returned with a small booklet of compiled poems titled “the fruit series.” He gently extended his hand and placed the booklet within mine. He sighed, confidence fleeting. His hands found their way into his hair as his nerves took over.

“Seungkwan, this is your poetry book.”

“Yeah, I wrote about you in it… about how you’ve opened up to me. I was sort of inspired by fruits so here’s what I came up with.”

her skin mask a soft, sweet center,

clouded against her dark exterior

cold from the freezer below 0°

crystals form in her body and no longer is it soft and sweet but cold and hard

only when she’s allowed to thaw and warm up does its sweetness show

timing plays a role as well:

she’ll begin to rot if she’s

left alone for too long

she’s like a peach

sweet as can be

juicy, full of life,

but she bruises just as easily

her heart is as soft as a peach

tender yet at the same time sturdy

it’s unfortunate that her delicate

skin is sensitive

she needs a caring hand to hold

her tears are just like the

juice that falls when she’s bitten into

strawberries

her face sparkled with delicate freckles like seeds on strawberries

the sun shines across her leafed irises and rosy curls only reflecting smiles into those passing by

her tartness only faded with time

leaving behind who she used to be

now we’re left with a beautiful honeyed smile in the middle of june as I take her hand within mine

“I love them, sweetie.”

“You haven’t read them all!”

I giggled, “I will though, and I’ll love each one. I don’t mean to put a wrench into your present, but I wrote you a ‘thank you’ poem.”

“Wait, you knew about this?

“Hoshi has loose lips.”

“He sinks ships, damn it.”

“But do you want to read it?”

“Oh shit yes, hand it over.”

each little piece that can be split is like giving your heart away

sharing too much can be taken advantage of

however, I applaud you for wearing your heart on your sleeve and handing out these whole tangerines to those in need of your own sweetness

you never lost your own self within those tangerines that grew in your hometown, which speaks volumes about who you are

your full cheeks lifted when you smile like a Jeju tangerine, bright and tangy

Cloudstreet Birthday Bash

As I take my first big steps into a new decade of fun and adventure, the love of my life surprised me with a special birthday bash at Cloudstreet, a newly crowned jewel in Asia’s Top 50 Restaurant.

With an urban edgy atmosphere complemented by modern art and a rocking music playlist, the restaurant and its staff creates a relaxing fine dining environment where conversations and laughter flow freely.

Without further ado, introducing my 7-course fiesta of flavors paired with drinks:

Grilled Oyster, Betel Leaf, Coconut, Finger Lime: Lovely start to the course which awakens the senses and puts a smile on my face.

2nd course of the day is the three musketeers of starters, continuing the assault on my palate.

Confit Potato, Smoked Herring, Egg Yolk: A dish that seems to have been conjured by Dexter in his laboratory, with an edible seashell that provides a much needed crisp to its tender fillings.

Pickled Mussel: The safe one in the middle of the trio with familiar flavors and texture that did not disappoint but did not excite too much as well.

Chicken Liver, Cranberry, Maple: The most polarizing item in the set where its a “hate it or love it” affair. To me, it works as it invites a dialogue, playing into its strengths of being edgy and controversial.

Madai, 20yr Old Mirin, Japanese Leeks, Chamomile Jelly: With a complicated preparation method involving premium sake and mirin, the bite is a little bit underwhelming because the taste buds are a bit overwhelmed by its crunchy flavorful base. However, it is still a wonderful dish though it might require a bit more refinement.

Grilled Jeju Island Abalone, “Majestic” Caviar: The first masterpiece of the night with an addictive caviar complemented by a silky broth and ever so tender abalone pieces.

Smoked Kingfish, Chayote, Clarified Watermelon, Horseradish: The second masterpiece of the night with an unlikely marriage of fruit with seafood, swimming in a sea of cool watermelon juice and topped with a horseradish sorbet.

Pork Jowl, Smoked Eel, Pickled Quail Egg, Corn: Coming off two masterpieces, this dish was comparatively safer but still ever so delicious featuring two of my most favorite meats.

Sri Lankan Curry of Western Australian Marron: The first matching table companion of the night as a beautiful seafood curry appears right in front of our eyes paired with a succulent crayfish. Every mouthful is filled with the delicious sounds of “ooo” and “ahhh”.

Sakura Ebi, Dhal, Aioli: A quick crunchy bite to rest your taste buds.

Roasted Monkfish, Kerala Style Ishtu, Bishop’s Nose, Smoked Chicken Fat: The third masterpiece of the night with an expertly prepared monkfish that resembles the best lobsters in the world, with a beautiful Bishop’s Nose that contrasts nicely with the flavors and texture of its companion.

Sri Lankan Stout and Liquorice Bread: This bread is the saltiest that I have ever tasted but strangely enough, I find myself slowly devouring it while using Jedi mind tricks to convince my stomach that there is still room for more dishes.

Presa Iberico Pork, Garlic Shoot Terrine, Kumquat: A single remark says it all: “I can’t believe that this is not steak”. It is simply that good as the flavor lock horns with your senses and takes it for a spin.

Comte, White Asparagus, Blackberry: Tart, savory, and sweet - just how I like my dessert to be - extraordinary and unique in its own way, paving the way for the rest to follow.

Cherry, Black Garlic, Malt Vinegar: It’s a dish that has you wondering if the chef has really taken it too far. However, your fears are assured with the first bite to a sublime and refined taste, showcasing the mastery of flavors by its creators.

Jerusalem Artichoke, Red Miso, Pedro Ximénez: By this time, my stomach was resisting more food but I just cannot stop singing the praises of this perfect balance of sweet, savory, and crunch in another culinary hit.

Before I shut down for the night, my birthday cake arrives with a figurine that perfectly captures my relaxed fun mood for the day.

Carrot Halwa: A little bit of a miss primarily due to its overly chewy texture that might not be the perfect solution to a tired mouth that has been chomping down delicious morsels of food all night long.

Tamarind & Pink Peppercorn and Vegemite On Toast: Tamarind & Pink Peppercorn is another “love it or hate it” situation while Vegemite On Toast should be the only way vegemite is served to me from this day forth.

Special mention to the talented sommelier for pairing our drinks for the night. He made the pairings fun and exciting, with liquid gold that elevates and transforms each dish in surprising ways. He also introduced one of my favorite red wines of the night: Bastardo Red. The red wine tastes like a white wine, with a refreshing light taste that only gets better with its food pairing.

And with that, it marks the end of my night celebrating 41 years on this blue planet with someone who allows me to be my authentic self 24/7.

Special thanks to my soulmate for organizing this unforgettable birthday bash at Cloudstreet, and to Chef Rishi and his crew for creating a dining experience that is truly worthy of being celebrated as one of the best in the world.

Test Drives: Pretty Vulgar Cool AF Lava Water Foundation

It’s been a while since I’ve done a Test Drives post so this is my first one of the month. If you guys have been following me on IG, you know that I’m part of Amazon’s Vine Influencer program. It’s an invite-only program where you’re given the option to try out newly listed, or not-yet-listed items from Amazon’s product offerings for free in exchange for an honest review. The items can literally be anything, but today I’m featuring a beauty product that I got through the program, Pretty Vulgar’s Cool AF Lava Water Foundation.

So this was a new to me brand and I was interested to check them out when I saw this product in my queue. After checking their website to make sure that the color being offered would be a match, I decided to give it a try. This foundation is billed as full coverage with a matte finish. It’s designed to hide imperfections while also adding a boost of hydration thanks to the Moringa butter that’s infused into it. The foundation also boasts nourishing lava water from Jeju Island (South Korea) that’s full of antioxidants and minerals.

What I like:

I’m not going to lie, I was a little nervous at first that this would look too red on me because I tested this color on the back of my hand before I started this makeup look and it looked a little reddish. But thankfully it didn’t appear red when I actually applied it to my face. Also, even though this is a full finish foundation, you can apply it sheer. I opted to apply with a damp blending sponge, and I also only applied about one full pump of product across my face. This foundation feels lightweight, and even with a full face, it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing foundation.

What could be better:

Honestly my only gripe about this product is the fact that it has an odd chemical smell. I thought that maybe it was because there might have been SPF in it, but that’s not the case. I checked the site to see if it was an SPF foundation, but it’s not. So, I have no idea why it has that weird smell. It’s not so strong that it’s offensive, it just makes you wonder what all is in there that’s creating that odor.

The Verdict:

Pretty Vulgar’s Cool AF Lava Water Foundation is a solid product that provides buildable coverage. I misspoke in my IGTV video because for some reason I thought that there was a larger shade range than there is. However, the fact that of the nine shades that are available, five of them are firmly for team brown and dark skin makes this a great option for darker skinned makeup lovers. While I’m not crazy about the chemical smell, the fact that it dissipates fairly quickly means that it’s not a dealbreaker. As usual, full makeup details are below.

Faint and growing fainter, the energetic strains of Fantastic Baby fade dimly from his alcohol-dulled senses, and as he clutches tightly at the warm hand in his own and stumbles over the sand, Yoongi finds that he doesn't much care. Under his bare feet the cold ground shifts and slides and, seven or so cans of beer into the night, he's not really sure if the fault lies with the earth, himself, or the lanky man dragging him enthusiastically along the shore. In a different circumstance he might have protested the fast pace, but the beer is sloshing through Yoongi's veins, blanketing all of his sharp impulses in a benign and comfortable hum. To their left, the constant wash of the ocean lapping at the sand is steadily consuming the noise of the party they're leaving behind, and blearily Yoongi thinks it's a good thing the moon is so bright tonight. Otherwise, he's almost positive Hoseok would have already managed to lead them straight into the water.

Unaware of – or at least, impervious to – his skeptical thoughts, Hobi hums an offkey rendition of the BigBang hit, tugging Yoongi along. Frankly, as he almost falls on his face for the umpteenth time, Yoongi can’t help but wonder how Hoseok managed to pry him from the comfy corner of the couch that he'd claimed as his own during the party. Content to watch everything going on from his isolated perch, he'd resisted all previous attempts by his friends to get him up. He vaguely recalls their conversation, the words that led to him unfolding reluctantly and following his friend outside, but somehow it doesn't seem like any of them should have been persuasive enough to get him moving. Except -

Except the night is warm, balmy, sighing softly with the lazy contentment of summer, and he finds that he doesn't miss the younger boys doing body shots off each other, or Namjoon and Jin singing karaoke completely out of tune. Not much anyways.

It's almost quiet now, as close to quiet as it ever gets with Hobi, and Yoongi takes the opportunity to complain, out of habit far more than conviction. "Yah, you said we were going for a short walk, not a hike to Jeju Island."

Completely unaffected, Hoseok slows his quick stride, glancing back and beaming at Yoongi in a way that makes the alcohol in his arteries fizz. "Jeju Island?" he asks playfully. "Did hyung want to go for a swim tonight?" He takes a few deliberate steps towards the water, and it actually takes Yoongi that long to realize what a horrible idea it is.

Hurriedly he digs in his heels, not really sure if his friend has drank enough to actually consider it. The alarm doesn't do anything to help him fight off the wide smile pulling up his lips, though. "Idiot," Yoongi laughs, and can't stop fondness from saturating his voice. "Maybe some other time."

"Mmkay," Hobi accedes easily, and they start walking again, leaving Yoongi's accusation unanswered. They're still holding hands but there's no one around – of course not, it's like one in the morning – and it's not really uncomfortable so he can't bring himself to protest. He kind of wants to ask what the hell they're doing, but it's also nice to just walk next to Hoseok, hands swinging loosely between each other, so he decides not to. Hobi's excited chatter washes over him in much the same way as the waves push against the sand, smoothing all the sharp edges, and he realizes faintly that he's still smiling. If anyone had asked, he'd blame it on the intoxication.

He'd have a totally straight face while he lied, too.

A steep dune rises hazily from the darkness, and the other male doesn't slow down as they reach it. "Almost there!" Hoseok declares, and now they have to break apart. Caught up in the rich thrum of energy he always feels when around his friend, Yoongi doesn't even think to question why they're climbing up the shifting tower of sand; he just follows the admittedly more agile male as they begin to straggle upwards, sometimes having to use their hands for balance.

At one point in time, after at least a minute or so of climbing, when he's almost lost track of Hoseok in his intense concentration, the treacherous footing proves too much and abruptly Yoongi finds himself floundering, flailing, sand trickling through his fingers as he scrabbles for a purchase that just won't come. There's a moment of horrible, breath tearing vertigo (possibly alcohol induced) during which he's absolutely certain he's about to teeter off the mound, but then Hoseok is there. His hands dart from above and to the side, one to grab at the collar of Yoongi's shirt, the other latching onto his wrist, and suddenly they're collapsing against each other, against the sand – but they're not falling. They're stable, with spinning heads set atop remarkably steady bodies. And Hobi is laughing, almost howling, barely able to get his words out. "Watch your step!"

And damned if Yoongi isn't laughing too, chuckling until he can't breathe – laughing, that is, until sand gets in his mouth and he has to stop or risk choking to death. Still grinning broadly at each other, giggling in snorting bursts, they haul each other up the rest of the way with only a modicum of struggling before collapsing in a heap at the top of the dune. Gulping in air, his sides aching, breathless more from amusement than from the climb, Yoongi lies flat on his back, staring up at a sky that's blanketed with stars almost outshone by the bright moon. Beside him Hoseok is giggling, also looking upwards, and it's a while before either of them can find their breath.

Pulling his phone out of his back pocket, Hobi momentarily winces as the brilliant light blinds both of them, leaving white-hot streaks of colour across their vision. After a moment of dramatic cringing, he peers at the screen again, lets out a relieved sigh. "Ah, we're just in time. I thought we might have to wait, or maybe that we'd miss it."

"'It'?" Yoongi echoes, his voice coming slow and dreamy. The alcohol is definitely starting to push him down the slope to drowsiness, or maybe this is just too strange of an experience to absorb, but when Hobi replies he feels no surprise, just a sudden flicker of interest.

"It, yeah, yeah. The fireworks!"

"Fireworks?" Another repetition, but this time the small man wriggles until he's on his side, facing Hoseok with a raised brow. "What fireworks?"

Eyes fixed upwards, unaware of the close observation he's suddenly under, Hobi nods energetically. "There's a monthly festival that happens at that closed off part of the beach – we saw it yesterday when we were touring around – and it has fireworks. I heard some people talking about it before. And I asked some of the locals and they said this was a good place to watch them and not a lot of people came because everyone's seen 'em all before, right? And Jin-hyung said you've never seen them before and -"

His words are obliterated by a sudden whistling shriek that blooms into a boom so deep it's more of a concussion that reverberates his bones than an actual noise, and beside him Hobi jerks in automatic fear. Above their heads a flower unfolds, or blossoms, or just whirls into being, a red and green flower so bright Yoongi finds himself once again struggling to breathe against the pressure on his chest. Hobi's right – he's never seen fireworks before. And suddenly, painfully, wonderfully, he knows exactly what he's been missing, and a world with fireworks is a world without room for his anxiety or skepticism. As another cannon-shot heralds the arrival of more fantastical colours, these in a sparkling, winding ribbon of blue and purple, Yoongi blindly reaches out, fingers fumbling along the warmth of Hobi's body until he finds the other's hand.

Hobi clings to him like he's an anchor and the fireworks are a black hole, threatening to pull them both in, and every time another boom echoes across the dusky sky Yoongi can feel a slight flinch wrack the other man's figure. Part of him wants to look over, to say something reassuring, but his eyes are fixed in unblinking amazement at the light show dancing over them, like their own personal parade, and he can't rip his gaze away. So Yoongi settles with giving Hobi's hand a gentle squeeze every time a new shower of sparks bleeds vivid colour into the night, and he shifts so that they're closer, sharing the warmth that the cold sand beneath them is trying to leech away, their thin clothes doing little to protect them.

He wishes – as fervently as he's wished for anything – that the fireworks will last forever, but like most of his wishes, that one lingers just long enough to leave the tart taste of hope in his mouth before it dies, trickling away on the tail end of the last of the fireworks. As the soft murmur of the ocean once again overtakes them, filling up the ringing silence left by the thunderous explosions, Yoongi stirs, letting out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding. He feels – abruptly, jarringly – sober, and when he turns to look at Hoseok, he sees a similar sobriety (but not solemnity) reflected in the other's long face.

"...Wow," Hobi eventually exhales with a grin, seemingly no worse for wear, and it occurs to Yoongi that he has seen fireworks before, in the broad stretch of lips, the flash of teeth, the delighted eyes that hold an energy at least equal to the lights that danced above their head only seconds ago.

"Wow," Yoongi agrees, but for once that's not enough, not nearly enough, and he crafts the words so quickly he might as well be rapping them. "Seriously. That was no joke. Ah, Hobi-ah, thank you. Thank you, that was one of the coolest things I've ever seen."

With a low chuckle Hoseok sits up, pulling Yoongi with him. "Just don't tell Jin-hyung that, okay? He might be jealous." Snickering, the wiry man makes to stand, but Yoongi stops him with something incredibly close to fireworks exploding in his chest.

As Hobi frowns curiously, Yoongi tilts his head in a brief, uncertain twitch, his lips pressed together. Voice rasping hesitantly from his throat, eventually he says, "...Let's just stay for a bit. I bet everyone at the party hasn't even missed us yet." And he means it, he does, especially the first part, because Yoongi has always been very aware of the special moments in his life, and he wants this one to draw out for as long as possible.

When his friend considers, shrugs and settles back onto the sand, Yoongi lets himself breathe a sigh of relief. He angles his head back to admire the sky, leaning lightly against Hobi's solid form, and he couldn't have said how long they stayed that way, trading words like useless currency and enjoying each other's presence as if they themselves were fireworks.

whether you are a new or old carat, i welcome you to this post! it’s essentially every fandom inside joke/meme that i could think of and boy are there A LOT. For every joke there is an explanation and then some links(: I know this is not all of them, so please reblog with the ones i’m forgetting and let me know if any of the links do no work. slip into the diamond life

A phrase used to indicate joining the fandom. seventeen released a song before they debuted called “shining diamond” in which “slip into the diamond life” is a recurring lyric. The fandom name is carats. Therefore, becoming a carat means slipping into the diamond life.

This birthed a spur of many many “slip into the diamond life” related memes.

hoshi’s many nicknames

(his real name is kwon soonyoung btw)

1.) “naega hosh”: Alright i’m p sure this one started way back when he was a trainee but it’s been his sort of “catch phrase” if you will. it means “i am hosh(i)” and you can watch a 10 minute compilation of him saying it (here). he has a hand motion to go with it and legit even put it in a song (jam jam) because he’s extra. 2.) “10:10″: soonyoung has branded himself 10:10 because the ends of his eyes are slanted upwards. If his face is a clock and the ends of his eyes are the hands, it looks like they are pointing to the time 10:10. (he even has a cute lil hand motion). he often shouts “what time is it now” at an audience and is a salty lil bitch when no one answers 10:10 or “ten hour ten minute” (watch here and here). also, here is soonyoung doing both the naega hosh and 10:10 hand motions. 3.) “kwon fire”: during seventeen’s reality show on one fine day (the first time), soonyoung came across his undiscovered talent for starting/keeping up fires. (watch here). he and the boys referred to him as kwon fire. 4.) “kwon spoiler”: excited lil bb sometimes has trouble keeping his mouth shut, that’s really all there is to this one. 5.) “kwon hamster/hamster hosh”: he looks like a hamster okay, even seventeen acknowledge this. look at his lil squishy cheeks omg i love him. 6.) BONUS: “my name is soonyoung, call me soon”. yes, these words came from his own lips in this 130709 broadcast

are you kimbap kidding ??

soonyoung and seungkwan used to have a broadcast show called “andromeda”. one time, junhui and joshua were guests in a game and competition to make kimbap, and apparently joshua done hecKED UP. (watch here).

seventeen’s “friend” john

this comes from an andromeda episode where seungkwan accidentally swore (the word sounds similar to “john”), and they all tried to play it off smoothly like the idiots they are. (watch here).

EGGU TART

When seventeen were in hong kong for mama, they got really hyped about eating egg tarts and mentioned it a few hundred times on their broadcast XD (watch here)

jihoon’s guitar rage

so one time when the boys were trainees, jihoon (woozi) chased mingyu with a guitar as a weapon. It became a thing. (see here and here)

yes of the yes

i really don’t know. it just became a thing. (watch here). seungkwan, dokyeom, and hoshi are known as the sunshine line, the gag trio, the mood makers, whatever you want to call it. they have branded themselves “booseoksoon”, a term derived from their real names; boo seungkwan, lee seokmin, and kwon soonyoung.

jun vs. logo

basically, whatever logo is overlayed on the video is always covering jun’s face and he k n o w s. (see here, here, and here).

YOOOO LADIESSS

on an episode of 17tv (when they were trainees), seungkwan tried to wake jihoon (woozi) up by playing the song “queen” by son dam bi (watch here). since then, they have reenacted it LOL (watch here).

mal (horse) dance

in korean, mal (말) means horse. dokyeom started a campaign where seventeen does a horse pose whenever “mal” is in lyrics. (watch here and here).

vernon bubble

vernon impersonating a bubble. it’s cute cause he gets shy shy shy about it. (see here and here).

michael chanson

dino’s real name is chan, and he worships michael jackson (examples here). since chan is a dancer, this is mainly regards to dancing and performing. there’s so many videos of him dancing michael jackson style, and one of his hobbies is dancing specifically girl group dances michael jackson style haha!

pin dropping joshua

basically, he pin drops all the time and seventeen are 100000% hype for it. (see here and here). fun fact: one time jeonghan tried it and failed.

pretty u first win

several members cried when seventeen got their first win, and understandably so. the feeling of your hard work being acknowledged in such a way is incredible, but i can only imagine how it must feel given that seventeen are so self producing. anyways, the members who cried the most are woozi (bb who wrote/composed the song), hoshi (bb who choreographed the performance), and seungkwan (bb who is soft okay). (watch here). now the reason why this is so great: every year, seventeen reenact the crying and it’s hilarious. (example here). fun fact: someone once gave hoshi a crying hoshi doll (x).

clumsy mingyu

he might be a tall mess, but at least he’s a cute tall mess.

boo seungkwan’s many nicknames

1.) “best quality boo”: just watch this video and know that seungkwan is the best quality. 2.) “boonon”: whenever seventeen does part switches, seungkwan and vernon always switch parts. the thing is, seungkwan is actually pretty good at rapping so now we are just waiting for boonon to make his debut. (watch a compilation here). 3.) “diva boo/booyonce”: he’s a sassy savage lil drama queen but in the best way okay hear me out. also one time he uttered the words “beyonce sunbaenim”. there’s way too many examples of diva boo, but see examples here and here. 4.) “boo from jeju”: seungkwan is from jeju-do island and mentions it whenever the opportunity strikes okay the hometown pride is REAL. (see examples here and here and there are so many more). one time he brought tangerines to give to fans and it was so cute, he became sad when he ran out. ALSO seventeen had a mini reality show type thing in jeju where seungkwan was their guide. (watch that here). 5.) “mc boo”: he’s just a variety king and great mc. that’s all there is to this one.

drink water not alcohol / you need jisoos

i’m not 100% sure this is the actual origin of the meme, but one time during trainee period some of the members were doing a vocal practice for pitbull’s “give me everything tonight”. samuel (a previous member) sung the line “i might drink a lil more than i should tonight” and at the time he was like 10 years old or something, so joshua awkwardly but cutely just went “drink water!....not alcohol!...” (watch here). conveniently, joshua’s korean name is jisoo, so “jisoos” (as in Jesus) became a thing. the meme only got better when joshua literally dressed up as a pastor one halloween (see here).

memesol

vernon’s korean name is hansol, and his entire existence is a meme. it started off with his *embarrassing* videos from when he was a child and there are many. the most famous reference is probably “kidney function is not a right, it’s a privilege” (see here). other than that, he just has priceless reactions to everything and basically all of his english lyrics in his raps have been made into memes.

thughao

the8′s real name is minghao and judging by his voice, face, and mannerisms you might think he is a cute lil button however you are w r o n g. there is a side to him we refer to as “thughao” because he can be savage AF (watch some compilations here and here). there was one particular famous instance (watch here) that even made a meme appearance at ISAC (see here) honestly i’m still laughing i love him so much. you may think this is just a reference to all the ways in which minghao has displayed savageness, but no, he was an actual child thug (see photos here). he was the leader of a swag bboy group (see his skillz here and in many current videos) also he is great at martial arts (watch this).

germgyu

mingyu has a sneezing problem. and a germ problem. just look at examples here, here, and here.

What's your skincare routine ma (morning or night... or both lol)

i have posted it a few times and the products have only slightly changed but my approach is still the same: no fragrance & researched ingredients if i can help it. My skin type is super dry and severely sensitive :-( i do this routine twice daily but i don't use all of this at once if that makes sense. i switch up depending on how my skin feels. if i haven't worn makeup or I'm feeling too dry ill skip cleanser at night and just rinse thoroughly with cold water. Also you don't have to buy Paula's Choice it's just what i use-Paula's choice recovery team cleanser / cosrx low pH morning cleanser (if im feeling congested and oily)-PC recovery calming toner-PC 2% BHA / 8% AHA gel (only when my skin has surface flakiness) -PC Retinol serum + PC Resist Moisture Renewal Oil/Benton Snail and Bee Venom Essence + the same oil. with either combo i mix the oil. sometimes ill mix the essence and serum as well-PC Recovery nighttime moisturizer + Mizon snail repair cream mixed (just when i feel like i want lighter moisture and brightening) -Tarte Vitamin C eye cream but ngl im just using this cause i have it..idk if it does Shit - PC Resist Moisture Renewal Oil patted overtop everything. Oil helps seal in moisture and it changed my life ngl. you can do it with any good oilmy fave masks are PC Skin Balancing clay mask, Cosrx Overnight Rice mask, Ciracle Jeju Volcanic clay mask, and Origins overnight moisturizing mask

Notes & Common Questions

1. Do you do this EVERY DAY?

In short, yes. While I used to just do a basic cleanse, tone, and moisturize, I have noticed a huge turnaround in the moisture and health of my skin since expanding the steps I take. If I am particularly lazy (which happens every once in a while) I will downgrade my evening steps to cleanse, tone, serum, and moisturizer but this only happens rarely. When I started expanding my steps, it was a chore but now it feels weird if I don’t do each step, and it’s as routine as brushing my teeth before bed. Let me put it this way, when I had invasive gallbladder surgery, I still forced myself out of bed to hobble over to my sink to do my skincare --- I’m a freak, I know.

2. I’M TOO POOR TO DO THIS. YOU MUST BE RICH?!

Haha...no -- not. at. all. if you are serious about upping your game there are plenty of drugstore priced brands you can choose from, and I typically get mine from Ebay, Amazon, or beauty subscription boxes that allow me to use higher end samples of great products. I certainly haven’t just gone out and bought 80 products at one time --- instead I focused on developing a regimen that I added to over the last year and a half. One product at a time until I found something that worked for me.

3. WHAT IS YOUR SKIN TYPE/AGE/CONCERNS??

I’m a 31 year old woman with combination skin (oilier t-zone and dryer perimeter) and am prone to redness, hyper pigmentation, uneven texture and the occasional breakout. If you have severely acne-prone skin, you really should consider seeing a dermatologist. I have no background in skincare so I am not at all qualified to recommend products for a chronic condition. I can only speak for my own skin condition.

4. WHY DO YOU DO SO MANY STEPS??

This is the Korean method, and there can be even more steps than the ones that I do. Since the goal is to maintain skin health, I feel it’s important to spend as much time on my skin as I do on applying my makeup. So if I don’t apply makeup, I don’t tend to do every step. Once you reach your mid-twenties you can start to notice considerable changes in the way your skin operates and what may have become acceptable before (cleansing and moisturizing) naturally would need more steps if your skin is aging. At 31, I am lucky to have very little permanent damage to my skin and almost no fine lines or wrinkles yet. The key for me is prevention -- I refuse to spend $300 on some wrinkle repair cream because I chose to ignore my skin until I turned 45.

Assalamualaikum Nyuhe,

Ingat nggak? empat atau lima tahun lalu, kita -bareng yantchan juga- ngasih surprise ulang tahun onni di Eiffel. Kita ketawa bareng liat onni kesulitan niup magic candle nya. Nyuhe lebih ketawa lagi, ngeliat aku panik, karena letupan itu lilin mau ngebakar mukena baruku waktu kita lagi ngumpet dibalik pintu, nungguin onni.

Siang tadi, aku -juga ira alien- datang ke rumah Nyuhe. Udah ada kue tart, udah beli magic candle. Tapi nggak sempat cekikikan liat onni kesusahan niup lilin. Aku -juga ira- datang buat acara yang lain. Yang kita -dan keluarga Nyuhe- nggak rencanakan bakal dibuat.

Tikar-tikar digelar, ibu-ibu perwiridan berdatangan, kita doa dan baca yasin bareng-bareng. Semua ngirimin doa terbaik buat Nyuhe. Empatpuluh hari ini Nyuhe nggak perlu susah payah menahan sakit lagi, karena sejatinya Nyuhe udah sembuh, udah tenang dalam rengkuhanNya, inshaa Allah.

Selesai acara kita mampirin Nyuhe ke ladang. Berdoa untuk nyuhe sama bapak. Gundukan tanah bernisan yang kami lihat sore itu harus buat kami legawa, kalau kami cuma bisa mengenang semua kenangan di kos sehati, di eiffel, di jeju, tanpa Nyuhe lagi.

Makasih banyak Nyuhe, untuk semua kenangan bahagia dan memorable selama di Eiffel, di Jeju juga. Makasi juga untuk suntikan semangat dan semua omelan-omelan buat iyat selama nyelesain skripsi.

Kita memang nggak bisa ngobrol lagi sama Nyuhe, tapi sewaktu-waktu kita bisa lihat Nyuhe melalui Umar. Nyuhe nggak perlu khawatir. Onni, Bibik, Umar, dan semua orang yang Nyuhe sayang bakal baik-baik aja. Inshaa Allah.

The Way We Enjoy Entertainment: Transmedia Storytelling

According to Korea Tourism Organization in 2016 there are 295.000 Indonesian tourist who went to Korea. This number is 50% higher than the year before. As cited from Visit Korea website for Indonesia, there are three reasons of this increasing (1) less MERS cases, (2) People tend to perceive that Asian country are much more saver due to the terrorism attack in Paris lately, and (3) is the influence from Hallyu wave that once again swept the world in 2016 by the huge success of Descendants of The Sun. Hallyu wave is proven effective as the strategy that lead to the increasing tourist coming to Korea. Korea’s Tourism campaign this year is Imagine Your Korea, Creative Korea whose ambassador is no other than Song Joong Ki (lead actor of Decendant of The Sun). Some of Korean famous tourism destination are Namsan Tower, Nami Island (the island where Winater Sonata drama taken place), Jeju Island, The Palace. This site is often found as shooting places for many dramas and movies. Beside places, Korea also sell their music tourism, where they have K-Pop Hollogram Concert, and many other things.

Hallyu Wave, has shown how people maximize their experience of consuming story from drama, film, or music by going to the places that pictured in there. This phenomenon of maximazing entertainment experience through various media including places is what Jenkins said as transmedia storytelling which he explained as “represents a process where integral elements of a fiction get dispersed systematically across multiple delivery channels for the purpose of creating a unified and coordinated entertainment experience.” Korea sure does using its entertainment industry to drive its tourism.

Korea Cultural Industry is not merely about music and drama which goal is to shift the trend from western and Japanese to the them. Instead Korea surely realize that music and drama have been universal language that is easily accepted and consumed. Through these understanding Korea put their cultural industry into their international politics strategy. When people may just think that Boyband and Girlband only dancing around the stage, they forget the fashion, new music genre, shooting sites that grown accordingly and the whole new world which set as a holistic story of how Korea is. In this part Korea succeed in familiarizing its name in the world.

Korea telling the stories of their people, and nations through the dance movement, through the drama series, and through the married of korean and western music. Drama has been a tool that being used not only to introduce Korean film industry but also its cultural richness. Korean cuisines for example always being a part that is shown in korean drama and movie. In result audience who watch it become more and more familiar with Kimchi, Korean Fried Chicken, Ramyoen, Toppoki and many more. This hallyu wave, resulted the growing number of Korean reastaurant in many countries.

Not only that these days, Korea is campaigning for Muslim Friendly Korea. As they realize the anthusiasm of Muslims to Korea. Here is one of the campaign video

Reijnders et al (2015) said that this phenomenon of people travelling places because of media that they consume; music, film, literature and more is called as Media Tourism. The study of media tourism is increased since the growing number of this kind tourism. The hallyu wave is one of the proof, and many others like New Zealand as the shooting place of The Lord of The Rings. Then, Hollywood as the movies industry center, or Disney World, or Potterland.This are all the tourism sites that grown from story that we watch, read or listen to. The result of this is that more people are willing to experience the media that they consume through various media channel. The story of Winter Sonata isn’t only enjoyed through its drama episodes, but dispersed into the placed of its scence taken which become tourism destination. Reijnders et al (2015) explain that people act this way because they have imagination and this imagination is used when they access others media, inclue places. This is exactly what Kore Tourism Organization said in their brand identity as captured in the screen shoot here :

This explain why a story could be extended into games, films, theme park even something that doesn’t related to the story anymore could still be another experience for us as consumer. For example as K-Pop Lovers a person might travel all the way to Korea, to visit Namsan Tower to experience the vibes of Korea. This Korea is something that they imagine and enjoy while consuming Korean Entertainment.

This entertainment is a form of transmedia that we as consumers access through various media, eventhough the content may not directly told through the media we access. I my self, experience it as I follow many accounts in social media about Korean Drama. I use soompi Forum for following the information about the Korean Actor I am interested in. I also read www.dramabeans.com for the recaps of the drama I’ve watched. This all is my way to extend and fullfill my imagination of the story that I enjoy. I also write this in full article here.

It was also the same like all the Harry Potter fans arround the world. They read the books, watch the movie, went to the Hogwarts Theme Park, but the wond and the cloth. Visit potterland webs, and even decorate their birthday or wedding that way. As we now see that we use various plarforms in order to satisfy our need of information and experience on certain things.
