Added to Jemma Simmons' bio:
On the other hand, she ABSOLUTELY will put the people she loves most (be default Fitz, Daisy, May and possibly Coulson) ABOVE the fate of the many/the world. She's loyal to SHIELD as in SHIELD's values when she joined, not as in 'following orders even when she disagrees and putting it before her family'. Is this an unhealthy attachment if you can kill/die for the people you love and let others take care of the 'sacrificing my loved ones for the world'? Possibly. I know people have issues with her putting Fitz before everything and I understand. My solution is to make her even more like that. It's extended to immediate family like Daisy, and she's against putting her job before everything.

Where is home? (my hands are covered in ashes)
Tumblr media
note: Hi! Surprise, I am not dead. Anyways I come to you with a story idea that I might never write but I think you might like. This is basically a word vomit so... don't expect a masterpiece! I kind of don't know what I am even writing at this point, it's difficult to put my thoughts in words. This is sort of a summary kind of... thing? This story was supposed to be more like a character study on Lyney but I have tried to change that here... kind of.
pairing: lyney x fem!reader (intended to be a platonic relationship but can be interpreted as romantic, whatever you like)
warnings: major character death, murder, mentions of blood, mentions of violence, angst, implied mental health struggles, themes of isolation and loneliness, mentions of manipulation and betrayal, no happy ending, also there are spoilers! ...tell me if I missed anything.
word count: 1.6k

When reader and the twins were pre-teens:
You are Cesar's little helper, often referred to as such or as 'Cesar's daughter'. Cesar took care of you and taught you everything he could. Your didn't remember who your real parents were; you were quite young when you were separated from them.
You enjoyed watching Cesar's performances. You had quite a sharp eye, noticing little details. So, he taught you the ropes around what is magic and what goes behind the scenes.
You met Lyney and Lynette on just another random day. The twins had approached Cesar for some help. You stuck around as you always did, following Cesar around like a little duckling, going wherever he went.
You were quite shy around new people and the same held true for the twins. Despite being in their presence a lot and Cesar's encouragement to interact with kids your age, you barely talked and mostly kept to yourself. Whenever Lyney did try to interact with you by asking little questions, you would give a short and polite reply. Lynette only offered you little smiles which did comfort you a little.
But within a span of few days, you formed a friendship with them. You found Lyney easy to talk to and Lynette's presence to be very comforting. Cesar was pleased with the outcome, happy that you had made some friends your age. You barely used to interact with anybody other than him; you even refused to spend much time with Jemma (Cesar's partner) or Lorenzo (Cesar's assistant), so he was genuinely glad that you had people other than him to talk to.
Maybe because you were highly empathetic or just used to hardships or just a child who didn't really understand much about the world but you weren't upset to find out that your friends were Fatui. You didn't care, you were just happy to have them.
By no means was Cesar an artist but when he drew a picture of you, Lyney and Lynette, you cherished the picture and kept it with you at all times. When the twins declined the invitation to tour Fontaine, the three of you had made a promise to meet again and tore your cherished drawing into two parts, you keeping the drawing of the twins and them yours.
Unbeknownst to you and Cesar, there was a ploy by Jemma and Lorenzo to kill you both. The main target was Cesar but the traitors believed that you would be a hassle to deal with and you were just smart enough to work out that they were the perpetrators so they decided that you had to go as well.
On the day Cesar died, your mind blanked out. He was framed as the Phantom Weasel and instead of staying in the scene, you fled, unknowingly escaping Jemma and Lorenzo's trap. You didn't know what to feel so you didn't. You spent the night alone in the streets, feeling numb and alone.
On return from their mission, Lyney was inconsolable when he learned what happened to Cesar and he whole heartedly believed you were gone too. He was enveloped in grief for the next few days that even Arlecchino got worried for his state.
Tumblr media
When reader and Lyney are teens:
An old lady finds you in a dark corner of a street, hidden away from view. She takes you in despite your weak protests, you were barely alive anyway so you did have to give in at the end.
With nowhere else to go after getting back on your two feet, you continue to stay with the grandma.
It doesn't take long for you and the grandma to get accustomed to each other's presence. You finally get a room of your own and you immediately framed and put up the half torn and a bit crumpled drawing of Lyney and Lynette.
Grandma (that's what you decided to call her) was a highly spirited and adventurous person that it started to rub off on you. Paired with your already itching desire to experience something new, to create good memories. So you spent a few years visiting Mondstadt and Liyue time to time, always accompanied by grandma.
Meeting Lyney again was a funny incident. You were out to buy some tea, since you ran out and Lyney was out for some tea because Lynette was sick. When he saw you, he completely disregarded you as a hallucination at first until you looked at him and your face lit up did he realise that it was you, in the flesh.
Falling back to the rhythm of your friendship was easy. Both of you were beyond happy to meet again. It didn't take long to catch up since you started to spend more and more time with him.
Lyney had changed, you had noticed and you didn't know if the change was for worse or for better. He seemed flashy, his magic seemed to have improved a lot, a worrywart when it came to his siblings and you and his demeanor was a lot more flirty than you have seen. In fact he would try all his pick up lines on you first, and without fail, you would scold him instead, reminding him that he shouldn't do too much or otherwise he would come off as a sleaze.
The twins meeting grandma went better than you had thought, although Lyney would disagree with you. He felt like he was getting interrogated as if he had committed a crime. Lynette had a far easier time earning grandma's trust but Lyney needed a few more minutes to win her good side.
The twins on the other hand described you meeting with their "father" as "good" while you would describe the meeting with Arlecchino to be one of the most nerve-wracking experiences. She was directly staring into your soul. You felt like she had her doubts but she reluctantly agreed you being around them.
The House of Hearth knew of you but that was all. The rest of the Fatui were not aware of your existence and you would rather have it that way. The Fatui wasn't exactly an organization one would like to be affiliated with, so you kept your distance as much as you could.
The days went by and so did the time for grandma, she wasn't feeling very well. You could sense that she was in her death bed but you didn't lament about it. You accepted it, as she had told you. People would come and go so it was better to learn to accept someone leaving rather than spending time wallowing about it. So when she passed away, you held no regrets of not getting to spending more time with her. You were simply glad you met her.
During this time, Lyney and Lynette helped uncover the truth behind the Phantom Weasel, clearing Cesar's name of any wrongdoing. It brought a sense of closure and justice.
Tumblr media
The current timeline, just before traveller comes to Fontaine:
The moment someone gets the taste of freedom, they would never turn back again. That's what you had told Lyney when you expressed your interest in visiting Inazuma. Travelling was a freeing experience for you, your desire to see the entirety of Teyvat was strong and going to Inazuma was one of the major steps to fulfill that wish. Inazuma had just opened it borders again and you wished to seize the opportunity to visit the nation while you could. It would also be your first time travelling alone as well, which was exciting.
Lyney on the other hand didn't seem to share your sentiment. He advised against it. He feared he would lose you, knowing how dangerous it was especially for a visionless person like you. He simply wished for your safety, a bit too much and you were having none of it.
You stood your ground. By no means were you an excellent fighter but you knew how to defend yourself good enough, you didn't need a vision. Besides, you were kind-of-sort-of knew the Fatui, which removed a major class of enemy group as a threat. You could handle others, as you have done so many times.
Lyney eventually came in terms with your wish. Despite his reluctance, he cannot keep you away from fulfilling your desires/dreams. So with a promise that you would write to him once you reached Inazuma, you bid adieu to them.
For the first seven days, Lyney patiently waited for your letter. Then it turned to ten days and he was starting to get antsy. Maybe it took longer to reach Inazuma than ten days, maybe you were tired and decided to take some rest in Liyue, you often said you missed Liyue's cuisine and scenery so you might have stayed there a bit. By the end of two weeks, he ran out of excuses and all he could conclude was that you didn't make it.
He barely held it together, troubled by your absence. More than the idea of death, the uncertainty of your fate haunted him. The silence was defeaning.
On the day one of his siblings from the Hearth returned with a solemn expression, they presented him with a handful of items recovered from the charred remains, explaining that they had stumbled upon them among ashes and recognized them as yours. In that moment, a heavy silence enveloped Lyney as the pieces of the puzzle fell into place.
The items that once was treasured as mementos of your adventures, now served as painful reminders of the cruel fate that had befallen you. His soul was crushed and Lynette hid behind the covers, hiding her tears.
Betrayed and defeated was what he felt when he knew you died at the hands of the Fatui, that too consumed by fire. The very Pyro ability that had once captivated you, that had drawn admiration and wonder from your eyes whenever he wielded it, now had robbed him of your presence. The same organization he worked for was the one that took you away.

BOO! Hahaha got youuu!! Anyway I'm here to request a fic of ler!furina and lee!lyney, I think she would 100% tickle the info out of him during the trial hehehe-
Ahhhhh! Whew, it's you... hehe, wow, I never tried this before... OK, I'll write one. Just need some time to study Furina's character. Hehe~ alright your heads up is enough...
Enjoy~
Oh, spoilers for Lyney's story quest and the archon quest
The law has no secrets
Tumblr media
Fontaine is all about laws where you break a rule you get judgement. This time for Lyney, the magician, things seemed too out of nature for Lady Furina to call out the Gards to restrain him from the prison cells.
He sighed, already assuring a worried Lynette and a shocked Freminet to eat dinner without him.
At least they had the decency to give him something to eat. Still, the exaggeration is when he was afterwards chained completely. With the manacles attached to his wrists, the line of metal was rooted from the ceiling to hold him up, but he was on his knees.
Is the trial room a cell? He must be either lucky or unlucky...?
Well, Lyney wouldn't say he's not anxious to the current setting, but he'd rather have talked things through since the disappearance case is solved by the traveller.
The echoing sound of the metal door squeaked open. Lyney looked up now, hearing the jangling of his own chains. They were Furina's light tapping footsteps. Next to her is Neuvillette.
Wait?! He's on this farce too??
"Lyney, I must apologise for this rough display, but... might I have a word with you?" Furina's dainty tone purred mischievously, making Lyney shudder as he tried to avoid sounding outrageous."Why, if you wanted to talk, we could've done that by settling an appointment? This is too hurtful"
Neuvillette sounded exhausted. "Lady Furina, this is the same question I was asking you, Mr. Lyney is not guilty..."
Furina folded her arms with a smile "Oh this has nothing to do with the disappearances case. This is regarding the trivial incident of the phantom weasel..."
Dear archons, he should've know -oh, wait, she is the archon.
Lyney noticed that even Neuvillette was seeing her ways of thinking for once. Unfortunately for Lyney, though, he did strike the nail.
"You make a point, Jemma's admittance to being the troublemaker is strange since it's relevant to Mr. Lyney's magic show... even the steambird couldn't get an interview out of him"
They eyed Lyney now, suspicious looming over his instantly, well he did try his best to hide it..."
"What are you hiding Lyney?" Furina teased now, as she has finally got a lead in something since the traveler's entrance "I know the case is solved but... we need to know your part in this play"
"I must concede I was responsible for her sudden confession, but..." he bit his lip, trying to sound convincing "The trick Ceaser tried must have opened her heart, so she must have...".
"We know all that... the question is..." she leaned forward, close to his face "Why use the particular trick Ceaser use on the lady? Your not the heartless type to use that trick on her to hurt her more... but you knew it would hurt her, cuz you knew she's the weasel!"
Neuvillette leaned on his hand as he pondered "It's almost strange how you were involved with Lorenzo, the gards told us your good deed"
"W-wait... I swear, it's all just coincidence... I made a mistake remember, I thought Lorenzo was the culprit-!"
Furina laughed now, interrupting him "Aha, so cute when your trying hard to defend when you have used up all your cards, Lyney,"
She pointed our "I know you have a close relationship with Ceaser... so what's your connection to it"
He could tell, but he didn't want to show most of his past to her if all people. The traveler is one thing but the chief of justice is present too.
"Lady Furina," he sighed, suddenly a reasonable part of him was seen "I understand your suspicions but the case is solved, thanks to Mr. Lyney"
He sighed in relief, but Furina hummed. "Is it? I was about to ask who th3 copycat was before..."
He widened his eyes. Right... the notes. He should've known those could be triggering most of suspicions.
"Wait, I'm not the copycat"
She suddenly glanced triumphantly. "I didn't say you were, dear Lyney, now I see a crack in those defences... hahaha better tell us why you'd help to solve a case of ten years ago"
Neuvillette pursed his lips "Lady Furina, could it also be you want revenge on Mr. Lyney?"
She swallowed, flustered "O-of course that's... um not m-my only reason"
Lyney implored, "I swear... It's all a big councidence" he didn't even want to think of her ulterior motives but his mind knew it before he ever did thar she was still vengeful of the traveler's incident when he saved Aether.
Neuvillette rubbed his temple in irritation. "Rememeber interrogation is not to be used as a frivolous method, I'd rather not see you hurt Mr Lyney for your frivolous actions."
"Why," she sounded confident as she slipped behind him. "I'm not here to use that torture method! Please, there are more ways that can break even the most strongest opponenets"
Before anyone could question her she grabbed his sides, startling him by the new sensation "Let the trial commence"
"AhaAHhA! Wait whahat?" He suddenly jolted at the electrifying touch, and even Furina giggled."Well, I guess my intuition is right as water, Mr. Lyney would enjoy this torture"
"Lady, that's the abuse of power" the chief of Justice pointed out sharply but he had no way of stopping her.
"Alright, let's hear it. How were you involved in the phantom weasels case?" Furina snickered as she got a good reaction from his ribs, making him pull at the chains that exposed him most terrifyingly.
"Whyhyhy? Whyhyhy thihihis Lahahady Fuhuhurina???"
"Why? Well because I don't want to hurt you and the other is... I wanna see a great magician such as yourself be a bit more vulnerable"
That's why??? He was torn with exasperation and concern if he was safe in Fontaine.
"This is for pulling that trick on me with the traveler" she teased by tickling his bare armpits. He lost it there and lowered his head with sudden cackles "HOHOLD OHOHON... IHIHI WAHAHAS TRYING TOHO PROHOTEHECT THE TRAHAVELER! HEHE'S UHUHUNAWARE OF OUR RUHUHULES!!
"Protect is a very strong word, Lyney" she smirked, stopping for a moment "ok new questions what's your relationship with the traveler?"
Not that question! He'd rather expose himself than answer thar!
His silence made her circle his sides teasingly, he giggles "Cuhut ihihit out hehe's ahaha nihihice guy!
"Nice guy?" She hummed, then making his squeal by grabbing his hips "Dare you lie to you archon! That's punishment for you!"
Neuvillette wondered if he should do something. Sure he would be lying if he'd say he didn't enjoy this side of Lyney and the mischief in Furina. This is not even work related so he'd rather leave them be.
"Nohohoho don't leheheheave meheheeee!"
"Ah, you're boring," she huffed now but then ignored him completely by trying to attack the new sensitive spot on his hips. "Lyney~... I got a lot of questions, so... try to answer at least one of them..." she continued."What's your relationship with the traveller? Then how did you know it was Jemma the real phantom weasel? Then why did you hide most of the details of the phantom weasels case...?"
Unanswerable! He can't tell any of that. No matter how bad of a pickle he's in.
"Man, your no fun..." she grabbed his thighs now making him gasp "hmmm~ what's that?"
He blushed with the sudden suffocation of holding his laughter but it left him when she knew his thighs are bad, "G-guh! Wait!".
"Jackpot... so tell me?"
"AHAHAHAHA WAHAHAHAIT IHIHIHIHI IHIHIHIHI" He gotta say one thing! He should! He can't expose the secrets of his family but rather...
"IHIHIHI LOHOVE AETHER! OHOHOK JUHUHUST STAHAHAHAP IHIHIT!"
She backed off, feeling more victorious to hear him defeated "Ah~ that's your secret? I thought it was something else but that's the truth I can tell... took you a lot of guts to say all that"
He blushed now, panting "Ahare wehe done?"
She grinned brightly and snapped her fingers "Yes!" The the chains dropped in him. He sighed, feeling tired for his own good. At least he can ge those before bedtime.
Of course the guards escorted him out and even Neuvillette apologised for the sudden trial run, he did show no offence to him. Knowing he's powerless over the archon but he did doubt if he's actually guilty.
"Lyney! Are you OK?" Aether's voice, he blinked when he noticed Freminet, Lynette and Paimon with him as well. He watched the concerned look on those lovely golden eyes, he looked away with a blush "Y-yeah, I was just under suspicion"
"Did they do anything to you?" He grabbed his face now trying to scrutinze any injuries, he blushed heavily "I-I am fine... p-please let's have some tea together"
"You're blushing? Are you sick?"
Lynettw sighed. "Brother, you can't fool me, so what did they do?"
He pleaded now forcing himself into the house as they followed "Please don't make me talk about it... its embarrassing"
"For some reason, Paimon wants to know," she chuckled, and even Aether gave a smile. Sure, he did tell he was tickled at trial but editted end where he admitted his feelings. Instead, he said she got bored and left.
Nobody knew that except Lynette who knew he must've told the relationship of him and Aether...
Tumblr media
Hope this is alright... and not too long ...I'm really sluggish today but I had the perfect idea to write and I remembered your idea beign trial so I kinda mixed things... hopes it ok

Sophie has the need to be helpful to others, which can be troublesome to her by turning into a situation where she takes on tasks she might not be able to do.
She has a determined spirit even if she screws up, she just tells herself to take note of the mistake and try again no matter how embarrassed she may be. A hard worker who has the drive to succeed.
When she doesn’t know what the topic others are talking about, she just stuffs some food in her face or tries not to be noticed so it prevents people from including her until they talk about a topic she is familiar with.
She doesn’t want to say she doesn’t know. She has to cling to her pride as a royal even for a bit. It’s a struggle of not wanting to look stupid yet she doesn’t know what else to do at this point.
There are times when she mumbles and ends up walking while doing so. Oftentimes she ends up somewhere else and she’ll only realize it when she’s finished mumbling her thoughts.
Has the tendency to fumble around with her amulet when she’s nervous or deep in thought.
Whenever she’s too busy to eat she will always go have some snacks while she’s doing her task. Doesn’t matter where or what, she has a form of snack to munch on, be it candy or a small packet of nuts.
Tumblr media
Hometown: Kingdom of Enchantis
Family History
Sophie is the daughter of the Queen Meredith. The sole ruler of her home kingdom, Enchantis, and she is next in line for the throne. Though her future is set in stone, her mother always made time for her and was very involved in her royal education.
Her kingdom is called, Enchantis, a castle built on a large island surrounded by other large islands where villages and towns are built. She has step siblings who are twins. She was very welcoming to her new family members though she has to constantly remind her step-brother that being royalty comes with responsibility.
Her kingdom houses plenty of artifacts that are very old, one of them was a magical amulet that could grant powers to anyone who wears it. The amulet is now in Sophie’s possession and she promises her mother that she will guard it responsibly.
Sophie didn’t expect her mother to remarry, and to a commoner of all people. She was surprised when her mother told her about marrying the man named, Ryland. Sophie supported her mother’s new love while the council voiced their objection.
Despite the council’s arguments, Meredith and Ryland got married and he becomes the new king. Though the newlyweds decided to let Meredith rule as she always did while Ryland takes care of the smaller tasks like hosting events and charities.
As for Ryland’s children, Jemma and Amir, they were announced as the new prince and princess alongside their father. Amir was ecstatic in his new life as he always dreamed what it would be like to live in the palace. While Jemma was a bit hesitant and anxious since she might be forced to behave a certain way and thinks that the nobles would look down on them.
Sophie, being the helpful girl, assisted in her new siblings’ adjustment to the palace. Constantly reminding Amir that though it is luxurious it comes with a responsibility and would always remind him to not let the wealth and power shape his identity.
As for Jemma, Sophie would cover for her when she slips up during fancy parties. Though Sophie doesn’t know what life is like as a commoner, she can understand the feeling of not wanting to leave the life you’re familiar with.
As for Ryland, he was just as nervous as Sophie was in terms of trying to get along. They overthink about what to say or how to behave around the other. By the time they both realized they were fretting over nothing they had a good laugh. The step father was actually a nice guy who shares the open-mindedness like her mother.
Though when her father needs help organizing events, Sophie is there to provide her opinion on what the latest trends are. Ryland is thankful for her help.
Overall, the new family members are slowly adjusting to the new life as royals and Sophie finally has more company when her mother was too busy.
Childhood Memories
Sophie remembers her mother would show her old journals of an ex-royal who left the kingdom to discover the outside world. It was forbidden by the council to possess any outside knowledge, but Sophie’s mother thought it was harmless. So, the queen lets Sophie read the journal in secret.
This gave Sophie this wonder of what the world would be like if she were to leave the kingdom one day. A part of her is hesitant to speak up about her want to see what’s beyond the kingdom. due to the council’s insistence.
And when her step family moved in, she had quite the shock at trying to handle two twins who are such polar opposites. There may be some disagreements, but they are close as family could be.
Tumblr media
She is diligent and hopeful, never gives up on a task until it is done. Though she needs to learn how to lean onto others for support when she needs it. During the first few weeks of the school, Filly and the other animals were the only ones she’d talk to. Hopefully she’d talk and make friends with the other students.
The first few months have had her frozen in shock. Like the floating teapots that were rioting at the time. The explosion of glitter from one of Ella’s creative process. The monkeys who nearly stole her necklace when she went to Magiaoasis and even the brawl between teachers and the students secretly betting on said teachers.
Her face was just frozen into perpetual terror at the sight.
She currently has a hard time trying to adjust to a lot of culture shock. It may be hard, but she’s trying at least…
Tumblr media
Filly
She is a cocker spaniel with pink ears and tail, with pinkish white fur. She was given to Sophie as a childhood present and they’ve been inseparable ever since.
Filly often helps Sophie out whenever she feels troubled. If Sophie isn’t able to say what she needs to then Filly does it for her with a loud bark.
Filly has a love for ribbons because Sophie would always have a box of ribbons ready for her. The dog is quite touchy about anyone trying to touch her precious ribbons.
Zenius
He is a Pegasus in Enchantis who was given to Sophie in her 12th birthday and she raised him as her flying companion for the kingdom’s derby racing.
Zenius is eager to race to the skies but he tends to be quite bashful towards onlookers which sometimes cuts his focus. Which often led him to falling from of the sky mid-flight.
Despite his bumbling mistakes, Sophie still cherishes him as her friend and racing horse. He wasn’t brought to DCA until a few months into the semester because he was getting anxious.
Tumblr media
Sophie has no unique magic yet.
As for magical skills, she has a decent amount of magic meant for daily life such as levitation spells and repair spells.
The spell Sophie likes to use the most are spells that soothe her nerves. They come out as little lilac flowers that float around her head and dissolve. Its what helps her step-siblings calm down or when she’s having trouble thinking straight due to the stress.
As for combat, she only knows defensive spells as well as average dispelling for curses. Anything that involves direct combat is beyond her capabilities.
She has a telepathic connection to her amulet called, Avaloria.
Tumblr media
Meredith Fascinare
The queen and mother of Sophie, she is a benevolent ruler who is more open-minded than the council, she always jokes with Sophie that she thinks they’re always so grumpy they might end up looking like trolls. She is calm and patient with others and would always hear out both sides before speaking her opinion.
Ryland Fascinare
The step-father of Sophie who used to work as a jeweler in a small village. It wasn’t until he was asked to present a gift for the queen along with the other citizens that he fell for the queen at first sight. He is a jolly man who always finds amusement in everything, he is a bit shy with having to be taught the etiquette by Sophie and the queen, but he tries his best to adjust.
Jemma Fascinare (12)
The younger twin who likes to run around and play knight with the other boys back at the village. She finds being royalty a bit difficult but she tries her best when she sees Sophie trying hard too. She dreams of becoming a knight one day.
Amir Fascinare (12)
The older twin easily adjusted to the palace life. He tries to follow Sophie’s lead though he fumbles a lot due to being unfamiliar with the etiquette. But Sophie is always there to make sure he gets it right and guides him along the way.
Tumblr media
The character’s name, “Sophie” is a variation of the name she was twisted from which is Sofia from Sofia the first. Her last name, “Fascinare”, is from the word fascinating. There is no other reason the artist used this name other than to make it sound fancy enough for royalty.
Sophie was going to have several abilities after every overblot was resolved much like how Sofia gains more abilities in her amulet like being able to shrink or turn into any animal she sees. But the artist is still brainstorming this idea.
The artist also wanted to make Sophie’s story in the future be a variation of Overblot since they want to make an antagonist that will be her adversary. (this part is still being brainstormed)

1891 – On this date the British singer, screenwriter, composer, actor and director Edmund Goulding was born (d.1959). Goulding is best remembered for directing cultured dramas and such as Grand Hotel (1932) with Greta Garbo and Joan Crawford, Dark Victory (1939) with Bette Davis, and The Razor's Edge (1946) with Gene Tierney and Tyrone Power. He also directed the classic film noir Nightmare Alley (1947) with Tyrone Power and Joan Blondell, and the action drama The Dawn Patrol. He was also a successful songwriter, composer, and producer.
There is a paradox to Goulding. His sensitivity to women's emotions brought him enduring success, as witnessed by his swooning melodramas, but his private life reflects a lack of sensitivity. Goulding was bisexual, with a decided taste for promiscuity and voyeurism. His sex parties and casting couch were notorious.
A 2004 biography of Goulding, Edmund Goulding's Dark Victory by Matthew Kennedy says that it was widely known in Hollywood that Goulding was bisexual, and hosted wild parties for all persuasions.
But he cannot be dismissed simply as a sex addict or sexual exploiter. For every excoriation of his morals, there are accounts of his loyalty to friends, generosity to family, gentlemanly manner on the set, and preternatural ability to bring out the best in his actors.

1908 – Sir Michael Redgrave, English actor and director (d.1985). Father to the Redgrave acting dynasty, Redgrave was married to the actress Rachel Kempson for 50 years from 1935 until his death. Their children Vanessa (b. 1937), Corin (1939-2010) and Lynn Redgrave (1943-2010) and their grandchildren - Natasha (1963-2009), Joely Richardson (b. 1965) and Jemma are also involved in theatre or film as actors. His grandson Carlo Gabriel Nero is a screenwriter and film director
During the filming of Fritz Lang's Secret Beyond the Door... (1948), Redgrave met Bob Michell and they became lovers, Michell set up house close to the Redgraves, and he became a surrogate "uncle" to Redgrave's children (then aged 11, 9 and 5), who adored him. Michell later had children of his own, including a son he named Michael.
The 1996 BBC documentary film Michael Redgrave: My Father, narrated by his son Corin Redgrave, and based on his book of the same name, discusses Michael's bisexuality in some depth. Rachel Kempson recounts that, when she proposed to him, Redgrave said that there were "difficulties to do with his nature, and that he felt he ought not to marry". She said that she understood, it didn't matter and that she loved him. To this, Redgrave replied "Very well. If you're sure, we will".
During one of Corin's visits to Michael, the latter said "There is something I ought to tell you". Then, after a very long pause, "I am, to say the least of it, bisexual".
Corin helped his father in the writing of his last autobiography, and encouraged him to acknowledge his bisexuality in the book. Michael agreed to do so, but in the end he chose to remain silent about it.
A card was found among Redgrave's effects after his death. The card was signed "Tommy, Liverpool, January 1940", and on it were the words (quoted from W.H. Auden): "The world is love. Surely one fearless kiss would cure the million fevers".

1947 – John Boswell, American historian (d.1994); A prominent historian and professor at Yale University, many of Boswell's studies focused on the issue of homosexuality and religion, specifically homosexuality and Christianity. Boswell was the author of the ground-breaking and controversial book Christianity, Social Tolerance and Homosexuality (1980), which, according to Chauncey et al (1989),
"offered a revolutionary interpretation of the Western tradition, arguing that the Roman Catholic Church had not condemned gay people throughout its history, but rather, at least until the twelfth century, had alternately evinced no special concern about homosexuality or actually celebrated love between men."
He is known primarily, however, as author of The Marriage of Likeness: Same- Sex Unions in Pre-Modern Europe (New York: Villard, 1994), in which he argues that the adelphopoiia liturgy was evidence that attitude of the Christian church towards homosexuality has actually changed over time, and that early Christians did on occasion accept same-sex relationships.
Rites of so-called "same-sex union" (Boswell's proposed translation) occur in ancient prayer-books of both the western and eastern churches. The rites of adelphopoiesis is Greek for "the making of brothers." Boswell, despite the fact that the rites explicitly state that the union involved in adelphopoiesis is a "spiritual" and not a "carnal" one, argued that these should be regarded as sexual unions similar to marriage.
This is a highly controversial point of Boswell's text, as other scholars have dissenting views of this interpretation, and believe that they were instead rites of becoming adopted brothers, or "blood brothers".
Boswell pointed out such evidence as an icon of two saints, Saints Sergius and Bacchus (at St. Catherine's on Mount Sinai), and drawings, such as one he interprets as depicting the wedding feast of Emperor Basil to his "partner", John. Boswell sees Jesus as fulfilling the role of the "pronubus" or in modern parallel, best man. Boswell made many detailed translations of these rites in Same-Sex Unions, and claimed that one mass same-sex wedding occurred only a couple of centuries ago in the Basilica of St. John Lateran, the cathedral seat of the Pope as Bishop of Rome.
Boswell died of complications from HIV-AIDS on December 24, 1994, at age 47.

1989 – Xavier Dolan, born in Montreal, Quebec, sometimes credited as Xavier Dolan-Tadros, is a Québécois actor and filmmaker, the son of a teacher, Geneviève Dolan, and Quebec actor Manuel Tadros. Formerly a child actor in films such as J'en suis!, Le Marchand de sable and La Forteresse suspendue and television series such as Omertà, la loi du silence, Dolan attracted international attention when his first film as a director and screenwriter, J'ai tué ma mère (I Killed My Mother), won three awards from the Director's Fortnight program at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.
J'ai tué ma mère has been sold to more than 20 countries.
After J'ai tué ma mère he directed his second feature film Les Amours Imaginaires (Heartbeats), which was financed privately. It follows the infatuation of two friends with the same mysterious young man. Inevitably, their friendship suffers. It premiered in the Un Certain Regard category at the 63e Festival de Cannes in May 2010, to a standing ovation, and won the top prize of the Official Competition at the Sydney Film Festival in June.
His third film, Laurence Anyways, about a transsexual, was selected to compete in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. Suzanne Clément's performance in the film won the section's award for Best Actress. The film received praise from critics but once again failed to find an audience.
His fourth film is an adaption of Michel Marc Bouchard's play Tom at the Farm (Tom à la ferme). It received its world premiere in the main competition section at the 70th Venice International Film Festival on 2 September 2013 and won the FIPRESCI award. Hello, Kaitlynn. I have a Skye/Daisy X reader request.
Reader is a lot like May and has taken a liking to Skye, Reader overhears the team talking about Skye (after she gets her powers) and she defends Skye. (Skye being there to hear what she says.)

Glass shatters over Skye and (Y/n)’s heads.
(Y/n) grabs her girlfriend’s hand, pulling her along.
Skye’s hands tremble, and (Y/n) leads her down one of the staircases into a dungeon like Ward’s.
(Y/n) sits Skye down on one of the beds.
“Honey, you can do this,” (Y/n) brushes a tear from Skye’s cheek as the room continues to shake. “We can do this. I believe in you.”
“I can’t,” Skye whispers. “I can’t ma-ake it stop,” Skye’s voice breaks, more tears running down her face. “Everyone is at risk.
“Honey, look at me,” (Y/n) says, moving to sit on the bed beside her lover. “Focus,” she takes Skye’s hands, brushing the tops gently with her thumbs.
“Yes, you can,” (Y/n) turns her back on her girlfriend for a moment as a sword is stabbed through the barrier (Y/n) had just put up.
“Agent Barton,” Sif yells through the barrier. “Release the girl.”
“Like hell,” (Y/n) replies.
“(Y/n), she’ll get through!” Skye says, meeting her lover’s eyes with wide eyes.
“Ignore it,” (Y/n) tells Skye, though her voice was gentle. “Remember, focus.”
The barrier breaks, and Sif steps through.
In a quick motion, Skye leans forward, grabbing (Y/n)’s ICER from her belt, shooting herself in the chest.
The quaking stops and (Y/n) tears her gaze away from Sif.
Forgetting the Asguardian, (Y/n) lunges at the bed, tapping Skye’s cheeks with a hand.
“Skye!” (Y/n) leans over her lover’s body, pulling Skye’s head into her lap. Tears fall down onto Skye’s cheeks as (Y/n) runs her fingers through Skye’s hair.
“She harmed herself,” Sif says, but (Y/n) doesn’t respond, too focused on Skye.
Coulson and May charge down the stairs.
“Even though she knew it meant giving up her freedom,” Coulson says, stepping up to Sif.
“All to save the rest of you,” Sif finishes, her gaze falling back on (Y/n) and Skye.
“Don’t you see? She wants to get better,” Coulson tells Sif.
May walks over to the bed, resting a comforting hand on (Y/n)’s shoulder.
“If you take Skye away from the people she loves,” Coulson goes on, “she’ll only get worse.”
. . .
(Y/n) is walking from Skye’s hospital bed to their shared room when she hears voices.
The remainder of the SHIELD team is cleaning up the glass while Coulson and May take Vin-Tak and Lady Sift to a place where Lady Sif can summon the Bifrost.
"Jemma . . ." Fitz begins. "Um . . . I know you feel that I could have been, uh . . . a bit more forthright -" Fitz pauses.
Jemma chuckles sarcastically, "Forthright. Fitz, as understatements go I think that qualifies as an instant classic. You lied to me."
"Okay, so now we're even," Fitz replies, putting his hands on his hips. "Could you blame me, the way you were going on about Raina, that she's a-a-a plague to be eradicated?" Fitz questions. "I -"
"Skye is my friend. She’s different," Simmons retorts.
"Oh, yeah. Like I was your friend, and then I changed?" Fitz asks. "How did you handle that?"
By this point, the two had caught the attention of Mack, Bobbi, and Hunter, and (Y/n)’s eyes had glued themselves to the scene in front of her.
"Uh, t-the point is, secrets don't help any of us," Mack says. "Y/n) and Skye should have come clean," he says.
"What, and risk being locked up like animals?" Fitz asks. "Studied? Or who knows what else? No, I wouldn't let either of them."
"Oh, you wouldn't let them," Jemma asks.
"We could have handled them," Mack says. "In a way that would have kept everyone safe."
"It wasn't fair to us, Fitz," Bobbi says softly. "We had a right to know."
"A right to know," Fitz echoes. "What - is that the same way that Sif and the Kree had a right to know?"
"I think this situation's a little bit different, mate," Hunter responds.
"No, you would have done to them exactly what Sif and the Kree wanted to," Fitz argues.
"You don't know that," Simmons says.
"Yes, I do know that!" Fitz yells. "They would - You would - You'd 'handle them'! Mack just said it! Like, uh - Skye is something to be locked away in a cage somewhere. We should be protecting her."
"No, Fitz," Mack interrupts. "We're the ones that need protection from her." Then Mack goes silent, looking over Simmons's shoulder to meet (Y/n)’s eyes.
“You do understand that she shot herself to protect us?” (Y/n)’s voice was deathly quiet, though there was no doubt that the others could hear her.
“It was only an ICER.” Simmons replies and (Y/n) lets out a laugh, and the other’s wince at the slight hysteria in the sound.
“What if Skye hadn’t known it was an ICER?” (Y/n) says, her words taking on a harsh tone. “What if it had been an actual gun? She shot herself in the -” (Y/n)’s words break as she sucks in a breath of air. “She shot herself in the heart. If that had been a real gun, she would’ve -” her voice breaks again.
Mack, Bobbi, and Hunter’s gazes fall on something behind (Y/n), and the higher level agent turns, meeting her girlfriend’s watery gaze.
Skye looks so hurt, so betrayed that (Y/n) almost doesn’t follow. Then (Y/n) metaphorically kicks herself, knowing that her lover wasn’t mad at her.

Sorry, I'm just thinking about how Agents of SHIELD set up the themes within their characters and gave them such rich characterization (even if they never had enough time to show us the long conversations and therapy sessions). Like overall, you just KNOW who that character is.
And the finale stayed true to that. And in a sense gave those core struggles some closure.
Coulson is an agent of mystery, and yet a seemingly average guy. He never was able to have a normal life, but he was given a family, particularly a daughter and a wife (Daisy and May). The show started with #CoulsonLives and, he died peacefully with the woman he loved. Only his memories and legacy still lives on in the form of an LMD. In a sense, he is both dead and alive.
With May you have a woman who wanted nothing more than to be a mother, but who was living in the guilt of having harmed a child on a mission. Here is a traumatized agent, who only comes out of inactive duty to help Coulson. To protect him. But she becomes a mother to Daisy, and later Robin and Flint. She takes care of the whole team. And when her duty is done, she can rest again. This time, content and absolved. Not hiding, but truly retired from active duty because she completed her mission.
With Daisy you have Belonging & Becoming. She never had a family. She didn't know her self-identity. She believed she was a weapon and a curse, but people showed her that they cared for her. The team became her family. She found a family, and she knew who she was even without them... so that in the end she was able to go off and start a new family as children must do.
Then there's Jemma, a sweet and brilliant and curious young mind turned toward helping others and trying to study them. Jemma always had problems processing and expressing her emotions which resulted in repression, internalized responsibility (which turns to guilt), compartmentalization, hyper-vigilance, and over-rationalization of everything. She went through so many traumas and had to learn how to not only have courage and be resilient but how to have compassion, how to let herself be vulnerable, how to let go of guilt, how to be open. In the last season she starts losing her memories, but they come flooding back to the surface along with all those emotions--love and pain and motherhood and family and all her grief and joy is no longer repressed.
And here with Fitz... his story deals primarily with his identity as a genius boy, but it becomes a story about free will and choosing goodness and not letting yourself be programmed by the mistakes you make or the people who hurt you... and in the end he doesn't find his peace and self-worth in being a heroic agent, but in being a loving husband and father. His story is about self-image and forgiveness and staying kind. And he becomes the kind of father Alya deserves. A father who stays, a husband who lives, a man who has made himself a sacrifice so many times at last gets a reward.
You have Mack, the gentle giant, the team mechanic, who is really a simple guy. He starts off hating violence, but he also realizes he has to fight sometimes, in order to protect people. Losing his daughter when he was younger made him a more cautious individual. Finally he used his grief and his own faith in God to bring Hope to others. He became a leader in his own right, learning not to be paralyzed by indecision or fear.
And Elena, she never slowed down or looked back or questioned herself because she couldn't let herself. But she always ended up back where she started, getting nowhere. She learned she needs to wait for others, take time for herself to be still, and think through her actions. She almost lost her faith because she was running from God and her inner self, but in the end, she slowed down, remembered the beautiful power of grace, and started truly running the race.

'Love, like family, is a notion Daisy has a strange relationship with. She used to think it was a lie, that a romantic, unconditional kind of love was an urban myth, or something invented by Hallmark to sell cards. They studied love poems in English class in high school and she thought that’s all love was; an interesting idea, a concept that sounded nice in fiction. Akin to mermaids.'

"In the deepest depths of outer space, there is no turn of the season. The stars are the same, no matter what month is showing on an arbitrary human calendar. Time, as Jemma knows all too well, is relative."
It’s a whole new life. Fitz and Jemma learn how to live it, one season at a time. Set after the show’s final scene.

Daisy’s still looking at him, her gaze burning into him like a brand. “Deke, that’s…”
He can’t let her finish, because he knows if she asks him to, he’ll stay. He’ll find a way to stay. He can’t be the cause of her pain. “And honestly…” He scoffs, trying to clear the wetness from his eyes, the shaking of his voice. He wants this; he’ll swear up and down he does. “I’m kind of a rock god here, anyway.”

Author: EstellaB (@ravenpuffheadcanons)
Relationships: Leo Fitz & Jemma Simmons, Leo Fitz/Jemma Simmons, Jemma Simmons & Daisy Johnson, Jemma Simmons & Anne Weaver, Leo Fitz & Holden Radcliffe
Summary: Miss Simmons, aged 22, wants what any sensible young lady wants: a laboratory where she can study the stages of decay, a subscription to a circulating academic library, and for her parents to stop making difficulties about that misunderstanding with the livers. When her father announces that he’s moving the family far away from their home in Cambridge, she fears that her already slim chances of contributing to scientific progress will vanish forever. Perhaps, however, the cosmos has something rather different in mind.

Wayward Devotion part fifteen: realize
Pairing: Ikaris x Reader
Summary: interrogations are hard, okay? You really can’t fuck with the Hilbert space, but we do get some flashbacks. The timeline is complicated so buckle up as you read through. Also we end on a little bummer, sorry folks.
Words: 2001
-
“Where do you wanna start?” Bucky is the first to break the silence, looking to you.
You shrug, “fuck if I know,” you’re blunt with it.
How do you start an interrogation that involves years of deception and kidnapping? You really didn’t know.
“I can try and explain,” Fitz offers, fidgeting with his hands in front of him nervously, “last year we had to save the world.”
“We’ve done that a few times too,” Sam responds curtly, crossing his arms, “cut to the chase.”
“In order for us to do that,” Fitz continues, “we needed to travel through time.”
“Again,” Bruce points out, “that’s nothing new for us.”
You shudder at the mere mention of time travel, prompting Ikaris to place a hand on your shoulder. Instinctively you lean into him, and give him a small smile.
“What does it have to do with me?” You speak up.
“We figured out how to travel through our timeline,” Fitz starts again, “just not others.”
“Interdimensional time travel,” You say and Fitzsimmons nods.
“Explain the connection,” Ikaris cuts to the chase next to you.
“Y/N,” Fitz looks directly at you now, “you were our first mission as a SHIELD team. Do you remember what happened after we found you?”
-
“I worked in a lab,” you furrow your eyebrows, trying to recall specifics, “I can’t remember the name of it though.”
“Well no worries,” the girl in front of you with a lab coat says smoothly as she points to various instruments, “we’ll be able to test what you know and don’t.”
You nod along, looking at a specific bench with lots of blueprints, noticing an equation scribbled out on a sheet of paper. You pick it up, reading over the multiple lines of arithmetic, grabbing a pen on instinct and scribbling on the sheet.
“Hey hey no no no,” The man next to her grabs the paper from your hand, “that is not for your eyes! I doubt you even know what the equation is fo-” he trails off though as he looks at your marks, eyes wide.
You shrug, “simple fix.”
He shakes his head, bewildered, “no, not a simple fix.”
He shakes the paper in front of the girls face, “Jemma look, she fixed it!” He turns to you, “I’ve been working on this since I was 13.”
“And you were doing it wrong,” you deadpan before walking over to the microscope and taking a look.
You don’t notice the two sharing a look at your discovery, baffled that you were even able to comprehend his writing.
“So you know how to study quantum physics, and nothing else?”
You shrug, “science comes naturally to me.”
“I think we could use you on our team,” the agent you spoke to earlier is at the door, clearly the leader.
“I think I want to figure out who I am,” you scoff, “and who you guys are.”
“I’m Phil Coulson,” he sticks his hand out, “an agent of a secret government organization. I run a small group of agents that travel around the world answering calls that local law enforcement can’t deal with.”
“So what am I? Your first case?” You tilt your head at him, “do you recruit everyone or am I special?”
“So far we’re two for two,” the guy mumbles, but Jemma elbows him in the side.
-
“The spectral theorem was off,” You recall, “fucking with the Hilbert space.”
“Can’t fuck with the Hilbert space,” Bucky says, thoroughly sarcastic.
“You solved the most complex equation I have ever laid my eyes on in thirty seconds,” Fitz says, “which solved every problem we had while traveling through dimensions.”
“You didn’t remember that?” You ask, confused.
Fitz shakes his head, “we lost the blueprint with your notes when the Bus blew up.”
“The what blew up?” Barnes asked, confused.
“It was our mode of transportation,” Jemma explains, “an older model of a helicarrier.”
“And our home during that time,” you add on softly.
“When was that?” Phastos asks.
“When shield fell, right?” You look over to Jemma who nods.
“So the end of 2014,” you inform Phastos, before adding, “A few days later Coulson and I located Loki’s scepter.”
“And I joined the Avengers.,” you add on softly.
Flashes of Natasha beside you going through empty halls fills your mind. Your heart pangs, but you swallow, nodding for Jemma to continue.
“We lost any hint of the right equation,” Jemma divulges, “but we knew when you fixed it in the first place.”
“When we went back in time to fight the Chronicoms-”
“The what?” You cut Fitz off, confused.
“Chronicoms,” he repeats, “synthetic robot-like race of beings. We went back in time to stop them from erasing S.H.I.E.L.D. from existence.”
“Why did they want to do that?” Ikaris asks.
“They wanted to establish Earth as their home base,” Jemma explains solemnly.
“Fuck,” you lean back in your chair.
“We had the upper hand though,” Fitz assures, “I studied something called the time stream.”
The time stream? What even is that?
“That’s a myth,” Bruce scoffs, but sits up straighter, “right?”
Fitz shakes his head, “We got a copy of it.”
“What is a time stream?” Bucky cuts in to ask.
“It predicts the future,” Fitz states.
“How?” Sam prompts.
“It calculates the likelihood of things to happen in the future based on past actions,” Fitz clarifies, “we were able to quantify our success rate based on our actions.”
You scrunch your eyebrows, “we need to break down a timeline,” you tilt your head to the ceiling, “Rosalind, pull up a whiteboard.”
-
An hour later, you’re updated to the last few years apart from Fitzsimmons.
“So the Chronicoms have been on Earth longer than we have?” Phastos asks, pointing at the timeline you had created hovering over the conference room table.
“Enoch and who?” You’re looking at Fitz for the answer. It pinged the two highly advanced individuals that weren’t quite robots as being on Earth for 30,000 years.
“Doesn’t matter,” he shrugs, “they were sent to study the human race. They were called the anthropologists of their kind.”
“So you, Jemma and Enoch sent yourselves off into a distant star system last year to plan to defeat these things that are coincidently Enochs' race?” You piece their story together slowly.
“I studied the time stream for years,” Fitz says, “we spent years planning, because, well because-”
“We’d be able to go back in time to right where we left,” Jemma finishes his thought, before taking a sip of tea.
You took a break an hour into the interrogation, knowing you’d need snacks and drinks to sort through all the new information thrown at you.
“But before we did that,” Fitz says, “we went back in time to get you.”
You scrunch your eyes at the information, “it gave you the exact outcome of everything?”
“Not exactly,” Jemma tells you, “it predicts the likelihood of future events.”
“And you used that information to fuck with the entire timeline we’re in,” you state bluntly.
“If we didn’t the entire Earth would be run by Chronicoms,” Fitz says, passionately, “humans would have ceased to exist.”
“We wouldn’t have let that happen,” Ikaris raises his voice.
“You wouldn’t have been able to handle it,” Fitz cut in, loud, “you can barely handle the aliens you’ve fought for years.”
“Hey now,” Sam cuts in, “let’s keep it civil.”
“Why me?” You ask quietly.
There’s a pause, before Fitz speaks carefully, “It was between you or Phastos,” he admits, “there was a hindrance in acquiring, but with a higher rate of survival if we were able to get you into the future and have you solve the equation.”
“You mean Ikaris,” Phastos says with a scoff.
You squeeze Ikariss’ hand as Fitz hesitates to answer.
“Ikaris was a large factor,” Jemma slowly says, “and it had to be accounted for.”
Ikaris slams his fist on the table abruptly, “so you faked her death?”
The two are silent, which is enough of an answer.
“How?” Ikariss’ voice is low, and you can tell he’s trying to control his anger. You reach over and grab his clenched fist from the table, relaxing it in your hand.
“After studying the timestream we found the perfect opportunity,” Jemma explains.
“You said this thing only predicted the future,” Sam points out.
“If you travel to the past point in time,” Bruce speaks up, “that time period will then be your future.”
“How did you fake her death?” Ikaris repeats himself louder.
“We didn’t do it alone,” Fitz says, almost admitting the information in a way.
“You had the robot help you,” Bucky clarifies, “right?”
“Yes, Enoch helped us,” Fitz answers, before taking a deep breath, “we created a life model decoy, but we sold everything with the power of illusions.”
“You’re saying you have magic powers now too?” Sam is the first to speak.
Wait.
Jemma shakes her head solemnly, “that’s not what he’s saying.”
“Oh my god,” you gape at the two scientists in front of you, “are you fucking serious?”
Phastos stands, pushing himself away from the table, “I don’t believe you.”
“We didn’t want to-” Fitz tries to defend himself, but you put your hand out.
“Shut the fuck up Fitz,” you snarl, “you manipulated her.”
“Are you saying Sprite created the illusion of Y/N’s death?” Ikaris asks with a low voice.
“She was willing to help-” Fitz starts again, but Bucky cuts him off.
“The kid on their team?” He looks at Sam who nods his head.
“So Sprite knew Y/N wasn’t dead?” Ikaris asks, hand turning to fists and eyes starting to shine. You place your hand over his clenched hand close to you, closing making him release the fist.
“Sprite didn’t know,” Jemma interjects quickly as if trying to diffuse the situation, “we altered her memory immediately after.”
“With the same tech you used on Y/N?” Phastos interrogates, thoroughly mad.
“That doesn’t make it better,” you insist, squeezing Ikaris’ hand in yours, “you still used her.”
“We didn’t use her,” Fitz says with a louder voice, “she knew exactly what she was doing.”
“That’s fucked up,” Bucky states before he looks over to you, “want me to kill them now?”
“Woah woah woah,” Fitz interjects with his hands up, “you can’t kill us for this.”
It happens so fast that when your eyes open from blinking, Ikaris has Fitz pinned by the neck against the wall, “can’t I?” Ikaris seethes into Fitz face, eyes ablaze.
“Fitz!” Jemma screams, standing up quickly, but one look from Bucky has her sitting back down.
You’re up in an instance after, gripping his bicep tightly, “Ikaris stop,” you choke out, heart racing.
“They did this to you,” he squeezes his hand tighter and you hear Jemma sob behind you.
“Let go,” you trail your hand down to his fingers and pull, “now.”
He releases his fingers with a ragged breath and Fitz drops with a thump.
Jemma drops to her knees as you pull Ikaris away from the now unconscious Fitz. Without a word you pull him out of the room with a shaky hand, mind racing with anxiety as you make your way to your room.
Your hands shake as you try to open the door. Ikaris gently places his hand over yours and turns the door slowly.
As soon as he closes it you sob, throwing your arms around his shoulders and stuffing your wet face into his neck.
He lifts you up immediately, kissing the side of your forehead, “I know love, I know.”
He sets himself on the edge of your bed with you in his lap as he rubs up and down your back, “let it out.”
“Thi-is” you hiccup from sobbing and your voice is muffled in his neck, “fucking su-ucks.”
He knows what you said though, “we’ll figure it out love,” he smooths down your hair and kisses your temple, “and everything will be okay.”

You’re wearing a dress to work for the first time.
You walk to the lab in your new outfit, a bright smile on your face as you greet the agents who pass your way. Mack even does a double-take on his way by, and you hear him mutter, “damn, Stardust.”
You grin and duck your head, a reaction you can’t help whenever he calls you that. Stardust, because you specialise in astronomy.
You’ve been pretty shy here. It’s tough to adjust to any new job, but this one is even harder to crack - these people are like family. So it takes you a while to work up the courage to draw attention to yourself, even just to wear something pretty like this.
The lab doors open and you walk inside, announcing your presence with each click of your heels, clutching your research to your chest.
Your boss, Agent Simmons, is bent over a microscope, studying her latest project. She doesn’t even look up, just calling out to you while she continues to make adjustments. “Ah! You’re finally here.” Then, a few moments later. “I am assuming that’s my brilliant assistant I hear?”
“Yeah it’s me,” you say with a chuckle, shaking your head to yourself. You set your bag down and start to set up. “And actually, I’m early - don’t tell me you stayed overnight again?”
She doesn’t respond, not even looking up from her work.
You sigh and turn away from your desk, deciding to go and get your boss some water, since you know on instinct that she hasn’t moved from her desk in quite a while. Some days you don’t know how she would survive without you.
“I’ll be back in a minute.”
You draw more stares now, various agents glancing your way as you hurry down to the break room, your dress flouncing with each step.
It makes you flustered, so much so that by the time you get back to Jemma, setting the glass of water down on the table with a firm thud, you feel embarrassed, hot, and breathless.
She finally looks up from her work. Her eyes go to the glass of water on the table first, and then to you.
“Oh,” she breathes, her gaze dropping to your dress and lingering for a little longer than is polite. “Thank - thankyou.”
You suddenly realise how close you are to her, and the heat of embarrassment you’re already feeling spreads even further. Your stomach flips with nerves.
Your boss is gorgeous, but she’s never looked at you before. She’s always been friendly and smart, but untouchable.
But now, she seems almost... speechless.
You clear your throat. “I thought you might be thirsty.” Shit. “You know, uh, because you probably haven’t had anything to drink in a while...”
She finally draws her gaze back up to your face, and she gives you an absent-minded smile. “You thought correctly!” she gushes, taking the glass and tucking some of her hair behind her ear. “Thank you. You always seem to... know what I need.”
Your heart pounds irrationally loudly in your chest. You try not to read too much into this moment. She’s probably just too dehydrated to think straight.
You quickly return her smile and back away back to the safety of your own desk.
She watches you head back to your desk, her cute lab assistant who she’s never really noticed before now. Good lord, that dress, she thinks to herself, and lifts her glass to her lips to try and quench her sudden thirst.

Review: Octopolis, Downstairs at Hampstead Theatre
Thursday, 5th October — By Lucy Popescu

Jemma Redgrave and Ewan Miller in Octopolis. [The Other Richard]
OCTOPOLIS Hampstead Theatre Downstairs 4 stars
IN Marek Horn’s imaginatively layered play, two scientists bond while studying an octopus. Professor George Grey (Jemma Redgrave) is a respected behavioural biologist who, together with her late husband, carried out pioneering research into octopus intelligence.
After his death, George remains in her campus accommodation with Frances, an octopus who inhabits a giant, purpose-built tank. George stops teaching and becomes increasingly reclusive. Their quiet sanctuary is disturbed by Harry (Ewan Miller), an ambitious anthropologist, tasked with a research assignment of his own and eager to test his theory.
George and Harry are immediately suspicious of one another but their mutual interest in Frances, and endless curiosity, gradually thaws their chilly reserve and an intimacy develops.
We never meet Frances but the changing colour of her aquarium (courtesy of Jamie Platt’s lighting) suggests her presence. Frances’ camouflage, George observes, reflects an awareness of her social environment and is a form of communication.
Octopolis is partly set in the past, concludes in the present but also imagines an alternative future where the pair dance to David Bowie. Balancing humour and pathos, it’s superbly acted and Ed Madden’s pitch-perfect production is quietly mesmerising.
