Tiktok from the newest jimquisition episode. All that these “scary trans folks” ask of you is that you actually put your money where your mouth is and take a stand instead of promoting. But because you don’t know how to take criticism, you’re going to throw an already oppressed minority under a bus that’s been going for longer than you’ve been on earth.

Actvision Blizzard decides to "improve" diversity in their games by quantifying things like ethnicity, culture and sexual orientation.
Just another, sadly unsurprising step in Blizzard's long, long journey of promising a more diverse respesentation followed by more sexism and tokenism every time.
Tumblr media
If you don't see what's wrong with that picture, please stop to ask youself how you'd represent something like ethnicity or gender on a numeric scale. And what would 0 on that scale be.
Thankfully, most of the fandom and media seems to react to this idea with well-deserved bewilderment and mockery (like comparisons to phrenology, a racist pseudoscience). Also with obligatory mentions of how this does the opposite of improving the company's image in the light of their bigoted, toxic work culture and corrupt business practices.
Moreover, despite now edited-out claims in the official announcement about the diversity tool, Overwatch 2 developers deny using it or even knowing about it prior to the media buzz.
If we could put a number on how out of touch this is, ActiBlizz PR would score off their little dystopian charts!
But hey, it's not like we've been pointing out for years that Blizz seems to do diversity by begrudgingly ticking off boxes on a list of superficial character features (and only after ticking some boxes multiple times), right?

This video was unfairly and incorrectly age-restricted and kneecapped by YouTube's algorithm for a week because (transphobic) gamer bros didn't like that they gave Tears of the Kingdom a 7/10 and now it's one of the least viewed videos on their channel but it's an excellent video with very intelligent critique on games and reviews so maybe give it a watch to support them if you can

"J.K. Rowling is a transphobe who uses the success of Harry Potter to claim her vile views are justified. Hogwarts Legacy is a game that supports and benefits her, and as a trans person I really need to talk about that, the trolls rallying around it, and the "allies" who sold us out for the sake of a media product. For most people, it'll always be "just a game." For those of us threatened by the vicious little monsters Rowling emboldens, it'll always be something more." - Stephanie Sterling
Edit: Just to make something clear, I, the person who runs this tumblr, see everyone who gave her there money for the Wizzard game as I see any other transphob. If you stand with or enable, activly or passively, a transphob you are functionally a transphob.
The only difference is those who go through mental gymnastics to justify there decision are also cowards.

Tales From the Internet: That Time A Developer Sued A Critic for 15 Million and Predictably Lost
Here’s another thing that my teenage self got interested in as it was happening.  2014, I came home from school with undiagnosed anxiety and sat down to see a new video by Jim Stephanie Sterling about a developer meltdown they were baring witness to centered around a first impression video they did on a game called the Slaughtering Grounds.
At this time steam was beginning to be flooded by raw sewage and the Slaughtering Grounds is just one of the things that bubbled up.  Jim played it and was not impressed, in the video they said something about it being a contender for worst game of the year for their top ten shittest list.  The two developers of Digital homicide saw this and started having a meltdown in front of the whole internet.  The meltdown then began to backfire epically.  It started by mocking Sterling with a review of their review, to which Sterling responded by doing a review of their review of the original review.  Chapter 1 ends with a failed YouTube takedown upon which James Stephanie Sterling posted the original video chronicling the experience thus far.
Now in that video, James Stephanie said it was the worst, and honestly I think they would have forgotten about it in about a month because far worse shit was bubbling up from the Steam store.  It was supposed to be forgotten even by avid Jimquisition viewers who would have occasionally seen in in their recommendations bar.  Destined to be left behind with all the Day Z asset flips.  The meltdown however implemented the Streisand effect, where any attempt to hide or silence the criticism only brought more attention towards it.
Now pause, grab a cup of tea, because things start escalating from here, because throughout 2015 Digital Homicide would not let up.  There is even an interview between James Romine (one of the two brothers involved in Digital Homicide) and James Sterling that went hilariously bad for digital homicide where Romine would lose his train of thought, and claim that Sterling was insulting women by wielding a novelty dildo sword with floppy action, this was in the context of a Digital Homicide game that was literally about beating the crap out of a woman for money.  James Stephanie would continue to review the games Digital Homicide put out, purely out of spite.
Then in 2016 the lawsuit began, most of it was just spurious at best, and would qualify more as a slapp lawsuit.  The one big thing that was supposed to take Sterling down was in and article Sterling published on the Jimquisition.com that made an assertion that a Shutterstock image was taken off of google images.  Sterling realized it was a wrong assumption and corrected the article so fast that not even an archive of it exists.  The only reason anyone knows about it is because Sterling will readily admit to it like a responsible adult.  This was the evidence of negligence in the libel lawsuit.  Other claims Sterling noted were just jokes, anyone who saw John Oliver’s piece on slapp suits will know that jokes are legally in the green.  My personal favorite count of libel is when Sterling just sometimes forgets how the last names of the Romine brothers is spelled and would say Romino, and that is somehow an attempt to link them to a mafia family.
Needless to say, this lawsuit was obviously spurious at best and the judge involved was not impressed, ended up giving the Romine’s a hell of a bone by allowing them to refile the suit but with the proper procedures because oh yeah, Romine didn’t have a lawyer which is needed for an LLC to be in a court, and the content of the suit was much more personal at several points.  The lawsuit was also filed in Arizona, where Sterling doesn’t even do business.  Naturally when Sterling got a lawyer, they decided dismissal was the best option, just to save everyone some time.
Also at this time Romine failed to sue 100 anonymous steam users, an action that ended in Steam kicking Digital Homicide off of the platform, thus killing the company.  The main lawsuit was then dismissed with prejudice, meaning that Sterling just had to tank their legal fees, but the lawsuit would be no more.
This summary skips over so many details, like the events that happened during the lawsuit and if you want the full story, here’s a link to James Stephanie Sterling’s complete breakdown of the lawsuit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qS-LXvhy1Do
Honestly at this point Sterling is almost an expert on the Streisand effect, because this was not the first, nor the last time a developer had a meltdown about a review.  They have been plagued by copyright strikes for years.  As for Digital Homicide, they have gone back into obscurity and whenever they are brought up in conversation, people will immediately think of James Stephanie Sterling.  To think that none of this would have happened if the Romine brothers would have just ignored the original first impression.
