The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum opened a new exhibit this weekend, “Western Edge,” exploring the roots of country rock growing out of LA in the 1970s.  

They opened the exhibit with a grand concert including some of the greats--Chris Hillman, Richie Furay, Vince Gill (of course), John Jorgenson, and Herb Pedersen to name a few, as well as my favorite guitar teacher Denny Sarokin (front and center, nailing those high notes).

Rolling Stone Magazine Top 250 Guitarists - The Omissions List

Once again, Rolling Stone Magazine puts together a list that no one asked for and it's a complete mess. Instead of analyzing craft and technique, Rolling Stone goes for popularity and mediocrity. Who in their right mind thinks that Joni Mitchell, not known primarily for her guitar work, is Top 10 material, but Slowhand himself, Eric Clapton only worth making it it to 35? Also, why is The Edge, probably the worst guitarist ever, have a place in the top 50 and Jose Feliciano, a master of classical style, not even crack the top 200? I can go on for hours about the inconsistencies, but for now, I will focus on the many guitarists that Rolling Stone left off.

A little kitten took a long ride from Minneapolis to Brooklyn Center on a Metro Transit bus Friday morning.

After a bus arrived at Brooklyn Center Transit Center an operator heard a kitten crying, seemingly somewhere in the bus. 

Daniel Kaus, mechanic technician at Martin J Ruter Garage, got a call asking if he was good with cats. 

“I said, ‘Cats? Do you mean caterpillar engines?’ And he said, ‘no, meow meow cats,’” Kaus said. 

He grabbed his jacket and hit the road. 

He heard the meows as he arrived – a kitten in distress. As the bus sits low, Kaus couldn’t really see underneath. He decided the best option was to slowly drive the bus back to the garage less than a mile away and lift it using a heavy-duty tire jack. 

Once the bus was lifted Kaus saw the kitten had moved from behind the center dual tires to a new spot, and was staring at Kaus, scared but waiting to be rescued. 

Kaus put on thick gloves and then tried to free the cat while it hissed and scratched. After he was free, the kitten ran around the garage and crawled into another bus and the process started over again. 

After the kitten came out of the second bus, he was put into a cardboard box with blankets, water and a fresh ham sandwich.

This was the first time Kaus rescued a cat from under a bus but said with the cold temperatures we have been having, it is common for cats to crawl under vehicles to stay warm.

While Kaus had dibs first on adopting the kitten, who he named Turbo because he was sitting near the turbocharger of the bus, he wasn’t sure how it would work with his two young kids. 

So instead Kaus’s friend and coworker Dan Jorgenson took Turbo to the vet in Coon Rapids to be checked out this afternoon and will be adopting him.

As of late Friday evening Jorgenson signed Turbo up for a health plan and was preparing the kitten for his new life, according to John Komarek, communications specialist with Metro Transit.

"Arthur," Dutch called out, grabbing the young man's arm as he passed. Arthur paused, seeing the worried crease to Dutch's brow. "Arthur, will you ride into town with me?"

"Sure," Arthur drawled. "Why?"

"Hosea," Dutch sighed. Arthur groaned.

"I thought you were watching him, keeping him in camp?"

"I was," Dutch huffed. "But I stepped away for five minutes to relieve myself. When I came back he and Silver Dollar were gone,"

"I'm sure he's fine," Arthur sighed. "Just at the saloon. He'll stumble back in a few hours, drunk off his feet but fine." In truth Arthur was getting a little tired of worrying about Hosea. The man had practically raised him through his later teenage years. It was... Uncomfortable trying to take care of him now. He was a difficult drunk. And while Hosea would never raise a fist to Arthur, even out of his mind with drink, it still brought up some awful memories of Lyle Morgan.

They'd been doing their best to keep Hosea in camp, keep an eye on him, and try to limit him to a bottle or two a day. Arthur had handed John all the booze left in camp and told the teen to hide it somewhere Hosea would never think of.

But if Hosea slipped away for a day and went into town, well they'd just have to work harder tomorrow to get him sober.

Even if they had to bail him out of the jailhouse, they'd do that just fine. The local sheriff was a reasonable man. He knew Hosea well enough. They'd stayed in the area this past year, not wanting to drag Hosea too far away from his beloved's final resting place. Many mornings Arthur found himself on Sheriff Jorgenson's porch, hat in hand, promising he'd do better to keep his friend in check.

The others in the gang had already given up. Susan just flat-out avoided Hosea. Her screeching at him and scolding him had only resulted in some harsh words. Only Dutch, Arthur and John still held out hope that they could save Hosea from his self-destructive path.

"Arthur," Dutch said darkly, "Don't you know what day it is?"

Arthur paused, doing a quick calculation in his head. If last Sunday was... And that was how many days ago...? Then today was...

"Shit," Arthur grumbled. "Is that today?"

"It is," Dutch said grimly. "One year since he lost her,"

"We gotta find him before his temper gets him killed," Arthur said, turning and striding toward his horse. Dutch fell in alongside Arthur.
