[ Jughead's fiance, Brett, is delicate with money, - his money. Never Jughead's. Jughead's money was a vice meant to be consumed like chmpagne. His fiance was particular about his objects. His husband was smart.

His husband loses him in a game of poker.

Sweet Pea is a young flame; A romance Jughead should've left in that alley he fished the man from, drenched in blood and harmed and holed through with a bullet.

A pretty fantasy that made sense framed in fairy tale books. If Prince Charming smelled of blood and violence and gun powder cologne. But not anywhere else. At least, that's what Jughead tells himself.

" I love my husband."

And Sweet Pea hums, serene as anything, glowing golden as sunrays showered their beloved nest of domesticity in peachy orange.

Ankles folded and perched on Jughead's thigh, bare and smooth and decorated with bite dents and scratches and huge handprints. There's a tremor of delicious something, - shame, desire, love, affection, - rippling through him.

one of Jughead's draft papers in hand, a pen pinched In his fingers, doodling away with a simple smirk, he takes pleasure in this. Jughead can taste it on his lips. " I know you love me, baby. But I appreciate the reassurance."

" You'll have to return me eventually!"

" You can leave me. That's what you like doing, anyway," that hurt in the man's voice breaks him. There's no sting there but it hurts all the same. " But you're pretty young to be a widow."

"... You wouldn't dare."

Sweet Pea's eyes are gorgeous; Even stern and chillingly cold and serious. " There's no sin I wouldn't do for you. If you want me gone, if you want nothing to do with me, if you're rejecting me, let me know. But don't ask me not to protect you. Don't ask me not to love you. " ]

I was... encouraged. So there are posts about this coming (because moodboards are relatively quick to make compared to like.... 5+ chapter fics, which is what I would need to cover even a third of this massive AU), but I'll happily babble about it I love it so much.

The short version: I was left alone with the login to the Hallmark app (so really this is Kit's fault) and watched Jeremy Jordan's movie, Mix Up In The Mediterranean? And my head immediately turned it into a Moustead AU, but like... the set up for that would require all of the Halstead family backstory? And how Will and Connor got together? And yes, the Halsteads have a family restaurant, because I stole literally ~90% of this from that movie.

Like, this is the bare bones of this huge, massive plot:

Will, fully aware that he's queer, runs away from Canaryville and his family as soon as he can, and completely intends to go through medical school and be a doctor. Once he's in New York, he meets Matt Cooper, an older med student who seems interested in him, and their "relationship" lasts less than a year before it completely falls apart. All of that (the realization that he was being cheated on and used the entire time) sends Will into this spiral of a depression, and he drops out of school but can't bare to go home and admit failure, so he stays in New York and tries to build a life for himself there.

He ends up working at this little diner, just cooking for tourists and businessmen, and he realizes how much he misses cooking after helping with the family business back in Chicago. So he starts taking cooking classes on weekends, and then enrolls in culinary school, and on one of his shifts at the diner, he meets this customer (Connor) who is back in the States after going to med school in Guadalajara, and they just start talking and they hit it off.

And of course Will is guarded after the last relationship he had was awful and traumatizing, but they move slow in their relationship, and Connor settles in New York instead of going back home to family in Chicago, and after Will finishes culinary school, they get married and open up a fancy restaurant together (Connor's family money + Will's cooking skills = success)

Jump to three years later, Jay and Will haven't seen each other since the wedding. Jay stayed in Chicago and is still working at the family restaurant (under new ownership since their parents died), holding a grudge against Will for not being there through all of that and living in New York with his "perfect" life instead of actually helping out when the family needed him.

Will (technically, his restaurant, but he's the representative) gets invited to this cooking competition in Greece, and he gets to invite two people, so in addition to bringing Connor (because of course), he invites Jay to go with them. Because it's a week in Greece, completely paid for by the hosts of the competition, in a really nice hotel, with their flights and everything completely included. And they haven't seen each other in three years, and even if everything is really strained, he still misses his little brother.

So Jay agrees to go, reluctantly, and is grouchy and complaining the entire first day because he's still upset about everything (which is allowed, even when he doesn't know the whole story), and they're bickering the whole time, and Connor is very annoyed but like. affectionately.

And then Will gets hurt. Not bad, but enough that he shouldn't be competing in a physically demanding competition in the Grecian heat. So Jay steps up and fills his spot in the competition, because he's been cooking just as long as Will has, he just doesn't have all the fancy training. But he's armed with family recipes and enthusiasm, so he knows he'll do okay. He might not win, but at least it means Will (and the restaurant) doesn't have to drop out and risk the bad publicity of that.

Will tries to control a lot of it, of course, because it's his name and his restaurant that will be affected by how well or poorly Jay does in the competition, and Jay pushes back because he's Jay and he knows he can do this if his brother will just let him do it. And it's the two of them both learning to let go and trust the other after so many years of grudges and poor communication.

The side plot is that Greg Gerwitz (IV) is trying to break off from his family's legacy, and the competition is kind of his dream event. It's in his favorite country, and it's big enough that he'll get plenty of recognition, so even if he's only getting the planning gig because of his family name, it's a jumping off point to establish his own identity separate from his parents. It's his dream to be an event planner, and travel, and see the world and exist apart from the legacy he'd be forced to live up to back in Chicago.

Yes, he flirts with Jay, and he shares his emergency chocolate stash with him when they're both sitting by the fountain outside the hotel one night super stressed by the pressures of family and the competition.

And I cannot emphasize how much this is the bare bones of this universe. It's so much and I wanna play in it so bad but I don't have time.

Road trips with Sweet Pea would include:

•Going to the store to stock up on plenty of snacks for you and ya boi, no one wants a hangry pea

•Packing your bags and having to check and repack his because there’s no way this boy only needs two pairs of underwear and no phone charger.

•Stretches of long road just speeding down the glistening pavement, the radio blaring along in the background as you guys sing along. Sweet Pea with one hand on the wheel and a hand entwined with yours

•Stopping at rest stops for a short break but ending up exploring the area for a good picture and handing your phone to Sweets while you pose, which of course he doesn’t mind because he would do anything for you

•Staying at weird little motels that you find along the way. You settle in and order pizza while Sweets hits up corner store for a six pack, spending the night giggling and watching bad cable tv shows until one of you eventually passed out

•Sneaking pictures of him while he’s not paying attention (or so you think)
