I forgot how sad this scene was. This scene was so heartbreaking 😭 when Billy whispered his name and he heard 🥺 the fact that he didn’t want Billy to see him die and the little nod he does to him to say goodbye , before he goes somewhere separate to die alone. Chavez was my favourite out of all of them and he had the most saddest death scene from them all 🥺

Longing - Part 3
P1 P2
Tumblr media
By the time you made it back to the ranch, you had cried yourself to sleep. Tears stained Chavez’s black shirt, and his coat was wrapped around your shoulders. Dick gently pulled you from your safe space in Chavez’s arms while he dismounted. Silently, Chavez took you from Dick and carried you to your room. Your eyes opened as your tense body fell against the softness of the mattress, and the agony from the morning hit you again. Frantically your eyes searched the room for comfort and you choked back a sob. “Chavez..Please. Please tell me he isn’t gone. Please.” It felt as if Murphy himself was ripping Chavez’s heart out of his chest while watching the tears fall freely from your eyes, your body shaking from the sobs and heartache. He pulled you to him, holding you so tight that he may crush you. The two of you sat that way, clinging to each other like burrs on a saddle. When all your tears had been cried, you listened. Silence. Something you had always craved, but was now so unwelcome.
You stood surrounded by your boys, Alex, and Susan as your father was laid to rest. “For as much as it hath pleased Almighty God, in his wise providence, to take out of this world the soul of our deceased brother, we therefore commit his body to the ground. Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust.” Susan led you to the wagon while Alex led the boys to JP Wilson. “You can stay with us for as long as you need to Y/n. I know how hard it will be to try to go home now.” You gave her a soft smile as Alex joined you, driving you towards home.
“Deputized?! Alex no! First of all I was his DAUGHTER! I should be there right along with them. Am I not allowed justice? And second, you’re going to let hot-headed Bonney go off with AUTHORITY?” “Y/n. You are a lady.” Alex’s voice grew stern as he send an almost disapproving look to you. “I know that you are more than capable of taking care of this and yourself, but this is not something you need to do. As for Billy, he has five other level headed young men to keep his straight. They’ll serve their eleven warrants, and it will all be over.”
For days you were a nervous wreck. There had been no word from or about the boys, and worry began gnawing at your thoughts. Your nail beds had become red and raw from anxiously picking at them. Mindlessly, you floated towards the barn searching for a distraction. Before you could reach it, Alex came riding up the road pulling the wagon to a stop next to you. “Any news, Alex?” Your voice was soft and quiet, but full of hope and worry awaiting any news of your boys. Alex sighed as the paper passed into your hands. “You may have been right about Billy.” He snapped the reins and headed to the house, leaving the dust swirling around you. “"Nine men lay dead or at death's door yesterday noon following a gunfight between Lincoln resident Henry Hill, forty-five, and what patrons have called a ‘kid’. A local miner has identified 'the Kid’ as one Henry McCarthy, also known as William H. Bonney, nineteen or twenty. In a flaming shootout 'the Kid', Billy, killed Mr. Hill then took on an onslaught of Hill's partisans bringing the damage to six verified slayings. Bonney is believed to be the captain of a deputized gang.” Murphy is going to kill them all.

There had to be a way out of the mess Billy had created for them, and Chavez only knew one way to find the answer. Snow crunched beneath his bare feet as he searched the ground, gathering what he needed. Darkness soon surrounded the Regulators, with only a soft light from the fire to illuminate the cup being passed around the circle. “We've come to a place where we are lost, no? When an Indian is lost, he must reach into the spirit world to find the way. On the Spirit Road, he'll be shown a sign. This is the way to the Spirit Road. We're lost right now. But I'll find us the way.” Steve rolled his eyes as the cup made its way to him, “Oh Christ, Chavez! That's all we need is some more of your red-ass Navajo mambojahambo. We're running out of time here, Chavez.” “Is that any good? Chavez, what is that?” Charley looked worried looking at the cup being passed around. A simple reply was given, “Peyote.”
The sun was rising over the mountains, the light slowly filtering through the dust and smoke surrounding Chavez on the ledge he was standing atop. Slowly he turned facing North. East. South. The land was red and the rivers ran with blood in every direction. There must be a way. Please Great Spirits, show me the way. Turning to the west, the blood vanished. A woman turned to greet him, her arms outstretched and her hair flowing in the soft breeze. He reached towards her, only to watch her be pulled onto a golden brown mare and riding off towards Old Mexico. West.

For her
the ocean was more than a dream,
it was a place
she needed to visit to find herself.
and when she returned
to the city,
you could see
the sun in her eyes,
the wind in her hair,
and taste the infinite salt
on her lips.
-jose chaves
thoughts: i feel deeply connected to this poem, a poem i randomly stumbled upon when i was younger and was intensely searching for myself. it s been a lot of time since then, a lot of trial and error, but now i can proudly say that u can see the sun in my eyes, the wind in my hair and taste the salt on my lips.

Snippets- Vol #1 (Young Guns)
Whiskey and wine was aromatic and wafting as Rose crouched as low as possible on the rooftop, loaded bow held at her side, watching the saloon across the street with immense stillness and patience, just like she had been for the past thirty minutes
She waited..waited...waited...
Her patience was just beginning to grow slim, the grip on her recurve bow loosening ever so slightly, when, finally, her roguish twin Ransom came sauntering out the saloon, a smirk on his lips as he stood on the porch, hands placed proudly upon his hips. His eyes quickly darted to hers, so fast that if she blinked she would have missed it, and she knew what it meant. She had been waiting for this all day..
The right corner of her mouth cocked up in a prideful grin, and in one fluid motion she was standing, dashing towards the back of the two-story motel-diner that was her temporary perch.
She leapt off the roof, landing precariously in the tree that acted as her ladder. Descending as swift and quietly as possible, the lean archer landed with a light 'thump'on the earth below. She peered around the corner, searching for her brother, when she felt someone's breath on her neck.
Rose startled, whipping around only to see her impish brother grinning at her. She heaved a great sigh of relief and leaned back, tired, against the wooden wall. "You nearly gave me a heart attack" She whispered breathlessly. Ransom only grinned wider. "You're not that old" She shook her head, running a hand through her hair to calm herself and re-focus.
She noticed he was doing the same thing, and that made her smile.
She shook her head then stood up straight, fully sober and prepared for whatever came next."Where's he at?" She questioned. They were on the fifth bounty hunt that month, and the streak was too good to break now. Nothing personal, simply pocket (or in this case, kidnap) the target, bring it to the charger and trot back home with a bulging sack of cash. Easy.
Usually..
Ransom poked his head around the corner. "Right there , actually" Rose's eyes widened. "Go!" She hissed, ushering her brother away. He whisked off around the opposite side of the building as she crouched amongst the brush and trees, bow drawn as a precaution if the job goes south. She watched Ransom and the target -a tall, lanky, rough-looking middle aged man- casually strike up a conversation. Ransom had spiked his drink while they were in the saloon, now he was just killing time while the sedative took its toll on the scronny man. Then he would tie him up, drag him back to their horses and deliver him to the client.
She heard voices behind and to her right, what she estimated was about fifty yards away. She multi-tasked, listening to the approaching voices -what she now confirmed as two men- and the target ahead of her. However, she started to feel an odd feeling, like a presence in her sixth sense, (that was her most cherished sense, of all of them) She turned, and nearly yelped when she saw a man staring at her.
She sprang to her feet, bow aimed directly at his chest in an instant. He was approximately ten feet away, his arm raised to launch a deadly knife at her any second. He couldn't have been older than 20, with a large fur cloak draped across his shoulders. That combined with his dark hair and skin made nice camouflage in the brush and shrubbery. But he kept still, staring at her.
They both stood there, poised to pierce each others hearts, but kept still, glaring into each others eyes.. Rose's hair fell in strings in front of her face, but she dared not move, she could tell he was skilled, simply by the way he held the blade and his stance, and, frankly, it intimidated her a little. But she wouldn't let him know that, she stood her ground, her dark eyes boring into his as they silently tested each other's will.
This went on for another few moments, until finally, he smirked.
"Shoot it" He dared. He had an accent she couldn't place, but his voice was quiet and lethal. "Throw it"She countered with a cocky attitude, despite the fear welling up inside her. Her voice, unlike his, sounded a bit hoarse and tired. The result of their latest mission, which, she remembered, was still happening. They sized each other up, Rose drawing the slack from her bow, just about to shoot when-
"ROSE!!" Ransom bellowed, and then everything snapped. A gunshot ripped through the air, she ducked down, instinctively releasing the arrow in the process. She hit the dirt, and searing pain tearing through her shoulder as she tried to reload her weapon. The man had fallen, too, a bullet hole through his thigh and an arrow in his bicep. She couldn't help but feel bad,as her brother bounded up to her, seizing her by her not-wounded arm and hoisting her up. The man had somehow managed to get up and make his way behind the building. Ransom had been to preoccupied with his sister to pay him any mind.
Ransom looked at her with terror in his eyes "Rose? Rose, are you alright? Rose!" He shook her gently, only causing the pain to spike. "Quit shaking me!" She barked, a little too aggressive then she meant to be. Ransom looked at her again with those awful, sorrowful eyes. "I'm sorry" He mumbled, barely audible as he scanned over her wound. The man had been taken off guard by the gunshot, but managed to still fling his knife towards Rose, originally aiming for her chest, but still ended up pretty close.
Rose winced as her brother picked her up, knowing she had lost too much blood to walk to the hospital. She only just now noticed her blouse and jacket were now both soaked in sticky crimson. Ransom comforted her as he rushed as quick as he could to get her help, although she could see the fear in his eyes. Dark brown, almost black irises, just like hers. It comforted her, reminding her of their father.
She whispered a quiet 'thank you' to him, her twin, the only family she had, the only person that loved her...

❗️spoiler ❗️
We can all agree that his death scene was heartbreaking 😭 the way he separated himself from everybody else , so he could die alone and no one could see him at his final moments 🥺
