@taznovembercelebration - remember or forget
Dying wasn't bad it was just- sudden. One moment, Magnus was leaning over the counter to talk to Julia, who was twirling a strand of hair on her finger. Steven was behind her, rolling his eyes and putting papers away from their last order. Then, an explosion sounded from further down the street, shaking the floors and sending furniture every which way. Before Magnus could even begin to get his footing back, the ceiling of Hammer and Tongs caved in with another impact and he was dead.
It took him a second to realize, even. The massive rush of vertigo left him reeling. When he looked up, he wasn't in Hammer and Tongs anymore. In fact, he didn't even seem to be in Raven's Roost. He was kneeling in the middle of a long queue, people at his left and right. There was a black velvet rope keeping them all in order.
"Magnus," somebody said. Magnus looked up to see his next-door neighbor, who offer a hand to help him up. Magnus went to take it, still unsteady on his feet, and paused halfway up. "Magnus?"
Oh.
Ohhhh, no. No, this was bad. He wasn't supposed to- he had been- Magnus fell back down, suddenly gripped with all that he had forgotten. The velvet rope came down with him. Home, his real home, on his original planar system. The mission and the Hunger. He remembered the sound of Merle's laugh- he didn't know where Merle was. Fuck, he didn't know where anyone was. Barry, Taako, Davenport, Lup- fuck had someone found Lup yet? Had Lucretia-
Lucretia.
"Magnus!"
He had walked in on her feeding her journals to Fisher. She must have found a way around the memory block, because she was smart and Magnus knew she wouldn't have done that if no one would be there as a backup. She had been planning this for a while, hadn't she? How- how many years had it been? He didn't know. That scared him, just a little. One part of his mind said that he had been in Raven's Roost the whole time and the other was remembering his mother's garden, their little house that he never managed to find on any of his jogs.
She had to have had a good reason. He couldn't- she wouldn't betray them if she didn't have a good plan. Like, Magnus wasn't a magic person, but maybe she had thought her idea could work? Maybe? From what he knew, it deffo wouldn't have, but maybe? But that begs the question of why. Why did she have to do it alone? Why couldn't she just talk to them? Why... why hadn't she trusted him? Why did she stash him away in Raven's Roost-
"Magnus, baby, look at me," there was a hand cupping his face. Magnus looked up. Julia. And next to her, Steven. "Are you okay?"
"We fucked up," he said.
"No," Julia said. "No, we didn't. It's not our fault that Kalen-"
"No," Magnus said. He felt like he was shifting through the static with each blink. Blink, he grew up with two suns and that's why he was always so cold. Blink, he and Taako and Merle were sitting around a campfire, the Light stored in Magnus's backpack. Blink, Davenport was teaching him how to drive the Starblaster. Blink, he was watching Barry and Lup perform. Blink, meeting Lucretia, annoying her to the point of friendship, the late nights they spent up together reminiscing about home, the teary look on her face as he entered the room- "Not- not you. Me. My- my family."
"You're family," Steven repeated, his eyebrows creased. There was a little bit of a crowd around them now, watching him. "Your moms?"
"No," Magnus said again. He tried to get up and another rush of dizziness went through him. Julia caught him on his way down.
"Mags, just take a deep breath-"
"Julia," he said desperately, gripping her arm. "The Relics."
"The Relics?" Julia said, sounding confused. "Oh, the- like the Phoenix Fire Gau-"
"Yes," Magnus said. "We- Julia, I made one of those."
"You're not making sense, Magnus," Julia said.
"We had to make them," Magnus said, holding her a bit tighter. "The Hun-"
"Alright," said a new voice. Magnus jerked towards the sound. From the midst of the crowd around them came a man in a full three-piece suit. He had a big book open as he came through. He spoke a little louder this time, raising a hand to catch the attention. "Everyone from Raven's Roost, we're going to form a separate line." He gestured to a space off to the right. The velvet ropes dripped away. "Let's see here-"
"I can't be dead," Magnus said. Julia turned back to him, a worried look on her face. Steven was on his tiptoes, looking over the crowd as they moved to the new line.
"I'm sorry," Julia whispered, squeezing his hand. "It's- it's really shitty-"
"I- I can't be," Magnus said. "I have to figure out what the fuck Lucret-"
"I'm so sorry for your- well, your loss, I suppose, but we do need to move lines," said the suited man, pushing Julia along. He held out a hand for Magnus and Magnus took it, stumbling slightly. "Now, once everyone is situated, I can start getting a more organized line in place-"
"I can't be dead," Magnus said to him. "My family-"
"Ooh, sorry," the man grimaced, "but that's now how it works, is it? Listen, I'm sure you've got tons of family here waiting for you already. What's your name?"
"Magnus Burnsides," Magnus said, looking past the man. "If I wanted to get back-"
"Magnus Burnsides," the suited man said. He clicked his tongue a few times, flipping through the book. Julia tugged on his hand to get him to come to the other line. "Burnsides, Burnsides... oh. Burnsides, you say?"
"Yes, but-"
"Oh, no, you won't be in that line," the man said, standing up a little straighter.
"What d'you mean he won't be in that line?" Julia said. "We're both from Raven's Roost-"
"I'm not," Magnus said at the same time the man said,
"Oh, it doesn't really matter where Mangus is from, does it?" He shook his head, using his finger to point to something in his book. He read out loud, "Magnus Burnsides, twenty deaths, no accounts of visiting the Astral Plane before today. I suppose we'd be willing to wager this death off, since you have finally decided to visit us, but the rest?" The man grimaced, though he didn't really look all that upset. "That's not just some rule we can let you off for breaking, is it?"
"Magnus has never died before," Julia said, pushing past Magnus slightly.
"Julia," Magnus said, shaking his head. "I did kinda, uh-"
"I'm sorry, but the book doesn't lie," the man said, snapping said book shut. "The rest of you, I will deal with in a second, but you, Magnus? I have been dying to get to know what your whole deal is."
"Pun-intended?" Magnus tried.
"Oh, pun definitely intended," the man said. "I'm going to have to ask you to come with me peacefully, Magnus."
"And if we say no?" Julia said, now standing in front of Magnus. Magnus caught her hand in his and squeezed.
"If he says no," the man said, grinning. The skin from his face began to drip off, vanishing into smoke at his feet, until all that was left was a skull. He tucked the book under his arm and held out his hand to summon a sharp-looking scythe. The people in line around them shuffled away to avoid getting hit. "Then I supposed I'm going to have to take him in by force."

For fic prompt: #27 Magnulia!! <3
“Can I stay here tonight.”
Anonymous asked: Magnulia + 49. "Stay."
Gonna go two birds with one stone with this one lads!
Julia: you guys live twenty miles away! and he got here in like! 10 minutes!
Killian: Yah he booked it out the door the second you called him
Carey: I'm surprised he didn't just run the entire way
Julia could feel a warmth bloom in her chest at the thought, so she stopped texting and shoved her phone into her pocket. She paused at the stairs that led down to her basement, and adjusted the towels and clothes that were stacked in her arms. Then she peeked in and scanned the room.
From her vantage point, she could barely make out Magnus's figure in the far corner, opposite the stairs. Or half of him at least. The other half was crouched behind a washing machine.
A washing machine that had, not two minutes prior, blasted him with a surge of water stronger than a fire hydrant.
Fortunately, the water was no longer gushing as it had been. But now the floor was completely soaked, and most of the electronics were disconnected, for fear of an electrical shock. A flashlight angled from the top of a bookshelf illuminated the young man, as he leaned back to pull out a curious piece of plastic from the back of the machine.
Julia chided herself, internally She liked Magnus, and from Killian and Carey's message, she felt pretty certain that Magnus liked her too. They weren't dating, but they weren't not dating. They hadn't put words to the thing they were yet. They had been spending a lot of time with each other for the past month. Julia was starting to feel like words desperately needed to be had.
"Knock knock," Julia said, knocking on the door frame with her free hand. "I grabbed some towels and the biggest clothes I could find." She descended the stairs, stopping at the very last one. "You'll have to come over here, since I'm wearing socks and don't want to get into—"
She gestured at the large puddle currently soaking the carpet.
Magnus, almost too quickly, stood up at the sound of her voice. His movements sent flecks of water flying in all directions. In his mouth was another small flashlight, which was a little blinding to look at head-on. His tall, broad frame cut a dark silhouette in the otherwise empty room. To anyone else, he'd look like a phantom.
To Julia, he was no scarier than a firefly.
He took the flashlight out of his mouth and marched over to her. His sopping boots made a terrible suction noise with every step. The basement air felt cool in the nighttime, and Julia worried that all the water made it much colder. She held out a towel the moment he came within reach.
"That's fair," Magnus replied, taking the towel graciously. "I'm already soaked to the bone. Can't get wetter than this." He plopped it on his head to dry his hair. Julia shuffled in place just a bit.
"The clothes are mostly pajamas," she said. "I'm afraid you'll have to make do with my old volleyball t-shirt. Sorry for not turning off the water before you got here."
"Oh, that's okay!" Magnus said, cheerily. He kept the first towel around his neck and grabbed another one to wipe his arms. "I did get here kind of fast."
An understatement, Julia thought. "Got any clue what's wrong?"
"I think the drain box in your washing machine got backed up. That would explain the--" Magnus gestured at the giant puddle on the floor. Julia nodded. He continued, "Best case scenario, you need a new washing machine. Worst case scenario, you may need to call a contractor for a better look at your water pressure."
“Shit, my budget is kind of tight at the moment," Julia said, biting her lip. Her father was across the country for a tradeshow that week, so she couldn't call him up to lend a hand. "Guess it's trips to the laundromat for a bit."
“I know a couple of warehouses that you could shop around from," Magnus said. "As far as plumbing is concerned, I can’t do the switch myself, but I could go to the hardware store and find the right parts. That might save you some money.”
Julia felt that familiar warmth bloom in her chest once again. She wanted to refuse the kind offer since he'd already gone out of his way here and now. But something told her not to. Instead, she asked, “And how would I pay you back for this?"
“Well…” Magnus mulled it over for a second. “A healthy helping of the Waxmen family quiche would cover a solid portion.”
Julia gave a teasing tilt of her head. “Would a glass of sweet tea and a slice of the Waxmen family apple pie sweeten the deal?”
“Most assuredly," Magnus said, smiling right back. And then he sneezed.
Julia remembered that they were standing in a drafty, dark, and wet basement. She backed up a couple steps and exclaimed, "Oh gods, Magnus. Come on upstairs! You're still soaked!"
"Oh. Yeah, I am," Magnus said, looking down at himself like he'd also completely forgotten. He shook off a few more drips of water and followed her with slow, creaking steps out of the basement. "I found the valve for the washer and turned it off, so you should be able to use water in the rest of the house."
"You're a godsend, you know that?" Julia asked, looking back. She meant it casually, as one does. But the smile on Magnus' face was so lovely, that it made her turn back around and hasten her steps. She had it bad. Bad bad.
They emerged into the hallway, into the warmth and light of the rest of the house. Julia deposited her bundle of clothes in Magnus' hands, then dipped into the kitchen to test the water in the sink. Magnus stayed behind to remove his soaking boots and socks, depositing them politely by the doorway.
“You should take a shower while you're here," Julia called to the hallway. "It's pretty late for cooking, but I'll definitely have a quiche ready tomorrow. You want some hot chocolate?"
"I'd love some," Magnus called back.
Julia whirled around the kitchen, grabbing mugs and cocoa powder and other things. She felt like if she stood still, she would burst like a firework. She wasn't ready to dwell on why she felt that way. So this minor task was a good distraction.
She nearly leaped out of her skin when she caught sight of Magnus in the doorway, still holding the clothes. Still somewhat soaked. He stared at her like he was taking a test he hadn't studied for.
“Um, it’s pretty late right now," he said, sounding much quieter than before.
"It's pretty late right now," Julia repeated. She glanced at the time on her oven. It was late. And he was still at her house.
Magnus cleared his throat. “I wouldn't...I'd hate to impose...usually I...can I stay here tonight? I mean--I can drive back, it would be uh...or, I can always hop over to Merle's, it's not much farther from here, and I'd--"
"Stay," Julia said. Magnus stopped talking.
Julia took a step towards him. She wanted to wrap her arms around those burly shoulders, soaking wet after trying to fix an unruly washing machine, that he had dropped everything to come and assist her with, in the middle of the night. For now, she reached up and gently swiped his messy hair from his eyes. At her touch and her words, Magnus' terrified, uncertain stare melted into delightful admiration.
"My home is your home," Julia said, and meant every word.

Idk if anyones mentioned it since I’ve been avoiding posts till I got the book. Although it’s possible I’m looking too into it. But I can’t believe they made Magnus’ insistence on the nickname “the hammer” a sad thing!
He’s the hammer to her tongs….. 🥺

🚫🍦💖🎨 hope that's not too many
not at all! :D
⛔ Do you have a fic you started, but scrapped? (hope this is the one you meant!)
hhhhh several! two of the ones that never reached publication but haunt me are for TAZ Balance; one of them is a collab with @secretlystephaniebrown we still tell each other we should finish someday. the other one was a big ambitious thing about Julia Waxmen and the Ravensroost rebellion that I probably won't ever get back to.
🍦 What's the sweetest fic you've created so far?
Quite probably the one finished fic I did for DC, Deaged Batgirls, which is exactly what it says on the tin.
💖 What made you start writing?
god, I don't even know. I was less than ten years old. I think it was...I read a lot of books and had the surety that I could do that, that I wanted to do that, that I wanted to tell other people those stories.
🎨 How do you feel about fan art of your stories?
unabashedly, i love it. it thrills me to bits. i have no art skills but I love coming up with vivid images and getting to see that other people are also thinking about them and imagining them is. the best thing ever. seeing how other people interpret scenes and what they fill in is also such a treat, it lets me feel like I'm looking at it from the outside. delightful.

Characters Out of Context
➥ Include one character quote — of your choosing — from each chapter of your WIP (or as many chapters as you'd like).
➥ Give absolutely no context, save for what's between two parts of an interrupted sentence, should that occur. You may mention who said it.

@spuddlespud
Thank you for the tag!! :D
So I now have. Two multi-chapter fics going lskghsdlkgha I don’t have much written for the second one which is called Double Troubles, and I can talk more about that for anyone interested, but it’s basically an eighth bird AU except the eighth bird is an OC named Meadow, and they have a body in the Material Plane and a body in the Plane of Logic, and the two bodies share one consciousness that switches between the two when one body goes to sleep and the other wakes up.
Just thought I’d give that little bit of context because I’ve literally never talked about it even existing with anyone except Sunny lol
Also, most of the stuff I have written in the Julia AU is still random pieces of different points in the campaign, so I’m just going to pick a quote from each individual file I have saved lol
And this is all going under a read more because it’s gonna get long
Julia Burnsides vs Canon Lore
Prologue Memory: Steven Waxmen: “I want you to know that no matter what you decide, whether you're ready to do this or not, I'm always going to be here waiting for you.”
Chapter 1: Yeemick: “We got attacked by these four idiots who came to take back our captive. We managed to chase them off, but they said something about wanting to kill you, sir.”
Klaarg: “Oh, that's so weird because four of the loveliest people I have ever met came here, also looking for Barry Bluejeans, and they told me that you sent them to kill me!”
(I know I know, but I had to add Klaarg’s line too because that exchange is really funny slkghsdlgkh)
Chapter 2: Julia: “One, what is electronic dance music? And two, Kenny Chesney isn't that bad. My dad used to be a big fan too, but as far as I know, he wasn't a big enough fan to actually get him tattooed on his ass!”
Taking the Gauntlet and Going to the Moon: Taako: “I did a traveling cooking show called Sizzle it Up with Taako,” Taako says proudly. “And a TV, Julia, is...” His gaze gets a little unfocused as he scrunches his face up in confusion. “It's like... um... I remember there's moving pictures. It lets people see what people are doing from far away I think. That's why I say I'm from TV.”
Killian: “Are you talking about a telescope?”
Julia: “It kind of sounds like those video james Magnus talks about sometimes from his dreams. Doesn't it, babe?”
Meeting the Director: (this isn’t really dialogue, but it is a thought Julia has, so I’m counting it lol) Julia: Oh to be able to be slightly irritated at his ego again instead of full on wanting to murder him, it truly is a blessing.
Lunch Conversation with the Director: Julia: “It's a long time ago now. I just...” She sighs. “I just wish I knew sooner, you know? I understand why everything had to be erased, but it makes it harder knowing in retrospect. Now I'm mourning them again, but it hits a little harder this time around.”
Briefing Before Rockport: Julia: “If she thinks I'm gettin' dress for this, she's sorely mistaken.”
Petals to the Metal Elevator Incident: Julia: “Don't worry, it is plenty impressive for me, babe.” She smirks at the way Magnus' face goes even redder and ignores the other boys cackling behind her. “Should we go up to the vault now?”
Julia’s First Conversation with Leon: Leon: “I don't think it's supposed to make sense to people like us. If it did, we probably wouldn't be here trying to do our part to save the world.”
Lucretia Confronts Them about RR Crystal Kingdom: Julia: “We have the Stones, Merle. And Director, I– I'm sorry, but even if we did try to run away, there weren't many options of places for us to go. He stopped time, or at least, he stopped Lucas and Killian and Carey and Noelle from moving and perceiving time while he was there, so there wasn't anyone we could turn to for help, and our other option was to run out of the room to a crystallized central hallway with almost all of the airlocks shut down. We couldn't go anywhere, and even if we did have a place to hide, it would have been a waste of time to wait for him to leave, and we might not have been able to stop the crystal from spreading.”
Julia Catches Taako Crying After Refuge: Taako: “When I was with the Chalice, some parts of the memories of my childhood looked like static, and I can't help but wonder if the dreams really aren't just another aspect of myself that I've projected as being another person and they actually are something or someone missing. So I started writing a letter to them. Or me. Or whoever or whatever this dream person is.”
Magnus and Julia Talk to Fisher: Julia: “We're going to find out what happened to it. I promise.”
Julia Talks to the Red Robe: Barry: “There's a thing coming. The thing I've been warning you guys about. The hunger of all living things. It'll be here soon, and our only hope of stopping it lies with, well...” The Red Robe looks uncomfortable for a moment. “You were never supposed to get caught up in the equation, Julia, and I am truly sorry for that. None of this was even supposed to happen. But we're here now, and this is happening, so I guess we have to make do with the cards we're dealt with.”
Julia Talks to Magnus About [redacted]: Merle: “You just admitted that you put ketchup on spaghetti when you don't have immediate access to any form of tomato sauce or don't feel like making it.”
Magnus: “I've seen you eat dirt, Merle, so you're one to talk!”
Wonderland Catwalk Scene: Julia: “Leave Taako alone,” Julia says with a shake of her head. She glares at the stupid mannequins and the stupid catwalk with its stupid spotlight shining down on it. “I'll get up there and strut.”
Julia Hears the Story and Song: Julia: “You literally know way more than I do, Merle. You know who the lich that came out of Taako's umbrella is who is apparently his sister I'm assuming?” Magnus nods, so she continues. “I'm assuming you know what's in the sky and currently destroying the world–”
Magnus: “Yup, it's called the Hunger.”
Julia: “According to the Director, you... you're... all of you are from a different reality?” Julia exclaims, and Magnus hums in agreement. “And, what is hap–”
Julia Talks With Leon After S&S: Leon: “You know, your husband is like a roach, you know that right?”
Julia’s Conversation with Taako After S&S: Taako: “I grew up with Lup. Yes. But where the fuck was she for the past twelve years, Julia? Because it certainly wasn't with me!” Taako tries to stand angrily, but as he puts weight on his legs, he curses before sitting back down. “And everyone else! Where were they? Spread all across Faerûn because someone couldn't fucking handle being wrong! Because that person couldn't fucking handle holding a conversation!”
Double Troubles
Chapter 1: Taako: "Fine, if you don't want them, then Merle and I will eat them, and you can just have the stale ass bread."
Chapter 2: Meadow: "Um, yeah actually. I uh– I got back into contact with some old friends in the past couple of days, and just yesterday, I actually got back into contact with a friend I have been trying to reach for a really long time.”
Chapter 3: Merle: “Gundren could be dead by the time we get there, but that's just my opinion.”
Chalice Scene: June/Chalice: “This lead to your fateful argument where you failed to convince her to take off the Amulet, and she used it against you to completely take over your will.”
