THE RULES OF BUTTERCUP CAMP
Rule 1: No friendly fire in the camp.
Rule 1a: NO GRAVEL, NO SAND, NO FALLING BLOCKS
Rule 1b: SCAR THIS MEANS YOU
--- I dont know What you’re talking about
--- You know exactly what I’m talking about!
Rule 1c: Grian is not allowed to make Scar strip down to his underwear on the Perimeter edge to ‘find all the sand’; this makes us look bad in front of Doc.
--- He had it in his SHOE
--- counter-rule!! Actually this makes us look GReat in front of doc. my abs intimidate him.
--- There’s no such thing as a ‘counter rule’ and your abs don’t intimidate anyone
--- mumbo agrees with me!!
--- I. Um. I just think Scar’s abs could be good PR. I’d be impressed if I were Doc.
Rule 2: All Buttercups must remember at all times that Doc is the enemy and we are here to TAKE HIM DOWN.
Rule 3: Goateater is not allowed to eat Mumbo’s pillow.
Rule 3a: we should leave GOateater alone because she’s doing her Best
--- Scar, she’s doing her best to eat my pillow!
--- this is proving resorcefullness and initive like a good Buttercup!
Rule 4: Mumbo’s cooking tastes like a camping mat and he’s not allowed on the cooking rota
Rule 5: grian cant cook us eggs for more than 2 meals in one day
Rule 6: I have to say I agree with Rule 5.
--- Mumbo needs to LEARN HOW RULES WORK
--- and also stop being RUDE about my COOKING
Rule 7: Goateater is not allowed in Mumbo’s bed under any circumstances.
--- mumbo is biased against Goateater!!
--- Then make her sleep in your bed, Scar!
Rule 8: Grian is allowed to push Scar into the Perimeter if he does the sand thing one more time
Rule 9: Grian is allowed to push Scar into the Perimeter if he refuses to put a shirt back on and is being really obnoxious about it
Rule 10: Grian is allowed to push Scar into the Perimeter if he keeps snoring at night
--- Mate, we’re getting some expansion of powers here that I’m not entirely comfortable with.
--- yknow its not tJHAT Bad
--- Okay, so, Scar, listen, just because you’ve never minded doesn’t mean Grian should be able to do what he likes. This is setting a precedent. We need to talk about this.
Rule 11: Grian is allowed to push anyone into the Perimeter for any reason necessary
--- I told you! I TOLD you!
--- Cmon Mumbo a man’s gotta have hobbies
--- Not threats-of-immediate-violence-to-his-two-closest-friends hobbies!
--- WAnt some sand?
--- I CAN LITERALLY SEE WHAT YOU TWO WRITE HERE. SCAR I AM COMING FOR YOU.
--- Good LUck :)
Rule 12: Grian is not allowed to keep stealing Mumbo’s HotGuy poster for his own tent then denying it.
Rule 12a: Grian is encouraged to get his own poster or pay Mumbo 16 diamonds.
Rule 13: Buttercups are reminded to focus their efforts on DOC and how everything is DOC’S FAULT, not SPYING ON THEIR FRIENDS about POSTERS.
Rule 14: Goateater is not allowed in Mumbo’s entire tent.
Rule 15: Goateater is allowed whrever she likes, including in MUmbos tent.
Rule 16: Scar is not allowed to write rules that contradict previous rules.
Rule 17: Mumbo is not allowed to do that either!!
Rule 17a: If Mumbo and Scar don’t stop fighting over the rules board and GET US SOME DRINKING WATER LIKE THEY’RE SUPPOSED TO then Grian gets to throw them both in the Perimeter
--- I thought everything was Doc’s fault.
--- Sometimes it’s your fault, Mumbo!
Rule 18: Look, can we have some sort of punishment here that isn’t ‘Grian pushes people in the perimeter?’ Only he’s not pushing himself in the perimeter, and last night he blew up a firework experiment in the campfire and took half my moustache off.
Rule 18a: That was obviously Doc’s fault.
--- I don’t think it’s Doc’s fault if you did it yourself! In fact, you’re the reason we’re here in the first place. There’s sand in my sleeping bag and I’ve lost half my moustache and Goateater keeps eating my shoes!
--- also I gotta pointout G you never paid me for those fireworks
--- Listen, Buttercups, the rules are very clear about who’s to blame. It’s Doc’s fault.
--- That’s pretty rich coming from you, Grian!
--- also goateater is perfect and hasn’t done anything wrong
--- Shut up, Scar, this is Grian’s fault. I’m making a new rule.
Rule 19: I think we should blame Grian for everything
Rule 20: I secnd this rule
Rule 21: Oh, yeah? Well, I think we should blame SCAR for getting me BAD FIREWORKS
Rule 21a: those were top quality scarland fireworks, Mister!
Rule 22: It was Scar who technically broke the tunnel bore so he’s the reason we’re here
Rule 23: I mean, I guess—Scar, mate, you did do that.
Rule 24: I think we should blame Scar for everything
Rule 25: now wait A MINute
Rule 26: Yes, honestly, it’s mainly Scar’s fault.
Rule 27: Its not!
Rule 28: It’s either you or Grian. I think either way we can all agree I’m the innocent victim here.
Rule 29: What – okay, fine, new plan! I think we should blame MUMBO for everything!
Rule 30: yeah!
NEW RULE: MUMBO IS BANISHED FROM THE BUTTERCUP CAMP
NEW RULE: OH I AM, AM I? WELL THEN, GRIAN IS BANISHED FROM THE BUTTERCUP CAMP!
NEW RULE: OKAY! I GUESS THIS IS MY CAMP NOW! IM MOVING JELLIE INTO YOUR TENTS AND SERVS YOU BOTH RIGHT!
Rule 34: Guys?
Rule 35: …guys?
board suspended :(
Rule 36: fine I’m back
Rule 37: strewing my bed with cherry blossom wasn’t actually necessary
Rule 38: Aw, Scar, you shouldn’t have.
--- i missed you guys
--- I missed you guys too!
--- It’s been TWENTY MINUTES
--- admit it G you missed us
--- Fine I did
--- But I think I have time for a second shot
--- GRIAN
--- joking <3
Rule 39: All previous rules are suspended.
Rule 1: It’s Doc’s fault.
Rule 2: Grian is still allowed to push people into the perimeter.
--- mumbo, wheres Goateater?
--- Special mission, mate, don’t worry about it.
WHY HAS SOMETHING **EATEN** ALL MY ***CROCS***!
YOU WILL PAY FOR THIS, BUTTERCUPS!!
– G.O.A.T.
p.s. Also kindly return my hotguy poster, Grian, I know that this was you

Doodle Dump!
Hello Kandavers Tumblr Nation! If you can't already tell, I've been absolutely BRAINROTTING over www-related content these past few days HEHE
I've been drawing a lot of his interactions with my Beloved Mutuals' OCs and I thought I'd post it here as a mass post because they're Too Silly and Goofy (and Doodly) AND I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO RAMBLE ABOUT IT PLEASE AND THANK YOU
(Warning! Some of them are mmmildlyyyy suggestive hehe) (As a Treat!)
Characters heads up: Will Wayward by Me! Starii by @dianacoreexe Valentine Hart by @chronnellian Mimix by @sleepyzuku Mori Moonlet by @kawaiialeisha
Here's Mimix, Will and Mori jamming together in their MWM Band (Outfits subject to change HAHA we never really got that far with the Designs save for Mimix (common sleepyzuku slay)):
Tumblr media
(Adding a Keep Reading button so that the post won't be too Long!!)
And the slicked back hair WWW I drew just for the occasion:
Tumblr media
I KNOW I HAVENT OFFICIALLY POSTED A PROPER WWW X MIMIX SHIP POST BUT I've mentioned before WWW and Mimix are in a relationship, and we have this running joke that Mori would occasionally be a third wheel in their relationship it's HILARIOUS !!!
(cw suggestive:)
Tumblr media
And shy Mimix got me so weak HAHA:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's so cute that Mimix can't handle intimacy that well, so Will always helps him take the initative aaa,,, DO YOU SEE WHAT I MEAN WHEN I SAY I'VE GOT BRAINWORMS
☆════ ⋆★⋆ ════☆
"Out of everyone in this entire universe" (The first panel is by Diana themselves for context LMAO)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
See, we both agreed that Will and Starii would be Adopted siblings! There's a little bit of lore to it, which is Starii is an Alien whose space ship crashed onto Earth when she was Smaller, and Will, being the Space Nerd (tm) he is, he offered to let her Stay with him while he fixed her ship! (And for context, Winnie is Will's biological sister that I have not designed nor planned yet !)
☆════ ⋆★⋆ ════☆
This one is just so funny to me HAHAHA
(cw: suggestive)
Tumblr media
But despite the erm... Physical Admiration 💀 Will has for Valentine, I offer you SOFT and WHOLESOME doodles and they make me SO VERY WEAK I AM SO SOFT FOR THEM ARGHHHH
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And bonus kissy,,,,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When they say "I love you" while affectionately gazing at each other like that... ouuuu I think I will Pass Out /pos
☆════ ⋆★⋆ ════☆
Bonus cute details:
Will used to have just 1 earring pierced on his Left Ear (if I recall correctly 💀 hashtag bad OC creator) but he went to get the other one pierced with Mimix
After meeting Starii, she gave him one of her earrings, so his Right Ear would always have a star-shaped earring! (Don't worry about consistency i literally forget all the time too LOL)
He has one of those succubus-looking tattoos on his tummy 😳😳 Solely because I think it's cute and ZESTY and it has 0 things to do with his character but thats okay. <3
And honestly shout out to All These Artists for feeding my delusions and brainrots at 2-3am even, with their ideas and headcanons too, they got me Giggling and Kicking my Feet and Everything WAAA
I REALLY LOVE HOW I AM ABLE TO CREATE THESE COOL AND MUSHY OC INTERACTIONS WITH THEM <3333 Honestly I love my mutuals so much they're so Amazing hehe
That's the Doodle Dump for Now! Thank you for reading this far and listening to my Deranged Rambles about them !
And last but not least, go follow my Mooties if You havent already 🫵🫵💥‼️‼️ I love You!!! /p

After watching through Side Order... I have a Few Thoughts.
[Spoilers ahead]
My Review of the Side Order DLC - Its little more than Gameplay.
Tumblr media
Initial Opinion
- - - - - - - - - -
Overall; I like the gameplay mechanics initially, but the story absolutely feels lacking to me, imo. It feels like they were really banking on Side Order being Hard but... multiple of my friends finished it on their 2nd or 3rd run through the Spire.
That in itself isnt a problem! But... everyone felt sort of unsatisfied? There were no developments in the story, as we, Agent 8, were just assigned the task to Get to The Top of the Spire -> The Player Does That -> You beat a Boss -> Credits Roll (?)
On my watchthrough I literally said Please Say Sike 😭 because, dont take this poorly, but they were advertising Side Order as;
• Difficult (stated Multiple Times in basically every Trailer)
• Story Driven (You Uncover things as You Climb)
• Character and Lore Intensive (as shown by the trailers with all the concept art as well as promo art)
I dont feel like it was wrong to expect more based on how it was advertised.
But... if you complete the DLC in 1-2 runs, which is Very Much Possible, no buildup happens at all. The story was banking on the player struggling, and putting all the content behind repeat runs, which falls through and Doesnt really work/feel satisfying if the main goal is achieved in such a short time. I Feel like anyone who regularly plays Salmon Run will likely have a similar experience. And I feel kind of cheated? Because what we got was something that was Tell Not Show rather than the Show, Not Tell formula. And in my opinion, it really doesn't work as well at all. It puts all the major lore that the game has set up behind repetetive climbs (which never change btw, despite each climb being generated differently, its the same after a while) and you get about 1 Sentence of Exposition, with a Modlog from Marina if you are Lucky.
Side Order was (to me), after watching it all;
• Not Difficult, But Repetetive Gameplay (This easily runs people down, which would be fine if the tower had more than 1 setup or phase)
• Inital Story Setup with no complexities or stages. You climb the first Tower, Save Marina, Climb the Second Tower, Beat Order, and the credits Roll. In its most complex, you could fit what Side Order's Story is in 2-3 Sentences. Rather than Lore being revealed During the story, it feels Pushed to the Side as all of it is either in Text the player may never see (different climbs) or care to read (Marina's Mod Log)
• Use of Character Drops with no explaination / mention (The Agent 4 Boss, Anyone?) (This felt very Bait-y, with No Payoff)
Rating
- - - - -
If I had to give Side Order a Rating
4/10. At Best.
I am a bit disappointed with this as I feel like I was promised more, Storywise, and honestly a bit gameplay wise. I think it fails where other DLC has succeeded Due to being Built in such a way where anything engaging is stuck behind barely changing gameplay. It is not built in a way where the experience cant fail to show you whats important to the characters and the worldbuilding. It relies too much on telling you whats happening rather than the world showing you. Its too Simple, and It Doesnt Work, personally, in a series that contains Octo Expansion.
Which is Sad to me!! It had so much wasted potential and I really hope this isn't the last we're going to see of the concept, we get to see ideas actually built into the story, and... maybe find Agent 4.
Conclusion
- - - - - - - -
Tldr; Side Order had a good concept, but failed in execution for being simple and gameplay dependent, which was ultimately disappointing due to it being advertised as something more for all involved.
It was an alright attempt. The experience will just be known to me as... well. Baby's First Rouge-like. Nothing worldbreaking.
(PS, this isnt meant to be mean spirited or overly critical, I just love the Splatoon Series so I give it Tough Love. This is just my personal view on the DLC)
Thank you for Reading! Feel free to share or add any thoughts!

Once again new ons chapter inital thoughts wow
Chapter 132 spoilers ahead!!
- ok so artstyle aside, this is definetly an upgrade from last chapter
- however still no Crowley so nvm, immediately horrible chapter, 0/10 (/s)
- alright, so we got a fair amount of vampire action (hallelujah) but the part in the middle with Mikayuu once again going over their plan didn't have to be that long. (I seriously wouldn't mind it that much if we got updates faster but with a monthly manga it's REALLY frustrating to have precious panel space wasted on info we arleady know)
- Ky Luc is still a feral manchild when he fights, never change pookie <3
- unfortunately this chapter reminded me of Yuu's bullshit powerups and how they infuriate me, like my man just bc you absorbed your boyfriend doesn't mean you should be able to overwhelm a 5th progenitor who is 1. not holding back and 2. stated to be stronger than an average 5th progenitor
- on that last point, we got another mention of Ky Luc being stronger than a "mere" 5th, i am smelling another Crowley situation pls tell me I'm not the only one
- "The first is much scarier than I am. He'll just use you." - Roger Stanford, serial child-experimenter and general human rights violator
- otherwise not much else to add, though I hope Yuu Letting The Beast OutTM will attract Guren and co's attention. Also maybe show Narumi again. Perhaps even Lacus, Rene, Chess and Horn. Pwetty pwease Kagami :3c (ignore how much I shit on your work thx)
Alright now time for my (least) favourite segment: losing my mind over the art in a bad way (utc)
Tumblr media
WHO ARE YOU GET AWAY FROM ME FOUL BEAST NAMED KIRSTEN (this isn't even his worst panel in this chapter. I'm being nice)
Tumblr media
Live Roger reaction / my reaction to that information
Tumblr media
Bro realised he left his toaster on (his sammiches will now burn)
Ok enough dunking, time for some mild positivity
Tumblr media
I'll admit this is kinda cute. Myeh :P
Tumblr media
She looks kinda pretty here. And baby Yuu is also cute.
Tumblr media
He is so cute here. The only ones somewhat winning with the new artstyle are women and kids. Hooray for women-likers and.... people who like the child characters (not in a weird way)
Tumblr media
Last but not least, Ulrich looks a little better. Still not good enough to be Urd but we're getting there. Hopefully. (I am coping. Hard.)

The Plotlines of 52: A biased ranking
Having finished 52, I am here to rank the plotlines from worst to best. 52 was a very strong series, so even the plotlines at the bottom aren't so much bad as they were ones I was less invested in. So, without further ado, let's start at the bottom with:
6. Dr Magnus/The Island of Mad Scientists.
The first time I put together the list of plotlines, I forgot about this one which should tell you all you need to know. Admittedly, I hadn't finished reading 52 at that point and this plotline does grow more relavent towards the end, but I simply did not care about any of the mad scientist characters. Or the metal men. Nor was I particularly invested in the mystery of where all the missing scientists had gone. I will say though, it was less that I disliked this and more that I thought it was boring.
5. The Animal Man, Starfire, Adam Strange, and Lobo Space Odyssey
This plotline had a lot of wacky and fun moments (Lobo has found space!dolphin!jesus, Mogo the green lantern who is a planet). It was perfectly good storyline that is mainly this low in the ratings because a) I was more invested in all the other plotlines, and b) I am just less interested in the new gods/space portion of dc.
4. Ralph Dibney
Following up from Identity Crisis we have Ralph Dibney initally getting tied up with the Cult of Conner and then going on a quest to try and bring Sue back from the dead. I thought the Cult of Conner was fun in the beginning and this plot also had a strong denouncement, but I was less invested in the middle portion where he goes and visits various magic entities.
3. Tied for third we have both the Black Adam Family and the Question + Renee (+ Batwoman) plotlines!
The thing about the Question + Renee (+ Batwoman) plotline was that it was consistently strong throughout. I went expecting that to the plotline that I was most interested in and was surprised to find that I was actually really interested in a lot of other things going on too! The Black Adam Family plotline was a little more up and down in my enjoyment. I was really invested in Black Adam trying to make a new start! I knew he wouldn't be able to make it last! I'm interested in seeing where he shows up later in comics! Anyway, if I was not a fan of Amanda Waller, I might hate her a little for what she did.
The main points taken off for the plotline (and the reason I'm not putting it directly above the question one) is that DC pulls one of their 'let's commit an act of mass destruction' moves and kills off all of Bialya, which just feels excessive. Have you considered that perhaps you don't need to have a genocide/nuke an entire city/country to make a point, dc?
2. Booster Gold/Supernova
I just think Booster Gold's fun. It was fun watching him destroy his reputation and fail as his knowledge of the future failed him. The Supernova plotline was also very fun! (Clark Kent jumping out a window to get caught by him to snag an interview my beloved). I liked how the mystery in these two plotlines built up and merged together. It had a satisfying payoff and conclusion as well. Very comics-y.
1. Natasha & John Henry Irons/ Luthor's Everyman project
Best plotline, hands down. The messy-ness of Natasha and John's relationship. The way that he messes up and tries and fails to get it right. Luthor giving people powers and the building realization of his plans unfolding! "Rain of the Supermen"! I just enjoyed it all.

BG3 Kinktober Recap
Phew. Kinktober 2023 for Baldur's Gate 3 is nearly over and I wanted to share some stats!
75 prompts were submitted
31 participants joined
61 works were created
over 221,000 words were written
Tumblr media
This was the first time I ever ran any kind of challenge and I'm absolutely blown away by what we created here. Thank you so much to everyone who participated, whether by prompts or fills (or both), I appreciate you all so much.
Anyone seeing this for the first time: Please go check out the amazing works that were created this month!!!
Note: the public stats on the Collection are different from what I can see on the backend (at least for the number of people who signed up, but here I'm not sure if this is prompt givers vs. writers).
I'm adding some reflections on the Challenge under the cut and am inviting anyone who participated to share theirs as well! Please tag/reblog if you do, would love to see your thoughts.
First, the set up: Setting up this promptmeme challenge and collection on AO3 wasn't great. I don't think it was very intuitive, so it took me a good 2 hours to figure it out, with some tweaking here and there afterwards. But don't be discouraged! Once you know what to do it's alright. Feel free to message me with questions if anyone wants to run a similar challenge on AO3.
Some notes: I could have included an email but that would have been public and I wasn't really sure if I wanted that. I could have added mods to this challenge and probably should have, because my idea to check every submittal crumbled on Day 2 lol.
Overall people kept submitting prompts after prompts, especially after brainstorming sessions on discord servers, which I guess is the nature of this. I initally added several free forms and prompts to kick it off, but quickly there were more prompts than people available to claim, which is the nature of such challenges I guess. Many things were also submitted several times because people wouldn't check past prompts. I could have moderated this better but didn't have enough time, tbh.
Most fills were created in the first half of the month. There are still 28 unfilled claims that I don't expect to get filled, which is okay (I also had to drop a few claims because I overestimated my ability to fill them). Generally, for AO3, this is not ideal: since it's AO3 personally I felt more obligated to write fics, rather than drabbles, and of course that takes so much more time than drabbling short ficlets. Wish I would have specified this differently in the beginning.
Some personal thoughts from my poor writer brain:
I am such an insecure weak ass person, lol. I felt obligated to a fault to fill everything I claimed, dropped several prompts far too late, and completely soured my joy in writing smut in the process. I think I wrote too many fills in too short a time frame. I didn't enjoy the challenge as much as I could have as a result. This isn't on anyone in particular other than me, but I thought I would share in case anyone else struggled. Instead of claiming things I knew I could write well I constantly took prompts that were challenging (too challenging at times), including characters I rarely write or scenarios I wasn't particularly able to craft well (I know people enjoyed my fics but I guess I could have done better work with less pressure). I'm not sure why I did this. I think the prompts were just so great that the idea of filling sounded easier to me than actually doing the work LOL. I don't regret it, to be clear. I simply could have been better at going at this.
Promoting this was also something I should have done more, but my blog isn't really big (and that's fine) and to this day I keep forgetting adding my tumblr/discord underneath the AO3 fics I publish.
I really should not have worked on two series while doing Kinktober. It was distracting, in all directions. I still hope I did the fills, Keeping Score and Til Death justice. I love all my fic children equally.
So, what's next?
I know there's a huge demand for promptmeme challenges and people really want to send in prompts and places to fill. At the same time consistently checking prompts (and fills) to see if something is included that doesn't align with my values feels very intimidating, at least for me alone (I've been in fandoms for almost two decades, I know that at some point, something horrible will pop up in prompts or fills. I've seen it before, and it would anger me to no end if I would miss, say, a transphobic prompt or fill in my collection).
If anyone has ideas/suggestions/thoughts on that, please let me know.
As always, my DMs and Asks are open to chat!
Thank you again to everyone who participated. You're rockstars.
– Em

I loved Coexist! The whole story felt very complete by the end and I understand there's no plans for an immediate sequel or anything. But I'm a curious bitch and I love the world you created so I have to ask: did you ever have specific ideas for how some of the major events of season 4 or 5 (or beyond) would go down in that universe? I'm curious about how Faith and Co would deal with The Initiative with no Spike, how the Key/Glory/Joyce stuff would go down with Buffy at Northwestern, or just literally anything you might have thought about for the future of these characters. I'll take literally anything you feel like sharing.
Thanks very much! I'm glad you liked it.
Yeah, as you say, no immediate sequel plans (the big thing I want to make progress on next is my extensive Season 7 rewrite; after that though, maybe ...).
I have thought a bit about what might happen to the characters after the events of the story, though I'm not sure I have any ideas I'm 100% committed to. I have a few fairly vague plans for fics that would take place during S4 -- not necessarily following the plot of S4 as closely as Coexist followed the plot of S3, as I think the world is probably too different now for a lot of that season to happen and in any case I'm not really emotionally invested in Season 4 the same way I am Season 3 -- but certainly happening in a setting where The Initative still exist.
Spoilers for my fanfiction Coexist below the cut I guess?
The most developed idea I have is for a Willow centric fic covering her first year in Oxford: alternating between Willow POV chapters as she explores the university and runs into some familiar faces from canon and shorter chapters made up of emails or IRC messages she gets from her friends back in the US (both commenting directly on the plot and giving Willow advice/encouragement and letting us know a bit about what's happening back in Sunnydale). We know that the Watcher's Council have some sort of link to Oxford (it's where Giles went to train to be a Watcher; "where they make Gileses", as Buffy says later) and, well, I'm aware I never managed to find a role for Gwendolyn Post in Coexist and I think she'd work pretty well as a shady evil mentor for a young practicing witch.
That one has, I think, a non-zero chance of actually happening at some point (a real enough chance that I'm trying to be slightly vague about it, anyway).
As I think you know I am not the biggest fan of the Initiative storyline (and I think it has fewer narrative hooks in a world where none of the main characters are students at Sunndayle U and so none of them have met Maggie Walsh or Riley Finn).
But of course, no Spike doesn't mean the Initative aren't still putting chips in vampires' heads and we know that in this universe, with Buffy away at Northwestern, the events of The Freshman won't happen, so … there's still room in the story for a vampire whose name starts with an 'S' to get a chip in her head and then break out of confinement and reluctantly join forces with the Slayer, right? I'm not really sure why Sunday wouldn't just get staked as soon as she starts being annoying or obviously still evil, but then I'm never sure why that doesn't happen in Season 4 either, so.,,
But really, I want Buffy to have at least a year of things being relatively normal? In a way that would never have worked on the show, I want Buffy to get to occasionally show up and cameo in other people's stories while having a mostly uncomplicated time in college the rest of the year (I imagine she can still patrol without having to find a new Hellmouth; the show is a bit inconsistent about this but I figure there must be some vampires in the Chicago metropolitan area).
Other characters:
I tend to assume that Cordelia will still end up involved in fighting demons when she gets to LA (with Harmony, this time, but still originally looking to put the supernatural behind her). No Angel Investigations, obviously, but she can still meet Doyle and Gunn and Dennis the Ghost, right? I sort of like the idea of Lily/Anne Steele being a bit more actively involved in protecting people from supernatural threats in this world too: she never had the "can I be Anne?" moment here, but I'd like to imagine that her encounter with Faith still had a big impact on her. (I assume she picks a different minor Jane Austen character to name herself after if not Anne Steele.)
Oz and Willow will have to break up eventually because I still want Willow to realize she's into women (just not into Amy). But because I don't have a weird behind-the-scenes feud with Seth Green to inspire me to write his character out entirely, I'd like that to happen in a way where Oz doesn't leave Sunnydale, and gets to develop into a bit more of a person in his own right. (Maybe he gets captured by the Initative sooner, and that's something that can draw Faith and the others into getting involved with that plot?)
I have absolutely no idea how Tara ends up joining the gang in this setting, but I know she will somehow. I think she would fit pretty well into the group dynamics here, even without Willow around. No Buffy or Willow to stick up for her when her family show up on her birthday, but Faith and Jenny aren't exactly going to be thrilled by that either.
Oh, also Marcie is involved in whatever is going on with the Initiative in some capacity. I'm not exactly committed to how, but my current leading theory is that Professor Walsh's superiors send Marcie to (covertly/invisibly) keep an eye on their project, she sees how out of control things are going, and ends up taking Riley's place as the person the gang (well, Xander) knows on the inside who can warn them about Adam. (Possibly without them realizing exactly what Marcie's own agenda is.)
Season 5 … well, I know Dawn will exist and that Joyce will get sick (I think that's pretty close to confirmed in Coexist itself if you assume that Faith's dream about Dawn was prophetic). What that means for Buffy, and whether I can bring myself to have Joyce be more than just sick, I don't really know. Maybe rather than Buffy moving back home, Joyce will move to Illinois to be closer to her daughter and sister? She probably wouldn't do it while Dawn existed, not if Dawn had to move school again, but perhaps she would pre-Dawn and then the memory of Dawn has to get retconned in? Especially if she doesn't get the art gallery back up and running?
Maybe Faith heads up that way too after graduating high school? (I don't think even this Faith is likely to want to go to college, but Diana might have left her enough money she can try to get a place to live in Chicago while she looks for a Slayer-compatible job?) I don't think the Hellmouth itself is really that important for the Glory plot. (The Hellmouth is pretty quiet in Season 5 actually, I think.) Maybe things are stable enough for Jenny and Tara and Amy keep an eye on things and call the Slayers if there's trouble?
As I said in a post a while ago, I kind of like the idea of a Season 5 AU where the Key becomes Faith's sister, rather than Buffy's, but I don't think that's how things go in this setting. I think the twist I'd be more likely to go for here is having Faith be the first person to learn that Dawn isn't "real", and have to grapple with whether or not she tells Buffy that (especially because, in this setting, I think Dawn would still really look up to Faith, and I don't know how Faith would feel about that. How does a Faith who's friends with Anya feel about Dawn 'really' being, in some sense, hundreds of years old?).
The other idea I've had about Dawn here is just to play the game of: how exactly does Coexist play out in a setting with Dawn in it? When did she found out Buffy was a Slayer, did she ever meet Kendra? What happens with the First, or with Wesley, or Allan Finch? How does she feel about Buffy and Willow moving away? How does she feel about Anya or Amy? How does she feel about having to move again, if that's what Joyce ends up deciding to do? That feels like something I'd want to nail down a bit before I started any sort of Coexist sequel with Dawn in it.
Really no plans for beyond Season 5 at all -- or, rather, I have lots of plans and rough ideas for post-Season 5 fics, but none that I think really work so well in the Coexist universe. (I guess I hinted at things like the Beast blocking out the sun and Jasmine showing up somehow and LA being sent to Hell a bit in that story with some of the Mayor's dialogue, but I'm not exactly a fan of Angel Season 4 so I don't know whether I'd ever want to explore that any further. Certainly not the way it happens on Angel.)
As I said, I'm slowly working on plotting out a S7 fic, but that's in a setting much closer to canon and I don't know if I want to make plans for two similar fics at once. It feels right to me that Drusilla will be back to cause problems again at some point in the Coexist world (she's relegated to a dream sequence in Coexist itself, but in my very early plans she'd have turned up in Sunnydale in person and I think she still might later -- or maybe she'll be causing problems for Cordelia in LA? Trying to resurrect Spike the way Wolfram & Hart resurrect Darla in canon, maybe?), but equally I want Drusilla to be the Big Bad in my non-Coexist S7 fic, so I think I'd want to get that nailed down before I started thinking about any other story with Drusilla in and confusing myself.
But as I said on Ao3 a couple of days ago, it's important to me that Coexst feels like it ends in a good place for the characters and I think it does now; one thing I'm a bit wary of is starting a new ambitiously long fic in the same setting, introducing problems for them and shaking up that status quo and then not being able to complete it. I'd rather not do that, so I think any sequels -- if and when I ever write them -- will probably tend to be on the shorter side. At least unless I get a really good idea for S5, or learn the self-discipline needed to write a whole story before I start posting chapters.

Unconquista: A Tale of Sephardic Conquest
A little while ago, I thought of firing up Crusader Kings 3 for another playthrough. It's been a little while since I've played. If you don't know, Crusader Kings 3 (CK3) is a grand strategy game about being a medieval lord and getting into Game of Thrones style escapades.
I have a fun tradition where I only play as Jewish rulers of one variety or another, and for this playthrough I decided I wanted to touch upon my Sephardi heritage and start in Iberia (Modern day Spain/Portugal.) The current goal is to see if I can hold on to power long enough to take the entire Iberian Peninsula under my control, and if I get there then maybe we'll go sack Rome for the Menorah and go re-establish the Kingdom of Israel. Here is my starting screen:
Tumblr media
I've created a custom ruler and renamed the county I start with. My little head canon is that the Jewish population of this county got sick of pogroms and the war between the Christians and Muslims and have decided to seize control via a peasant's uprising. My ruler, Count Elazar is a pretty straightforward guy. He has decent stats in all aspects of ruling except for Intrigue, so I hope he doesn't get poisoned. I've taken the Generous and Just traits mostly to counteract the negatives of taking a martial focus for him, since I'm probably going to need to do a lot of fighting in the short term. However, I've also made him a Wise Man, a Theologian and a Gardener for the bonuses that'll give me to managing stress as well as helping to reap the benefits from religion.
Tumblr media
Now this is fantastic, my wife (who was randomly generated) is a better strategist than I am! We love this representation of strong Jewish women. Anyway, I'm gonna get my inital affairs in order and then hit play. I'll post updates when major developments or funny shit occurs. (And I swear to Fucking G_d, if anyone tries to make this silly little historical fantasy into some political hill to die on I will block your ass so fast and send a dybbuk your way.)

I am very silly about the Eleutheromania and Lacuna AUs, I don't really have any specific questions but feel free to rant about either of those AUs :3
Eleutheromania is my so very beloved AU.
And I could say so much but. I have this ramble about Eleuthero!Whole, aka Clio. And loosely also Calliope, Eleuthero!Soul.
-- So thats under the cut!
So, I do often think abt trying to add more distinction between Clio in co-existence and Clio in fully formed Whole. Which are both things as of yet to be seen in the fanfic writing. But it will be seen, and thusly needs to be considered.
I know Clio in co-existence was very very apathetic.
He, universally, maintains that he is a loathsome person and pretends to accept this with a boastful ego but. He does absolutely hate himself.
So, I think that co-existence Clio is the more raw or realistic one.
When the self-aware loathing of Soul, the overwhelming seeping and creeping of emotion of Heart, and the harsh brutalist truth or moral/societal pressures of logic are all stripped away you ARE just indeed left with this thing writhing in misery because it cannot even really stand the idea of being where it is, being itself.
So, co-existing Clio accepts everything /he/ essentially does to himself because its what he believes he deserves. And on the vice-versa end, a fully formed Clio perpetuates the cycle because he also still believes its what /he/ deserves just.. backwards.
Where Callie has never inherently believed he deserved the treatment Whole gave him, Clio has only ever thought it was just that at least some part of himself be tyrannical over the other. Even in switching up because he was fully formed once more.
The distinction there is that he HAS all that loathing and self vitriol in him again alongside the misery of it.
On both ends he still puts up this face, and he still accepts the deserving nature of it all, but flips it into.. sort of.
"If I deserve it, and I am me, and they are me, they deserve it too."
A nonsensical and delusional mentality that at the end of the day, no matter where he is, he deserves to be, in some form, whether deeply subconsciously or right there at the surface level of basic thought, miserable.
Which likely stems from just. Who Clio is or became as a person. I do not think he has that many friends, and the ones he did have, obviously didn't notice he changed when Soul took over because by the time Calliope did so, he was already just *that* similar to Whole if only different in that he did not accept their sameness and delusionally denied the fact that he had become "himself" in a way by perpetuating the narrative that Mind and Heart are not people and that Whole is deserving of all the horrible things. Though he saw it as just because Whole did it first, regardless, they were both harming themselves.
I do think Clio likely did make songs still, and he threw himself into them for a time but idk if he ever actually did post them.
The inital concept was that, he did and such but.. ah. The evolution of the character and the disconnection I feel between him, or all of them as characters from source material or CJ as the artist, ahh blah blah. He never posts music he writes, or continues it.
He does enjoy creating, he just struggles to find a footing in believing anything he does is worthwhile- or even furthermore, that if he deserves to be miserable and self-sabotages so much... why would he ever properly pursue something that could make him happy when he is undeserving of that.
Which also side-ish note is yeah! Eleuthero aside from base root concept to me is pretty disjointed from the canon of CCCC. The AU is highly self indulgent and more an exploration of someone who struggles to even attach personhood to themself in a solid way, etc etc.

So warning time, I am about to go on a rant. I am so sick of anti-Dany incels saying Daenerys will go mad and burn KL and Jon will kill her. There will be 3 parts to this rant, 1 discussing Targ madness, 2 defending Dany which we have all heard before with the arguments they use, then lastly comparing her to other lauded characters who are never questioned or vilified like her. If you don't want to hear a pro-Dany rant, then stop now.
So let's start with, are Targs more likely to go mad? I don't believe so, In fact very few Targs have ever been mad. Maegar for example was ruthless and cruel, much like Tywin, but he wasn't truly mad. The faith of the seven was about to kill and murder (and quite possibly succeeded in doing so with a few) the rest of their line. Yes, he went overboard and his cruelty was unmatched, he was evil, but mad? No.
King Baelor was a religious zealot, does that make him mad? We see what religious extremism can do and it's prevalent even today in Christianity with the alt-right white nationalist extremist and in Muslim extremists like Isis. I will say, we could arguably say this is a form of madness, though many sane people can take this route.
Prince Rhaegal was considered mad for dancing naked in the Red Keep. Um, is this really a sign of madness? Have we not all danced naked when home alone? Have we not all gotten drunk and done something stupid. I definitely wouldn't define that as mad and more so label it as anti-Targ propaganda from the Seven and Maesters.
Aerion was also pretty mad since he thought he could drink wildfire and survive. I also have to wonder if with what we know now if he wasn't driven mad by dragon dreams and the knowledge of the others returning. But we will go with yes cause that is not a sane thought and action.
Aerys was cruel and evil, and paranoid, and by the definition, absolutely mad. Though after duskendale, can we really blame him for being 'paranoid'. People were truly out to get him, they already had, and rebellion was brewing long before he burned and murdered people. Though arguably I would consider him mad.
Viserys? Yeah, I also hesitate to label him mad. He was cruel and weak and a narcissist obsessed with returning home and gaining his birthright, but he wasn't insane. Nor more than any other cruel and selfish character in ASOAIF. But even if we include Viserys, that makes 4 mad Targaryen's out of hundreds over 3 centuries. You can't tell me in 300 years no other families had 4 members who were mad. They just didn't have the power and popularity for it to be well known or for it to matter much to anyone else. Its a bit ridiculous that people think Targs will go mad no matter what when only 4 previous ones have.
SO, Part 2, Why people think Dany is foreshadowed as going mad. She watched Viserys die, didn't try to stop it or care. Oh, you mean the brother who abused her for years, would have raped her had Illyrio not planned for it and had guards posted to maintain her virginity for her wedding, then sold her into slavery for an army? Yes, Dany was a slave, viewed only as property, to produce sons for a warlord. Then, he continued to beat her as she tried to acclimate to the life he forced upon her, tried to steal from her, even as she tried to help him acclimate as well. Viserys never had to come with the Dothraki, as Illyrio offered for him to stay with him in his manse until they were ready to go to Westeros. But he couldn't relinquish his control over Dany. What led to his ultimate death, and Dany's reaction, or inital lackthereof, he drew steel inside their city where no weapons can be drawn, breaking Dothraki law and already a death sentence. He could have been saved, but then he threatened to murder Dany and her unborn child, in front of Khal Drogo so also threatening him and his property. The Dothraki follow strength. If Dany had stood up against Drogo in favor of her brother, or shown any emotions at all, she would have lost favor with her people and Khal Drogo, she may have even been punished in some way for questioning his authority, and Viserys would have been killed anyway. She was smart enough to know this. What we do see is her regret later on, her guilt, and love for her brother. This in no way foreshadows cruelty or madness, as she had no choice but to stand by and we see her remorse throughout the books, even in ADWD.
Dany was a slaver who murdered her slave. Ugh, just, it's always white people who say this BS, I swear. Oh, you mean she murdered a woman she tried to save, who then tricked her into sacrificing her unborn child for Drogo's life, knowing full well what Drogo would be when he returned, then happily told her she would never carry another child, bragging about what she had done to her? Miri Maz Duri killed her child and cursed her womb and bragged about it. Was Dany naive in thinking she could save Miri and that she would be grateful? Absolutely. She didn't know she had already been raped many times, she was naive and ignorant. Is it a sign of madness or cruelty? Only if you consider every noble character who carries out an execution when someone commits murder. "But she told Dany not to go in the tent." Yes, knowing full well the sacrifice would cause Dany to go into pre-term labor and she would have to enter the tent. That was Miri's plan from the beginning. Oh, but Drogo didn't listen to Miri and it was Dany's fault for asking her to save Drogo. Yes, Dany was naive and she has to live with her part for being naive, but again, Miri knew what she was doing and knew it may not work and he would probably not listen to him. Miri isn't stupid, nor naive, and knows Drogo won't listen to a woman, especially a lamb woman.
Dany massacres the slave masters. REALLY??? So you think its a-ok for those slave masters to enslave, torture, mutilate, sell, buy, and murder men, women, AND LITTLE CHILDREN, including babies! They had slaves murder slave babies and PAID the other slave masters! They crucified 163 children alive and let them die a slow, torturous death. But, some of them were against crucifying children! Yes, but they still owned people, and even a well-treated slave is still viewed as disposable property and punished or killed when they disobey. And for those that said their family member was against the crucifying of the children, she gave the family full honor burial rights, paid them for their loss, and tried to make it right. Because Dany cares, and when she makes mistakes, she owns up to them and tries to make them right. Mad people do not do that.
In Qarth, and other times, she threatened to burn cities to the ground. Well, no, she didn't. The show made that change. Qarth welcomed her in immediately, happy to host her. The show made a lot of changes to Dany, especially from season 3 on. They made all her intelligent and successful strategies in Essos go to the men around her, like Ser Jorah and Daario. In the book, we see her make those decisions and weigh them all carefully. And she doesn't just lose her temper and want to massacre and burn entire cities. She does get angry, when her own people are being murdered by the Sons of the Harpies, and make mistakes. But again, she rectifies them as soon as she realizes she messed up and tries to do better.
She let the Shavepate torture children. No, she did not. They worked in a tavern, where whores worked. The father owned the tavern, and they tortured his adult children. Dany has shown over and over again she will not harm children. She takes children of the masters hostages, a common practice in ASOIAF (Jon Snow does this with the wildlings on the Wall), and even when those families continue to rebel against Dany, she refuses to harm those children, though many are telling her she must, including the Westerosi council she keeps. And when the torture yeilds no results, she ends it and feels guilt and remorse. Again, not something a mad person does.
Irri is her slave that she rapes. No, Irri is her handmaiden, that Dany doesn't ask to please her, but Irri starts it entirely. Dany immediately feels guilty, worrying that Irri may be conditioned to think she must do this and not actually want to and it makes Dany feel sick. Irri tries again and tells her it is a great honor to please her, basically begs her to. Dany does slip one time, and does let Irri do it, who is pleased to do so, but again, Dany feels guilt and remorse, and disgust, and tells her no and to leave her be, something a mad person wouldn't do. Let's not pretend almost any other character in asoiaf, save for Jon but only because HE is thinking of his bastardy, would ever decline.
Dany free slaves, and always tries her best to be fair. In her POVS we see her constantly weighing her actions, trying to be the best person, to help the most people, and be as kind and just as possible, which is actually her biggest weakness. We see her worry about ever becoming like her father or Viserys and how heavily her power and responsibility and the actions of her family weigh upon her, which is something mad people won't do, they don't weigh their actions, think of every possible way to be as kind and just and to make the world better. Mad people don't know they are mad, and she constantly worries the things she must do to lead will make her a monster. And as she rightly points out, power is terrible, and she must sometimes do terrible things, even be a monster. She locks her children, her dragons up, FFS, because they MAY have harmed an innocent child. Personally, I think it was BS by the Sons of Harpies to neuter her biggest weapons, but either way, she did that and felt horrible for the child and father, and did her best to rectify it, though she knew nothing could replace the child.
Here is GRRM's own quote about the heroes in ASOIAF; "My own heroes are the dreamers, those men and women who tried to make the world a better place than when they found it, whether in small ways or great ones. Some succeeded, some failed, most had mixed results...but it is the effort that's heroic, as I see it. Win or lose, I admire those who fight the good fight."
This quote fits Daenerys better than anyone else. She is actively trying to end slavery. We know her intentions are to make the world a better place than anything else. She has succeeded and she has failed, she has mixed results, but she is fighting the good fight.
Well, she went mad and burned KL in the show. GRRM has stated he gets further away from season 8. That after season 3ish, they consulted him less and less, and after season 4, they consulted him basically none. In Season 3, D&D asked GRRM how it all ends and they state; He told us 3 shocking moments, the Hodor scene and where the name comes from, the burning of Shireen, and King Bran. That's it. They were quick to point out, especially after the burning of Shireen, that George gave them that.
What do they say about Daenerys burning KL and Jon killing her? They take the credit themselves! They say, "we came up with that around season 3", ironically the season they stepped further and further from GRRM. Coincidence? LOL! I doubt it. That is never accredited to George and they always take credit for that. Just as they do for Sansa taking Jeyne Poole's place with Ramsay. If King Bran is the ending that came from GRRM what do you think is the different ending? Well, Arya killing the night king will not happen in the books. It's another thing D&D take credit for, and Dany will not be a Mad Queen that Jon will kill.
Even if Dany did go mad and burn an entire city to the ground, Jon would NOT be the one to kill her. How do we know this? Well, Jon is the one most like Ned Stark, the one who emulates his honor as best he can. Ned Stark despised Jaime Lannister for KILLING THE MAD KING. Why would Ned Stark dislike Jaime for killing the Mad King when Ned was actively rebelling against him after he murdered his brother and father and called for his own head? Because Jaime was pledged to serve King Aerys, and said vows to protect him! In the world of Westeros, the manner in which Jaime killed Aerys is dishonorable. Not only did he break his vows, he did not kill Aerys the 'proper way', which Ned Stark says 'we owe it to a man to look him in the eye and hear his last word as we give the sentence and swing the sword.' In other words, they must know they are being sentenced to die, and we must be able to look them into their eyes and hear their last words to swing the sword. Jon would never kiss Dany and break his vows.
Jon would also never become a kinslayer. Cursed is the kinslayer, a law of the GODS, as egregious as the Frey's breaking Guest Right. Ygritte tells Jon the tale of Bael the Bard, whose own son, a Stark, kills him not knowing he is his father. But Ygritte says, cursed is the Kinslayer, even the unknowing ones. Jon will know Dany is his kin, and would never be the one to kill her. Ygritte's entire storyline shows Jon likes warrior women and can't kill her because of what his father (Ned Stark) taught him.
Which brings me into part 3, comparing Dany's so called foreshadowed madness and cruelty to other characters. Jon Snow executes Janos Slint for simply not obeying a command. He doesn't stop his execution when Janos begs forgiveness and says he will obey. He murders him anyway. Jon blacks out in anger and almost beats his black brother to death all because he is thinking of Robb telling him he can't be Lord of Winterfell and is a bastard. He bullies and threatens Gilly into taking her baby and switching it with Mance's, putting her own child at risk to save the King Beyond the Wall's babe. Jon is more ruthless, more angry and volatile than Dany has ever been. Why is it that he is never once considered to go mad? Even before season 8? Even though we know he is also a Targaryen and will ride a dragon?
Arya murders the entire male Frey line in GOT Season 8, in the books she is a cold blood killer by ADWD and the WOW released chapter, but she isn't considered mad or cruel.
Sansa in GOT Season 8 kills Ramsay by letting his dogs rip him apart, why is this not dissected over and over again? Dany just doesn't stop her brothers execution and she is mad for it, but Sansa killing her abuser is YAS Queen, take your power back! She never once takes accountability for getting Ned killed (Its not her fault that he did, but her actions ultimately led to his death and she doesn't once think on her part in it). She isn't considered cruel for not caring Mycah was killed, takes no responsibility for LYING to protect getting power, becoming queen, and in return Lady is killed, instead she blames Arya. And as far as the books only, Sansa isn't considered mad or cruel for caring more about marrying Harry Hardyng and the plot to make him Lord and her Lady of the Vale, and gaining the North back in her power, giving her 2 kingdoms, knowing full well Sweetrobin has to die for that and in WOW released chapter, she knows Robin Arryn is being slowly poisoned and only hopes he has enough poison to not make a scene when she dances with Harry, even after she cared for and bonded with him and he tells her he dislikes Harry because he wants him dead to usurp him.
Stannis burns people alive, has helped raise his nephew as of late and his daughter loves Edric Storm (Gendry in the show), her cousin, yet he is planning to burn him alive and would have had Davos not saved him.
Robert kills for sport, enjoys killing, talks about it gleefully, like he gets off on it. And he didn't give one F that little innocent babes were brutally murdered for the throne he sat upon and refused to punish the Mountain and Amory Lorch for their brutality.
Tywin isn't considered mad, though he orchestrates the burning, pillaging, raping of the Riverlands and its people, the ending of the lines of Reynes and Tarbecks, the Red Wedding, nor the deaths of Elia and her children (And Elia's rape). He is just ruthless, and a great strategist.
Joffrey is rarely ever considered mad, though he kills and tortures for sport and fun. Though some consider him so, and of course blame the incest though Myrcella and Tommen aren't like that.
Cersei is the only other one considered mad. Truly, she is a bit mad, though a lot of it is her circumstances, her upbringing, her arrogance and cruelty, and little to do of anything else.
OH but Targs and incest make them mad. Then every character in GOT would be a little mad, cause have yall paid attention to their family trees? They are all incestous with Starks marrying Starks and Lannisters marrying Lannisters.
There is a reason that the only characters regularly considered mad are the only 2 Queens in the story. Its pretty obvious why, and its obvious why D&D got Dany's story so wrong. Like they thought it was subverting expectations that when women gain power they become hysterical mad women like that isn't the oldest trope in our patriarchal misogynistic world.
There is a reason HOD opened with 172 years before Daenerys Targaryen is BORN (IN THE BOOKS) and doesn't go by the show timeline. Otherwise, it would say 170 years before Daenerys Targaryen is born, as she was older and born earlier in the show. And there is a reason why they didn't go by the year of her DEATH. Because GRRM's ending is different! She is no meant to go mad, though she may end up becoming darker! She was always meant to be a hero! The story has always been about Jon and Dany coming together to defeat the Others; the song of Ice and Fire, and the farther we get from GOT, the more GRRM divulges that makes it more obvious to anyone paying attention and not wrapped up in their biased hate would easily see.
If you made it this far. By the Old Gods and the New you are a saint and a true Dany fan!

I didn't think much about Fuuta and Mappi when I was speedrunning trial 1. They became my favorites after they got beat up.
Am I wrong for thinking Fuuta looks better in his trial 2 design? I like the more rugged look. Never mind that the poor guy is in constant pain.
Mappi looks just plain sad, though. :(
(Saving the rest of my thoughts for the post about why the guilties are my favorites for being guilty)
Yes!!! Haha, unfortunately I was a Fuuta fan in my t1 speedrun because I was coming down from a redheaded-knight high and Bring it On gave me hope he would be cool (alas....) I wasn't initally a Mahiru fan because TIHTBILWY gave me influencer vibes but once I sat down and looked through all her material I was like "ah shit she's just like me fr and I love her with all my heart huh." But the guilty verdict brought out So Much interesting character development, it's so cool what T2 did!
And okay but it really does suit him?? His vd breaks my heart hearing how much pain he's in, but my guilty little opinion is that he looks really good like that >:3 (There's also the tragic irony that I love -- the beat-up appearance makes him look like the persona he's been putting up. He finally looks the part of the tough guy who will get into a fight for justice.... except... he's not, and he didn't....)
And I love a disheveled character as much as the next guy but they Did Not need to do Mappi that dirty 😭😭😭

Thoughts While Watching Gilmore Girls, Season 2, Episode 8, Part 1 ("The Inns and Outs of Inns")
I'm skipping past the second half of the previous episode (I really couldn't think of anything interesting to say about it. It was that whole thing where Rory and Paris get initated into The Puffs, and the Mother/Daughter Fashion Show). You can read my previous reviews here.
Tumblr media
This lady held out her cup for a refill. Jess looks down at the mug and walks right past her. I found his terrible customer service inexplicably delightful. I'd say she was gonna stiff him out of a tip for that move, but no one in Stars Hollow tips anyway.
Tumblr media
Jess: It's 7:45 am, do you want me to go to school or openly defy child labor laws? Idk, I think you should have a word with the Walmart corporation first, the place hired a 17 year old to drive a forklift during school hours. Luke: Stay out of trouble. Jess: Guess that means calling off the chickie run down at the salt flats. What in the everliving hell does that even mean? What teenager talks like that in 2001, the Year of our Lord? Damn you, AmyShermanPalladino. *sighs deeply*. *Opens Google* "A chickie run is a high-speed drag race toward the edge of a steep bluff above the ocean using stolen cars." It's apparently a reference to the movie Rebel Without A Cause with James Dean. Well, I learned some pointless new information today. Thank you, Mr Mariano. You may not serve customers their coffee but you do serve up hot steaming cups of old timey references. Lorelai and Sookie: We're coming up with names for the new inn. Michel: How about the Money Pit? The Outhouse? The Inn Headed for Bankruptcy?
Tumblr media
Heh heh.
Tumblr media
I only recall seeing a police car in Stars Hollow two other times (when Kyle's party got busted up and the time Jess comes back in season 4 and gets pulled over? Am I forgetting anything?). Here's the big emergency that called the mythical, rarely seen Stars Hollow Police into town. Spoiler alert: It was some chalk.
Tumblr media
And now this pathetic town of bored people with nothing better to do are going to call an emergency meeting over some chalk. Taylor is fa-reaking the fuck out.
Taylor: I've got a dead body outside of my store! Sheriff: No, you have a chalk outline in front of your store.
Tumblr media
Sheriff: My partner's out doing a headcount to see if anyone is missing. Until then, just hang tight. Let me remind you how many people live in Stars Hollow. Sometimes it may seem like you only see the same 15 people over and over, but the mind can play dirty tricks on you.
Tumblr media
Yes Taylor, just hang tight for a few minutes while one police officer does a head count of nearly 10,000 people. A police officer going around counting people to see if anyone happens to be dead is one of my favorite bits of absurdity in the entire show. 30 seconds later:
Tumblr media
Golly that was fast!
Tumblr media
Heh heh heh. It is a pretty stupid prank. I think most of Jess' pranks are amateur at best. I believe in his potential. He could come up with something way better. The people of Stars Hollow deserved to be Punk'd for how they treat him. I give this one an A though, because it pissed everyone off so thoroughly, and that's all that matters.
Tumblr media
Gilmore Girls wardrobe department: LAYERS! MORE LAYERS, DAMN IT! Wardrobe Assistant: He's in a shirt under a shirt under a vest! I cannot layer anymore! *cries*
Tumblr media
Sooo purdy.
Tumblr media
Luke jamming a screwdriver into a toaster is highly erotic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It goes without saying that from here on out we are going to be pausing often to admire screen shots of Jess with absolutely no context. Tomatos Sign: Spotted
Tumblr media
Oh, we haven't gotten to the part where Jess murders Shane and dumps her body in the lake. We'll get to that in season 3. In my gritty Gilmore Girls reboot titled The Hollow, there could be several justified homicides. For one example, it's canon that Luke never throws Taylor off a bridge, so my reboot would seek to correct this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
HE'S JUST A LITTLE GUY LET HIM SULK AND LURK What the hell else is there to do in Stars Hollow anyway? The image of Jess of visiting an arts and crafts store is pretty hilarious.
Tumblr media
What the hell is AmyShermanPalladino's obsession with swans? "Swans scream one thing, Mom. Sigfried and Roy." Ah yes, another fine early 2000's tasteless "gay" insult. Luke & Lorelai are discussing the grave consequences of missing or even being late to a town meeting. To which I say, if Taylor threatens you, just tell him you're gonna squeal to the Feds about all of his shady financial crimes. That'll shut him right up.
Tumblr media
He's been in town for like what, a week and he's already a "situation". I think that's awesome. Your mere existence on this Earth is so powerful that you've thrown an entire community into disarray. Good for you, baby. Good for you.
Tumblr media
May I remind you again they are calling this community meeting because of some chalk. "When Mrs. Lanahan couldn't buy lettuce from my store, she drove straight to Woodbury instead." You know what, I just gotta bide my time and let the nutcase rant, because Walmart will eventually drive him out of business for good and in a double scoop of justice, I have faith that he'll also be taken down for his money laundering crimes.
Tumblr media
This committee of 85 year olds will seal Jess Mariano's fate. It looks like Hell's waiting room. Jess loves a good town meeting because it's the only time he gets to stay home and whack off in private. Luke tries to give Taylor $1 for a head of letuce (actually, first he asks "how much is a head of lettuce?" which is something he should know if he's running a diner, but I digress. "The CHARGES against your nephew are numerous!" Let's hear them, shall we? He stole the "Save the Bridge" money. But Taylor was going to launder that money, what will he do now? He stole a gnome from Babette's garden. He "hooted" one Miss Patty's dance classes. Please try to imagine Jess ever "hooting" a woman (uhh, she means catcalling...I guess? I could see him calling out some sarcastic quip/witty observation though. He took a garden hose. Why Jess? Why? How did they know he did it? What did he intend to do with it? Where did he keep it? With the 500 baseballs he stole from the school? He set off the fire alarms at school last week. This is a more serious prank that would have gotten him in big trouble if he was caught. And again, Lane and Dean go to this school. Hello? I know at this point Jess and Rory don't know each other well, but that's still major gossip, so why are Rory's boyfriend and best friend always keeping this stuff from her? I am Jess Mariano's defense lawyer and every last thing my client does to annoy the citizens of Stars Hollow is justified. Lorelai, sarcastically: I heard he controls the weather and wrote the screenplay to Glitter** (**a movie starring Mariah Carey that came out in 2001 and is regarded as one of the worst movies of all time and was a box office bomb and possibly the biggest blight ever on MC’s career). You know, Lorelai is being sarcastic by saying she thinks Jess controls the weather but she hates him so much I wouldn't put it past her that she actually believes that. I mean, she already believes that the sun shines out of Dean Forrester's ass. Bootsy: I never like the look of that kid, I knew he was bad as soon as I saw him. AGAIN HE'S BEEN HERE FOR LIKE A WEEK. The subject of the meeting turns from Jess to piling onto Luke for no good reason, and my man Lucas is just about to burst a blood vessel defending himself and Jess from these nutjobs. I honestly couldn't love him more. He's so REAL. Please don't stroke out on us, we need you. Taylor: "There is a consensus among all the towns people that Stars Hollow was a much better place before Jess got here." Kindly go to hell, Taylor Doose.
Tumblr media
Dean spending two days on his hands and knees scraping Jess' prank from cement is a beautiful kind of justice. Edit: A commenter made me wonder how Jess made his artwork stick to the cement. Off to Google I went once again. Apparently you can use hairspray to set chalk art, but professional chalk artists use high grade varnishes to set their designs. Jess never half-asses anything. He puts his whole, cute little ass in. You also have to wonder how in a town full of unemployed busy bodies with nothing better to do than notice everything that goes on in town right down to when Rory Gilmore farts, not a single person heard or saw any of this happening. Lorelai fretting that the Independence will be sold to a corporate hotel chain is realistic and it would inevitably happen in my gritty Gilmore Girls reboot titled The Hollow. The Independence Inn would become a Holiday Inn, Luke's would become a Starbucks, Doose's would become a Walmart, and Dean Forrester's house would be a parking lot after a meteor crashed through the roof.
Tumblr media
Someone should bash your head in with a safe.
Tumblr media
Never in the history of mankind has a single individual sown so much havoc with a single stick of chalk.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Every time I look at that wool jacket lining I feel super itchy.
Tumblr media
The captions should really say "okuh", and not "okay." Because that was a stellar "okuh". Get it right. Just another injustice perpetuated against Jesstopher Mariano.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh, she did. To be continued in Part 2 so I can add more screen shots.

20 Questions for Fic Writers!
Thank you for the tag @queerofthedagger <3
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
22
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
242,705, which is absolute madness. didn't even realise i have that much to say abt merlin and arthur lol
3. What fandoms do you write for?
BBC Merlin xx
4. Top 5 fics by kudos?
stone cold: the one where merlin was turned into stone. bit heavy i have to admit, no idea what i was on when i wrote it
through storm and hellfire: the one where merlin was kidnapped to force Destiny™'s hand , things went to shit, and arthur went through a Difficult Journey of Discovery (or: the wringer) where he learnt that his dad was not, in fact, a good guy....among other things
flickering embers: the one where arthur lost merlin to the veil between the worlds only for merlin to be spat back out, lose his memory, and become a druid leader
winning the battle: the one where old religion claims everything that makes merlin merlin as a price for the immense magic he used to win arthur's battle
quiet light: the one where merlin stayed mad after agravaine convinced arthur that gaius was a traitor
my takeaway from this is that people enjoy it when i make arthur suffer
5. Do you respond to comments?
i do try but i am genuinely horrible at it. it's so so nice to receive them and i read every single one but i kind of don't know how to respond to them sometimes. one day we will get there
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
i did intend for the long way round ANd a line that goes all the way to have angsty endings but oops guess my hand slipped.
the number of times i intended a fic to have an angsty ending only for me to faff with it later... unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on where you stand on this) my mind would not let me rest until I added a happier ending
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
the three trials. it ended well for everybody. and not to toot my own horn or anything but i'm quite happy with it. i think i have a tendency to rush endings generally speaking, but i quite enjoyed writing the ending to this one.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
not yet and tbh i'd prefer to keep it this way thank you xx
9. Do you write smut?
i do like thinking about writing it but i just can't bring myself to actually type it out before i give myself the ick. maybe one day
10. Do you write crossovers?
no
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
not that i know of
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
no
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
no
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
i think the fact that im still in here 10 (?) years after the show ended on says something about merthur lol. once and future ship init
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?
the sword and his shield. i still really like the concept i have for it and i still have the ideas for it rattling around in my head, but i just feel like it flopped. i write for myself and clear my head of plotlines and random bits of dialogue rather than external validation, but it just feels a bit like mumbling into the void
16. What are your writing strengths?
banter and describing emotions that are not my own <3
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
worldbuilding. coming up with the concept is fine, i can do that, but i find the keeping track on them challenging
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language?
i mean if somebody else wants to do it, go for it, fair play, but personally i will not. only because i can't be 100% sure that i wouldn't get things wrong
19. First fandom you wrote for?
fairly sure i wrote HP (drarry), just never published it. don't remember what it was about, either.
the first one i published on ao3 was marvel (stevebucky). i have not touched it since my return to fandom and tbh im not going to
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
i feel like i should say storm and hellfire because it is my child, it is the longest thing i've ever written, and i feel like it is the only thing i write that resembles an Actual Story (idk how else to put it). i surprised myself by actually finishing it. think it took about two years and i was a bit bereft after the last chapter was posted.
that being said, the fic i enjoy rereading the most (i.e. without cringing) is probably a line that goes all the way. it ticks all my own boxes and caters to all my interests lmao what can i say
not tagging anybody in particular but if you'd like to do this, feel free to say i tagged you xo

Brainrot part 2 of hopefully 3 or 4(Someone save me)
I don’t have a creative way to start this one so I’m just gonna lay this thought out on the table and see where it goes.
There’s def merit to the concept of healthy rejection in media, esp cartoons, to teach kids that it’s a perfectly normal part of life. I don’t disagree with this take whatsoever.
That said, I find it really unlikely for things to be  be heading in that direction for  Hunter and Willow.
A standard confession just doesn’t fit with the tone of events
The general concept behind the rejection idea is  is simple. Hunter will confess his love to Willow, she will politely turn him down and they’ll continue to be friends.
What I find extremely questionable would be the context that would have to take place around this. Ya can’t get rejected if ya don’t properly confess and well...
I think a love confession is quite unlikely. Why?
Tumblr media
This is the note we left Hunter on. Grieving the loss of his first friend by his abuser. While it’s been shown time and time again that he’s really fond of Willow,  his growing feelings  for her are not at the front of his mind right now. He still has to come to terms with his identity crisis,Flapjack’s demise and the inevitable talk with Willow and Gus about his nature as a grimmwalker. Likewise I think the show centering a lot of this angst around the Emerald trio is a pretty safe indicator that Willow and Gus just want to support him during this very somber time both Flapjack related as well as Caleb stuff.
I do believe Willow/Hunter will get an intimate talk(esp considering he more or less died in her lap for a bit) that should paint a clearer picture as to where their relationship is likely heading after all this mess is resolved. The most I feel to realistically expect in terms of displayed affection with them in this short term is probably handholding or Hunter initating a hug for once. Which I feel is fine for such a lategame pair that was  incorporated with the time crunch in mind. I think of it as a more blatant version of Gravity Falls Dipper/Pacfica pairing.
Granted, with all of that said, I am pretty sure Willow already has an inkling on Hunter’s feelings towards her but this post is long enough already and  so this will be covered seperately as it is a loooot shorter than this writeup

How A BL Can Go From Melodrama to *Cinema* 🤩
1. Better production quality across the board. But particularly when it comes to set dressing (all BL markets), audio quality (Thai BLs), sound design and sound track. Tired of hearing unintentional real-room acoustics because GMMTV was too cheap to buy enough wireless mics for every actor, or because MeMindY thought wireless mics were the only kind of mics allowed ever and now we can hear every brush against the mic, or hearing the water on the beach over the actor's actual voice. Tired of the bland, plain "dorm room" with absolutely no personality that's clearly shot in a hotel room. Tired of the same 15-20 clearly royalty-free backing tracks blaring over an actor's voice at inappropriate times that are the editor's way of calling the viewers idiots by handfisting a cue that a tonal shift is occurring. And I am utterly exhausted with cheesy sound effects that completely suck the tension out of every scene! Just fucking stop!!!! Example of good production quality: The Blue Hour (not a series but still...).
youtube
2. Multi-season series (with shorter seasons overall). And no, I don't mean sequels (a la Tharntype 2/Still 2gether) where the characters are fundamentally in a different story. I want to see genuine conflict explored with the care it deserves, characters actualized, and romantic moments that linger just enough to leave viewers wanting more. Most BL storylines are entirely too rushed (or, on the other hand, feel like 2 different stories crammed into one season of television). I'd rather split up seasons by character arc the same way it's done in Hollywood or anime and cut seasons down from 12-14 episodes to 8-10. I feel like most Thai BLs would benefit from taking the multiple shorter-seasons than the one longer-season approach. Good example of a multi-season series, with strong pacing due to tighter seasons: Young Royals.

3. Better acting. And no, I don't mean crying and screaming because that's what the uninitiated think good acting looks like. I'm talking microexpressions when Neo portrays Boston's silent hurt watching Top take genuine interest in Mew. I'm talking the subtle glance down to Juntaek's lips when Jisub shows Jaewon's inital interest in Jihyun on their meetcute. And I'm talking the quiver of Fourth's voice when Gun is confronted with the reality that maybe he's not cut out for the music industry. A great performance doesn't necessarily have to be understated or even realistic, but it does need to be consistent with the story conventions and characters we're dealing with. Under/overacting to the point of parody is okay in satire. But doing so in a story that otherwise leverages typical romance/tragedy story beats looks ridiculous. It would also be great if all the lead actors were talented too.... Example of a good acting performance: Fourth (most of the time) in My School President.
4. Increased story variety. From broad themes and co-genres all the way to specific character arcs and tropes, we need more variety in BL stories (ESPECIALLY in KBL). Give me more period pieces, sci-fi, horror stories, star-crossed lovers, soulmates, magical boys, heroes' journeys, survival stories, mysteries, etc.! Good example of an unconventional character arc: Not Me.
Tumblr media
5. Longer Episodes for KBLs. This is one area of production I think the KBL industry can learn a lot from the Thai BL industry. While the stories I've watched never really feel rushed, they do feel a bit empty/inadequate. The writers could explore more themes and character drama just by lengthening episode runtime 10-15 minutes per episode. Good example of a KBL with many longer episode runtimes: The Eighth Sense.
Tumblr media
6. Subtlety. This is kind of an amalgam of 1 and 3 but I want to say more. Stop telling me the plot/character arc and just do the plot or arc. Stop cueing tonal shifts with on-the-nose music/sound effects and trust that, as your viewer, I am intelligent enough to know that the actors have gotten serious after a bout of laughter, or have simmered down from a heated exchange. When you cue your viewer, you either think they're dumb or you don't trust that your actor, director, and/or writer are doing their jobs. Either way, the viewer is left unsatisfied. Good example of subtle storytelling: I Told Sunset About You.

hello artie! i just read the latest drabble and I just want to share my inital thoughts before re-reading it later and talk about further. to be honest, that drabble felt like a glass of cold water was poured right into my face. seeing oc's relationship lore gave me a different perspective on how i see her and not in a bad way. it felt like the unsettling silence after a storm where you are picking up the branches that was torn from a big tree. i hope that made sense. oc's past relationship was so fcking heartbreaking, i could only imagine how it felt being in her shoes and having to put those experiences away from how you view yourself, you know? i have conflicted emotions right now and I am having a field day wanting to decipher all of these. it made me reflect on so many things. wow, you are so cool, art. for some reason, in my perspective, oc is kind of like giving me yerin baek-coded vibes. delicate and romantic but also very strong and cool and makes you want to protect her and let her put her guards down for a while because holy shit life has been so cruel to her. and for that, thanks to jungkook indeed. and of course, our jungkook who is so strong and so loving and understanding. i cannot fathom how hard it must be for him especially leading up to their break-up and while they are becoming more and more known worldwide, I could understand him more now why he did that. it must have been so hard for him. oh jungkook, the beloved angel who loves with all his heart and wants to protect his loved ones even at the expense of his own.
ah! I want to keep this brief and precise but the words seem to flow through my fingers. i'm sorry hahahaha!
˚˖𓍢ִ໋🦢˚
it felt like the unsettling silence after a storm where you are picking up the branches that was torn from a big tree.
what a beautiful yet gutwrenching way to put it :( this is also how i felt while writing. i didn’t know what to expect from your reactions after reading because this time the topic can be heavy and complex, people could perceive things in different ways— as much as possible i wanted it to feel raw 🥲 i mean i always do but this time i think i tried harder. oc is such a compelling character even for me and exactly as you described 🥺 yerin baek-coded 🥺 i just want to wrap them in a blanket and protect them forever.
and ahhh hearing jungkook be more understood for the breakup makes me so glad </3 things are so hard for him as well but he remains to be the most amazing and loving person to ever exist :( a beloved angel indeed ㅠㅠ 💞
AND PLSSSSS it’s always such a delight to hear your thoughts so don’t feel bad about writing long messages hehe 🥹🥹🥹 it brings me happiness as a writer and helps me improve as well. thank you so much and i love you!
