Wakana to Participate in a Special Studio Ghibli Tribute Album!

A special Studio Ghibli Tribute album will be released and it is produced by Satoshi Takebe, a composer, arranger, and music producer who has strong ties to Studio Ghibli works. The 12 participating artists have just been announced and one of them is Wakana! All songs will be announced at a later date. Every artist will create music with their own interpretation of Studio Ghbili songs and one of the great pleasures of this album will be to discover who will be singing which song. The title of the album "ジブリをうたう/Ghibli wo Utau/Singing Ghibli" was created by Goro Miyazaki and the cover image will also be designed/illustrated by him!

Oh my, this is great news! I am hyped! What a great collaboration project! Quite a few big names (or at least names associated with big projects). Hopefully this will give Wakana some exposure! I know not everyone is a fan of Satoshi Takebe but I love that he provides some good opportunities for Wakana. I am so curious to find out which will be Wakana's appointed song, is it gonna be one of the tracks she already did for her cover album or another one? At any rate, hopefully it is something that highlights her vocal abilities such as "Inochi no Namae" or "Mononoke Hime" because she sounds AMAZING in songs like that. I just hope it's NOT "Yasashisa ni Tsutsumareta Nara" or a similarly cheerful song because this stuff is not flattering to her at all despite her great appreciation for these types of songs. In this tweet it looks like they are already teasing a couple of the songs, apparently Leo Ieri will be singing "Kimi wo Nosete" (which would have been one of my top-choices for Wakana too) and Kohei Matsushita will be singing "Country Road". Anyway, I will wait to pre-order this until they release some further info. There might be some Wakana specific tokutens so it probably pays off to be a little patient

We are seeking contributions for an edited volume of chapters and essays about the HBO Max streaming series Our Flag Means Death. Contributions may include full-length chapters (up to 5000 words), shorter essays, fan art, or other original work that has not previously been published. The goal of this volume is to celebrate the positive effects of this show on both fans and creators. We hope to include personal and analytical essays or fan works related to any of the following topics or intersections of topics: identity exploration / diversity themes - LGBTQIA+, disability identity, indigenous identity, race or ethnic group identity, age, gender roles, found family or created family; mental health; fandom/fan studies - how the show re-ignited a love of and participation in fan works, fan art, fan fiction, cosplay, cakes(!), conventions/fan communities, fan activism/charity work/advocacy; historical (in)accuracies; production/creative choices - humor, New Zealand humor/culture, costume/set design, etc. If you have an idea that is not listed here, please feel free to submit as long as it relates to OFMD and fandom/fan studies in some way. We are currently exploring publishing options and hope to have more information soon. At this point, contributors will not be paid a stipend, but will receive a complimentary copy of the book.

Another OC character question bit I did last year and wanted to share! This time featuring my characters Mal (dark haired one) and Kaela (light haired one) from my story Feathers and Flowers! ;w;

Given my general lack of posting OC work here up until recently, I know I’ve never shown off Mal’s human form, so here it be! If you need a reminder, Mal is the big gal with horns and wings in this post :> You’ll also see Kaela’s updated and current design there too; piece is before I gave her a haircut and some alterations to her design. owo

For general context: Mal is a Spirit and she’s basically ended up as Kaela’s roommate and work partner on her humble lil farm out in the country. Why Mal is even in the human realm is a mystery, but she’s on a mission no one is fully aware of. o3o

 If you don’t mind a bit of lore trivia:

Mal is very fascinated with all types of gaming; there isn't such a thing in her own realm so it's an entirely new and exciting experience for her. She in particular really enjoys horror games and survival RPGs, and anything that promotes a challenge. Horror games don't scare her but she remains invested all the same. She does have an ulterior motive for playing them though, and that's partly because Kaela does the jumping and fearing and hiding for her. Quite frankly, Mal thinks it's both endearing and funny. uwu

But ye! To those of you who’re here for Koopa/Big-Daddy Bowser shenanigans no fears! I’ve got stuff in the works, I just had OC art sitting on my harddrive and wanted to share that stuff :> More to come soon! ;w;

Presenting: Ashyereh the (almost) Mad Monarch

Technically don’t have that much on them yet but bear with me. I’ve decided to combine Ashyereh and the unnamed Monarch who was supposed to have skewed morals and looked to the ROs for moral guidance.

Undecided which RO route, possibly all poly route or Naja/Kaela.

Used to be called Yereh by their siblings

Their father would affectionately call them 'little ashtree' or 'sproutling', which they used to pout at

They used to be more expressive with their face giving most if not all of their emotions away, and had 0 control over it. After slavery, there is very little which shows on their face. Naja coming to save them? A nod of acknowledgement. Ordering Dehjyr’s public execution? Not even a twitch. Having Sahyra placed under house arrest and with guards stationed at the entrance, with their sibling under strict orders not to leave his designated rooms without Ashyereh’s explicit permission? Naja throwing Ashyereh worried glances as they raise the taxes? The servants and employees growing more and more fearful? Rumors about their cruelty? Actually making heartless decisions which will end up making people suffer? Nothing. They don’t even seem to have a conscience anymore, no warmth in their heart, no care. No emotions.

Which they would confirm, if asked, whatever they feel is barred behind a thick fog. Occasionally, some anger slips through or they experience a muted spark of satisfaction. But it’s always fleeting, always weak, it slips through their fingers like sand. 

Unless they are around the ROs. Then there is this weird… spark of elation. Of joy. It’s still muffled but it rings so clear, passes through the fog. And it is oh so addicting. So addicting, in fact, that Ashyereh wants to hide the ROs away. Wants to see them protected and only for the Monarch’s eyes. Whatever emotions the Monarch might have felt, they were snuffed out by what they experienced as a slave. (And they lived through some of humanity's worst depravities. And that’s what they took away from it all: The strong survive. Hurt others before they can hurt you and you control the game. Divest them of their dignity and you hold all the strings. Fear is your greatest ally. No one will ever hurt you again. You needn’t feel anything. Snuff it out.)

But being able to feel something, anything at all? It’s intoxicating. Exhilarating. They would do anything to keep this. 

For the ROs, they would bring other countries to their knees. To see them fed, Ashyereh would see others starve. To have them dressed in the finest clothes, to have them turn to Ashyereh and smile at them while they are handed whatever their hearts desire? Ashyereh would set the world on fire.

Morals are for philosophers. 

At which point, I assume, the ROs would stage the intervention. One last ditch effort to make Ashyereh see reason. To get to the root of it all, to try and see if there is a festering wound in need of care and attention. Or if all is lost.

It wouldn’t be. On the precipice of no return, yes. Impossible to piece back together, the way it was before? Yes.

But still salvageable. 

I kept Ashyereh in my inbox for a while because I love them. Thank you for sending their profile in, learning about your monarchs is one of my absolute favourite thing!

First of all, I applaud your ability to create a simp, sweet and gentle monarch and then a cold and ruthless monarch (also a simp).

Ashyereh is the definition of a possessive monarch, one who wants to keep their ROs out of strangers eyes and exclusively for themselves. They are also the perfect tyrant ruler, a sometimes heartless one, in general someone who was forged by the pain they endured and became... something else.

I love that there is still a small, flickering hope for them, and that the ROs will take it once the occasion arises. They don't want the version of them they were before. They just want the monarch to be at peace.

❝   AND WHILE WE'RE ON THE SUBJECT OF HALLOWEEN, can we take a minute to talk about what's happening up at hogwarts this week ? if any of our listeners aren't in the loop, headmistress mcgonagall has given permission for the graduating class of 2014 to use the great hall for their 'ten year reunion' - an event long expected not to be happening given the, well... everything of their final school year. i mean, it's a little gauche, isn't it ? i understand the sentiment, and i think we can all agree that this is better than the alternative, but are any of them even in the celebratory mood ? perhaps they should've contented themselves with mikaela karkaroff's entry to awestriking halloween parties - hers at least comes without a side of survivors guilt !  ❞

WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE :

HOGWARTS : though there is a long standing tradition for graduates of hogwarts school of witchcraft & wizardry to reunite ten years to the day of leaving school and celebrate with a blowout sort of party, it's long been accepted that the graduating class of 2014 would have to go without for fairly obvious reasons. the anniversary of the battle of hogwarts lies much too close to the date where students usually sail across the black lake for the final time, and most would agree that it would be in poor taste to celebrate leaving school for good around the time when so many of their classmates lost their lives. with that being said, however, there have always been those few among the 2014 class group who felt like it would be unfair to miss out on such an important milestone - ideas for how to throw their party in a classy way have been thrown around for years, usually by pansy parkinson and friends, but it was actually professor mcgonagall who came up with the bright idea of celebrating around halloween and extended the invitation to her ex students. the hogwarts owls delivered invites scrawled across heavy parchment exactly two weeks before the 31st of october, 2023 - on them she had written plainly enough that they were, in a sense, owed this event. no previous school year had missed out so completely and the heroes of the battle of hogwarts deserved their chance to reminisce without feeling the heavy weight of that day pulling them down. she said that the great hall ( already decorated for the halloween feast that current students would attend earlier in the night ) would make a perfect setting for a halloween themed reunion, and promised the bloody baron would be kept on a tight leash for the duration of the night. it came together rather perfectly.

MIKAELA KARKAROFF'S HOME : mikaela karkaroff doesn't really care about the record, but if she did, she'd probably want it known that her 'blowout halloween party' had been in planning for WEEKS before the class of '14 got their special set of plans. minister karkaroff might have a habit of stealing the thunder of the boy who lived, but the same just can't be said for her. as always, she tried to keep her guest list exclusive with invitations written across parchment dyed black, but her brothers loose lips have led to it being another one of those 'word of mouth' sort of things she hates - a lot of money has been sunk into the event to make sure that it's a night to remember, and she's loathe to share that with any of the more unsavory types. the overall theme is a classic haunted house, her london abode transformed into a creepy set dimly lit by melting candles, thick fog layered over expensive carpet. she's outdone herself in the design of each individual room, going for an obvious 'less is more' sort of strategy - everything is covered in heavy red and black velvets, cobwebs and dust placed to give the impression of neglect, but the 'scares' are well placed & just right. she mightn't have covered a room in fake blood or placed fake skeletons where they might get a jump, but hired ghosts of various periods have made her home their own for the night and have promised a perfect performance. kaela's bar is run by ned weasley and a few of his staff, an intentional annoyance she gleefully arranged, while the same prestigious catering company who deals with the menu of the ministry gala has provided appetisers for guests to enjoy. she even hired an up and coming wixen band - the ghouls - to play for the duration of the night, though she probably didn't expect them to arrive with an actual ghoul in tow.

OUT OF CHARACTER:

happy halloween, nox ! this very special two - in - one event has been in the pipeline for a while, and i hope that you're as excited as i am about the lore implications of it all. i always knew there could be no true 'ten year reunion' for the golden trio characters - it'd just be in poor taste, considering the boh - but i was also aware that i couldn't let that opportunity slip is by, and with halloween being so important in the world of hp ... this idea was born, instead. i couldn't just cater to them for this event, but i can't disguise how hyped up i am for that half !

the event begins as soon as this is posted and continues for two weeks ! the galleon system will continue to run throughout and end the same time, so don't worry about missing out on earning more coins to spend as you wish !

as always : no character is required to attend either event, nor are you required to take part though you are highly encouraged to do so ! the reunion party is, of course, intended to be the smaller of the two events - there's only so many characters in that specific year ( especially thanks to, you know ... the war ) but mikaela's party is much more open, invites spreading by word of mouth thanks to niko !

this event was envisioned as being a discord & dash combo, mostly because i didn't know how many people would be getting involved in either or ! any event specific posts should be tagged with nox.event038 on dash, and the locations for anyone who tags them are hogwarts & london !

Any headcanons on Anya? I’ve always found her to be a fairly underrated member of HoloID

I do too! She’s really a treasure and I feel more people should watch her streams. Couple headcanons for the fun of it

Anya was a well-used weapon in the past, used to spill blood frequently

Reine was actually the one who completed the ritual to give Anya a human form; after being isekai’ed into the human world, Reine tried using her magic on a kris that happened to be on display in an old museum (as she recognized the design of the blade as familiar to weapons back home), but assumed the magic failed when there was no immediate reaction, and left.

If she had stayed for another ten seconds she would’ve seen Anya breaking the glass and falling onto the floor

Anya feels a slight pull towards Reine as a result, but can’t remember why. Likewise, Reine feels a tug of magic towards Anya for some reason she can’t place

Her apathetic yet also sometimes sadistic and cutting personality is mostly a result of her being an inanimate object given life; she’s still getting the hang of socialising. That being said, she’s always had a spirit of sorts the moment she was first forged, so it’s not like she was totally unfeeling prior to coming to life.

Anya remembers every kill she’s been forced into committing as a result of this. Her opinion on the matter is mixed.

She doesn’t admit it, but she also has a certain attraction towards Kaela. Blacksmith reasons, naturally.

Despite being in a human form, she still has some blade-like properties. A lot of the time, she’s cold to the touch, and is actually rather physically resistant to piercing damage.

In music, ephemera can be improvised moments in a live performance or musing ideas in the rehearsal room that get scrapped. These musical ephemera are unique because they are discarded; they do not exist beyond their first and only playing.

So, Ephemera Collection 18-19 by Cyrus & Oz is a bit of a misnomer. These are ephemera that were collected, but might have been lost to the ether if no one had pressed ‘record.’ These sounds were captured delicately and caringly from live venues at DownerEast Fest of Belfast, Maine, and She-Sha Hookah Lounge of Blacksburg, Virginia, as well as other music-filled basements, attics, and outdoor spaces.

These tracks are heard with added weight as we collectively endure times when live music has been largely impossible to fully experience. The chatter of a crowd or the banter of a few voices brings listeners into the space of each track – as if they were standing around the moment these fragile slices of music were pulled from imagination. Bittersweetness abounds in Ephemera Collection 18-19 as we grow into a new understanding of how fragile and fleeting these musical experiences can be. credits released May 19, 2023

How do the 4 Feathers & Flowers ladies react to physical affection? Do they have a preference for giving or receiving it?

Aight, so the girls. For anyone who needs the reminder, here's the post that shows them in their most current designs! :>

-Kaela is a giver of affection. Her means of doing so is often in loving terms of endearment (she will often refer to anyone she meets "my love", "my sweet", or "sweetie") and casual touch. How she expresses her affection could be likened to being nurturing; it's not unusual for her to hold your hand or give you gentle pats, or give your forehead or cheek a lil kiss when she feels particularly sweet. Her affection is given freely but in a quiet sort of way. As for receiving it, she accepts it gracefully and with appreciation; it's rare for affection to surprise her. :>

-Mal is on neutral ground when it comes to affection; she doesn't initiate often but when she does it's very thoughtful, careful, considerate. Especially so as she learns human customs, which is distinctively different from her home culture. Some of her home customs does bleed through her behavior though, such as bowing and strong eye contact, a kiss to the back of the hand. A human would describe it as "gentlemanly", but it's her simply being polite. If she feels particularly friendly and close to someone you may be subject to the occasional headbutt and, far more often, gifts. As for her receiving affection, she doesn't mind it, enjoys it, but she also doesn't typically seek it.

-Sakura is the most openly affectionate and giver of affection of the girls. Unlike Kaela, Sakura gives her love like she does everything else; loudly. It's usually in the form of crushing bearhugs, back slaps, and crowding into personal space. She's very unafraid to give small but genuine compliments (I love your shirt, it brings your eyes out! Your laugh makes me happy! You look badass with your beard; like a king!) and she's no stranger to giving people nicknames. Her affection is so unrestrained that sometimes she may overstep on accident, but she usually can pick up on that and adjust accordingly. Worst case someone will simply ask her to ease up and she will without a fuss, or she will ask herself. As for receiving affection, she accepts it as freely as she gives it. She loves hugs, and holding hands, and wrestling, and being given a nickname and little endearments. The only time she ever really flusters to affection if it's toward her personality; she doesn't fully know how to accept compliments in that regard.

-Evangeline's show of affection is subtle and quiet. She very rarely ever initiates physical affection (she's far too anxious to) but she shows her love by doing little tasks or helping however she can, and being extremely attentive. She's the type to run for the usual coffee meet-up so she isn't late, remembers almost everything you'll ever tell her; any and all dates that are important to a specific person will be filed away neatly and will stay with her.
