One thing I really love about my novel is the MC is a fucking idiot. The BIGGEST dumb-dumb you've ever met. Introduces himself to someone he's known for 6 months dumb. Touch the stove to test if its hot dumb. Eats raw chicken and wonders why he gets sick dumb.

But also, he's a fucking alchemist. Basically a fantasy chemist. A fucking scientist of magic. And in the later books he's literally INVENTING things and improving the world with his inventions-- But still throughout it all he doesn't grow a single damn braincell and thinks the sky has feelings and that eating acorns off the ground raw and whole is normal.

Don't Lose Hope book 2 outfits!

Stars has a pretty dress that fits her properly. Ka'harja has clothes without holes in them. Distro's hiding her new draconic features (cos being clocked as a dragon-shifter while buying groceries is A Lot). And Dena still refuses to wear shoes

Trying to describe the patterns of a circuitboard from the perspective of someone who lives in a realm without computers *laughs* I think I did alright! And considering it will eventually be accompanied by artwork it's not too bad.

And this is the super rough concept I did back in 2017! Ideally I would like the flecks to have more rhyme and reason to them haha.

For context, the character is Aiaye (cough A.I.), an ancient deity that returned to Demrefor after a long time of absence!

Sken/Stars jealousy, early in the book VS about halfway through.

‘So people keep saying …’ Ka’harja almost continued, but there was a knock on the caravan’s door and Stars called to Annanyn, too quickly for Ka’harja to catch exactly what she’d said, but enough he wasn’t surprised when Sken shouted for her to come in. ‘Is he in here?’ Stars asked. Before anyone could answer she saw Annanyn, holding her baby, and her face broke into a wide smile and she held out all four of her arms. ‘My Little Demon! I’ve missed you so much! Thank you for looking after him, Annanyn! It was very nice of you!’ Ka’harja watched as Stars embraced Annanyn tightly— And heard a clump behind him as Sken’s tail hit the wall— No, she’d stabbed the wall. He dared a glance at her face and could swear he caught her jealous glare before she forced a grin on her face and pushed herself up. ‘She’s the best, isn’t she?’ Sken put an arm around her wife and eased between the girls, separating the two from their hug as she pulled Annanyn protectively against her side. ‘Oh, no,’ Annanyn reached a hand around Sken, and Ka’harja saw her smack her wife’s twitching tail-barb before taking her hand. ‘It’s selfish, really. I enjoy looking after him!’ ‘That’s good!’ Stars beamed. ‘It would be really sad if you didn’t like him. Because he’s wonderful and perfect and I love him a whole lot!’ Sken let out a genuine-sounding laugh before letting go of her wife and putting her arm around Stars instead. ‘He’s fantastic. How’s his weight going?’

‘Please talk to me,’ Annanyn sobbed. ‘Why don’t you trust me!’ Then Sken turned, and put her arms around her wife. They stood for a moment before walking wordlessly back to the fire and sitting. ‘I trust you,’ Sken muttered quietly. ‘I do.’ ‘Then why does how Stars feels matter?’ ‘I don’t want to lose you,’ Sken’s gills clamped, and she let out a sob. ‘She has everything I can’t give you and it makes me so scared I can’t breathe.’ ‘You’ve got more than she could ever offer me,’ Annanyn said softly, leaning into Sken’s chest and hugging her. ‘You will never, ever lose me. I promise.’ ‘She’s everything I want to be,’ Sken said, her voice quivering. ‘And she. … I know it’s stupid, but I feel like she’s going to take everyone from me. Like Koko and— And you.’ Annanyn’s lights lit up; though for once, it wasn’t a happy glow. She threw her arms around her wife and squeezed her tightly. ‘I would never leave you.’ Sken shivered, and looked away. ‘Even if it meant you could have a child?’ ‘No, not even if it meant I could have a child,’ she replied, her voice calmed and her lights dimmed. ‘Because if I couldn’t raise them with you— Well, what would the point of it be?’ Sken turned, looking her wife in the eyes for the first time. Her eyes were wide and tired, and her lips didn’t quite touch together as she stared.
