My Top 10 Ships of 2020

It's been a weird year but I've seen other people doing this. Plus this year I've been way more into gen fics (love a bit of found family especially in clone wars and marvel) than anything shippy. So I genuinely don't know what imma put on here aside from two ships for sure. Sorry this post is super long idk how to do the below the cut thing and I've had this app for 5 years...

10) Viktor Nikiforov and Yuuri Katsuki - Yuri!!! On Ice

It was a real toss up between this, supercorp, kanera and wolfstar cos they're all very integral ships to my fan heart but this son because of the Yuri on Ice fandom's rebirth this year. I've never stopped shipping this, never stopped reading fanfic of them for any extended period of time, they're still my most bookmarked ship on ao3 (although I think now star wars - all media types may have overtaken them for fandom). They were one of the first things I watched where the queer ship I loved became canon and I can't wait for the film (and hopefully someday a season 2). Heck I even made my mum watch Yuri on Ice with me so I think that says it all.

9) Edelgard Von Hresvelg and female Byleth - Fire Emblem: Three Houses

My first fire emblem game was fates when I was like 14 (and finally gay awake lol). I was so disappointed that I had to be with a guy character because the only female option was kinda creepy and also I wouldn't get the character of kana. So when three houses came out I was so happy because finally there were beautiful incredible female characters my female byleth could romance (I'm so sorry mlm you deserved so much more than you got). I got the game as soon as it came out (had to search a lot of shops let me tell you) and started on black eagles. I was actually kinda disappointed back in 2019. I didn't like the explore the monastery bit (still find it kinda tedious) and the battle mechanics weren't quite the same as fates (no pairing up?! Aka my main battle technique for protecting the weaker units). So I got like 20 hours in and put it down. Came back to it in lockdown and finally finished it! I'm so proud of myself I virtually never finish games. And I fully fell in love with the useless lesbian edelgard in the process. When I started back playing in 2020 I was like eh I wish I'd picked a different character to romance (like shes an emperor that's morally very shady) but then the romance stuff started with edelgard and I fell the heck in love.

8) Cory Matthews and Shawn Hunter (and Topanga Lawrence) - Boy Meets World

Disney+ was released in the UK this year and I finally got the opportunity to watch boy meets world in its best quality (aka not on YouTube). I watched it back when I was like 12 or 13 and it's such a nostalgic show for me. Watching it again I still absolutely adore it (and my bi ass was low-key crushing on Shawn especially in chick like me - I'm 18 btw and I got so scared for a sec but rider strong was 18 when chick like me came out so it's fine woah). And of course now I see the possibilities of the beautiful Cory and Shawn relationship like they were so bromance it was basically romance and throw in topanga it's the perfect ot3 (but I'm also fine with just Cory and Shawn or just Cory and Topanga). Read some good fanfic for them this year. My favourite was one about Shawn stealing makeup and stuff and exploring gender (need more fics like this I'm biiii).

7) Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes - Marvel Cinematic Universe

I rewatched all the MCU films this year too. And got really into Peter parker whump and irondad. Plus my eternal obsession with identity and relationship reveals of course led me from Spiderman identity reveals (and found family cuteness) to stucky coming out. Especially when it involves the internet and social media. Not my favourite ship but it's been significant to my year due to the sheer amount of marvel stuff I've read.

6) Satine Kryze and Obi Wan Kenobi - Star Wars

I rewatched clone wars in prep for season 7 and wow Satine's death was sad and sudden. She first appeared in S2 E13 I think and just the sheer sexual tension of their bickering. "The sarcasm of a soldier. The delusion of a dreamer." Just ugnnhhh my bi ass can't take much more of this. And Anakin just sipping his wine in the background grinning. And I fully believe korkie is a Kenobi.

5) Commander Cody and Obi Wan Kenobi - Star Wars

I am very much an Obi wan multishipper. I don't really have a favourite but I fully believe he was with satine and Quinlan in his life. I don't think be would've actually done anything with Cody because of the whole superior officer thing. And this probably isn't even my favourite Obi wan ship - that honour probably goes to quinobi or obitine. However the most popular ships in the fandom are codywan, quiobi and obikin. No offence to anyone who ships these they're just personally not to my taste, but I can't stand quiobi, and obikin I find only slightly more tolerable and I think that's just because there's so much obikin content so if I like the concept of a fic that happens to be obikin I'll read it. I'm just not a fan of the mentor/student relationships. So I generally favoured the codywan fics when there was shipping involved meaning I read a lot of them this year. Needed that nice fix it content post season 7.

4) Zuko and Katara - Avatar: the Last Airbender

Again I am a multishipper I have nothing against zukka it's cute. But I'm a zutara shipper first and foremost because when I first watched avatar I was like 13 and denying my gayness and gayness in general so I shipped the straight things and the straight things only. Most of these ships I stopped shipping - dramione, spuffy, some my little pony ones which we don't talk about. Zutara stayed. (I have nothing against any of the things I used to ship I just stopped shipping them so much/shipped new things more). I've continuously shipped zutara since I first watched avatar even if I didn't necessarily spend that much time on it it has always been here as one of my favourite ships. It has such good fanfic I swear including my favourite ever fanfic from any fandom - love thy enemy. Plus like the black games (reread this for the millionth time this year), a delicate subterfuge (which I read for the first time this year and damn it's so good) and so many more. With the avatar resurgence this year I haven't actually rewatched avatar aside from my normal random episode every now and then when I feel like it. But there's been a lot of avatar on my dash from people I follow getting into it and people I followed for avatar returning so naturally I returned to the fandom and read quite a lot of fanfic. I also read just a lot of avatar gen fics which were great at the whole found family thing I've been so obsessed with this year.

3) Catra and Adora - She Ra and the Princesses of Power

Catradora is canon! They kissed! What more is there to say. Arguably they should've been top but I never shipped them that much since I was always very much a multishipper when it came to she ra so yes I was very happy it became canon because we actually won for once but also I've never read much fanfic for them etc. But they are very much a dynamic I love and watching she ra all again in prep for season 5 I really enjoyed the build up of their relationship. The other two only go above because Buffy is my favourite show ever and damn there's some good fuffy fanfic and Aphra and Tolvan is both fresh in my mind and star wars owns me. Would love some catradora fic recs btw if anyone has them tho.

2) Buffy Summers and Faith Lehane - Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I didn't realise it was last year that I got super into them but according to my ao3 bookmarks it was lol. 2020 I swear it's lasted an eternity. I got into them about a month before lockdown (which feels like another lifetime). I've loved Buffy since I first watched it when I was 13. It's arguably still my favourite TV show. I've been through a lot of ships for Buffy - bangel to spuffy and now fuffy. I still think angel and her were a beautiful ship back in season 2 and especially in the angel episode I will remember you. But faith and Buffy had so much chemistry in season 3 - she would've been a fresh start for Buffy and the amount of fix it fics I read I swear. My favourite has to be one where they met in LA during Anne and how that changed everything feat Buffy's internal homophobia.

1) Cheili Lona Aphra and Magna Tolvan - Star Wars

I read Darth Vader (2015) and Doctor Aphra (2016) for the first time at the end of 2020 (got a comic subscription which has served me very well already I've nearly finished the star wars canon comics). Just to see canon queer ladies in star wars was so magical for me as a queer lady. I didn't think star wars would be so overt yet as to have a queer kiss in canon (even if it's in the comics) and especially not with the main character of arguably their main comic series. Now we just gotta hope that we'll get it in live action someday soon. They weren't the ship I consumed the most content of in 2020 but they were the highlight of my 2020 because star wars did that and I finally found out about it

Honourable mentions: Vivian and Elle - Legally Blonde, Candace and Vanessa - Phineas and Ferb, Stevie and Alex - Wizards of Waverly Place, Xander and Spike - Buffy the Vampire Slayer (I actually don't ship this but damn some authors are good - this was the ship that made me realise I don't need to like a ship if the author is good enough to write it well), Eli Vanto and Mitth'raw'nuruodo - Star Wars (started reading the books last year but finished this year and only started with fanfic this year), Villanelle and Eve - Killing Eve, Kanan and Hera - Star Wars, Barriss and Ahsoka - Star Wars, Remus and Sirius - Harry Potter, Kara and Lena - Supergirl (let's hope this becomes canon next year!) (Those last four are ones I've shipped forever some of my og ships but nothing particularly big has happened for me this year with them so)

I got Disney+ this year so rewatched a fair few things from my youth and though hey my obsession with that character may have been a little gay.

Headcanon: Deus Ex Scuba Gear

Note: Spoilers for Bly Manor. 

So, here is my Bly Manor/Supergirl crossover crackfic headcanon where Kara is Dani and her ex Mike gets killed by a truck when he walks into traffic after Kara comes out to him and breaks off their relationship.

“Mike, I think I’m gay,” the blonde whispers, too ashamed to speak any louder. The man next to her tenses slightly before a look of relief washes over him.

“Oh thank God,” he says, and smiles at a confused Kara.

“What? You’re okay with this?” Mike shrugs and shoots the woman his frustratingly disarming grin. 

“I mean, am I glad I’m being dumped? No. Am I relieved that the reason is you aren’t into guys? Kind of.” Kara wrinkles her brows in confusion and he continues. 

“I mean, I know I’m hot.” Mike grins again and winks at the blonde who purses her lips at his peacocking, “I thought maybe you were just frigid or something.”

“Mike!” Kara looks around to make sure no one is listening. Mike laughs and she shoots him a glare. 

“Hey, you’re the one that decided to break my heart at the corner of a major intersection.” 

He winks at her and she advances on the man, trying to shut him up. He skips away from her, ignoring the fact that he is now in the crosswalk of the intersection. 

“Mike! Stop fooling around!” the blonde pleads but the man ignores her. 

“Hey, were you checking out chicks while we were together?” He waggles his eyebrows and Kara balls her fists at her sides. She refuses to take the bait. The man just laughs at her silence. “Dude, you totally did. What’s your type?” 

He goes quiet suddenly and his face lights up. Kara shakes her head. It is seldom a good thing when the man gets a light bulb moment. 

“Hey Kara,” his face gets lecherous and Kara readies herself for some horrifying comment, “Would you let me watch?” 

Kara’s face blooms red with embarrassment and anger. She steps closer to jab her finger against the man’s face and get her point across. However, Mike anticipates this and he takes another step back, grin still in place even as a truck barrels into his body. Kara stares in shock, midstep and with her finger still in the air as Mike is flung at least twenty feet down the street. The smell of burning rubber as the truck attempts to stop and the blaring sound of a horn being pressed much too late fill her senses. 

Kara: “No, Mike, not gay as in happy. Good lord, dude!”

Kara is at the hospital when Mike is pronounced dead. Rhea never really liked her so she leaves for her apartment, still shaken but confused about how she feels about what happened. On the one hand she feels responsible for what happened, but on the other hand, she almost feels relieved. Until, that is, she goes to wash her hands in the bathroom and sees Mike standing behind her. She screams and when she turns around, he is gone. It isn’t until a few days later that she hears someone walking around her apartment that she realizes what happened. She grabs her trusty bat and walks out, expecting some coke addict rifling through her bookshelves but instead sees Mike, pawing at her bookcase. He grunts in frustration when his hand goes through a book but cheers when he manages to knock one onto the floor. Kara drops the bat in shock and Mike turns around, grins wide and puts a hand up in a peace sign, just like when he was alive.

Mike: “I’m still here, bro!”

Turns out Mike is tethered to Kara and it is a horrible, cruel curse. He is both the best and worst wingman and Kara is still not convinced he doesn’t try to peek when she is getting dressed or showering but he also helps her learn to be more confident. All his shameless arrogance makes him a great cheerleader, at least once they talk about some ground rules.

1. No creeping on Kara in the bathroom or when she is changing. Mike scoffs at this and mutters about being able to creep on hotter ladies. 

2. No unsolicited advice or comments about women that Kara is not interested in pursuing a relationship with. This is added after a week of Mike making comments about women that had Kara blushing constantly, even at work.

3. No watching when Kara has a lady over. She wasn’t sure where Mike disappeared off to when she did manage to have a date come back to her place but he would always leave after shooting Kara another peace sign and telling her to “do the circle thing I showed you.”

It all hits the fan when Rhea gets wind of Kara dating women and she packs up and leaves. She does not want to deal with that fallout and she would rather get a fresh start somewhere else. Where is that where else? London, Bly Manor, American au pair, you know the rest.

Kara: “Yeah, I’m gonna take a one way and gtfo of here.”

Who are our players at Bly?

Our cook Owen Sharma is good old Jack Spheer because sometimes these things write themselves. And who is our beloved Hannah Grose? Why, Lucy Lane. Because she was too good and I always want to see more of her. Plus she can be a stern little spitfire with the kids and ghosties (The kids refer to her to as Major). She takes her fine self and daydreams about the moment that charming Jack came over to get the job as a cook, not dead, just as a useless hetero (is that a thing? It is now...) that can’t fathom for some reason that Jack is totally in love with her.

As for Rebecca Jessel and Peter Quint? Kelly Olsen (the only character with any brain cells half the time) and Andrea Rojas, our muy caliente Scotsman. Is that racist? No, but her horrendous accent might be a crime. This version has none of the controlling assholeroy of Peter and no secretly killing Rebecca. Just good old bad luck in a horror series. Andrea gets drunk and tries to dive into the lake to find the chest of loot she is convinced is down there so her and Kelly can run away to America. 

Andrea: “This is a file on all the reasons you should run away from this haunted ass creepy mansion and come with me to America. Also, there is a map I drew of the lake with an X where the loot most definitely is.”

Kelly: “This is just a picture of you in lingerie and a sheet of paper you colored blue with a big red X in the middle.” 

Kelly dies trying to save her when Andrea starts to get hypothermia and they both drown in the freezing lake. Because why bury your gays when you can drown them? Amiright? Who finds their bodies the next day? This leads to the following section: Next slide, please!

Who is standing in for Miles and Flora Wingrave? Why, Ruby and a tiny Nia, of course. Nia is a sweet baby angel and I want to meet her as a little sister, totally doted on by her big sister, Ruby. Nia sees Andrea and Kelly arguing like lesbians (so much hand waving and crying and angry whispering) on the far end of the lake while their blue popsicle bodies float around. Ruby and Lucy drag little Nia away from the scene.

Nia: “My giant scarf is perfectly splendid! Also, I am baby.” 

Things get really spicy when Kara shows up, ghost!Mike and all. He complains about not being able to haunt the “hot chick from apartment 314” any more, but he perks up at the thought of “British broads.” Kara had hoped he was tethered to National City or something, but it appears he is linked to her. Mike is ecstatic when he finds out Bly is full of ghosts. He is always off somewhere exploring the mansion and only pops in to tell Kara snippets of Bly’s history and its many inhabitants. 

Meanwhile, we get to the real star of this indulgent charade. Lena as the wonderfully fit Irish (let her have the accent!) gardener, Jaime. She is convinced Kara is a corn-fed straighty from America until Kara throws herself at her in the greenhouse because flowers turn on lesbians (see Imagine You and Me and Georgia O'Keeffe’s many works. This is sapphic lore, kids.) She opens up about Mike and Lena smooches her so she doesn’t have to listen to the hot blonde’s delusions. 

Lena: “What do you mean it is too bright? What book? This is a watering can for my gardening activities. So is my fashionable, appropriately sized hat.”

Kara: *OMG she is so hot and cool, what do I do?* “Hey, do you guys do the circle thing in the UK?” 

Meanwhile, things are getting interesting with Mike and the ghosts: Kelly and Andrea, newly minted Bly ghosts, explain that they are stuck on the grounds. Mike, who believes in having the freedom of “you do you,” vows to break the curse. He strikes a heroic pose that makes Andrea roll her eyes but Kelly agrees they need to find out more about the origins of the Bly Manor curse. 

Flashback episode in a horrid b/w tone because I want to show this is old, okay. It’s not like we could figure it out by the clothes. Or the set dressing. Or the fact that the one of the characters died of “the lung.”

Anyway, we have our sisters, Viola and the other one. Their names don’t really matter because they are going to be the brunette one and the blonde one, played by the queen of period series: Katie McGrath.   

Anger-y brunette Katie, getting her smacking hand ready. 

And blonde, sad (but also evil? plot twist!) Katie, lusting after her brother in law. 

And they fight over none other than Daddy Cullen, Maxwell Lorde, because look at that hair, look at all those buttons, look at that big hand! Who could resist? 

The child is baby Lena being twirled by Anger-y Katie pre-“the lung” because let’s just have this turn into a black hole that destroys itself. 

Baby Lena: “Swing me, mummy. Swing me with your good lungs!”

Anger-y Smack-You-Every-Time Katie: “I swung too close to the sky and now this is happening to me.”

So while Kara and Lena are christening all sorts of places at Bly (yes, even the master wing because, of course, the master wing), Mike, Andrea, and Kelly are incepting themselves into all sorts of memories and whatnot. Cue that montage!

404 ERROR. MONTAGE NOT FOUND. 

Whoops, looks like we blew our budget on that black and white filter. Sorry about that.

Once the ghost trio realizes the chest in the lake doesn’t in fact hold some dragon’s hoard of gold, but the key to ending this madness, Mike pops in on Lena and Kara to bring them up to speed. Kara screams at him about the third rule while Lena tries to accept the fact that her girlfriend (yes, they are girlfriends by now, keep up) has a ghost for a best friend. 

Kara makes Mike look away while her and Lena get dressed and after quite a bit of exposition, they decide to pull the chest up from the lake. Lucy and Jack have been off playing hide the croissant or whatever the straights do during their leisure time, but they quickly hop on the “break the Bly manor curse” train.  

There is a fun B (C?) plot where Ruby and Nia steal Jack’s car and drive into town. No one in town cares because they are rich and all the adults at Bly are busy romancing each other and assume the girls are being odd rich kids playing somewhere in the manor. 

The adults are planning how to get down to the chest without suffering Andrea and Kelly’s fate, when they find some scuba gear the kids bought on their last trip to town. It is wholly impractical but the adults shrug and accept the plot hole so they can hurry this along. 

They draw straws and Kara has to dive down and tie some chains around the sunken chest. Lena jumps in front of limited edition Scuba Gear Kara to stop her but the American has to America so she dives into the freezing lake after a swoon inducing “I’ll be right back” kiss. Like, gifable on tumblr, twitter, and whatever new platform there is a hundred years from now.  

Scuba Gear Kara: “Guys, I can’t see anything through this helmet. Guys?“

After a few tense moments where Anger-y Olden Time™ Katie tries to stop Kara, Mike, Andrea, and Kelly step in and use their ghost powers to keep her away from Kara. Jack uses his car to pull up the haunted chest and they pry it open with a crowbar and plenty of moxie. The screams of slap happy Katie of the past ring out around the heroes as the curse is broken. The ghosts cheer, everyone laughs nervously (they know the end is never the end in a horror story) and Kara shivers from the cold until she is next to the fire, dry and cuddled up with Lena.

As her final act of revenge, Anger-y Katie gives Kara the Lung(!) but thanks to the power of Science, our spunky American pulls through after properly completing the full course of treatment and antibiotics. This includes Lena taking sexy care of her girlfriend. *wink*

Fave characters from the last 5 things I’ve watched/read/seen/etc:

Thanks for tagging me @capricornsicle​! I’m adding gifs, because I’m bored and I want to.

1) Isabelle Lightwood from Freeform’s Shadowhunters. The show is hella cheesy and low budget, but also improves significantly in quality from even just the first to second season. I’d definitely recommend anyway because it’s got some great diversity and tackles a lot of important issues of discrimination. Plus, the Shadowhunters world is really cool (Thank you Cassandra Clare). And Isabelle? Loving, confident, passionate, intelligent, drop-dead gorgeous, complete badass...really, why wouldn’t she be my favorite? Did I mention she fights with a whip that she wears as a fucking bracelet.

2) Kira Yukimura from MTV’s Teen Wolf. I’ve loved Teen Wolf since I finally stopped judging it for its name and started watching way back in 2013.Dropped off for a while, hopped back in again. It’s got it’s fair share of issues, but it also has an abundance of lovable characters, some really cool ideas, and sets this comforting, funny tone (despite the show being super dark) that  I really connected with. I’ve obsessed over several other characters (and ships), but my favorite character always seems to come back to Kira. She’s adorably awkward, incredibly caring, brave and strong-willed, and could kick pretty much anybody’s ass. Not to mention she’s just so pretty. Look at her!!! How could anyone not love her?? Anyway, I will never forgive Jeff for the way he treated her (and Arden). Jeff, if this post gets to you...Come fight me, you coward.

3) Simon Spier from the movie Love, Simon. This movie is near and dear to my heart. It was nice to have a big LGBTQ+ coming-of-age movie that had a happy ending. And it really hits close to home for me. Simon’s situation (having liberal parents and some close friends who likely would take no issue, but still struggling with coming out to them and figuring out his identity) mirrors my own in a way I haven’t really seen elsewhere, and I really appreciated it. I just really relate to the kid. Plus, he’s such a sweet disaster gay, and I love it. 

4) Kara Danvers from The CW’s Supergirl. Because I’m in love with her. Supergirl is great. 10/10 would recommend. The social commentary made by this show alone makes it worth the watch. (I mean, what better way to subtly point out rampant racist and xenophobic arguments than to show them through the persecution of literal aliens?) But beyond that, it’s just generally a great feel-good show, and never fails to make me feel inspired. Her relationship with Alex is gold. I’m endlessly appreciative of how they show her struggles with rage; women are never allowed to be outwardly angry and it’s harmful and unfair. Really, I don’t have proper words to explain all that Kara represents for me. But she makes me feel like I can pull myself out of any dark place, no matter how hopeless it seems. Kara’s loyal, selfless, kind, and determined. She’s powerful and strong (hello, Woman of Steel here), but we see her break down over and over, just like anyone else. And every time she finds a way to pick herself back up. Plus, she totally kicked Superman’s ass that one time. So.

5) Landon Kirby and Josie Saltzman from The CW’s Legacies. I’m cheating because I won’t can’t choose. Legacies is literally a bunch of tiny Vampire Diaries crack fics put together to make one giant crack fic. As my friend once described it, the plot feels a lot like when a kid tells you a story and none of it makes sense by the end. But I still rather enjoyed it? I really loved several of the characters, and the show was lighthearted and fun even if it frustrated me. I love Landon because he’s this completely dorky guy who just manages to be so charming and funny. He always wants to help and his first concern always lies with other people. He just wants to be a hero so badly, and he’s getting there. I wish more male protagonists were selfless and sweet and sensitive without being presented as weak and/or useless (this narrative is old and I’m tired of it). Also he’s a phoenix, and everyone knows phoenixes are cool.

Josie is the definition of “looks like a cinnamon roll but could actually kill you,” but is also very much a cinnamon roll. She’s so sweet and kind and cares so much (too much) for others. I appreciate her codependency issues actually being presented as problematic and being sorted through on screen. I also really appreciate...everything about her. She’s bright and bold and talented, and even though she has no magic of her own, she still makes quite the powerful, badass witch. And she plays with fire, like...a lot (cutest pyromaniac I’ve ever seen).

She'll have setbacks, but eventually take huge steps towards recovery, and become pretty much everyone's favorite character on the show, and the emotional core of the team.

Black Lightning: This is Anissa. Anissa is hella gay. Two episodes in, and you get a sex seen with her and her girlfriend that's hot and sweet. Then, she meets Grace, who is totally into her from the get go. Also, Anissa has superpowers, and gets a superhero origin arc this season, and it is awesome. She's brave, she's bad ass, she's afraid of dead rats, but that isn't going to stop her from kicking ass and taking names and God help you if you get in her way.

This part is kinda rushed, just because of posting on the 13th, and I really didn't know what else to filter in here as filler, (I'm a disaster with filler), so bear with me. These can be standalone stories, if you don't want anything NSFW the first one is for you. If you do, I am passing out a chapter 2, sort of, for the second half of the month's slam. Enjoy, and all the Valentine's bliss to everyone this year. Have a wonderful Valentine's Day. --------- Cat could only try her best to seem nonchalant about it, to seem unaffected. But when you're staring at the most gorgeous eyes in the world, seeming cool and calm becomes a very hard task, so Cat swallowed and took a deep breath, lifting up her wine glass once more, anything to focus on so that she could regain her composure. Because Cat had always known Kara was a stunner, there was no doubt. The girl was a pure catch. But here, in the darkness of this very expensive restaurant, surrounded by nothing other than candlelight, Kara's dark blue eyes glittering in the darkness, damn... Kara was deadly. She was the most beautiful, the prettiest, the wildest... and damn Cat if she wasn't staring at those full lips, those long lashes, that cheeky little crinkle that always formed between her brows when Kara was being shy or otherwise sidestepped a subject. And fuck Cat if she wasn't insanely aroused, and knowing it had nothing to do with the wine, or the man who had just ditched her a few moments prior. Because Kara was stunning, and amazing, and perfect, and... her assistant. ''I feel your sadness Ms. Grant." I just never would have pegged it onto you. But everyone to their own, right? So... was she at all interesting? For the 10 minutes she stuck around?" "Not really. I met her on an internet site. She seemed sweet, so we decided to meet. I don't really have luck when it comes to romance, but I thought maybe since it was Valentine's Day tomorrow, I dunno. Maybe. It didn't really work out. It never seems to, with me." "Well, you're certainly not alone there, Keira. As you can see, I have no luck tonight either. I'm glad that you happened to be at the same restaurant, though. I see you haven't ordered for yourself or your date yet, since your table is clear and you didn't have a menu brought over. I would hate for the full course I have coming here to go to waste, so... would you mind staying? I mean, clearly neither one of us had other plans..." "I..." Kara said softly, glancing around the restaurant. The last thing Catco needed was for Cat to be seen out with her assistant, on the day before Valentine's Day. Any idiot in this city and the next would take no time to decide that Cat was on a potential date before the most celebrated romantic date of the entire year, and with a young, pretty girl half her age. And when they looked at Catco they would see Kara, people took pictures every day of everybody, and it would be so easy to connect the dots. But here Cat was, seemingly uncaring about the blitz and scandal that could ensue from this, and Kara honestly didn't have it in her superpowered bones to refuse the one and only Catherine Grant. So Kara smiled and picked up her menu. "I'd love nothing more, Ms. Grant." ----- "I'm hoping I wasn't a disappointing substitute at dinner last night, Keira. I hope the night didn't end too badly for you afterwards." Cat said softly but with her usual snark, as she browsed through the mail that Kara had brought up with her earlier that morning, already having filtered through it for anything unusual. Kara stood stalk still, shaking her head gently no, and noticed Winn staring at her like the world had ended, or as if she'd suddenly grown a tail or a second head, but trying to be secretive about his glances. ''No, Ms. Grant. I actually had a lot of fun considering how badly it had been earlier. It was nice." "Well, I'm so thrilled." Cat said by her unique way of dismissal of a subject, and gave Kara two envelopes back, and then lifted a third from her pile. "Hmm. It seems I have a gift. For Mizyake. For tonight. For two. I don't usually do this, but I do not have plans tonight, and, well, would you happen to have plans? I am intrigued to go, I haven't been there in a long while, and it's a wonderful place. Their sushi is amazing. Would you be interested?" "Ms. Grant, that place is... incredible. And insanely expensive. Um... are you sure?" "If you are, Keira." "Then... how can I refuse?" "Well, then there we go. See that wasn't so hard. Alright, why don't you drop by the penthouse around 8, and we'll go on over. Wear something sexy, you'll be dancing all night." "I'm not sure about all night..." "I think you can, for some reason. But you never fail to amaze, Ms. Danvers. I'll see you tonight then." And with that, Cat dropped the envelope into Kara's hands and sashayed back into her office. It took Winn about two seconds to stay silent, and then he was instantly asking every question, stunned, watching Kara slip her fingertip under the edge of the envelope and crack it open, pulling out two burgundy red tickets to one of National City's most expensive bars. Kara stared at the tickets, smiling at Winn's endless poetry of questions, and then pushed them back into the envelope gently but quickly, shutting it with a blush. "Kara? Kara? What?" "Um..." "What is going on with Cat? Did you to eat together? At Kitani's? What the hell happened? What about tonight? That's a-" "Yeah." Kara interrupted, awkwardly setting back into her seat and dropping the envelope onto the desk, laughing at he strange situation. "It's a gay bar. I know now." ''So... what the hell happened last night?'' ''I, I had a pre- Valentine's Day dinner with Cat Grant.'' ''Spill.'' Winn said without preamble. ''I... my date went bad. What can I say? It's normal for me. Cat's went sour as well. I saw it happen. And before much time, I went over to talk to her, to apologize for something I didn't do, she looked so sad, and the chair was right there. We started talking, she said she never pegged me to being into girls, and then she offered me to have dinner with her.'' ''And you can't refuse, I know you. Well, that's not so bad. People have dinner with their boss sometimes. You were just trying to give her good company... you're just going to a gay bar with your hot boss on Valentine's Day, that you clearly have a crush on and she told you to dress sexy and that bar caters to some very very explicit things...'' Kara stared at him from beneath long lashes, and Winn stopped his rant, blushing, then smiled and settled back behind his desk, staring at his computer as he nodded. ''Yeah,'' He said curtly, swallowing. ''You're doomed.'' ----- Kara pulled at the hem of her skirt as Cat fixed the collar of her dress in the mirror of her limo, which was for tonight, extremely overdone. But this was Cat. And Cat saw everything. Which was why Kara was trying to hide her Supergirl skirt beneath her tiny, very tight, (thanks a lot, Alex), dress, and trying to make sure no lines would show too much at the knowledge of having her top and the rest of her suit carefully folded at her waist. Now that in and of itself should be award winning, because Cat seemed to know, or suspect, absolutely nothing. ''And we're here.'' Cat said softly, finishing with her dress as the limo pulled up in front of the bar, which was surprisingly empty seeming for Valentine's Day. Cat stepped out when the door was opened, and reached back for Kara's hand. Kara took it tried not to falter or downright faint at the feeling of Cat's delicate hand against hers. Well, fuck. ---- Kara had no choice. No choice but to fight. To be a hero. Her identity be damned, Kara had to do this. If only for Cat. Because despite what anyone would say, what Cat would say, Kara was falling for her boss, and she would do anything for the woman. Even give away her secrets. So Kara did just that. She took her glasses off and dropped them onto the concrete, where they cracked and got the attention of the person holding a gun to Cat's neck, barely allowing her to breathe. The man glanced at Kara, at her broken glasses at her feet, at the tight black dress as he clearly ogled her over, and Kara narrowed her gaze as he laughed. ''Hey, little girl. Don't do something you'll regret, fighting me is useless.'' ''I wouldn't bet on that.'' Kara said sharply, her hands coming to her dress, to the halter tie at her neck, and in a move way too fast for any human to see, Kara's dress was in a ripped pile at her feet, she'd have to apologize to Alex, and her suit was on full, a move that had Cat gaping in stunned silence, breathing forgotten. ''Well, well, well. If it isn't super, girl. How very fascinating. I didn't think Supergirl dated. Much less that she's into girls.'' ''Put the gun down." Kara said sharply, stepping closer, a mere meter away from Cat. She could charge the man as she was and he wouldn't stand a chance, but if she did, the gun could go off or Cat could fall and break something. So close to the railing, she didn't trust her speed to keep Cat safe. "Please. Put the gun down and don't hurt her. Before I hurt you." "Well, isn't that so romantic. The superhero protecting her lover. How very sweet. My heart is aching." "Please, you don't want to hurt her." Kara begged, fisting her hands at her hips to control the rage burning inside her, before she just destroyed him. Because he was hurting Cat, and that meant he wasn't going to see tomorrow, simple as that. "Oh, I think I do. You see, pretty Supergirl, Kitty here was my wife a few years ago. She is a whore. She just wants you as another dent in her bedpost, so she can write all about you in her next magazine, saying that she fucked Supergirl. She did it with me, and her previous husband." The man turned to Cat then, making her meet his eyes, and spoke to her. "Did you know, Catherine? That you were with Supergirl? I watched the E news last night, you, dinner. At Slice. First with some stud, and then this young one takes her place. Is she the next dent in your headboard, then? So you can say you had her?" Kara felt her eyes getting warm, the heat, the burn, building. Ready. "She's half your age, Cat." He continued, roughly pushing Cat against the railing, her phone dropping to the floor and cracking the screen, hanging up her call with James. "Is that really it? Do you need her now? Is human sex not satisfying you anymore? Do you need a super to power you up?" The man looked back at Kara, dropping Cat roughly to the floor with a push, and Kara gritted her teeth, preparing to run straight through him and take him into the concrete wall. And then straight through the one on the other side. "Look at you, I didn't think she'd ever take a super, much less one half her age. She was never a good lay anyways." "For the record, it was incredible." Kara said, using all her willpower to hide her blush, knowing she was lying because nothing had happened yet, but knowing full well that it would at this point. She could smell Cat's arousal, and it was becoming stronger with every passing moment, pushing back against Kara's own and awakening instincts she hadn't felt in a very long time. Having cat this close, clearly interested, it was insanely powerful, more than any drink Cat had so far indulged in. More than dancing with Cat to a slow love song. More than being millimetres away from Cat's lips as they damned at the centre of the floor. More than feeling Cat's hands on her waist, above the low hemline of her tight dress, caressing softly. Kara didn't give herself time to think when he rolled up his sleeves. Was he really intending to fight Supergirl? Didn't he watch the daily headlines? Kara charged for him with a little growl, grabbing at his shoulders, and before he could say a damn word, he was a pile of groaning painful human in the concrete wall of the place, wondering what had happened in the last half a second. Kara had Cat in her arms in the next second, hugging her tightly but gently, aware of a bruised shoulder and now doubt a hip as well, from the way Cat had fallen. "He can't hurt you, I'm here. You're safe with me." Are whispered as she curled fingers into Cat's soft blond curls. "I've got you." "My Supergirl." Cat whispered, her lips coming to Kara's jaw in a soft, shaky kiss, hands tugging at her cape to bring herself closer as she kissed to her neck. "You really are Supergirl." "Yeah," Kara smirked, gently rising at bringing Cat to her feet, keeping her close in her arms to support her as Cat slowly found her bearings. "But I take it you knew that already." "I did. I wasn't scared, because I knew you would be here to take him down. But," Cat said, drawing back from Kara's arms but keeping their hands intertwined anyways. "It's kinda nice to see you admit it." "It's not a surprise then. To see the suit." ''Well, this is a surprise. But, then, I knew it deep inside me, that you were this.'' Cat said to a very unnerved Kara, who was suddenly tugging at the hem of her skirt, the ripped dress at her feet, blue eyes downcast under Cat's snarky tone. ''I'm so sorry Cat. I..." Kara suddenly said, her voice shaky as the reality set in, the knowledge that her secrets were now useless. "I didn't tell you, I couldn't-" ''Uh uh. Nope. I won't have it." Cat interrupted her, grasping Kara's wrist tightly in hers. "You didn't tell me because you have your reasons. I won't ask. That's your business, not mine. But I guess the evening is now ruined. I don't have anything for you to change into..." Cat said, staring her up and down as Kara sadly met her eyes. ''You still want to... stay?'' ''Well, assuming you have taken care of the situation," Cat said, eyeing her ex, who was practically buried in concrete, laughing mirthlessly at the pain he was in, probably wondering why he thought he had a chance. "I feel rather safe with Supergirl on my arm. Who wouldn't? But... well, actually, you are dressed. I guess.'' ''What? No. I can't. Not like this. Not as Supergirl...'' ''Why not...? Everyone has seen you already, and heard his stupid speech. Oh, and what was that, by the way? It was amazing? I'm amazing? Nothing has happened yet." "Am I wrong in thinking ahead, Cat Grant? You always thought me to plan ahead..." "Come on, Supergirl. Let's enjoy our date." ''Well, like this though? The suit... the identity, the... everything.'' ''Tell people it's a role play thing. God knows Mizyake has probably seen much worse. I know I have.'' Kara stared at Cat in pure shock, stunned, and looked at her extended hand, at the open invitation to join Cat, who was clearly forgiving her and offering her a chance that Kara wanted so badly. A chance to be herself. And still be loved. Kara swallowed, not daring to breathe, and tightened her fingers in Cat's, lacing their fingers together again and smiling as she did, meeting Cat's eyes with a sheepish grin as Cat led her back inside, where a waitress that wasn't cleaning up was serving customers that probably also felt safe with Supergirl around, and set them into a corner booth that was now lit with candles instead of lowlights, something Cat thought was rather nice. More authentic. "I can help clean up." Kara said by way of help even as she slid into the booth next to Cat, accepting the menus the woman had brought over from their table from before, and said she'd bring a new course of drinks and meals free of charge. "You've done your job." The waitress said in a smile, clearly meaning it well, and sent a wink to Cat, who had the decency to blush as she got the meaning of that into her head. "And i think you have another one tonight. Would you like another sangria, or something else? The kitchen is unaffected." Kara looked at Cat, the question directed at both of them, and cat spoke up quickly, handing back her menu after a quick perusal, smiling her thanks as the waitress stepped away to collect other orders from the few couples who had decided to stick around. There hadn't really been much damage to the building, and most of the couples of the night seemed to want to stay. Clearly Supergirl was protection enough, and besides, nobody wanted a ruined Valentine's Day dinner. ----- Kara watched as this different waitress, a super pretty girl in a very very low cut dress, placed a tray of shot glasses in front of them, along with a small glass bowl of salt, lined with thin slices of lime, and a new appetizer for them, the same plate of decadent fruit and chocolate as before. The waitress smiled brightly at Kara, and Kara saw Cat smile faintly, then turn to her as another familiar song began in the background. ''The house shots, hmm? I didn't know you do shots, Ms. Grant.'' Kara said, eyeing the tray with what looked like a mix of odd curiosity and trepidation. ''I do when they're good shots. And the tequila here is worth the price.'' Kara shook her head at the ridiculous prices on the menu, and Cat openly stared at her beautiful hair as it splayed out over her shoulder, curling softly together at the ends still. Cat had always loved Kara's hair as Supergirl, and right now, in this relative darkness that was the down low candlelight from the bar to create an ambient and sensual mood, Kara was simply too stunning for words. Everything was there. Her hair, it glinted gold in the light. Her dark eyes, always a bit darker when she was Supergirl because of the authority of the name, now no longer hidden behind those dorky glasses, bold and dark blue, so damn exotic. Her lips, red glossed, barely anything but still there, for the Supergirl name no doubt, and damn, it proved a good choice. Kara was looking like a dream come true. Quite like the hero her named presented. Tonight, Kara was indeed super, stunningly beautiful and bold. And Cat was feeling like she was drowning. And then it crossed Cat's mind that Kara was actually, literally, from another world. She didn't just look it. She was it. That, that alone, was enough to make anyone take a double look at her. Because most often, when you imagined what another world might look like, what aliens were, well, you didn't find yourself imagining somebody like Supergirl. ''Did you have things like this on your world?'' Cat asked softly, anything for distraction. For talk. Because talk was good. It was focusing. And Cat desperately needed to focus before she did something royally stupid in public, even though most were already aware that Cat was very interested in Supergirl. ''Drinks? Hard liquor? Drugs? Bodyshots?'' ''Your earth rituals would have scared the hell out of Krypton...'' Kara said by way of a no, smiling faintly at a memory. ''So a no. I find that rather interesting. Have you ever done shots? At all?'' ''Uh, no.'' ''You're kidding me.'' Cat whispered, stunned. Kara shook her head. ''I've seen my sister do some pretty weird things while we were younger, in school. At bars. I joined them, wanted to fit in, but I never found the will to actually take part in it. It may seem strange, when you think about somebody that's a hero, it would seem I've got quite the life. But I actually don't drink. Rarely do I have a glass of wine, or whiskey or anything. The biggest I do is a beer now and then. Even that, I'm not nuts about.'' ''But, don't you... you know, not get drunk?'' ''Hmm.'' Kara smirked, smiling. ''So you know more than you let on. I actually can, but only off a certain drink that's actually dangerous to humans. I've only had it once, and a shot glass of it had me out for the night. I'm not able to off the human stuff, though. You're right about that.'' ''Well then, let's get some shots in you, baby, since they do nothing to you. I am technically out on a date with you, on Valentine's Day, so you should enjoy it as much as I do.'' Cat said softly, lifting a shot glass full to the brim with tequila and placed it in front of Kara, who eyed it, and Cat, warily. Kara watched as Cat sat back and watched, smiling sweetly as she did so, waiting for Kara to be bold. Kara glanced at the drink once more, then back at Cat, who gestured to the glass in front of her and the tray, and then pursed her lips and took the glass, bringing it to her lips and tipping her head back quickly. Kara swallowed immediately, then coughed once as the oddly sweet flavour skirted down her throat, and the bold alcohol followed. Kara licked her lips, looking up at Cat, and furrowing her brows when Cat tried to hold back a laugh. ''What?'' Kara asked, staring at Cat, who seemed to find this quite funny. ''Strong, isn't it?'' ''Yeah, uh very strong, Ms. Grant.'' ''Kara.'' ''What? Did I do it wrong?'' ''Kara, have you never done a bodyshot? As in, ever?" ''Um... no...'' ''Kara, what do you think the salt and the limes are for? A snack?'' ''I know what it is. I've never done one, but I know what it is.'' Kara scoffed lightly, putting the glass back on the tray as she licked the sweet alcohol off her lips. ''I just... I didn't consider...'' ''That I'd be willing? Well Kara, as much as I'm sure most people in this bar, single of otherwise, wouldn't mind at having Supergirl do a shot off them, I don't think you're that kind of girl. But if you think it isn't blatantly obvious the way you stare at me, and I'm sorry if I was being anything but clear when I gave you those tickets this morning... and kissed you a while ago..." ''It's not that, Ms. Grant. It's just..." ''First, call me Cat, we're not in the office. And, if you want to try, then go ahead, Supergirl.'' Cat said, practically purring her name, and Kara near damn broke apart on the spot, so eager to kiss her boss that it was threatening her powers of control. Cat slipped open her jacket singlehandedly, shrugging it off her shoulders and revealing the thin straps of her dress, exposing a smooth collarbone and neck, pretty golden curls barely hitting her shoulders, making Kara's mouth water as she openly stared, unable to stop herself from raking her gaze up and down appreciatively. Kara had never been so wet in her lifetime, rarely so aroused, never had she wanted someone as much as she wanted Cat right now. It was burning her alive. For a long moment, Kara stared at the glasses in front of her, at Cat, then shrugged sheepishly. ''I've never, actually done one. I know what it is, but I don't want to do something embarrassing. I don't know exactly how to do them.'' Kara blushed at the admission, looking up from staring at her lap when Cat spoke. "Should I show you?" Cat asked, a devilish smile playing on her lips. Kara stammered for words, mouth hanging open, shocked that Cat would even suggest such a thing, the sight of her smiling so wickedly, but no words came, the simple vision of Cat's lips on her skin masking her flush red and rendering her totally speechless. "Oh, Keira. Honestly." Cat said, sliding close on the bench and leaned in, her breath coasting over Kara's ear as she swept beautiful blonde hair past Kara's shoulder. "Stop being so fucking noble..." Cat whispered, nipping at her earlobe, at the gold stud there. "Take. What. You. Want." Cat leaned in, one hand sliding down the front of Kara's suit, down to her belt, grasping it roughly as she placed her lips over Kara's pulse point, sucking softly. Kara fell back against the seat with a whimper, hips coming off the seat when Cat's fingers pressed lower. Cat smirked and brought her other hand up to Kara's now wet kissed skin, to her collarbone, with a few grains of sea salt, and ran the salt covered fingertips down Kara's skin, teasing kisses right after. After a few seconds of slow, wet, torturous kisses, Cat leaned back and took a shot glass off the tray on the table. Kara watched in awe as Cat leaned back and brought the glass to her lips, now red and full from the kisses, and tipped her head back. Cat tipped back to take the shot, disheveled hair falling behind her shoulders, and then loudly clinked the glass onto the tabletop, a laugh bubbling past her throat. Cat met Kara's eyes as the girl stared in shock, cheeks flushed as red as her beautiful burgundy cape, and smiled as she reached for a lime wedge and sucked at it happily, giggling in a totally un-cat-like fashion as she realized the absurdity of what she'd just done. A body shot off the legendary, one and only, Supergirl. Well, damn. --- Kara stared at Cat in shock, frozen immobile, until Cat spoke, her voice dark and rich. Amazing. "Technically, I should kiss that lime from your lips there, Supergirl. But that was damn hot, and you taste so so fine, I'll take that as a score." Kara blushed further, if that was even possible, and Cat couldn't resist a self satisfied smile, feeling rather much like the Cat that had gotten the cream. Maybe she had, and damn her if she didn't want to do that all over again.
