I’m in the process of rereading the 1983 run of New Mutants and I had genuinely forgotten how much of Illyana’s narration is dedicated to her waxing poetry about Kate. It’s “My best friend Kitty…” followed by the most romantic declaration of undying love you’ve ever witnessed.

A lovely Katyana piece I commissioned from @somewillwin !

Ome of my favorite things about this piece is Yana cradling her hand behind Kitty's neck.

Illyana is often portrayed as this brute tank for the team, being very eager to display violence- think chaotic good barbarian- but we have seen a few moments with her when she's not this at all. When she's just soft and small, and allowing herself to be her most vulnerable- and that's when she's with Kitty ❤️ the night before the wedding? Best example 👌

Kitty just brings that out of her. We know Illyana doesn't really like to be touched, and she isn't really one to regularly display her appreciation/affection for others with touch, but Kitty seems to be an exception for her, as we have seen with the failed hug in the snow, and the Resurrection Party.

I think we need more pieces like this where Illyana gets to safely indulge in her inner romantic 🥹🥹🥹❤️❤️❤️
