The Greek historian Herodotus claimed in 500 B.C. that 100,000 people built the Pyramids, and yet modern Egyptologists believe the figure to be more like 20,000 to 30,000 with accompanying support personnel (bakers, physicians, priests, etc.) primarily skilled Egyptian worked on the pyramids only, half of this number was summoned during the summer months when the Nile flooded the surrounding valley and integrated with the permanent labor force.
