The study paints a comprehensive picture of German-Egyptian relations between 1949 and 1965 and also shows the extent to which the Federal Republic’s policy toward the Arab states and toward Israel was determined by actors and interests in which ideological convictions and dispositions from the National Socialist era continued to operate. The high degree of personnel continuity, especially in the Foreign Office, provided the prerequisite for this.

Guilded Wood Ushabtis of Tutankhamun These royal ushabtis 𓆷𓄿𓍯𓃀𓏏𓏭𓀾 “šwbty” in the photo are only two of several other statuettes used to serve the pharaoh 𓉐𓉼 “pr-ˁ3” ‘Great House’ in the afterlife. What is of particular interesting is that they each wears the royal crown of a designated region of kingship. The left wears the white crown 𓌉𓏏𓋑 “ḥḏ.t” of Upper Egypt/Southern 𓇾𓇙 “t3-šmˁ” and the right wears the red crown 𓇋𓈖𓇋𓋔 “ini” of Lower Egypt/North 𓇾𓇊 “t3-mḥw”. Wir kritisieren die (a)-sozialen Netzwerke allein schon wegen ihres Profitstrebens und dass sie alles versuchen, ihre NutzerInnen dazu verleiten wollen, möglichst lange in ihren Apps zu bleiben. Da fällt die App Grindr auf, die ihre VerwenderInnen vor wenigen Tagen warnte:

"Wir sind darauf aufmerksam gemacht worden, dass die ägyptische Polizei aktiv Verhaftungen von Schwulen, Bi- und Trans-Personen vornimmt. Sie verwenden gefälschte Konten und haben auch Konten von echten Community-Mitgliedern übernommen, die bereits verhaftet wurden und deren Telefone beschlagnahmt sind. Bitte sei online und offline besonders vorsichtig – auch bei Konten, die in der Vergangenheit vertrauenswürdig erschienen."

Wie der Spiegel berichtete, häuften sich in den vergangenen Wochen Hinweise, dass die Polizei in Ägypten gezielt Onlineplattformen nutzt, um queere Menschen zu verfolgen, obwohl rechtlich Homosexualität in Ägypten nicht verboten ist. So hatte die Menschenrechtsorganisation Human Rights Watch (HRW) einen Bericht zur Verfolgung von queeren Personen im Nahen Osten und in den Maghreb-Staaten veröffentlicht. Insgesamt werden 45 Fälle aufgelistet, in denen Menschen anhand von Aktivitäten auf Plattformen wie Facebook, Instagram und Grindr verfolgt, gefoltert, öffentlich geoutet oder festgenommen worden seien. Im Gegensatz zu Grindr wird den anderen Apps von HRW vorgeworfen, zu wenig für den Schutz ihrer NutzerInnen zu sorgen. So stellt der Bericht fest, dass die Unternehmen bei Inhalten in arabischer Sprache die Vorgänge im Netz nur unzureichend prüfen.

Der Spiegel stellte auch fest, dass es auch in anderen Ländern auf dem afrikanischen Kontinent mehr Repressionen gegen queere Menschen gebe. In Uganda verabschiedete das Parlament unlängst ein drakonisches Gesetz, das sich gezielt gegen LGBTQIA+-Personen richtet. In Kenia kam es zu einem Mord an einem bekannten Aktivisten.

New Kingdom By the New Kingdom, broad collar necklaces were the most frequently worn pieces of jewelry among the royalty and elite in ancient Egypt. This necklace belonged to one of three foreign wives of Thutmose III.
