Ooh I hadn't taken into consideration much that Jaekyung could have grown up in a rich but unloving environment. His house is so cold and grey and impersonal - which could reflect his childhood. The only splash of color is the pool, which he seemed the most content in. He's also super independent and doesn't appear to have friends, which is sad and might suggest his childhood was strict and heavily controlled, depriving him of making meaningful social bonds early in life. Maybe he doesn't like the designer gifts b/c they have no real personal meaning or love behind them - and maybe that's why he blew a fuse with Dan's gift b/c he just sees it a another empty gift (and maybe he's upset that Dan is now lumped in with all the others who've gotten him designer gifts when he had hope that Dan was different).

if mingwa reflected jaekyungs childhood through his house i would be so pleased cause that is such an interesting detail to add for the readers- and the pool! it would be so interesting to see if swimming was another passion of his that he had as a kid and so that’s why he has a pool now (swimmer jaekyung?!?) and i do heavily agree that no matter the background he definitely grew up in emotionally deficient household- he was definitely abused or neglected to a degree whether that he from his peers or family and that definitely shows through his lack of friendships like u said- that would also explain why he refuses to get close to people and why he keeps dan at an arms length away and gets nastier with him the more entwined their lives get (which is so fucked up but i do sympathize with jaekyung to a degree) and the designer gift with dan theory sounds so incredibly plausible!! i definitely see that jaekyung just hates gifts in general especially expensive ones but u get dan (who he’s in denial about his feelings for) and add him with an expensive gift and u get an ape shit jaekyung- i think he does recognize the work dan put in to get him the gift but due to the fact of his inability to get close to people and his hatred for gifts it “blew a fuse” as u said- and it probably did impact jaekyung to a heavier degree since it is dan- i’m so intrigued see what mingwas answer is because jaekyung definitely is surpressing his feelings for dan and he’s taking it out on him but the reason why is the real question

I'm super ready to learn Jaekyung's back story! I feel like maybe he had a hard time growing up or getting into the MMA scene or something similar that gave him that bad attitude (not that it'll justify it). Like, I wonder if he grew up poor or low-middle class - he seems to really dislike the designer merch. His house, though expensive and likely designed by someone known for interior design, may be the only thing he actually likes b/c it provides him privacy and quiet.

THIS!!!! no cause the lack of backstory regarding Jaekyung is killing me- we definitely should be getting one to explain why he is the way he is(but it doesn’t excuse it like u said)- and i definitley agree that he probably had a hard childhood- i could see him growing up poor or being bullied and ill tempered so he used mma as a way to cope and self protection- and i love your observation regarding his distaste to designer items and gifts in general but him seeming to like his house- maybe i’m just reading ti much into it but this is so interesting cause i believe that this could also be teasing his backstory or how he actually thinks and perceives things. If he indeed grew up poor maybe those designer items reminds him of a time when he didn’t have much? Or if he grew up rich it could be flaunting how he grew up in a materialistic household rather than a loving one?! that would be an interesting concept indeed- there’s so many possibilities- i love hearing everyone’s theories and observations!
