A kind of dichotomy I've put a lot of emphasis on between my HC Galacta and Meta is that they're knights in two different ways - Galacta in a purely professional way and Meta in an idyllic way. My Galacta is the one who has been through war, and strife, and death due to having literally been a military leader on Halcandra, my Meta only worked as a vigilante for most of his time and is a knight only by his personal subscription to knightly ideals.
I just think that's interesting because with Meta's characterization in the anime which is based on Revenge of MK, it's always that he is the former - the battle-hardened gritty knight man who conflicts with the main characters' peaceful idyllic lives. And not to say my Meta is not those, but he is still a idealist more than anything which is what conflicts with Dreamlanders. I guess I picked that up from the fact that he is still more defined by unwavering chivalry and personal honor more than just nihilism in the games. So his problem is not just that he is more skeptical than Dreamlanders but that that skepticism is backed up by strong internal ideals that make him do silly things like try to stage a coup and fly off into mirror dimensions on a whim. If game Meta Knight was actually like anime Meta with the veteran backstory I think you would see him being more pragmatic and patient like he is that universe.
I've given the war-torn backstory to Galacta Knight because as seemingly the ultimate warrior of all time and a reflection of what Meta is trying to be, I think it's fitting he also represents stark realities of knighthood he is unaware of. It also works for Galacta personally because it means I have a lot more to build onto him to morally complicate his decline, but I mainly write that for Meta and his encounter with him at the end of Meta Knightmare Ultra. For the moment when Meta sees himself reflected in something and someone far greater, grander, and more ancient than just him, and afterwards it deeply humbles him. Galacta is to Meta what Meta saw himself as to Dreamland.

So given mirror copies are all rather delicate and are more likely to just shatter/respawn than suffer any lasting injury, how common are medics or healing items to begin with for them? Is first aid beyond an ice pack or a bandaid even much of a thing? loving all the fun theorizing btw!
Tumblr media
There are medics in the Mirror World, though the Mirror GSA doesn't rely on them as often as its lightword counterparts would. They're used more as someone to oversee recovery and provide a space to rest during it, or to treat simple injuries. Healing items can always be used to speed up the process, but the way injuries work for reflections is that they tend to "reset" to their default state with time, rather than heal and scar like a normal wound. (Technically, a broken bone would reset itself, though having a medic properly set it first would lessen how long it takes.) Those on their last life usually pick up the habit of keeping healing items on-hand as well, to save themselves in a pinch.
Healing can get a little finicky when you're right on the shattering threshold, though. Sometimes, the damage is bad enough that it won't heal in time to prevent a shattering (ex: being badly poisoned, too much blood loss, scenarios where the damage is worsening at a rate faster than can be reset). Other times, if you're skilled enough in the principles of magic, you can hold yourself together just long enough to be in the clear. Reflections were created though magical means, if they can grasp the essence of that, it may be enough to cling to their form and survive a hit that should've taken them down (though they would be incredibly vulnerable for the following period of time, the game equivalent of being on their last sliver of health).
Or, they could just be incredibly stubborn, too.

We should popularise writing characters as dichotomies and contradictory to themselves. Especially Galacta Knight.
Make him the most awful, spiteful creature in the galaxy. Make him kind and compassionate. Make him cold and unapproachable. Make him warm and welcoming. Make him harsh. Make him gentle. Make him a feral warrior of destruction. Make him an honourable hero of valour. Make him disregard society's expectations of him. Make him desperate for the approval of others. All at once!

would you mind if i asked you to explain your metadad to us (tumblr doesn't let me use question marks in asks) 👀
Sure! Did that a couple months ago in the AMA, and I'm gonna do it again! >:D
So, starlings, right, their bloodline's outcome is always up in the air. There's no real way to tell which baby belongs to which parent other than their genetical corredor, their DNA can get really messy during development and you know at this point the only trustable source might aswell be the starling's instincts.
Now, as I said in my previous AU rambles, Kirby is only partially Meta's biological son due to Meta's genes getting fucked up by Nightmare's game of Magic the Gathering, but all that happened way before Kirby was born, so how did he turn out to be his child, even if not fully biological?
Let's break this down:
As I said earlier, "their bloodline's outcome is always up in the air.", meaning that not even the parent knows when, or even IF their child will come to be, as they are formed in their own Starship when the time comes. Somewhere, when Meta was at his lowest, a star fragment shone on the ground, and, upon picking it up, he saw it fade away in his palms. That simple gesture was enough to determine Kirby's arrival, and so, he did. Except that, somehow, his genetical corredor was the same as his father's before the corruption. Theorists speculate that the stardust would copy your DNA and purify it for a slight amount of time, but it's still uncertain.

Galacta Knight meets Dark Meta Knight, but he's unaware that Dark Meta Knight is not in fact Meta Knight, so he's confused when Dark Meta Knight stares at him like What. Who is this guy. Why is he looking at me like that. Does he want to fight?
Dark Meta Knight (once he realizes that's Galacta Knight) doesn't realize that Galacta Knight didn't do the same things his mirror version did and is absolutely confused because Why Didn't Anyone Let This Guy Out Sooner.
When Meta Knight finally appears, Galacta Knight has to do a double take because There's Two Of Him??! He can just multiply now??! What??!
Meta Knight has to leave the room because he's trying to keep his mysterious persona, and he can't afford to laugh at one of the coolest guys he knows because of the situation. (He's also slightly offended, considering he and Dark Meta Knight have obvious differences, but he'll let it slide since nobody told Galacta about his mirror counterpart.)

(Just FYI this isn’t meant to be a “How You Should Write Your Kirby Headcanons” post, its just me explaining reasoning for my own and I thought it would be fun to share!!)
So the way I’ve factored KatFL into my timeline of Kirby Ancients Lore is that all the background of the Forgotten Land happened before and/or separately from any events previously explained to be connected to “the Ancients.” I’ve basically read it as the Ancients being the people of Halcandra and Jambandra, and that the people of the Forgotten Land are precursors to them - the Ancients of the Ancients. But I’ve seen a lot of stuff online where people have the time of the FL and the Halandran Ancients mingle, like Galacta and and Elfilis being meeting or sealing Void and other stuff like that. It kind of made me realize, “Wait? Do I even have a concrete reason why I interpreted it like this other than vibe?” But I realized I actually do, and its a meta thing about how these games are written.
In a couple interviews recently Kumazaki and the dev team have stated that the series is entirely designed around gameplay first, which means any world-building and lore comes after the main elements of the game are in place. Every new game is built to be self-contained for the most part with the threads of details and basic character arcs connecting them so that they don’t have to fret over story while planning a fun game. That explanation is where that infamous in my mind “There is no canon timeline” quote came from. -
Tumblr media
- What that probably means is that the plots of each game and therefore a majority of the lore of them is not planned before hand. Kumazaki just has a blueprint for basic aspects like the existence of the Ancients on Halcandra and the magic and science stuff, and then as each game came out he played by ear and built on top of what was done last. Which is really interesting - on top of not wanting to make the games bloated and wanting things to be open to interpretation, this writing style is probably why things are so vague. And with how this quote was in response to being asked if there would be a Zelda style mess of a timeline someday, I think its cool and functional to keep things loose like this so you can prioritize the gameplay and not make overly messy lore.
Anyways, this philosophy is exactly what was used for KatFL. The idea of the Forgotten Land as a whole didn’t start with wanting to create a new place for lore, but with environment and game mechanics. -
Tumblr media
- And specifically what I’m getting at is that the Forgotten Land as a world likely wasn't designed to interweave heavily with previously established stuff about the Ancients. It feels like this was designed to be its own kinda bubble of lore outside of a lot of pre-established stuff, but to still relate back to it to flesh things out. Like they made this whole new ancient civilization deal, and then for lore they stretched back the timeline to plop the whole of this games backstory there, make it relate to pre-established material in fun ways, and then called it there - they built ON TOP of what was there. Which works surprisingly effectively though definitely my first reaction to this was “they just added more ancients kinda out of nowhere lol?” But I mean the way RtDL kinda just came out of nowhere with a whole laundry list of details about a random new ancient people too, this will probably be built on in the background of later games a bit.
Now that’s the dev lore side of it, but I also think its really fun thematically. I talked before about how the ruins of Halcandra and the ruins of the Forgotten Land are opposites of each other despite being related, and I think that dichotomy continues if you think of the latter as being complete pre-history to what we know. Not only are the current inhabitants of the Forgotten Land blissfully ignorant to the technological and magical riches of the planet’s ruins besides what innocent enjoyment they can get out of it now, but no one searching for that even knows the place exist because it is forgotten. Halcandra is the hellish plundered planet still looked back to in legend for its secrets and valuables, but the Forgotten Land was completely untouched by that until Kirby showed up. And Kirby and the Dreamlanders aren’t ones to really bother with all that glory and gold stuff so you know it will be safe with them (until Magolor or Susie come to visit). But I think its fun to think of its isolation as being one of that worlds many bittersweet blessings and beauties. Instead of being like Halcandra where the misery of its inhabitants and the legends spread about it turned the planet into a complete wasteland, its former greatness and industry is being naturally reclaimed by the planet to be recycled for the next inheritors of the land. Instead of continuing a cycle of greed and ruination its one of wonder and discovery and all that.
TL;DR - Kirby games are written with the basic structure of the world in mind but characters, plots, and most environments aren't planned in advance, they just build on top of each other. Which means that the FL was likely not made beforehand to interweave with pre-established Ancients lore, but built to be a self contained chapter of the universe history that just leads into what we know. It works nicely if you want to parallel Halcandra and the Forgotten Land and how one being legend and one being pre-history respectively effects how you interpret them as ruins - either as plundered remains or reclaimed wonders.

A little bit of a fun fact for the Universal Collision universe if anyone's interested (if not then just ignore this):
Since I'm not too sure how I'll be able to add this fact into my fic, I've decided to just let y'all know since it's pretty small.
In the storyline, April's dad, Kirby O'Neil had moved out of the city shortly after he'd been demutated again after his second mutation and after the whole Super Shredder battle. The poor man had basically went:
"I'm tired, I'm done I don't want to be turned into a bat mutant for a third time cuz that's incredibly stressful and I'm honestly at the end of my rope."
So Kirby packed his stuff up once the final battle was over, with the help of his daughter April, and her friends and moved all his stuff out to the farmhouse. Once Kirby was settled into his new home, he'd given April the keys to their old apartment, giving it to her to live in since she was officially eighteen. April of course was sad to see her dad move away from the city, but she understood why he did and wanting to support him, helped him with his moving plans. The father and daughter still call one another frequently and April will go out to visit him as much as possible along with Casey and the turtles.
Kirby now living in the peaceful environment of his new home, spends his days tending to his land and house, feeding the chickens and helping the small garden beside his home to thrive. However he's also added another role to these duties.
Kirby O'Neil is in charge of tending to Splinter's grave by the large tree in the stead of Leo, Raph, Donnie and Mikey.
The scientist does this dutifully, getting rid of weeds and keeping the deceased ninja master's headstone cleaned from nature. Since the boys can't exactly stay with their father's grave all the time due to their responsibilities as protectors of the city as well as not having the emotional strength to leave their home that they were raised in by said rat mutant, Kirby has taken to doing these duties for them. He doesn't mind doing it, in fact he's somewhat grateful in a bittersweet way that he's able to help the Hamato family out in some way. Especially since they'd thrown themselves into the line of fire for him and April over and over again with zero hesitation, the older O'Neil feels that this was the very least that he could do for the boys who sacrificed everything to protect the world.
And when Leo, Raph, Donnie and Mikey make that yearly visit with April and Casey to visit Splinter's grave on the anniversary of his death Kirby makes sure that his home is filled with enough food and that the guest rooms are made so they could have someplace to sleep during their visits. And again Kirby doesn't mind it at all, wanting nothing more than to be there for the boys who were there for his daughter in her time of need.
After all if Splinter could open his home and his family to April when she'd lost everything, then Kirby could do the exact same thing for Leo, Raph, Donnie and Mikey.

A vent about my uncertain writing (distant) future that really doesn't matter much
You know, it's weird whenever I think about what I could write after Meta Knightmare is over (which I'll just say that I know when that ending will come). I mean I could just eek out some more side stuff, some of which I've wanted to make for a while (might even include some Kirby stuff not connected to MKM), and I would like to make YouTube videos of whatever I want instead of just lounging on AO3 forever. But I keep thinking up ideas of fics I could make for other things I love like Steven Universe and especially Angry Birds (definitely have some thoughts for the latter). At the same time though, with what ideas I have for those, I'm worried that it would just be too much like a retread of Meta Knightmare. I might just make another action-tinted dramedy filled with so many crazy AU ideas with varying amounts of canon compliance that it borders on crackfic, yet tons of heart and found family stuff at the same time. Who knows if I'd even move on past the outline format? Granted, I love using those tropes with Kirby, but I'm worried that if I apply it to those other things, then I may as well just be writing Meta Knightmare again but with a new coat of paint like it's a new LEGO game. Not to mention that it feels comfortable with Kirby because not only is there plenty of material in the base games, but the lore is so extensive while leaving plenty of stuff wide open to the point where even flipping fundamental canon on its head feels suprisingly alright. But while Angry Birds has the characters to potentially work in my style, the world and stuff is nowhere near as extensive to have an easy time fitting into something good unless I try to just rip off the movie or maybe go straight for Angry Birds Stella (which I love, but I'd like to give the main flock some love first, especially the found family idea with ALL OF THEM, even the more forgotten ones). Steven Universe, which I haven't even thought that much about, kinda has the opposite problem in that while it has tons of lore, it's largely open and shut in a way that it isn't that fun to imagine changes to it. Not to mention that even if I tried some of that family theme stuff, a lot of that in my existing work is kinda inspired heavily by SU in the first place. It'd be kinda like if a growing rock band with heavy inspiration from the Beatles tried covering the Beatles and trying to make it sound way different from either of them while still respecting the feel of the originals. Good luck with that. (Admittedly though, I did just come up with a Spinel AU idea that absolutely blew my mind, but I'm not so sure if I'll still have the mood for it by the time MKM's over, which won't be for quite a while. I might just throw it out there for someone else to write in the comments if anyone asks.)
Why am I even talking about this? I've got 12 of the 26 chapters of MKMIII left to write with 4 already published! If I'm no more than halfway through my first fanfic project, then maybe I shouldn't be thinking just yet about my next project. Also now Magolor's in the fic and with how much Magolor instantly makes fans flock to any fic, I may as well bask in the hits while I can! A big thank you to my readers, by the way!

What stupid names? Can I know the names?
Ghirahim, Sephiroth, Zant, Kirby... I'm blanking but I know I have so many more.
(shout-outs to Cris!!! love ya buddy xoxo)
Micolash is a perfectly respectable irl name(a Hungarian variation of "Nikolas", iirc), but on him it has such a Vibe but then again I am writing Him. The name is the least outrageous thing here lmao.
In general, I tend to like villains, and villains tend to have "stupid-as-fuck-on-a-real-person" names. They might be perfectly serviceable with titles, but the moment you take them into a more intimate setting it's just... Bro. You're getting called that, on a day-to-day basis?
God, so sorry for blanking out on the more ridiculous names, I know I have more... But I think the grandiosity of the first two should do plenty well.

Void Termina gijinka redesign
woke up and felt like drawing on paper, i drew a zan, fucked up and then decided it was finally time to redesign my void.
i dont tend to use his gijinka very much, in fact i only drew him 3 times, the original, a slight redesign, and this one.
well i suposse i should show it already
Tumblr media
honestly i really like it! :3
tho i used to like the other one too, now i think its abhorrent, so maybe i end up hating this one too overtime. i didnt want to clutter it with too many things so i tried to not go overboard, tho i did struggle as i did not want it to look to plain or simple, im thinking i might change some stuff, like the sleeves, wich i think are okay but they feel way too empty to me rn, but sometimes i just need to let the design grow on me. and i dunno, do something with his legs i guess, also if you are wondering why are they shaped like that, sometimes i prefer doing them like this, and other times i prefer for them to look more normal.
the mask thing had stuck with me for various months so i didnt want to discard it. the 3 lines under the eyes is something i do in all my drawings (unless i forget :p) but here i tried to make them longer, and in fact, im thinking of making them red, 3 in each eye, 6 in total, referencing zero, btw, i only did this sketch, but void's body has more markings like those and such.
the lines in the sleeves around the shoulders dont represent anything, i just added them so the sleeves werent so lacking, but the bar codes like lines at the end of them, are indeed, a reference to Zero two's boss fight's background, and the small oval shape thingyes are too, but instead a reference to the blood vessels in 02 wings. 6 on each sleeve, i thought of adding a 7th one that was more blu-ish (i know this is a sketch without colors) and diamond like, in reference to the titular crystal shards but it didnt look good so i scraped that.
the heart is something that was in the original design, but in a slightly different place, at the end i that downwards line (i dunno how to describe it) , basically, make it look like the heart spear, i saw lots of void gijinkas have heart spears somewhere and i wanted to include one too, and eventually did it like that. i tend to draw inspiration from other gijinkas a lot of the time, since i sometimes struggle with making designs, tho im trying to better at it, and remake some gijinkas so they dont resemble others' so much.
the thing next to the heart is from void termina's phase one, in his titan body, next to their shoulders, in fact, it looks very similar to the one's the three mage sisters wear in their attire's.
the pointy thing in their shoulders wasnt originally planned, but while drawing i accidantally made it pointy there and ended up liking the idea, and having it like a section so to say
i was going to have the hair have the patterns, but remembered this was more especifically void, the grey one (tho here things from all forms are mixed kinda) so his hair has the rainbow cracks, and i ended up using the weird swirly patterns in the clothes, they are really hard to draw but it feels rewarding when getting it right and ends up looking nice.
around the knees, where the clothes end, there are these feathers, purple more especifically, as i wanted to include the mane he has in phase one but i didnt know how due to how i was making the neck area, then, i thought around the shoulders but it didnt look good, before eventually setting on to add them at the end of their clothes.
before i ramble more and more about my void in general, im going to talk about the original gijinka
Tumblr media
yikes.
three years do sure make a difference.
im not gonna complain that much about style, since i wasnt consistent and have gotten beter at drawing and honestly the eyes being so close togheter and taking up like 95% of the face is something i still accidentally do on ocassion but...
just talk about the design, in the remake, i tried making the references a bit more subtle, i think thats mainly my problem with the old gijinka, the references are way too straightforward.
its way too simple to me, yet has too much going on the sleeves, especially the left one god i dont like it, but at least i can support it, for now...the right arm is probably where the reference problem is easier to spot, having a literal drawing of a dark matter, and an eye, and oh yeah i guess dark nebula is there too but who cares about that dude.
honestly i dont know how to explain why i dislike the gijinka now (i used to kinda like it back then) that isnt basically repeating points. also it looks weird, i dunno why (aside from the eyes) but it does, tho mad props to 2022 me for drawing the patterns all over void's hair, it was so unnecessary but i appreciate her efforts.
Now, now, lets stop talking about, that, and talk about my void
i dont think it can be like, my characters interpretation, its more like an AU, but not quite, im not sure so just like, yeah im going to use au since my interpretation of how characters are in canon vs what i do with them, as in fics, drawings, things i think of them, etc differs, especially with void,
ok so, they are capable of shapeshifting, i mean, that kinda canon, but we'll just ignore whats canon or not. i mainly just choose that, aside from making him have and eye on his face from time to time, because i still do like long-haired void, so he sometimes just switches from a hairstyle that resembles kirby, to a longer one (because extremely long haired gods are soooooo)
when their angry, their hair becomes spikier, they can make their fingers longer, pointier, same with every limb they have. it can become more straight when sad, stuff like that, i also like thinking that it kinda looks like it is made of clouds, or like, perpetually under the sea, like, the hair is perpetually floating or moving around, never staying still for long, with small chunks separating and dissapearing like if they were smoke. his face can contort at will and more typical void stuff.
the original gijinka was focused more on the void termina from the story mode, the pink one, while the redesign was more on thinking about all forms he has (including the titan ones) and also after he got purged of negative emotions by kirby, so he sometimes tries to resemble him, hence the hair thing (in fact, the slight redesing i mentioned that was second, was just me making him more like kirby, shorter hair and stuff, basically the note that i had written in the og design) and sometimes i might just call him niru or nil, when refering more especifically to the post-ksa void, because i headcanon he reincarnates and basically gets adopted
sorry for rambling way too much about void, i love talking about this guy so much alongside fecto elfilis (i have way too much to say about the dude, i literally know almost all their attack names from memory)
and also for the lack of posting, tho winter break i gonna end soon and ill have to go back studying and shit, i dont want to.
but uh yeah! Jambuhbye :D

OK OK I'M SO SORRY I DIDN'T WORK MUCH YESTERDAY UHHH ALL I HAVE IS THIS
"Ades..."
she rolled over in their bed, eyes half closed. Her fiancé was sitting at the edge of the mattress, trying to catch his breath as quietly as possible from the shock. He didn't turn around. Instead, clasping the sheets tightly.
"honey..?"
"......."
she sleepily pulled down the covers and threw herself onto him, hugging him from behind, with droopy eyelids and a dopey pout squished between her soft cheeks, her right one now touching his left, the both of them stuck together by a single tear that had dropped from his eye.
"... 's okay.. I'll scare away the nightmares....."
he placed his paw on her hands that had wrapped around his torso. it felt great to be comforted.
