I’ve been thinking about the difference in how Klara and Avery cheat in their final battle against you at the Isle of Armor

At first, I thought it was kind of perplexing that Avery wouldn’t have your Pokémon confused like how Klara has your Pokémon poisoned. You’d think that’d be the same equivalent, right? And it kind of makes Avery’s method of cheating seem a little less severe I guess, because it’s something that’s helping him, not hurting you directly.

But then…I started thinking about it more, how it reflects on the both of them as individuals. Both of them are still using underhanded tactics to win, but they take different approaches to it.

Klara is the kind of person who would drag someone down to step over top them to get where she wants to be. She’s not afraid to push someone to the mud to get ahead, so naturally, an underhanded tactic that would be an outright disadvantage for you, a handicap in battle, would be her method.

Whereas Avery, he’s more of the prideful type. In that, he would want to be the top dog, he wants to be seen as the best around. That insecurity of his from his family’s expectations comes into play a bit, as he will do anything to make himself look awesome and get everyone’s attention on him, get that appreciation he so wants and longs for for his psychic abilities.

Something that would boost his abilities in battle, making himself even stronger, fits him because he wants to be the best, he wants to be Acknowledged as the best. He will do anything to get that sort of attention on him, even if he’s boosting himself up beforehand to get an upper edge on you before the battle even starts. Which is still very unfair.

But it fits perfectly in line with his character, and the way that Klara does it, while arguably cheaper on a gameplay level, fits her just as well!

Klara - Already has acid to dissolve the body.

Avery - Would hide a body for fun, you don't even need to ask.

Gloria and Victor - A sword and a shield respectively. Trust me, Victor doesn't want to be here.

Hop - He's gone as a Wooloo every single year and he's not stopping now

Marnie - She doesn't really dress up for Halloween (other than privately) but if she had to choose she'd probably do something low-effort as to not to stand out. Not exactly sure what though

Bede - Bede "I would rather die than dress up" Lastname, aka you'd have to try damn hard to get him into a costume. He'd go as a Sylveon btw.

Avery - I looked at him without his hat on and I immediately decided he'd go as Link from LoZ
