Character Summary:

Night's father, Monarch Light'fall, died "mysteriously" shortly after Night first became a Trainee and the official Heir. Night is one of the few cats who know the truth, his mother Spider'web killed Light'fall to take his place as Monarch. Night understands that his father was weak, he was too kind and naïve, that's why he had to die, at least that's what his mother says....

Night, to his mother, is her perfect little clone. He is obedient, serious, and strong, he is the perfect Heir to continue Spider's legacy. However Night is far from being Spider's clone, he is very different from his mother, he is not manipulative and has not a lying bone in his body. His mother taught him to be an obedient and avid rule follower, which is funny because Spider is none of those things, but its useful for him to be this way, it makes it so he will follow his mother's every command and do as he is told.

Night deep down under his shell has a personality closer to his father Monarch Light'fall's, he's quiet, awkward and caring though the "caring" part has been forced deep down. Due to his close training with his mother, Night has been very sheltered, he doesn't know how to interact with others and mostly keeps to himself. All Night knows how to do is lead and give commands, he has no clue how to make friends or hold a normal conversation.

“The Shaman of the Outlands”

Nuka, the Dork Dark Shaman :)

Okay, to be serious, this idea is also connected to my oldest and most thoroughly considered Lion King 2 theory, that throughout the whole movie, Nuka expected Kovu to betray the Outsiders. The theory itself is in the caption for this drawing, and there is also an addition here. Interestingly enough, Nuka seems to be quite perceptive, at least when it comes to his family and hopes. Besides the main point of the theory, there is also a curious detail that Nuka's role in the movie involves a lot of foreshadowing, like the part of "My Lullaby" where he basically predicted his own death. His good intuition, no doubt the result of Zira's unpredictable treatment of him, also seems to be the reason why he shows certain skill as a tactician/strategist, which can be seen in the ambush scene. This could have been a great asset for the Outsiders, if Zira actually bothered to listen to him. So, this is what this AU is about.

What would happen if Nuka decided to be more proactive and take matters into his own paws, pretending to have shaman powers and channel spirits to make Zira and Vitani finally listen to him? Would Zira and the other Outsiders actually start taking him seriously after it starts looking like his "powers" can be used to aid their effort to conquer the Pridelands? Perfect tactics developed based on what he can "sense"! This story begins when one day, Nuka deliberately hits his head on a tree branch and pretends to lose consciousness. When he wakes up, he brings Zira and Vitani unbelievable news: he had a vision of Scar, who told him that Kovu will soon betray the Outsiders. An enraged Zira hits Nuka, who pretends to lose consciousness once again. This time, upon waking up, he tells her more: if tomorrow, the day before being sent to the Pridelands, Kovu will say that he's worried about not being able to find Kiara in the flames, it's a sure sign that he'll betray them. Zira calls him ridiculous as Vitani laughs, but it stops being funny when the next day, Kovu says just that.

Vitani becomes concerned, while Zira insists it was just a coincidence. Vitani later talks to Nuka, and he "reveals" that he's always had some vague sense of "spiritual connection", and could tell that something was wrong about Kovu. "It's just your jealousy", says Vitani, but it's clear that she begins to have doubts. After Kovu departs for his mission, Nuka has another "vision", and tells Zira that Simba will accept Kovu into the pride, but won't let him sleep in the cave. Of course, that was to be expected, but it nevertheless looks suspicious when it happens just like Nuka said. Zira is still not convinced, but she can't deny that something is up with Nuka out of anyone making three correct guesses in a row. Next day, Nuka tells Zira that Kovu won't attack Simba in the morning, because Kiara will get in the way. What this wording means, who knows (certainly not Nuka), but once again, Zira's spies bring her the news: Kovu looked like he was about to attack Simba at the waterhole, but Kiara jumped out in front of him out of nowhere. Zira turns to Nuka, who can't believe his luck that his "prediction" turned out to be so literal (he only meant that Kovu likes Kiara and that would stop him!), and demands answers. Trying to regain his composure, Nuka says that he can sense these things, and Scar's spirit gives him clues. Remembering Rafiki and what they know about him, the Outsiders come to the conclusion that hitting his head on a branch "unlocked" Nuka's dormant shaman powers. Shamanism and predictions aren't really Zira's thing, but she can't deny that Rafiki's abilities are the real deal, and the Pridelands having what her pride lacks yet again was making her furious. If her pride had a shaman, that would even out the power imbalance at least a little bit... And there is no more perfect candidate for this role in her pride than Nuka, with his eccentric personality, and not really being good for anything else. She starts thinking about many other times when Nuka seemingly accidentally turned out to be right about something, or even instances where she'd swat at him, and he'd duck just at the right moment, like that one time in a tree.

Scar had chosen Kovu to be his successor, but perhaps that was because he had different plans for his biological son, thinks Zira. She had scoffed at the rumor that Simba could feel Mufasa's presence, thinking that these foolish pridelanders use this story to glorify and mystify their "wonderful" new king. But maybe there is some truth to it, and Nuka can really channel his father Scar? And if Kovu will really turn out to be a traitor like Nuka says, then better safe than sorry. So Zira appoints Nuka the pride's shaman, and Nuka, beside himself with joy, delves into his work in his new shaman residence. ----

Apparently this is also the first time I've drawn Nuka in the Elephant Graveyard, which is strange, because he's strongly associated with this location in the fandom, and his dialogue in the movie also implies that he's been there more than once, most likely starting as a cub, because the hyenas were still there. Of course, this place also "connects" Nuka and Scar. Nuka's staff is the same tree branch that he's hit his head on. For how long will he be able to keep up with the charade? Not sure yet, but it's a mystery why I didn't come up with the idea of a charlatan shaman Nuka earlier, it seems like such an intriguing AU idea now.

OC Test: Pokémon pt1

The gang all gathers together wearing baseball caps with enough pokéballs for everyone to grab one. Theoretically, that are all empty; that is until they grab it and reveal what their companion would be.

Mona:If I get the garage bag Pokémon I’m going to burn this place down to the ground.

Yujin:So it’s not a test of luck, but more of a divine intervention kinda situation.

Aero:Carmine, go fist.

Carmine:Why me?

Aero:Because I don’t need to feel good about what I get just for you to throw out Mew Two or some other bullshit.

Everyone else:Yeah…

Carmine:You all are scared of nothing but I’ll humor you.

She walks up and grabs a single pokéball. Carmine turns her cap backwards before revealing her new companion with an epic throw. Light shoots out and her eyes go wide as a Rapidash appears. Never as she ran so fast to greet friend.

Kovu:Of course….

Carmine:OH MY GOD YOU’RE PERFECT.

Rapidash:*nuzzles her*

Carmine:GUYS, I GOT A FIRE HORSE!

Tenzen:She doesn’t know Pokémon?

Aero:Carmine is an outdoors child and this easily was the best outcome.

Jacquelyn:My turn!

Sienna:This is the part where you out stage us. If it wasn’t going to be her then it will be you.

Jacquelyn:Come now, I’m not that cool.

The kind maiden holds her pokéball with both hands and let’s it open by itself. Large wings form and the air chills as Articuno appears in all its majestic glory.

The Group:ARE YOU SERIOUS!?

Jacquelyn:*petting it* Don’t hate the player. Hate the game.

Sienna:Alright, let’s get this over with. If it’s a cat Pokémon I’m going to be offended.

She took off her hat and tossed it to see where it would fall. She grabbed the pokéball closest to it and sent it flying. The light curved down and grew massive as it took the form of a Steelix. Sienna was speechless as it lowered its head for her to sit on before rising up.

Sienna:…This is the best test ever. Jael, you have to pick one!

Jael:What are the odds I get something as epic as you both?

Tenzen:The more important question is what are the odds of getting the Pokémon that can’t stop bouncing or its heart will stop?

Jael:I hope you get the flamingo just for putting that possibility out there.

Jael uses her semblance to pull a poké right into her hand. She decides to turn her cap around as well then greets her new friend, Metagross!

Veronica:So the entire family is just dangerous? That’s concerning.

Jael:*patting it* I think I’ll call you Ingot.

Aero:Alright Mona, let’s rip off the bandaid. Wanna go before or after me?

Mona:I’ll bite the bullet. There’s like a thousand of these guys. I gotta get something cool.

Tenzen:There are Pokémon shaped like ice cream and keys. The net is wide.

Mona:If I get monkey then I’m thrilled. *picks one*

She spins it on her fingers before flinging it forward. The light that shoots out began to grow big and wide. When it vanished, the thief was left with a massive Snorlax. Mona casually walked up to it, unblinking and silent before bellyflopping onto it.

Mona:I’m chill with this. I’ll name you Beanbag.

Nick:Not gonna lie, kinda jealous.

Aero:I was really worried she was about to get something crazy like Hoopa. Crisis averted. Let’s see if I get a flying buddy.

Aero runs over and scoops a pokéball up with his hat. He tosses it up and left utterly surprised as shiny Cofagrigus appeared in front of him.

Kovu:Interesting how you got the creepiest one yet.

Aero:Keep talking like that and you’re going in this thing. I gotta admit though, this is pretty cool.

Cofagrigus: *gives him hat*

Aero:I love them.

Kovu:My turn.

Carmine:I will make fun of you if it’s bad.

Aero:Same.

Mona:Watch this bitch get a Sparrow.

Kovu:All of you suck.

Kovu grabs a pokéball at random and tosses it casually. Both himself and his friends were surprised when a Shaymin emerged! The cute little hedgehog crawled to Kovu where he promptly put it on top his head.

Carmine:Context?

Aero:He got a mythical Pokémon with good potential…

Carmine:I respect that. A fitting duo.

Kovu:You think I have potential?

Carmine:I said what I said.

Summer:I kinda just wanna play theres. Let’s take a break!

Nick:Wait! I want my turn. *walking*

Eliza:Nick I swear to god, you better get a regular Pokémon.

Nick:What are you afraid of? It’s not up to me.

Valerie:Get Vaporieon.

Nick:How dare you.

Summer:Get ditto and prove you’re the copy of me.

Veronica:Not to side with them but you better set the bar low. You win way too much at these things.

Sparrow:Get a Muk!

Nick ignores his friends and he picks up a pokéball as if he’s not worried. Turning his cap around, he throws the pokéball straight up. The sky dims a little as the white light turns golden before bursting out overhead, leaving Jirachi to shine down on the boy. Nick turns to hlhis group of naysayers to give the most satisfying smirk in his life.

Nick:Can’t stop, won’t stop.

Honestly shoutout to TLG for giving Vitani an actual ending. In Simba's Pride she just disappears after the climax which feels so hollow as she was the first of Zira's forces to defect after Kovu. TLG expanded on that and her character in a lovely way. The show is far from perfect but I'm glad we at least got a great Vitani sendoff.
