I think the hardest part of being trans is the uncertainty.
Like, there's a new band I kind of like. They've only released a few songs, but I like those songs, and I like the bands style, so I followed them on Instagram to keep up with them. Neither member of the band is openly queer but many of their (young) fans talk about how their dynamic and their music fits with a popular gay ship. The band has really leaned into it and made content to appeal to that, so I feel confident in assuming they're decently gay friendly, at least. But said popular ship is from Harry Potter, so I don't feel at all confident that they're trans friendly. They haven't said or done anything specifically transphobic, but they haven't specifically said anything in support of trans people either. So it creates that uncertainty. Am I safe in this fan space? Am I wanted? Will I be accepted?
Even in queer spaces, it's the same story. I've been in queer spaces that claimed to be trans friendly. They have name tags and pronoun stickers and pins available to everyone, a trans flag on the wall. But most of the staff won't try to use the correct pronouns. And trans men aren't welcome in the queer men's group they run. And when they invite a group to do free haircuts, they won't cut trans men's hair because they "don't do women's haircuts."
It's like, I can go to pride with a trans flag and five different he/him buttons pinned to my chest, and I'll still get misgendered to my face.
Every time you want to be a part of something, you have to ask yourself
-do they accept trans people
-if so, is that acceptance limited and conditional
-do they accept trans people as a part of the group or do they allow trans people to be there but not a part of it, is it a "you can tag along but you're not one of us" situation. A "trans people can join but gay trans men are not "real" gay men and trans lesbians are not "real" lesbians" situation.
Every fucking thing is uncertain.
The tweet has long been deleted, but years ago, Laura Jane Grace tweeted something to the effect of 'do you think I don't know that everyone I admire would hate me'. And that it. That's the shape of it. You just have to live with the idea that there's a good chance anyone you look up to, would hate you.
And that eats at you.
It really does.

idk why we’re all laura posting but this is my contribution.
[image description: two tweets by laura jane grace. the first reads. “If a fascist dystopian nightmare scenario were to ever actually play out where Trans people were rounded up for some kind of imprisonment or extermination, I guarantee there would be a handful of trans people that would put names on a list.” The second continues, “you can for sure sniff some of the boot lickers by now.” /end ID]

What I think is most apparent from the reaction to Laura Jane Grace making fun of fall out boy fans in a harmless tweet is that a lot of people in these “fandom” heavy bands are not equipped to handle normal forms of music criticism. Fall out boy is one of the most famous rock bands in the world right now, so criticism is not only to be expected, it’s almost meaningless. At the end of the day fall out boy “won”. They’re rich and famous and there’s nothing wrong with that so why should you, a fan, care? I think it’s more telling of the unhealthy relationship many people build with these musicians where they form their personality so much around this music that criticism based around liking it becomes a personal attack. It’s okay to disagree on music especially when that disagreement is voiced via a 1 sentence tweet.

what did Laura Jane Grace say bout fall out boy?
she had to delete a lot of the tweets because fob fans were sending her death threats (+one person claiming pete wentz is "more queer" than her and has experienced more oppression for being queer....... lol.) but in short she just fucking hates them for being posers lmao

ok see rius question. i always see tumblr fans make gender envy jokes & stuff, but are all of the guys actually supportive of trans rights & such? i don't really keep up w them, the tour ending has just dragged a lot of content thru my dash & i'm curious <3
Oh anon...I don't even know where to start. even if Gerard wasn't...idk. Cisn't... (which is generally the consensus, based on a lot of things they've said including the infamous "i have always preferred he/they" tweet) MCR are hugely supportive of their trans fanbase! I could make a really long post here but yeah, even back when trans issues were just first starting to hit the mainstream Gerard would go on long rambling affectionate speeches about the community at his solo shows. Frank is definitely someone who supports trans artists, I think at least 3 of the opening acts he helped get booked for MCR's tour are fronted by trans women LOL...not to mention his embrace of how many transmasc people love him, he made a very sweet tweet (i think it was on TDOV also?) about how fans have always requested binders as merch and he wants to do it the right way so he asked for advice on suppliers and such. what else umm...Ray dedicated his solo album to Leelah Alcorn, Frank is close pals with Laura Jane Grace which is more just cute than anything but I thought I'd mention it since he was clearly a big Against Me fan before she transitioned too, the band is also all very aware that their fanbase is heavily trans/GNC/nonbinary....Gerard has spoken on it a lot, and whenever trans fans meet them it sounds like they always have a good experience. there was at least once instance of a fan meeting them during the european tour and giving them "trans rights" bracelets and Ray and Frank both appeared onstage wearing them the next day, which I thought was extra cute because it's not the type of thing you can see onstage at all..so it was just a personal thing :). that's also how it felt seeing Gerard ask a fan this tour to throw a trans flag onstage so he could dance with it for a second. anyways yeah tl;dr MCR is a very trans friendly band for multiple reasons haha

(Picture with my tweet)
Tumblr media
For those who aren't on ska twitter, or really in the ska scene, Freelance Music Journalist, Aaron Carnes hosts a podcast based on topics from his ska punk / skacore history book. His mission was as the name of the book says to give readers (mostly readers w/ negative or less positive opinions on ska and the ska punk / skacore genres a different perspective. Aaron now finished with that book has now converted those ideas into a podcast
(tweet from @megainfinityband)

This podcast has interview anyone generally whos been connected to the ska scene in one way or another. Episodes including, Anthony Fantano, Laura Jane Grace of Against Me, Reade Wolcott of We are the Union, Eichlers, Jer Hunter of Skatune Network and We are the Union, Barry Johnson of Joyce Manor, and Now one of my favorite scene bands Ice Nine Kills.
Ice nine kills minus the demos, and a local tv performance and some collabs hasnt made a ska record since the band was in high school.
