#les miserables a girl named cosette

I liked the movie Wonka and there are a LOT of subtle and not-so-subtle references to other musicals through it. Here are a list of the ones I recognized. 1. Wonka's hopeful arrival in the big city is like an inverted version of "No place like London" from Sweeney Todd in that it's joyous and hopeful despite people waiting to cheat him. It's a bit like Fun City from the never released Man who fell to Earth musical but sung by the would-be target. 2. Mrs. Scrubbit's name is a punny play on Mrs. Lovett from Sweeney Toodd. 3. Mrs. Scrubbit and Bleacher are very easily equatable to the Thenardiers from Les Miserables, especially when you see how they trump up how much Wonka owes them. 4. Noodle is a cross between Cosette from Les Miserables and Little Orphan Annie. 5. When Wonka gets bribed with money to free his friends from indentured servitude after his shop is wrecked this is very similar to Jack being bribed in Newsies. 6. Wonka showing up at the window to break out Noodle was similar to Jack wanting to rescue Crutchie in Newsies. 7. Wonka going back after the bribe to save his friends is also like Jack from Les Miserables. 8. The indentured servitude contracts remind me of the one from Pirates of Penzance in how ridiculously long they are. 9. The "Scrub Scrub" song is a lot like A Hard Knock Life from Annie. 10. The Oompa Loompa Song and Pure Imagination (Though with different words) are from the 1971 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. 11. Noodle's book obsession could be a little nod to Belle in Beauty and the Beast. 12. Noodle's dream of her mother is a lot like Cosette's Castle on a Cloud only about a mother in a home full of books. 13. The Tango of "Do you have a Sweet Tooth?" is very similar to the modified version of Roxanne for Moulin Rouge in that it's persuading a character and done to the tune of a catchy tango. 14. Bonus: All the names are blunt references to what the characters actually are. Noodle is the smart girl. Abacus Crunch is an accountant (an abacus is an ancient adding device and crunching the numbers is a term for doing taxes and figuring out what's owed or what you can keep). A woman named "Bell" worked as a telephone operator, and Scrubbit and Bleacher own a laundry cleaning service. There are many other blunt as a hammer name clues. That isn't quite a musical thing but that is a thing from J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter franchise. That's why I put that in as a bonus.

as someone who loves classic literature, i really love how much it feels like each character in soulcalibur's story is influenced by the literature from the culture they come from. the japanese characters, especially mitsurugi and yoshimitsu, were probably the ones writers spent the most care with but i LOVE how much you see it in the european characters too. sophitia, cassandra, and aeon are all characters that feel like they were plucked out of a greek tragedy, and you can see so many echos of storybeats that many greek tragedies had. i guess its not hard to feel like that when the greek gods are so intertwined with their stories but still, it honestly feels so well thought out. to avoid being repetitive, im linking an in depth analysis from @laikaflash that talks about this right here
but i think my favorite example of this is raphael and amy tbh, but mostly raphael. as someone who so enjoys classic french literature, i cant help but see bits and pieces from the different stories i love laced throughout raphaels story. the fact that he was the head of his house at the beginning of his story and is in good standing with the king, but is then framed for conspiracy and has his life ruined, reminds me so much of what happened to edmond dantes from the counte of monte cristo. dantes had a much more humble beginning than raphael but still, that undeserved fall from grace at the hands of someone who was jealous of him, forcing him to be on the run from the law, i see that parallel.
then we have the fact that he adopted a little orphan girl while on the run from the law, and then was able to lie his way back to the top with the hopes of raising and protecting her, which makes me think of jean valjean and cosette from les miserables.
but i think the thing that gets me so excited thinking about this is that they chose not to give these storybeats to a character who is meant to be viewed as heroic, they gave them to someone who is objectively a terrible person. they flipped these stories from classic french literature on their heads, which i think makes it very exciting to try and speculate where his story will go from here because he as a person is such a departure from dantes or from jean valjean. it also makes me wonder what else they will take inspiration from for him going forward (minus the dracula stuff because that all feels more aesthetic than anything. then again ive never read bram stokers dracula so i could just not know what im talking about)
anyway im curious to know which other characters take inspiration from their country's classic literature. i know siegfried is literally named after a knight from legend, i know groh is supposed to be based on the knights of the round table, xiba is based on the monkey king from journey to the west, im not sure if kilik is either. but still, i would love to know about talim, about the koreans, xianghua, honestly everyone on the roster

If you were to put in a production here in Redwood, what would it be and who would you cast in it?
Are you TRYING to torment me?
For sheer size and number of principals I'd go with Les Miserables because I don't want to inflict Cats on us, Oliver! requires too many children, and people might get touchy about doing Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat (although I'd be INCREDIBLE in the lead but anyhow).
Here's the breakdown. Don't get upset if your character is unsavoury! Any named role is A ROLE and not just ensemble/swing!!
Jean Valjean - Ermano Javert - Zack The Bishop (covers for Valjean) - Lucien Farmer & Wife (refuse to help Valjean) - Orion & Leigh Fantine - ME (my mom sang this part!) Foreman (at the factory) - Frank Pimp - Mike Bamatabois (a dandy who tries to buy Fantine) - Tamir Factory/Lovely Ladies (factory girls/prostitutes) - Leigh, Hazel, Athena, Drea Factory Girl (who reads out the letter) - Mayra Crone (buys hair) - Vivienne Thenardier - Isaac Madame Thenardier - Jimmy Marius - Clint Cosette - Beth Eponine - Val Enjolras - Alden Grantaire - Harry Students/Thenardier Gang - Ares, Cat, Nicki, Colin, Theo Gavroche - Lucy French Soldier (reads out terms of surrender) - David Mothers (after the student massacre): Renee, Adriana
You people should start building me the barricades immediately

K, so like enjroals from Les miserables (lol can't spell his name) x m reader where the reader is almost like a guardian to gravohce and enjroals thinks reader is cute and gets nervous around reader and gravhoce sets them up ❤️
A Charming Young Man
(Pt. 1)
Enjolras(Joseph Quinn) x Male! Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Jean Valjean attempts to question a friend of Marius in order to find out more information, but he finds himself holding a rather important secret; one that could cost Enjolras his head.
Warnings: teasing, threats of violence to a child (jokingly, brief,) mentions of homophobia, worries of homophobia, Gavroche (he needs to be his own warning,) bold Enjolras, determined Enjolras, just Enjolras. That's it, Enjolras is the warning, Jean Valjean being a dad, protective Jean Valjean, blackmailing, not proofread, possible spoilers but not really? Cliffhanger (I'm sorry)
(Author's Note:) I wasn't expecting this to be as long as it was but rest assured there will still be a part II.
It was no secret that almost every night, Marius could be seen in the tavern with his friends. One of those friends being Enjolras, who normally sat in a corner and read his books while he drank and minded his own business. If he was drunk and revved up, he'd preach about his revolution. Otherwise, Jean Valjean wouldn't have noticed that the young man was there. He watched as Marius attempted to pull him out of his seat, convince him to look at all the girls so that he wasn't alone. The rest of the group was dragging Marius along, so Marius tried bringing Enjolras down with him. He got a prompt "I've got better things to do," before the brunette simply continued the book that he'd been entranced in for the past three hours. Jean gave a small scoff at the man that had been trying to seduce his Cosette. Did he really want his daughter to fall for a man who remained unfaithful? Who looked at other common women?
Shaking his head, the older man stood and shook his head before setting down the franks needed to pay for his drinks. He was about to make his way across the tavern, speak to the man who had caught his daughter's attention. Well, that's what he would have done if he had not been pushed aside by a boy who was less than half his height, a mess of unruly blonde curls bouncing as he jumped away. Jean watched in shock before a voice broke out across the tavern, loud enough for all the patrons to hear.
"GAVROCHE!" You had pushed your way through the sea of people, apologizing to everyone on the way and Jean barely caught the small 'I'm so sorry' that you muttered before pushing him out of the way.
The small boy slid under the table of the reading man, effectively bumping into it and knocking over the entire tankard of beer that had been sitting next to his book.
Effectively drenching it.
Enjolras jumped up, trying to swipe his book out of the way in time before it was destroyed and he nearly knocked down the candelabra in the process. When his brown eyes landed on the ink letters slowly bleeding into one another, fury consumed him. You rushed up to the table and gently set a hand on his arm before yanking Gavroche out of his hiding spot. "I'm so sorry Enjolras, I'm sorry- I'll get you a new drink..." you turned to Gavroche and gave him your signature look of disappointment, the child giving a faux wince before laughing. "You'll be getting the extra chores tonight, you hear me? You even gonna apologize to the poor man for ruining his things and spilling his drink?"
"He's destroyed my book, look at it!" Enjolras gave a look of disbelief, a pout before his gaze snapped to Gavroche. "Best be lucky I don't whap you on the head for that!" He shook his head, Gavroche mimicking the action with a laugh and Enjolras flopped back down into his seat in defeat. "'S ruined. My book's ruined. Look what you did, you little urchin!" He hung the book up like a proud flag for everyone to see, except now it was a token of how upset Enjolras was.
"What's the title, I bet we could find a merchant selling another print of it, yeah?" Your voice sounded hopeful and the tone made Enjolras glance at you with an unreadable expression, albeit a spark in his eyes. He showed you the title, the page a bit stained but it was still legible and you gave him a small smile when you read it. "Right then, we can go looking for it tomorrow, whaddya say?" He nodded and fidgeted with his hands.
"Sounds good, yeah... yeah." He smiled up at you, visibly calmer than he was but when Gavroche laughed, he gave a small glare at the child. "I'll still get you on the head, 'f ya keep that up." His tone was lighthearted but you knew that Gavroche and Enjolras were close enough, he would give him a whap if necessary.
Jean made his way up to the three, curiosity burning at him. "He yours?" He looked at you while pointing at Gavroche and you quickly shook your head.
"Oh, no... no. Picked him up off the street when he was tiny." The older man nodded in response before looking at Enjolras.
"Let me buy you a drink." You smiled warmly at your friend before glancing at the older man, Enjolras also offering a smile.
"Can't turn down a free drink. I'll take you up on that I think."
With one look to the barkeep, the drink was already being poured and you set a hand on Enjolras's arm.
"I'll get him home, see ya in a few?"
"Definitely. I'll be here." He offered a smile as you walked off with Gavroche in tow by his ear, the small boy griping about how it hurts.
Seizing the opportunity of talking to Marius's friend alone, Jean took it.
"So, you come here a lot?"
Enjolras glanced at him, his brown eyes holding respect for the older brunette and he nods a bit. "'S a good place to read. It's loud but the atmosphere is nice. Good to be around when the mates show up." Jean nodded to his words, his head tilting.
"Who all's the mates you're talkin' 'bout?" The younger man scratched the scruff of his chin, his other hand flailing in an animated matter before he pulled off the stuffy red scarf around his neck.
"Ah, y'know... Marius, Courfeyrac, (Y/n) the lad you just-"
"So you're a friend of Marius?" At the act of being interrupted, Enjolras froze and his brows furrowed while his lips pressed into a thin line. Hand still raised animatedly, he lowered it down onto the table slowly. "Yeah what about 'im?" Suspicion crawled up the back of his neck as he further lowered his hands so that they rested on his thighs.
"What can you tell me about him?" The air around them had suddenly become tense, Enjolras giving a firm stare as Jean looked at him with the strictness that only a father's gaze could hold.
"Nothing. You best be on your way 'cause you won't hear anythin' from me."
"Oh I won't, will I?" The atmosphere had suddenly become tense and hostile, both men guarded. "What if I follow the lad home? Your little man wrangling the urchin around?" Enjolras straightened up, anger bursting through every seam in his body.
"Y'think it's smart to be going around threatening people?" Within seconds, Enjolras had his pistol in his hand with the barrel pressed directly to Jean's chest and he had a foot resting on the table he was leaned over. Jean was shocked at suddenly being cornered, realizing how severely he underestimated the young man's ability to protect himself. Jean hadn't even noticed the gun.
"Say that again, yeah?"
Jean let out a low sigh as he looked away from those brown eyes that were furiously locked onto him. He'd hit a nerve and he knew it. He raised his hands in surrender.
"Y'got me. I won't do anything, just put the gun down and we can talk this out." The patrons of the tavern had their attention on the two. Enjolras got revved up easily but he wasn't one to draw his gun easily. He stared at Jean for a long moment, as if debating his options internally.
Finally, Enjolras huffed and slid his pistol back into it's rightful place in it's holster. "Lucky man you are that I'm not tryin'ta get the floor dirty."
"How considerate. I'll keep that in mind for future reference." The sarcasm was evident in his voice as he spoke and without further warning, Enjolras was up on the table crouched in front of the older man.
"Well then, ask ye questions. 'For I change my mind."
Jean's brows raised a bit in surprise but didn't hesitate to begin. "Well firstly I'd like to know your name?"
"You first, mate." There was no room for debate but Jean didn't mind how straight to the point the man was.
"Ultime Fauchelevent."
"That's a mouthful." He paused and gave Jean a once over before offering his hand which the older man shook. "Enjolras," was all he offered.
"Pleasure. Now, what can you tell me about Marius?"
"Whaddya want to know?"
More than an hour had passed where Jean asked Enjolras anything and everything he could about Marius. He quickly found out that Enjolras was not above lying about his friend, or even flat out denying certain pieces of information. After the hour and a half mark, Jean began to realize that he'd quite literally learned almost nothing about Marius other than that Enjolras believed him to be a noble man with a good heart. That Enjolras loved him but he didn't quite like him.
At the moment, Enjolras had switched from his crouched position and resorted to slouching over the edge of the table with his legs hanging off the side.
"I've spent so much time asking about Marius, I didn't even ask about you monsieur. Mind telling me about yourself?"
"Nothing to tell, 'specially to a complete stranger such as yourself."
"How about the lad? Anything to say about him?" There was almost a visible spark in Enjolras's eyes before he quickly shifted to a glare, as if to ask if Jean was really stooping that low. At his silence, Jean tilted his head, suspicious if anything else. "What, you fancy him or something?" He asked with sarcasm, but the look he received spoke volumes. At his continued silence, Jean's smile dropped. "Well shit."

Here’s a review of Vol. 2 of Les Misérables, the version published by West & Johnson (aka Confederate Les Misérables.) This review is wild. They thought that the convents digression was good but the Waterloo digression was too much. They are mad that Jean Valjean is allegedly in love with Cosette. They seem to think that Javert is too heavy-handed a character.
Source: the Richmond Enquirer, 10 July 1863
Les Miserables — Cosette The second part of this voluminous work, of Mr. Victor Hugo has been reprinted by Messrs. West & Johnston [sic].
It is a continuation of "Fantine and is itself to be continued in three other parts,  — We think it better and more artistic than Fantine; full of powerful descriptions, and thoughts which are sometimes noble and sometimes monstrous, often original, more often extravagant; but generally expressed with a rare and impassioned eloquence.
We have here a continuation of the fortunes of the escaped convict, Jean Valjean, and of the little Cosette, a child now of eight years, the daughter of Fantine. [. . .I’ll leave out their plot summary excepting a few points] This man, as before, proves himself the only perfect and truly angelic character in the book. [. . .what, is Myriel not angelic?. . .]
But once more he is recognized by the inevitable police officer, Javert, that preternaturally hateful impersonation of “Society.” Once more “human society repels him” — “human society howls upon his track,” &c. — [. . .]
Next comes the escape from the Convent — Cosette in a basket, Valjean in a coffin; in which coffin he is absolutely lowered into a grave, and shovels full of earth (to the number of four) thrown upon him, after which he is disinterred. There is a very long and interesting description of this Convent, one of the strictest in the world, named of the “Perpetual Adoration." [. . .]
Now one of M. Victor Hugo's monstrous imaginations is to make this old man of fifty-five fall in love with the little girl of eight years old. "It is something," he says, "very incomprehensible, and very sweet, this grand and strange emotion of a heart in its first love. Poor old heart, so young!" We doubt that it is sweet; but admit that it is incomprehensible.
More than one-fourth of this volume is occupied, strangely enough, with a minute narrative of the battle of Waterloo, which was fought eight years before the date of the story. This description is eloquent, after the style of eloquence of M. Victor Hugo — a style which we candidly avow we do not affect. For example, [. . .]: "But what is that to the Infinite ? All this tempest, this cloud, tins war, then this peace. All this darkness, disturb not for a moment the light of that ‘Infinite Eye,’ before which the least of insects leaping from one blade of grass to another, equals the eagle flying from spire to spire, among the towers of Notre-Dame."
Eloquent, but absurd; because nobody ever said that a battle disturbs the Infinite Eye; and further because, since Notre Dame was first built, a thousand years ago, no eagle ever flew amongst its towers.
Now I have to break to show why I cannot transcribe the following portion:
Tumblr media
Resuming:
We are decidedly of the opinion that Waterloo was not fought altogether to this end; and M. Hugo might as reasonably say the Saviour was crucified in order that an old woman might sell an ebony crucific [sic], for twelve sous, in the Place du Pantheon, on Easter Sunday, 1863.
Yet, with all this, Cosette is a most striking and remarkable production, and will not only engage but enchain attention.
The other three parts are promised in the month of August.

Les Miserables 1948 pt 2 (a) : In Which Absolutely Nothing Will Be Explained
My previous review posts here: 1a and 1b
Warning that those posts, like this post, contain spoilers. Yes even if you've read Les Miserables. Especially if you've read Les Miserables. I really strongly advise not reading this post if you think you're gonna see this version soon because going in unspoilered was a treat.
That said, let's roll!!
The second half starts with the Amis!! They're all printing Illegal Materials and discussing the latest censorship laws!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: a group of photos of the Amis, young-ish men in surprisingly good 1830s outfits, reading a paper that offers "1,000 francs to anyone that will provide information likely to lead to the identification or arrest of the makers, holders, or disseminators of revolutionary newspapers, posters, pamphlets." /end ID]
Credit where credit's more than due: this is a fantastic way of introducing a large group of new characters and a new setting (wider Paris)! As they discuss their work, we learn more about them, their goals, and Parisian politics. Elegant and efficient! genuinely , I love this approach and wish more adaptations would do something like it
Unfortunately, while they do showcase several people doing various tasks, they don't name all of them--a shame, when it would have been so easy! But we do get to meet
Enjolras and Marius, the older leaders of the group! Here, Marius (left) is trying to get Enjolras (on the right) to leave Paris for his own safety (it does not work):
Tumblr media
[ID: Marius tells Enjolras "And we must think, Enjolras, how you can get away from Paris for some time." /end ID] Courfeyrac, a younger, clothes-focused revolutionary, and of course Gavroche:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: Enjolras brings Courfeyrac, a younger revolutionary, "Courfeyrac, distribute them in the foyer of the opera and at the Jackie club." Courfeyrac responds: "But I can't go like this, I must change my clothes. " Enjolras: "Mm...Do as you will." Gavroche, a kid about 10-12ish, watches this conversation./end ID] and of course, everyone's favorite
tumblr's star of this show
GRANTAIRE!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: Closeup on Grantaire! a short, loudly dressed... 65 year old man?? saying " I know by heart the whole Constitution of the Year 2 ! "/ end ID ]] I bet you do, 48! Grantaire! I bet you were there!
Tumblr media
[ID: Grantaire brags that "I can talk about it for six consecutive hours. I've been timed. " while Gavroche prepares to burst a paper bag behind him. /end ID]
(Gavroche's relationship with this Grantaire so far delights me, in that it's mostly based on pranking him)
Were you ready?? I was not ready!!!
Anyway then the police break in and there's a SHOOTOUT and Marius escapes and runs through the streets of Paris and Cosette lets him into her and Valjean's house!! Marius flirts with Cosette by guessing that her favorite author is ANDRE CHENIER!! Valjean sends Marius some mixed messages by hiding him from the cops and then telling Marius to go away and then going to Marius' apartment to tell him to never try to see Cosette again and frankly, dude, a guy could think you were following him!
Oh yeah Marius' apartment is an inn run by the Thenardiers. Eponine is the general serving-girl there and he's just as conscious and careful of her feelings as he is in the book:
Tumblr media
fckin OUCH
We also find out that Marius is living in the Thenardier's new inn on CREDIT?? Thenardier is just...bankrolling him?? WHY (this will not be explained so just forget it)
Marius goes to meet Cosette (whose dresses, in keeping with this show, are Pretty Darn Good!)
Tumblr media
--and I have to say I think this show does a good job (so far!) with Valjean and Cosette's relationship! Yes, he's overprotective and keeps them too isolated-- but he does it out of concern rather than control, and she's not afraid of him, she trusts him and worries about hurting him, not being hurt by him, and he's always concerned for her safety and happiness above all. As she tells Marius in this scene, she never even noticed how isolated she was before-- she's been happy! I think they really get some of that Gothic haunted element around this house and Cosette's life , and it's great!
Marius leaves for the Revolution, telling Cosette to not worry for him (!) and Cosette goes inside and gets told there's a man waiting for her ??
Tumblr media
[ID: Toussaint tells Cosette "He's in the hall, he was very insistent. He says his name is Baron Thenard." /end ID]
Thenardier tries to scam Cosette by pretending to be an old friend of her mom's
Tumblr media
And it's actually a fantastic scene? Cosette reveals that she knows nothing of her past, and we can see how that's made her vulnerable; and we learn how desperate she is to learn more about the mother she can't remember.
I really like this move to make Thenardier Cosette's villain/nemesis, the haunt from her past! it makes so much sense , given...everything else up to this point...and gives her a chance for some excellent character moments!
Fortunately Valjean interrupts Thenardier's attempt to Scam Cosette! and then Valjean and Thenardier agree to meet at the Old Mill Thenardier Inn?!?
And then ..
ok what happens next should obviously be the Gorbeau Raid, except:
Marius has nothing to do with it. At all. Marius is not anywhere close to this, he's gone to join the Revolution, remember?
Eponine is not? there?
There is A LIGHTNING STORM for no reason?
VALJEAN HAS A GUN
the cops show up despite having absolutely no reason to??
I cannot usefully screencap this scene, its genius lies in its pacing, but also I am not sure how it's relevant anymore to the entire rest of the show! Kicking out Marius' Thenardier/ Napoleon issues kinda destroys half the relevance of the scene and Valjean and Thenardier already having acknowledged each other (and Thenardier knowing where he lives!) removes most of the rest. All we have left is FIGHT SCENE but then that's what this movie is about baby!!!
Tumblr media
[ID: Valjean being embraced by the Patron Minette as they all try to avoid the police. No really, that's what's happening. /end ID]
I have no idea what's going to happen at the barricades! I am so excited!

Cora Jane Messer- Little Eponine
Christine Heesun Hwang- Eponine
Addie Morales- Cosette
Gregory Lee Rodriguez-Marius
Devin Archer-Enjorlas
Kyle Adams- Grantaire
Gavroche- Harrison Fox
Well uh, unfortunately my theater decided that they weren't gonna flicker the lights to let us know to go back to our seats so I missed all of building the barricade and eponine giving the letter
On my own
-"Now I can make believe he's here" that tone she had was gorgeous
- I couldn't focus on most of the number because some kids behind me decided to get chips during Intermission because they were bored
- the blocking feels a bit stiff
-the lights where pretty tho
-again unfortunately I couldn't pay attention due to the kids behind me
-bUT oh my God when that barricade comes out with all the fog, one of the best scenes ever
At the barricade
-seeing the boys climb over the barricade was funny ngl
-the barricade bits are blurry in my head sorry yall
Javerts return/little people
-it looked like javert picked up a stick and started drawing
- this is a Gavroche Stan page
- gav tried jumping off the barricade like enj does
-gav flipping javert off might be my favorite thing
-marius in the back literally went like :0
-meanwhile after that grant picked gav up for "your the top of the class" after enj had his whole speaking bit he came over and ruffled gavs hair
A little fall of rain/ night of anguish
-during the small battle scene or whatever happened (I'm sorry I'm writing this In a car and can't remember so) ep moved marius and got shot perusal, she had a very small scream but it was at the same time the gunshot went off so it wasn't as noticeable
-she basically stumbled off the barricade with marius
-the way he said "oh god it's everywhere" was chilling tbh, he sounded scared almost
-miss girl basically falls onto him and then he carefully lays her down
-towards the end Gav ran over, taking a few moments to realize what happened
-Enj and grant then walked in (more like enj strutting) gav then clung to grants leg once ep actual died
-rip bad bitch, you will be missed
-IM SO SORRY THE WAY THEY CARRY HER OFF IS SO FUNNY
- FELT LIKE I WAS WATCHING THE QUEENS FUNERAL OR SMTH
-"her name was eponine,," lawd that was a kick to the gut huh
Valjeans revenge
-wake up babes daddy is climbing
-javert is back on stage (I don't know if he left)
-the hesitant 'he belongs to you'
-jean pushes javert down onto his knees facing the audience
-javert stayed looking forward while Jean approached him from behind (📸)
- he kept shaking his head as Jean was talking, he then grabbed the gun and forcibly put it in his hands then made Jean angle it at him
-Jean seemed clearly upset about this and the way he says "you are wrong,," sounds like he was trying to remind himself that
- he then continued to grab onto his jacket while saying "clear out of here"
- the gunshot scared me and my mom, we knew it was coming but it's so loUD
Drink with me
-once Grant starts singing and goes to the middle, Enj now looks over and starts getting off the barricade
-"marius, rest please" was very gently said
-the boys gave a small cheer when grant started singing
-grant lightly shoves one of the boys
-once he sees enj his mood changed
- during "can it be your death means nothing at all?" Enj clearly tried to hug him and grant pushed him away then walked away
-gav was standing right by enj and then held onto his leg
-grant goes over where the sewer is and puts his head against it, enj looking down and told gav somthing
-gav then ran over and hugged grant for behind (more like his legs since grant was tall) and he then put his hand over gavs arm
Bring him home
-chills the whole song
-nick gave it all ON A RANDOM WEDNESDAY NIGHT
-he really does sound like he's begging for marius to be alright
-enj is at the left top of the barricade, has his head slightly tilted down watching (I can't blame him)
-grant and gav are still sitting against the sewers, it was dark where they where but I think grant was holding him while he was sleeping
-the way my soul actually left my body at his last note
-breath support is all I gotta say
Second battle/Gavroches death /Final battle
-I don't remember much pre gav dying sorry
-everyone is dead silent the second gavroche starts singing
-Enj holds out his arms for gav then puts his fist up for "you better run for cover when the pup grows u-" and then he's shot
-gav falls onto enjs shoulder, enj took a second to hold onto him and slowly turned around clearly looking upset before giving him to grant
-everyone looked horrified at what they just saw
-grant held him close to his shoulder
-eventually when the shooting did happen Jean ran over and took gavs body and took it off stage then returned
-Randy Jeter was really slaying for the loud hailer
- the "until the earth is free" note gets faded into the music
-I don't know if it was on purpose or not but when enj is supposed to be kicking people down from the other side he nearly fell off, thankfully one of the fake boards was there and he pulled himself back up
-enj waving the flag has got to be the most beautiful thing I've ever seen omg, he was waving it very desperately
- the first one to go is Enj, before he starts falling grant starts trying to get up the barricade to grab him, only missing his hand by a little bit
-I'd like a moment to appreciate Jean basically t-posing while laying unconscious on the ground
-grant is the last one to die
-jean woke up then crawled over to marius whispering "shhh your okay please get up, get up" and then drags him off stage
-javert comes running over the barricade, the live fire torch looked so pretty for the scene
-when he got down he watched as the barricade opened
-Enj was vibing on the cart upside down per usual
-only one of his arms was hanging which is important in a second
-Javert walked over to Gavroche, prays over his body then lets the other dude pick him up
-gav gets thROWN in
-when the cart starts getting rolled off, enj was a little too far off the edge of the cart so it looked like he was gonna fall off, his other arm now fell off the cart
sewers/dog eat dog
-okay this scene deadass is my guiltly pleasure
-I got a tiny bit dizzy with the back screen visual
-the way Thénardier draggs one of the boys by the ankles💀
-I just love the song, it's so groovy
-valjean let go of marius and he just fell like the tower of terror
-when Thénardier goes over by marius he takes his hand like singing and puts it on his cheek acting as if it's his own hand
- "only the moon looks down" is still one of my favorite vocal moments, it scratches an itch in my brain
-"vALJEAN😧😧😧😧 AINT THE WORLD A REMARKABLE PLACE😧😃😧😃😧😃😧"
-marius seems to be like slightly awake
-I TRIED SO HARD NOT TO LAUGH WHEN IT CUTS 3 TIMES TO HIM CARRYING HIM DIFFERENT WAYS
- instrumental was such a bop
-javert is already waiting in the dark by the time Jean comes out
-once Jean looks over and sees him, javert points a gun at him (is this a new thing?? I don't remember seeing it before in boots)
-just gay old men arguing
-when Jean leaves with marius he looks back at him the same way javert did to him at the beginning, same places on the stage
Javerts suicide
-This is one of the scenes that is so so much better in person
-i personally think Hayden is one of the javerts that perform this scene best
-the stage is completely dark during the first Part
-but in the background you can see the bridge coming together on both sides which was so cool to see
-I definitely got more of a panic attack vibe from him instead of angry
-he kept on literally reaching out but his hands where extremely shakey
-javert was very slow about getting up on the bridge, he seemed hesitant
-"I am reaching but I fall" part was almost the exact same way nick as Jean performed it at the beginning with his hand reaching up
-once javert starts his final note I wasn't expecting the bridge to come out from Underhim and MANS WAS FLYING
-ofc he was up on wires but I never seen them and was shocked because I didn't know the scene is done like this (usually the bootlegs are taken from a weird angle for this scene)
-the visuals behind him are going down and eventually he gets pulled back into the darkness, the last thing you see is his hand reaching out
Turning
-interesting but sad scene transitions
-some of the women where dressed upperclass and half lower
-the little girl :((
-I'm not sure which actress is the one who says "what's the use of praying when nobody will hear??" But it was said very raw and emotional almost angry
-very beautiful song though
Empty chairs ar empty tables
-the tree is back
-yet another nice song transition
-love the performance but I don't have much to say???
-when le boys came in enj was the closest to him
-they pick up the candles, marius then waves his arm behind him like he was trying to make them go away during "don't ask me what your sacrifice was for"
-everyone blows their candles out except marius and enj
-enj is the last one to leave, marius looks over then enj blows his candle out then goes bye bye
-marius raises his candle at the end
Everyday/valjeans confession
-marius In his emo era then there's Cosette westing purple like hey lol
- cosette helps him walk over to the bench, once he sits down Cosette takes his cane and puts it behind the bench
- pretty vocals but everyday is kinda a basic song
-here comes the dilf, and he's got his limp again
-when he tells Cosette to go inside Cosette kinda looks between them like what's going onnnn and then leaves
-the change in tone when Jean talks to marius is interesting
-"who am i?" Idk man you tell me
-its 2:34 am when I'm writing this sorry I ain't remembering much
Wedding/beggers at a feast
-holy shit that is a very fast quick change for marius, I know he wears his coat over the wedding costume but sTILL
-again height difference between Cosette and him>>>
-Cosette's veil is gorgeous it's a shame it's only worn for like 5 minutes
- them dancing is the cutest thing ever and they kissed again before walking off the the side of the stage
- Marius introduces her to someone then goes over by the Thénardiers
-i was focusing on Cosette dancing
-the way the ensemble and cosette dance is interesting because they are clearly listening and moving to the tune
-Marius punching Thénardier was a slay per usual
-once they run off the plates drop ofc, overall the audience loved them
- the little hops during "among the elite"
- the line is back to "there goes a jew, this one's a queer but what can you do"
-the chaos that is the rest of the number>>>
Epilog
-Lmfao the change between songs
- he struggled for a sec to light the candles but got them eventually
-Nick made me appreciate jeans final solo part
-the chills I got when fantine comes out, I know she's an angel and she looked like one, she came out from stage right and had an orange haze casting over to her
-Jean looked relieved when he heard her, just ready to die
- Nick said a few times that his favorite line in the show is "she's the best of my life" and it shows 🥲🥲🥲
-Fantine got about 3 feet away, she was reaching out for him then Cosette comes running in
-this part is a bit of a blur since I was trying to get my phone out to get a small audio
- Marius comes in a few seconds after her, then he goes over behind the candles and looks at them until "you must forgive a thoughtless fool" then he sits by Cosette
- during the confession he slowly reached over and gave it to her, during "those who always loved you" He booped her nose again
- cosette is holding onto his hand until he gets up, more like he dies
-i wasn't paying attention to eponine I was trying to figure out why my camera didn't show the stage, turns out it was facing the wrong way
- "to love another person is to see the face of god" I'm not religious but that line always gets to me
-by the time Valjean gets up the chorus is starting, and the bishop comes out
-listen I know some people think it's stupid but I do like the Jean and bishop hug💔
-marius is holding Cosette and kissing her hair while rubbing her arm
-the ending just is so🤌🤌🤌 probably one of my favorite musical closers
Bonus if you made it this far

Fear not:
It's Showtime! We're putting on a train production of Rent/Les Miserables/Rocky Horror (choose one)
Which Snowpiercer character is playing which role? Why? What shenanigans occur? Is the show a success? Who steals the spotlight?
Ooo okay okay! So I've never actually seen ANY of those (so sorry 😬)
I’m gonna choose Les Miserables because I’ve seen the movie poster. I'm literally looking at images from google and the cast from the 2012 film so as someone who has no idea whats going on, enjoy!
-------------------
- Winnie plays that little girl from the poster. Apparently her name is Isabelle Allen.
- If Fantine is a main female than Miss Audrey will be playing her and she obviously steals the spotlight (in a good way).
- Don’t know who Grantaire is but he’s be played by Osweiller. Oz would be doing a great job until he trips over a light stand.
- Cosette will be played by Miss Gillies who does a wonderful job.
- Marius will be played by Javi. Javi forgets some of his lines because of his stage fright but Miss Gillies is great at improve and getting him back to saying the right lines.
- Wilford will play Jean Valjean. (I saw a photo of this character next to Trump so I guess he’s an important bad guy).
- Roche will play Inspector Javert. He does a decent job.
- Eponne will be played by... Zarah. I don’t know why.
- Bess will play Enjolras. I know he’s a dude but we’re switching it up. Bess also forgets some of her lines. Like Javi, she has stage fright.
- Ruth plays Madame Thénardier and kills it in the best way possible.
------------------
-Alex is in the role of the producer and Carly is lighting/grip.
-The show is not a success. So much goes wrong. But Audrey and Miss Gillies saves a lot of it.
-BTS Winnie and Oz have a prank war going on.

What about Olive and Honeydew?
Olive: favorite girl and boy baby names?
I plan to name my firstborn son hawkins of course (a family name). It’s trying sounding, classy, and he can have the nickname Hawkeye. Dude my toddler can have a superhero nickname. It can’t get better than that.
And my favorite girl name right now is Cosette, it’s the same name as the main girl from les miserables. I like the characters in media with this name, and I can nickname my baby cozy. Baby cozy. Cozy yall. That’s fkn adorable (As you guys can see, I like nicknames)
Honeydew: my favorite thing about myself?
My creativity I guess. I’m pretty good at keeping myself entertained

Now that we are talking about dilf Arthur. I have been thinking about this for a bit actually.
What about Arthur having a daughter (he doesn't know about) with a prostitute. Arthur and his Significant Other taking his daughter in because the mother can't take care of the baby anymore. What about the baby absolutely adoring Arthur s/o? cue Arthur commenting "I guess all Morgans love them (his s/o)"
this is less of a request more of me rambling absolute nonsense but I wouldn't be opposed if you want to write something about this
I don’t know why, but this kept reminding me of Les Miserables. Sort of a similar way that Jean Valjean rescues Cosette. I kept imagining Arthur singing ‘All I did was steal some bread… and robbed a train… and held up a bank stage coach… details!’ So there needs to be a RDR2 muscial now! XD I've also hc that Arthur and Reader left the VDL gang and live on a ranch, so this is quite au. Hope that's ok and thank you for your request :)
Arthur and Reader Adopt Arthur's Daughter
Arthur is surprised when he receives a letter from someone he doesn’t know. He can’t recognise the handwriting and the return address is unfamiliar to him.
You’ve already got your mail and so, a bit impatiently, you tell him to hurry up and open the damn thing.
He does so, but as he reads, you’re scared to see his face go from confusion, to fear and then to sorrow. You ask him what’s wrong, but he hurries off to read the letter again.
You wait for him outside the station, hoping he’s not done a runner. But eventually he comes back. He looks very serious and worried.
You gesture to a bench and you both sit down. Arthur can’t speak for a moment, but you gently take hold of his hand and assure him that you’ll always love and support him no matter what.
In a soft, dry voice he tells you about four years ago, when he was still running in the gang, he visited a brothel. He slept with a woman there who has now written to him. You frown in confusion.
‘Why?’ you ask, ‘Why’s she writing to you now?’ If this woman has fallen for Arthur it seems like a long time to wait and let him know.
‘She… She had a baby… said it’s mine, a girl, she’s three now… Her town has… They got cholera there. She’s got cholera and thinks she’s not long for this world. She wants me… us… to take the baby and look after her.’
You both sit there for a long time, it’s a lot to take in, but knowing how devastating cholera can be, there’s not much time to come to a decision. Regardless of the circumstances of this little girl’s birth, you’re not going to refuse help to an innocent child.
You get up, Arthur looks momentarily panicked as though you’re about to tell him you’ve had enough and are leaving him. But you turn back to face him.
‘Come on, cholera’s bad, we should get that little girl out of there sooner rather than later.’
He looks like he might cry on seeing your determination to help his daughter, but he gets to his own feet and takes hold of your hand in his.
‘She got a name, your daughter?’ you smile.
‘Elsie.’
***
It was hard enough seeing the devastation of the small town, the pile of burning clothes and infected produce, the graves that have been dug.
But when Arthur is forced to tear Elsie away from her mother the little girl cries. She doesn’t stop crying as you leave the town, even though you have tried your best to explain everything to her and her mother reassures Elsie she’ll be well looked after.
You still had doubts, but seeing the little girl only confirms that Arthur is her father. She has the same blue-green eyes and light brown hair.
Even when you stop for the night and set up camp, Elsie is still crying. Weakly, but her little frame shakes with sobs and you feel so awful for her.
Arthur does his best to comfort her, but she barely listens to him and just clutches a teddy bear that you brought her. He has his usual look of panic and worry that he can’t control the situation and that he’s a terrible father and shouldn’t be the one doing this.
Eventually, you get her to sit on your lap, soothingly rub her back and cuddle her up in a blanket. She seems to be comforted by that, putting her thumb in her mouth and sniffing a little.
You encourage her to eat and she manages to eat the rabbit Arthur caught, some peach slices and a few squares of chocolate that you had stashed on you.
You put her to bed, sitting near her, so she knows your nearby and keeping the fire going.
‘Yer good at that… much better than I am,’ Arthur says, looking down on his daughter.
‘Takes practice and patience,’ you say. ‘You’ll get there too and she’ll be happy to call you her pa, it will just take time and you getting to know each other.’
You squeeze his hand and he smiles at you.
***
You knew Arthur had nothing to be worried about. Elsie is six now, lively, excitable, funny, cheeky and adores her father.
If he’s heading off out to work on the ranch, she’ll wolf down her breakfast, pull on her little boots and run out to catch up with him and hold his hand.
He teaches her everything. How to read and write, how to draw, the names of animals and plants, how to ride. It’s still your favourite thing to see Elsie sat in front of her father and giggling with excitement as they ride his horse.
He builds her a swing, makes little wooden toys for her and reads to her every night. He marks on the wall how tall she’s getting and she always tries to stand up on tiptoe to be a little taller every time.
She loves you as well, helping to make supper, talking about her day and her favourite animals.
You have to remind her every time she runs back in the house to take off her boots, but you love it when she barrels her way into the kitchen and hugs you.
Arthur smiles when he sees it. ‘I guess all Morgans love yer, huh?’
You hadn’t expected to have a child this way with Arthur Morgan, but you are absolutely delighted that you do.

The Les Miserables Changelog Part 5: 1992 UK Tour
Hello, everyone! This is the latest edition in my attempt to chronicle all of the musical and lyrical changes which the show Les Miserables has undergone over the years. Much like the last part, this one focuses on changes made not to the official libretto, but to one particular production: namely, the 1992-1994 UK tour. However, in contrast to the last part, the vast majority of these changes at least made it elsewhere at some point. This will be a bit longer than Part 4, but still shorter than any of the first three parts. With all that cleared up, let us begin!
Like the West End production before it (more on that later), the UK tour swapped these lines from "At the End of the Day":
What is this fighting all about?
Will someone tear these two apart?
He thus instead sings:
Will someone tear these two apart?
What is this fighting all about?
The first noticeable difference original to this production occurs during "Lovely Ladies". Originally after Fantine's "Ten francs will save my poor Cosette", there was a rather complex section in which the sailors and prostitutes sung different lines simultaneously. It went as follows:
(SAILORS - simultaneously with prostitutes' lines)
Lovely lady, fastest on the street
Wasn't there three minutes
She was back up on her feet
Lovely lady, what you waiting for
Doesn't take a lot of savvy just to be a whore
Come on lady, what's a lady for?
(PROSTITUTES - simultaneously with sailors' lines)
Lovely ladies, lovely little girls
Lovely ladies, lovely little ladies
Lovely girlies, lovely little girls
We are lovely, lovely girls
Lovely ladies, what's a lady for?
The UK tour totally reimagines this scene as an exchange between a prostitute and a pimp:
(PROSTITUTE)
God I'm weary, sick enough to drop
Belly burns like fire
Will the bleeding never stop?
(PIMP)
Cheer up dearie, show a happy face
Plenty more like you, dear
If you can't keep up the pace
(PROSTITUTE)
Only joking, dearie knows her place
This is quite a massive departure from the original! I imagine it would be quite a bit easier to get right given that it involves only two actors, neither of whose dialog overlaps the other (in contrast to the original scene with an entire ensemble of actors with distinct but simultaneous lyrics and tunes). It's hard for me to decide what I prefer. Thematically, the revised version is better, given that it makes the negative and exploitative aspects of prostitution quite a bit clearer than the original. However, lyrically I prefer the original somewhat simply for the sake of consistency. The sick prostitute scene, as it's sometimes been called, is the only point in the entire song where that chorus is used without some variation of the words "lovely ladies". Feels a little out-of-place to me.
"Fantine's Arrest" also gets different lyrics - for a time, at least. I have two different audios from the UK tour, from April and December 1992 respectively. The December audio reverts to the original lyrics for Bamatabois (though not for Fantine). I wonder whether or not someone just forgot to tell the replacement Bamatabois about the lyrical edit, or if it was a conscious choice to revert the scene? I also wonder if the year-plus of the tour after that performance kept the original lyrics or put the new ones in again. Regardless, this is how the exchange between Fantine and Bamatabois originally went:
(BAMATABOIS)
Is this a trick? I won't pay more
(FANTINE)
No, not at all
(BAMATABOIS)
You've got some nerve, you little whore
You've got some gall!
It's the same with a tart as it is with a grocer
The customer sees what he gets in advance
It's not for the whore to say "yes sir" or "no sir"
It's not for the harlot to pick or to choose
Or to lead me a dance
The UK tour initially revised the sequence into the following:
(BAMATABOIS)
Is this a trick? I won't pay more
(FANTINE)
I won't have you
(BAMATABOIS)
You've got some sauce, you ugly slut
You've got some gall!
What's become of the world when a whore from the gutter
Can suddenly get such ideas in her head?
Your job is to lie on your back for your betters
This hideous harlot believes she can choose
Who she takes to her bed
I guess the revised lyrics feel a bit more threatening, as well as a little less contrived. (Who the hell has ever actually used the phrase "lead me a dance"?) Still, I prefer the original ones because the rhyme scheme feels a lot more natural.
More changes occur during "The Runaway Cart". The original (rather clunky) conversation among the townspeople was as follows (with each line separate due to being said by a different person than the previous one):
Look at that
Look at that
It's Monsieur Fauchelevent
Don't approach
Don't go near
At the risk of your life
He is caught by the wheel
Oh the pitiful man
Stay away
Turn away
There is nothing to do
There is nothing to do
The UK tour rewrites most of the scene into the following:
Look at that
Stay away
You'll be crushed by the cart
Don't approach
Don't go near
It'll fall on you too
Oh my god, who is that?
It's Monsieur Fauchelevent
He is caught by the wheel
Oh the pitiful man
There is nothing to do
A far more natural progression in my humble opinion, and less repetitive as well.
The later scene involving the townspeople doesn't actually include any lyrical changes. However, like the West End production before it (more on that later), it does take lines that were previously in the singular into ensemble lines. The sequence was generally being performed as follows:
(MALE TOWNSPERSON)
Don't go near him, Monsieur Mayor
The load is as heavy as hell
(FEMALE TOWNSPERSON)
The old man is a goner for sure
(MALE TOWNSPERSON)
It will kill you as well
The UK tour instead staged it as follows:
(MALE TOWNSPERSON)
Don't go near him, Monsieur Mayor
(ENSEMBLE)
The load is as heavy as hell
(FEMALE TOWNSPERSON)
The old man is a goner for sure
(ENSEMBLE)
It will kill you as well
This ensemble business, which was already being used in the West End at the time, is an interesting callback, perhaps, to the pre-Broadway libretto in which much of the segment was sung by the ensemble. Personally I consider this edit an improvement. It feels far more frantic when the entire crowd is involved in the scene.
Once Valjean actually saves Fauchelevent, his lines are originally as follows:
Monsieur Le Maire, I have no words
You come from God, you are a saint
The UK tour changes them into the following:
Monsieur Le Maire, I have no words
You saved my life, you come from God
I guess the rewrite makes the reason for Fauchelevent's gratitude clearer, though it was already perfectly clear to begin with. The edit certainly doesn't hurt anything though.
The preamble to "Master of the House" retains the original "Hell, what a wine" instead of the post-Broadway "God, what a wine" edit.
Similarly, the "Waltz of Treachery" number has Thenardier ask the original "Have we done for your child what is best?" instead of the post-Broadway "her child".
A slight variation can be heard after the “Waltz of Treachery”. Usually Little Cosette asks:
Will there be children
And castles to see?
However, in the UK tour she instead asks:
Will there be castles
And children to see?
This variation also occurs in some early post-Broadway West End performances, and in the Complete Symphonic Soundtrack. I’d be interested to know whether or not that soundtrack may have inspired the choice during the UK a tour.
Interestingly, “Look Down” reverts an exchange back from the 1987 libretto into the original pre-Broadway version. Perhaps drawing from the West End show which was still using the original variant of this particular moment, the sequence officially sung by the ensemble as follows as follows:
When’s it gonna end
When’re we gonna live
Something’s gotta happen now or
Something’s gotta give
Because, as it was originally written, sung by one person at a time:
When’s it gonna end
When’re we gonna live
Something’s gotta happen, dearie
Something’s gotta give
My thoughts on the two variants can be seen in Part 3 of this blog.
Like the Australian tour, the UK tour has Thenardier say "God rewards all the things that you do" during "The Robbery" instead of "the good that you do".
Also, for some reason Thenardier refers to "the brand across his chest" instead of "upon his chest" later in the number.
The UK tour borrows the revised lyrics to “Stars” from the Australian tour and the West End production. Instead of the original lyrics:
A fugitive running
Fallen from grace, fallen from grace
It used these ones:
A fugitive running
Fallen from God, fallen from grace
Instead of these lines:
He knows his way in the dark
But mine is the way of the Lord
And those who follow the path of the righteous shall have their reward
It uses the shortened variants:
He knows his way in the dark
Mine is the way of the Lord
Those who follow the path of the righteous shall have their reward
Finally, instead of these lines:
And so it has been
And so it is written
It used these ones:
And so it must be
And so it has written
You can read my thoughts on all those differences in Part 4 of this blog.
The next noticeable difference occurs at the beginning of “Red and Black”. Previously the song opened with the beginning chords. However, the UK tour added a short musical sting before these chords. If I’m not mistaken, this musical addition was placed in to account for a change in staging. Originally the number began with the barricade set sliding off-stage, revealing the ABC cafe set behind it. However, around the time of this tour the blocking was adjusted. Now, the turntable instead revolved at the beginning of this number, revealing the ABC cafe set on the other end of the turntable and allowing the barricade set to double as the walls of the cafe. I believe the opening sting was added to allow time for this slightly more elaborate staging.
Additionally, as was the case in the West End at the time, no one shouts Enjolras' name during the instrumentals to "Red and Black".
In “Red and Black”, Enjolras usually sings:
We need a sign
To rally the people, to call them to arms
To bring them in line
However, the UK tour replaces it with the following lines:
We need a sign
To rally the people, to fire their blood
And to bring them in line
I guess “fire their blood” has a certain idealistic flair that fits Enjolras’ character, but I still definitely prefer the usual lyric. It conveys the message a lot more directly.
After the number, this is Enjolras’ original remark regarding General Lamarque’s passing:
On his funeral day they will honor his name
It’s a rallying cry that will reach every ear
In the death of Lamarque we will kindle the flame
They will see that the day of salvation is near
The time is here…
The UK tour rewrites those lines into the following:
On his funeral day they will honor his name
With the light of rebellion ablaze in their eyes
From their candles of grief we will kindle our flame
On the tomb of Lamarque shall our barricades rise
The time is here…
Though there’s a bit less rhyming in the revision, it strikes me as somewhat nicer and less clunky-sounding. The sentences’ subjects no longer feel all over the place, and the phrasing is far more poetic.
As with “Look Down”, some lyrics to “The Attack on Rue Plumet” are reverted to their original form (which was also still used in the West End at the time). Thenardier’s official lyrics following Eponine’s scream were as follows:
You wait my girl, you’ll rue this night
I’ll make you scream, you’ll scream alright!
Leave her to me, don’t wait around
Make for the sewers, go underground
The UK tour brought them back to this form:
Make for the sewers, don’t wait around
Leave her to me, go underground
You wait my girl, you’ll rue this night
I’ll make you scream, you’ll scream alright!
You can read my thoughts on these variants in Part 3 of this blog.
As with the Australian tour, Philip Quast changes “we’ll be ready for these schoolboys” into “I will join these little schoolboys” in “One Day More”. Unlike the Australian tour, the UK tour would maintain this variant even after Philip left. You can read my thoughts on this variant in Part 4 of this blog.
That’s it for the first act! The first noticeable difference occurs right before “A Little Fall of Rain”. Instead of opening with the beginning music, the UK tour added a short musical interlude beforehand. In my opinion, this music sounds terrible and feels extremely out-of-place. I wonder whether or not there was some change in staging to account for these extra notes.
After Enjolras' "Night of Anguish", the instrumental music is edited. Originally the number was followed by the same tune which would later be heard in "Drink with Me". However, the UK tour replaced it with a reprise of the tune of "A Little Fall of Rain". This is one of my least favorite edits for the tour. The original music felt highly emotional, and, since it predicted a later number, it implies the sense that, despite Eponine's death, there is more to come and the revolution is far from over. I'd argue that simply reprising a song that just happened suggests a degree of closure that is not appropriate for its context.
Everything is as usual right up until the epilogue. As with the Australian tour, the UK tour uses the “I’ll lead you to salvation” line instead of “And lead me to salvation” for Fantine and Eponine. You can read my thoughts on that change in Part 4 of this blog.
That’s it for this part! If I missed anything feel free to let me know, as my goal is to create a changelog as thorough and complete as possible. I plan on making more parts in the near future covering all the changes that have been made in the show up until this day (discounting concerts). Any feedback and constructive criticism is very much appreciated. As a side note, both for this project and my own enjoyment, I want as complete a collection of Les Miserables audios as possible. I already have most of what’s commonly circulated, but if you have any audios or videos you know are rare, I’d love it if you DMed me! Until the turntable puts me at the forefront again, good-bye…

Ok, so in the past weeks (I think since November, more or less) I'm watching/ re-watching some Les Miserables adaption, together with @clumsyhobbit.
For now we watched the 1995 concert, 2014 Broadway musical, 2019 concert, 1964 Italian serie, 1978 movie, and 4 episodes of 2018 BBC serie. We yet programmed to finish the BBC serie and then 2012 movie (which I saw on my own many times) and Shojo Cosette anime (where I saw only few episodes).
Soon or later we need to watch also the 2010 concert, the 1998 movie and 2000 mini serie.
But, for now, I think that I could show you my "Dream Cast", even if it maybe will be updated in the future.
BTW, here it is:
Jean Valjean
Tumblr media
Richard Jordan
(1978 movie)
I mean, look at him! He's too cute! And also, his look is so fluffy and on point!
Even if Colm Wilkinson and Hugh Jackman has both a special place in my heart!
Javert
Tumblr media
Philip Quast
(1995 concert)
He IS Javert. Period.
But he’s immediately fololwed by Tino Carraro (1964 Italian serie) and Anthony Perkins (1978 movie) as they’re both perfect (Carraro is a very accurate Brick Javert, and Perkins is amazing too!!
(Even if my forbidden desire is to see, soon or later, a Romani Javert on screen... T^T)
Cosette
Tumblr media
Ellie Bamber
(2018 BBC serie)
Baby Cosette
Tumblr media
Mailow Defoy + Lia Giovanelli
(2018 BBC serie)
Finally we could see the FULL story of Cosette.
She has a personality!!
And they’re adorable.
But all these girls needed to have brown hair XP
Marius
Tumblr media
Roberto Bisacco
(1964 Italian serie)
As he looks 100% the clumsy, awkward and naive boobie-boy he is in the book.
Fantine
Tumblr media
Anne Hathaway
(2012 movie)
She is so good and her acting is heartbreaking, even if a lot of her story is brutally cut out (and she needs to be BLONDE!!)
Eponine
Tumblr media
Samantha Barks
(2012 movie)
Alright, both Angela Cardile (1964 Italian serie) and  Erin Kellyman are much more similar to the clever and stalky girl that Eponine is in the book, in 1964 serie the’re is also the part where she lures Marius at the barricade just trying to die with him (IDK if there is also in the 2018 serie, I’ve not seen yet the last 2 episodes), but Samantha Barks is too intense to not be loved, even if the character in the musical is totally changed.
Azelma
Tumblr media
Alex Jarrett
(2018 BBC serie)
Well, she’s basically only there and in the 1964 serie, but she didn’t do so much. And I prefer her 2018 appearance, so...
Gavroche
Tumblr media
Adam Searles
(1995 concert)
IDK, I like so much also Reece Davies (2018 BBC serie) and Logan Clark (2019 concert) but when I imagine Gavroche, Crivello’s look is the first that I think.
M.me Thenardier
Tumblr media
Olivia Colman
(2018 BBC serie)
Because only there she’s really shown as the bastard bitch she is in the book.
In all the other adaptions she’s only or a comic relief or drunk (1964) or even cut out briefly (1978)
Thenardier
Tumblr media
Antonio Battistella
(1964 Italian serie)
He’s perfect. The clever asshole he is in the book, and not (again) a comic relief or very cut out (1978, again, where all the Thenardier family is brutally cut out except in a short scene).
I like very much also Adeel Aktar (2018 BBC serie), as he’s too shown perfecty in character (basically both these Thenardiers act on point in the same way), but.... That vagina-like beard make me uncorfortable... Sorry! ^_^”
Enjolras
Tumblr media
Aaron Tveit
(2012 movie)
His look is perfect, and he’s very good as the fiery and intrepid leader of the barricade.
But another perfect Enjolras is Claudio Sora (1964 Italian serie) as he is totally the idealistic, serious and ferocius revolutionary he is in the book.
Honorable mention even to Bradley Jaden (from 2019 concert) as he’s too adorable and cute for this world!
Grantaire
Tumblr media
IDK his name
(1964 Italian serie)
I love the 1964's Grantaire (I can’t find his name, sorry) as everytime is on screen he cracks me up, he’s perfect as acting as a drunk dude (even if he looks as a 45 years old man, definitely too much old for a student! XD).
His scenes with Javert are priceless!! XDD
But, on a side note, for Grantaire happens the same thing I said of Gavroche, that every time I imagine him, is George Blagden (2012 movie) that appears.
Fauchelevent
Tumblr media
Cyril Cusack
(1978)
His mastermind dialogue with the Mother at the Petit-Picpus is too much funny!
Courfeyrac
Tumblr media
Archie Madekwe
(2018 BBC serie)
He’s too cute! And I love how is shown his friendship with Marius!
Mon. Myriel
Tumblr media
Colm Wilkinson
(2012 movie)
What can I say? He’s adorable, looking so peaceful and wise all the time!
Les Amis
(I’m sorry, but they’re shown all, (precising the names) only in the 1964 serie (in both the 2012 movie and 2018 BBC serie they’re there also, but honestly I can’t understand which is which), so I can’t make a good choice for them. :P
BONUS:
Rivette
Tumblr media
Enzo Clienti
(2018 BBC serie)
Ok, he is an original character which appears only in the 2018 serie, but he’s too adorable to not mention him! <3)
@clumsyhobbit if you want, do a list of your favourite cast too!!

Myrcella Baratheon Fancast Resource
Myrcella has golden curls, emerald eyes, and full lips. She is described by her uncle, Tyrion Lannister, as having all of her mother Cersei's beauty, but none of her mother's nature. Myrcella is delicate, beautiful, and courteous. For her age, she displays courage, a strong will, and high intelligence. She is eight, or almost eight, at the beginning of A Song of Ice and Fire. Myrcella resembles Rosamund Lannister. (x)
TIL: Eight-year-olds are smaller than you think they are.
Tumblr media
CARA JENKINS - YOUNG ELIZABETH (BELLE)
Cara was 8/9 when filming Belle. She’s got a handful of scenes at the beginning of the film, all in regency-ish clothing.
Tumblr media
ELLE FANNING - MARY (THE NUTCRACKER IN 3D)
This film had an unusually long post-production, so despite the 2010 release date, it was filmed a few months after Elle’s 9th birthday. I honestly cannot pin down any sort of era for the fashion, but she’s just got the most perfect Myrcella curls.
Tumblr media
POPPY WIGGLESWORTH - CHARLOTTE (THE DUCHESS)
Poppy (seriously does this kid have the most fun name or what?) was also 9 when filming The duchess. Late 18th-century fashion, usually in scenes with several younger girls.
Tumblr media
ANAMARIA VARTOLOMEI - VIOLETTA GIURGIU (MY LITTLE PRINCESS)
11 during filming, Anamaria is really too old for Myrcella, but she’s has such a perfect aesthetic for her that I’m including her anyway.
Tumblr media
OTHERS
1. HANNAH ENDICOTT-DOUGLAS - BRIDGET O’MALLEY (SAMANTHA: AN AMERICAN GIRL ADVENTURE): 9 during filming, Edwardian fashion. She plays a working-class girl, so most usable Myrcella footage comes from the end, when she’s in a nightgown instead.
2. ELSA HOUBEN - KATHERINE WOODVILLE (THE WHITE QUEEN): I can’t find an exactly birthdate, but she was roughly 10 during filming. The White Queen and the other Philippa Gregory series’ are full of tiny blonde children in Tudor dress, but you do have to do a fair amount of mining since the children tend to appear briefly.
3. LIA GIOVANELLI - YOUNG COSETTE (BBC LES MISERABLES): Another one for whom I can’t get an exact birthday, but she’s 10ish as well. Again the costume design’s not super accurate to Westeros, but she’s an expressive child with a fair amount of featured scenes.
4. RAMONA MARQUEZ - PRINCESS MARGARET (THE KING’S SPEECH): 9 during filming, medium number of featured scenes, early 20th century fashion.
Particularly for this one, feel free to add any of your own! The full set of my fancast resources can be found here.

I had this super silly idea for a new Les Miserables modern AU: Big Bang Theory AU (sort of):
Plot:
Marius is a low budget Law student, who could only efforts to pay rent for a room, in an apartment shared with an older Cop, the Inspector Javert.
Javert is quite weird, having any sort of mania at home, talking all the time about Law or Astronomy, being constantly overtired, frustrated with his colleagues (who barely tolerate him at work) and drinking a ton of coffee.
Marius has also two others close friends, Enjolras (another Law student, quite rich, who hopes to became a politician) and Grantaire (who is a Philosophy student, and works in a wine shop).
There is also Eponine, who is not a student but has two works, as a waitress and as an assistant in the University faculty, and is secretly in love of Marius.
Times gone by, until someday the apartment in front of theirs is rented too.
Enter Cosette, a young and cute girl who came to live there alone, working as a waitress (together with Eponine) while searching a better work as a singer.
Marius falls immediately for Cosette, courting her while mocked by his roommate Javert, who thinks that he’s just weird and that love is for fools.
For vengeance, then, Enjolras and Grantaire tries to matchmaking him with someone, but fails on every try, but when all hopes seems lost, they meets a kind and yet reserved old man on the last bar where they went, and Javert immediately offers him a drink, for the disbelief of both Enjolras and R.
Sadly, Javert is too shy for asking his phone number, so after that night he had no idea on how meet again that man...
Until a day Cosette’s dad, Mr Fauchelevent, comes to see her, and meets Javert on the landing between the two apartments.
Javert immediately recognises him as the man he met, and even if awkwardly he starts to slowly corting him, at the same time he kept watching closely the man, as he seems familiar in a certain way (while Fauchelevent, not knowing he’s a cop, believes that he is just shy)...
After some times, Javert eventually discovers that Mr. Fauchelevent are actually the ex-con Jean Valjean, who changed his name after being freed from prison, hoping to start a new life with his adopter daughter, and obviously he’s totally not happy about the discovery.
After a big quarrel, he starts to keep the distance from Valjean, angrily, but Marius and Cosette organizes a blind appointment for both the older men, so they could fix their differences and start again their relationship.
