Title Pending Olivia x MC Fic, Chapter two
Hellooo! I’d like to start off with a quick apology. I had a bunch of family drama this week, so I’m aware that this chapter is a bit lackluster. I swear  that it’s not just a lack of talent! That’s only like ten percent of the problem! Anyways, here it is!
Warnings: Sexual language, cursing.

“Woah.”
Maxwell was craning his neck to inspect Paige’s outfit from where she stood on the steps. It felt strangely like a grown-up prom, gliding down the stairwell with all eyes on her (well, Maxwell’s eyes). She gave a little twirl, showing off her devastatingly expensive gown. The gown she’d had to buy herself. You’d think that riding with a noble would mean that they’d be willing to shell out a dime or two, but alas, she’d spent her own damn money on this. Not that she was bitter or anything.
She’d gone with the angel outfit. A glittery, cold shouldered bodice gave way to heavy skirts of layered tulle and silk. A delicate lacey mask fit over her eyes, and a fluffy little halo floated above her head. She felt genuinely angelic, like she could float right around the room.
“Man, you look amazing! You’ll definitely get the ladies in court talking.”
It was the night of the first ball of the season. Just a day ago, Paige had hopped on a plane and flown out to Cordonia. She was staying in the palace with all the other nobles until the tour started up. They were set to move all around the country to the various duchies of the various suitors. In the meantime, Paige was staying in a fabulous room in the back of the palace she’d spent all last night marveling at. Now, she was marching down to the introductory ball with Maxwell by her side. It was a masquerade event, hence the angel outfit. She was set to make an excellent first impression, something that was crucial to building the flawless reputation she was determined to possess. According to Drake, she was about to walk into a room full of bloodthirsty snobs, so it was important to look the part of a future queen. Her wardrobe was her armour, Hana had said.
Hana. That was the name of the girl Paige had met in the dressing room, who happened to be the fourth of those five people who would one day change her life. The two had gotten dressed and acquainted, and Paige was hoping to run into her at the ball. She had been sweet, helpful, informative, and gorgeous. What was it with the people there? She had never seen such a consistent concentration of ridiculously hot people in her life.
“Okay. It’s time.” They stopped in front of the ornate golden doors. Maxwell turned to her, adjusting his mask. “Before we get into the actual ball, you’ll need to give the herald your full name when we go in. Since you’re with my family, you could technically be considered a Lady. You’ll give him your name, and he’ll announce you as Lady Paige…?”
“Langley. Lady Paige Langley.”
“Hm. Not exactly traditional, but regal enough.”
With that, he pushed open the doors, and they strolled in. Paige gave her name to the herald, and stood as straight as she could on the steps. Maxwell gave her a quick, reassuring smile, and she felt slightly better. He was good at that.
“LORD MAXWELL PERCIVAL BEAUMONT, AND LADY PAIGE LANGLEY!” The herald’s voice boomed through the enormous room. At the sound of an unfamiliar name, heads turned to watch Paige strut down the stairs. Little gasps and murmurs rippled through the room as they stared at her. She resisted the urge to tug at her hair or adjust her halo. Any move that betrayed how self conscious she was feeling would definitely get her noticed. People like those could sniff out an insecurity like blood in the water. The second a confident exterior faltered, they went in for the kill. Paige kept her back straight and her eyes ahead.
“Okay. I gotta go talk to my brother. You stay here. Mingle. You can do that, right? Just mingle.” Before she could respond, Maxwell was gone.
Paige turned, looking around desperately for someone she knew. She spotted Drake, looking vaguely angsty and annoyed in a corner, still in his basic denim. She decided she might as well try her luck with him. She walked over, trying her best to step slowly and gracefully.
“Well, well, well, aren’t you looking pretty.” He sized her up. “You fit right in.”
“Well, you’re charming as ever.”
“Ha! Compared to most of the nobles here, I’m your best friend.”
“God, Drake.” she rolled her eyes. “Everyone here’s been perfectly nice so far.”
“Sure, to your face. What do you think goes on the second you leave the room? The people here will jump at the chance to shove you as far down the totem pole as they can.”
“Well, let’s take a look at some examples of their behavior, shall we? They’re letting you attend an extremely high-brow event for free, in your day clothes. You have access to expensive foods, interesting conversation and a bar full of fancy foreign cocktails. And instead of being grateful, you choose to badmouth these people whenever you can, complain, and act like you’re being some big hero by being here. You’re not even wearing a mask!” She hadn’t realized how annoyed she was, but she found herself surprisingly worked up on this. At the sight of her pissed-off expression, Drake softened slightly.
“Look. I swear I’m not trying to be a dick, just trying to be honest. It may look glamorous here, but these people are completely two faced. You’re the newbie, and without someone like me looking out for you, you’ll get clobbered.”
His explanation didn’t exactly soften her up. “If your way of helping is to stand in the corner and bitch about this place, then I’d say you’re doing an excellent job.”
Drake looked like he was going to respond, but he stopped suddenly. He went stiff as a board and completely pale, his eyes fixed right over Paige’s shoulder. Before she could ask what was wrong, she felt a warm hand on her arm.
“Pardon me, but I must steal her away.” The voice was warm, seductive, completely unfamiliar. Based on the alarmed look on Drake’s face, it must not have been a friendly one.
“Um, I’ll just…” He all but sprinted for the opposite end of the room. Paige turned to face the intruder.
Oh. The tiniest of gasps escaped her lips as she gazed into a pair of emerald-green eyes.
If you were to take the moment she first saw Liam, and multiply it by about a thousand or so, you’d have some idea of how Paige felt. Her heart threatened to beat right out of her body as her stomach swooped dramatically.
The woman before her was like no noble Paige had seen before. Where some, like Hana, chose to present themselves as a sweet, soft sort of beautiful, this woman was more sexy. An edgy, almost dangerous sort of drop-dead gorgeous that made heat pool in Paige’s core.
She realized, dazedly, that the woman was wearing the devil costume Paige had almost bought. Little horns peaked out from her pile of crimson hair. The red velvet of her gown clung to her rounded hips, and the neck of it fell as far down her chest as courtly etiquette would allow. She gazed down at Paige, her lips slightly parted. She seemed surprised, as though the other woman had caught her off guard somehow, and Paige wondered distantly what that meant.
“I am Lady Olivia Vanderwall Nevrakis, Duchess of Lythikos,” she murmured. Paige fought to keep her eyes from flickering to the duchess’s candy-painted lips.
“I’m-”
“Lady Paige Langley. Yes, I heard the herald announce you. That’s why I’m here.” She shook her head slightly. Her gaze became sharper as she smiled at the other woman. “I make it my business to know every name at court, and I’ve never heard yours before. Perhaps you’re from one of the humbler duchies?” She didn’t give Paige a chance to respond. “In any case, since you’re the new girl at court, I thought I might give you a bit of advice. You’re not from here, I take it? Cordonia, I mean.” Paige could only nod.
“Well then, let me give you a little tip.” She leaned in with a conspiratory smile, and Paige could feel Olivia’s warm breath on her skin. Her legs grew unstable beneath her, as though she were about to faint.
“When you go up to see the king, bow and kiss his right shoe. It’s a sign of ultimate respect here.”
Could that be true? Unlikely as it seemed, Paige did recall reading about a similar custom from somewhere else in Europe. She frowned. “Really?” She made a mental note to ask Maxwell about that later.
“Oh, of course! It’s lucky I was able to tell you, otherwise you would’ve looked like a complete fool!” She gave a light laugh. As soon as she heard it, the waitress wanted to do whatever she could to hear that sound again.
“Paige!” Maxwell ran up from out of nowhere. Paige did her best not to be annoyed with him for cutting her time with Olivia short. “Liam’s-” he cut himself off as he noticed the Nevrakis. “Um, I mean, Prince Liam, whose title I am always sure to use, because of my deep respect and admiration for him, is coming out to see everyone.” Olivia rolled her eyes and walked off to join a small cluster of ladies.
“Are you ready to see him again?”
Paige tried to paste on a convincing smile. “Totally. I’m totally ready for this.”
“Cool. Let’s go!”
The pair ran off to join a gathering of people at the side of the room, Paige resisting the urge to check over her shoulder for Olivia.
“There he is!” Maxwell pointed. And there he was, the prince himself. Liam stood at the end of the room, making conversation with a star-struck young woman clearly trying very hard to keep cool.
“Do you think he’ll be happy to see me?” Paige whispered.
“Only one way to find out, I guess. But first, you gotta meet the king.”
“Wait, what? You didn’t tell me that I’m meeting the king first thing! What do I say to him?
“Calm down. It’s easy. Just follow what the other ladies do, and you’ll be fine.”
“Wait, wha-”
“LADIES OF THE COURT!” An announcer’s voice boomed across the room. “LINE UP TO GREET THE KING!”
The women rushed to form a line leading towards the front of the room. Paige caught a glimpse of an older man taking a seat upon one of the gilded thrones at the front of the room, flanked by two guards. Hitching up her skirts, she hurried over to take her spot in the growing queue. She watched as each woman made her way up to the king, curtseying and-
And nothing. The bulk of heavy skirts and the towers of gelled-up hair completely blocked her view. It was impossible to tell if any shoe kissing had taken place. She tried her best to steal a glance, but the women in line seemed to take her rustling for attempted line-cutting. She received multiple dirty looks as well as one quick jab to the ribs.
The line was shortening quickly, and Paige was beginning to get panicky. She was already a commoner. She couldn’t afford to broadcast the fact that she also knew pretty much nothing of Cordonian culture. She’d be laughed right out of the court, right out of the country. She leaned to the side again, trying desperately to see what was going on. Nothing.
Finally, there were only two women left in front of Paige. She had given up on trying to see what they were doing, and was instead just trying to not let her nerves show. Elegant smile, straight back. She caught a glimpse of Liam standing across the room, making polite conversation with those who had already met the king. Out of his sweater and into his official suit, he looked so much more… official. That air of nobility that had seemed out of place at the bar suited him perfectly here. He looked so quintessentially prince charming, the poster boy for all that was good and wholesome. It was easy to see why so many ladies were here. In addition to the many gold diggers that Paige was sure were lurking about, many of these women probably actually liked Liam. She watched as a dark-haired young woman laughed a little too hard at a joke of his, slapping his arm lightly. Her eyes sparkled as she stepped closer to him. Her lips parted, as she pre-
“Shitshitshit!” She hissed under breath, before praying that nobody heard her. It was her turn to greet the king.
“Good evening, milady.” The king smiled kindly at her as she took a step closer. He was clearly expecting something.
“Good evening, your majesty. I am Lady Paige Langley, of House Beaumont.”
She dropped into a low curtsey. Her face was inches from the king’s shoe.
She risked a glance back at Olivia. The duchess was watching with not a look of hope, or excitement, or malice. She was looking on with a very clear expression of guilt on her face.
Paige stood from her curtsey, smiled once more, and left the line.
  * * *
“Hey! Where'd you go? I was looking all over for you!” Do you know how hard it is to find a pretty girl in a nice dress in a ballroom choked with pretty girls in nice dresses?”
“Sorry. I got caught up talking to Hana.”
After the thing with the king, Paige had felt strangely paralyzed with anxiety. Well, maybe it wasn’t so strange. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that a total stranger had tried to humiliate her like a schoolyard bully. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that said stranger was gorgeous and intimidating and sexy and Paige had wanted for her to like her so, so badly. She knew that a trick like this alone wasn’t a big deal, but it hurt that much more coming from someone whom she had so desperately wanted to be some angel. So, instead of joining the growing crowd of women mobbing Liam, she had gone out to the balcony for a moment to breathe. That was where she had found Hana, and the two spent the next half hour talking. It had been nice to just talk to someone, with no expectations or rules. Hana was quickly becoming one of her favorite people at court.
“Wait, you know Hana? Actually, nevermind, we’ll talk on that later. In the meantime, you have to get in there with Liam. You’re one of the only people he hasn’t talked to yet.”
“You think he’ll be freaked out? We only knew each other for like a night before I decided to come out here, and now I’m trying to marry him? Isn’t that weird?”
“Ha! You think a night is too weird? That’s practically a year in royal time. He’s meeting some of these women for the first time tonight. If anything, you’ve got a leg up. He both knows and likes you.”
“If you say so.”
“And I do. Look, I think he’s free. Go, go, go!”
Maxwell nudged her forward, and she strode across the room to meet Liam. He was finishing up a conversation with someone, and he turned to look at Paige as the woman walked away.
“Hello, Lady-” He stopped short, his eyes going wide. “It’s you! Paige!”
“It’s me.” She smiled at him, hoping this was a pleasant surprise. Her hopes were confirmed when he broke out in a huge grin.
“Oh, Paige, I thought I’d never see you again! How are you even here?”
“The morning after I met you, Maxwell found me. He offered to take me here so I could represent House Beaumont and… become queen.” Though it was the truth, the thought of saying “marry you” out loud turned her stomach.
“That’s amazing! I’m afraid we don’t have too much time to talk, but that’s incredible news. For the first time all night, I’m actually enjoying a conversation.”
“Does this mean that you’re happy to see me?”
“Happy? I’m ecstatic. I truly like you Paige. I think we have something, and I’m glad we’re getting the chance to explore that together.”
Guilt stabbed at her insides. Liam looked so happy to see her, and yet she couldn’t say the same. She kept thinking back to the moment she saw Olivia. They had barely spoken, and still she had sensed more chemistry in those few minutes than she had after a whole night with Liam. He wasn’t the one she wanted, not even close. But he had deep, personal feelings for her. If she nailed those challenges, she had a real shot at being Liam’s wife. It was a thought that would have made so many of those courtly ladies cry tears of joy, but succeeded only in filling Paige with dread. He actually liked her. He wanted this.
“It’s a lot of pressure, isn’t it? All this, I mean. How are you holding up?” She hoped he wouldn’t notice how she changed the subject.
“I’ve known this was going to happen for some time now. It’s certainly not ideal, but perhaps it won’t be quite so terrible with you here.”
God, he really wasn’t making this easy on her, was he?
“Are the ladies here really that bad? Most of the people I’ve spoken to have been nice enough.”
“It’s not that the ladies themselves are bad, not at all. It’s the process I don’t enjoy. The whole thing is ridiculous and exhausting to all those involved. I know most of the women here, and they’re all incredibly smart and accomplished. And yet they’re being lined up like members of...of…” He paused. “What’s that american dating show? The one with the roses?”
“The Bachelor?”
“Yes! That’s it! This whole thing is one big episode of the bachelor.”
“I’m sorry you have to go through all of it.”
“Don’t be. It is my duty to serve my country however I can. If this is what I must do, so be it.”
Before Paige could respond, the guard behind Liam stepped forward to clear his throat. The prince winced apologetically at Paige.
“I’m afraid we’ve got less than a minute now. Before you go, can I give you a warning?” She nodded.
“This place, these people, are different. We’re not in New York anymore. There are codes, rules, that you’ll have to learn but never be taught. You’ll make friends and alliances, but be careful. Someone like you, here, can’t be too trusting. I don’t mean to scare you, but I care about you. I couldn’t stand to watch you get hurt.”
“Liam, I-”
“Ahem.” The guard coughed. “I believe it is time to move on, your grace.”
“Thank you, Bastien.” The prince turned back, looking regretful. “I’m so sorry, but I must move on. Shall we speak later?”
“Let’s.” She shot him what she could only hope to be a reassuring smile, curtseyed, and strode off, spotting a familiar figure by the drinks.
“Hey, Paige! It looked like that went well.”
“I’d say it did. He seemed happy to see me.”
“Of course he was! I told you he would be.”
“He was weirdly cryptic, though. He kept talking about how much of a drag this whole thing is, and how I need to make allies, and gather people I can trust, and watch my back-the list goes on.”
“Huh. That doesn’t sound like him. Are you sure you weren’t talking to Drake?”
“Unless Drake suddenly owns a body guard and a non-denim item of clothing, then no.”
“Hm. I’ll talk to him later. It’s probably just the pressure of everything getting to him. He’s not wrong, though. It’s good to form alliances with the other ladies. Most of them are outside right now. Go join them, grab a drink, socialize. Make some friends.”
“Got it. Any tips before I go? Who’s nice, who’s boring, who’s a snobby-ass bitch, et cetera.”
“Well, first off, save the cursing for later. One F bomb in here can and will get you kicked out. But to answer your question, Hana’s probably one of the nicest that you’ll meet. Friendly, not a known schemer. Penelope Ebrim is probably one of the more boring ones here, but she’s nice enough. Easily manipulated, but you didn’t hear that from me. Kiara Theron’s pretty interesting, but she can be sort of condescending, snobby. And if you want to talk about-” He paused.
“If you’re looking for witches with a b, then watch out for Olivia Nevrakis. She would kill, and I mean that literally, to become queen. She’s ruthless, cruel, and a known saboteur. Be on the lookout for her.”
“Oh. Good to know.”
“You’re welcome. Now get out there!”
Hiking up her skirts, Paige strode out into a moonlit garden. The women were talking amongst themselves as they grabbed flutes of champagne. She was scanning the crowd when she felt someone come up behind her.
Turning, she found Olivia glowering at her, her friendly smile from before replaced with a pissy sneer.
“You seemed awfully friendly with the prince earlier, hm? You didn’t say you knew him personally.”
“It’s none of your business how I know Liam.” Paige savored the way the duchess blanched at the way the other woman skipped Liam’s title. “And can we get back to the way you lied to me about the shoe-kissing thing?”
“Yes, yes. Come on, even you have to admit that was funny. You’re the new girl, you’re going to get tricked.” Perhaps this would have been more bothersome if Olivia had been able to look the other woman in the eye, or stop fidgeting with her gown.
“Well, it’s done. You’ve gotten in your dumb little joke, and now it’s over.” At this, the duchess’s head snapped up, her mopey exterior suddenly vanished.
“It’s over when I say it’s over.” She took a step closer, her eyes blazing. Her voice had gone low and dangerous, and Paige hated the way it made her shiver. She tilted her chin, trying to look unfazed.
“Listen to me. I know you’re used to getting whatever you want from people, but that’s not how this is going to go. I’m not your servant, I’m not your follower. Whatever you may believe, you’re not entitled to Liam’s hand, and you’re certainly not entitled to my respect, fear, or loyalty.”
Olivia stepped back, surprised. Some of the women actually gasped as they watched the whole thing unfold.
“Excuse me? Clearly, you’re delusional. I grew up with Liam. I know him better than you ever will. Maybe you made for a fun distraction, but you’re nowhere near wife, or queen, material. The women here have been trained since birth to marry a prince, and if you think that you can just waltz in here and steal that from us, you’ve got another thing coming.”
“Is that a threat?”
“Not a threat.” She was close, too close, and Paige wanted desperately to grab her even closer.
“A promise.”

Tumblr media
August 21th, 1969
Paris was amazing. It was no Kalokairi, but you loved it. It was a very different atmosphere, with nothing reminding you of Roger. At least, nothing that should remind you of Roger. And yet, you were always finding yourself thinking about him. Every little thing would make you think of him. So you were trying your best to keep busy, stay distracted.
You were in a nice little clothing store, twirling around to get a good look at the long orange skirt you were trying on.
“You should get it! It looks amazing on you, darling.” You spun around to see a man looking at you, a grin on his face. You smiled at him, giving it one last little twirl for good measure.
“You think so?” You asked him, biting your lip as you turned around to look into the mirror once more.
“Absolutely. You look fabulous. And I know what I'm talking about,” he confirmed, laughing lightly.
You turned back towards him, taking his whole look in. He definitely did know what he was talking about, his style was… interesting to say the least. But you absolutely loved it.
“Alright, guess I'm getting it then,” you said with a smirk, and he clapped his hands together.
“Fantastic! You'll shock everyone in Paris with your scandalous good looks!” He exclaimed excitedly. You chuckled at his words. He was quite dramatic, you thought, but he definitely seemed like a lot of fun.
You extended your hand out to him, and he gladly took it.
“I'm Y/N,” you said as you shook his hand.
“Freddie,” he replied. “It's an absolute delight to meet you, Y/N.”
You smiled at his choice of words, retracting your hand and shaking your head slightly in amusement.
“And you, Freddie.” You gave him a quick curtsy, making him erupt in laughter.
“Oh, I like you,” he said with a grin. “Would you care to join me for a walk around Paris?” He asked.
“I'd love to,” you said with a warm smile. “In fact, it'd be a delight,” you then added with a wink, making him laugh again.
“Well, come on then!” He exclaimed, extending his hand out to you, and you took it. You stopped by the cash register to pay for your skirt, and then you were on your way with Freddie, hand in hand.
~
You had been walking with Freddie for a while now, taking in all the wonderful sights of Paris. You’d just stopped by a big, gorgeous fountain. Deciding to take a little break there, you both sat on the border of it.
“This place is so different from Greece,” you mused. “But so beautiful, too.”
“You're from Greece?” He turned to you, a shocked expression on his face. “I thought you were from America!”
“Oh, no! I'm not from Greece, I am from the States. I've just spent the last month in Greece. On this enchanting little island. I'm honestly thinking of dropping everything back home and just move there forever,” you said, not quite sure whether you were joking or not. You had thought about it, for sure. But you'd wanted to stay there partly to be with Roger, would it be the same alone?
“That sounds amazing, you'll have to show me sometime!” He declared, and you laughed lightly.
“Alright, I will,” you replied, smiling at him.
You were enjoying the comfortable silence that set between you two, letting your mind drift off. After a few minutes though, you felt a splash of water hitting your arm, snapping you out of your thoughts.
“Pay attention to me, darling! I get bored easily,” He said with a laugh.
“Oh, is that so?” You smirked as you put your hand in the water, sending as much of it as you could straight to his face. “How's that for your boredom?”
He gasped at you in mock offense, and retaliated by sending a big splash your way. It wetted your hair and you groaned.
“Oh no you didn't!” You exclaimed, shoving him lightly. But he was laughing so hard already when you did that he lost his balance and fell into the fountain. You gasped, getting up and leaning down towards the fountain to see if he was alright.
“Freddie! Are you okay? I'm sorry!” You said as his head emerged from the water.
“Yes yes I'm alright darling, don't worry about it,” he replied.
“Here, let me help you.” You held your hand out for him to take. He reached out and took it, but instead of letting you pull him up, he pulled you down into the water with him. You let out a scream as you fell and got soaked, while he just laughed loudly.
“You ass!” You cried. “I guess I deserved it,” you added with a small laugh.
“Oh you definitely did,” he replied in between laughs, and you joined him in his giggle fit.
You had no idea how long you spent there in the fountain, laughing until it hurt. It was an amazing feeling, to just laugh like that.
“Hey! Vous deux dans la fontaine! Sortez tout de suite!” You heard someone yelling in French, and you turned around to see a police officer heading your way.
“Êtes vous sourd? Je vous aie dit de sortir! Maintenant, ou je vais vous arrêter!” He kept yelling, and now it was obvious he was talking to you and Freddie.
“I don't speak French, but that doesn't sound good, let's go,” he told you, and you nodded. He got up, taking your hand and helping you up. Dragging you out of the fountain and running away from the cop, and you both started laughing again as you ran.
~
After running through the streets of Paris for some time, trying to lose the cop, you were both exhausted. So you opted to go eat in a small cafe, your clothes were still wet, but they were slightly better after all the running and with the sunlight.
It was a really nice little place, with a bunch of bistro tables, and a piano in the corner. As you were finishing your last bite, Freddie rose from his seat, and you looked at him with a confused expression on your face.
He made his way to the piano, and started playing something you'd never heard before. But it was beautiful. You headed over to where he was, sitting next to him on the piano bench, admiring the way his fingers moved on the keys. He was truly talented.
“Wow, this is incredible, Freddie,” you whispered. “I've never heard this song before, what is it?”
“It doesn't have a name yet,” he said with an enigmatic smirk.
“Wait, did you write this?” You exclaimed.
“I did, yeah,” he replied, chuckling at your reaction.
“Wow!” you said again, this time even more impressed. “Well, it's really beautiful, I love it.”
He smiled warmly at the compliment. “Do you play?” he asked.
“Me? No. Always wanted to, but never got around to it,” you replied, a wistful look in your eye.
“Well, here, let me show you,” he said gently, taking your hands and placing them on the keys.
~
You had no idea how you went from Freddie teaching you how to play piano to being in his hotel room, in his bed. One minute, you were playing around, trying your best to do as he instructed you, and the next, he was asking you to come back to his hotel room and you were accepting. This trip was really turning out to be much more than you had bargained for.

How You Met - Akatsuki
Tumblr media
Hoshigaki Kisame
You and your puppy went to the lake to enjoy your day off, eat some nice food your mum made for you and have a small swim in the chilly water. As you prepared your blanket and food basket on the grass, the puppy ran past you, yipping happily and jumping straight into the deep part of the lake. Now, you did know how to swim, but you were better at floating in shallow water and not the most confident swimmer either, so clearly, you were rather worried that she might drown or something. Unfortunately, she suddenly sunk under water with a yelp, and you started panicking, looking left and right, asking for help, but nobody seemed to be around when needed. Freaking out, you took off your flip flops and ran into the water, but you suddenly stopped in in fear, as you saw a menacing shark fin circling around your sweet baby.
"NO! DON'T HURT HER! P/N, COME HERE, BABY! FAST!" You were shaking and crying in fear, thinking of the brutal way your baby is going to die, when, instead of the threatening predator, out of the water, came a very tall and well-built shark-like man, holding your puppy in his grasp, protectively, walking in your direction, as she kept licking him, gratefully.
You were now crying of happiness, beaming in glee at the sight in front of him. All senses lost you, emotions overpowering you, and the only rational thing that you could do was to hug the life out of this blue stranger, and he only chuckled and ruffled your hair.
"I honestly c-can't thank you enough f-for saving her. I don't know wh-what I would without her." you said stuttering from emotion. "No need to thank me. I am just happy to help save the life of such a lovely creature." he said, grinning. "Yeah, I totally get you. I'm like that too, since it's why I decided to become a vet since very little. This baby was left abandoned in my clinic after her owners decided that a surgery would be too much time and money wasted." you said, taking her in your embrace and rubbing your head to hers, lovingly. "I hate people like that. Animals are much better than humans, and on that note, lack any evil intent." he said, sighing. "I'm happy to hear that someone else agrees with me, after all this time. People always thought I was crazy for thinking that way." you laughed, seeing his grin widen. "Likewise, I have to say. Will you be around tomorrow too?" he asked, scratching her behind her ear. "I'm not sure. I had this day off from my clinic, but I live in the village nearby, if you want to see me or p/n. I'm uh...Actually the only viable medic in these neighbour villages." you scratched the back of your neck, grinning sheepishly. "If you wouldn't mind a weird, blue shark guy walking around and scaring your patients-" "Nah, only the humans. The animals will surely love you. I have no doubt about that! Hope I'll see you around!" you cut him off, in glee. "I'll see you around, then. Take care and see you later, squiddo." he gave a side-grin and a military salute, as he left the place, leaving you and your lovely puppy enjoy the rest of your day off.
Uchiha Itachi
You were a regular visitor at the vintage bookshop cafe in town, since you absolutely loved to relax on a plush armchair on the ground, with your favourite book and the hot beverage of your choice to soothe your nerves after a long day at work. You were friends with all the employees there, knew all the regular faces and occasionally helped out with what you could. Your favourite was putting back books and arranging them by certain criteria, breathing in the mersmerising scent of coffee and tea. One lovely day, as you were reading "Da Vinci's Code" in your usual silent corner, you noticed a brunet man entering the video silently, and yet, he captured everyone's eyes with his mysterious, intriguing aura, as he walked to the belletristic section, seemingly looking for a certain book.
After reading one more chapter, you look up again and see him in the same place, still searching, so you put the vintage bookmark at the page you were at, gently put it on the table next to your tea and made your way to him, tapping him on his shoulder, smiling softly.
"Hello. I'm sorry to disturb, but you seemed to need help looking for a book. Correct me if I'm wrong, however, and I can leave." you said, trying to look at his gorgeous onyx eyes. "Thank you for your help, miss. I was looking for 'The Picture of Dorian Gray'. I'd be grateful if you could help me find it." he replied, with a ghost of a smile. "Ah...Well, I believe I took the last copy of it, last week, I apologise. I can borrow it to you if you want. I'm almost always around here anyways." you said, recalling the amazing book you recently finished. "Are you not an employee here?" his eyebrow raised in confusion. "Nah, I just come around to relax and enjoy my time. I do tend to help around if I can, since they cant handle all the work, you know?" you replied, looking around in pride and content. "That sounds wonderful. Mind if I come around tomorrow to pick it up? I will return it as soon as I finish it." he said, looking grateful. "Sounds like a plan. Whenever you have time, I'll be here. That, over there, is my usual reading corner, but if you don't see me, just ask around for Y/N, okay?" you grinned, extending your hand for him to shake. "Uchiha Itachi. It was a pleasure meeting you. Thank you for your help, I have to leave now. Have a lovely day." shaking your hand, he made his way out of the bookstore, waving his goodbye at you. "It was nice meeting you too, Itachi." with a side-smile on your face, you turned back to your corner, very smug at the looks the others were giving you.
Deidara
Your village was very well known for its fabulous festivals- so great that people, both ninjas and commoners, would get out of their way to attend them as often as possible, since they provided delightful food from all over the world, great games, and the best part that always comes at night-
Fireworks!
And that is where you came from-
Since you were very little, you absolutely
LOVED
fireworks- the colours, the patterns, the noise, the smell, everything about them just made you incredibly giddy and overwhelmed with happiness, so, with time, you started creating your own fireworks, infused with elemental chakra and other tricky, secret stuff to make them even better than the common ones, which made the villagers happy to allow you to do every Firework Show, each night.
This night, however, the festival was in the same day as your birthday, which had you excited - tenfold the usual dose, if possible - and going up the hill, in your gorgeous traditional kimono that your mother gifted you, and needless you say, you put your best performance so far, incredibly satisfied at your work and the gorgeous display on the dark, starry sky.
"That was a great firework show, huh? Much more intriguing and fascinating than all the others I've seen so far. You did this, hn?" a deep voice said behind you, making you yelp in surprise and look back at the blond individual, with big, scared, fawn eyes. "Sorry if I scared you, yeah." he continued. "Just wanted to praise the artist and learn some tips from them." he grinned, confidently. "O-Oh! I'm really happy that you liked it! I did my best with this one! It's uh...A special occasion, might I say!" he smiled softly, trying to tone down your excitement. "Lemme guess, it's your birthday, hn? Special outfit for a special day, yeah." he said as he took out some clay his bag. "It is! Good guess, mate! What's this clay for?" you inquired, curiosity completely taking over you. "This! Is my art! Watch and learn, missy!" he gloated, as the mouths on his hands started shaping clay into a bird, showing it off. "Uhh~! So pretty! You're really talented!" you chirped, examining the birdy. "You think this is pretty? Look at this, yeah!" with that, he infused the clay figurine with his chakra and threw it high into the sky, then activated it by yelling "KATSU!", making it create a huge, fascinating explosion, leaving you awestruck, jumping up and down, clapping. "Art truly is an explosion, right?" you said, looking at him in admiration. "I couldn't have said it any better, missy. Glad to see there are other true art enthusiasts around, unlike my dull partner, hn! Well, gotta go now, missy!" he said, as he gave you another clay figurine. "Hope I'll see you again. After all, artists stick together, right?" you said, with a knowing smile plastered on your face. "You know it, missy! See ya around, yeah!" he waved, as he jumped on the back of a huge clay bird and flew away, leaving you look down at the little gift in your hands, smiling and blushing slightly. This sure was one hell of a birthday!
Akasuna no Sasori
Since you were  little, you've always been interested in herbal medicine and poisons, so much that you'd only research plants, both from your home and from abroad, which made you become a well-known merchant, which allowed you to travel all-over the world, practise and invent all sorts of antidotes and poisons.
You were very passionate about your hobby, and by now, you had several books in which you wrote every plant you've encountered, wrote its properties and where you saw it, and many other books for different potions, how you could make them, their effects and so on.
Obviously, you already knew everything by heart, but it was always nice to have it written down and drawn on paper, especially since drawing was also a passion of yours and it was the only way you could practise it.
You carried precious but dangerous information with you at all times, so it was little surprise when one day, when you finally found the perfect spot for new plants to document and draw, you got ambushed by a bunch of no-so-friendly looking ninjas who wanted to hurt you and take your precious notes from you, which angered you so. As soon as you found a run-down small shack, you hid in it and prepared one of your most powerful poisons so you could kill them all. The best part of this? You were completely immune to all poisons and venoms so no matter what the outcome would be, you wouldn't be injured at all. As soon as they entered the house, you raised your mask up to your nose and stealthily closed the door and with a simple jutsu and a very toxic and complex poison, you breathed out a deadly mist that engulfed the whole place, making the scums die in agony as you swiftly made your escape out of there, enjoying their screams of pain. The only problem was that as soon as you got out of there, you stretched your limbs and as you were about to take off your mask, you notice a red-haired man about your height with seemingly no emotions on his face, staring at you. Despite his stoic face, a glint of smugness was evident in his eyes.
"I heard you were good, but that was much better than expected. I can see why Leader wanted to recruit you." he said in a monotone voice. "I wasn't aware I was so famous..." you said quietly. "The day the Black Mamba won't be famous, I wouldn't be-" "Akasuna no Sasori." you chirped, cutting him. "Sorry, that was rude of me. Forgive me." "So you're aware of my title. Good. You'll be coming to the base without any struggle, then." he smirked at you with a slight patronising stare. "As long as I can continue my passions, I don't see any reason not to. Uh...Maybe the fact that you're criminals could be a strong point...But it would be much safer with than without you." you tried to speak coherently, trying not to make a fool of yourself in front of the person that became an inspiration when you were young. "Before that, uhm...Would you mind if I went home and get my things? I have a lot of important thi-" you started, but were quickly cut off by a dismissive hand. "I'm not a patient person. Go home, I'll be back to escort you to our base. Be ware, however, that I am not a patient person and my patience runs thin incredibly fast. Don't push your limits." he said, sternly. "I-I...Will keep that in mind. Thank you for giving me a chance." you said, low-key spazzic and wanting to get away from his intimidating stare. "Do not disappoint." he stated, before he left without a second word.
Well...That will proved to be a great opportunity for you to grow even further and become and even more qualified poison expert.
Pein
You were an amazing ninja, but after a horrible incident which got both your family and your team, consisted of your two best friends, killed, your village blamed and shunned you, making you be forced to go rogue and live the life of a criminal. You were scared and angry at the injustice that has fallen upon you, but there was nothing you could do, apart from living on your life the best you could. After that incident and your shunning, you became a target high in the Bingo Book's Top 10 Wanted Criminals, with a huge bounty on your head, due to your incredible stealth, tracking and mind-controlling skills, which is why, unknown to you, the Akatsuki were trying to recruit you.
Countless months passed since the incident, you managed to find a small but cozy place to live in and you got pretty comfortable with a common life, pretending to be a normal villager. You become the one to provide the small village with flowers and other city technology, so you were used to people knocking on your door, asking for commissions and other stuff to order and bring to the village store, so when a knock could be heard at your door, at first, you weren't surprised. However, that changed when, after so many years, you picked up the sense of an incredibly powerful chakra, which made you uneasy, to say the least, but if that person particularly went out of their way to find you, they were sure to know you were there, so acting anything but peaceful would not be in your favour.
Shivers ran over your body, anxious beyond belief as you quietly unlocked the door and opened it, hiding behind the door, gripping it, only peaking slightly at the stranger standing in front of me. He had short, messy orange hair, multiple piercings, the famous Rinnegan and the feared Akatsuki cloak. Biting your lip, you tried to calm your breathing and hold a decent conversation without showing your worry, since his stern glaze root you to the ground. By the way he was standing, fully composed and an air of authority around him, being here by himself, unlike the others, who seemed to always do missions with another partner.
"H-Hello. How may I help you?" you mustered, unsure of what to do. "You are Y/N L/N, am I correct?" he said in a low, monotone voice. "Y-Yes, who asks?" you clearly weren't surprised this strange knew your name, since you were a known criminal around the big villages. "My name is Pein and I am the Leader of the Akatsuki. I came here to recruit you, being one of those few people with more than average skills." he stated, not budging. "That's...Not so bad, actually. Thanks for considering me, I guess." you said, unsure of yourself, still biting your life. "I will be coming for you next week and I am expecting a definite answer by then." he said, nodding. "There's only one answer which would ensure I'll stay alive, anyways, so uh...You know the answer." you looked away, trying to escape his hypnotising stare. "Very well. Be prepared to leave next week. Also...I suggest breaking your justu. It is not going to work on me. Good day." as with that, he left you there, dumbstruck to the spot, still processing your encounter with the strongest criminal you've ever seen.
It was fun and you were looking forward to this new adventure.
Konan
All your life, you've been dealing with a lot of negativity from everyone around you, since you were the only ninja in the village and you were damned good at your job and with that, you gathered a lot of money and hate from others.
This, however, motivated you to become a better person and spread positivity in any way you could and that included telling people they are pretty, wishing them a great, sunny day and/or giving them flowers. It was, in your opinion, a very sweet way of making they day better and seeing them smile brightened up your own day as well. On the other hand, you only wished someone would one day do the same to you too.
And so, one day, you went to the market, saw some beautiful flowers, took three of them and left to walk around the city and settled for the nearby cafe. Unfortunately, it was all full, apart from one empty chair at a table for two where a gorgeous girl with blue hair was sipping tea and reading a book, which upon further inspection proved to be Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Grinning, yet still feeling shy, you went besides her table, trying to fake confidence.
"Hi! Would it be okay if I stay here? Everywhere else is full." you smiled kindly. "I don't mind." she said, barely stealing a glance at you, but gesturing for you to take a seat.
After taking a cup of hot chocolate, you took out your book from your bag, but something was urging you to talk to the girl, so that's what you tried.
"So, Mary Shelley, huh? I love her work too. She's a genius." you said, unsure. "She's amazing. This must be one of my favourite books and the perspective of ethics is very intriguing." she stated with the ghost of a smile on her face, finally looking at you.
Grinning at her, you continued talking to her about the morals and ethics of the book, the author and many other books with similar topics, until you both finished your drinks and you realised you had to go home. As a way to say goodbye, you paid the bill for the both of you, then smiled at her and handed her one of the flowers.
"It was lovely meeting you and I'm very happy that I got to meet someone as beautiful as you who also shares my tastes in books. You brightened up my whole year with this encounter and I only hope I could make you smile. I hope to see you again, if you wouldn't mind." you said with a grin on your face, gripping on your book, swinging back and forth on your spot, shyly. "I would love to. It was an honour meeting you." she smiled and you could swear the whole room lit up. "I'm Y/N. It was a pleasure meeting you too...?" you stated, hoping for her to tell you her name. "Konan. Thank you for paying for my tea as well." she said, extending her hand for you to shake. "Special people deserve special treatment. Will I be seeing you again soon?" you asked, hopeful. "You will. Farewell, Y/N. Have a bright day." she smiled at you, nodding and leaving the place.
It took you everything you had not to jump-hug her or kiss her cheek in happiness, but you managed to restrain yourself and only grinned at your success and went home, extremely proud of yourself.
Kakuzu
You were a retired ANBU ninja who decided that she's enough death in her life in a short amount of time, so you decided to take up healing and other relaxing activities, like tending to your new flower garden, crocheting and taking care of your kitten. It was all going great, so far, finally managing to get over your trauma and learning again how to relax and be happy. As you were tending to your little piece of heaven, you suddenly got startled by the sound of a tree breaking and a thud. You sighed, got up and went to investigate the annoying sound, which proved to be an unconscious, weird-looking, injured man. You checked to see if he had a pulse, which admittedly, he had, but at the same time, as you took off his mask, you immediately recognised him as one of the most mysterious and dangerous Akatsuki member, high-listed in the Bingo Book you constantly kept in your position. What was more, apart from his name and village, nobody knew anything about him, which made him all the more dangerous, since clearly, every person he encountered and fought never lived to tell the tale of his true powers...Or at least his chakra nature. Not that it mattered, anyways. You were no longer a ninja and nor were you intending to go back to that stressful life, but as soon as you finished your medical training, you swore an oath never to let any person die, if you can help (which, on the other hand, never states that I couldn't possibly maim them at least, thankfully.)
His injuries were incredibly bad and if he wasn't as weirdly, inhumanely powerful as he was, he wouldn't have survived another breathe - which now he could take with ease. Sighing after hours of healing, I stretch your arms, satisfied with your work, when suddenly, a hand grasped your neck and you see Kakuzu raised to a sitting position, his glare being ominously highlighted by his long hair, draping over his face.
"Rude...!" you gasped, trying to breathe, as you put your hands on his wrist, trying to make him stop strangling you. "I healed you!" "Not a wise decision." and although he said that, the grip on your neck became slowly softer until it completely released you. "Sheesh...Kinky. At least get me a cup of sugary coffee or something." you mumbled, rubbing your neck, looking away. "Why would you heal a criminal?"  he said, completely ignoring your previous reply. "Criminal or not, it is my duty as a healer to save people, evil or not. Can't do much about it, huh?" you stated, as a matter of fact. "You have a Bingo Book next to you and yet, you don't seem afraid. Why?" he asked, peering into your eyes. "The risk I took was calculated...But boy, am I bad at maths."you chuckled, trying to ease the tension. "Are you aware of the incredibly huge bounty on your head?" it was more like a statement than a question, as he handed you his own Bingo Book to look at. What came as a huge surprise, as you flipped through the pages you also had in your own book, was a page dedicated to yourself- Your name, your village, your chakra nature, your skills and an unimaginable sum under your picture. You whistled in shock at the page you were staring at, then you slowly and lifted your eyes, making eye-contact with the famous Bounty Hunter, as a chilled shiver took over your body
"So...You're going to kill me and hand me in for the money, huh?" you asked, unsure of his intentions. "Money runs the world and ethics nor morality do anyone a favour. It would be ridiculous not to do so." he stated, without any remorse. You gave a scared laugh, thinking about your last moments, but they never came. Kakuzu, instead of killing you, stood up, towering over your small frame "Fortunately for you, I still have an ounce of morality left. Enough so that I won't kill the healer who did me a favour, despite knowing who I was." and he left without another word, leaving you blinking in surprise. For some reason, this encounter left you with a giddy heart and not only from fear, but from a bit of admiration too.
Hidan
You weren't an actual ninja, being from a smaller village with very few actually training by going to other big village's Academies, but you and your mum learnt how to be very the best healers around, which was why the place you lived at became a small clinic for every kind of people to get treated, either for free, or make donations.
Today was significantly more boring than usual, no conflicts, fights or small 'wars' happening, so you decided to let your mother run the place while watching a movie on your laptop, as you went out to stretch your legs, enjoy some fresh air in the nearby forest, stand by the stream and take in the godly perfume of the flowers.
The birds' symphony that had you lose yourself on Cloud 9 was, however, abruptly stopped when out of nowhere, a screaming head was catapulted in your direction, at a rather fast speed. Your eye twitched at the disturbance and you merely cocked your own head to the left, in order to avoid the annoying thing projecting your way. Happy enough, it slammed into the tree close to you, which made it stop yelling...For a short while.
"Can you shut up already? Some people are trying to enjoy the peace and quite this place offers."you told the annoying talking-head next to you.
This head, apparently, had silver hair, slicked back , slightly messy from the throw, and amethyst eyes.
"The hell is your problem, bitch?! Can't you have any bit of sympathy for a decapitated man?!" he glared at you. "Can you blame me? I just wanted to have one free day to relax and instead I...You know what? This is actually hilarious. How did you end up like this?" you smirked at him, resting your jaw on your hand. "What does it matter?! Just stitch me back to my body and leave me alone!" he said, trying to roll on the ground. "And where is your body, anyways? I couldn't possibly dream of some magical way to detect your body in the middle of nowhere, right?" you chuckled at him, then grabbed him by the hair, making him look at you directly. "You're even more annoying than that asshole, Kakuzu! Argh, just wait till I see him! That way! Go, now!" he said, trying to spin to show you the direction. "Kakuzu? Is he your boyfriend, or what? Domestic fight?" you snickered, getting up and walking in the direction he was instructing. "Boyfriend?! What the hell is wrong with you, bitch?! That jerk is absolutely horrible and has no regard for my religion! Besides, who cares about relationships?! All I need is Jashin-sama's blessings and I'm good." he thundered, clearly offended by the idea of him being in a relationship. "I suppose that's why you're immortal, huh? No normal person could get decapitated in a revenge-porn acti-" "DON'T EVEN DARE CONTINUE THAT SENTENCE! Or, I swear, the first thing I do when I get back to my body is to make you into a sacrifice!" by this time, the foam forming in his mouth almost drooling down his chin in anger. "You forgot the key-point of this. I could just as simply toss you farther away, just like your partner, much smarter than you, did." you winked at him. "Here! There it is!" he yelled in slight smugness. "Ah...Poor you...You look like a fish on the land, struggling to breathe." you replied in fake sympathy, as you sat down besides his body, getting the emergency scroll from your purse and taking out your sewing kit to help the poor idiot become whole again. As soon as you finished the procedure, during which he kept continuously whining and chatting about weird stuff, he got up and rubbed his neck, stretched, clearly relieved to be back. "You know what? I think you did a much better job than that asshole! Thanks, bitch!" he said, beaming. "My name is Y/N and I'd like you to call me by my name, not some stupid nickname your boyfriend calls you." you glared at him. "You know wha-" he tried to continue the sentence, but he was cut off by a loud, angry, booming voice echoing through the forest.
                          "HIDAN!!!"
"Is...This your boyfriend?"
you cocked your head in confusion and amusement at their antics.
You waved at Hidan as he was violently dragged away by his partner.
Ah, what a happy couple~!

Hey! Can you list your top 10 favorite Tomlinshaw fics please
Hi anon, thank you for the ask! I sure can, although I recommend reading ALL the Tomlinshaw. It’s also impossible to choose just 10 because there are so many great ones so I’ve gone with the first 8 that sprung to mind for me and then a shout out to a few newer Tomlinshaw writers. There are undoubtedly fics and authors I love that aren’t on this list, which I’ve cobbled together pretty quickly, so I’m sorry if I’ve missed you out. Basically anyone writing Tomlinshaw should keep at it because we can never have enough Tomlinshaw :D
Full rec list below the cut.
I’m going to start with the (quite rightly) always recced Tomlinshaw to end all Tomlinshaws, the glorious I Had Rather Hear My Dog Bark At a Crow by sunsetmog (@magicalrocketships). There is a reason this appears on pretty much every Tomlinshaw rec list I’ve seen and the reason is, it’s brilliant. Haven’t read it? RUN, don’t walk and while you’re there read everything else by this fabulous, talented author. Go, go, go.
A surprise favourite for me (because I rarely read kid!fic) is the gorgeous Boys Are Blue by pillarboxred (@akai-coat). This is a nearly completed (17/19) multi-chaptered WIP which deals exquisitely with themes of loss, healing and love. I recommend all the fics by this super talented (and lovely) author, who I first discovered through the gorgeous Poses ‘verse but this one caught me off-guard and I am OBSESSED with it. If you’re not in love with little Pea and Nick and Louis even more after reading this, then you have A HEART OF STONE.
I love this charming time travelling Tomlinshaw wait for me to come home by carissima, in which Nick wakes up to find Louis Tomlinson in his bed. Louis who has travelled back in time and who Nick is apparently married to in the future. I challenge you not to feel happy and fall in love with Tomlinshaw just a little bit more after reading this.
Is there anything better than Louis and Nick being shit at communicating, shagging to ignore said bad communication and then eventually figuring out they might actually have to speak about their Pesky Emotions? No, there is not. I love I Could Stand You One More Night by Hllangel for exactly this dynamic.
I’ll surrender my heart (and swap it for yours) by clairdeloune is one of my comfort blanket Tomlinshaws. If you’re here for the angst and dramatics of bad Tomlinshaw communication and Nick sobbing to Pig over Louis this isn’t the fic for that, but that actually makes it a very nice change. It’s just a lovely story that I think is the reading equivalent of chicken noodle soup. Perfect to curl up with on a cold day.
Locked to AO3 users, Midnight Dancers by Hazmesentir is a ‘choose your own ending’ Larry and Tomlinshaw fic, although I confess to having only skimmed the Larry ending and always click straight through to the Tomlinshaw HEA. If confused boys falling in and out of love, angsty pining and some seriously hot scenes are your cuppa and you don’t mind seeing Harry ditched for Nick (if you choose Tomlinshaw as the ending) or reading Larry scenes, then I highly recommend this. Basically, Louis starts shagging Nick to get over Harry and Feelings Happen. Love it.
I really like the love and kickin’ ‘verse by camiii for its footballer Louis who is sexy, confident and knows exactly what he wants and Nick, who is enamoured. This is another one where it’s not all fighting and hate sex and it’s a really well-paced, enjoyable development of their relationship.
A lovely, contemplative, post-Breakfast and post-1D fic set in Paris is nothing is more fantastic. nothing is more tragic by alison. I really like the pacing in this and the slow burn. Reading this feels quite wistful and I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish.
I’m going to stop at eight because I want to make a broader rec list of a couple of newer authors writing Tomlinshaw right now with only one or two Tomlinshaw fics currently on AO3. I’m a big believer in SUPPORT NEW TOMLINSHAW AUTHORS because I’m greedy and would like them to write more fic for us!! I’d like to particularly point out hold on for one more day the first Tomlinshaw fic @disgruntledkittenface posted to AO3 which was, quite rightly, a big hit. This fic is my confirmed headcanon for the wild ride that was Louis on the Breakfast Show. I also have it on good authority that @silveredglass has a Tomlinshaw fic in the works which is probably going to kill me (can I just say hand kink *dies*) and they have now written two Tomlinshaw fics which are on AO3, including the excellent Raspberries where Nick and Louis work together in a bar in Bournemouth and try to fix the decor, each other and themselves.
Although they write a lot, @1000-directions has only a couple of Tomlinshaw fics posted to AO3 and they have such a great grasp of the ship - I love their stuff and always enjoy reading whatever they write. I adored this brilliant Pig POV she’s a good girl. The wonderful @jiksax is not a new writer but as of this moment they only have one Tomlinshaw on AO3, the amazing Press My Face Against the Clouds. I love how Jiksa writes Nick and Louis and Harry too, and I highly recommend this fic with cold nights, the Northern Lights and some glorious Tomlinshaw banter. Finally, like Jiksa, @nightwideopen is not a new author, but is prolific in Tomlinshaw and deserves particular mention not only because everything they write is a lovely read, but also for their Ace Fics series which features some Larry and some Tomlinshaw. It’s wonderful to see asexuality explored in a forum where popular media outlets would still have everyone believe fanfic is all about the sex.
I hope this was useful, thanks again for the ask and enjoy your reading!

Spencer & Locke 2 #3

Spencer & Locke 2 #3 Action Lab Danger Zone 2019 Written by David Pepose Illustrated by Jorge Santiago, Jr. Coloured by Jasen Smith Lettered by Colin Bell     Hovering between life and death, Spencer and Locke must make the ultimate choice as they journey across a terrifying and otherworldly battlefield. Meanwhile, Roach Riley aims to paint the town red — that is, unless an unexpected hero has something to say about it!     Holy guacamole, Avocado's from Mexico, while I am never sure what to expect out of this series it sure as the all mighty Ra wasn’t this. I love this Roach Riley and how David has warped this Beetle Bailey strip into something so incredibly psychotic. David’s a pretty cool dude and if I hadn’t met him and based off his work I might think he needs to be in a psych ward which makes me like him all the more honestly. This whole freakin issue was amazing from start to finish and surprisingly my memory fails me when it comes to Dan Tiffany but by power of the greyskull we’ll need a four issue series to see some of his past adventures and how he came to wear that suit among them!     I always enjoy seeing what nearly dead men dream of as they hover in that delicate balance between life and death. Still the kind of humour that David infuses into these pages is uncanny in it’s ability to take the darkness and make it that much more bearable to tolerate. Though I may have laughed while Roach was inside that cell and once it was done he was rescued or that the Nazi Snowmen were something out of Tales from the Crypt snow-globe all of it makes it all that much more palatable.     Then there is the characterisation that we are seeing here which is utterly fabulous. Goodness gracious great balls of fire seeing and meeting officially for the first time Captain Astounding all I have to say is like father like daughter. She is this little bright spotlight of hope and determination that she sees in her father that she’s trying to emulate and ya know what I love this! For me this is a different kind of love song—What if the world was crazy and I was sane Would it be so strange I can't believe that I am alone in saying The things I'm saying I am—part of you These are—universal truths We're all—part of the light that flows through everything.     Now I am a huge fan of the interiors here. Whether what we see is like the Sunday Funnies or the normal look tone and feel it all has this truly wonderful sensibility to it that captures your imagination and creativity. I am also a fan of the way that we see the composition inside the panels including how we see the utilisation of the backgrounds. Plus I don’t know what it is or how he’s done it but Jorge has made Locke look like on hell of a hot Daddy! I believe the term is DILF nowadays lol.     The linework is gorgeous and the way the varying weights are utilised to create the attention to detail that we see is sensational. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show a strong, talented eye for storytelling. The colour work here is also top notch. Again from the Sunday Funnies to the black and white to the full colour press what we see is skilled colouring from Jasen. The way we see light sources being utilised and the shading, colour gradation and blocking as a result makes me happily impressed.      David is writing a hell of a book here and this is just the beginning of his career. Again I have to stress to you all that Action Lab is home to a slew of up and coming talent and from the looks of things that talent, David, Jorge et.al. Is already here!

everything carries me to you: part two (thorcid) - featherpluckn
AN: Thank you so much to Mindy and Lucy for talking me through the Writer Crazies :D
Jamin should have known this was all going to go tits up.
He had convinced  himself that he and Shane were friends. They could be just friends. Even if he felt differently or thought Shane felt differently it didn’t matter. At this point, there were other queens around them almost 24 hours a day, not to mention cameras and microphones recording their every move. So this was definitely not the time nor the place to have some soul searching heart stopping realization about feelings he may or may not harbor for Thorgy motherfucking Thor.
The show was a pressure cooker. The producers moved them through the day at breakneck speed only to put them somewhere to wait while they repositioned cameras or lights until everyone’s sanity was in question. Honestly, it was a lot but it was fun. Jamin was prepared and felt confident he could deliver on the runway if nowhere else.
Case in point, the first challenge. The dress he constructed was gorgeous, creative, and most of all left everyone gagging.  When it was all said and done, Jamin was in the top two with praise from the judges and a great start to the competition.
When everything finally wrapped up that day the queens were all waiting for the vans to take them back to their hotel. Technically, they weren’t supposed to be interacting but everyone was buzzing with the fact they made it through the first challenge.
Jamin was talking with Bob about that hideously fabulous purse he made when he felt a distinctly pointed chin land on his shoulder.
“Congratulations, Betty! That dress was amazing!” Shane’s breath was way too close to Jamin’s ear making him shiver involuntarily. Shane didn’t comment on it. Just quickly squeezed his shoulders and moved around to stand beside Bob.
“What about my dress, Thorg? I was serving you newly-single-mom-on-a-budget-at-Wal-Mart realness!”
Shane practically rolled his eyes to the back of his head, “It was a beautiful garment made out of curtains, Bob.”
Bob grabbed him and kissed him on both cheeks, “Bless you, my clown child.”
“Get the fuck off of me, bitch” Shane said through a laugh, slapping at him. Bob skipped away chuckling, leaving Shane and Jamin semi alone for the first time since they arrived.
“We’ve been around each other for days and I haven’t gotten the chance to ask how you’ve been the last couple of months.”
“Busy as always, girl!”
Jamin really tried to stop what came out of his mouth next. He really did. It wasn’t his business.
What or who Shane did was absolutely none of his business and he tried to tell himself that. But it didn’t exactly work.
“How’s Sam?”
Shane looked perplexed for half a second, “Who?”
“Sam. Your boyfriend. You introduced me to him the last time I saw you.”
“Oh! Sam! I guess he’s good. I wouldn’t know. We only hooked up a few times and left it at that. There was no chemistry, you know what I mean?  Definitely not my boyfriend.”
Well, then. Those homicidal fantasies seem a bit like overkill in hindsight. “Yeah. I know what you mean. Like us?” Jamin wasn’t sure what possessed him to bring that up in the middle of this Stress Circus but he did. So that’s that.
Shane tilted his head and looked at Jamin like he had grown a foot out of the side of his face.
“No. Absolutely nothing like us.”
Fuck.
“Jamin, do you reall-” but he never got the chance to hear the rest of that sentence. The vans pulled up with the worst timing in the history of the universe. Shane just gave him half of a smile and squeezed his hand. The whole time the PAs were corralling them into the vehicles Shane kept stealing glances at Jamin. It was unnerving in the best way possible.
*
Jamin knew Thorgy would do amazingly well. He wasn’t lying when he told Shane that he deserved to be on this show. They even got to work together in most of the group challenges which didn’t help the annoying ache starting to develop every time he was in close contact with him.
Obviously, the two had history but he could count the times they had been around each other without sex being involved on one hand. The addition of clothes and lack of lust made it all too clear that Shane was someone he wanted to get to know on a real level. With this realization, Jamin started noticing little things about Shane through the haze of glitter and runway lights.
First, Shane was fucking adorable. That’s not a word Jamin usually used to describe people or really anything for that matter but it fit in this situation. There was the way his eyes scrunched behind those Harry Potter glasses when he smiled. The way he almost knocked out whoever he was talking to with his hands. The way he genuinely gets excited about anything and everything. Finding Jamin’s eyes first after any announcement in the workroom to share in his enthusiasm, or at least that’s what he tells himself.  Shane is a six foot tall grown ass man but Jamin wants to stick him in his pocket to protect him and hiss at anyone who would do him harm.
Second, Shane was a huge flirt. Jamin knew that on some level but with this new clarity of what his feelings towards him actually were it became much more acute. The man had absolutely no shame in staring at Laila’s ass and telling Laila she had a nice ass and smacking said ass and giggling repeatedly about Laila’s reaction. Jamin knew, intimately, that he couldn’t resist a nice butt. He couldn’t sit properly at work for almost two days after Shane realized that wasn’t padding under all of Betty’s dresses. The thought of someone else getting all of Shane’s attention was confusingly infuriating.
Third, Shane was super fucking in his head. About everything. All of the time. This was an observation that was a bit more concerning. He truly was a Gemini in every sense of the word. Jamin could tell Shane knew he was talented. He had confidence and wasn’t afraid to go for what he wanted. On the flip side, he stressed about everything. Shane worried about getting every beat of his verse in Bitch Perfect absolutely in sync, which of course he did. It looked like he was actually fucking singing.  It should have made Jamin mad because they were competing against each other but he was just so proud of him.
Shane ran Naysha through the choreography for the Empire challenge so many times Jamin was pretty sure everyone on their team could do it blindfolded. Even after he received nothing but praise from the judges, he knew it bothered him that he didn’t win. They de-dragged next to each other and Shane spent the entire time wondering out loud what he could have done differently. Jamin finally couldn’t take it anymore and had to try to make him see what everyone else was seeing.
“Thorgy they loved you. This is a marathon, not a sprint. What matters is winning when it counts. You just have to do well enough to make it to the end.”
“I know. I know. I’m sorry for unloading all of this on you. I should keep the voices in my head where they belong.”
Jamin gently touched his shoulder to get his attention. “There are worse things than unloading on a friend. It’s okay to feel what you’re feeling but don’t let it get in the way of what everyone else is trying to tell you.”
Shane had stopped fussing with his tights and padding and was staring at Jamin. It looked like he wanted to say something but looked around and stopped himself. He touched the hand sitting on his shoulder and nodded instead.
Jamin smiled, nodded, and cleared his throat, “And stop talking about my friend Thorgy like that, bitch.”
Shane cackled and threw his hip pads at Jamin’s head.
Team NYC got to work together for the New Wave challenge. It all seemed like a good idea at the beginning but Jamin quickly realized putting personalities like Bob and Thorgy together could be fucking amazing or result in the show’s first triple elimination. By dinner break that night, everyone was exhausted. They had finally gotten lyrics written, recorded their track, and started on some choreography. The queens were all sitting around chatting about their favorite meals back home. Jamin looked up to find Shane’s eyes in commiseration because if he heard ChiChi talk about turkey necks one more time he was going to scream.
But Shane wasn’t sitting around the table with everyone, which was so unlike him Jamin got a bit worried. He was off to the side at a table by himself with his headphones in picking at a burrito bowl. If he knows Shane at all, he knows he is sitting over there dwelling on every little thing he did today that could be perceived as a mistake. Well, that wouldn’t do.
Jamin knows Shane only had a yogurt for breakfast and no lunch, claiming he was “too deep in the artistic process” to take a break. He couldn’t do much about turning off the voices in Shane’s head but he could make sure he had something in his stomach.
Jamin snagged a packet of those crumbly goddamn granola bars from the craft service cart that Shane liked so much and made his way over.
He sat down on the stool beside of him and bumped his shoulder. “Hey what did that chicken ever do to you?”
Shane looked down and seemed surprised he had shredded his chicken beyond recognition. He took out one of his earbuds and cracked half of a smile. “He knows what he did.”
Jamin laughed and tossed the granola bars in Shane’s lap. “Here. At least eat these. I don’t want you passing out while we’re trying to learn our number.”
“I’m really too worried to eat. I think Bob hates me. I’m going to be on a team that completely fucking bombs a music challenge. Me! Music! Losing! That headpiece needs to be repainted because it just looks, I don’t know. Off? My knees are killing me and-”
“Wow, Thorgles. How does that all fit in your head? Bob doesn’t hate you. He’s just really fucking annoyed with you right now and I think it’s safe to say the feeling is mutual.”
“You got that right.”
“And I take offense to the fact that you think we are going to bomb this music challenge. We’re Team NYC! We got this! And oh my sweet baby Jesus if you redo that headpiece one more time I’m going to stick it up your ass.”
“I might like that.”
Jamin chuckled, “You probably would. For real though, I know you’re probably too keyed up to eat and it really is up to you but try to eat something, please.”
Jamin had never seen someone tear open a package more aggressively than Shane in that moment.
“You better be glad you were just really fucking sweet to me”
Shane laid his head on Jamin’s shoulder and offered him the other ear bud. “Do you want to listen to the song with me a couple of more times?”
“As long as you don’t get crumbs all over me.”
Shane took an obnoxiously big bite of his snack making pieces of granola fly everywhere. “I make no such promises.”
“Asshole.” Jamin put the earbud in and smiled.
Their team ended up killing the performance. Betty was safe but it was close. He thanks the old gods and the new for his ability to change species. Of course, Thorgy was in the top yet again and yet again Jamin was surprised at the swelling affection and pride he felt for his friend.
When they finally made it back to the hotel and were waiting for the elevator to take them to their rooms for the night, Shane leaned over and whispered in his ear, “Thank you for last night. It helped me get out of my head even if it was just for a little while.”
“Anytime. It was nothing.”
Shane shook his head and kissed Jamin’s cheek, “It was everything.”
*
Jamin getting eliminated was a definite buzzkill. His flight back to New York didn’t leave until early the next morning. He decided he was going to order a pizza and watch some shitty Desperate Hoarding Housewives of American Pickers marathon before passing out face down in a lumpy hotel mattress.
While he was finishing up his second slice and contemplating just what made someone want to save 257 decapitated dolls, Jamin thought he heard someone knocking on his door. If that PA was here to harass him about packing again he was gonna scream.
But it was not a PA.
Or it wasn’t only a PA.
Shane was standing there looking nervous as hell with the piece of tape from Jamin’s door hanging from his hand. Standing beside of him was an even more nervous PA hold the roll. Eric…maybe? Honestly, it’s hard to tell them apart.
“Can I come in or are you going to get me sent home too?”
Jamin picked his jaw up off the floor and pulled the door open to let Shane through “Of course. Sure, yeah come in”
Eric chose this time to find his voice “I think I can give you 15 minutes. Just listen for the knock, Thorg”
Shane didn’t even turn around when he nodded and launched himself at Jamin before the door was even completely closed.
The hug felt like fucking coming home. Jamin buried his nose in the fabric of Shane’s shirt and breathed and his whole body came alive.
“How in the hell are you even here right now?”
“Sometimes it pays to be nice to people”
“Oh does it. I’ve nev…”
But that was apparently all Shane cared to hear about the subject because he closed the distance between them and dropped his forehead down to meet Jamin’s.
“I can’t believe you’re leaving me alone with these bitches.”
Jamin thought he felt wetness fall on the front of his t-shirt but when he tried to look up Shane was too close to focus on and anyway what he said next made it hard to think about anything other than what the fuck he was going to do without seeing this beautiful man every day.
“I am going to miss you so fucking much.”
And all Jamin could think of in response was to use his death grip on the back of Shane’s neck to pull him in for a kiss. It had been too long.
Shane immediately deepened the kiss, licking at the seam of Jamin’s lips. There were few things in the world Jamin liked more than making out with him. It was somehow familiar and brand new all at once but when he had imagined kissing Shane again, it did not usually include the taste of their tears.
Jamin pulled away forcing Shane to look at him.
“Hey. It’s going to be okay.”
“I know.” Shane sucked in a deep breath, centering himself and seemingly coming to some sort of decision. “I know. We only have like 10 minutes so just shut up and let me send you home with a proper goodbye.”
And at that point he was done talking.
Shane walked Jamin backwards toward the bed while taking off his shirt. Jamin hit the mattress and sat down hard watching Shane drop to his knees.
The thought of what was coming had Jamin tenting his sweatpants and Shane hadn’t even touched him. Shane pulled him in for a quick kiss and reached for his waistband pulling both pants and underwear down and off in one quick motion.
Shane kissed his way down Jamin’s neck and chest, biting at his collarbone and sucking a bruise above his heart.
And you know what? Good.
He wanted something beautiful to look at tomorrow.
Shane ran his hands down his sides and over the V low on his waist and Jamin shivered, gooseflesh popping up everywhere he touched.
He took Jamin’s cock in his hand and used his thumb to spread the moisture already gathered there. Shane licked his lips and moaned moving his hand to the base and using his tongue to lick up the vein on the underside.
Jamin’s strangled cry was much louder than he anticipated and he prayed that Eric had moved further down the hall or he was going to get one hell of an earful. He gathered dreads in his hands moving them out of the way and looked down to find Shane’s eyes already searching for his.
Not breaking eye contact, Shane slowly stroked from root to tip and sucked just the head of Jamin’s cock into his mouth moving his tongue over the little ridge on the underside knowing how much that would turn him on.
And of course it did.
“Fuck, Shane,” Jamin whispered as he took him into his mouth fully. Shane’s mouth met his hand at the base and sucked all the way back up repeating the motion until Jamin was having a hard time not bucking into his mouth. Shane squeezed his thigh, moved his hand, and gave a slight nod and that was all the permission Jamin needed. He used his grip on Shane’s hair thrust up into his mouth and he felt Shane moan around him.
That mouth is a fucking sin. How did live so long without it? No one should be able to bring someone to a babbling incoherent  mess with just their mouth. And he definitely was. Jamin was thrusting shallowly into the tight wetness and of course Shane was taking it and then some.
Shane put his free hands to good use, gently squeezing and tugging at Jamin’s balls until he was way too close too soon. He didn’t want this to end but everything tightened and his breath grew increasingly short.
The headboard was knocking against the wall but that didn’t make sense and then he heard a distinct whisper scream.
“Um, Thorg? Hurry up! Mike will be back any minute and I..”
Seriously?! Jamin had zero time for this at the moment. “FUCK YOU ERIC!”
Jamin felt slightly bad about screaming at the man making this possible but who the fuck cares right now? He could hear Shane’s moans and it turned him on to no fucking end to know this was something Shane needed and that he wanted and that he risked so much to do.
“Ohhhh. Fuck! Sh-Shane I’m gonna come,” said Jamin on a gasping breath.
Shane’s only response was to grab Jamin’s hips flicking at his tip with his tongue and then sucking hard , doubling down on the fierce pace of his hand.
And fuck. How was he supposed to hang on after that?
Jamin came with a strangled moan, jerking into the wet heat of Shane’s mouth.
After what seemed like hours, he took a deep  breath and looked down finding Shane grinning with his head leaning on his thigh.
“Hi.”
“Hi, honey.”
Shane giggled and kissed every part of Jamin he could reach on the way up to his lips. It was such a fucking turn on to suck his tongue into his mouth and taste himself. He pulled the younger man into his lap fully clothed and could feel Shane’s erection pressing into his belly.  Jamin snuck his hand between them and into Shane’s pants. He felt himself start to harden again at the sound Shane made when he wrapped his hand around his cock.
Shane broke away from Jamin with a gasp, “I don’t think we have time for that.”
“Well. I don’t think it’s very fair.” Jamin whispered in Shane’s ear, “What about you?.”
Eric knocked on the door quietly but forcefully. “Guys we really need to get a move on.”
Shane whined a little and shook his head, “No. This was for you. It looks like I’m just going to have to take care of this in the shower later,” He reached down and squeezed what he could reach, “thinking of all the things I could do to that gorgeous ass. I’ll be all wet and soapy and moaning your na-”
Jamin cut him off with a searing kiss, stealing both of their breaths but Shane broke away quickly scrambling out of Jamin’s lap and tossing him his sweatpants.
“Cover up before I take advantage of you all over again. Oh, and this is mine now. You’re never getting it back.” Shane picked up the shirt Jamin had been wearing and threw it over his shoulder.
Jamin shook his head and stood up pulling on his sweat pants. He reached out and laced their fingers together bringing Shane’s hand up to place a kiss on his knuckles. “I really don’t want you to go but I think you should before that PA has a stroke.”
Shane followed Jamin to the door laughing. They stopped for one last hug. Shane mumbled into Jamin’s neck “I expect some one-on-one time when we are both back home.”
Jamin kissed his temple and pulled back opening the door and winking, “I’ll try to pencil you into my busy schedule but I think it will be a while before you get back. You got this Thorgy, don’t let them get to you.”
Shane smiled and shimmied his shoulders before hurrying down the hall to his room.
Eric was standing there with the tape all ready to go.
“Thanks for doing this, man. I really appreciate it.”
“It seemed really important to Thorgy. So, I figured it was worth it. I hope you know what you have there.”
“I think I’m starting to figure it out.”

è il mio amore
comission fic for becca (@beccadrawsstuff)!!! She requested some fic about her wonderful oc Hana who i love and is my neice and i was more than thrilled to do so, and in the process i got very attached to literally every ch in this au aha :) you can find more about hana here, and the title comes from this beautiful song that becca said is hana’s free skate music!! becca, you’re awesome <3333
Fuyuko was humming as she danced around her room, cleaning up some of the objects scattered about, and Hana couldn’t help but watch her from her spot on the bed, admiring how pretty and graceful Fuyuko was.
“Sorry, what does your free skate outfit look like again?” Fuyuko asked, looking over her shoulder and smiling at Hana, which never failed to set off the butterflies in her stomach. “I remember you said it was a flower, but I can’t seem to remember which one, sorry.”
“No, don’t be sorry,” Hana smiled back, knowing how spacey Fuyuko was, “It’s based on an amaryllis, with a lot of-“
“Oooh, those are gorgeous!! I’ve been meaning to add them to my garden!” Fuyuko chirped, picking up a small bag from her desk and flopping down next to Hana as she rifled through it. “Now, let me think…what makeup would look great and not be too awful to do often?”
“You don’t have to-“
“Hacchan, I told you, I really want to!” Fuyuko’s smile was practically sunshine, and Hana felt herself blush as she looked away, a smile of her own appearing as a flurry of butterflies erupted in her stomach.
“Okay.”
“Good. Now, what kind of pink is it? Do you have any pictures or-“
The last note faded, and Hana let out a deep breath, smiling to herself. Almost there.
"Hana!!!" a voice suddenly called from the entrance, and Hana whipped her head around to find Fuyuko standing at the wall, beaming. "That was beautiful! If you don't medal at this competition, the judges must be crazy or something!"
Hana felt herself blushing, playing with the ends of her ponytail as she looked down at the ice, stammering, "Ah...thank you! You-you're early!"
"Well, I finished with my bees early and it's such a lovely day for a walk, and-oh! Forgive me, you must be Hana's coaches. I'm Fuyuko, she talks a lot about you!"
On the other side of the rink, Hana saw Viktor and Yuuri watching them, both smiling like they were planning something.
“Oh, hello! Hana talks a lot about you as well!” Viktor chirped, skating over to Fuyuko. Hana could only watch as he continued, “She mentioned you weren’t much of a skater, is that right?”
“I’m an awful skater, Hana is just too nice to say so.” Fuyuko laughed, and Viktor looked behind him at Hana, then his husband, still grinning like he had a plan.
Viktor winked at Hana before turning back to her friend, offering, “Well, since you’re here, why don’t you skate for a bit? Hana does need too cool down after practicing!”
"I think that's a lovely idea. It's always more fun to skate with someone else." Yuuri added, and Hana suddenly found herself wishing that a hole would open up in the ice and swallow her whole. They couldn't be serio-
"Oh! I mean, I usually do nothing but fall over. I wouldn't want to stop any of you from doing what you need to do." Fuyuko replied, biting her lip.
"Oh, no, it's no problem!" Viktor grinned, leaning a bit closer to Fuyuko, continuing in a stage-whisper, "This old man could use a moment to sit down instead of skate, anyways."
Fuyuko laughed a bit at the joke, and then looked over at Hana. "Well, alright, if Hana doesn't mind?"
Viktor turned to Hana, eyes wide and excited like one of his puppies, and Hana could practically feel Yuuri giving her a similar look from behind.
"I-no, I don't mind." Hana found herself saying, a wave of nerves hitting her as she watched Fuyuko beam at her.
"Okay! Let me go grab some skates!" she announced, rushing off, leaving Hana and her two senseis alone in the rink.
"What just happened!?" Hana asked, looking at Viktor, who looked absolutely thrilled.
"You're going to skate with your friend for a little bit!" he cheered, skating over to her and hugging her. "Oh, this is going to be so great, you'll skate around the rink together, maybe hold hands a bit as you help her get better-"
"What."
Viktor seemed to deflate a little. "I thought you had a crush on her?"
Hana felt her face turn bright red, frantically looking around him to make sure Fuyuko hadn't re-entered the room. "Oh my god, shishou!"
"I think you two would be absolutely adorable together-"
"Vitya, love, you're embarrassing her." Yuuri interrupted, and Viktor hummed and moved away from Hana over to where his husband was leaning against the wall.
"But you saw it too, ri-"
Yuuri interrupted with something in English, and Viktor leaned his head back and laughed like a child, bright and thrilled, before replying excitedly, moving slowly closer to Yuuri, who didn't seem to mind, shoving Viktor gently when he pressed an enthusiastic kiss to his cheek.
"They're really sweet together, aren't they?" Hana heard from behind her, causing her to jump slightly before she realized it was just Fuyuko, wobbling heavily on battered, borrowed skates.
"Oh, let me help you get over to the wall!" Hana fretted, reaching for Fuyuko's hands, trying to be gentle as she pulled her to the side of the rink.
Fuyuko laughed a little breathlessly, pulling away from Hana to grasp onto the wall like it was a life preserver. "See, I told you I'm awful."
"No, you're doing just fine!" Hana told her. "My mom can't even move an inch on the ice before she falls, and you made it to center rink and then over here without falling! That's really good!"
"Well, from there to over here isn't that far. And you were helping me a lot." Fuyuko said, modestly, but smiling anyways. "So, what do you want to do?"
"Well...maybe we can do a couple of laps around the rink? It'll probably help you get used to standing and moving about, especially since we're already near the wall." Hana suggested. Fuyuko smiled, and Hana felt butterflies in her chest.
"Sounds perfect." she agreed, holding out her hand to Hana, biting her lip again before saying, "For balance?"
"R-right." Hana stuttered, taking her hand and slowly starting off around the rink, blushing at the looks she saw Yuuri and Viktor giving her.
Almost the second Hana, Viktor, and Yuuri set foot in the rink being used for her first competition, reporters surrounded them, microphones and cameras right in their faces as they all rapidly asked questions.
“Mr. Katsuki! Mr. Nikivorov! What are you doing here?”
“It has been a long time since your retirement from the skating world, what kind of comeback to the skating community can we expect?”
“Are you two now in the business of coaching young juniors prospects?”
“Which of you choreographed the routines?”
“Who is this young lady? What can we expect from her today?”
Her coaches both put a firm arm around her and steered a very dazed Hana away from the throng, neither saying a word until they were in the locker room.
“Oh, my god, I forgot how awful they are.” Yuuri sighed, slowly lowering himself down to the bench. “The only thing I never missed about competing.”
“There weren’t that many out there, lubamoya.” Viktor laughed, sounding a little breathless as he sat down next to him.
“And I forgot how much you love the attention.” Yuuri grumbled at him before looking up at Hana, “Are you alright, Hacchan?”
“I-you two are-oh my god?” Hana stammered. “You are the Yuuri Katsuki and Viktor Nikivorov??”
Both men blinked at her.
“…Yes?” Viktor replied. Hana stared.
“Oh my god.”
“…You didn’t realize until now?” Yuuri asked.
“No! I just thought-well, I just thought you were this really cute couple that just happened to be great skaters! I didn’t-I didn’t really think it over! Oh my god, I’ve watched your old routines so many times, how did I not realize you two were so huge when you were competing-“
She was interrupted by her coaches’ laughter, both of them leaning into each other with the force of it, and she stared at them in disbelief.
"This isn't funny!!"
"We thought-we thought you were being polite not to mention our skating careers!" Yuuri giggled.
"This actually explains a lot!" Viktor snorted.
"I-honestly!" Hana huffed, adjusting her ponytail. "Yeah, thinking about it, that makes a lot of sense, but I still-how was I supposed to know!"
"Oh, Annushka, you wonderful girl. Give me a hug." Viktor requested, standing up and continuing, "This doesn't change anything, you know. You're fabulously talented, and I just know you're going to be fantastic!"
"Honestly, I like that you didn't know." Yuuri hummed, joining the hug. "It makes how we met you even better, because you were just genuinely asking two people you thought were talented, not because we were famous skaters."
"I-you guys are the best." Hana told them, hesitating for a moment before she asked, "Do you really think I'm going to do okay today?"
"Absolutely." Both coaches said in unison, the hug continuing a moment longer before Viktor pulled away and clapped.
"Now! Time to get ready to blow all the others away!"
"Everyone else is so talented." Hana murmured, watching the competitor before her dance almost effortlessly across the ice, the music loud in her ears as it finished.
"So are you." Yuuri reassured, his hand on one of her shoulders. "It's going to be alright, Hacchan. No matter what, me and Viktor are rooting for you."
Hana frowned, looking out at the mass of people in the stands. "You'll probably be the only ones."
"Shh, they'll fall in love with you the second you take the ice." Viktor said, watching them announce the scores of the last girl.
"But-" Hana swallowed, nerves making her stomach twist. "But there's so many people, and what if I fall or mess up or-"
"Hana." Viktor interrupted, putting his arm around her. “It’s going to be alright. You’re going to be amazing, and no matter what, we’re here to support you.
“And if it gets too overwhelming, find one thing to focus on.” Yuuri added, absently smoothing her hair as he looked around the rink. “A poster, the wall, a feeling, a person…”
Viktor looked at his husband and beamed. “Yes, that’s perfect.”
“It helped me.” Yuuri hummed. “You know the routine like the back of your hand. Don’t overthink it. And no matter what, we are proud of you, alright?”
Hana’s name was called, and she skated out to center rink, feeling her limbs shaking as she tried to find something to focus on in the immense crowd of people and shove away the heavy feeling of doubt in her heart.
Suddenly, she heard a yell from her left. “GO!!! HANA!!! YOU’RE THE BEST!!!!”
Hana looked over, surprised, to see Fuyuko there, beaming at her from the very front, holding a bright yellow sign with Hana’s name on it and a doodle of a flower, giving her a thumbs up.
And just like that, Hana knew what to focus on, feeling a strange sort of calm wash over her as she smiled back at Fuyuko, took her stance, and the music began.

Frisky (& Mannish) Interview
The Melbourne International Comedy Festival brings a lot of fresh talent to Australia, and, being one of the biggest comedy festivals in the world, it helps to showcase some of the biggest talent also.  One of the newest drawcards to this years MICF is Frisky & Mannish, who are well loved in the UK for their Cabaret-style mash-ups.  Be sure to check out their website (link at the bottom of the page) and read the hilarious bio of these characters.
I had a chat with Laura Concoran (aka Frisky) about their show, and their time in Australia … as well as a bit of GaGa!
GQ:  Hi Laura, how are you?  How are you enjoying your time on tour so far?
LC:  We’re having an absolute ball.  It’s the first time we’ve been to Australia and New Zealand, where we’ve just come from, and we’ve just been blown away by the warmth and loveliness of the Aussies and Kiwis, we’ve had the best time that we could ask for, and the audience has been great as well!
GQ:  While you’ve been here, have you been up to anything interesting at all in your time off?
LC:  It’s funny, we were in Sydney just before we went to Wellington, and were playing in the studio at the Opera House as part of Mardi Gras, so we did go out and have a bit of fun with all the parties.  Normally they have the parade, then the parties, but this time they were a week apart, so we had twice the partying happening in Sydney, and an enormous parade, it was just brilliant, and we were having an amazing time with it, then the party was a week later, and that was one of the messiest things I’ve ever witnessed.  It was like a music festival crossed with a rave, it was just huge and sweaty and brilliant.  Seeing George Michael desperately miming to his own material was just so heart-warming, and getting the audience to sing all the hard bits, it was just a master-class celebration.  So we had an awesome time partying in Sydney, and have just been trying to get out and see as much as we can, cos it’s our first time here, so we’re just kind of hungry for the whole area.  We went up to the Blue Mountains, had a bit of an impromptu swim up there, which was just gorgeous.  I mean, as kids growing up in England, you just see all these people leaping into mountain pools, and you’re like “yeah, I’m never ever gonna get to do that”, and then you find yourself on a baking hot day leaping into a pool in the mountains, it’s just amazing.
GQ:  Yeah, the swimming holes we have here are pretty awesome.
LC:  I don’t think I’ve ever swam in a natural pool before, it would be far too cold in England for that sort of shenanigan.  I’m so jealous that you guys get to grow up with that sort of thing.   I managed to climb a little waterfall as well, and just stand under it, pretending I was in a music video.  In my mind, I was Peter Andre’s Mysterious Girl just for a minute …
GQ:  Oh no, not Mysterious Girl … I remember when that song was released!
LC:  Hahahaha!  So do I!  Great song!  It may feature in our show, as a matter of fact …
GQ:  Have you ever had any feedback from any of the people you’ve sent up in your shows?
LC:  Only once.  We were in Edinburgh, about halfway through our run, Kate Nash came along to see it, which was kind of cool.  With her, we do a mash-up of her and Kate Bush, and she was unbelievably cool about it.  I guess she was at the festival cos she had lots of friends putting on shows, and she’s a lot more open-minded and gets a lot more of the Fringe humour, and that any sort of parody and reference is an enormous compliment.  When we’re putting together our show, we abandon a lot of stuff because they’re not popular enough, people wouldn’t know it well enough, so if you make it into the show, already it’s an indication of the ladder of success that makes you worth doing.  So yeah, she was really cool about it, she was really chuffed about being compared to Kate Bush.  So, so far, the one that’s seen it loved it, so let’s hope we continue that 100% success rate.  I’m hoping no one else sees it, haha!
GQ:  So how would you describe your show to those who haven’t heard about it?
LC:  I’d put it under the bracket of a name we came up with, which is Twisted Pop Cabaret.  It’s cabaret in the sense that it’s music, and kind of looks fabulous and sounds fabulous hopefully, as well as being funny and entertaining, so I get the whole experience in there, and it’s a fast-moving show, the songs kind of come at you at 90 miles an hour, and every single song in it is a famous pop song, and we kind of contextualise them, so we’ll either put it in a different time period, or a different genre, get somebody else to sing it, or just make a big medley of all the songs, and what we try to do is show what is going on with the lyrics, cos we don’t change the lyrics that often, so we kind of imply, perhaps, a meaning you might have missed, within those songs.
GQ:  there’s so many songs out there that people don’t even realise what they’re about …
LC:  Totally, totally.  I love, as well, hearing what people think a song is about, or get the lyrics wrong, and they’re happily singing along and you’re like “well, that’s not quite the right words …” but anyway.  One of our favourite ones is, we do what we call the Horror Medley, where we do a bunch of songs, and show just how weird they are, and how they could be something straight out of a B-Grade horror movie.
GQ:  Such as?
LC:  Well, we start off with … without wanting to give too much away … we start with Total Eclipse Of The Heart.  You know how you have those little “Turn Around” things happening by the backing vocalist, so we have someone on stage sort of singing it and constantly turning around to see who’s behind them, and there’s no one there, but they keep telling her to turn around, until she works herself into being a little bit terrified.
GQ:  That reminds me of a Candi Stratton performance … she did that song, and it started as a normal performance, not really funny, but then she started getting paranoid from the “turn around” voices, and, by the end, she’s cringing in the corner pulling all her hair out.
LC:  Haha, awesome!   Well, we only touch upon it briefly before moving on to I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight, which is obviously a bit weird … I mean, pop music is just rich ground for absurd humour, there’s so much about pop music that’s just ridiculous.
GQ:  But then again, some of the weirdest song lyrics are the best though, cos they MAKE you think …
LC:  Totally.  I mean, the ones that are more abstract are sometimes a lot harder to parody, and they’re the ones that are quite thought-provoking and engaging, and it’s really fun to have ones that are really literal.  That’s sort of what characterises Kate Nash and Lily Allen, they’re so prosaic and so banal, that in itself is just brilliant playwork, and, I mean, there’s a Kate Nash song that starts with “this is my face”, and it’s like “ … good …  “ and then it goes on to describe her face, how it’s got freckles, a few spots, and how her eyebrows are brown, and you just go “what?  You’re beating me around the head here with your banality …”
GQ:  Is anyone safe from your parodies?
LC:  Anyone obscure, that’s about it, haha!
GQ:  Have you ever tackled Mariah Carey?
LC:  Mariah Carey is coming … she’s not in this show, she’s in the one we’re writing.  We do a big enormous “lecture”, if you like, on the art of the duet, and, of course, Mariah is just a fearsome duetter.  In our version, she’s the one that contractually has the money notes.  I don’t know if you remember, she did a duet with Westlife, the Phil Collins song (Against All Odds), and Westlife were essentially her back-up singers, which is so ludicrous.  It’s like Westlife went “We’ll be your backing vocalists, Mariah”, and then they billed it as a duet.  I was like “Are you mental?  This woman is basically wailing all over your vocals … “
GQ:  You haven’t touched “our Kylie” have you?
LC:  You know what?  In all honesty, we haven’t, because there are a few artists, Spice Girls included, who are just too perfect a pop creation.  They’re just so self-aware and so shamelessly kitsch and wonderful that, if we were to do a Kylie or Spice Girls song, we’d basically just be singing their songs and dancing around pretending to be them, because secretly inside, we want to be them.  That’s the problem, particularly with Kylie.  You know, she did the whole Stock, Aitken and Waterman period, then totally bounced back from it, so you can’t even take the piss out of her for I Should Be So Lucky, cos she’s already worked it herself!  The woman’s done a duet with Nick Cave, you just can’t argue!  She might feature in the next show, we’re thinking about doing a section on “Good Girls Gone Bad”, so she might come under scrutiny then, but she’s safe so far.
GQ:  So tell me about the current show …
LC:  Well, it’s done in a school format.  It’s all pop parody, and it’s based on all the most famous, wonderful pop that we know, but it’s a very strict, school timetable, and we’re absolutely and totally serious, and 100% committed to the education of our audience, which is very important to us.
GQ:  Sounds … interesting, haha!  Now, one thing that I wondered, and some of our readers might want to know … is Matt gay?
LC:  Hahaha, yes, haha!  Oh, and FYI, it’s always Matthew, not Matt.  He hates being called Matt.  But yeah, we both love the gay community, love to have “the gays” in, sort of part of our humour.
GQ:  Talking about “loving the gays”, I’m guessing Lady GaGa is a part of your show?
LC:  Of course Lady GaGa features in our show, haha!  She gets her own dedicated little section.  We love GaGa.  I love GaGa so much.
GQ:  I hated GaGa so much, but Bad Romance got to me …
LC:  Bad Romance is the turning point for everyone, I think.  A lot of people hear it and go “actually, it’s a bit good …”  The thing is, I have a total obsession with her, and it’s not based on whether I approve of everything she does, it’s just an obsession, it’s like I need to know, I need to hear and see constantly.  She’s one of my favourite people to Youtube.  I spend hours on Youtube watching GaGa performances, oh my god, she’s a mentalist, I love it.
GQ:  What did you think about the video of her Bad Romance performance in New Zealand, when she lay down during the performance?
LC:  I have not seen that!  Oh my god, I’m going to go and Youtube that right now!  I think, with her, it’s such a great skill and persona to have adopted, is that anything could happen.  You never know on stage whether it’s meant to happen or not.  There was a performance on, I think it was the MTV Awards or something, and she was gauging out her insides and covered in blood, and when she was finished, she was kind of just hanging from the ceiling all doused in blood, so you just have no idea whether it was intended to shock or cause talk or whatever.  I love how she shows that fragility and everything.
GQ:  what do you think of the Telephone video?
LC:  Mental.  Absolutely crackers.  I loved that song when I heard it.  I had The Fame, then I was listening to The Fame Monster tracks, and that was the only one I heard where I was like “Yep!  I’m having that one straight away!”  I listened to it on repeat, cos we had a really annoying journey from a gig once, cos it’s just the two of us and a piano.  That’s all we work with, and we have a sort of big keyboard piano that we use in the UK, and we had to get it on a train, and you can imagine trying to get a piano on and off a train, it was just horrible, so that song just got me through, and I was bouncing around from it, and I love how it’s kind of about nothing, and the video’s got nothing to do with the song, and sometimes that annoys me a little bit, but it’s just such a brilliant video, I just love the image and the aesthetic and everything they’ve done with it, and good old Beyonce gamely trying to do a bit of GaGa moves.  She’s a game ol’ bird, is Beyonce.  Do you know what it is with GaGa though?  I can imagine it’s a bit like what seeing Glam Rock for the first time must have been like.  Can you imagine, coming out of the late 60’s and there’s all these grimey rock bands like The Rolling Stones who look like they just need a wash, they’re all on smack, and then suddenly you get like Marc Bolan and David Bowie in full make-up and astonishing costumes, and giving these characters this entire show, and it must have been like something from another planet landing, and cos we’ve all grown up in the wake of that, we kind of take that as read a little bit, but GaGa seems to capture the spirit of that.  It’s like, no one else is doing it.  No one else is taking live performance, the fashion, the image and everything that far, pushing the boundaries, and everyone’s having to push the boundaries as a result of it, and no one’s getting away with it.  You can see she’s inspired by Bowie, and she’s kind of upped it a bit too, she’s moving it forward a bit, it’s a beautiful thing.  It’s exciting, it’s reinvigorating pop a little bit.  Gotta love her.
GQ:  Haha, true.  Well, to finish, is there any messages you have for our readers?
LC:  God bless you, and see you all at the show!

Chris and Marissa’s Intimate Off-the-Grid California Wedding
Marissa and Chris’ wedding could not have been any more gorgeous. From the awe-inspiring desert landscape, to the bride’s fabulous Rue De Seine gown, the wedding was the perfect mixture of desert authenticity and rustic glamor!
Marissa and Chris chose the talented Sam Arroyo to capture their Cali wedding. For them, great photography was essential!
“Spending a good portion of the budget on the photographer that would capture the happiest day of our lives was a no-brainer. I had asked one of my dearest friends to tell me the one thing she would have changed about her wedding if she could and she said without hesitation, the photographer. She said it was her biggest regret and there was no way we were going to make the same mistake. Friends of mine had gotten married earlier that year and I was obsessed with their wedding photos and video, so I knew exactly who I was going to call for a recommendation. They gave me Sam Arroyo’s name and the rest is history!”
Marissa, 30 & Chris, 33
Location:  Pioneertown, California
Wedding Date: November 12, 2016
Number of Guests: 28
Wedding Cost:  $16,000-18,000. We spent the majority of the budget on location, my dress of course, and our photographer. I had originally imagined spending somewhere closer to $10,000 but we fell in love with  The Ruin Venue that was quite a bit more expensive than I had originally planned and it was worth every penny. The owners of the property, Paul and Tony, were AMAZING. I can’t say enough good things about working with them to create our dream wedding. They went above and beyond what we ever expected. As for the dress, I had also planned on spending far less but that all went out the window and when I put on the Rue De Seine dress I had been coveting for over a year. It was just too perfect, and I couldn’t imagine getting married in anything else. Spending a good portion of the budget on the photographer that would capture the happiest day of our lives was a no-brainer.
Wedding Ceremony Location: The ceremony took place in front of this incredible rock formation on the The Ruin Venue, right at sunset. We skipped the seats and our friends and family just gathered around us as we said our vows. It was magical.
Wedding Reception Location: The reception took place mainly in the ruins themselves where the original fireplace from the home was warming up the chilly November night. There was a beautiful bar made out of old wine bottles and an ornate fire pit that has to be seen to be believed, so there were plenty of places for people to congregate and chat; it was lovely! We had dinner not long after the sun went down, under a newly constructed pavilion that was adorned with strings of carnival lights. We wanted it to feel like a family dinner we’d have at home so we opted for a family style dining table and a menu of barbeque and comfort foods.
Why did you have an intimate wedding?
We had an intimate wedding for a couple of reasons. First, a large wedding was never what I had in mind. I wasn’t sure I ever wanted to be married before meeting Chris, and he’s already had one wedding so for us it was really about the marriage more than the wedding and we just wanted to make sure we didn’t waste the night only getting to talk to each person for a couple minutes at a time. Second, this might be the only chance we get for all, or most, of our nearest and dearest to meet and spend time together. We wanted them to have the opportunity to get to know each other rather than sit at isolated tables and form familiar cliques, which you often see at larger weddings. We didn’t want it to feel like there are friends and then there is family. We wanted everyone to hang out together and that’s exactly what happened so it was perfect. Lastly, Chris is from Australia, which meant the majority of his friends and family are on the other side of the world and many of them would be unable to make the big trip. Even for those who could make the trip we rather they come when wedding coordination isn’t making life so hectic and we can really take the time to catch up and show them our city. We have plans to have a reception in Australia at the end of this year. So ultimately we chose to have a more intimate U.S. wedding supplemented with a party or two in Australia.
What are some the challenges that you faced planning an intimate wedding?
Guest list! We knew we wanted something intimate but that doesn’t make creating the guest list any less painful. I have a really large family on my dad’s side and I would have loved to have each and every aunt, uncle, cousin, second cousin, kids etc. at the wedding but it just wasn’t possible. We basically had to take on an all or nothing policy and that was really hard. I lost sleep over the guest list. Also we ran into some challenges with rentals in that many of the vendors were not used to catering to such a small event. Sometimes the only option was to rent 500 wine glasses and we just didn’t need that many. Even the venue owners said they had never done a wedding as small as ours, so it was a learning curve for everyone. Also we didn’t exactly set ourselves up for the easiest time when it came to venue choice. The locations itself was pretty off the grid so trying to get even 30 guests to the location, and to find them accommodations proved to be quite the challenge. Not to mention we had no cell service out there so coordination was difficult! However having only 30 guests worked out to our advantage because I can’t imagine how hard coordination would have been with 50 or 100 guests. Also I have to say that being off the grid a bit was one of the best parts of this night. Nobody was on his or her cell phone, scrolling through social media, or uploading pictures; it was just us and the desert sky, great wine, and even better conversation.
Was it difficult to pare down the guest list?
As I said above it was incredibly difficult and it was the only thing I cried about through the entire process. I didn’t want to offend anyone, and I knew deep down that was probably unavoidable. Of course some people understood completely, particularly those who have had to deal with wedding guest lists themselves, but of course there are always a few that take it personally and I can’t explain how difficult that was for us. There are so many people we love and cherish deeply that we could not invite and that bothered me up until the day of the event, and even for some time after.
Did you have any ‘issues’ with the small guest list from friends and family? If so, how did you address them?
No one came right out and said that they were bothered by not receiving an invitation but of course we heard through other people that some had been offended. Honestly, I didn’t address it at all. I’ve heard horror stories about this kind of thing but I was really lucky in that I think at the end of the day the people in my life know that an invitation or lack of one is not a direct reflection of how much I care for them. I feel very secure and confident about the relationships I have in life and I hope they would feel the same.
What were the highlights of the ceremony?
Hands down it was walking down the aisle arm in arm with my dad to marry my best friend for the second time. Chris and I didn’t have our parents at the first little chapel wedding so having them all there to see us exchange vows was incredibly special and definitely the highlight of the day for me. Having my grandmas there was also really important and brings tears to my eyes now just thinking about it. The only thing that would have made it better would have been to have Chris’ grandparents there as well.
What were the highlights of the reception?
Such a hard question! Family style dinner under the stars, dancing with my dad in the courtyard of the ruin, taking tequila shots with my mom, smoking celebratory cigars in front of the fireplace with my husband and father in law, or reminiscing around the fire pit with my best friends…all of these moments were highlights that I’ll never forget. However I think if I had to choose one defining moment it would be dancing with my husband to Kenny Loggins, “Danny’s Song” with a glass of red in my hand and tears in my eyes. That’s the moment when it all kind of sunk in and the emotion was pretty overwhelming.
What was the best thing about having an intimate wedding?
Hands down it was having our friends and family get the chance to get to know one another. We had a pizza night rehearsal dinner at a house my family had rented in Pioneertown and I knew after that the following night was going to be a blast. Everyone just clicked so well and it was so wonderful to see my best friend talking to my grandma, and my husband getting to know my sister’s fiancé, and my in-laws getting to know my aunts and uncles. Honestly it was surreal. There’s just so few times in life where you get to have all these people that you love so deeply in one room together laughing and talking, and acting like they’ve known each other forever. It was magic. I truly believe that if we had decided to have a wedding of 100 or 200 people these connections might not have happened.
What advice do you have for couples who are considering an intimate wedding?
My only advice would be that once you’ve decided to go intimate you have to really commit. As the months of planning go buy you are going to think about this person or that person or someone’s spouse or boyfriend or girlfriend, or that friend from work, or that second cousin twice removed that you should invite but you have to just come up with your guest list early on and stick with it. You have to accept that not everyone is going to be happy about it but this day is about you and your significant other. Nobody else. So do what’s going to make you happy and just trust that it’s going to work out. Don’t have a big wedding to please other people. If you plan this wedding based on what other people want you’ll find yourself broke, disappointed, or both.

Remodelaholic in Review: June 2017
We are officially halfway through 2017! Time seems to always pass by too quickly. Last night I was putting my daughter to bed and she started crying because she didn't want to grow older and lose a tooth like her cousin recently did. In between tears she said, “Can I not grow bigger and stay just the way I am right now mom?” I hugged her and said, “I wish you could stay exactly like this a little bit longer too!” Lucky for us, there are always things to look forward to! The end of June means July is upon us and we get o celebrate America's birthday! Freedom, family, food, fireworks and fun! We hope you enjoy this upcoming month just as much as we do! And to make sure you don't miss any of our fun projects from last month, here is our June month in review!
Last month Cassity got to reveal her big April adventure. Guys, you need to check out her post and read about The Design Dash. It sounds absolutely amazing. Cassity was on of 8 bloggers to travel to North Carolina and work with La-Z-Boy to design a room. Without knowing exactly what her room would look like, she had to walk around the La-Z-Boy showroom, trying to find pieces for a hypothetical space, and was limited on the items she could select. Her room turned out gorgeous and our fingers are crossed to see if she won overall for favorite look!
Justin was also able to go on a learning adventure recently in Charlotte, NC. Him and a few others partnered up with National Gypsum to learn all about their product called PURPLE XP. He basically learned more than he ever thought possible about Dry Wall and is sharing that new knowledge with us! I found it completely fascinating, check out Learning About Drywall, PURPLE XP | Blogger Event before your next project and see what new knowledge you can apply to your home!
Despite the travels, they have been keeping busy around their home too and, as always, have put together some incredible tutorials for us! They shared with us their beautiful Dining Room Hutch Makeover: Painting Furniture with No Sanding, No Priming, No Sealer. This project has been in the planning stages for years! Cassity knew what she wanted it to look like and says this hutch sealed the deal on them getting this particular home! It didn't work out perfect, in that they had to knock the wall out, but they were able to keep it in one piece and the finished product was worth the wait!
Now is the best time to do your outdoor projects, so that you can enjoy them too! Justin recently completed a DIY Modern Deck Pergola with Plans. A great way to update your outdoor space and make it a dedicated outdoor room with purpose! Relaxing, dining, hosting, the possibilities are endless! What would you do with your outdoor room?
They also would like to introduce you to the newest member of their family! Check out all their tips and tricks and fabulous DIY projects that make everything more simple at home:  It's a Jungle in Here…
I am kind of obsessed with planning so their latest free printable: Get Planning! Free Family Vacation Printable Pack + Shirt Designs has me all sorts of excited. So simple to print and use! It even has a countdown and eleven t-shirt designs! There are 17 pages total, check them out and plan ahead so that you can stress less and enjoy your family time more!

The Aidan Gray #AGwithanedge Winners!!
The big day is here!!!
Today, I am going to announce the winners of the Aidan Gray contest #AGwithanedge.
But first a word about the contest.
Awww, come on!!!
You didn’t think I was just going to say who the winners were – right at first?!?!?
I know it’s NOT fair!!
But, Patience Please!
And NO peeking!!!!!
Ok.  Back to the story.
A few months ago I heard from Randal Weeks, the head honcho at Aidan Gray.
He had just finished completely restoring a 1920s house in High Point and he wanted to somehow incorporate the renovation into a contest.  After a rash of emails, Randal and his extremely talented group of co-workers came up with the contest that became known as #AGwithanedge.
Randal wanted the contest to merge artistry and design and he came up with this idea:
Contestants would photograph a room of theirs that would look better with an Aidan Gray light fixture.  On that photo, they would merge the actual picture with the fixture of their choice using a photoshop app.
Then, they would load the merged photo on Instagram using the hashtag #AGwithanedge.
Simple enough, right?!?!?
In the beginning, the award prizes were going to be all the Aidan Gray fixtures used in Randal’s renovated High Point house.  The contestants would chose a fixture used in that house and then they would pick a room or a space in their own house that the fixture would look good in.
That’s what the contest was supposed to be.
But somewhere along the way, that became too complicated and in my heart, I knew that many of you were fans of the more classic Aidan Gray, as opposed to AGwithanedge – the more updated Aidan Gray fixtures.   Not everyone is contemporary today, even though it sometimes seems that way.
And I’m glad we didn’t adhere to the rule “only chose a fixture in the renovated house” because I think it freed everyone up to dream about that one Aidan Gray fixture THEY have always wanted to own!
But still, the actual rules of the contest were complicated.
I was a little - well more than a little – I was very concerned that the contest would be problematic.  Not everyone is on Instagram and not everyone knows how to navigate Instagram.  Then there was the issue of the merged photo – using a photoshop type app to create the entry photograph.
I was also convinced that no one would know how to “merge” photos except for a small handful of computer literate readers.
In the end…all my fears were for naught.
We had almost 100 entrants in the contest, which is fabulous.
I offered to create entries for those who weren’t on Instagram or who couldn’t do the picture stitching – so hopefully, no one was left out of entering.
Basically, #AGwithanedge began with a house, a 1929 Tudor house in High Point:
Randal had seen this fabulous Tudor for sale and he thought it would be perfect to stay in while he was at market and it would also make a perfect vacation house for his three teenaged sons.   The Emerywood house is located at 210 Hillcrest near the High Point Country Club.  It had been custom built for W.C. Idol and his wife, who entertained in the house, hosting parties and garden club meetings.
The Idols sold the house to John and Mary Diffendal who lived in the Tudor, with their many children, during their 60 years of marriage.  After John passed away, Mary continued to live in the house alone, visited by her doctor who made house calls and the hairdresser and manicurist who both came weekly.  Later, when Mary could not walk upstairs, she moved into the dining room, making it her bedroom.
When Randal bought the house, he took it down to the studs, completely renovating every inch of the house.   He painted the exterior a soft gray and white which immediately updated the house.  This detail was much debated in the Cote de Texas comment section with some of you preferring the dark red brick over the gray paint.  My vote is for the painted version!
In the end, the dream of a Weeks vacation house was not to be.  Perhaps this house was just too close to work to make it relaxing for the Weeks.  Randal sold the house before it was even completely finished:  the winter weather did not allow the landscaping to be installed and the garage apartment was left to be renovated by the new owners.
The Weeks ending up buying another property they are currently renovating that is far, far away from the pressures of work and it will be a vacation home for the Weeks.
Despite quickly selling the house, Randal was still able to furnish it with all the latest contemporary light fixtures, furniture and accessories from Aidan Gray.  The photos will live on for a long time – and are a wonderful way to show off many of Randal’s newest designs.
Before:  Randal took the house down to the studs.  It was this beautiful, iconic banister that sold Randal on the house.
After:  The wood floors that were once mostly covered by carpet are now stained very dark brown/black.
The view from the entry to the living room on the left and the family room/kitchen past the staircase.
Before:  The library was carpeted and had some wood paneling on the walls, along with faux PAPER paneling!!!!!!   I asked Randal why he had removed some of the paneling and he said, “Joni, it wasn’t wood.   It was brown PAPER glued to the walls!!!”
After:  The library is now very dark gray/black and is a mix of old and new.
The dining room was once where the former owner lived out her twilight years.  Now, it is a contemporary space, with the custom light fixture that Randal created out of an antique altar that once held holy water.  Other pieces of the altar were used in the living room.
Before:  The family room.  Randal kept the charming corner cabinets, but he removed the wall on the right side, between the kitchen/breakfast room, to create a large open space.
After:  The large family room and kitchen, with the wall now removed.
Randall made this window, between the two corner cabinets, a focal point of the family room.
Before:  The kitchen.  Randal extended the galley kitchen into the breakfast room, making one extra large space.
AFTER:  The galley kitchen is now one large space with a table at the end.  Several different pendants from AG were used in this space.
The kitchen has an amazing mirrored hood, while the entire back wall is covered in white subway tile.  I think the kitchen is my favorite space in the house.
Upstairs.  The new stairs to the attic are contemporary to juxtapose them against the original stairs with the banister that first attracted Randal to the house.
The room that was once the “sewing room” is now a cute guest room with light pink walls.
We didn’t see this in the original story – the master bathroom with marble tile walls.  Love!
Another view of the  master bathroom.
This bathroom is particularly beautiful with the marble walls.
My favorite bedroom is this attic room.   Be sure to look  at the original story to see all the photos HERE.
