tw domestic abuse

13 year old Jamie flinching when his dad puts his hand on his shoulder because the force of it makes him bend.

17 year old Jamie having a black eye for two weeks after his dads been around again and insisting he got it during a match and the ref just didn’t see.

19 year old Jamie in a serious relationship for the first time and she drags her nails down his arm hard enough to break skin in a small argument. She smacks his face three days later.

20 year old Jamie who’s just had a wine glass tossed at his head from a girl who thought he was cheating, he wasn’t but that doesn’t seem to matter.

21 year old Jamie who had a secret boyfriend for three months until he gets shoved into a wall for not wanting to be the first out player because ‘Jamie think of both our careers, we would be icons’.

23 year old Jamie who’s had maybe the healthiest relationship of his life with Keeley being at a bar for the first time after they break up, he gets his face slapped by a girl who thinks he was flirting with her boyfriend.

27 year old Jamie in a relationship with Roy and the first time they really argue he throws his hands in front of himself and closes his eyes when Roy gestures.

Roy fully freezes and steps four feet back and asks Jamie to open his eyes. Jamie who honestly didn’t realize his eyes were closed looks shocked. He asks Roy why he’s so far away now.

Roy looks like he’s about to cry, Jamie lunges to him holding his face asking what happened. Roy has to stutter out a ‘you flinched’ and now it’s Jamie’s turn to freeze. No one has ever brought up the flinching before, taken advantage of it? Yeah. Ignored it? Definitely. Asked in a voice that’s about to cry? No, no that’s new.

He insists he’s fine, he knows Roy would never hit him. Roy looks at him like he’s lost his mind and refuses to brush this off. They talk for hours, Jamie tells Roy everything. All the ex’s, everything his father has ever done, ex teammates who slapped backs too hard to be friendly.

Everything.

By the end they are both crying and Jamie has agreed to talk to a therapist. When they go to bed that night Roy is terrified to grab onto Jamie and pull him on top like he normally does. Jamie has no such issues and rolls right on top of Roy, head tucked into Roy’s neck like every night.

for dtamhd im imagining something a la tends bar where dennis has this explosive yet emotional confession once he reaches his breaking point, and as he's hurling insults at each member of the gang, he finally reaches mac and says "and you, this is all your goddamn fault, you son of a bitch!!" and mac, with all the pity and longing of a kicked puppy asks, "what? how is this my fault?" and dennis, of course, refuses to elaborate, maybe he takes a swing at mac and they're wrestling like dennis just found out mac banged his mom, but in the middle, dennis breaks down into tears, giving us a reveal of what's been going on with him, and then, mac, sitting beside him, asks: "do you want a tissue?" and dennis pauses, staring at him, the rest of the gang looking on in confusion, except for dee, cause she knows what it means, she has all along, and then, in the words of frank, "they plow"

Guys...the comparison between Bryan & Aaron's relationship with Mac & Dennis' relationship just fed my fucking soul tonight.

When Mac says he's not allowed to talk and Bryan says 'Me, either' and nods his head in Aaron's direction, you instantly see the comparison in the dynamic.

Also, I think the point is to read Bryan's speech to be his true feelings. I did an immediate re-watch, and in the cold open I noticed how when the reporter asks them specifically about their alcohol, Bryan puts all intellectual credit/responsibility on Aaron, but in a playfully light self-teasing kind of way. Still, he does take removed credit.

But, as we see with the way Bryan acknowledges Mac, he's aware of how Aaron treats him. He's keeping everything low stakes for himself on purpose.

Macdennis brainrot and all that, but their relationship seems to be a main focus this season. If they aren't working as a duo, like in FSEMOTG & TGGC, then we are getting nods to Dennis letting go of secrets from his past and trauma dumps of Mac’s heroes failing him, (Charlie too, but focusing on Macdennis for this post) - Though, speaking of Charlie, his character is intentionally split off from them this episode, despite it being their collective pitch. He's absolutely hilarious, but even though they all were in sync about the original idea, the trio doesn't work in the narrative parallel with our celebrity business partners.

This is the episode after Dennis dropped the Johnny Betrayal Bomb. We see Mac and Dennis side-by-side throughout the entire bar scene, standing together as a unit, even in the damn bathroom.

The audience is forced to examine the dynamic of their relationship. The constant tension between them and their bitching is used for comedy, but it's also used as foreshadowing for the belittling that occurs from Aaron towards Bryan.

But the difference is that's Mac’s being shitty back; he's not letting Dennis tell him how he feels about his clothes. He flat-out accuses Dennis, 'the smartest guy he's ever met', of choking. He smirks when Dennis stalks off in frustration. He also recognizes and points out the 'abusive relationship'. He even goes all high-neck, absolutely entranced when Bryan gets in Aaron's face.

When Bryan sits down and finishes his speech, 'Who's really in control here?' Dennis looks at Mac and then down for a moment before Bryan has his and scene moment.

Sunny loves her metaphors and parallels, okay?!

Maybe I'm unhinged, maybe I'm feral. But...

This is everything I've ever wanted to see in a dynamic shift.

I literally kept popping back into my Macden memo note when I rewatched FVR, before watching CB:TUCG, I finally started to feel a bit of structure to my fic. There was some growth I needed for Mac's character, so I tried to explain his behavior and overall denial towards Dennis' revelation in FVR. I really went in on his character's history. And I came to a theory about him.

And, honestly, S16E5 did wonders for cat-in-the-wall-ing some serious relationship acknowledgments and comparisons.

Honestly, I'm feeling so vindicated with how well this season is blending comedy with acknowledgments to the trauma of these characters and the picking apart of their dynamics.

I may be wrong, but I feel like there are less jokes per episode this season, and honestly, I mean this as a compliment. This is the longest running sitcom and these characters have been to hell and back. Hell, they've all stabbed each other in the back. But at some point, it has to affect things. We can't wear blinders to what their realities are. The relationships have to be examined, but more importantly, they have to change, even if only a little; otherwise, there's no point in the longest-standing journey.

The other fics were getting too intense so I wanted to write some fluff so I went back to the wayf fic, it's a season 4 au, running on 2 timelines the present and the weekend, Buck and Eddie sleep together while on vacation while Chris is at camp, Eddie panics and says he doesn't want more, Buck proceeds to slowly spiral into madness because his parents suck and he can't sleep without Eddie anymore. Buck had never seen Eddie laugh like that. They were still just on the right side of buzzed, just enough for everything to feel lighter, and it probably wasn't even that funny, but he loved the sight anyway. He thought it would take more convincing. He didn't want to sleep yet, for the day to end, so he threw one of his pillow on Eddie's bed, making him grumble something about being midnight, that Buck had retorted with some nonsense about how Eddie had only brought him to know what kind of stuff he could get into if he just let go for a few days, but that actually had Eddie rolling off the bed and Buck grinning so hard his cheeks hurt as he walked them out of the hotel and to the beach. The place was beautiful at night. Breathtaking really. There weren't enough lights around so they could actually see some stars for a change, the moon, not quite full but almost there, was reflecting on the waves that looked black and lighting up the night just enough. And Eddie looked beautiful under it. He was quite a vision with flushed cheeks, tousled hair that was just getting long enough to look messy, and that smile. At that moment it felt like Buck would do anything to keep him laughing like that. Not that it was taking much, he was just pointing at the sky and making up constellations with the stars they were seeing. It started serious enough. With Eddie propped up on his elbows, legs stretched in front of them in the sand, pointing out the ones he knew. Buck had learned them too, at some point during lonely nights when he was a teenager, but he didn't want to try to remember once Eddie started getting unsure after naming a few. So he started making up names. And maybe they were tired enough to be bordering on delusional if that was all it took for them to start laughing like that.
