ok so we got the gangs kids...but who are the kids fave 'relatives' other than their parents?
Cam:
As mentioned in the baby posts, her Aunt Miranda is like her childhood hero! She's the one that inspired her to become an online influencer/entertainer (which as of today is a totally canon thing people do in the Post-Merge world, thanks to that short). Mira also spoils this kid rotten anyway (which can't be helped when Mira winds up the one babysitting her the most)
She also has a very big soft spot for Lloyd, as she loves hearing his thoughts on life (being the big important Sensei, Master of Life, and Conduit of Energy now) as it helps her maintain reassurance of her own humanity (and Lloyd never lets her ever doubt). This is actually her POV in this snippet
Blaire:
When they're not arguing or fighting, their favorite 'relative' is actually Wyldfyre, as Wyldfyre has the chance to pass on some of things Kai taunt her unto Blaire—or at least provide the proof that he actually does know what he's talking about. They also like to play games like Capture the Flag with them on opposing teams (and dragging the rest of the alliance into the fray and it gets so intense so quick. Poor Finn thought he was gonna die to friendly fire.)
Cole is also their favorite sparring partner/mento, but Zane is the one they face the most.
Also is a bad influence on Lloyd and can drag him into his old pranking ways from time to time. Just for old time's sake.
Blythe:
Doesn't have a favorite so much as one he goes to when he desperately needs a quiet break from the general chaos—which, he usually finds with Zane! The two hit it off due to shared interests and perspectives (books, cooking, philosophy in geometry), but even Zane has his silly moments that make Blythe question his own whole 'no-nonsense' thing going on
He also has a soft spot for his Uncle Jay, who is just as zany as everyone else, but is very intelligent when provoked on the right subject–and can also actually make Blythe laugh against his will. Jay brags about it to Kai for days afterwards every time it happens.
Briar:
Follows Pixal around a LOT, as she's kind of the other only non-elemental around, and through her gets inspired to be a Samurai (like her Aunt Nya used to be), but doesn't want to butt in on Seven's whole stick (but Seven actually wouldn't mind a sidekick). Pixal is also the one that shows her how to make weapons outside of blacksmithing (like laser cannons–PIXAL NO)
And speaking of Aunt Nya, Briar spends a lot of time with her as well! Nya makes sure she's included in on all the training that goes on, avoiding what went down in her own youth, and making sure she's not always left behind either (which can be admittedly difficult give than Briar is significantly younger than the others). And when they're not fighting or working, Nya knows a great place that sells the smoothies Briar really really likes :')
Lloyd also trains her personally in a variety of weapons (...and Briar may or may not "inherit" Kid!Lloyd's weapon mania, ahahahahaaaa)
Lucina:
It's awkward for Lucina to bond with some of the others, as they turned out very differently from the ninja she's known in her timeline (and heck, she never even got to meet Alter!Nya) and thus she never knows how to act, but Jesse is one of the few people who is basically the same in this timeline, so she tends to go to him just for a sense of familiarity beyond Lloyd himself. Jesse also likes having her around–she reminds him very much of a certain old friend from his youth ;w;)/
Otherwise, she really does like everyone equally, but does feel a little sad with how readily familiar everyone else tends to be with Lloyd (as it constantly reminds herself that she isn't technically Lloyd's kid either)
Finn:
Finn adores his Aunt Skylor, and thinks she's the coolest person ever (because she is). Skylor, however, always puts in extra effort to keep up this image he has of her, even though it's entirely unnecessary. She can do something super embarrassing like dropping and breaking a full stack of plates, and Finn will wind the narrative to be that it was somehow for the good of all people. Beyond that, she is also his sounding board for whenever he tries his hand at poetry (for he may not be as smart as his parents, but Finn is unmatched when it comes to the written word). Skylor also can be convinced to take him swimming when no one else will by giving her baby doll eyes snksnk
He also really looks up to Cole, who can be super strong and responsible when the time calls for it but also knows how (even if it took a few years for him to get there). Cole complements some of Finn's poetry with his own art, and even gets Finn into the music scene. Cole also has a tendency to give him pep talks whenever Finn's feeling low about himself ;w;
Quinn:
Spends a lot of time with Sora, always convincing Sora to take breaks and shows her the wonderful world of video gaming. Quinn is also trying to better her familiarity with technology to at least be able to fix a mech or machine should it ever break down (since she also did not inherit her parents' smarts), but while Sora helps, she also tries to encourage Quinn to seek out her own passions and discover what she's good at. Which, Quinn struggles with a lot.
...which is something her Uncle Kai is familiar with in spades, and will often join her on mini-quests to find things she likes or is good at. Together they learn she really likes sports and racing, but also has a knack for understanding fashion and make-up (which Nya is bewildered that this is coming from her offspring but she does her best to be supportive), and Kai and a not-jealous Jay are more than happy to be a practice model for her.
Seven:
Seven tends to hang out with Arin—or, Arin tends to track them down, as they have a vast amount of archives of all the Ninja's adventures in their database, and they wind up recalling a lot of stories to confirm or deny Arin's ninja-theories (or simply embarrass the classic ninja with things Arin would have never known otherwise...such as the Duck Chowder incident, which Zane SPECIFICALLY told them not to spread around—!) Seven is also, lamentably, not a good cook, so Arin at least shows them how to make a decent pie once to surprise their parents with.
Seven also makes surprise upgrades to Arin's grappling hook which leaves everyone else screaming in terror while Arin's just like "This is the best gift ever :') )

Do you think the SW Sequels Era did anything right? I've seen a lot of backlash in regards to what they did wrong, but I'm genuinely curious to see what some people think were positives ideas to come out of the whole ordeal. (Luke's characterization, Reylo canonicity completely sidelining Finn and Poe, and Disney/Execs overall throwing their POC cast to the wolves when they weren't happy with conditions were decisions that should have never been made in my own opinion btw)
This is one of those topics that might stir up a wasp's nest depending on who you ask, but honestly the Sequels Era as a whole wouldn't be so bad if the executive decisions behind them weren't such a disrespectful trash fire.
But yeah Anon, I getcha. We've all seen people's (rightfully) negative opinions of the Sequels Era and how much squandered potential the trilogy turned out to be. That said I do think there are some positives. Mostly in the form of ideas that DO still have potential so long as they're approached with care and consideration.
With that said, what I think they did right:
The Force Awakens - It's just a straight up good movie that opened the door to a lot of possibilities. Good OST, good cast, interesting alien and creature designs, combined some pretty dark elements that could very easily be explored more deeply by anyone who's interested in sparking a debate about willing conscription vs forced indoctrination and how to tell the two apart, etc. I still consider it a part of mine and @lost-on-kamino 's Forceful Intervention AU Verse because honestly it's a movie that paid excellent homage to both the original and prequels trilogies.
Star Wars Resistance - A lot of people consider it a subpar show, which honestly I don't see. It has so many interesting themes, from privileged kids that want to actually do good instead of sitting pretty while the world burns around them, the dangers of targeted propaganda and how it's specifically used on youths that are dealing with trauma left behind by war, trying to make your way in a galaxy that isn't always friendly but that can offer you community if you know where to look, and more. The cast is fun, the style isn't the worst I've seen in terms of animation, and overall I feel like it's a breath of fresh air to focus on characters that aren't inherently connected to the Force.
Kix Lives - There is absolutely so much potential behind the reveal that Kix was not only frozen in stasis by Dooku, but also found 50 years in the future after everyone he knew and held dear to his heart have been dead and gone for a long while now. The amount of survivor's guilt and trauma would be immeasurable, if not torturous, and I feel like the writers at least owe it to Kix to help him find some legacy his brothers might have left behind. Be it artifacts or even entire lineages they might have been able to start. If not that, then at least show us some of his adventures with the crew of the Meson Martinet.
Barghests - They added a new kind of space doggo that I absolutely love the design of, and want to see in action so badly. Just look at these absolute creatures of all time:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Delightful beasts! Friend shaped! Worthy of as much esteem as the humble Massiff, the zesty Charhound or the beefy Corellian Hound!
And that's about it on my list of things that the Sequels Era did right. If only the rest wasn't an absolute mess... We could have definitely had something really good to work with.
Ah well... Nothing like rolling up the proverbial sleeves and getting to work exploring all the wasted potential yourselves!

Hi can you do a reading on Finn wolfhard personality wise and how he would be in relationship?
finn wolfhard tarot reading
public persona vs private personality
do I have his energy permission to do and share this reading? 8 of wands
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm not a fan, so idk what you guys have already figured out about his real personality, sorry if it's too superficial ☝️
persona
death reversed, 3 of cups, the empress reversed, 2 of cups reversed
a chill guy with no limits to his talents. he is supposed to be the nerdy guy, the outcast, he's relatable. he's skinny instead of muscly, he's friendly and non threatening, he's got no luck in relationships, he's constantly friend zoned. his persona requires him to look unattractive, uncool, nerdy, a bit embarrassing. it may change completely after stranger things ends and he may get different types of roles. his persona depends much on the type of character he is playing, but this is the most consistent one since his most famous characters have this vibe.
personality
ace of swords reversed, the star, queen of swords reversed
he loves to stand out, he loves a flashy lifestyle, he may be more chill than a lot/most of hollywood stars, but he still grew up in that environment, he's not a casual outcast, obviously. he feels very connected to nature, may prefer silence and have a particular tendency towards the beach. he loves to watch things, people and the world happen. may be really into sports that require sweat but still little physical effort. no surprise that he loves photography. he may wanna try a different hairstyle. really loves traveling and getting to see the world up close, one of his dreams may be a cruise. he may be much ruder and quieter than people expect. may not have spent enough time with his parents as a kid, so feels distant from his family now. he doesn't like it when things change often or too fast, he moves slow, and needs to follow a plan that makes sense or he loses his mind. when he's with those he feels really comfortable, he may talk way less, while in public, he may talk non-stop and mindlessly. probably had to grow up too fast and is now trying to catch up with a lost sense of youth. he might wanna study psychology or direct a movie.

i feel like so much of the media i consume is dark or disturbing or gruesome and it's not good for my mental health and can sometimes be triggering for me, do you know of any feel-good, positive, funny or uplifting piece of media like podcasts, tv shows, or youtubers?:)
I've got you! I pretty much only watch positive or feel-good content lately. The world is just too dark and I don't need to seek more darkness out. Here are a few suggestions I could think of off the top of my head. Everyone feel free to suggest others!
TV
Ted Lasso- an optimistic, upbeat American football coach is hired to manage an English football team. Pretty much the most uplifting, funny, and positive show you could imagine.
Adventure Time- brothers Finn the Human and Jake the Dog battle evil in the fantasy land of Ooo. This show starts off very silly, but then becomes profound and life-affirming very quickly.
Community- a quirky sitcom about a study group at a community college. Hijinks ensue.
The Good Place- a woman wakes up in heaven only to realize she doesn't belong there. This show is hilarious but also has a really great message about what it means to live a good life.
Keep Your Hands off Eizouken- an anime in which a trio of schoolgirls start an anime production club. Even if you don't like anime, this show will convince you to love it. It's very uplifting and the girls' imagination and passion is contagious. This is one of my favorite shows ever to be made.
Schitt's Creek- a sitcom where a super rich family goes bankrupt and moves to a rural small town in Canada. Hilarious, but also very feel-good.
Derry Girls- a sitcom where the Derry Girls attempt to navigate teenage life in 1990s Derry, Northern Ireland. Given the setting it seems like this show couldn't possibly be funny or feel-good, but it's one of the few shows that consistently makes me laugh out loud. It has its tearjerker moments and it does those well. There have been episodes that have made me feel truly hopeful for the future of the world. But for the most part it's just fun.
Terrace House- a Japanese dating show where nothing happens. Three men and three women live in a house together, but then leave to go to work, hang out with their friends, and just do day to day things. It's somehow incredibly addictive and calming at the same time.
Space Dandy- an anime about the adventures of a "dandy guy in space who combs the galaxy like his pompadour on the hunt for aliens. Planet after planet he searches, discovering bizarre new creatures both friendly and not." This show is ridiculous in the best possible way.
Rilakkuma and Kaoru- a stop motion anime about Rilakkuma, a lazy stuffed bear, and Karou, an anxious human office worker. This show is very pure, sweet, and endearing.
Books
The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet- this is the book I'm reading right now. It follows a space crew of aliens on their journey across the galaxy. The vibes are very comforting and it's kind of about the meaning of family.
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy- when Arthur Dent's home is destroyed to make way for an intergalactic highway, he unwillingly gets swept up on a search for the legendary planet of Magrathea. Hitchhiker's Guide is a classic series that's very funny and sometimes absurd.
The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared- this is exactly what it sounds like it would be. Allan Karlsson is a hundred year old man who climbs out the window of his nursing home and disappears. It's a funny, passionate adventure about appreciating and enjoying life.
The House in the Cerulean Sea- Linus Baker is a depressed social worker in the Department in Charge of Magical Youth. When he is sent to evaluate the Marsyas orphanage for magical children, he discovers what's important in life. Very uplifting and life affirming.
Movies
Amelie- a quirky, socially awkward Parisian waitress secretly helps the people in her life while trying to work up the courage to talk to the man she's fallen in love with. It inspired me to want to do random acts of kindness for other people and it has great vibes.
Howl's Moving Castle- pretty much any Studio Ghibli movie has good vibes, but Howl's Moving Castle is my favorite. A woman cursed with rapid aging becomes a housekeeper to a narcissistic young magician. I would live in this movie if I could.
Night is Short, Walk on Girl- Night is Short follows Otome, a university student on a never-ending night out in Kyoto, and Senpai, the boy who is in love with her from afar. Before the night ends, they encounter criminal thugs, treacherous gods, and harebrained schemes, and drink a whole lot of alcohol. Whenever I'm feeling down, this is my go-to movie that I watch.
YouTubers
Purple Palace- Shayna is an American visual artist who lives in Paris. Her videos are inspiring and feel like hanging out with your most supportive friend.
Damon Dominique- a travel YouTuber. I don't watch him as much as I used to, but his videos often take a kind of philosophical or spiritual bend, and it's a lot of fun to see all the different places he visits.
ondo온도 - a super calming, low-key Korean lifestyle vlog channel
Mocha- a super calming, low-key Japanese lifestyle vlog channel
Goodnight Moon ASMR- if you don't like ASMR, this probably won't be for you, but this is my go-to ASMR channel for when I need a boost. Erin does an incredible job with props, costumes, sets, and storylines. I especially like her Valley Girl character, who manages to be hilarious and super calming at the same time.

DAY ONE ⇨ SNOWBALL FIGHTING
GENRE: Christmas, fluff, family friendly
PAIRING: Finn x Reader
SYNOPSIS: Finn likes chasing you in the snow, the cold itself should stop you from wanting to go out, let alone the ice lining the roads but it doesn’t and it certainly doesn’t stop a little competitive nature between the two of you. Throw around a snowball or two and it’s a normal afternoon in Small Heath now the snow is falling.
W/C: 1.2k
A/N: something soft and fluffy to start us off!!
Tumblr media
“Finn!” You squeal as you run around the corner, hoping to get away from him.
He doesn’t halt his movements, though, it only fuels him to run that much faster towards your squeals, following the lilt in your voice that gave away your positioning.
He skids on the soles of his shoes from the snow covered ground and almost loses his footing as he stumbles to continue in the way you ran. He wasn’t as quick as you had been to grab the lampost as you rounded the corner, to help you with your balance.
Small Heath had been filled from the early morning with the squeals of the younger kids barrelling through the streets and, despite the snow that was still falling and the clear lack of layered clothing, they had still been roaming when you had rammed on Polly’s door half an hour ago to call for Finn. It wasn’t like you two were almost-teenagers, you’d both just missed out on something as carefree as this for a few years and craved the youthfulness and the rush of chasing each other around.
Adrenaline coursing through your veins, you headed towards the Garrison, hoping to throw Finn off by taking a shortcut or two after whizzing around that corner.
Sprinting down the street, you headed towards the canal routes from here, knowing it was risky to be messing around near the water but praying that it had frozen over since it was more than cold enough.
“I’ll get you, you know!” Finn called from somewhere behind you, almost knocking over an older couple who had been trying to make their way down the street at a noticeably slower rate than you and Finn had been setting.
You giggled and felt the wind whipping your face and curling through your hair as it came loose from the bun it was in as you raced down the street. You could only hope that your next trick would throw him off.
Your coat fell loose around your waist, the constant movement against the wind having loosened the tie you had around it and slowing you down slightly. As you ran along the canal, you dipped between a darkened alleyway and moved along the wall, your hand feeling against the rock to make sure you were hidden well enough and stayed, hoping that Finn would run straight past, allowing you enough time to re-tie your coat and to catch your breath.
Breathing heavy, you fiddled under the darkness of the alley and paid no mind to the noises that came from outside of the alley way. When you finished, you cautiously walked towards the light where you had entered the alleyway. The snow was still falling, featherlight on your messy hair and littering your eyelashes, making your eyes stand out even more but you didn’t notice. Sticking your head around the corner, you observe to see if Finn was within your vicinity. You couldn’t see anything one way so slowly took steps out, tip-toeing your way across the canal even though footsteps were cushioned by the soft snow.
You freeze, feeling someone’s hot breath fanning across the back of your neck, making your hair stand on end, your ears heat up from the situation and you mentally scold yourself for not double-checking everything before leaving the alleyway.
“What are you hiding from?”
You squeal and take off for the bridge that goes over the canal, linking the two sides of Birmingham.
“I hope you’re not planning on going anywhere too fast...” Finn’s voice travels across the canal, making you halt and stare at him.
He was holding a snowball in his right hand, arm held above his head, ready to propel it towards you with the power you knew he had in his arm.
“Do not throw that snowball,” you warn, eyes wide.
Finn smirks, “or what?”
Your eyes narrow in his direction. “Or I won’t give you --”
You were cut off by the cold thud that hit your square in the face. It hadn't been one of his stronger throws but it had caught you off guard, not giving you enough time to react and put your hands up to prevent it from colliding with your cheek.
Finn is standing, waiting for your reaction, trying not to laugh at your shocked face.
“Finn...” You say in a warning tone, he’s doubled over laughing by this point but you do nothing other than pat your face with your fingers.
He doesn’t notice you moving towards him so by the time you pounce on his back, he can only yelp when you wrap your arms around your neck.
“Not so funny now, eh, Finn? Throw another snowball at me!” You dare him.
He’s holding onto your arms that are wrapped around his neck and trying to loosen the grip you had on him, only laughing at how you had eventually reacted.
Finally, you jump down and huff as he bursts into more laughter at the scowl resting on your face. To this, you think that he’ll really appreciate the bundle of snow you’re about to stuff down the back of his coat.
When you do, Finn screams like a little girl and cues your own laughter, howling down the streets so much that you’re surprised someone from the residential area wasn’t bothered by your loud laughter and coming to see what was happening. Luckily, you were too far out to be heard by anyone who wasn’t on the canal and since it was frozen over for the most part, it was just you two.
Finn remained jumping about, trying and failing to shake the snow out from his coat, only making him shiver when it fell down his spine, making his shirt wet as the snow melts from his body heat.
“Cheeky git, better think twice before you throw a snowball at me again,” you breathe out between gulps of air to feed your laughter.
“I just wanted to have a little fun,” he whines, “and now my back’s all wet!”
Feeling the slightest pang of guilt, you wipe away the tears from your eyes and lift the back of his coat up to help the snow drop out and brush him down afterwards.
“Not in the face, baby, you know that,” you pout and stand on your tip-toes, to meet his height and press a soft kiss against his lips, “I’ll get a cold all week otherwise.”
You sniffle for effect and Finn shakes his head, pressing another kiss to your lips before bringing his hand around the back of your neck... and stuffs some snow down your coat.
You yelp and jump around before taking your coat off completely to rid the snow; Finn just offers a broad smile and takes your coat from you and watches as you brush off the snow from your back.
“I deserved that,” you whimper and offer a pouty smile to him. He smiles back, enjoying this thoroughly.
“I’ll tell Polly exactly why my shirt and coat needs drying.”
“You wouldn’t!”
“I might.”

Definitive “Furry or Not A Furry” Ranking of Every Glee Kid
Yeah.
Rachel - used to be a furry when she was younger and was looking for a community. grew out of it, thinks it was kind of cringey of her but appreciates the online friends she made
Finn - not a furry, but not super weirded out by them. would absolutely be a Bag Bitch at a con if Kurt and Sam needed help
Kurt - became a mild furry after Sam introduced him. he's not a suiter or artist but he sews suits/parts and accessories and makes bank selling. has a fursona (it's some kind of cat) that he commissioned Sam for
Mercedes - not a furry. does not understand furries. supports Kurt and Sam anyway
Tina - 100% a furry, but on the DL. she has a lot of online friends and gets sucked into drama in communities a bunch. sparkle dogs were made for Tina
Artie - furry by proxy. he likes to say he's into monsters and creatures but that's not true
Quinn - not a furry, thinks it's weird and gross bc she's uninformed, and even after she still is kinda like "eh..."
Puck - not a furry but reads furry nsfw comics. unfortunately probably one of the most informed on everything furry, even more than the actual furries
Santana - 0% furry.
Brittany - 100% furry. she’s obsessed with suiters and has a ton of OCs
Mike - not a furry, kinda uncomfy by it but in like, a normal "i just don't get it" way
Sam - the biggest furry. didn't have a lot of friends growing up, was really into niche sci fi and fantasy things, found solace online. fell into furry community easily, met a lot of LGBT people across the world (which is why he's so comfy with it). got big into art because of it, now a pretty well known artist. has a fursuit and plans to start making and selling them as a main source of income. he and Kurt table at cons together
Lauren - not a furry. furries are gross
Blaine - another former furry, basically in the same boat as Rachel. doesn't like to talk about it but still has a few friends from the community. 100% read Warriors. when he and Rachel "dated" the secret came out and they spent 2 hours ranting about the books and never spoke of it again
Dave - not a furry initially. had 0 idea what furries were actually. still not super a furry but in his attempt to be informed during the short PFFLAG stint Kurt brought it up, he got researching into it. he follows a few artists on twitter. he also commissions a fursona from Sam and has a small folder of fursona art now bc he wants to support people. fully embraces the community and likes that it’s a positive source of LGBT content and friendships for youth
Jesse - not a furry but like Puck, knows a surprising amount. thinks Rachel's past is endearing and encourages her to get back into it
Becky - former furry, definitely self-hating furry now. I think once she graduates and is out of a toxic environment w/ always being around Sue she would casually get back into it. 100% still checks on her Neopets
Rory - not a furry but his brother is so when he and Sam become close, Rory is really into talking about it.
Sugar - Schrodinger's furry. I literally can't tell if she's fully against furries or is an obnoxious furry
Joe - not a furry but "jesus didn't say anything about furries" so he doesn't care. maybe just don't yiff
Unique - furry! Unique started as a fursona when she was 10-11 and the persona carried on after
Sebastian - makes fun of furries until he realizes he can't be a good person and also bully a bunch of 12 year olds. still kinda gives Dave shit for it, but in a friendly way
Marley - not a furry but she was in a lot of creative communities so she was furry adjacent. doesn't really care, thinks their art and suits are cute
Jake - no.
Ryder - has a fursuit from when he was 12-13 that he begged his parents for. still can't get through holidays without his entire family roasting him. he definitely knows who Sam is and has been an avid follower
Kitty - NOT a furry. she cannot stress enough how much she is not a furry. she loves HORSES.
Brody - zero knowledge about furries. Rachel begs Kurt to not tell him about her past because she doesn't want him to know. Kurt continuously drops hints that go right over his head
Adam - learns about furries from Kurt. definitely teases him, lovingly Elliott - Not a furry but knows of them. Always loved the passion people put into it, and like Dave appreciates that it was always an LGBT friendly space for others
Dani - 0% furry. Probably made fun of them, actually. Santana kinda shuts that down eventually bc she saw how happy it made Britt
Roderick - doesn't really know much about furries and is kinda of "meh" because of it. would probably feel uncomfortable around a fursuiter but is nice enough to kinda just let people live
Jane - another former furry. Warrior Cats girl. she still gets emotional thinking about feathertail's death. she never got into the "furry" community but was definitely involved in a lot of Warriors and wolf OC roleplays
Mason - furry adjacent, because:
Madison - aggressive furry. constantly getting in drama online and off. she and Tina have definitely fought before online. though she is very active in calling out scammers and abusers so people forgive her aggressiveness because she also does a lot of good. she has like 70 characters
Spencer - not a furry, but much like Roderick, lets people be. slightly more skeeved, definitely will make uncomfortable jokes about it
Alistair - doesn't know much from furries other than general memes and stuff, will kind of joke about them but thinks they don't deserve as much hate as they get
Myron - idk honestly he's just a fucking wildcard

Chandrilan Moons -3
Tumblr media
A Kylo Ren x Reader story with much angst, possessiveness and dark themes (warnings will be updated as the story progresses) –> Read also on AO3
Summary: Growing up under the loving care of your foster-mother, Leia Organa, there had been nothing for you and Rey to want for. Though not of kin, you loved Rey as your sister and spent a happy childhood with her on Chandrila. But when the boiling galactic politics demanded for Leia to take action, for the Resistance to rise and fight, the girls could no longer evade the cruelty of the world. Kylo Ren sought a map as a key to revenge, to freedom, and had no use for a force-unsensitive young girl like you. You were simply a means to an end. Until his darkness latched onto you, drawn in by your light as you were by the demon that is Kylo Ren - inevitably gravitating towards each other, bound to be one. Like the Chandrilan moons.
**** WARNING: description of violence, mentions of rape
____________________________xXx____________________________
3- A disturbance in the Force
+Takodana - neutral territory+
Flying through space was amazing and although two experienced and trusted Resistance pilots had accompanied us girls on our mission, the glistening stars as far as one could see was worth it all. While Rey remained slightly pouting for most of the flight, I was glued to one of the side-windows of the ship. It was a small but bulky transport ship, for a star-fighter couldn't hold that many people and would have attracted too much attention once we landed on Takodana. Albeit its neutrality in the war, one should never act foolishly, especially since neutrality itself depended heavily on the benefits of a foregone alliance. But with Maz Kanata, the owner of the famous castle that granted sanctuary to everyone for one night, and proved friend of the Resistance, nothing could go wrong today and the whole mission seemed as good as done.
Leia had sent us there to retrieve the Jedi texts Maz had bought from a smuggler who had passed through weeks ago, hoping that they might help Rey's training in the Force. Or so I assumed as I curiously scanned the texts before Rey put the few scrolls and loose pages in a safety-box inside her back-pack.
"There's one more thing." Maz rummaged in a small chest among the sheer endless heaps of stuff in the castle's vault, leaving me to wonder how she could possibly remain an overview of what was down here. But perhaps that was why it was such a good hiding-place for forbidden artifacts such as Jedi-texts - as well as the light-sabre Maz now held solemnly in her wrinkled hands.
"Oh my stars, Luke Skywalker's light-sabre!" Rey was beyond herself with joy, her hands trembling slightly as she took the legendary weapon and gingerly inspected it from all sides. Ever the technician, Rey simply had to understand how that thing worked exactly and probably would disassemble the sabre if it hadn't been Luke's.
While I shared my sister's excitement, I couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy as I watched Rey posing with the sabre. As so often, I found myself lacking as compared to my sister and Maz's talk about destiny and great deeds to be done with that sabre didn't make it any better. So I zoned out, sulking quietly in the background, until the three of us left the stuffy vault via seemingly endless stairs. We reemerged back into the dining hall of the castle's ground-floor where the canteen was, without drawing attention of the guests there. In one corner of the hall, a band played jolly tunes, which echoed off the thick castle walls and arched ceiling in a cacophony with the chatter of people. Because of many nooks and columns, the canteen could house many guests without seeming stuffed and a social-introvert like me could feel quite overwhelmed by all the noises, smells and visuals. I had never seen such variety of alien races, humans and droids gathered peacefully in one place.
With our mission virtually accomplished, the Jedi texts secured, it was time for us to return to the base and thus I scanned the canteen for our two escorts. But fate had other plans, for suddenly three very familiar faces appeared at the entrance of the dingy dining hall.
"Han Solo!" Maz cried out, shifting everyone's attention to the smuggler and his companions Chewie, a startled guy in Poe's jacket and Poe himself, his loyal droid BB-8 at his heels.
What in the galaxy are they doing here? I wondered while they approached us, an uneasy tingling overcoming my nerves. In hindsight, to give in and investigate this strange feeling more closely would have spared me so much trouble. But instead I pushed it down and greeted the guys as friendly as ever and soon later we found ourselves seated at the last available table. After getting us some food and beverages, Maz joined us at the round table, listening intently to the quiet conversation. We informed Han about our mission before he could get any wrong ideas (e.g. that we stole a ship and went against Leia's orders) and it felt nice that he cared about our well-being.
"Kriff, that is amazing!" Rey nearly burst with excitement as Poe, with interruptions of Han and Fin (the new guy), told us about what had happened on his mission. To sum it up, Poe had been on Jakku to get a map leading to Luke Skywalker but had been caught by the First Order and tortured by Kylo Ren himself. I shuddered at that part, because everybody knew not to cross paths with this merciless demon. Ren's cruelty and thirst for blood-shed seemed endless, his hatred for the Resistance only fueling his powers, and I could not fathom to imagine what Ren had done to squeeze every ounce of information out of Poe.
Luckily, Poe had entrusted the map to BB-8, who had remained hidden on Jakku the whole time, until Poe had managed to escape by the help of Fin, a renegade stormtrooper. Well, and as if fate had decided to stir things up even more, they had bumped into Han and Chewie on the way - something concerning smugglers and gross aliens, I didn't listen too carefully then - and due to low fuel and necessary repairs they had to make a stop here on Takodana.
"Wow, what a ride..." I said with awe and respect for their courage and luck, which had at least Fin and Poe smile proudly.
"Yeah, didn't exactly go to plan-" Poe replied between sips of his beer, Han scoffing beside him and mumbling something to Chewie about the recklessness of youth. "-but here we are, map in hand."
"And as soon as the Falcon's refueled we're leavin'!" Han declared as soon as Poe finished, his tone harsh but one could tell he only meant well for all of us. "Gonna make sure y'all get back in one piece." Obviously, Leia would have Han's head should anything happen to her girls, her best pilot and the map under his watch. And although I sensed his reluctance to face Leia, I was looking forward to the resemblance of a family. Hopefully they wouldn't quarrel from the start on.
Somewhat lost in my fantasies of a happy family life, I hadn't registered the growing debate between Finn, Rey and Poe.
"... you don't know them as I do! There's no fighting the First Order because they'll slaughter us for even trying. I've seen enough of their horrors and I want nothing to do with them!" Finn declared heatedly and barely kept his voice low as Poe repeatedly urged him to, also keeping the renegade in his chair.
"But that's the point! You have so much detailed insider-information which we could use to fight them! Why would you waste that and cling to the illusion of outrunning them?" Rey retorted with unabashedly directness and not less heatedly, the spirit of the Resistance burning fiercely in her hazel eyes. "Fleeing like a coward."
Finn rose then, anger and shame written across his face, though he didn't come up with a response and after a few seconds gave in to Poe tucking at his sleeve, sat back down and glared into his cup. A tensed silence hung over the table, until Maz subtly changed the subject by engaging Han in a conversation about a mutual smuggler-friend of theirs. With a fuming Rey beside me, I shot Poe a questioning glance, but he looked as helpless beside Finn as I felt and began to talk some sense into Finn in a calm manner. That he should come with us to the base, at least for a little while.
Next to Han, Chewie was eager to get out of here, groaning impatiently beside his friend and rubbing his bandaged arm.
"All right, Chewie, go on and check on our baby." Han said between Maz's babbling and quickly grabbed his beer before Chewie would knock it over as the giant jumped to his feet.
"I'm coming with you." on impulse I rose too, dismissing everyone's questioning looks as I added: "I need some air anyways."
Let them cool their heads while I'm gone, I thought and jogged after Chewie.
Since Maz's castle was built on a cliff surrounded by the ocean on one side and dense forest on the other, the landing-places were spread to a few clearings nearby. So we had to walk a little and although Chewie wasn't particularly chatty, I didn't mind either and enjoyed the beautiful landscape. At the bottom of the weathered castle's stairs, we turned right and followed a lovely path between lush grassy hills at the border of the forest, the rush of the nearby sea accompanying our steps. Suddenly Chewie halted, his hairy arm on my shoulder stopping me too, and pointed towards the thicket. There, half-hidden by the greenery, two humans were carrying a seemingly shut-down BB-8 further away from the castle.
Hasn't BB-8 been with Poe and us the whole time? I wondered briefly. But then, BB-8 was a small droid and many people had squeezed themselves past our table in the brimming canteen. Perhaps we had all been too distracted by the heated conversation between Rey and Finn to notice BB-8's absence.
"I'll follow them and stop them from leaving. You go use that long legs of yours and get the others, Chewie! Rey'll find me through the Force!" I declared in a split-second-decision, already dashing away into the dense forest and leaving a groaning wookiee behind.
Deeper and deeper I ventured in my pursuit, steadily closing the distance between myself and the thieves without alerting them of my presence. As children, Rey and I had often played hide and seek in the forests of Chandrila and I had to develop some pretty decent sneaking-skills to diminish her advantage with the Force. Rey had only once admitted that she wouldn't have won all those times if she hadn't used the Force to sense my approach. Thus, even if my sneaking skills should fail me I trusted that Rey would be able to find me. I just had to stall some time, delay those thugs from leaving, until Rey and the others would arrive. At one point, the two thieves halted to catch their breaths and looked around. I quickly ducked behind a tree, easing my nerves. Suddenly I noticed a bright red stroke on the otherwise blue sky above, far away yet ominous to watch. Though I had no clue what it was, I instantly had a bad feeling about it. But more pressing matters were at hand, and after another deep breath I dared to peek around the trunk. There was only one thief beside BB-8 then.
Kriff, where did the other go?!
Maybe Chewie should have chased them, not me, I admitted to myself as I was hauled by a pair of large hands and thrown very harshly on the forest floor next to the motionless droid.
"Look what followed us, mate!" said the gruff guy to his companion, who looked terribly scrawny in comparison. Both reeked of ale and whatnot, their ugly visages distorted by sinister smiles.
"A pretty thing like that will make a good price, I wager. Not as high as for the droid though." the scrawny one snickered as he mustered me, while the bear-like guy's eyes roamed over my body with a different kind of greed.
"How 'bout a taste..."
"No!" I screamed as he grabbed me, trashing against his hold, and somehow I managed to draw my small combat-knife from its holster at my hips. I thrust without much consideration, nor proper aim, stabbing bear-guy right above the knee. The blade sunk hilt-deep into his thigh-muscle. He howled in pain and repaid me with a hearty slap across my face, sending me flying back against BB-8 and onto the mossy ground. The impact caused the droid to reawaken and a small safety compartment at its front jumped open, the object within landing a few feet ahead of me.
The map! my dizzy mind concluded with horror.
Ignoring the rising pain in my body, I crept on all fours and frantically scanned the forest floor with my hands in a panicked search for the map. Scrawny guy was still laughing at his companion. Knowing that the guys and Poe in particular, had risked their lives for this map and that finding Luke was vital for the future of the Resistance, I simply couldn't loose it nor let it be taken by those thugs. It was my chance to prove my value as part of the Resistance and failing wasn't an option.
What would Leia think if I screw this up? Or Poe?
Then, finally, my right palm touched a metallic longish object and instantly I closed my fingers tightly around it. The very moment I did so, a flash of energy shot through me, momentarily blinding all my senses in its immense light and suddenly the outline of a star-constellation appeared before my inner eye. Planets and stars twinkled in a blueish hue, in between a red dotted line that led to a particular oceanic planet. Though somehow familiar, I could not place this constellation and this strange vision lasted only a few seconds, before a sudden sharp pain in my hand brought me back to my present predicament.
  +++
In front of Takodana castle, the fight between stormtroopers and Resistance had just begun by the time Kylo arrived there. His ship landed like a looming black bird among the First Order transports and agitation spread in his muscles upon the pending blood-shed, especially since he had sensed another force-user inside the castle. By far not as strong as him, but hopefully they would do for some entertainment compared to the other scum-bags that died like flies at his hand. Kylo was marching determinedly towards the building, when he felt it.
A disturbance in the Force within the forest to his right, faintly but clear as a lightning-bolt at distance and vanished just as quickly. Kylo paused, scanned the area with his powers and concluded that the other Force-user was up ahead at the bottom of the castle - not in the direction of the disturbance. Weighing his options, Kylo dismissed the distraction for being just that and walked on to find his opponent. The Force, however, tickled his senses again, rippling with distinct restlessly as if to tempt him and now it seemed foolish not to inquire further.
"Find that droid at all costs! And take no prisoners!" Kylo barked towards a nearby officer, before he stormed off into the forest.
The lightning-bolt had pinned down the exact location and the closer he got, the stronger the Force seemed to pull him there, becoming more insistent with each step. Faster, it seemed to whisper and spurned his steps beyond the capacity of men, neither rocks nor tree-stumps posing a real obstacle in his path. Kylo felt some human presence long before they came into view, two men beating and kicking a woman cowering at their feet. Judging by their appearance, they were either smugglers or Resistance-fighters and either was good enough reason to kill them.
Silent in his approach, Kylo descended upon them like a dark shadow from behind, the hiss of igniting his light-sabre the only foretelling sound of their demise. Effortlessly, the red crackling blade cut through cloth, flesh and bone, drenching the nearby greenery and earth with blood.

Fight or Flight, Rider
Poe Dameron X Pilot!Reader
A/N: Thanks to @writefightandflightclub and @demigod-dragonrider-schoolidol, a fic I wrote has now been made into a full-fledged Oneshot - Hence the fic’s namesake (If I didn’t I’d never have picked a title myself) - I hope you two don’t mind a fic being named after you. (Also, I’m almost tempted to prepare for this to be a multiple-par fic/series, what’d you think?) - Nemo
Based on: This Imagine + Conversation
Summary: Poe was the best pilot in the Resistance fleet, but with the coming of a new recruit - that changes. They’re everything he was, and more. Everyone is impressed by them, but how will Poe react when meeting them face-to-face?

Nothing could ever beat the feeling of flying. Nothing.
Back on your homeworld - a planet filled with murky rainforests - flying was not easy. The trees and constant fog-like rain made flying dangerous, and flinding ships was rare anyway - most travel was done via tree-runners or underground tracks. The fact you got the chance to try a flight simulator when you were ten was complete insanity - but you did, along with many other youths - and you passed.
As it seemed, despite the lack of flying on your planet, a lot of the native people had good reflexes and reaction times - so flying came naturally to most. With the addition of a rapid growth in technology by the time you were twenty, your own ships were built.
Simulators were no more.
The ships were built small, sleek, and made with the capability to handle the pilot’s quick reaction times - they fit into your planet’s biome like a fish swimming in a river.
From there your world changed - even though nothing could be seen from the outside. And it stayed like that, the outside world being unaware of the untapped pilot hoard.
Until word of the Resistance needing help emerged.
An almost ancient distress signal came from the planet of Crait, and your planet’s chief authorities told you - and everyone else in the control room at the time - that they wouldn’t make it in time to reach the Resistance.
You - having filed nicely under the ‘hot-headed rebel pilot’ trope since you stepped into the simulator all those years ago - called their bluff. In front of everyone.
“Our tech gets a new advancement every day.” you said.
“We have hyperdrives in our own individual ships.” you said.
“Why can’t we go help?” you said.
Many other pilots there agreed - no doubt wanting a little more reason to fly other than courses and drills. At the very least, you had around twenty pilots backing you up.
Your superious looked at you, their gazes caught between glares and just plain unimpressed staring - almost as if they were trying to get you to waver. You stood your ground, as did the small group behind you.
The time for true instincts came to show.
Fight, or Flight?
No more than half an hour later you were in your ship - with your squad - ready to jump into hyperdrive, along with three other of your planet’s squadrons. But when you reached Crait, appearing on the planet’s surface, you seemed to be too late.
AT-AT’s and AT-M6’s were on the ground, as were some ruined ski speeders, and the entrance to an old mine was completely blown in. You observed as you took in the surroundings from your ship, despite the destruction there seemed to be no-one around, not in the machines, and not in the entrance to the mine - there wasn’t even any bodies.
“Alpha One, this is Delta One. We’re picking up activity in the North. It appears to be a solo ship. Going to investigate.” The leader of the Delta Squadron -  Joon said.
“Copy that Delta One. Alpha Squadron will follow.” You said, and your squad followed, leaving squads Bravo and Charlie to keep circling the ruins of the fight.
Eventually you came across a ship - one recognisable from your studies as the Millenium Falcon. There were people too, all being taken onto the ship. They looked up at your ships, some smiling, but others were cautious.
“The crew of the Millennium Falcon,” you started, hovering your ship just near the cockpit of the much larger ship, “I am Commander (y/n) (l/n) from the planet Nephimm. We heard the Resistance needed some help.”
“This is Rey,” a reply came almost instantly, a small laugh along with it, “We’re sure glad to see some friendly faces.”
“Good to know.” You said, smiling back - even though Rey wouldn’t have seen it. “Think you could use an escort to wherever you’re headed next?”
---------
So you escorted the Millennial Falcon to Batuu, and the base there - the safest one that they had at the time. Sadly you had to leave them as soon as they got there, orders were orders, so you didn’t get to meet any of them face to face.
Despite leaving so soon, you still kept in touch with Rey, and your people became known as strong, reliable ally to the Resistance. When the call came for pilots to join the Resistance permanently, you jumped at the opportunity - you and a couple others from Nephimm.
That’s what got you here.
Flying a course set by the Resistance leaders - in space no less. This was a dream - no more would you fly the same old courses between trees - now you were set for bigger things, and you were loving it.
“All pilots, times up! Head back to base.” Finn’s voice said, connecting to all the pilots out training through their comms. “Good work guys!”
With that, your joy dispersed, but only slightly. You’d get to do this tomorrow, except it’d be a different course. And if you were lucky, you might not get to do the course - you might get a mission instead.
Less than fifteen minutes later, you were back on solid ground, still in the cockpit of your own X-Wing. You were lucky enough to get one as soon as you came, and while she wasn’t your old ship, she was just as perfect.
A loud thunk of her hull snapped you out of your daydream, you were almost ready to bite the person's ear off for acting so roughly with your ship, but then you saw it was your newest friend - Rey.
“Hey there Missy.” You said, smiling down at her as you climbed out of the ship. “What’re you beating up my ship for?” You shook your head at her, placing your helmet down on a nearby make-shift table.
“There’s a certain someone that wants to meet you.”
“I’m sure there is.” You said, taking the time to step around your ship to check it for any faults - not that there were any visible ones, you were very careful with ships that weren’t entirely yours (even if you did claim this one) - as your little droid relieved itself from its place in the X-Wing. You ran your hand over it’s ‘head’, it let out little beeps in return, before excusing itself.
Little sucker was probably going off to taser a tree or something.
“Seriously (y/n). Poe Dameron wants to meet you!” Rey said, resting a hand on her hip. “You know who he is?”
“Of course I do!” You scoffed. “He’s the best pilot the Resistance has.”
“Yeah, well he wan’t to meet you because apparently he feels he isn’t anymore.” She said, a smug grin reaching her lips as you looked over at her in shock.
“What? Who replaced him?”
She gave you a look, unimpressed at your lack of knowledge.
“Do you really not know?”
“There she is!” A voice called from behind Rey, and two men came over right after. “Rey, is this the pilot?” the closer of the two spoke, resting a hand on Rey’s shoulder as he leant over her to offer you his hand. “Hey, I’m Poe.” He didn’t even wait for Rey to answer him.
You took him hand, shaking it firmly.
He was pretty to look at, you give that to him - with his curly hair and warm brown eyes. Ah, you remembered hearing about him.
“You’re the poster boy.” you said, smiling brightly at him. His face morphed into a shocked and slightly offended one - until you winked at him - then he laughed.
“Wow, you’re awesome.” The other man with him said, and you offered your hand to him too. “I’m Finn.”
“Hey Finn, Poe. My name’s (y/n).”
Despite the face Rey had told them that before, only now did they put two-and-two together. You were the Commander from Nephimm. You’d helped get them off Crait.
“You’re that pilot!” Poe said, causing you to laugh.
“Yes, you’ve said I’m a pilot at least twice now, Commander.” Poe let out a little ‘Oh’, then regained his composure to point to your X-Wing.
 “You always fly like that?”
“Habit.” you shrugged. “Everyone of Nephimm flies like that.”
“Really?”
“Okay, okay, I can see where this could go.” Rey said, stepping forward to rest her hands on both your and Poe’s shoulders. “Finn and I will leave you - Poe to turn full fan-boy, and you to explain. We’ll meet up later, okay?” she said to you, and with your nod, she was off, Finn reluctantly trailing after her - he mentioned something about wanting to talk to you too, but was shushed when Rey said he could later.
“So, everyone on Nephimm flies exactly like that?”
“Well,” you sharted, slowly starting to unzip your flight suit - that thing was hella hot, and a bit heavy, “Not really everyone.”

I’m not a very big Moomin expert or anything, but based on what I know I think Snufkin from the new 2019 show Moominvalley is my favourite version of him. I love the Snufkin from the earlier show, but I relate to and I’m very interested in the way they portray this Snufkin. He is voiced by Edvin Endre, who himself explained he did not want to imitate the former and gave the character a more youthful voice (Snufkin and Moomintroll are explicitly teenagers in this version). I’ve seen some people questioning what is his accent–he’s Swedish (fitting, as the Moomins’ creator Tove Jansson was a Swedish-speaking Finn and the story itself takes place somewhere around Sweden and Finland).
Snufkin is a calm philosophical wanderer who enjoys his own solitude, nature and playing and expressing himself through his harmonica. He’s an expert at living in nature, prefers to have very little material possessions and values freedom. In turn, he hates controlling authority figures and rules. He is greatly admired for his independence and wisdom, especially by small forest critters who don’t have much self-confidence of their own. After he befriended the Moomins, he stays in Moominvalley but always leaves south during winter and returns in spring when the Moomins wake up from hibernation. Him being able to go and leave how he pleases is extremely important for him, though his best friend Moomintroll always misses him greatly as a result.
With all these characteristics, Snufkin is generally considered the ’cool’ character, both by the viewers and the other characters. However, he does hide some insecurities of his own, and one adaptation is explored in great detail in this 2019 version. According to Edvin, Snufkin has always identified with solitude and he is conflicted between being attached to Moominvalley (especially Moomintroll) and being on his own. Notably, he doesn’t seem that close to the other cast in this version, with Moominpappa (who is not the most delicate with words) calling him an ’odd fellow’ and ’antisocial’. I’ve also noticed that this Snufkin is not above getting some slapstick and silly moments.
Tumblr media
In the second episode where he is introduced, we learn a lot. Snufkin is returning to Moominvalley as always, but this time he’s late and has a hard time creating his yearly spring tune. He is frustrated and imagines a pile of snow as Moomintroll, explaining to him he’s not ready to come back yet and apologising that he can’t think of him right now. He gets more and more frustrated when he notices he’s followed by one of those admiring forest critters and grumpily tells him to leave, as he cannot create music when he’s being watched. But the overly talkative creature comes closer anyway and fanboys over Snufkin, who gets really uncomfortable and says you can never be free if you admire someone too much, a feeling he himself knows.
Both figuratively and literally the critter gets too close for comfort, asking Snufkin to give him a name (apparently, the creature is considered so insignificant he doesn’t have one) and talking about how much Moomintroll always misses Snufkin and how close the two are. While he has tried to be nice and control his anger (quite poorly, but still), Snufkin lashes out and says he goes when it suits him and maybe he doesn’t go at all. The sad critter attempts to leave, but Snufkin quickly feels bad and gives him an unique name-Teety-Woo. Teety-Woo is overjoyed, feeling he now has an identity, and quickly leaves when Snufkin isn’t looking. Realizing he is all alone, Snufkin suddenly gets sad and starts to feel massive loneliness, and looks for Teety-Woo in vain. He feels so alone, he feels it’s not like him and he must be ill.
Afterwards, he has a nightmare where he wakes up and continues to move towards Moominvalley, getting more and more desperate, even when he loses his beloved harmonica and a bunch of branches and roots try to grab and restrain him (SYMBOLISM). He smiles in relief when he sees the Moominhouse and a light in Moomintroll’s room. He walks past a hedgehog, who suddenly talks to him and mocks him, telling him there’s no point to come back because he’s been gone so long no one remembers him anymore. Snufkin is bothered by this, but gets even more determined to reach Moomintroll and climbs the ladder to his window. But much to his surprise, he sees Moomintroll has ‘replaced’ him and is happily playing with Teety-Woo. Snufkin is so shocked he falls down the ladder and wakes up from the nightmare shouting for help. He meets Teety-Woo again in friendly terms, confirms that the critter hasn’t actually went to Moominvalley and admits he really wants to see Moomintroll and finally creates his spring tune. You’d expect a very emotional reunion after all of this, but instead Snufkin acts very cool and restrained and formal, not telling Moomintroll about his worries nor giving a hug Moomintroll clearly wanted.
Tumblr media
Another part I found interesting and very relatable as someone who gets anxious during parties; some time later, Snufkin is in a party with Moomintroll, likely invited by him, but despite smiling doesn’t seem comfortable. According to him, he doesn’t dislike people, but he sometimes feels trapped in social situations and needs to be alone for some time. When Moomintroll leaves to refill their drinks, Snufkin instantly gets visibly uncomfortable looking at the people around him and anxiously grasps his hands. When Moomintroll returns, Snufkin has left without a word, feeling too overwhelmed to stay any longer. He feels guilty and assures he will go back when telling this story to Little My (it’s very sweet to me that he feels relaxed hanging with Little My of all people and tells her about his feelings, which could be foreshadowing the possibility that they’re half-siblings like in the original stories). Long story short, Snufkin gets into a conflict with a park keeper after he bumps into his fence and regulation signs while trying to relax in the nature. Due to a misunderstanding, Moomintroll and Snorkmaiden are blamed for his vandalism and get locked in jail, making him feel even more guilty. He attempts to rescue them and then takes their place in jail as he confirms they’re innocent (and Snufkin obviously really isn’t a fan of being locked up or bossed around by police). Moomintroll comes up with a plan to get him out quicker which at first seems like a great punishment. Snufkin doesn’t realize Moomintroll’s plan at first and believed Moomintroll was truly angry with him, and genuinely felt ’it’s all he deserves’ after leaving Moomintroll at the party (ouch).
Tumblr media
Snufkin can be too distant and Moomintroll can be too dependant, but the narrative never treats either of them as the bad guy for it. Snufkin doesn’t want to be vulnerable in front of Moomintroll and feels needing someone besides himself will hold him back, while Moomintroll is so attached to Snufkin it can make him feel bad but he doesn’t voice his discomfort because he wants to respect Snufkin’s boundaries. They just need to get better at communication and be more honest about their feelings, and the series seems to be leading up to this.

10, 25, 28 for delaney & 20 for finnian? :3
DELANEY
10. do they like children? do children like them? do they have or want any children? what would they be like as a parent? or as a godparent/babysitter/ect?
she doesn’t love children by any means, but she’s actually really good with them! she’s just the right mix of enthusiasm, friendliness and empathy that makes most kids comfortable, and her lack of respect for authority she doesn’t accidentally talk down to kids and make them feel inferior. it’s kind of ridiculous how good she is with them, really. i’m not sure she’d ever want any of her own though, mostly because that seems like a Lot of responsibility and she’d be terrified of fucking up her kids like her parents fucked her up.
25. what do they find funny? do they have a good sense of humour? are they funny themselves?
she has a great sense of humour, and is good for a laugh with most people. she’s just a very bubbly, charismatic person, and likes to be sarcastic a lot. she definitely finds herself funny too.
28. what is their biggest fear? what in general scares them? how do they act when they’re scared?
being forgotten, or being alone. she spent so much of her youth abandoned in a basement only to be brought out when she was useful, not loved or known by anyone and completely insignificant in every sense of the word, and she’ll do anything to avoid feeling like that ever again. it’s why she wants to be a night city legend so much, at least in the beginning - if she’s a legend, no one will ever forget her, right? she has major abandonment issues and fears being left alone a fair bit.
VANCE (i actually changed finn’s name to the surname i gave him, so it’s vance now!)
20. do they like musicals? music in general? what do they do when they’re favourite song comes?
he’s always been a music lover ever since he was a kid and used to ride in his dad’s pickup along abandoned dirt roads with old-world rock blasting over the stereo, but not so much musicals. growing up on the road he was introduced to them, and honestly prefers regular music anyway. if he’s alone in his car he’ll happily sing along or tap the steering wheel to the beat, but will restrain himself around others (especially kerry, at first) because he’s self conscious of his voice.

Audio
Julien was not the greatest when it came to time management. He tried to stay on top of his responsibilities as best he could, but he knew himself. He knew he had to pick and choose his activities carefully in order to do any of them well. That was why typically, he stuck to high school musical theater which only had productions in the fall and spring. Winter was his open season and he chose to fill with hockey and show choir...typically.
The decision to audition for Into The Woods had been made in haste by one Julien Schuester. As he approached the theater that the Lima Players operated out of in time for his audition slot, there was a nagging feeling in his belly that he would come to regret this. Nonsense, he thought to himself. He was seventeen now. Sure, maybe when he was a freshman and even when he was a sophomore, he struggled to maintain a good balance. But now? He was an upperclassman. He had a grip on his schedule. He was doing a pretty good job managing glee club, school and having a girlfriend. He’d been able to handle himself during Grease too. He knew that adding hockey and a community theater production to his schedule would cause a bit of a strain, but he could do it...right?
Right!
Tumblr media
Auditioning for a Lima Players production was admittedly a tad more intimidating than auditioning for a WMHS production. Even though Julien wholeheartedly believed that he earned his past leading roles because of his hard work and talent rather than who his dad or brother was, there was still something scary about knowing he wouldn’t be auditioning in front of his brother. What if his success so far was just because of nepotism? What if he wasn’t as good as he thought he was?
Julien ditched his self-doubt at the door and walked into the building with a smile and his shoulders squared. He was a master at faking it until he made it and he would not let his onslaught of nerves get in the way of his performance. He chose to be positive about this whole situation. It was like Ivy said—he hadn’t done a Lima Players production since middle school, so he was like fresh meat to them. He was prepared. He’d spent a lot of time rehearsing at home and in the choir room, getting pointers from Dan and his dad, and he’d even practiced his monologue and song in front of Finn and Wren a couple of times. He was confident that he was going to make a good impression.
Julien was sitting in the lobby, resume and headshot in hand, when a casting director emerged from the auditorium doors and called his name. He stood up with a friendly smile, handed the woman his paperwork, and made his way to the stage. Into The Woods was a fun show with lots of parts—all of them good. Julien had spent a lot of time mulling over which role to go for. The Baker was obviously the best role. It was the true lead in his eyes. And then, of course, there was Cinderella’s prince and Rapunzel’s, too. “Hi! I’m Julien Schuester,” he greeted with a wide smile once he found his light center stage, “and today, I’ll be performing an arragement of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ from The Wizard of Oz and ‘Home’ from The Wiz.” A breath. “I’ll also be performing a monologue from the film Silver Lining’s Playbook.”
As much as Julien secretly wanted to be a Prince and as fun as it would be to be Cinderella’s prince if Ivy got Cinderella...he knew in his heart of hearts that he wasn’t the obvious choice. Not when there were chiseled and annoyingly charming guys like Davis Goolsby who unfairly looked like an adonis. So ultimately, he decided to go for the Baker, as written on his audition sheet. He was open to any role, of course, but that was what he felt best suited for and no one had told him differently. Once he’d finished his introduction, Julien took a small step back and gave his accompanist a nod to start playing the song. He closed his eyes and took a grounding breath as the piano swelled.
When all the world is a hopeless jumble And the raindrops tumble all around Heaven opens a magic lane
Julien sang with an earnestness from the very first note. ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ was a song he held very close to his heart ever since childhood—one his dad sang to him and his siblings often. The decision to combine it with ‘Home’ was simply to showcase his range, both emotionally and vocally, and because he liked the way the songs spoke to each other. Into The Woods was a literal journey from start to finish, so he wanted his audition piece to reflect a similar energy.
When I think of home I think of a place where there's love overflowing I wish I was home I wish I was back there with the things I been knowing
As the song reached its crescendo, Julien squeezed his eyes shut and sang out the words with all his might. He knew this piece like the back of his hand at this point, so he allowed himself a little freedom to get lost in it and riff away. Julien tried to channel the Baker’s determination into his performance. He was a misguided character who was a bit simple, sure, but he was loving and loyal too, which Julien found he could easily relate to. At the end of the day, he was the hero of the story. Julien believed he had what it took to portray that. After the song hit its peak, Julien’s demeanor softened as he gazed out at the directing panel with wonder in his eyes. Julien had a youthful energy that came through clearly when he slowed things down for the final verse. When he belted out the final line of the song, he did so with every ounce of fearlessness that he could muster.
Why, oh why can't I?
Julien made it look effortless to hold his last note but was admittedly a bit breathless when he finished his song. He gave the pianist a grateful nod for following along and not screwing him up and after giving himself a moment to regroup, launched into his monologue. His choices were a bit erratic, but Julien found the parallels between the monologue and the plot of Into The Woods to be kind of funny. He hoped that subconsciously it would aid in the director seeing him in that role. As Julien performed, he really tried to capture Pat’s energy—a broken man going through marriage troubles and desperately trying to fix it. The drawback to Julien choosing a monologue like this was that he had a boyish charm at his age that was hard to escape. Would the audience really believe him as a man?
When he wrapped up his monologue, Julien found his light again and clasped his hands in front of his chest as he bowed his head with a satisfied smile. He’d given it his all and that was all he could really do, wasn’t it? “Thank you,” he said, nodding gratefully to the folks on the panel before exiting stage left with his pride in tact and his head held high.

The Hudsons Strike Back
Who: Sawyer & Fauna Hudson @sawyer-hudson (guest appearances by Molly Sheridan and Tommy Deluca)
When:  26th of November 2020
Where: Ohio
What: Fauna and Sawyer meet up with two blasts from Sawyers past, with explosive consequences
Warnings: Slut shaming, mild violence, threatening language, references to unsafe practices, homophobia and an almost slur
“I’ll admit you Americans do decorate for Fall better.” Fauna conceded as they passed shop window after shop window filled with Thanksgiving themed displays. “Obviously Ireland is superior in every other way. But I’ll give you this one thing.” She teased pressing herself a little tighter against Sawyers side. The bright smile on her face having been stuck there practically since they’d left their claim interview.
Sawyer supposed that, growing up with Thanksgiving, he'd never had been one to notice the decorations, but spent a good look at some of the display windows that Fauna had pointed out. He wrapped his coat-laden arm around her tiny waist, laughing slightly at her teasing words. They had barely stopped laughing since the moment their claim came through, and he couldn't see it stopping anytime soon. "We really love Thanksgiving over here," He told her, "but yeah, Ireland is definitely superior. I was amazed at seeing all of the Belfast Christmas decorations last year."
She felt so warm despite the wind, as he wrapped his arm around on her waist her body alight with her own delight at the world right now. “I like the american commitment to going as big as possible with everything, so you made up a holiday and now you're gonna like.. do it hard." Fauna agreed knowing it was about time that she gave her new homeland it’s dues. "So remind me.. what was your hang out around here when you were in high school? I need to contextualise all those fun pictures that your Mom showed me this morning."
Sawyer furrowed his brow at Fauna's subtle dig at Thanksgiving. "Made up a holiday?" He repeated, "Surely, all holidays are made up in some way or another. Is this the whole Irish Catholicism thing about it being something not centred around Jesus?" Sawyer knew that, the actual reality behind Thanksgiving was a lot more grim than sitting around with family to share thanks and eat turkey, but sadly, his patronism had to win out against this one. Her other question made him laugh, and roll his eyes. "I still cannot believe Mom showed you all those pictures. They're super embarassing." He shook his head. "Um, there's a Barnes and Noble I spent a lot of time in, over that way. There's also this record store -- Groamy's CD's and Tapes -- it's not in here, but we can head over later if we can be bothered?" Sawyer suggested, directing her towards the stores he and his friends hung out in their youth. "There's also this, like, froyo place. I spent a lot of time there with --" He trailed off, noticing someone not even three feet away from the couple, "-- Molly." That wasn't who he had actually spent time with at the frozen yogurt shop -- that was actually Leanne -- but Molly was the person in front of time, who had noticed Sawyer in the same awkward way he had noticed her, with neither of them pretending they hadn't just seen the other. Basically, Sawyer's worst nightmare.
“If the holiday doesn’t have deep roots in Celtic paganism then I’m afraid it doesn’t hold much appeal for me.” Fauna shrugged with a teasing little giggle. “If I don’t feel the mood includes having been able to celebrate it in the woods like witches then I’m afraid it simply doesn’t get me going.” She declared, patting his chest through his coat as she reached to adjust her hair a little. “I can’t wait for her to get out the second album, apparently you went through a phase of holding up books in photos and I definitely think you should go back through that phase so you can self identify as a nerd.” She giggled, nodding along with him describing the places they could visit. “I like froyo.” She started and then noticed him staring at  something, and with a little curl in the bottom of her stomach she noticed Molly. It was odd, seeing her in the flesh when she’d spent so long pouring over her instagram pictures. Without really thinking about it the brunette leaned in closer to Sawyer unsure if this was a motion of support for him or an act possessiveness. “Do you want to say hi?” She asked quietly.
He shook his head with a laugh. "I always knew you were a witch, this basically confirms it." He told her with a laugh, cringing at the memories he knew that photo album would brings. "I mean I can self-identify as a nerd without such a cringey practice, thank you." However, after he noticed Molly, he admittedly didn't hear what Fauna said at first, and it seemed like time had stopped around him, his heart beating erratically. He heard Fauna's question slightly too late, feeling her body lean in even closer to him. "Hmm, what?" He asked, it suddenly registering to him. "Uh, I don't know if it's best...." The Dominant trailed off when it was made apparent his decision had been made for him, as Molly closed the space between them. "Sawyer?" Molly asked, almost as if hoping it wasn't him, that it was Finn with a haircut, or some third dopplegänger wandering around the Lima, Ohio mall. "Hey, it's good to see you." She stepped towards him as if to give him a hug, faltering slightly, and settling for just making it seem like she shifted her weight instead. "Molly!" Sawyer said, his smile not quite reaching his eyes. "Yeah, good to see you too." After a moment, he glanced down at Fauna. "Oh, so, Fauna, this is...Molly, my...er..." He felt rude to refer to her as her ex, but he also felt rude if he didn't acknowledge their relationship, so he took the coward's way out and said nothing at all, just trailed off. "And Molly, this is Fauna...my...claim."
Fauna tried not to let her face be pinched by the nerves and jealously that she was feeling. She knew it was a poisonous habit to compare yourself to other women, to survey Mollys outfit and wonder if she looked better than her. If she’d heard any girl she knew doing such a thing she would have given them a dressing down. So she painted on a soft smile, hoping that her malice played as nerves. Though she kept her body tight against Sawyers frame as she spoke. She waited to see if Molly really would go for the hug for a moment, and was relieved when she didn’t. Seeing the tension in Sawyers frame, and noting that his face seemed tight. He was uncomfortable, and so it was her job to make this more comfortable. To put him first even though she quite wanted to drag him down and kiss him until he wouldn’t remember Mollys name. “Pleased to meet you. And kinda weird to see you come to life.” She chattered offering Molly her own hand to shake. “I’ve seen you on Finns insta.” She explained in what was a partial lie.
A part of Sawyer was amazed that Fauna and Molly -- two very different parts of his life -- were speaking, and kinda jus stood there as Fauna offered out her hand to shake. Molly took it with a warm smile, always so infectiously nice to everyone she met. "Pleased to meet you too, that reminds me I need to hit up Finn, haven't caught up with him in a while. And, uh," She glanced between the two of them, "congratulations! On the...the claim." Sawyer's heart ached at the way she had stumbled over her words, not even bearing to imagine how it felt to see someone so happy an content. "Thank you," Sawyer said, biting his lip, not knowing what else to say. It was a lie, he knew what he wanted to say. He was saying to Fauna less than 2 months ago how he wanted closure with Molly for that night, for the way their relationship ended. But a busy mall the day before Thanksgiving wasn't the time or place to discuss his past, especially when he was with Fauna, his future. "Do you, still live here, in town?" He asked. "Yeah," Molly said, with a nod, seemingly suspicion. Sawyer nodded in response. "Good, we're here until Wednesday. If um, if you want to catch up sometime?" He suggested, heart racing, clutching round Fauna's waist as if his life depended on it. There were many ways it could go. She could say no, make up an excuse and that be that. She could say yes, and it'd be awful and open up old wounds that'd take longer to heal. Or...she could say yes, and it'd go surprisingly well. The risk of it all was in the asking, he supposed.
Fauna turned off the part of her brain that wanted to overanalyse every word that Molly was saying for now, hating how much she resented how sweet the other girl was being. “He’s knocking about town somewhere.” Fauna added as she shook the other girls hand. Glad that Sawyer was far too distracted to note the fake quality to the smile that she was giving. She was sure Molly wouldn’t know the difference, but Sawyer knew her too well usually for this shitty performance to pass.  “I’m sure he’d be pure thrilled to see you.” The brunette confirmed continuing her barrage of friendliness. “Cheers. It’s a fun time of year for it to happen. Whilst the yanks are giving thanks.” Fauna rhymed, wondering why she had suddenly become Doctor Suess. He invites her, and Fauna can feel how tense he is. Her little hand smoothing across his back in comfort. She wanted him to know that she supported him, that she understood why he needed to have this conversation. “Please take him off my hands.” She encouraged gently. “I’ve got Christmas shopping to do, and all these limbs can occasionally get in the way.” She added, taking the cheap shot at her boyfriend to let Molly know that it was okay to say yes, and that she would be far out of the way if this little meet up were to happen.
Sawyer relaxed at the way Fauna was soothing him, knowing his laugh at her silly, yet adorable rhyme, and the teasing about his height sounded way too fake and tight to his own ears, trying to calm himself from the panic, to not let the troubled inside bleed through onto the put-together outside. Half of him wanted Molly to say no, the other half yes, and the few seconds between him asking, and her answering was driving him mad. Molly had laughed at Fauna's joke, "Tell me about it, I was always scared about him accidentally catching himself on a railing and knocking a display over. Or bumping his head on one of those ceiling beams." She agreed, and Sawyer found it nice they were bonding over...something. Even if it was his tallness. She turned back to Sawyer. "Yeah, I'd be up for...grabbing a coffee or something? Maybe Friday?" She suggested, before turning back to Fauna to ask, "That's okay, right? No special plans or anything?" He supposed she either asked Fauna for some special 'girl' thing, or maybe her own experiences with Sawyer knew that, no matter the designations, Sawyer was never the one to make the plan in the relationship, and even now, as a claimed Dominant, he knew Fauna would be the one making the bulk decisions on how they'd be spending their day or night.
Fauna was glad Molly laughed, she really did want the other girl to feel like she was okay with everything. Because objectively she was. She wanted them both to be able to get closure on what was clearly a very painful chapter of their lives, she just didn’t want them to get too much closure to a point that they missed one another or wanted to start over. “He’s a danger to himself and society when he gets going. It’s why him and his brother have to wear so many layers.. to kinda cling film their limbs.” It was a weak joke and she’d probably apologise for it later, but it was the best that she could come up with while she was so distracted. Molly looked to her and the nasty little Tinkerbell buried deep down inside smirked. As if to say ‘yes nothing happens with him without my say so’ but she pushed the fairy into the drawer and smiled the best and softest one that she should. “No special plans. You kids have fun, maybe I’ll let Finn persuade me into that Maize Maze he’s so convinced that I should visit.”
Sawyer felt himself blush at all the height jokes, ducking his face into his scarf so they didn’t have further ammunition regarding his reddened face. “Coffee sounds good,” He said, slightly delayed, nodding when Fauna gave the go-ahead that Friday was fine. Molly nodded, smiling politely still. “I mean, the Maize Maze is the only selling point of Lima, so you may as well go see our famous landmark. I mean it’s no Statue of Liberty or anything but it’s something.” Sawyer laughed at this, thinking back to all the times Finn had begged to go to that maze, with a reluctant Sawyer and Molly joining him, knowing his brother would be really grateful for Fauna to take him up on that offer. “Honestly I’m sure if he could, Finn would have moved into that maze a long time ago.” He commented, “Um so, Friday...at the Starbucks on the corner?” He suggested, wanting them to meet up in a neutral place that meant nothing to either of them, that also granted them some privacy. “Sure. Two-ish?” Molly asked, and a part of Sawyer wondered if she was hoping that time was too inconvenient for him, and a part of him wanted to lie and say it couldn’t work, but it was true that he had no plans that day. So he swallowed down the lie and grinned. “Two-ish works. It was...um, it was really good to see you.” He said hesitantly. Molly’s smile formed into something that, whilst genuine, was tighter. “Yeah, you too. And uh, it was really nice meeting you too, Fauna.” She said with a wider smile, and Sawyer wondered if he imagined the sad glint in her eyes for a millisecond.
“Well I guess I can perform some kind of study on the difference in Maize Maze foliage between Ireland and Ohio.” Fauna found herself saying without really knowing why. Finn had seemed very excited by the idea of them all going into the Maze together and would probably be disappointed that Sawyer had made plans without him. But Fauna was sure as long as Alexis went the other Hudson brother wouldn’t really care. The tension between the two other people standing there remained in the air, and Fauna reached over with her spare hand to subtly take his much larger one in hers and to gently squeeze it. To say, it’s okay I’m here, you’re doing so very well with all of this. Seeing Molly here must have been something akin to bumping into Charlotte and instead of running Sawyer was doing everything in his power to face this all head on and for that Fauna had to support him. Molly addressed her, and Fauna made sure she was smiling when she said. “Lovely to meet you too Molly. I hope you have a wonderful holiday.” She nodded, trying not to sound as distracted by Sawyers discomfort as she actually was.
Sawyer let out a small contorted laugh at Fauna’s randomness. He knew she had her moments, it was the Flanagan gene, but she rarely caught him by surprise like this. His heart was pounding in his chest, smoothed only by Fauna clasping his hand in hers and squeezing it. I’m here, she silently told him. He squeezed back; an I know, a thank you, and I’m here too. They finally shared their awkward goodbyes with Molly and she shuffled away, Sawyer purposefully walking past the store they were originally heading for to collapse on a bench, feeling nauseous, limbs heavy. “Jesus Christ,” He murmured, his large hands supporting his head. “That was the worst thing to have ever happened.”
She was simply glad that he’d squeezed back, there was a part of her that had worried he’d be too nervous to care about their little signal. She kept hold of him as she watched Molly go, silently hating the other girl for having made the day take this turn. She let him pull her along, heart aching as he collapsed into the bench, small hands finding his shoulders as he sat down, standing over him protectively. “Hey.. you did so well Sawyer. Honestly you were so brave, inviting her out like that. I couldn’t be more proud of you.” She promised, rubbing her thumbs over his shoulders. “You were so kind and open. It literally couldn’t have gone better. Even if it was bloody awful to get through.” Fauna promised him, feeling like she wanted to shield him from the world while he took a moment to recover.
He gave himself a moment to compose himself, to slow his heartbeat, and control his reddened face. Fauna's very presence there helped immensely, and he didn't know if he could have done it without her by his side. "Yeah?" He asked, looking up at her, feeling uncharacteristically small in this moment. "I'm just...I'm just glad it's over." Sawyer offered a small grin to his submissive, "Hopefully that litle detour down Memory Lane is the only one..." He trailed off as he noticed someone else make their way down through the mall, and Sawyer just watched with a blank stare, in disbelief that he had just jinxed himself. But there he was, Tommy de Luca, in the flesh. Sawyer silently prayed the other man wouldn't see him, but apparently the universe was ignoring his pleas today, as the high school bully  of the Hudson-Hummel clan beelined towards Sawyer and Fauna.
Fauna just continued to smooth her thumbs over his shoulders as he composed himself, she would give him all the time in the world if he needed it. “Yeah, you were friendly and open and you left things open for her and that’s all anyone could hope for.” The brunette promised him, reaching to take one of his big hands. “It is over and you don’t have to think about it for a while. I think we need a winter warmer.. come on I’ll buy you the biggest gingerbread latte that Starbucks does-“ She started. “Oi Hudson. Didn’t know you were in town.” Tommy called coming all the way up to them. “Having a cry already? Sad that drunk old Dad won’t make it to Thanksgiving.” He taunted trying to look around Fauna. Who turned to him with a little scowl gracing her face. “I don’t know who you think you are, but you can get fucked. Stat.” The Irish girl demanded waving her hand  as if to direct him to leave. “Aww it’s cute that you’ve got this little girl standing up for you Hudson. That’s a pretty short skirt she’s got on, I can practically see her ass hanging out.”
All of Fauna's soothing words of encouragement didn't register to Sawyer as Tommy came up to them, taunting them. It had been years since they had last seen each other, and honestly, Sawyer pitied the other man. He was so scared of his feelings and himself, and just had to take it out on others. A part of Sawyer, the nasty high school jock who stirred when Tommy's voice was heard, wanted to loudly point that out and embarass him, but he pushed it down. No matter how vile Tommy was, Sawyer was to show him some compassion. And he was willing to ignore him until he could feel his legs again and he and Fauna could carry on their day. Until he came for Fauna that was. Then it was all cards off the table. Sawyer stood tall, all 6"5 of him towering over Tommy, dropping Fauna's hand as he did, scowl etched on his face. "That little girl, Tommy, happens to be my claim, Fauna," Sawyer informed him, voice low and dangerous, "normally I'd list her accomplishments, like how she graduated high school early back in Belfast, or how she finished med school with top grades, or her list of amazing extracurriculars, including being a flyer on the cheer team of one of the best finishing schools in the country, and captaining science club." His scowl turned into a nasty smirk, a piece of vital information the couple had laughed about months earlier suddenly popping into his head, "But I don't need to, because she informed me last month you seemed to have liked a photo of hers from 275 weeks ago. So it seems like you pretty much know our deal. Now," He clenched his fist and his jaw, "Get out of my fucking face, de Luca, or the 'ass hanging out' of my submissive's skirt will be the last thing you ever fucking see."
Tommy seemed pleased when Sawyer stood, obviously having hoped to gain a rise out of him when he mentioned Fauna. Willing to do anything to capture the Dominants attention. Though there was a flicker of something akin to fear in his eye when Sawyer mentioned that he'd liked Faunas picture. "Well.. I'm a fan of her work. As I'm sure is every fucking guy in town, I've seen her little videos. Makes sense that the only girl you'd manage to get is a fucking slut- but then it's probably the Daddy issues that bonded you." Tommy sneered. Fauna put a little hand on Sawyers chest, she didn't care if he hit Tommy but she felt like he would care. Like he would feel like he'd let himself down or something. Tommys words stung because he was repeating one of her more significant fears. That all of Sawyers friends, and relatives would see her videos and wonder why he was ever with her. That they would all think he'd done rather badly for himself, their all American boy, and yet it was more sad to her that Tommy had taken the time to watch her video at all. Considering the fact that he was most likely a gay man. "Thanks for your views Tommy, bit sad though that you spend your time stalking me rather than- I don't know finding a submissive or a life of your own. I think it's time we all moved on from high school.. don't you? Or is your life really so fucking empty that Sawyer and I's relationship is the only thing you have to think about." She snapped.
Tommy bristled again, his face briefly twisting with an expression of something akin to shame as he looked past Fauna at Sawyer. Fauna almost felt bad for him because she could almost see the pining buried deep underneath all that bravado. She more than anyone understood what it was like to want Sawyer more than anything else. "You really are pathetic these days Hudson, letting your whore of a submissive fight your battles for you. Did you finally end up on drugs like your deadbeat Dad? Drinking to get yourself through the day. Reflex's too slow to take me on like in high school, or maybe you're scared that even she'll leave you if she see's what a fucking psychopath you are. That's why every other fucking girl you ever dated left you right, scared you'd fucking snap on them. Because you're a fagg-" While Tommy had been speaking Fauna had removed one of her mittens from her hand, and curled her fist in the exact way that Percy had once taught her after a few too many. Then she simply pulled back her arm and punched him as hard as she could possibly muster in the nose, her fist meeting his face with a satisfying crack. Tommy recoiled but Fauna advanced on him. "Don't you ever fucking speak to him like that again you vile little cunt. He's too fucking nice to ever ruin you but I'm bloody not. You ever so much as breathe in my Dominants direction ever again and I'll break your fucking arm and I'll make sure you never so much as take out a pizza in peace. You hear me?"
Each word hit Sawyer like a tonne of bricks, and he could feel the anger practically burning in his veins. His fists were clenched, and he stepped closer, fully aware he was going to give Tommy exactly wha the other wanted to get out of his taunting. However, Fauna was too quick for him. He looked in shock horror as her small fists made contact with Tommy's face, and he winced as he heard the definite cracking of the other man's nose. The threat Fauna made to him wasn't pretty either. Sawyer frantically looked around, noticing some people were beginning to stare, and he knew he had to do something before they got in trouble. Without thinking, he picked up Fauna and put her aside, before pushing Tommy against the wall in a blind mix of panic and rage. "If her hand is fucking broken from what you made her do, you're finished De Luca." He growled, before dropping his grip on him. He then swooped Fauna up and began to briskly walk away from the scene, muttering the word 'fuck' repeatedly under his breath until they were safely back in Sawyer's mom's car, luckily not followed by Tommy or any security personnel. "Fuck!" He then exclaimed once he could breathe again.
Fauna couldn't stop herself from smirking just for a minute when she saw how completely she had broken Tommys nose, the doctor inside of her told her he'd need it reset pretty pronto. Her smirk faded when she saw the panicked look on her Dominants face, and felt pretty terrible for scaring him. Surprised when he lifted her up and put her aside, an apology dying on her lips. She tried really hard not to be aroused by the way that Sawyer pushed Tommy up against the wall, and instead just sort of stood there until he pulled her off her feet again. She didn't say a word as he carried her out of there, flexing her hand a little. It wasn't broken, Percys advice had proved once again to be solid, it might need icing later though she'd hit Tommy as hard as she could muster. "I'm sorry Sir." She said in a small voice once they were in the car. "I know you didn't want to hit him, but I couldn't let him say all those things to you that weren't true. I know I was a bad girl."
Sawyer’s heartbeat was slowing from the adrenaline rush he received during those few moments interacting with Tommy. In response to Fauna’s apology, his heart panging at the softness in her tone, he leaned over and kissed her hard. “Thank you,” He murmured, “don’t be sorry. He deserved it. You were amazing.” Sawyer promised. “I just really didn’t want us to get arrested a few days after being claimed.”
The tiny brunette felt a sense of relief when he leaned over and kissed her, her hand coming up to touch his cheek. “Oh good.” She responded breathlessly. “I mean I don’t want to get arrested either, I’ll be honest I wasn’t really thinking about it. My brain was more focused on making more nobody ever spoke to you like that ever again. I don’t know how you managed it in high school. He’s a class A cunt.” She said without remorse.
He let out a short laugh as she explained her reasoning behind the actions. "Honestly, that's how I managed it in high school," He admitted, "I'm surprised his nose isn't permanently bandaged up." Sawyer let out a sigh as he thought about Tommy again. "God, you have to really feel sorry for a kid like that, so angry at himself he takes it out on others in that way." He glanced down, gently taking Fauna's hand. "It's not broken, is it? Because I will make good on my promise and go back and kill him for you."
Fauna laughed too. "I mean I hardly blame you, if anyone ever spoke to Ror like that I'd have made damn well sure they didn't have teeth by the time the bell rang." She shrugged. "It is sad.. and so weird that he's still stalking you hard enough that he knew that much about me. I mean I get it because I'm also like obsessed with you but still I wish he could just come to terms with himself." She said quietly, shaking her head as he took her hand. "No it's not broken, it'll bruise but that's a given considering how hard I hit him. Percy taught me how to throw a punch without breaking my hand when I was like nine, it was some of the only useful knowledge he's ever shared with me."
Sawyer nodded in agreement, imagining the visual. "Well, that was the case for me in school, especially with Finn. Tommy tortured the poor guy. It's just...I keep remembering the day he approached me, and how normal and friendly he was," He shrugged, "Sometimes I feel like hooking up with him was the wrong call. Like it just made him feel worse about himself, confirmed it for him all those feelings were slightly more complex than he hoped to be." Truthfully, Sawyer didn't know much about how Tommy was truly feeling, his therapist even said that she couldn't diagnose him from a second-hand account, but that's the conclusion they had 'hypothetically' reached. "Well, let's go get some ice on it. Maybe something with sugar in it. Your dad really taught you to punch like that?" He paused, thinking about Percy, and laughed. "You know what, yeah, I can see it."
Fauna reached with the hand that he wasn’t holding to push his hair off his face tenderly. “You couldn’t have known.. people start relationships out of things like that. Like people who get married... Hooking up with him could have ended with you guys even just being friendly.. but it didn’t and that’s his choice. You gave him a chance that he didn’t deserve by even getting a hot dog with him... one day probably when he’s like 48 and finally ready to accept himself. You’ll get some weird apology via Facebook messenger. Or maybe you won’t, but either way he’s the one that not only did you dirty here but also did himself dirty. Because hooking up with you is literally the third best thing in the world.” She pressed a kiss against his left cheek. “Getting to know you, that’s the second best.”  Fauna pressed a second kiss against his right cheek. “And getting to love you is the greatest privilege in the world.” She told him with her impish smile. “Sugar! Yes please.” She agreed happily. “Perfect thing to teach your nine year old after you’ve had a pint or eight. How not to break your hand when punching someone.”
"I can't wait to read out the weird Facebook message when we're sat on our porch watching the sunset," He teased lightly, her words washing over him in a soothing manner. Fauna always knew the right thing to say, and Sawyer was ultimately grateful. He grinned as she listed the top three favourite things about him, feeling himself blush at the words. "That's funny, because loving you is the greatest privilege to me. Guess our lists are pretty similar." He murmured, before catching his lips against hers. "Okay, let's head to a grocery store. Who knows, maybe Cassidy will be lurking in the deli aisle, or Brad is hiding among the cereals." He joked with a weak smile, shaking his head at the idea of Fauna's dad. "Well it came in handy. We should send him a bottle of whiskey as a thank you." He deadpanned, not sure where this random bout of dry humour had come from, probably still in shock from the rollercoaster he had been on today.
She was glad that he seemed less tense, that she'd managed to soothe over some of the hurt of this particularly jarring little trip down memory lane. "As long as he doesn't hope you'll run into his arms in the sunset I'd enjoy that very much." The little brunette agreed, kissing him for a long lazy moment before smiling when he returned her compliment. "I think we have a lot of similar lists which is good, considering you agreed to be my prisoner for life once after I held you at knife point." Fauna laughed at the idea of Brad lingering in the cereals. "It's okay Sawyer the wild Brad is more scared of you than you are of him." She giggled, and then let out another stream of giggles when he joked about the bottle of whiskey. "Or just the half drunk one in our kitchen?"
Sawyer chuckled at the imagery. "If he ever ran down towards me, I'd honestly sock him, it's my knee jerk reaction." He admitted, feeling safe and secure that Fauna didn't care about his past, especially now he watched her throw a punch of his own. "Well, as you can tell, I held up my end of the bargain. I'll gladly be your prisoner until the end of time. Knife of no knife." He promised her, momentarily holding his fingers up in Scout's Honour. The words about Brad made him huff in amusement, mostly because they were true, but at least Brad's internalised homophobia was presented in him being overtly nice, too considerate about personal space and boundaries. It was still a shitty thing, to be hiding away like that, but at least Brad had some compassion. "God, that would drive your dad crazy, returning a half-drunk bottle of whiskey, maybe a note on how you do prefer 'that swill' after all," He joked in reference to Percy's dismissal approach to Fauna's usual drinks of choice. "Come on, Kitten," He then said, "let's blow this popsicle stand, before the cops hunt us down."
Fauna giggled at the image of Tommy trying to run into Sawyers arms, and Sawyer just panicking and smacking him one. "I mean I would also have that reaction to a lot of my past hook ups so maybe it's natural." The irish girl suggested lightly. "I let you collar me so I think I'm keeping my end of the deal too." She agreed, returning his scouts honour with her tongue stuck out for effect. "God, he's such a dick about alcohol until he's had a couple in him and then he's suddenly willing to do a shot of bathtub gin." She sighed, and then nodded. "Rodger that Sir, on the run we go. Bonnie and Clyde for life!"

The Paradox - Previously...
991 AD
"Jemima get back here!" The young mother yelled at her second youngest to get back in line. "Come on love, be a lady-" "But I'm only 10; why do I have to-" Short hair obscured her vision, green eyes glaring moodily at the ground in front of her boots. "Because she said so. Listen to your mum Jemmie." Her father ruffled her chestnut hair, smiling kindly. "We've got to show these people that we can live with them and cause no problems, eh?" He leaned down with a twinkle in his eyes, "after they let us in we can be annoying, hmm?" He winked, making his children giggle and his wife lightly cuff him on the arm. "Erik-" The young lady glared playfully at her husband, shaking her head a little. "Mary." He smiles cheekily in return.
"Are we there yet?" A soft voice spoke up from behind the married couple. "Not yet Alley Cat," Edmund Erikson, the eldest of the four children, replied, "but we should be there soon", he added with a soft smile at the youngest of his siblings. Alice Erikson shuffled alongside her parents, the seven year old being the apple of everyone's eye, as she hummed a tune in boredom.
The group arrived abruptly, the site of the town not fifty paces from them seeming daunting. "Here already? We should be another ten minutes or so to my reckoning." Edmund rolled his eyes at his sister. If he continues at the rate he rolls his eyes, they'll fall out of his head. "Don't try to act so smart Jemima Alexandra. Mother and Father took a short cut and we all just followed along." "He's right. This is definitely the place." He looked at her, gratified that one of his sisters wasn't arguing with him. "Thank you Fran," he said, pointedly staring at the youngest twin. "Oh! So she's Fran and I'm Jemima Alexandra?" she huffs, hands on her hips, "and you Francesca Elizabeth Erikson, what happened to twin solidarity?" She pouted. The eldest of the arguing three simply sighed and looked up to the skies and heavens as if asking God 'What did I do to deserve this?'. "Fine Jemima." "I think you mean Jem." "Fine Jem." He rolled his eyes once more, making the younger giggle and run next to her sister, linking their arms. "Honestly that was betrayal." "Was not." "Was too." "Was n-"
"They're funny.", a small voice whispered, a smile slipping on the little girl's face.
Unbeknownst to the new family who were absorbed in each other's conversations, they were being watched from within the town borders, now not twenty paces from them.
A man stood there: tall with cruel eyes and a harsh smile. He scoffed, "yes. Very amusing: children squabbling." "Mikael,", a woman's voice sounded, "they're just children and new to this environment. They were simply arguing as children do. It does not do to scold them in such a manner when we know not their names nor their reason for being here."
The Eriksons looked in the direction of the voices and saw them all standing there, listening to the woman's words.
She was a pretty lady, dressed in the traditional pale green of heretics of England. A witch. Like them.
The couple were surrounded by five children, four boys and a girl.
The eldest was maybe a year older than the eldest Erikson child with the pale eyes of his father and dark hair like the bark of an old tree.
Next to him was a boy roughly the same age as Edmund, a friendly smile on his face as brown eyes welcomed the family from behind a curtain of dark untamed hair. His hand rested on a blond boy's shoulder, a shy smile on his lips as he fiddled with a small lump of what appeared to be wood. His pale eyes glanced over the new people's faces before moving back down to study that which was in hands.
The youngest boy smiled brightly, a mischievous grin spread across his face as dark eyes twinkled at them, a short nod in greeting sent in their direction, brown hair bobbing in the mild breeze of early autumn. He appeared to be around the twins' age.
The youngest, the girl who spoke up earlier, brushed her pale hair from her eyes, a sweet smile dressing her face, her age almost aligning with Alice's.
"Apologies." He spoke up, this time directing himself towards the new family. "How about we start again, hmm?", Mikael spoke. "I am Mikael. This is my wife Esther." He gestured to the witch by his side. "And these are my children: Finn," the eldest, "Elijah," the boy the same age as Ed, "Niklaus," the fair haired boy, "Kol," the child the same age as Jem and Fran, "and Rebekah.", the girl of roughly Alice's age.
The children smiled curiously at each other while further greetings were exchanged between the adults.
Upon realising who the family were, Esther smiled sympathetically. "The travel over from the Angles must not have been easy." Esther said, hugging Mary loosely, "welcome to Mystic Falls."
The children looked at one another and waved hello, Elijah amiably striking up a conversation with Finn and Edmund as Rebekah introduced the girls to herself, Kol and Niklaus. They had a feeling they were going to be fast friends.
1001 AD
They were right. From that day on they were thick as thieves, together through thick and thin for a decade. When anyone received any beatings (more often than not Niklaus) they would comfort each other. When the youngest Mikaelson, Henrik, was born, they all helped to looked after him. When they left their childhoods behind, they all celebrated together. It was how they were and how they wished always to be.
----------
On this particular night, the Erikson twins were sound asleep in their homes, when a scream tore away the silence. They woke with a start, worried beyond compare as they left the hut and set off towards were the noise had come from.
There was already a small crowd gathered, their whispers muffling the loud sobbing coming the centre. They pushed their way through the people and stopped abruptly, the sight knocking the breath from their lungs. Niklaus. He cradled a small body that hung in his arms, still and unmoving. Henrik. A sob escaped them as they held on to each other, stumbling back and bumping into Edmund who was on patrol. The two were covered in crimson, the flames of the torches illumating the true colour of the liquid as the rest laid black on the ground in the moonlight. The Mikaelsons ran past the siblings, mere seconds after their own arrival. Their lips moved and formed words, cries for their fallen one, but Jemima could hear nothing. Silent tears streamed down her face as she held her sobbing sister, for Henrik, the sweetest little boy in all of Mystic Falls, was gone.
----------
Over the next year, Esther had become withdrawn from the loss her child, frequently working till the early hours on a mysterious project the other witches knew only mere elements of, the whole picture becoming no clearer as the days went by. Except one day, everything was perfectly clear. Who were witches to say no such an proposition? If Esther was right, and her equations made perfect sense, they could grant eternal youth along with endowments of strength and speed to whomever they wished. Esther laid down her terms: the spell would be tested on the Erikson children first to ensure it was safe (without the concent of their mother who was to be kept naive about the situation) and then it would be bestowed upon her children and husband. If things went wrong with the Eriksons then her children would remain unscathed and it could all be written off as a tragic accident - if all went well, her family would have an eternity to spend together with those they love.
Things however don't always go exactly to plan.
The spell worked and it was a success - to a degree.
All that was expected occurred and more. All magic comes with a cost and apparently theirs was to be the loss of true humanity. They could no longer walk in the sun or bask in its warmth; some herbs burnt them; a weapon made of the wood from a white oak tree could kill them - immortality it seemed did not also include invulnerability. Worst of all was that in order to survive they would have to feed of the blood of the living. The hunger they felt was indescribable. As if that was not enough, they also looked different should their inhuman tendencies get the better of them. If their blood lust overcame then for even a moment, their eyes because dark, red veins surrounding the eye, with sharp, fang-like canines protruding from their gums. Even that which they were born with they lost - Finn, Kol, Francesca, Jemima and Alice all appeared to lose their ability to do magic.
The town feared them.
They were known as abominations.
Esther turned them into monsters. She turned them into vampires.
----------
Jemima was sat on her bed, avoiding both the sun, upon Rebekah's advise, and the other villagers when a loud knock on the door interrupted her train of thought. Kol's voice rang though the door, "Jemma, I have a gift for you which you will only get once you open this door." She said nothing, only rolled her eyes at his words, thinking back to the last time he had a 'gift'. He bribed her with a sugar sweet only to sling her over his shoulder and throw her in the lake. "Look," he sighed. "You and I both know I can come in whenever I want but, being the benevolent person I am, I will not. Please just open the door." She had kept quiet for long enough. "Why should I? Because you have a gift? The last gift I was given took my humanity from me - from us. We can no longer do magic or have children or walk in the sun or-" He walked in, cutting her off by hugging her tight."Some things are easier to fix than others." They broke from their embrace. "Now," he said, wiping away her tears, "I wasn't lying when I said I had a gift." He produced a ring, set with a sparkling blue stone engraved with the Erikson family crest. "Our rivalry to the sun was fixed by a simple daylight ring - a ring fit with an enchanted stone, the enchantment an adaptation of werewolves' moonlight ring spells." He explained, gently lifting her right hand and slipping the ring onto her finger. "There we go. Fits like a glove." He smiled and pat her hand. "As for the magic - I can't change much on that but maybe you can; you always were different." "You mean wrong." "I mean different." "All I could do was steal magic - I never had any of my own, not truly." A fact she was bitterly reminded of every time she attended her magic classes. "Well therefore you can't lost what you never had and your siphoning is a skill so try it on me. We were reborn by magic so it should work-" Kol babbled on about the details as he did when I came to magic, not noticing her other hand resting upon his. She closed her eyes and took a short breath, the two of them gasping in shock as she slowly siphoned off some of his magic. She lifted her hand into the air and breathed out a quiet spell. All of a sudden a small spark linked at her palm, growing in size and brightness till a ball of fire hovered in the air, its flames dancing in the air before slowly blinking out.
They sat in silence for a moment, in shock of everything. "My brilliant paradox." He smiled but his expression quickly became grave and fearful. "Look we don't have much time now. Father found out Mother had an affair with a werewolf and forced Mother to curse Nik with a suppression of his werewolf side before he killed her. We believe Mikael wishes to kill us too so we are running away from here; to where? - even we don't know. Nik has gone to give Fran her ring and Rebekah to Ed and Elijah to Alice. After saying our goodbyes we are to find Finn and leave for good." "You're all leaving us?" Kol looked at her as if she was insane. "My mother is dead, my father murdered her and is now trying to kill us and that was all that you got? That we're leaving? Woman you need to get your priorities sorted out." he stated, shaking his head at her. Tears sprung to her eyes as she wrung her wrists. "You're my best friend you numbskull, even closer to me than Rebekah believe it or not and I will always be upset when you leave us.", she explained, pulling the boy into a hug, "will you ever return?" "Maybe one day we will however I must leave soon my dear paradox but remember that we'll find you all again someday."
They sat in silence in each other's embrace, tense as they listened for the other Mikaelsons, stealing as much time as they could before the friends would be torn apart.
"Are they really doing a bloody sibling pact without two of their siblings-?" Kol muttered humorously, his eyes however tired and hurt. "Is that Eli?" Jem mumbled back, trying to discern whose voice it was. "With Niklaus and Rebekah," he confirmed sitting up properly. "I can hear them calling for me: I've got to go now. Goodbye Jemmie." he said, kissing her forehead before leaving her home and Mystic Fall with the rest of her family for around a millennium.

@flakmaniak
Timmy Turner and Finn aren’t from ensemble casts though, right? I mean, there are recurring other characters, but they’re The Main Character, with one or two nonhuman sidekicks along for the ride.
Well, yes, but that’s kind of my point, actually.
Maybe I’ll just try writing out that essay...
Early on in the run of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, series creator Lauren Faust wrote out a short article for Ms. Magazine laying out her goals and intentions for the show. I think it’s a very interesting article, so much that I kind of want to quote the whole thing, but one thing Faust said that really stuck with me was,
There are lots of different ways to be a girl. You can be sweet and shy, or bold and physical. You can be silly and friendly, or reserved and studious. You can be strong and hard working, or artistic and beautiful.
I think the show is quite successful at that, depicting many different kinds of people, er, pastel ponies, with different strengths, weaknesses, and interests without denigrating any of them.
Faust also talks about being mostly completely alienated by the girls shows of her youth, which is interesting to me because I was extremely into at least a couple of girls shows. As a little boy, I was obsessed with the My Little Pony cartoon, and then, later, Sailor Moon.
Around the late 70s and early 80s, kids shows in the US kind of bifurcated, with shows becoming very explicitly “for girls” and “for boys”. This was especially true during the 80s, and this division wasn’t just about whether you had angular, primary color robots or soft pastel horses, the characters and story structures were very different as well.
I liked the boys shows, but I also liked some of the girls shows, because they addressed feelings and ideas I had that just weren’t going to be addressed in the boys shows. I especially liked the original My Little Pony series.
Now, the 80s version of My Little Pony has a lot of flaws. Particularly, the animation is terrible even by the standards of the 80s and the voice acting can be grating. But rewatching it, I still see what I liked as a kid, which was that it paid a lot of attention to motives and feelings. Like, here are some of the motivations for villains in the show:
I remember when my villainous boss used to be nice, so maybe if I stay with her I can keep her from causing too much trouble and help her go back to how she was.
I was kidnapped by a weird monster and he’s threatened to hurt my loved ones if I don’t do his evil bidding.
I made a deal for fame and fortune with a genie and now I know he eats souls but I’m afraid if I reject him I’ll go back to being poor.\
Our Queen stole a magic rock to revitalize our frozen country, and even though she’s overbearing I have to do right by my country.
These are fairly complex motivations for a kids show, especially when you compare them to, say, Transformers or Ninja Turtles. Shredder or Megatron are just bad because they’re bad, and so are most of their minions. Even if you have somebody like, I don’t know, Jetfire, the story there is that he discovers that his old friend Starscream is bad, at which point neither character has any further compunctions about blasting his old friend with laser guns.
Meanwhile, villains in My Little Pony would be conflicted, have divided loyalties, and be genuinely unsure what the right thing to do was. Even as a very small child, I thought that was more interesting and more honest then other shows were being.
Later, I had many of the same feelings about Sailor Moon. Hell, I still do. Even in the bowdlerized American version, I could still relate to Ami wondering if being a nerd meant she wasn’t properly into the things girls are “supposed” to be into and Usagi’s complete loathing of schoolwork and studies.
Even though these shows weren’t “for” me I really loved them, because the shows that were “for” me, the boys shows, never really expressed the kinds of ideas I’m talking about here. Like, especially during the early nineties, the answer to the question, “Does being a quiet, studious nerd make me less of a boy?” was, “Yes.”
I actually remember, as a child, constantly wishing I had been born a girl, not because I had some inner girl nature, but because girls (or so it seemed from outside) were allowed to be quiet, to be studious, to talk about feelings and to like predictability and calm. The idea of a boy wanting those things was largely foreign.
So... put a pin in that.
Okay, I want to describe a young boy to you.
He’s energetic, but a bit scatterbrained. He isn’t bookish at all; trying to sit still for long periods of time makes him antsy, and he’d rather be out in the world doing physical things than reading or thinking. In fact, he tends to act without thinking things through, and this gets him in trouble.
Despite being energetic and physical, he isn’t really into sports; he chafes under authority so teamwork isn’t always his strong suit, even though he cares deeply about his friends.
I would argue that I’ve just described pretty much every adolsecent male protagonist of every cartoon released over the last 15 years or so. Aang. Danny Phantom. Timmy Turner. Ben 10. Finn from Adventure Time. I’m  sure more will come to mind later.
This character shows up again and again in boys cartoons, and he’s almost always depicted as the default, with other characters understood through their relationship to this default boy.
Okay, I’m going to get into representation politics, and specifically I’m about to criticize Adventure Time, so I think a disclaimer is in order. One of the problems with talking about representation is that you end up criticizing broad patterns, but the same people aren’t in charge of the whole media landscape, and any single instance of the pattern is probably actually extremely defensible.
So. Okay. I haven’t seen all of Adventure Time, but I’ve seen the first couple of seasons, and they are very well written, and I think Finn in particular is a very well observed character who is very true to life, and in order to change what I’m going to complain about you’d have to rework the show from the ground up. So it’s not that this is a terrible decision, but...
Okay, something that bothers me about early Adventure Time is that Princess Bubblegum is a science nerd only because Finn isn’t. Princess Bubblegum kind of represents, to Finn, the mysteries of adulthood and sexuality. She’s part of this mysterious world of women and adulthood that Finn longs for but hasn’t grown up enough, or had enough experience with, to really understand.
And so to hammer that home her personality and life are also full of things that Finn can’t understand... Like sitting still, and doing meticulous, complex experiments and researching in books.
It’s not that the show denigrates this, not at all, it’s just that it’s positioned as incomprehensible and distant from the audience stand-in character. The Boy doesn’t like to sit still and study, he likes to go on dangerous, physical adventures! And he certainly couldn’t ever prefer to sit still and study over going out and having a physical adventure. Doing that would be incomprehensible.
She’s well-written and I’m sure lots of kids relate to her, but fundamentally her nerdiness is portrayed as foreignness.
A lot of the shows I mentioned above aren’t even really ensembles, but those that kind of are, e.g. Avatar: The Last Airbender, or Ben 10 give The Boy special powers that differentiate him from the rest of the cast.
Go back to the early episodes of My Little Pony and Twilight Sparkle is kind of the viewpoint character; the framing device of the early episodes is letters she writes, but she doesn’t really have, like, one special power that the others don’t, and structurally she’s a tertiary character in a lot of episodes.
Contrast that to Aang, who is central to the story of Avatar, the Last Airbender. Like... you can have episodes that aren’t really about him but he has a special, important power that no other character does or can have, and the fate of the whole plot rests on his shoulders. Like, if the Avatar dies the natural order is upended and the Fire Nation almost certainly wins; you could kill off any other supporting cast member and then replace them without completely upending the world.
This is not to say that any of the shows I have called out are bad or harmful, but, to go way back, I remember being genuinely upset as a child not to see boy characters who had the feelings and struggles I did, and if anything, I think the situation might be slightly worse than when I was a kid. Go back to that Lauren Faust quote up there. How many cartoons feature a boy who is “Reserved and Studious”? Dexter’s Lab... Maybe Invader Zim... How many with a boy that is “Sweet and Shy”? Have you ever seen one about a boy who is “Artistic and beautiful?”
What about a show with all those boys portrayed as friends and equals, rather than one for you to relate to and a bunch of sidekicks and side characters?
Like, one of the only male, American cartoon characters who has ever made me go, “Yeah, that’s what it was like for me as a kid” is fucking Butters from South Park.
