No, no. I don’t think we understand just how fucked up the straw hats backstories are. Like, we see Zoros & go “oh, he just lost a friend lmao” in the anime. But the live action is really gonna put into perspective just how traumatizing this could be, especially since they’re children

What the hound had not intervened, and the mountain had killed Loras Tyrell at the Hand's tourney?
i thought i’d answer this one quick off the cuff but then i was thinking about everything gregor affects and started spiraling lmao. bc for a minor, not very deep character, this man is instrumental in the mess of the riverlands, in beric’s undead journey, in tyrion’s downfall, AND in the dornish plot.
first you’ve got the fallout of killing loras bc - Mace and Renly are coming for that fuckers HEAD and Ned is gonna have a political crisis on his hands .2 seconds after showing up (besides the other 20 big ones). Considering Mace’s heir was permanently disabled by a tourney before and nothing happened to Oberyn (bc it wasn't Oberyn's fault, it was Mace's, and everyone knew it including Willas, while this one would definitely be fully on Gregor), Mace is gonna PUSH that his shining glory of a knight Loras is avenged in some way. While Robert might not want to step on his wife’s toes - and more specifically the toes of her powerful father - if Renly is pushing for a punishment for Gregor, and Mace starts making threats about it as well, Robert has a pretty good reason to throw Gregor to the wolves (or well, the wolf lol because I'm sure Ned is gonna be pissed off too). Even if Robert doesn’t want to execute Gregor, Gregor is probably in the cells by the time the rest of the plot happens, which means the Riverlands looks WILDLY different bc Gregor and his gang aren’t raping and reaving after Cat steals away with Tyrion, only Amory is, which tbf IS bad enough on its own to get Ned to send Beric, Thoros, Harwin, and the rest but that might also mean the Brotherhood is luckier in stopping some of the Lannister looting going on in the Riverlands. That definitely impacts the war effort, don't ask me how, beyond "maybe things look better in the Riverlands but maybe not."
There's also the fact that if Tywin isn't willing to give up Loras' killer, does Mace even decide to throw his lot in with the Lannisters after Renly is killed? Does he go for the Starks, maybe fancying himself as King of the Reach or tempting Robb with a "give up that Frey girl for my daughter and I'll fund your whole kingdom" offer? Does he go to Stannis, maybe offering Willas up for Shireen (she's only 3 years younger than Sansa, and marriages with bigger age gaps have happened)? Mace is certainly ambitious enough to overlook massive logistical problems (see: not even suspecting that Garlan and Olenna are trying to kill Joffrey to protect Loras from pulling a Jaime to defend Margaery when Joffrey inevitably loses his temper with her) but Loras is his pride and joy and I do wonder if cozying up with Loras' killer is too much to overlook for him.
But beyond "can Ned and Mace get this dude WHACKED without causing yet another political crisis" I would say Gregor being potentially executed or sent to the Wall (which, he's not even gonna make it to the Wall bc Yoren doesn't make it and he might recognize Arya anyway which completely fucks up her storyline) is gonna be a big issue for Dorne. For one, there’s no easy ish target for Oberyn's rage when he shows up in asos because both Amory and Gregor are dead, which only leaves the man who gave the order as an outlet for his anger. That is a political CRISIS. There's also no one to fight against Tyrion in the trial that is any sort of match for Oberyn - like we think Boros Blount is gonna defeat him? We think Meryn Trant is gonna take on The Viper? Fucking Osmund Kettleback? I don't think so.
AND THEN without Ser Robert Strong - well, not to say Cersei is fucked because Qyburn I'm sure would be more than happy to re-animate anyone's corpse but it certainly throws a wrench in her trial.
Anyways, what's that trope, Boss Disguised As Mook or something? That's Gregor. He's not the final boss but he's a boss battle you don't fully expect and he winds up impacting the plot a lot more than I expected.

the tcm gameplay discourse is getting sooo toxic and imo people are just blatantly wanting nerfs and changes due to (what i think) is skill issue. im really hoping the devs weave through the complaints that are obviously wanting to make it victim/family sided and get easy wins.
while i'm on the topic, here are things i think they should change for both family and victim gameplay:
instead of calling for nerfs,,, CALL FOR BUFFS. sonny and sissy are in desperate need of buffing. i think sonny should have more default attribute points into stealth, as his ability and perks encourage that gameplay, but his low toughness have players worried he will be one shotted. and sissy should have more damage to her poision, or at least have rubber legs in the ability tree instead of as a perk. i loved the outcry to rebuff johnny but i wish sonny and sissy got the same attention, instead of people accepting their weakness and refusing to play them/dodge lobbies if they have been picked.
speaking of stealth, there still needs to be more encouragement on putting points into it. there is the meta that stealth is useless. i think if they release a character that is highly good in stealth, it will show players how beneficial it can be. i think youtuber gameplay can solve this more than the devs, creating an off-meta build where you're maxed in stealth, cut down bone chimes, use perks like overlooked, sanguine shadow, etc. since they're like "gaming influencers" it might encourage people to try new builds.
for family, when they give blood to grandpa, i think it should only take the required amount instead of all your blood. grandpa is a greedy lil man and when you're a few blood off of max lvl, he takes all the blood and you're left with nothing when the victim stabs grandpa. it will be a good opponent for the meta play of stabbing grandpa constantly for points. and if it only takes the required amount, taking you a lvl up but at 0, then it still means u need a full blood vial to lvl him up again; so it's not totally OP.
there is also the bugs and glitches that need fixing also. and i'm in agreement with everyone about the lobbies. but yknow what? i think people just need to change their attitudes. i have not been able to max out sissy because people will lobby dodge when they see her or i will have someone blatantly shout at me on comms to change character. whereas with victims, when my connie was still level 1, players wouldn't moan or make me change in fear that i'm a noob. it's happened less recently because the lobbies are so long, people just accept there is a full team and cba leaving and waiting another 30 mins for a game. i hope the devs prioritise the lobbies bc it's causing burn out and it's just torture to go through. and with additional buffs for some characters, people might not be as bitter when you play them.
and danny? maybe he is too OP, but i think he should stay somewhat OP as he is a paid character. if they nerfed him like they did johnny, they're basically not advertising why you should buy him in the first place, so it's shitty for the people who paid. plus, his ability is a great opponant to the pressure valve change. i think his instant study shouldn't be right away instant, but instead have you in a 1-3 second animation. and for nancy, her trap setup should be the same duration as hitchhikers, but other than that i don't think she needs a nerf. victims can combat her clear vision senses, spinning the camera, looking into a shadow/corner, etc. if the nancy is not on comms, then you're basically in the clear anyways. and with people complaining about pins and needles, you're basically taking a gamble with that perk, so it's not always OP. i wish that nancy was more of a counterpart to danny, but a chaser works best to keep the pressure on him. plus i love the gameplay where you see someone playing a character and you're like "they're the prime target, get them out asap" or "they cause more damage, i need to stay away from them". that's what makes it fun!!

OKAY episode 2!! holiday shenanigans and work kept me from watching it till now but here we go!
---
- We got the "you drool when you sleep" (in the wrong spot but still), I can rest easy
- Annabeth just standing around spookily instead of sitting down or feeding Percy nectar / ambrosia is really funny to me
-  about 80% sure they had Percy notice the Minotaur horn right away for time issues, but I really liked the slow build up to Percy accepting it all happened, Grover being patient with him and then sighing and giving him the shoe box with the horn.
- Definitely different from the book, Grover apologizing and all. But it's consistent with what the show did so far.
- Lowkey sad we're not getting a shot of Percy looking out at how beautiful the day/camp is, then down at the horn, then being miserable. Not a huge deal, it was just always a scene that stuck with me as a kid, I was hoping it would be included here. Walker would CRUSH it I know!
- I knew from the trailers that CHB is basically all inside a forest afaik, but it's still weird not to have the Big House overlooking the valley, being able to see everything. Especially since they kept Thalia's pine on a hill.
- Percy's annoyance with mr D is on point but it would hit a lot harder if we had seen Smelly Gabe be a drunkard and Percy somehow realizing Mr D likes to drink too -- his initial defensiveness and dislike for him was rooted in his trauma from his stepdad. It still works cause we know he doesnt like bullies thanks to Nancy, but I miss that
- lmao mr Dr just letting Percy and Grover talk it out
- The fakeout with calling Percy son made me ugly snort but I kinda miss how utterly bored he is in the books
- THAT SAID. the sarcastic tone, dismissive behavior, etc, DO remind me of this version of Gabe, so I do like Percy getting mad at him here!! I retract my earlier statement, it's subtle but if you pay attention you might tie mr D's behavior to Percy's stepdad. Still wish Percy looked more /angry/ about it tho.
- again with the happy/funny music tho, am I supposed to be laughing that Percy's miserable?
- hang on I did not follow the marketing all that much but WHY can NO adaptation get that Chiron's horse half is white lmao, is it an animation thing? I DONT KNOW.
- I do like how they used the wine bottle thing at the end to explain the demigods being able do whatever they want, so between that and getting show!Gabe vibes from mr D I quite like this
- Except for one tiny thing: where's Annabeth?
- Mr D literally said Grover succeeded they are SO CUTTING THE COUNCIL THING I AM SO MAD
-  ohHHHHh okay NEVERMIND we DO have open spaces, this place looks awesome!! Surprisingly similar to how I imagined CHB except I always saw the cabins not being in the forest, just close to it. I do love how they look tho, I can definitely get used to this. Very cozy somehow.
-  I will say this version of Chiron is growing on me after being a little iffy on him in ep 1!
- Luke has a slightly less cool kid, sunny disposition when we meet him but the entire scene at Hermes' cabin was Very Nice! I just miss Annabeth's blushing and stammering around Luke here
- No seriously where is my daughter have you seen her
- Mr D and Chiron playing, presumably, pinochle made me smile. Also the tiger print shirt lol
- hang on HANG ON we have a WHOLE SCENE with the Council of Cloven Elders that has NOTHING to do with Grover's searcher's license?
- I loved the scene with the dryad hinting at Grover being an anxious bean tho, finally some signs of that
- I am? So confused about this. I guess they changed Grover so beyond recognition that they have to give him some unnecessary drama/arc about lying to Percy? Why reveal that Hades has Sally right now - why not let it be a surprise when Percy gets to the Underworld? Why not let Percy agree to the quest, supposedly bc of his father, and later down the line let him confess he's only doing it to try and get Sally back like he does in the book? Why make Grover AND Chiron hide this from him? Unlike everything else, I don't understand the reason for these changes.
- Is... Is it Luke who tells Percy about the nightmares? I could have sworn it was Annabeth - she's definitely the one who talks about the AHDH and dyslexia. WHY are they giving Annabeth's lines to everyone else? I can see this being to show Luke and Percy bonding but at what cost?? WHERE IS SHE.
- ...  We aren't getting the training scene with best-swordsman-in-centuries Luke and the disarming maneuver that's gonna come back in the final fight are we.
- Clarisse sadly does not have the same vibes as the book. Also she looks so much older than Percy? Isnt she just 14?
- Interesting that they're setting up Percy catching the gods' attention - at least his dad's rn. If this doesnt lead into the "I'm impertinent" thing with Medusa's head I'll be sad.
- ps I LOVE that Luke is all about glory to be admired and looked up to, and Percy Does Not Care about it at all lol. Delightful way of showing that!
- Okay the first real laugh this got out of me was Percy being disgusting at archery. What an adorable bean I LOVE him
- I assume that's not Beckendorf but I really wish it was him lmao. Also love Luke looking out for Percy here
- Who IS this kid who keeps hanging around Luke? ... Is it Chris Rodriguez? Oh man pls let it be Chris
- UPDATE I CHECKED THE SUBTITLES (bc I couldnt understand which god's name was that) AND IT IS CHRIS I LOVE THIS SO MUCH FAM
- is he- oh my god the burning of the jellybeans to "pray" to his mom OKAY THIS IS AMAZING 10/10 I WEPT I'm officially adding this to the events of the books when I re-read it -- I hope we get more scenes like this!!
- goddddd its such a CLEVER way of telling the audience that Percy falls in love with this place fast, even tho it hurts that the "friends" he's talking about arent gonna stay around
- Interesting change to not have Percy seek out his Dad's approval so much-- I dont mind it, bc I like how they're leaning into how much he loves Sally -- but I wish they hadn't done *away* with it completely, the way they seem to have. Keep both!
- Idk, this dyslexic, ADHD kid who's always been told he's the problem struggling with believing he was too broken to keep his father around, only to later be told he IS his father's son and that Poseidon is proud of him regardless of what the world would tell him... That felt special to me. I hope the workaround this is to have Annabeth call him out on it as she does later down the book, when he sends Medusa's head to Olympus.
- SUCH a good scene tho
- I dont mind that they did this scene at night but I also liked the visual of Clarisse just being Clarisse and dragging Percy to the bathroom in broad daylight lmao. This flows better with the show's pacing tho
- Okay but like why not let Clarisse try to shove Percy's head in the toilet you know she'd be having a BLAST
- Percy looks more scared than angry, he's lacking the whole "they will NOT put my head in there. they WONT" thing. People keep saying Percy is appropriately angry in the show and I'm like THIS is angry?? You sweet summer children
- awwww no "you're dead, punk, totally dead?"- she just runs? How very un-Clarisse of her. Also, no Annabeth around to say she wants him on her capture the flag team?
- Will I have to start putting up missing person poste- NEVERMIND SHE'S HERE FINALLY LOOK AT HER
- the admission of stalking is HILARIOUS but I wish they kept her intro to earlier in the episode, you miss out on a lot of Annabeth's less "cool" moments like stammering around Luke (and I always loved that Percy was immediately aware of it and she glared at him, it was so indicative of their eventual dynamic), biting her nails/barely looking when Clarisse is bullying Percy and getting all wet with toilet-water but taking it like a champ with the capture the flag comment.
- I wonder if the "litter sister" comment is gonna hold up. Even if Luke never develops feelings for Annabeth eventually (which I would prefer, it always felt forced on his side), Percy's jealousy of him and Annabeth's crush on him are important.
- On one hand: I like they're setting up Luke, Thalia and Annabeth this early on. On the other, much like the Minotaur fight, you miss out on a lot of Percy figuring the puzzle pieces out on his own. He keeps getting exposition dumped on, especially with THIS memory in particular! Considering Rick is writing for this, and I feel his HOO series had a lot of the same issues, it's a bit sad to see that bleed into the original series. There was a lot less nuance in the sequels, and we keep consistently seeing the same here.
- But you DO show-dont-tell the conch horn? HAH :'D
- I REALLY wanted Percy to be wearing armor that was a size too big for him I really did
- nOOOOOOo they're cutting Annabeth's blushing and stammering PLEASE don't get rid of her crush on Luke it's IMPORTANT. Let it be one-sided!!! it's okay!!!
- Like I said earlier - they sanitized Annabeth's less "cool" moments, she feels too in control here. I want to see her be a 12yo!
- I just realized- no hounding him about the Solstice either. Did Mrs Dodds even say anything about "it" being stolen? The buildup to the master bolt's theft was SO good. Now she's just generally interested in him, not actively hunting for her quest. We're TOLD Annabeth is obsessed with her quest but we don't SEE how frazzled she is about it, how much she's seeking it.
- Okay, fine. Distracting me with the little fixing of his armor. It's lowkey working and they BETTER link back to this in BOTL or I WILL scream.
- The cut away to Percy flossing got a snicker out of me, tho my Percy will always and forever be a millenial. Also I can imagine Annabeth's face while she looks away from him peeing in the woods lmao
- Bonus: it shows Percy whistling! It better come back with Blackjack in the future!
- No growling from the hellhound?
- Why is daughter-of-the-god-of-war Clarisse taking her helmet off?
- I miss Percy at least trying to defend himself, taking a beating including from the electric spear, and only then telling them where the flag is. He would NOT volunteer the information right away just bc he's surrounded!
- Did they EXPLAIN why Clarisse thinks Percy is a fraud? I don't get it. Why not just leave it to the good ol' "she's mad he pulled a crazy feat like killing the Minotaur, one-upping her without even knowing", instead of having her doubt that he did it? In the book she was more like "yea right like THIS wimp is a Big Tree kid material, like he actually did it" - which felt more just mean of her than genuinely not believing him
- Also, why have Percy run from them- why not set this at the creek that marks the border between territories? Why have Percy run all the way to the canoe lake? Why do ALL OF THAT and not even show him stepping on the water and getting reinvigorated by it? This also takes away from Annabeth having to spy on him-- she's meant to connect the dots here, it takes away from her too
- I genuinely LOVE that they kept Percy catching Clarisse's spear on the edge of his shield, but the way he breaks it is almost on accident. I'm almost offended, this was a HUGE win for Percy and set up how he used the water to defeat her father later own. The choreography grows to be neat, but at the cost of all that made this fight special. Same with the Minotaur and Mrs Dodds. Is this going to be a pattern??
- For how old Clarisse looked, I love how YOUNG she suddenly looks when she screams-- that was a FANTASTIC bit of acting by whoever has been cast as her.
- The flag did not turn blue I am SO SAD
- More importantly: same with Clarisse not realizing it was all a set up-- they stripped Annabeth of THAT bit of smarts too. In the book she's counting on Clarisse being blinded by her need for revenge, she puts Percy right at the border where she can see him alone, and Annabeth knows he'll distract her enough to let her team win just as it helps her figure it out if Percy's the one. But in the show Percy is tucked away in the middle of nowhere and Clarisse straight up says she doesn't care about winning, which means Annabeth's "killer strategy" that Luke is so confident on actually had nothing to do with him- she was just looking out for her own desire to get a quest. I Do Not Like this change at all.
- I wanted to see Annabeth for so long and yet she feels so distant and aloof here, it's so strange. Annabeth is rational but deeply emotional... This reminds me of what the later series did with her, stripping her of a lot of that so she can be the cool leader of the 7 or whatever (the only exception being HoH really) and I REALLY hope they arent doing the same here.
- OhhhhhHHHhhh no I don't. I DON'T like that she pushes Percy into the lake. Not for the books and not for how the show has been handling Percy's character. I think I'll elaborate it in a different post here but. Yea no. This really bothers me.
- Cant believe I'm gonna say this but the movie did the claiming scene better.
- Also they removed the hellhound like WHERE ARE THE STAKES HERE
- I liked Percy's stammering of "I dont know"- how his instinct is to apologize, but... The changed vibes of the claiming scene... the triumphant music, no bowing, Chiron's speech being changed... This was a "the very foundations of your world have been shaken, AGAIN". Annabeth is not meant to be smiling or in control, she's almost speechless. Even Clarisse is meant to be bowing.
- The music and Annabeth's reaction is treating this as a victory when it's not. It's just profound shock, awe and terror at once. Just by people's reactions, you know what a big deal being a Big Three kid is. This is not it, fam.
- "claimed by poseidon" and 5 words later "son of poseidon" is writing my teacher would dock points out of
- ... the episode doesn't end here? The episode should have ended here.
- They ARE EXPOSITION DUMPING HIM WITH NO BUILD UP I KNEW THEY WOULD DO THIS AND I HATE IT. IM SO MAD WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS RICHARD.
- Percy's speech about Sally is great but is undercut by mr D *actually* yelling at him like? Mr D would never, EVER do that. He doesnt really feel like a god here, he'd just show a tad of his divine power and Percy would shut the heck up. Also, Percy accepts the quest because he brought the wrath of Zeus to camp - to innocent campers, and to innocent mortals. Why is he refusing it here? What are you doing to my son? What kind of BS writing is this???
- Grover is actively disobeying a DIRECT order from his primary god (alongside Pan, who hasnt been mentioned at all). What is going on. Again why are we revealing this now. Why are we exposition dumping AGAIN. Why are we taking PERCY'S motivation and spelling it out IN THE FACE of the camp directors, and rubbing our faces on it like its mud?
- This is blood of olympus level writing I went from the SUCH a high to being fuming. delightful.
- OH MY GOD THEY CUT ANNABETH FROM A SCENE AGAIN. WHAT THE F-CK.
-----
So, I went from genuinely enjoying this episode better even with the changes to being absolutely livid at some of said changes.
Looks like this is gonna be a high highs and low lows kind of story. Well, I'll be back for episode 3 when it releases.

is ko an only child and if not, how is his relationship to his siblings? how does his living space & his working space look like? chaotic? organized? is he still in love with chiyo or has that completely faded? how does he dress like? what are his thoughts on shonen anime & manga? does he enjoy sailor moon & who is his favorite sailor senshi? sorry i have so many questions aksbjsjs ❤️ answer as much or as little as u want ❤️
it's loving kojirou hours | @vonerde very kindly asks about ko!!
Tumblr media
is ko an only child and if not, how is his relationship to his siblings?
i'm so glad you asked about siblings bc for whatever reason, my brain always defaults to only children if i'm not making sibling oc's asdfg he's an older brother to one miss anju, who is seven years younger than him! they're really close bc ko looked after her a lot while their mom kept busy with work; he was typically the one making her lunch, helping her with homework, and even the one showing up to award ceremonies/special events ( and he absolutely skipped school or his own stuff to attend ). ko isn't perfect, but anju, particularly now that she's older, admires how much he stepped in to not only help their mom but to make sure that anju never felt overlooked, too. she knows that she can come to him with anything, and he's gonna drop everything to be there for her :' )
how does his living space & his working space look like? chaotic? organized?
it's very neat and organized! the complete opposite of chiyo's asdfg ko is very big on things having their place and making sure to keep it that way. having a disorganized space makes it difficult for him to concentrate bc it just feels cluttered and crowded, and you can typically tell if he's going through something bc that's the only time his home and work area will get messy. the more stressed and/or busy he gets, the more the space around him reflects that. i also wanna say!! ko probably appreciates minimalism and simple color palettes... or just plain ol' black and white :' ) it's just easier to match furniture and whatnot if it's all varying shades of black, grey, and white! pls make him put some color in his apartment
is he still in love with chiyo or has that completely faded?
ASDFG ASKING THE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS!! AND WELL!! he thinks his feelings have completely faded :' ) until he meets chiyo again :' ) gradually, he realizes that it's really easy to fall right back into those feelings bc while they've grown older and changed, they still click so well. he can see himself dating her again, and maybe this time things could actually work, but ko can tell that chiyo still needs time. he can't hit her with " i still have feelings for you, " and expect her to take it well, not after finding out that she hasn't dated since they broke up. he's aware that she likely has a lot of fear surrounding love and vulnerability even now. ko is content to be her friend for now, though. he enjoys a good slow burn anyway <3 though, this isn't to say he's emotionally unavailable for anyone else who comes along! honestly, i think getting over chiyo and letting go of those feelings would be a fun plot point to explore, but that all depends on my writing partner's comfort level/interest. and ofc there's always the option of a lil polyship!! bc i can see ko being okay with it and actually contemplating the idea first bc he'd realize what's going on before the others most likely. i see ko as being very emotionally intelligent and confident, so he's probably the one pushing the other two to understand their feelings before finally going, " how do y'all feel about just? dating each other? all (x) of us? "
how does he dress like?
i think he keeps a very casual style most of the time, opting for graphic t-shirts and hoodies, comfy jeans, chunky sneakers, and the occasional dad hat. like chiyo, he wears dressier clothing only for work and special occasions, and when he does, he once again tends to gravitate towards greys and blacks with certain other dark colors thrown in. he'll probably avoid wearing ties as much as possible bc he always feels like he's being choked. generally doesn't accessorize very much, but you'll catch him with a ring or two on his fingers and a simple chain bracelet that anju gave him for his 25th birthday.
what are his thoughts on shonen anime & manga?
he enjoys them! but he tends to drop them for long stretches before picking them back up bc they tend to be so long, and he catches up with the released chapters pretty quickly ( though, there are shoujo manga that he does this with, too ). ko also tends to be kind of critical with how authors handle their characters and the relationships, though once again!! that's something he'll do with all manga and anime. i think he tends to kinda? skip over battle scenes or get tldr's from his friends bc he gets bored with those. he's almost always reading a manga for the lore and for the characters and the desire to see how they grow and whatnot, so reading the same battle scene for however many chapters is just :' ) not it for him :' ) even watching the anime gets tedious if the fight extends over more than two episodes. so the bottom line!! is he enjoys and appreciates shonen series, but they're not 100% his cup of tea.
does he enjoy sailor moon & who is his favorite sailor senshi?
he does!! tbh magical girl series in general somehow get a pass for battle scenes, but if i'm remembering right?? sailor moon's fights don't typically last for a ton of episodes! but anyway!! he grew up watching sailor moon with his mom and then his little sister, so it's got a special place in his heart :' ) his favorite sailor senshi is miss rei/sailor mars!! he tends to gravitate towards the more " fiery " characters in a series, and rei is definitely the cause of that. he also adores usagi herself bc she's such a goofball and secretly ships her and rei together!

wait this is better .. i feel like i got this right finally with how i want it (?) this feels like putting a puzzle together
Tumblr media
gigantic wall of text warning rambling about every character
im not really sure who the best character is.. so the S tier isn't strictly ordered. Volga, Cia, and Link (Spinner) are extremely well-rounded and amazing at handling any scenario imo.. they all have great options 1v1 vs Named Officers (fast attacks, un-blockables, guard-breaks, combos / projectiles). they're good at fighting multiple officers simultaneously, have big AoEs for getting lots of KOs, and are amazing vs Giant Bosses
Ganondorf (Greatswords) and Young Link aren't as well-rounded and they have more notable weaknesses, but they have absurd strengths that go beyond anything that Volga/Cia/Link have.. i think Ganondorf's C1 is the best move in the game bc it's basically a Special-Attack that you can charge manually (dodge-cancel C4 twice). it's invincible, unblockable, has a big AoE and is twice as powerful as an average Special-Attack. his C1 easily makes him the best character at fighting multiple officers simultaneously bc he really doesn't care about anything. he doesn't have the best combos/juggling, but it doesn't matter since he has such a strong & unblockable attack. he can one-cycle Giant Bosses with C5 with Hasty Attacks
i think Young Link is slightly overrated by most ppl (?).. he's easily the strongest character during Focus Spirit, but i think his base form is somewhere in B-C Tier. there's a lot of situations where you won't be in Focus Spirit depending on the level / scenario and will be playing Young Link in his regular form.. his regular form is good at 1v1 combat, but has poor range / movement on his regular-attacks which can cause him to get overwhelmed when fighting multiple officers, and he's just okay at getting KOs. he's absurdly overpowered during Focus Spirit, but he relies on it to defeat Giant Bosses, fight multiple officers simultaneously, and get lots of KOs. it takes time to play his Ocarina periodically (all of the time adds up over the course of a level) which i think ppl tend to overlook. it feels sorta inefficient sometimes going through his animations / upkeeping his magic meter depending on the scenario, esp compared to other S Tier characters that can just kinda handle anything at any moment without depending on / managing a meter.
- A Tier
Twili Midna has insane strengths and would easily be S tier if she didn't depend on her C1 to fight Giant Bosses / deal damage quickly.. she has massive AoEs, her C1 / C4 / C5 / C6 are all unblockable, & she's great at fighting multiple officers simultaneousy. her damage-output is pretty low though, unless there's tons of weak enemies everywhere and you can frequently charge her C1, bc she has a lot of long animations that are inefficient for dealing damage quickly. her strengths are sorta polarizing, but she can be very mediocre vs strong officers or Giant Bosses sometimes. she's situationally overpowered but not to the same extreme as Young Link
the Master Sword is really well-rounded and great at everything. C1 is amazing for getting KOs, C3 is an extremely powerful / large AoE projectile while at full health, and he can one-cycle every Giant Boss with C4 -> Y. i think his weakest area is fighting multiple officers simultaneously, since he can't really use C2/C4 -> aerial combos without leaving himself vulnerable, and relies on using C3.. i think the Master Sword is S tier while at full health, but i find it easy to take damage esp since characters lose health offscreen while you aren't controlling them and you can't heal conveniently (compared to Age of Calamity). another reason i put the Master Sword in A Tier is because every other weapon/character was buffed in HWDE with an added secondary element and the new Heart Power skill.. so it was sorta inherently nerfed from HW1 just by every other weapon/character becoming stronger
Sheik is the best character at avoiding damage bc of Serenade of Water, and she is the easiest character to A-Rank damage requirements with. Bolero of Fire is unblockable and deals a huge burst of damage, so she's very strong 1v1 and vs Giant Bosses. her weakest areas are getting KOs and fighting multiple officers simultaneously, which she's just average at. she doesn't necessarily struggle to fight multiple officers at all since she's so safe, but it can be difficult to setup & land Bolero vs multiple targets, and so she can't deal damage efficiently. her damage output is poor without Bolero
Yuga is fairly well-rounded and extremely strong at 1v1 combat and fighting multiple officers simultaneously. his Sigils cause slow-down effects on any enemy within their range and the lighting strikes are unblockable and can start/extend juggles. his C5 has a slow-mo effect during startup, making it deceptively fast/safe, and it has a decently large AoE which is amazing when fighting multiple officers simultaneously. his R7 is good for getting KOs and he can one-cycle every Giant Boss with C4 with Hasty Attacks. Yuga's damage output is relatively low though, & he isn't /amazing/ at getting KOs, which keeps him from being S tier i think.. he's excellent at forcing progress with unblockable combo extenders and safely locking enemies down, but it can take awhile to kill very strong officers that have a lot of health
Wizzro greatly excels at 1v1 and destroys Giant Bosses. he can safely use attacks outside of the enemy's range and his C2 breaks guard, so he's very good at dealing with shields and forcing progress. his C1 is an infinite vs Named Officers (and it can grab multiple enemies at once, or you can slam the hand down onto another enemy to cause knock-down). he isn't amazing at getting KOs though
Skull Kid is very well-rounded, & i think he's slightly overrated by most ppl.. his C3 is outstanding for getting KOs and hitting enemies outside of their range, but his C2 is a somewhat mediocre launcher, and his C4/C5/C6 can leave him vulnerable during the animations. he can one-cycle Giant Bosses with C4 with Hasty Attacks, and his C4 can also deal heavy damage to an officer if they armor through it.
Ghirahim is extremely strong in 1v1 and does well in every other area. he has poor movement while attacking, which can leave him vulnerable when fighting multiple enemies simultaneously, but his regular-attacks and C5 all have large AoEs. Ghirahim's damage-output is very high 1v1 and he can use C2/C4 from a distance to deal with shields. with red string attached, his C3x2 is unblockable. his R2/R3/C3/C4/C5 are all decent for getting KOs, and he can one-cycle every Giant Boss with dodge-cancelled C4x2 with Hasty Attacks
Link (Horse) is very well-rounded and insanely underrated i think.. he's excellent at getting KOs with C4 and R5, and he has above-average movement speed by spamming dash-C1. he has great movement while attacking and doesn't leave himself vulnerable. his C1 breaks guard, and his dash-C1 is the fastest launcher in game, though it can be awkward to combo officers since his C5 doesn't always connect properly.. his DPS is situationally very high if you spam C1 while an enemy has armor or is against a wall. he can easily one-cycle every Giant Boss with C5 -> C1 spam
- B Tier
Toon Zelda is great at getting KOs and fighting multiple officers simultaneously. her R6 has a massive fan-shaped AoE, and she can use C1 to get KOs while moving. her C1 and C3 both break guard on the final hit. her C5 is invincible, has a slow-mo effect during startup, and has a decently large AoE infront of her, which is amazing when fighting multiple officers simultaneously. she can struggle vs Giant Bosses however, and her damage output is very average
Linkle (Crossbows) is great at getting KOs, destroys Giant Bosses, and has very high DPS vs single targets. her regular-attacks and C6 have large AoEs, and she can deal heavy damage to single targets with C2 -> strong aerial. her strong aerial is extremely powerful and destroys Giant Boss WPGs. her main issue is that her strong aerial leaves her very vulnerable, so it's difficult to use while fighting multiple officers, or while an officer has armor. her R1 is also very slow, so she sometimes gets hit before it comes out. i think that she would be easily A-Tier if her damage-output were less reliant on her strong-aerial, which leaves her vulnerable
Ravio is very well-rounded. his C3, C4, and R6 are all good for getting KOs, and he can use C1 as a combo-starter from a safe distance. he can one-cycle every Giant Boss with C4 with Hasty Attacks. his C2 has deceptive range and a very active hitbox, and his C4/C5 have decently large AoEs, which are great vs multiple officers. i put him in B-Tier because he isn't outstanding in any area, just good all-around
Toon Link (Light Sword) is comparable to Ravio in that he's very good all-around but not outstanding at anything.. his strong aerial and C6 are good for getting KOs, he can one-cycle every Giant Boss with C3 with Hasty Attacks, and he has decent combos vs Named Officers. C2 -> C3 is a fast/reliable sequence to use vs Named Officers that deals fairly good damage
Lana (Spellbook) has the fastest movement in the game with dodge/C1, destroys Giant Bosses, and has situationally high DPS. she's average at getting KOs, and she can sometimes struggle to start juggles since she lacks a reliable launcher (her C2 is a bit slow and has an awkward hitbox). her best method of dealing with shields is to use C3x3 from a distance. she can deal heavy damage to officers and Giant Bosses by spawning barriers ontop of existing barriers, and she has the strongest Special-Attack in the game which deals over 2x damage than average if lined up properly
King Daphnes is very well-rounded. his R3, C4, and C6 are great for getting KOs. he lunges himself forward during C3 and launches enemies into the air, which is a fantastic approach for starting juggles. vs Named Officers, he can combo C3 into C5, and he can one-cycle every Giant Boss with C6 with Hasty Attacks. his damage-output is just average however, and he can leave himself vulnerable while fighting multiple enemies simultaneously.. he's very vulnerable during C5, and his hurtbox becomes much larger during C4/C6 when he transforms into a boat (these attacks cannot be dodge-cancelled either).
Linkle (Boots) excels in 1v1 and vs Giant Bosses. vs Generic Officers, her C2 is an excellent launcher which you can combo into C4 to extend the juggle, and then use her aerial kicks or C6 as a finisher (her aerial kicks deal heavy damage). her C1 also breaks guard. her strong aerial has a decent AoE, so using C2 -> strong aerial is a good way of getting KOs and clearing keeps. she can easily one-cycle Giant Bosses with C4 -> aerials. her regular-attacks have poor range and movement however, which can leave her vulnerable when fighting multiple officers simultaneously.. her C6 has a huge AoE, but it can be difficult to use while surrounded by enemies
Zelda (Rapier) has has very high damage-output 1v1 and destroys Giant Bosses. her regular C5 is fast and powerful and she can quickly kill generic officers after launching them into the air with C2. she can one-cycle every Giant Boss with regular C5 or enhanced C4. her enhanced C4 is one of the strongest attacks in the game, which you can use repeatedly after breaking Giant Boss WPGs to deal massive damage before initiating the WPS. she's mediocre at getting KOs however, and very slow at clearing keeps
- C Tier
Ruto is fantastic at getting KOs and vs Giant Bosses, and she situationally has very high DPS. her C1 is a very strong projectile with a huge AoE, which can she can use from a safe distance to deal heavy damage to officers. her R6 is extremely powerful and decimates Giant Boss WPGs, and she can use it repeatedly during Focus Spirit to quickly kill Named Officers. however, her regular-attacks have very poor range/movement, and she is completely stationary while using C1. nearly all of her attacks leave her vulnerable and she frequently needs to reposition to avoid taking damage.
Lana (Summoning Gate) is difficult to rank .. she has some of the strongest attacks in the game, but many of her attacks leave her vulnerable. her regular-attacks have very poor range/movement, and all of her strong-attacks have slow startup. her C1 is excellent for quickly putting active hitboxes on the screen, albeit with random results. her enhanced C3 is very slow to setup, but extremely powerful and has a large AoE. a good strategy is to use her Special-Attack right after the summons the 2nd Manhandla head to ensure that the attack connects. her enhanced C4 has a massive AoE and is similarly very powerful. her enhanced C5 is the strongest attack in the game by far, and she is completely invincible while riding Argorok. similar to Ruto, she's very vulnerable during most of her attacks and frequently needs to reposition to avoid taking damage
Zant has a high damage-output vs single targets, and is mostly average in other areas. C1 and C4 are good for getting KOs, and he is invincible during C3, which helps him to fight multiple enemies simultaneously. his C1 is very powerful and traps enemies in the attack until it's finished, but he's vulnerable while using it. he can sometimes struggle vs Giant Bosses, & sometimes struggle to deal with shields (he mainly relies on the speed/range of C1 to hit officers before they begin blocking)
Medli is fairly well-rounded and very underrated imo.. her R1 and C2 have a lot of range/speed, which is useful for dealing with shields, and her damage output vs single targets is deceptively high. she's very safe while using her aerial attacks, and her dodge-attack hits very low beneath her, which can scoop enemies up from the ground. her R3 is decent for getting KOs, and she can one-cycle every Giant Boss with C2 -> BYBYB with Hasty Attacks. i don't think that Medli is outstanding at anything, but she isn't poor at anything either, & very average all around
Link's Gauntlets are fairly well-rounded. his C2 is a decent launcher, and his C3x2 is great for extending juggles or quickly getting KOs. his C5 has a good AoE infront of him & deals a burst of damage in a single hit, which is useful vs multiple officers. his R4 also has a unique property of hitting officers from behind, which usually turns them around and prevents them from blocking his C5. however, he has poor movement while attacking which leaves him vulnerable, and he can sometimes struggle vs Giant Bosses
Midna is well-rounded but has very limited options. her C3x2 is great for getting KOs and has a large AoE infront of her. when the projectiles are returning, they can hit officers from behind and cannot be guarded against, though this combo leaves her vulnerable. her C3x2 is also her best combo vs Giant Bosses. her C5 is useful when fighting multiple officers simultaneously, since it has a lot of movement and doesn't leave her vulnerable. Midna's damage output is a bit mediocre, as she's very poor at juggling and mainly just deals damage with her C3 and C5.
- D Tier
Fi is great at getting KOs and fighting multiple officers simultaneously, and she has above-average movement speed while dodging. she has excellent movement while attacking and doesn't really leave herself vulnerable. her C5 has a good AoE and launches enemies into the air, and her C6 is invincible after she transforms into a sword. she's does very poorly vs Giant Bosses however, and her damage output 1v1 is very mediocre, so it can take her a long time to kill strong officers. she also lacks good combos to use vs Named Officers, other than fishing for C5 repeatedly and hoping it works, or plowing into them with C4 from a distance
Agitha is fairly well-rounded. she's good at juggling and dealing with shields since her C3 is a delayed attack. her C4 and C5 are decent for getting KOs, and she can one-cycle every Giant Boss with Hasty Attacks. her regular-attacks have very poor range/movement however, which leave her vulnerable, and she lacks a fast attack with a good AoE. her damage output is also fairly low vs Named Officers, since it's difficult to hit them with her powerful C1. i think that Agitha could easily be a C Tier character if her C1 was more consistent and had more generously sized hitboxes.. comboing into it is somewhat precise, and sometimes it just doesn't work and wastes time
Darunia is excellent at getting KOs and does fairly well 1v1 and vs multiple officers. his C4 has a massive long-range AoE, and his C1 traps enemies in the attack until it finishes. he's very poor vs Giant Bosses however, and his damage-output is kinda mediocre. his C1 is good for dealing with shields, but has a somewhat long animation.. many of his strong attacks have large AoEs which are useful vs multiple officers, but most of them leave him vulnerable during startup
Marin is somewhat well-rounded and mostly average in many areas. she's surprisingly good at dealing with shields, since her disjointed regular-attacks often hit enemies from behind. she does well vs generic officers 1v1, since she can combo C2 into C5 repeatedly. her C1 is fast and has a decent AoE, but relies on weak-enemies to charge it. her damage-output is average though, and her combos vs Named Officers are very poor. her C3 and C4 are unreliable followups after C2, and her C5 is too slow to connect. it can sometimes take a long time to kill Named Officers, and she does poorly vs Giant Bosses.
Zelda (Dominion Rod) excels at 1v1 and is decent at getting KOs and fighting multiple officers simultaneously. her regular-attacks are abnormally powerful, and similar to Marin, they're difficult to guard against since they often hit enemies from behind. all of her attacks have rather big AoEs, which are good for getting KOs and hitting multiple officers simultaneously. she's bad at juggling and has poor movement while attacking however, so she frequently needs to reposition to avoid taking damage. she is also the worst character in the game vs Giant Bosses.
Ganondorf's Trident is outstanding at getting KOs, but surprisingly average/mediocre at everything else. he has huge AoE's, excellent movement while attacking, and is great at approaching enemies from a distance with C3 / C5 to deal with shields. why is the Trident so low? the main problem is that he's terrible at juggling, and many of his strong-attacks leave him vulnerable and have poor followups.. he can only use his aerials after C2 / C5, which launch enemies back to the ground, and Named Officers always tech-dodge the landing. his damage output is very poor vs Named Officers, since his combo-extensions are negative on hit and leave him vulnerable, so he can only use his safest combos, which are C3 and C6 from a distance. his aerials also leave him vulnerable while fighting multiple officers simultaneously, and it can be difficult to avoid taking damage
Link's Hylian Sword is good at getting KOs and 1v1. his C1 is a spammable crowd-clearer with a good AoE, and he can bully officers from a distance with C3.. his C2 and C4 are good for juggling. the main things that separate the Hylian Sword from the Master Sword is that the Hylian Sword is much weaker overall and is horrible vs Giant Bosses
- E Tier
Lana's Deku Spear is fairly well-rounded but with limited options, similar to Midna.. her C5 is a strong projectile with a good AoE that's decent for getting KOs, starting juggles and dealing damage from a safe distance. her R7 is very powerful vs Giant Bosses and can deal significant damage to officers, similar to Ruto's R6 (if you can land it). however, she's very poor at close-range combat and overly reliant on her C5, which is late into her attack string. she's easily overwhelmed by multiple officers and struggles to capitalize on exposed weak-point gauges
Link's Magic Rod is decent at getting KOs and fighting multiple officers simultaneously. his C3x3 is fairly quick and spammable and has a good AoE around him. he can sometimes struggle vs Giant Bosses however, and his damage-output vs single targets is mediocre. his C2 is a poor launcher and he can struggle to deal with shields
Impa's Naginata is excellent vs Giant Bosses and decent 1v1. her C1 decimates Giant Bosses and can deal heavy damage to officers that armor through it. her C2 is a great launcher that can combo into itself repeatedly vs generic officers. she's very poor at getting KOs however, can struggle to fight multiple officers simultaneously, and has a mediocre damage output vs Named Officers. she lacks good followups after C2, since her C3, C4, and C5 are all either extendable multi-hit combos or are very slow
Zelda's Wind Baton is good at getting KOs, and decent 1v1 and vs multiple officers. her C3 has very long range which is great for getting KOs and starting juggles from a safe distance, as it launches enemies towards her for followups. vs generic officers, she can combo C3 into C6. her C5 and C6 have deceptively big AoEs and her C1 is a situationally powerful projectile. she's completely stationary during all of her attacks however, and she frequently needs to reposition to avoid taking damage. she's poor vs Giant Bosses
Toon Link's Sand Wand is great at getting KO's and vs Giant Bosses. his C3, C4, and C5 all have very big AoEs, and his C5 decimates Giant Boss weak-point gauges. he cannot dodge-cancel any of his attacks however, which makes all of his combos very committal and unsafe. he can struggle to fight multiple officers simultaneously, not because he lacks big AoEs, but because he can easily take a lot of damage when enemies armor through his attacks. he is poor at dealing with shields, and his damage-output vs Named Officers is mediocre since he is forced to be patient and wait for openings
- F Tier
Tingle is good at getting KOs and fighting multiple officers simultaneously. his C5 has a very big AoE and he's surprisingly safe while using it. it also has a small chance of dealing double damage when he throws large rupees instead of bombs. he struggles vs Giant Bosses however, and his damage output 1v1 is very poor. it can take him a long time to kill strong officers, and he doesn't have great combos vs Named Officers
the Great Fairy is excellent at getting KOs and good at fighting multiple officers simultaneously. all of her attacks have big AoEs and she's completely invincible during all of her strong-attacks. she's surprisingly good at avoiding damage, since you can suddenly make yourself invincible at any point by inputting a strong-attack during her weak-string. however, all of her strong-attacks have very long cinematic animations which cannot be dodge-cancelled. it's difficult to be precise with these attacks, and sometimes enemies will move out of the way or begin guarding, which can waste a lot of time.. her C6 can one-cycle Giant Bosses by itself, but it's unreliable. her damage output 1v1 is mediocre due to having a lot of long animations that are inefficient for quickly dealing damage
Tetra is great vs Giant Bosses. her C6 is powerful and has a good AoE, and she can easily one-cycle every Giant Boss with Hasty Attacks. however, she's poor at getting KOs, and surprisingly mediocre 1v1. her main problem is that her C2 inflicts the water status, which notoriously ruins juggles, and she's forced to deal with it since her C2 is her only launcher. she also lacks a good followup after C2, since her C3 and C4 are multihit attacks. she's poor at dealing with shields, and can struggle to efficiently deal damage to Named Officers
Impa's Giant Blade is fairly mediocre at almost everything. it's poor at getting KOs, defeating Giant Bosses, fighting multiple officers simultaneously, and efficiently dealing damage to Named Officers. she does fine vs generic officers 1v1, since they don't tech-dodge out of combos and so she can repeatedly use C3 after launching them into the air with C2 and putting them into tumble. her damage output vs Named Officers is very low. her only way of dealing with shields is to use charged C1 from a distance to quickly lunge herself at the enemy, which can combo into C2. however, her C2 has hardly any followups, so this interaction is low reward

thinking about viewtiful joe again and how GOOD the writing is in this stupid anime but it makes me sad how it is near impossible for me to successfully sell this show to anyone because
half of it isn't available in english, and the half that IS available (via english dub) just fucking sucks bc the dub is so awful, it changes the script so much from the original that the characters don't even feel like themselves. hell most of the anime is not even available in JAPANESE, its original language. it's just totally lost to time
the writing is very good but in a very simple way that is easy to overlook. to begin with, it is a show aimed at kids, so it follows a basic "monster of the day" type of structure (a new monster shows up, the protagonist fights it, repeat for almost every episode). so it doesn't have any complex plots or mind boggling twists, but the quality of the writing really shows in the characters. though they are simple, they're just very well-written, their dynamics are interesting and watching them interact is endlessly entertaining. but it is an aspect of the show that is pretty hard to notice how good it is unless you've watched a lot of it
the animation fucking sucks 😭😭 there is no way around it fr this show is just ugly 90% of the time
I find myself in a dilemma, because I love this show to bits and it FEELS to me like the kind of show that could potentially have a decently-sized, healthy fanbase, but god is it hard to sell this fucking show !!! how am I supposed to try to get anyone into it when the whole thing isn't even available in english, only spanish and portuguese 😭😭
and the thing is I am so insane about this show that I made my own translating and subtitling project for it and managed to complete around 7 episodes by myself, but I ran out of time and energy. this kind of project is not the kind that was made to be done by just one person. like seriously whenever I work on this project I am doing the work of at least 5 different people. it's hard to get the motivation to work on a project like this when I know that barely anybody will be interested in watching it in the end, so nobody will be there to appreciate my hard work.
so I run into a loop, because I can't convince people to get into this anime because it's not easily available, but to make it easily available I have to work on my (overwhelmingly large) project, but I can't get the motivation to work on my project because nobody cares about this anime, but I can't get people to care about it because it's not easily available to watch, and so on and so forth. unfortunately I know for a fact that if I don't work on this subtitling project, no one will do it, and the anime will continue to be unavailable. and so I preserve, sad and burned out but still withstanding, fighting to get people invested in this extremely niche kids show ...

Your Black Lipstick, My Lips
your black lipstick, my lips by allseeingoraclex
Momo Yaoyorozu didn't usually fall in love.
There was something about Kyoka that made her so easy to overlook, yet so nice when you finally noticed her. It was the same thing that made Yaoyorozu not pay her much mind until the USJ attack.
Maybe it was her shy personality, her dark hair, or her staggered height—
"Yaoyorozu," Aizawa's deep, firm voice cuts through her thoughts. She's horrified to think she has missed something he said. "Distracted?" He asks.

tbh, what i like a lot about love lasts forever is that, say sakura nanase hadn’t prayed to the cat god for her ideal man, it’s... so easy to see fall into that job without having seen and fallen in love with tendo kairi at that point in her life.
she’s just, naturally, a very empathetic and sweet person, who pays attention and notices vital details to solving the case.
i just. kotoko of itakiss. could not. could never have this kind of passion, this level of care for her patients. she did it to make naoki look good. to be an ideal doctor/nurse married couple. rather than gaining a true interest in this job. the anime loved making her ditzy and overlooking and not understanding simple stuff, because it was funnier that she was a pathetic child. (like, it’s not. it’s insulting and aggravating, and i wanted so much better for her.)
but sakura nanase is just. so much more than that? you see her relationships grow over the course of the show. how she endears herself to people, how people underestimate her bc their own emotions get in the way, with the memories of her being a lil naive and inexperienced, but nanase finds a way to prove them wrong, she works hard at her job. like, her relationships with sakai, the serious newbie nurse, with negishi, the head nurse, with kisugi, they all change over time, and it’s sweet!
itakiss just... isn’t. they’re all flat characters, with awful character development, and incredibly contrived love story between naoki and kotoko.

drell diaspora meta <3
as told by me! a mixed diasporic chindo (chinese-indonesian) :)
preface: bioware failed to flesh out Drell culture and heritage to my satisfaction so I wrote this meta for both my personal reference and because I wanted to represent Thane and Drell as people who suffer from a history that invokes parallels between real world colonization/imperialism, as well as portray his personal conflict with this accurately because it's very painful and I think gets naturally overlooked by people who lack this background!
Contents:
The Family Unit
Food
Music
Customs
Hanar Intervention (honestly read this bc I think it's the most important section!!)
1. The Family Unit
Size: They're small by necessity: as in there is no room on Kahje to support. This is a bit of a complicated topic. Drell families are likely to lose their children to the Compact giving them incentive to have more than one or two but it’s probably very expensive to provide for them. I can see a lot of cultural tension here. There are pressures in either direction. There's a lot of sadness too. It makes every child extremely precious.
Values: Independence is an important quality-- but not to a fault! Because family units can be taken apart at any time, being able to take care of yourself is a survival skill. In addition, spiritedness is a closely held value-- To make up for the loss of large family trees and ability to be in close quarters (due to the constant coming and going of family members) it becomes very important to showcase your passion-- whether to each other or about any matter of things in life. Overall, spiritedness is most important! caring and wanting to improve upon yourself as well as self-discipline and hard work.
A.N: Probably because, as evidenced by Thane’s dialogue, they've come to view what happened on Rakhana as like, self-inflicted or weak of spirit ( :( this has me extremely messed up. The whole situation is based on Colonialist propaganda honestly so this conflict to me is so personal and painful to watch in real-time because you can see it very plainly in Thane and you can tell he carries that generational trauma)
Carrying on: The ability to be vulnerable is not as important as the ability to show that you care, which can come from action or words, but usually, this means vulnerability and passion go hand in hand. Finally, homecoming is very important. Everyone is so scattered all over the galaxy, time together is time that counts. Bonding circles (An old tradition) have become “Bonds,” a colloquial name for annual family gatherings.
Read on Under The Cut <3
2. Food
Drell are born with a full set of teeth but they can’t be that tough yet. There must be specific dishes for each age to celebrate. That means as they age, softer meats-> harder foods are part of a traditional practice to track development! (Age 1 Birthday Food: Beetle Based Dish, so on till age 16/17)
Rakhana Diet: I also think that on Rakhana insects would have been popular! Because it’s an arid world and it would have been a very nutritious and accessible source of protein. It also strikes me that their recipes may have been very paste-based because it’s an easy way to flavor things when food is scarce! Also, paste flavoring like sambal (spicy chili). Other Foods:
Eggs? Eggs. It’s just a lizard thing but also! Really simple and easy to make.
Desert fruit! Water-based fruits that are similar to cantaloupe and citrusy things like calamansi.
On Kahje: Their diet must have to shift, so lucky they’re omnivorous.
Probably fish. Likely the main source of protein there.
This is off topic but I think that eating kelp runs as a joke for Drell on Kahje because of the similarities between their colors and striping. I don’t know what kind of joke. But I wonder if Drell teens will order fried kelp and point at each other like “cannibal”
Sauce…………. Dark sauces…...
You can tell the difference between a Kahje Drell and a Rakhana Drell (If they are still in existence? Most likely but very hard to find) based on their fish opinions
Raw fish consumption is normal on Kahje but Drell are not technically “built” for that diet so they may get sick with overconsumption! It must be well cooked to avoid illness.
3. Music
There's a natural inclination to communicate verbally due to their distinct biology.
Drell anatomy (throat) allows for unique sounds and trills
Highly present in language and utilized in music (On Rhakana there were probably dialects that incorporated certain clicks and trills as part of the “alphabet” just like irl, but I imagine those that can still speak it are very limited and it must be passed down or retaught through preservation efforts)
Rhythmic dance and music to tell stories and legends! Especially of great creatures that transcended into infamy. Like a big old serpent that through storytelling became a mythical dragon type of thing.
Clothing/Robes, loose-fitting and comfortable to work in Arid environments and allow for movement (tight ass clothes not the norm ashdjfk esp for dancing, Thane’s just a career man who thinks he looks good and he lived on Kahje so--)
4. Customs
The Pursuit of Life a.k.a Perah (I made this term up)
It's a cultural value centered around making the most of life through boldness. Seizing the moment because not every Drell gets the opportunity to call their life their own— this is in reference to both the compact and the death of Rakhana. Therefore if you ARE lucky enough to have ownership over your own life, you must not squander it. There are a number of purposeful benefits to Perah, such as:
Leading Drell off of Kahje (avoiding Kepral’s)
Giving Drell an “Adventurous” reputation due to far journeying and mixed work
A lot of Drell are able to form community ties outside of the home due to this norm! Because a lot of them have long and wide and journeys across the galaxy to share with each other and cultural commonality, they have an immediate kinship with each Drell they meet.
Puppetry/Masks
The Drell face is shaped like a mask so it only makes me think there must be culture-specific dances or plays utilizing masks in order to tell traditional stories and celebrate moments of life
There seems to be a lot of reverence and appreciation for the different and diverse, including animals and other species, leading me to believe that there are masks based on different creatures!
5. Hanar Intervention
Loss of Population: Effects
Destruction of the family unit, disjointed/fractured because of the Compact and limited living space on Kahje
Death of Rakhana leaving entire generations and specific regions behind, permanent severing between sects of Drell society
That means the inability to read certain texts as well as languages dying off between generations.
The disappearance of traditions, including many religions
Loss of understanding of Drell language and terminology
A.N: Thane is a rare case with access to high reading material and close ties to “hidden” communities/pockets of people; Most Drell do not know the meaning of Siha due to Hanar assimilating via Enkindlers
Most also do not know about traditional religion! I imagine these pockets must be so small. Thane probably had to work very hard to recover this knowledge which goes to show his complex relationship with his heritage.
It’s likely that there are factions of Drell who attempt to preserve and celebrate their culture despite being uprooted.
Possible rebellions/isolationists who reject the Compact which has mixed reactions by the majority of Drell community, not limited to shunning and disownment (:/ bc these things are sadly complicated)
A.N: Thane comments that it's an honor to fulfill the compact, which naturally implies it's shame to reject it. Let your imagination on the consequences of that rejection sink in.
A misconception is that Drell like to adopt whatever culture they live in but it's more like most of them lack the access to return and reclaim their own roots or have been shamed out of it

there was no particular reason i wrote all this down other than reading the translations to my universe made me cry last week because i’m just Like this. this is a mini compilation of yoongi lyrics that i hold gently in my palm and close to my heart in a he’s my artist for life kind of way. these aren’t all my favorite yoongi lyrics, i certainly have more but not ones that fit this general vibe.
this is like extremely disorganized, i kind of just wrote it like a journal (and i’ll probably copy it to my bullet journal at some point actually). interpretations are my own, music is cool in that we can all read and hear the same thing and get different things out of it (which is why yoongi has often said he doesn’t attach specific meaning to things, giving it up to the listener instead)
so yeah. here’s me being fond of yoongi in 4k for no reason other than. idk. i wanted to. all translations are from doyoubangtan and doolsetbangtan.
song request - lee sora ft suga
“I’ll be with you, for your birth and your end; That you’d remember that I’m with you, wherever you are; I’ll be a comfort for your life at any time, and so; please, that you’d lean on me and take a rest, every once in awhile.”
to me, this perfectly encapsulates what creating music is for yoongi in a two-fold kind of way. not only does he want his music to be a source of comfort for those who listen to it (just as the art of music is for himself), he’s also consistent in his assurance that taking a rest is okay. not being okay is okay. simply existing for the time being is okay. it’s a gentle empathy that comes from the experienced heart of someone who’s not going to tell you that it is okay, but will tell you that it won’t always be like this. friendly little moon trying to get you to smile with him on sleepless nights.
so far away - agust d ft suran
dream, will eventually be in full bloom at the end of hardships
this was on my undergrad graduation cap. it’s one of my favorite lyrics of all time. if so far away is my heart song, this is my heart lyric. this is a common motif in yoongi’s lyrics; dormancy is only temporary, you will bloom at the end of the cold winter.
dream, hope it to be there with you at your creation and at the end of your life
creation to end is another common motif n his lyrics. in this specific context, i imagine it to most closely be analogous to holding dreams close to you your entire life. dreams are dreams no matter how they manifest, even if they’re simply something you long for until your “end”.
Hope it to be there with you at your creation and at the end of your life; It will be generous to you wherever you stand; It will eventually be in full bloom at the end of hardships; The beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will the future be
the entirety of this song reads like a story and this last refrain reads like the conclusion (kind of). the slight wording change from the previous choruses means a lot in that regard, more definite and firm. you will be okay. maybe not now, maybe not next week. but you will be.
suga’s interlude - halsey ft suga
Though the dawn before sunrise is darkest; don’t forget the stars you longed for only rise in the darkness
just a really pretty but heart wrenching lyric in the context of the entire song. he’s also used this metaphor several times. i love me a good string of consistency with minor adaptations to fit the vibe. this song also made me cry the first time i read the translations lmao.
my universe - coldplay ft bts
Because the trial we face now is just for a moment anyway; All you have to do is to just keep shining bright like now; And we will follow you, embroidering this long night
this could mean so many things depending on how you wanted to contextualize it. of course the song is about love, so you could view it in that way. we’re in the midst of a global pandemic where we can’t see each other. or maybe it’s simply existence. continue to exist and one day your bright light will be followed even in the darkest of nights.
also the og title of telepathy being 잠시 (for a moment) is so...min yoongi you are so cool
people - agust d
Did someone say humans are the animals of wisdom?; The way I see it, humans are the animals of regret
Your ordinaries are my extraordinaries; Your extraordinaries are my ordinaries; Your ordinaries are my extraordinaries; Your extraordinaries are my ordinaries
super simple to understand which i think makes it more poignant. especially if you contextualize it with everything he’s said or written regarding the plight of fame and how he himself grapples with it as min yoongi.
28 - agust d ft niihwa
just this whole song. if song request encapsulates yoongi’s musical ethos, this captures a lot of his general musings.
paradise - bts
Just living like this, surviving like this, that’s my small dream; Dreaming dreams, grasping dreams, breathing breaths, it’s often too much
a more blunt take on the simply existing is a good enough dream. yoongi’s 2018 new years message was one of the things that made me go “yes. Him™” so paradise is very <3 for me
interlude: shadow - bts
Flying high scares me; I mean, nobody had told me; how lonely it is here –;how my leap could be my fall
another thing he uses frequently, even as recently as an interview regarding permission to dance. the contemplation of how a fall is far scarier than landing because getting back up is uncertain.
Yeah, I’m you and you’re me, do you finally get that now?; Yeah, you’re me and I’m you, do you finally get that now?
the entirety of this song is haunting particularly paired with the sampling and the music video as a visual but this part is just...the whole idea of competing internal voices throughout the narrative of the song or if you’d rather truly treat the lyrics like a piece of literature, you have quite the unreliable narrator, one that’s trying to grapple with his own sense of self.
140503 at dawn - agust d
Pretending that I’m not lonely, pretending that I’m not suffering; needlessly pretending that I’m okay, and pretending hard that I’m strong; I built a wall in front of me, “Don’t come inside”; I’m an island in this wide ocean, “Don’t abandon me”
the entirety of agust d just makes me ache but i mainly pulled this part because he uses the island metaphor consistently. here, it’s used like i said before; achingly.
this song also gets overlooked a lot in the larger context of agust d but anyway
eight - IU ft suga
Island, yeah this is an island; a small island that we made for each other; Yeah, mm, forever young, the word ‘forever’ is a sandcastle; A farewell is just like an emergency text warning of a disaster; A morning met together with yearning; As each of us pass this eternity, we’re sure to meet again on this island
can i be honest and say i forgot this song came out at the beginning of the pandemic. anyway, if you haven’t heard the various times that jieun has spoke about this song and it’s conveyance, i encourage you to. the music video also gives a beautiful visual.
i wrote a small analysis of this when it came out so i’ll just put it here
burn it - agust d ft max
I hope you don’t forget that giving up decisively also counts as courage
of course this can absolutely be taken at a literal meaning especially considering he said a similar iteration of this to someone on kkul fm BUT i also like looking at it in context of the entire song because maybe this is him trying to convince himself too, especially considering the wording of the last chorus doesn’t change it so it implies in order to get past the fire u need to let it burn first? burn it = giving up on some aspect of pain?
i see why max didn’t shut up for eight months about making this song i wouldn’t either hello
outro: tear - bts
im including this one firstly because i love the song but secondly to say i knew the second u all were surprised by yoongi saying he wrote this as essentially a break up song for bts and they all cried while listening to it that y’all don’t actually read or interact w their lyrics fjdklafjsd
just bc it’s a rap song doesn’t mean it’s a diss or a flex. weirdos.
intro: never mind - bts
I hope you forget about all your mistakes and such; Never mind; It’s not easy, but engrave this in your heart; If you think you’re going to crash, accelerate more, you idiot; Never mind, never mind; Whatever thorny path it may be, go run; Never mind, never mind; There are a lot of things that you can’t control
the entire composition of nevermind is similar to first love and shadow to me where you can just hear the emotion in his voice while performing it
this is also another general idea that he mentions a few different times through different songs which as we’ve seen i am <3 for
intro: the most beautiful moment in life - bts
once again i don’t have a specific lyric to pull i just love this song so much and i feel like it isn’t talked about enough because first of all the use of the basketball throughout the instrumental, the incorporation of the origin of his stage name into an entire song regarding his general existence as a performer and coming into the beginnings of sizeable fame, and just his general way of essentially writing one giant ode to something he loves and analogizing it to something else he loves to talk through internal struggles.
aka im once again saying min yoongi you’re so cool
first love - bts
same line of awe from above this whole song is just a story, a poem, a journal entry, a beautiful confession, i don’t know. this is yoongi’s best bts solo u can argue with a wall about it also if you were able to see this live i hope u have a terrible week (im joking)
every fancam i’ve ever seen of this makes me cry. so. do with that what you will in regards to how i feel about this song.

the problem. with fgo. and let me be absolutely clear i say this as someone who very much enjoys fgo and what it’s brought to fate. the core problem with fgo writing I think is that it’s just too damn big and it takes too long, and those two issues enhance each other.
a big difference with previous fate stuff is that fgo isn’t delivered in one go, so where previously while writing it would be easy to go back and change things earlier in the story because it would be delivered in one piece anyway, now a lot of it is made up as they go along. sure the light novels are serialised but those were still planned out in advance with a clear structure and end in mind. a lot of fgo was planned years before it would actually see the light but at the same time some events were reportedly written like a month before they actually ran. sometimes things are planned and it takes years before the story actually gets around to it, but in previous fate works those years were spent developing a complete story instead of already having content out that new stuff now needs to check out with.
fgo releasing its story over the span of several years means that the writers can’t just go back and edit the earlier stuff to line up with the later and the feeling i get is that Lead Writer Kinoko Nasu is just straight up not used to that and therefore keeps overlooking blatant inconsistencies. a visual novel is done when it’s done but fgo is an ongoing story so it feels like we’re reading a work in process instead of a finished product, and this second draft has some real good things going for it already but it’s still very much rough around the edges in really glaring ways.
on top of that the scale at which fgo operates both in-story and on the production level is way bigger than previous fates. the sheer amount of writers and artists involved is much larger than anything nasu could’ve anticipated when releasing fsn back in 2004. managing the amount of different characters and plotlines and writers in fgo has got to be like herding cats let alone when you include all the other fate stuff being produced at the same time. it’s too much at once! we genuinely don’t need all this fate at the same time and I would’ve vastly preferred if after ccc released we’d only got like, ubw anime and then the whole of observer on time temple as a polished video game with an announcement that there’s a sequel in the works. just... make one thing at a time maybe two bc extella needed a lot more time and polish too. there’s so much fate happening right now that it’s hard to keep up as reader let alone as lead writer. fgo making so much fucking money as a gacha game is why there’s money to be making all those extra fate things in the first place but just because you can doesn’t mean you should

Just wanted to express my gratitude for this comic bc man. Not railing on other online stories (I'm aware this is a personal taste thing, not an indicator of storytelling quality) but the whole human mind/animal instincts trauma combo has been emotionally exhausting to keep experiencing in most of the lion content I've seen. I adore I Hope So for its commitment to an anthropomorphized world where such things are universally wrong, leaving room to explore relatable real-life struggles.
Aww, it's so nice to hear this. We're really trying for this balance where things can be unfair and brutal but not to the point where it crosses the territory where our characters come across as detached or uncaring to whatever horrors they encounter. I also think it's extremely difficult to be like 'ok, these are lions so anything like infanticide is fair game' but then, on the other hand, try and put across the message that ableism and abusing kids is wrong. You're asking your audience to be very empathetic to these characters because of the latter point but, at the same time, asking your audience to overlook the fact that babies are dying in front of them because nature. Imagine if, after getting to know and love Simba in the first half-an-hour of The Lion King, Scar kills him - brutally - and, instead of his mother being upset in the aftermath like it was shown, Sarabi just shrugs and has kids with her son's killer and it's all 'well, that's the Circle of Life'. Doesn't sound too good.
If somebody wants to write a realistic animal story like that: more power to them. There are several comics of that variety that I very much enjoy. But when you're introducing human issues like ableism, homophobia, abuse, sexism and so on, that's when things get extremely dicey. So, yeah, I'm glad we've been able to avoid making our audience feel that way thus far because it hasn't been easy coming up with suitable, G-rated explanations of what happens to cubs when new leaders take over but anything's better than summary execution of minors. :c

hello! i saw that ur ships were open so could i pls get one for bts, txt, and skz? :)
info : alright so when you first meet me i’m timid and polite but once i eventually warm up to a person i’m easy going and bubbly. i smile a lot and it doesn’t take much to make me laugh. i’d consider myself to be kind and gentle towards others but i’m also mischievous (in a playful way) when you least expect it. as in i like to pull small pranks on my friends, winking at people to confuse them, or using random word play. my most prominent feature would have to be the fact that i’m patient. i adore kids and animals/pets a lot and i’m sometimes in charge of looking after my friends’ younger siblings. i also don’t get mad or annoyed easily. my friends in fact describe me as “soft” or “naive” due to my compassion and sincerity but i’m also sensitive at times. i’m an ambivert leaning towards the introverted side. i’m more of a listener than talker but i do talk a lot if i’m genuinely engaged with the conversation at hand. hm what else? ooh i’m hard working and ambitious when i have a certain goal or task in mind. alright moving on to hobbies...my biggest and most favorite hobby would have to be dancing! i like learning k-pop choreographies lol. i also enjoy watching anime, reading webtoons and manga, listening to music, baking, and i’m a bit into fashion. what i look for in a partner? alright so my love language is physical touch and words of affirmation. i’m very much into the idea of holding hands, hugs, cuddling, head pats, and all that fun stuff so i’d like someone who’s comfortable with that. however i do know when to respect boundaries and give personal space when needed ! i’d also like to be able to take care of them and also have them take care of me. bc sometimes i tend to look out for others and i overlook my own struggles.
i think that’s about it! i’m srry if this got way too long but ty for having the patience to read through all that :) also ty in advance for the ship! i hope you have a lovely day/evening/night! remember to take care of yourself <3
From BTS I ship you with Jimin
Tumblr media
° Jimin's love language is definitely touch, he's a very cuddly and warm person naturally. Which would increase even more when around someone he is dating.
° Even though Jimin is relatively soft, he is also quite a flirt. So if you winked at him to confuse him, he'd just fire it back at you to make you bashful or surprised.
° His main spot for dates with you will be pet cafés because you both love animals and he loves how bright you seem while you play with them. He will also talk about future children with you quite often.
° Every night before bed you two will watch two episodes of your favorite anime, while cuddling and feeding each other a bedtime snack. Jimin usually falls asleep before the second episode ends.
From Skz I ship you with Bang Chan
Tumblr media
° Chan puts others before himself constantly, even if it hurts him in the end. So you two would both tell each other when you are at your limits and need to take care of each other first.
° Loves being a big spoon, he just loves wrapping his arms around you and seeing you cuddle closer to him. But he secretly also loves being little spoon, because he likes being held and feeling safe.
° Will say dad jokes from time to time, but you laugh at them because you find it funny how proud he looks afterwards. The rest of the members will judge both of you.
° Gains a habit of pressing his cheek against your head while your on his lap. Once accidently falling asleep that way and near hit his head on your shoulder until you caught him.
From TxT I ship you with Hueningkai
Tumblr media
° When you mentioned head pats, my mind immediately went to Kai. He will mostly be seen holding you hand, patting you head, and rubbing your tummy as ways of showing affection.
° Will get very giggly if you randomly wink at him to confuse him, he would be taken aback by ant sort of confident flirting. But that doesn't mean he doesn't enjoy it.
° Will teach you some of the choreographies, if the members witness this then they will cheer you on until you become bashful. Beomgyu will especially try to embarrass you.
° He will usually take you to the mall for dates, letting you go to any store you want and always surprising you with a new stuffed animal. He will secretly steal some when he sleeps over.
